I'm not talking about a random family member a kid sees once or twice a year: I'm talking about grown-ups who actively take a parental role in their kids' lives and don't fully accept the responsibility that entails. They try to use adult terms to justify why they don't care enough about their stepchildren, claiming that because they're not biologically related to them, they don't have an obligation to care for them. Sure, they might not have a legal obligation to pay for the life of a child they didn't mother or father, but that's not what's keeping them up at night. What's keeping them up at night is knowing the kid worships them and wants their approval more than anything, yet they aren't doing anything to maintain that relationship.

If a stepchild sees their stepparent bonding with their biological child, they might get jealous and want some of that attention, and that's perfectly natural. A stepparent might be hesitant to include their stepchild in every event they attend with their child, and for good reason! A blended family should never be an excuse for never getting any one-on-one time with your kid. On the other hand, it's kind of cruel to take your son to soccer games all the time, without even asking your stepson if he'd ever want to come.

Stuff that you worked hard to own. As a non-parent, you might be accustomed to the non-kid life. You have breakables in your home and haven't given one thought to childproofing. And that's your right to do. You don't have kids, so you don't need to secure your home for them. But what about the kiddos that come into your life, faster than a moving train? Maybe you're their aunt or uncle, or maybe they're the children of a friend. Either way, you suddenly have kids in your space where there once were none. And kids are nothing if not unpredictable. You never quite know their next move.

You're probably happy to babysit the kids in your life who you love, and you might even do it for free. Someone you love is a parent, and you know they need all the help they can get, so you're happy to swoop in. They're doing a million things, and you can take some things off their plate for a time. You might even love the kids and relish spending time with them. Kids can be an immensely positive influence on your life. They can also break your expensive television set. Both things can be, and usually are true.

Some parents argue that their kids' phones are the parents' property because they pay for them, so another adult should not be permitted to take them, even for a short while. Other parents strongly encourage teachers to reprimand students for phone use in class because they feel it disrupts the educational process. Either way, schools need a cell phone policy across the board. Having different rules in every single class can send mixed messages to students. If it's okay to have your phone out in English class but unacceptable in Math class, students are much more likely to pull out their phones in Math class. If there is a blanket ban on cell phones in the classroom, then teachers should all have a consistent way of enforcing it. If teachers are going to confiscate phones, they should put them somewhere where they know they can't be stolen by other students or easily lost. Imagine the horror of taking your student's cell phone and losing it?

It's not their fault right now, with all that is going on. Honestly, we want to thank them for everything they do! These days, you don't have to be a workaholic to spend much of your week going the extra mile for your job off the clock.

Of course, just because you have the ability to do this does not mean that you should. In fact, a lot of people resent the fact that work is ever more capable of creeping into our personal lives in this way. It is all well and good to set a personal boundary about when and where you are willing to work, but that doesn't mean that managers or coworkers are going to live by the same rules. This is where out-of-hours working becomes a real issue, as there are likely to be conflicts if people do not respect the ways in which other people work. So long as somebody does their job when they are supposed to, it should not be an issue.

It's time for mama and papa to look at memes. And meme you shall, mom and dad! You've earned it.

Below, we have gathered all the funniest parenting memes we came across this week. Like the Easter Eggs your kids gathered in their baskets. You can also have whimsy and LOLs. In fact, it's very important you do! How are you supposed to teach your kiddos to always enjoy life and allow laughter to fill their days if they don't witness you doing just that?

So, it's time to let the kids off the leash for a few minutes. Put them somewhere safe, give them a snack, let them understand the importance of alone time and then allow yourself the same. Laugh! Laugh until your kid comes running to your side, asking you what you're laughing at. And the, you know what? Show them! Who cares if they won't understand the memes? It's about sharing and caring and laughing together. They'll understand one day. For now, it's just about the shared LOLs.

Like a boat or a jet ski, pools are the kind of commodity that is best kept at arm's length to avoid the potential responsibility that comes with them. You always want to have a close friend with a pool, boat, or jet ski, but managing your own (storing it, cleaning it, paying for it, and accepting all the liability that comes with the fun) is a colossal burden.

