Getting your classic car from point A to point B can prove challenging. As a classic car connoisseur, you want to make sure your car remains pristine and undamaged. You have three main options: drive it, tow it yourself, or hire a professional local towing company to move the car.

Drive the Car

Although it’s enjoyable to take your baby out on the open road, some classic cars just aren’t meant for long trips. This may not even be an option if the car isn’t yet in a condition where you can drive it. Taking your classic car on the highway does raise some concerns:

Minor road hazards, such as flying rocks and newly painted highway lines, could cause damage to windshields and paint.

You’ll be putting miles on your car and on the engine.

A breakdown can put you at the mercy of a local garage that doesn’t know how to work on your car.

Accidents are always a major concern, and the more miles you are putting in, the greater your risk.

Tow It Yourself

Towing the car yourself is only a slightly better option than driving it. To tow successfully, you need a full flatbed trailer and a vehicle with enough power to pull it and the weight of your car. If your car isn’t yet operational, you’ll need a trailer with a winch just to get the car safely onto it.

If you are only moving the car a short distance, experience is helpful but not necessary. For longer distances, the learning curve when it comes to pulling a trailer successfully can be steep.

Whatever you do, don’t give in to the temptation to tow your classic with a tow rope. Not only does this require two drivers, it increases the chances of an accident.

Call the Professionals

Local towing companies such as Roadway Towing Ltd can provide the best option for moving your car safely to its new location. Most companies have experience with classic cars. They can be quite affordable when you are calling ahead to schedule a tow, as opposed to a last minute emergency call. A few tips when calling in the tow company:

Make sure they are bringing a flatbed tow truck. Although more expensive, this is safer for your car and puts less wear and tear on it.

Choose a company with nylon tie-down system instead of chains. The nylon ties are less likely to damage the car.

Leaving your beloved car in the hands of the professionals provides peace of mind. You can rest assured your car will make it home safely, whether you are moving it across town or over several hundred miles.

With people driving forklifts, concrete floors, and shelves filled with products, a warehouse can be a dangerous place—especially if it’s unorganized. To avoid unnecessary injuries, it’s important for warehouse owners and managers to properly train all employees and ensure that the employees wear proper safety equipment when needed. Additionally, check out these four safety tips that will help you reduce the amount of injuries in your warehouse.

Use Industrial Floor Mats in Packing Stations

Employees who work in packing areas are often on their feet all day. By placing industrial floor mats throughout the area, you form a barrier between them and the warehouse’s concrete floor. The mats help relieve stress that’s placed on their legs and feet from standing all day, but they also serve another purpose. When you equip the area with impact-absorbing, anti-slip mats, you reduce the amount of falls, and the amount of people who are injured when they fall.

Limit the Areas Where Forklifts Operate

If possible, limit the area in which forklifts operate. The more often forklifts are driven in high-traffic areas, the more likely it is for an employee to get injured. Consider making “forklift lanes” around the perimeter of the warehouse and on the sides of main aisles. Also, create one or more fully equipped forklift-designated areas throughout the warehouse. Equip these areas with the supplies that forklift drivers use on a regular basis, such as extra pallets and heavy-duty scales.

Purchase the Right Scales

There are numerous types of heavy-duty scales, and it’s important that your warehouse uses the correct type of scale. Warehouses that handle smaller shipments can consider using a more compact, moveable scale. However, this type of scale isn’t ideal for large warehouses that fill heavy shipments. In this case, it’s safer to have a heavy-duty scale placed in an open area that’s easily accessible by forklift drivers. Also, if your warehouse handles hazardous materials, use a hazardous-area floor scale that’s safe for explosive environments.

Store Materials Properly

Take the time to organize the shelves in your warehouse. Make sure that large, heavy items are stored on lower or middle shelves to create a center of gravity for your shelving units; make sure that everything is stacked straight and in even piles to prevent tipping, and encourage employees to only remove things from shelves one item at a time.

While you can’t prevent every injury, you can prevent a lot of them by taking the right precautions. The more organized and efficient your warehouse is, the less likely it is for accidents to happen.

Your heating and air conditioning units circulate all of the air your family breathes. Whether your furnace is warming frigid air from outside or your air conditioner is cooling hot air, these appliances control the quality of every breath you take.

According to experts, an average household can generate up to 40 pounds of dust in a single year. There are a few simple ways to tell if hiring a company to clean all of the ducting in your home will be a good investment for you.

Your vents have not been cleaned in more than 5 years.

Cleaning your air ducts every 5-10 years is a general recommendation for the average homeowner depending on the environment where you live. Areas with high levels of air pollution or accelerated mold and mildew growth might require more frequent care.