As a parent with a pool, this burden is compounded because the safety of your kiddos, as well as their friends, their friends' parents, and apparently every neighbor kid on the street. Because once the temperature starts rising, AC bills get higher, and the thought of a sweet little drink by the poolside starts becoming irresistible, your pool will become the most poppin' spot in the neighborhood…

…Whether you like it or not.

A 37-year-old mom recently bought a house with a pool at the end of the street, and for her, it was a dream come true. That is, until she learned about all the ways that homeownership differs from pool ownership. Her own children loved the pool and played like fish until they were pruney on every finger, and sometimes she was gracious enough to let the kids next door come over to play, too. But when the entitled parents next door started seeing her yard and her pool as a free public playground, the lines between fun, responsibility, and property liability started to blur.

No parent wants to be on the hook if something awful happens on their watch, but even when you're not watching, if it's your pool, it's your responsibility.

However, the neighbor parents didn't agree. Instead of asking for permission when their kid wanted a dip, they encouraged a 7-year-old to hop the fence and play in the pool all by his lonesome: No supervision, no parent, and nobody to ensure he stayed safe. But when the homeowner caught them doing this, they tried to brush it off as she owed them the free lifeguard duty, but she wouldn't budge. Now she's facing the backlash in the neighborhood group chat, but the peer pressure will never shake her resolve to parent the boy next door when it seemed like his own parents had lost the plot.

It can chew us up and spit us out, and we won't quite know what hit us. The world is sometimes indifferent to our suffering, and that can leave us feeling like we have nowhere left to turn. This is when we turn to the internet. The internet is a place for us to unload our suffering. It can take it. It is big and vast and knows no bounds. It contains everything and nothing, and that's what we love about it. There is infinity for us to explore. But when you're faced with infinity, it is easy to get overwhelmed. We humans, don't like having too many choices. We like it when things have been whittled down to size so they are easier to consume. We like some amount of control, but not too much control.

While some teens are incredibly committed to their after-school jobs, most are just doing it to get a little extra pocket change. An adult is going to take their job more seriously, both because of the stage of life they're at and because they are working to pay their bills and eat. Adults know that if they get fired, they might not be able to afford to eat. Most teenagers are supported by their parents, so they don't have the internal drive to work to survive. And even if they have a trace of that drive, they usually don't have the discipline and maturity to put it into practice.

The funny thing about fast-food service jobs that pay pennies is that they expect all their employees to take the worst extremely seriously, even though virtually anyone can get one of these jobs, and they aren't paying their workers enough to be emotionally invested in the company's long-term success. My pet theory is that micromanaging service managers are just unsatisfied with their lives, and want to pick on someone smaller than them, so they harass teenage girls working their first job because they want to break their spirit. Any teenage girl who finds herself in a job where she gets yelled at for no reason should run far, far away and find a more chill job. The girl in this story, especially, should do that.

They're not necessarily something you would give yourself, and it shows some forethought in getting them made. And who doesn't want something cute with your name on it? Especially if you have an uncommon name, not likely found on those keychains they sell at souvenir shops. You might keep it for life, cherishing it knowing that the person who gave it to you really thought of you. But what if those gifts had the wrong name on them? You might reconsider that. You don't want to go around repping someone else's name, that would be absurd.

No man is an island, and most people are not able to achieve everything that they want by doing it alone. When you have a relative or a loved one going through a transition like this, your approval can mean more than you think.

Sadly, not all families are willing to be nice to people who decide to take a risk and venture into something new that more closely aligns with what they want out of life. Sometimes, they have legitimate reasons for having doubts about your chosen path, and even if they happen to be right, that can be difficult to hear. Other times, though, they simply relish an excuse to be mean, and nobody should have to put up with that. For most people, struggle comes before success, and if somebody is making a genuine effort to follow their dreams, it is not something that they should be teased for. It only makes all that hard work feel all the more difficult and not worthwhile.

It's only natural, since new hires are much more likely to act as if they will do anything and everything for a company to prove that they're worth keeping around. New hires are much more vulnerable in the event of company layoffs, and they understandably want to avoid losing their job before they even get a chance to get a grasp on it.

The first year of your job can be the most important one for forming relationships with your colleagues. If a new hire doesn't make any effort in the social aspects of their job, it might hurt them when their work isn't up to snuff. If you do a middle-of-the-road job and don't make the effort to speak with your coworkers, you're more likely to be on the cutting room floor than your middle-of-the-road coworker who is friendly with everyone and professes love for the company at every opportunity.

Still, it's hard to be a reliable employee who has been at the company for years when your bosses seem to invest their time and energy only in the new hire. It might be because they like you in your current position and want to keep you there rather than encourage you to climb the ranks. They might not be willing to invest time with you if you haven't taken the initiative to ask them. Whatever the case, it stinks when an employee's vibe is more important than the work itself.

Oftentimes, hindsight has 20/20 vision looking back on entirely incompetent adults or overly mature teenagers, but there are a few parenting decisions that have been tossed by the wayside since our parents' era. And we're really starting to see the effects…

Chores, namely, are not as brutal or as common as they once were. Back in my dear old meemaw's day, kids worked on the farm like little free day-laborers, acting like tiny cowboys and mini adults from the time they were 7 or 8 years old. These kids made turkey dinners and hunted deer before their teenage years, and they were considered "responsible adults" by the time their next sibling was born. Bestowed with responsibility at such a young age, those kids grew up to be extraordinarily mature old souls who reminisced on the days of their childhood lost to manual labor.

Conversely, some kids are born into plushier situations, never lifting a finger until they're forced to in their 20s and learning to boil water during their university years. I once had a college roommate who didn't know how to use a microwave; at the time, I assumed it was weaponized incompetence, but in truth, she just genuinely never had to fend for herself in any way, which turned out to be an egregious disservice in her adulthood.

Just like the dogsitter in this next story, who proved to be completely incompetent, some people learn far too late how to function.

It's like I looked up from my book one day and everyone was trying to eat like a bodybuilder. When did we start putting protein in popcorn? That doesn't sound right? Why can't we just eat like normal people and not inject whey protein right into our bloodstreams? Everything online happens in extremes. We can't have just one thing. We have to have a billion of those things. We can't just put an idea out there; it has to be an ideology. This happens every time. Things have just gotten nuts over the last few years, and you can't remember which way is up. Except here at Cheezburger. We've remained pretty much the same. We bring you funny memes, pictures, and pictures of cats. It's not much, but it's honest work. We try to keep it real with you because you've always kept it real with us. We can be a little slice of safety away from the craziness of the wider internet. You can come here not only when you want a hit of nostalgia, but when you need that nostalgia to feel present. Does that make sense? We've kept up our memory into the 2020s, and we don't have any plan on stopping. Because we all need memes, and we all need new memes. We need stuff that reminds us why we came to the internet in the first place. It wasn't always like this, but here, you can relax. We've got your back, and we're going to have it forever.

This 3-year-old will never forget the magical moment she shared with a couple of local kids when she and her mom stumbled upon a theatrical bit under their "troll bridge" at the park.

Playing along with the little girl's wonder, these teens may not realize how wholesome and sweet their Potterhead rendition would be, but as a parent, this was a priceless experience of real-world magic that goes beyond Harry Potter lore. Sometimes, human beings out in the world really are the best, and they show you with small, sweet acts of random kindness… Or just some really convincing acting, troll sounds, and a touch of spellcasting.

That could be at age 70, 60, 50, or even 35, depending on how much money you have in the bank. Just because you're mentally ready for retirement doesn't mean you can afford its financial burden just yet. The retirement age is rising because boomers are staying in the workforce as long as possible. Sometimes, it's because boomers are unwilling to let go of the power they've acquired in the workplace and hand off responsibility to the next generation. Other times, it's because they haven't saved enough for retirement.

It's not uncommon for older employees to be forced into early retirement. We all know an older relative or former coworker who was unceremoniously laid off a year or two before they planned to retire, when it's borderline impossible to get a new job because nobody will hire someone they think is close to retirement age. Of course, it's technically illegal to fire or refuse to hire someone solely because of their age, but it happens all the time. Companies can lie about why they fired or failed to hire someone, and if the older person doesn't have any proof that they were fired for being old, they are out of luck. Most companies are smart enough to leave no trace of firing an employee for their age alone.