Dirt accumulation is visible.

While you obviously won’t be able to check every piece of ducting in your home, try removing one of protective grates from a vent and visually inspecting the inside of the duct for cleanliness.

Run your finger or the edge of a clean cloth along the inside of the duct. If it comes away dusty, greasy, or sticky, this could be an indication that the ducting you can’t see is also dirty. Another way to check for dirt accumulation is to watch for any visible dust exiting the vents when the furnace or cooler switches on and blows air through the system.

There is moisture or mold and mildew growing inside your ducts.

The inside of your ducts should not feel damp. Condensation could indicate a leak in your system, inadequate insulation, or cooling coils that are not functioning properly. Dusty vents are one thing, but pumping mold spores throughout your home could cause allergic reactions or breathing problems, and it could even spread these organisms to other areas in your home.

You find evidence of rodents or other vermin infestations.

Once the exterminator has reassured you that your home is finally cleared of the mice or other creatures that managed to get inside, you might want to schedule a professional duct cleaning. It probably makes you shudder to even consider, but if vermin used the duct work in your home to travel from one side to the other, they probably left feces, hair, and dander behind.

Thorough duct cleaning can be a significant investment, but when it is done right, it can give you peace of mind about the air quality in your home.

When you buy glasses online, you can save a lot of money and time while having a wider selection of frames to choose from. However, you also need to be sure that you are getting glasses that fit well and meet your prescription needs. Follow these tips to make sure you get the glasses you need.

Pick the Right Frame

The frame you choose is about your personal style but also about the shape of your face. You can try on several different styles online by visiting a virtual eyeglass website. This will give you a better idea about the style and shape of frame that you are looking for.

Pick the Right Lens Material

There are a few different types of lenses that you can choose from, depending on how you use your glasses and how tight your budget is. If you don’t plan on using your glasses very often or have a light prescription, then you might want to choose the standard plastic lenses. Polycarbonate lenses are more ideal for active individuals because they are very durable. Finally, high index 1.67 lenses are a type of thin lens that minimizes the visual appearance of the lens.

Pick the Right Lens

There are two types of lenses. Single-vision lenses are designed to help individuals who are either near-sighted or far-sighted. Multi-focal lenses are available for individuals who have both of these problems or who have multiple eye conditions that need correction. If you aren’t sure which type of lens is right for you, allow a sales representative to review your prescription information.

Enter Your Prescription Correctly

The biggest mistake you can make is entering the wrong prescription information. If you are at all unsure of what the abbreviations on your prescription mean, consult a representative from the online site or call your doctor. It would be a shame to unknowingly get lenses that aren’t the right strength.

The best part about online eyeglass stores is that they are very flexible. If you receive the glasses and discover that they don’t meet your needs or aren’t the right size, then you can easily return them and get a corrected pair. For this reason, you can feel safe in buying your glasses without worrying whether you’ve made the right choice. However, going into the process with the information above can greatly improve your chances of success in picking the perfect pair of glasses.

Many people have the need to tow large or bulky items to another destination. This includes mobile homes or boats. Occasionally, you may have to pass a slower vehicle, such as a tractor. Passing other vehicles while towing can be dangerous. However, it is not impossible. There are some basic rules to follow if you find yourself in this situation. Read on to find out how to safely pass a slower vehicle while towing your cargo.

Pass Only On Level Ground

Due to the weight of your trailer and load, never try to pass a slower vehicle on an incline or a decline while towing. The added weight can dramatically increase your speed, to dangerous levels, on a decline. On an incline, the added weight, combined with the hill, may leave you stuck alongside the vehicle you are trying to pass. On level ground, you can see a good distance ahead, increasing your safety.

Signal Early

You should try to use your indicators as early as possible when intending to move out and pass a slower vehicle. This alerts other drivers to your intentions, and they can allow you the extra room and time to pass over to the next lane to begin the overtake. Again, this increases safety for you, the other road users, as well as the vehicle you wish to pass.

Move The Wheel Slowly

Steer your vehicle and trailer slowly, in increments, until you are safely on to the next lane, and in a position to pass the slower vehicle. Any jerks or turns of the steering wheel during this time can sway your trailer, and this is dangerous for you, as well as other vehicles. Keep checking your mirrors during this maneuver, and visually confirm the trailer you are towing remains stable.

Allow For The Extra Length You Are Towing

Although this may seem obvious, accidents can easily happen when drivers simply forget to allow for their extra length. Rejoining traffic too soon can lead to accidents. Executing turns must to be done with the use of your mirrors. Get into the habit of watching your trailer pass the curb or corner in your mirrors as you turn through them. Remember to stay at a slow speed during the maneuvers.