The consultant in this story not only thinks that employees in their 60s should be forced out of their positions, but she also thinks that 38-year-olds are too lethargic to be managers or senior managers in her industry.

For many parents, and especially moms, they can barely feel like there is time to shower, let alone do all the things they could do before the baby arrives. It is a lot.

This can be a time when having family members to help is a godsend, and it is something that many new parents rely on. However, this kind of arrangement can also end up bringing more difficulties, as opposed to easing the burden. Grandparents and other relatives can have their own fixed ideas about the best thing to do during this time, which only creates more stress.

It is no wonder that many parents of newborns try to enforce hard rules about who can come to visit and when. They have enough to deal with and worry about without bringing complicated family dynamics into the mix. They deserve to have the time to themselves, allowing them to acclimatize to their new life in peace. Meddling relatives are unable to help out with that.

Some kids do put their work above everything else in their life, either because they have to support their family now, or they know they'll be entering the workforce full-time as soon as they graduate from high school, so they care less about their grades than someone who is college-bound.

If you're planning on going to college, it's a no-brainer to put your schoolwork above your job every time. A college admissions person is not going to double-check with the assistant manager at the Culver's in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to double-check if you were good at working the drive-thru. They are going to double-check with your high school that the grades you listed on your application are the ones you actually earned in class. No college is going to judge you negatively because you "only" worked at Sonic Drive-In for 3 months during the summer instead of working there for all four years of high school. It's time to close the laptop and grab some food, 'cause it's lunchtime, bestie! And what pairs best with lunch during your work break? Memes!

Wow, can you believe how tired you get only halfway through the day? Is that because you've been awake for half of the day or is that because you need some sustenance? Probably both. Or maybe you're just working really hard. I mean, answering 100 emails a day is mental gymnastics! Or, heck, maybe you work a manual labor job! That's extremely exhausting. We're all sleeping well tonight, that's for sure. But in the meantime, it's lunchtime and you hope the food helps to give you energy. Unfortunately, for some reason, that PB&J and apple have not done anything to bring your energy levels up. Why is that? Because you also need to pair your lunch with some LOLs! Lunchtime means it is also time to munch on some hilarious memes.

Sure, memes don't provide you with calories or protein or whatever it is our bodies need to survive. But what about laughter? You are going to tell me you can survive a whole day without LOLing? No us. We would parish, for sure. A good relatable and hilarious meme is just as satisfying as that slice of pizza you got during your company pizza party… You can't even laugh at those things. You mostly just complain with your coworkers about pizza being your raise.

Especially in the workplace.

When you leave somewhere, you imagine it's for the better. There is a reason that you moved on and moved out. Maybe you weren't being paid enough. Maybe you wanted to move up, and they weren't letting you. Maybe you just needed a change in your life, and your job was the easiest fix. Whatever motivated you to leave, you made the choice, and you had to sit in it for a while. You had to be okay with that decision, no matter where it took you. The last thing you could have imagined is that they would reach out again. You already moved on, and you were fine to live in that reality. But then you get a message from them: Would you like to do some contract work? Boom. You're back in their orbit.

You probably were picturing a clean break. You left those offices assuming that you would never go back in. You had your last cup of coffee from their Nespresso and assumed that was that. But what if it turned out that they wanted you back? You already gave them the business, so now you have the power. So you do what you do when you have the power, and you ask for more. More money, in this case. You have nothing to lose, right? Nothing to lose but your respect for them.

While getting to know your coworkers can be an important part of working as a team, there is a fine line between breaking the ice and offering unsolicited opinions.

Just because saying certain things is considered bad etiquette and could even risk a trip to HR does not stop many individuals from saying it. In fact, there are types of coworkers who hold back very little if they see a good opportunity to manipulate someone or change their mind. As a general rule, it is probably a bad idea to let the opinions of coworkers affect how you conduct your personal life. Nonetheless, that is not always going to stop it from happening. The professional and the personal almost always end up having some overlap, and how much you allow that to happen is a choice. However, this can have a lot of pressure behind it.