Stay Alert

Read the road ahead, and anticipate any potential incidents which will force you to slow down. If you drive at a slower speed overall, you will have more time to safely react to these incidents. Remain alert at all times, and watch for potential sources of collisions, such as signposts (when you are turning) and other vehicles when you rejoin traffic.

Tow ropes or straps should only be used to move your vehicle a few miles to a mechanic, or a garage.

Land reclamation goes back to the age-old rule about leaving something you use in the same condition you found it. In the case of the Canadian oil sands, where vast amounts of oil are recovered, this means returning entire ecosystems back to their natural state upon the completion of a project, which could be a herculean task taking centuries when left to Mother Nature.

As a participant in the land grab for oil in the tar sands of Alberta, you know that the more you can achieve in land reclamation, the better. It increases the likelihood that landowners will lease land to you in the future, and it leaves the acreage in better condition for future generations.

The industry has made strides in the reclamation of wetlands surrounding the region’s vast oil resources deep below the ground. Standards for land reclamation are continually rising, and here are ways for you to adapt.

Reclaiming Land

Instead of leaving large pits of previously drilled land empty once your project is complete, you can return that property to its original condition with land reclamation. In doing so, entire ecosystems including wetlands and dry land disrupted by oil drilling can be manually recreated. Man-made wetlands comprised of land, water and plants accelerate the process and keep landowners happy.

Dry Land

Recreating ecosystems involves capturing the surface ground gathered in the excavating process. As a result, the soil can be reclaimed, or used once again, when you are reconstructing the dry landscaping. Once the terrain is reformed, you can return entire herds of animals, including mountain bison and cows, to graze among the bushes in the reconstructed land once again.

To gain the support of the community and the landowners in the area, sponsor a tree-planting event at your reconstructed site every year. On each occasion, use that very soil that was previously excavated to support the trees that are being planted. Gather members of the community and industry participants as well as their families to dig and plant the trees, shrubs and plants that are indigenous to the area.

Wetlands

Recreating ecosystems also involves planting wetlands that were naturally found in the region before, such as peatlands comprised of bogs and fen. To do this, you must recreate a nursery-like environment on the mudflats and plant numerous seedlings.

You can also restore marshes and natural tailings ponds, which naturally collect the byproduct from the drilling process. As a result, these materials can be mined once again and used in other applications, supporting reclamation in the process.

Conclusion

Reclamation begins before you dig your first bucket of soil. Be sure and enlist the help of proper excavating or earthworks services, like Fortune Oilfield Construction Ltd, to help you throughout all phases of your project.

Who Built The First Super B Train?

In the world of trucking and freight transportation, Super B Trains have become synonymous with Canadian industry due to the country’s widespread use of the design. In fact, many people actually believe that these rigs were originally designed, built, and implemented in Canada. This belief was reinforced by a survey conducted by Motor Truck, a Canadian monthly trucking publication in the 1970’s.

The survey concluded that numerous different trucking outfits considered themselves to be the designers and originators of the first B Train. However, evidence suggests that it was not in Canada where the first Super B Train was created, but in the state of California. Dan Keeney, a long time trucker, designed and created the first B-Train when he started his own California-based trucking outfit in 1933.

Dan Keeney’s Design

What’s remarkable about Dan’s original 1933 design is the fact that it was rather similar to super B train designs that would become industry standards decades down the road. Dan’s Super B Train (like all B trains) was comprised of two trailers. The first trailer measured around 20 ft. long, while the second trailer was around 30 ft., which resulted in a deck space increase of nearly 30%.

Dan’s Super B Train Design Begins to Spread

For nearly three decades after Dan’s design, the initial super B train was primarily used in the state of California. However, during the 1970’s, the Super B Train experienced a geographical diaspora and the design begin to spread. It was around this time when the Super B Train reached Canadian provinces like British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.

Now, one of the main reason why the B Train was slowly becoming a part of freight transportation in Canada was simply because its design lent itself well to the transportation of lumber. The super B Train design offered more utilization of capacity as well as more stability, which was also favored by the steel transportation industry.

Super B Trains Today Through much regulation and safety implementation, Super B Trains are now standard for transportation within many Canadian industries. Despite its roots, the B Train rig has not been widely used in the United States (with the exception of Michigan and Washington state– two states with large lumber industries). However, due to its reliability, stability, and maximum allowance of usable space, the Super B Train is currently being used all around the world from Australia to Europe. Click here for more information.