If you asked that question 15 years ago, the majority of people would think it's asinine for a teenager to require the most advanced cell phone technology, especially after they've proven they can't use it responsibly. I got a Nokia when I was 10 so that I could communicate with my parents in case of an emergency, text my friends within the limited number of texts per month, and play Tetris. I would definitely have had my phone taken away if I had gone over the allotted texts per month, let alone send cruel messages to my sibling. These days, kids will become social pariahs in middle school if they don't keep up with the latest social media trend, and that's because their parents are as addicted to their phones as their kids, and don't see anything wrong with their little angels having 14 hours of screentime. There's nothing worse than permissive parenting in an era where unfettered access to Instagram and TikTok at age 10 is the norm.

The dad in this story saw firsthand how social media can hurt his kid, even within his own home. His stepdaughter posted a video to her private story that wasn't meant to be seen by any family members. Her stepbrother saw it, and it hurt him deeply. Now, her stepdad has to decide if he's going to punish her by refusing to pay for her phone.

By the sixth or seventh sibling, all the older kids have become full-time babysitters, and as much as it could be fun to have so many brothers and sisters, sharing a household with so many people brings many struggles that kids should not be forced to deal with.

Those are the exact reasons why the sibling below decided to get some space from their family once they were old enough to leave the crowded house. With eight siblings and ten people in the family altogether, no one even had a moment to themselves, and as time went by, the family only grew even bigger.

After getting out of the house, this sibling decided they would rather stay single than have kids, but their 7 siblings did not feel the same. Each of them got married and had children, which is why the family now has 35 people in it, children and spouses included.

The single sibling knew that most of their brothers and sisters were having a hard time financially, especially as the family kept expanding, but they also knew there was no way they could help them all. Instead, they decided to only help the parents and made them promise that the money would not go to any of their other children. However, the rest of the family found out about the help and started making demands of their own. Suddenly, the single sibling was expected to support 35 family members, which was the exact thing they were trying to avoid.

You've had a rough day, and you want to be set free from it. There are a few things you can do in this scenario. You can roll over and lean into the muck and spend all day in bed watching YouTube videos you don't really want to watch. Or you could try to do something about it. You could scrape together your sense of self, put on your shoes, and go for a walk. Nothing wrong with going for a walk, right? It will do wonders for yourself and your psyche. And then you can start to think about what you might want out of the day, now that your mind is a little clearer. You've gotten the spiderwebs out of the kitchen; now you can think about cooking.

And what do we want to do more than laugh? Laughter is literally the best medicine. Have you ever felt bad while laughing? There's a reason we do it to release tension. It's because it makes us feel better. But sometimes a friend isn't around to make you smile. Sometimes you need to reach out to the internet for your humor. You want to outsource the laughs. This is where memes come in. Memes only exist to make you laugh. That's why we keep coming back to them. Because they make us feel good. They make us feel marginally better about our surroundings and ourselves. And isn't that about all we can ask for these days? So if that sounds like something you need, then keep scrolling.

Admittedly, there will always be days, and even whole periods of our lives, when we find this difficult, but that should not stop us from trying. The route to a small burst of happiness is often simple, like going on a nice walk or enjoying our favorite snack.

Wholesomeness is something that almost everybody is capable of; it is simply a matter of creating the conditions that allow this to flourish. Sometimes an attitude change is in order, but there is also the question of what we choose to surround ourselves with as well. It is easier to be positive when we are consuming things that are positive.

These days, finding wholesome memes to look at is arguably one of the best ways to practice this. At this point, they have to cover pretty much every pleasant experience and heartwarming moment out there, many of which are open for all of us to experience in real life, as well as through a screen. If that weren't the case, there would not be so many people creating and sharing this kind of content so regularly. That is a blessing in itself, and one that we would do well to pay attention to.

Similarly, if an employee shows up 30 minutes late due to an unfortunate commute, they might stay 30 minutes late to make up for the lost time. For most office workers, their boss isn't going to flip their lid if they show up a couple of minutes late, as long as it doesn't escalate into something more extreme. There's a big difference between being 5 minutes late and an hour late, and if the former turns into the latter, you might get in trouble with the suits. At a salaried white-collar position, you don't "clock in" the same way you would if you were a nurse or a store clerk. In those positions, things can go a lot more awry if a bunch of employees are late, which is why hourly jobs tend to be more strict about timeliness. Whether being late is a big deal depends on the kind of work you're doing and who you're working with. I'd be understandably angry if I had to join a meeting at 8 PM from the UK, and my coworkers who worked in America were late. How hard is it to show up to a 3 PM meeting?

The employee in this story is understandably angry about being scolded by her boss for being two minutes late, especially since she stays 15-20 minutes after her shift ends nearly every day of the workweek.

Even if it's for a friend, there is only so much you're willing to do for free. You don't want to undervalue yourself too much, or else you'll never get over it. It's nice to do things for friends, since you hope they will return the favor. But what would you do for someone that you had a falling out with? You might really draw the line in the sand then. You don't want to go out of your way just to keep the peace with someone you don't really care about keeping the peace with. The person in this story went through a pretty dramatic falling out with their friend ahead of their wedding. Initially, they were going to help out with some of the wedding festivities. Everyone knows how expensive and demanding weddings can be, and you probably want to cut costs where you can. This is where DIY comes into play. Maybe you make your own centerpieces at home using stuff from the Dollar Store. Maybe you re-work a vintage dress instead of finding a whole new one. But this is a very different thing from relying on your friends to do the work for you. Especially if you're not that close.

Also, it has likely been a long time since they had to look after kids, and they may find that they are not up to the challenge in their current phase of life. While the offering of a free babysitter in the family is a godsend to most parents, it is not necessarily going to have a happy ending.

The unfortunate thing about it not working out when grandparents babysit is that they might not be happy to have their childcare opportunities taken away. After all, many dote on their grandkids even if they are not the best fit for looking after them consistently. When they are no longer given this responsibility, they can take it as a message that their kids do not want them to be around their grandchildren. This can only make them become more defensive, even if the decision is the right thing for everyone involved.

AI-Psychosis is not a clinical diagnosis, but an identifiable phenomenon where the use of AI has increased psychotic symptoms. Thinking that there is a real person on the other end of your conversation with Chat-GPT is a concrete example of AI-Psychosis. If you are falling into delusional thinking patterns, AI bots can mirror your language, reinforcing and amplifying said delusions instead of pointing you towards the truth.

The question remains, where is the line between AI-Psychosis and getting tricked by AI? Is it fair to say that boomers are literally going insane when they think an AI video is real?

Now, in 2026, people who can make fire memes are the really beloved artists. Oh, you don't think so? Well, scroll through the hilarious museum-worthy memes below, then! You'll change your mind.

If memes were hung in museums, would they still be as funny? Have memes been hung in museums? It's crazy that there hasn't been a permanent meme museum created yet. I'm sure there's been SOMETHING out there portraying memes as the work of cultural art that they are, but nothing as famous as, say, the MoMA or the British Museum or something. So for now, the only museum we have for memes is the internet. And what a wonderful museum it is!

Maybe you both keep to yourselves and make sure your areas are clean, but that doesn't mean you won't run into conflict. Stuff is bound to come up, even between the most solid roommates. One of these problems is the use of shared space. Every time you're sharing something, you have to negotiate how you're going to do it. And if you're one of those people who didn't have to grow up sharing anything (cough cough, only children), then you might not be so comfortable with the idea of it. Or you might feel conflict-averse when this stuff comes up.

The best thing you can do in almost any situation is communicate, and that means putting on your big girl pants and having a potentially difficult conversation. This is not easy to do. You have to be able to keep a clear head and not get too emotional, and you have to make yourself clear. You also have to be okay with compromise. You won't always get everything that you want, and you have to learn to live with that. But you can assert yourself and your needs without feeling bad about it. You don't want to let anyone in your life walk over you without a second glance.

The prospect of dealing with what it is like to be unemployed or without an extra salary in this day and age keeps plenty of people stuck in jobs that do not serve their best interests.

At the same time, this opens up the opportunity for less respectable employers to mess around with their workers and expect no repercussions for it, simply because they are grateful that they still have a job. If some drastic move makes management happy or somehow saves them money, they will have no qualms in doing it and allowing somebody lower down in the food chain to suffer the consequences.