If you are like most people, you might shudder at the thought of something creepy crawling over you as you sleep. In order to fend off insect bites and property damage, Americans spend almost 7 billion dollars per year on pest control. As your technician sprays your house, you might wonder what he is thinking and how you can help. Here are two things he probably wants to tell you so that you can get the most out of your next service.

1: “With your help, this treatment will be more effective.”

When people call for an exterminator, they sometimes make the mistake of thinking that a magician will waltz into their home, wave a spray can and a magic wand, and instantly eradicate every bug in their place. Unfortunately, your exterminator can’t work wonders on his own; he needs your help.

Pest control treatments are much more effective when your exterminator knows which types of bugs he is treating, and can access most areas of your home. Contrary to popular belief, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all pesticide. Some sprays are designed to kill bugs that come in physical contact with them, while others have to be ingested by plant-munching insects. If your exterminator doesn’t understand the type of pests that he is treating, he might unintentionally use the wrong stuff.

Another problem that exterminators frequently face is not being able to reach the perimeter of your home. Furniture, toys, and boxes can get in the way, which might prevent professionals from spraying an adequate perimeter. This problem could allow pests to continue entering your home from the outside.

If you want to help your pest control guy, take some time to prepare for your appointment. Take pictures of the bugs that have been plaguing you, so that you can lead your exterminator in the right direction. Clean up your space and pull furniture away from the walls, so that he has easy access to key entry points.

2: “Please give me the chance to explain.”

Sometimes after people hire an exterminator, they expect their problems to be resolved in a few hours. When that doesn’t happen, some folks decide to leave a scathing online review, or tell their friends about their unsuccessful service.

Unfortunately, pesticide treatments aren’t always an overnight fix. Sometimes bugs have to have time to track through poisons, and pesticides take a little while to wipe out massive insect colonies.

Before you get angry and assume that your treatment was ineffective, take the time to call your pest control professional. He might be able to explain why things are taking a little while, or give you tips for how to speed things along. Oftentimes, exterminators are more than willing to come back and re-spray for free, just to build customer loyalty.

Understanding the ways that you can help your exterminator, such as someone at Cal-Rid Exterminators Inc, will improve his day, and make your pest control treatment count.

Advertising is one of the most important parts of running a successful new business. Unfortunately, public advertising is not always cheap. Publishing ads on television, in newspapers and magazines can add up to an expense you aren’t ready to pay if your business is just starting out. However, you can advertise your business inexpensively by using flyers to get the word out. These are the perfect times to use flyers to boost your business and help increase your clientele.

Grand Opening Flyers

Flyers are the perfect way to announce to everyone in your area that your new business is opening. These can be handed out at local grocery stores, tacked up on bulletin boards in other popular businesses or placed on cars in parking lots. Flyers can even be placed in mailboxes all over your community to let everyone know that you are having the Grand Opening of your business.

You may want to provide free refreshments at your Grand Opening to get more new customers to stop in and check out your business. Be sure to have this printed on your flyers because offering free refreshments will almost guarantee that you will have customers coming in.

Promotional Sales

Almost every retail business that offers products or services has promotional sales from time to time. This may be to gain new customers during slow seasons or to get a jump start on the holiday season when business will be booming. Flyers are a great way to advertise those special sales. Flyers really grab the attention of potential customers and encourage them to check out your company.

End of Season Sales

If your business sells a wide variety of different products, there may be times when you have certain seasonal items. For instance, if it is close to the end of summer and you still have many swimming pools or bathing suits left to sell, this is an ideal time to mark those items down for a quick sale. Advertising these huge discounts on flyers will be very helpful in selling those items so you can have more room for the next group of seasonal inventory.

Many well-known retail businesses send out flyers as frequently as once a week through the mail. Without these flyers, these businesses might suffer a great loss of profit because some customers might not be aware of what they have to offer. Flyers are an affordable way to let customers know your business has the products, services and prices they need. For more information, contact Alberta Printing Co Ltd. or a similar company.

As an owner of a business that you are trying to reach the masses with, you may find yourself wondering if your website is relevant or accessible at all. How do you know if you are even visible to your intended audience? One of the best things that you can do once you know exactly what you want your site to be.

The best thing that you can do if you want to determine your current website score is to find a resource where you can get a free website report. Doing this will detail your site ranking and all of the relevant statistics so that you can identify how well the site is performing. With free reports for your site, you will be able to see easily how your site is responding to specific changes.

Keeping up with the search engine requirements and rankings can be difficult to keep up with. The algorithms used by these major players can change at a moments notice, so it is important that you monitor your free website report periodically and get routine statistics on your site visitors. You will be able see how you are performing against the goals that you have predefined.