Needless to say, this is a difficult situation to be in when you are one of the employees affected by this kind of behavior. If you let it happen, it is likely that you will have to deal with even worse treatment down the line, but if you stand up for what is right, you may get punished for it.

A lot of kids raised by single parents wish they could meet their absent parent, even though they fully know that they are not a good person. That doesn't stop some children of single parents from being morbidly curious to know literally anything about the parent who abandoned them.

A sad truth of deadbeat parents is that a lot of them just move on to their next family and pretend like the first one never happened. They start over with a new partner and new children, who never judge them or perceive them as someone who abandoned their kids from a previous relationship. If you're one of the kids who was left behind for a new, happy, shiny family, you will feel miserable trying to integrate into their new family structure, feeling like an outsider with your own parent.

The high school graduate in this story spent her childhood summers playing second fiddle to her dad's stepdaughter, and she refuses to do it any longer. Her refusal to invite him to her high school graduation made him angry, but he should've thought of that before he ignored her for years on end.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is online culture! Let's take a trip back to our very first LOLs.

It does not cooperate with cones. Regular flavors roll into neat balls for that cute mascot head look on a waffle cone. Sherbet just crumbles like wet orange sand. Staff figured out a hack years ago. We're not going to "consciously uncouple" from our paychecks.

One of the key factors that keeps most people showing up to work is money. Maybe they care about what they do. Maybe they have a passion for it. Maybe, just maybe, they would show up if there was no money on the line. But unfortunately, it costs money to live, and you have to spend your life doing something, so you're probably going to work for money. This is the basic function of having a job. You show up, give them your time, effort, and ideas, and in exchange, they give you money with which to live your life. If this fundamental mechanism falls apart, then where are we left? This fundamental part of job-hood falls apart more than you think it would, though. We all have different relationships to money, and sometimes that means that you underestimate how much it means to others.

Sometimes, the meaning of "bad culture fit" is obvious. If you bring up your desire for work-life balance in a job interview for a startup that demands its employees work 12 hours a day, you are objectively a bad fit for their culture, and they will reject you. It saves both the company and the job seeker a whole lot of time and worry if they're honest about their expectations of each other regarding the office culture. If you're uncomfortable discussing any aspects of your personal life with your coworkers, you might not be suited to an office culture where employees go to happy hours together multiple times a week. It's not wrong for companies to want to hire someone who will fit in with their future coworkers, rather than someone who thinks they're too good to discuss the weather every once in a while.

If you are continually getting rejected from jobs because you're not a culture fit, it is very possible you're giving off bad vibes during interviews. The job seeker in this story was told by three different companies that he is not a cultural fit, and he theorized that recruiters were only hiring employees who looked and sounded like them. Other professionals concurred that he might be the problem.

We likely don't get enough of it anyway, so we should feel free to use it in a way that suits our needs. We should use it to support our lives and our free time. If that means taking it all at once so you can go on a jet-setting vacation, then so be it. If it means taking a few days off here and there for some staycations and short trips, then that is your prerogative. It's your time, so you should be able to use it how you see fit. But getting coverage for work is not always a simple thing. If you're good at your job, which I'll assume you are, then there are probably tasks that would fall to the wayside when you're not there.

Preparing for a day off can be tricky business, because you want to honor the fact that you're taking time off, and don't want to create too much extra work for yourself, but you also want to make sure all your bases are covered. This is where your coworkers come in. You can all take turns making sure each other has coverage for time off, and hope that it all shakes out equally in the end. This doesn't always happen, though, and can end up feeling pretty unfair. That's what happened here.

This is the premise of so many holiday nightmare stories.

At the same time, if the destination is on the bucket list or you really want to take the trip to spend time with family and friends, there is a chance that you may be willing to compromise. When it comes to vacationing, there are many factors that can make it so special. It doesn't always have to be about staying in the most luxurious surroundings.

The most important thing is that everybody who is going on vacation is on board with the plan. If one person is happy for things to be a certain way but another isn't, it is just a recipe for arguments that are going to sour what should be a good time. As with so many issues, communication is key, and sometimes, it is better not to take a trip at all than do one that is going to make you miserable.
