I am very glad to announce a cute publication about handmade stamps, edited by Jenny Doh, in which I actively participated! Jenny gathered projects from some compulsive stamps makers (amongst which are included Ishtar Olivera, Kerri Winterstein, Josephine Ho, Riyo Kihara, Noelle Griskey, Gertie Jaquet, Cynthia Shaffer, Sarah Patro, and me!!) and displays many ideas about ho to use a stamp. This book included also a lot of motifs to do your own stamps... the fun is guaranteed! The book is now for sale and it is available here and here. Picnic parade

The coming of spring allows us to finally recharge our energies, after the long, tiring and grueling winter. Spring is able to meet the need of our bodies of sun and of warm air... and, what's better than a picnic en plein-air to take profit of good days and of the nature?

The picnic is probably derived from the French "pique-nique", which means to pick (pique) something of little importance (nique), this last refers to finger food or easy-to-cook food. Yes, because a meal eaten outdoor has to be easy, jovial and also fun. For that it fun to prepare fun bentos with little wieners cut with the shape of octopus, broccolis, boiled eggs, nice peas, fresh tomatos and shrimps tempura!

Waiting for a warm spring able to push over the cold winter, which still persists here in Paris, I have already prepared plenty of delicious finger foods, reshaped in cute kawaii style. I hope these hand carved rubber stamps and these fimo magnets could help the spring to come, starting the seasons of delicious picnics en plein air! You can find them on my etsy shop!!!

Cute panda mania

Perhaps, pandas are the only creatures able to provoke an universal feeling of tenderness. Who does not love pandas, indeed?! Maybe, this is due to their lovely and defenseless appearance, which makes them similar to living teddy bears; maybe this is because we imagine them all the time eating calmly bamboos... the reality is that it is impossible to escape from their irresistible and innocent charm! And, it doesn't matter if they are not peaceful at all, as in the advertising here below...

Actually, they belong to the family of bears... and it should not be pleasant to find up in front of a angry panda of a hundred or more of kilos! This genial advertising exploit indeed this apparent contrast between the believed cuteness of the panda and the actual behavior of this panda, a overbearing and menacing bully! And, as I just cannot say no to panda...

...few days ago, I decided to go along my wishes and I purchased some cooking tools essential for panda lovers from casabento, an on-line retailer of cute stuffs for kitchen in japanese style based in France... they are just arrived and I have spent last time in preparing cute and delicious onigiri with the shape of little pandas...

And, being at the mercy of this panda fever, I have also created a series a gift ideas, all dedicated to this soft lazy friend with black spots around their eyes like eye sockets.... Check out all my panda creations on my etsy, I hope you like them!!!

How to use and to take care of hand carved rubber stamps

Stamps allow to print images onto a huge number of materials: from paper to plastic, from wood to fabric, from glass to ceramic, the list is so long! Out of any doubt, this is probably the easiest technique for printing because it is so immediate. It is sufficient to find the right ink for your purpose to start the adventure. Many of you have asked for advises or tips about how to use hand carved rubber stamps or about how to take care of them after using... For that, I take decision to write a post to summarize all my instructions and tips that I was able to gather during my personal experience....

We start with inks. Actually, one of key knowledge about the use of stamps, is to choose the right ink pad for your purposes. Fortunately, you can find a huge range of varieties of ink pads on the market place. For instance, I experienced the use the Versacraft's and ColoBox's, because they are good quality and very versatile inkpads, which are optimal both on paper and on fabric. In this last case, you need to iron on high heat for few minutes onto the print in order to make your image permanent to washing (in any case, it is preferable to wash your fabric up to 30° C not to damage your printing).

I have recently discovered an inkpad called Versafine, which is able to capture fine details like no other. Thus, it is very useful for industrial stamps that, differently to the hand carved ones, are harder and absorb with much difficulty the ink issuing an inexact print. This ink pad is very useful in these cases, in order to make a very exact print of your image!

About stamping onto other materials, I find out that ArchivalInk is very useful for projects that need a waterproof and permanent ink. For instance, I use this ink to stamp onto very smooth surfaces, such as the shrink plastic. The StazOn is appropriate for all surfaces, but it is especially designed for the use on plastic, metal, glass, ceramic, laminated or coated papers, and leather. Differently to the Versacraft, StazOn is not suitable for fabric. For these special inkpads, I suggest to read carefully the instructions on the box in order to have best results.

And now, some insights about how to clean your hand carved rubber stamps. They need to be careful because they are more fragile and delicate than industrial ones. Pay attention to avoid to twist or scrub them. Press the stamp several times on the work surface or on some paper to remove the excess ink. If you would like to obtain a cleaner stamp, you can also use a kneaded eraser on which to dab your stamp. You can also rinse it with some fresh water and allow it to air dry completely. But in all cases, be really careful to never scrub or scrape it, even a little hurt with your nails can damage your stamp! My recommendation is just not to want to bring the rubber to the "white" because a) it is not needed for using your correctly the stamp and b) it could damage it.

Some last words about storage stamps. It is important not to stack stamps in top of each other because they could stick to each other. Store your stamps with their carved face up in a plastic or wooden cases, so you will keep them free from dust. It is also preferable to avoid to expose them to excessive heat or light, this will damage your stamps. Packaging signs stamps

Sometimes, I meditate on the huge travel that parcels make after sending. Actually, a lot of parcels I send makes an incredible travel across the world. Parcels can traverse thousands of miles before arriving to the their recipient, passing from hands to hands and stopping over dozens of post offices, ports, airpots and so forth... up to their arrival either to an overcrowding big town or to an isolated place in the middle of nowhere... Being aware of that, I always put a lot of care in wrapping my items and in making my packaging because I want to assure the maximum care to my sendings, in order to shields items from accidental damages, weather conditions and other perils of the travel!

These feelings are so common in all senders. By-the-by, sendings are often posted with special packaging labels upon them, which aim to keep the other people informed about how to handle the pack that they have in their hands. Yet, I find these instructions rather cold, too much "bureaucratic" to be really considered or noticed. For that, I wanted to create a set of cute labels, which aim to inform with kindness all the postmen, custom officers and other people that will take charge to manage our sendings, in order to push them to behave their utmost with pleasure when they handle packs! Sweet honey bear

During these last frozen days of winter, it is very easy to catch a cold with fastidious and painful sore throats. Yet, no need to be disparate about this: actually, this could be the pretext to appeal to old handmade remedies, such as the hot milk with honey that, more than being miraculous, it is also delicious!

And this gave also the pretext to find out a cutie: the amazing sweet honey bear! Yes because the honey is delicious but it is even sweeter in a cute container! To this fetish item, I wanted to dedicate a new collection of mine, formed by a stamp set, some stickers, a pencil case and a felt brooch. The pleasure of tiny things. Emilia's creations

Sometime ago I discovered the wonderful world of the vintage wooden type drawers. They are a really cute embellishments, able to give a cozy and personal touch to my sweet home. And, since I discovered this, I cannot stop myself to buy this kind of drawers when I find them in Parisian flea markets... hopefully, it is not so easy to find them and, since my first one, I was able to find only other two! Indeed, I fear that the walls of my little attic already reached their maximum load capacity!!! Once hanged on the wall, the race starts to find out all kind of tiny things to fulfill all the cases. During my researches for cute miniatures, I discovered Emilia and I fell in love with her amazing creations!

In her wonderful shop on etsy, Emilia shows a lot of cute miniatures in polymer clay. She also proposes to make custom orders. And this is what I asked: it was sufficient to send some pictures of Fifi and after few days I received this tiny marvel! It is unbelievable the care that Emilia puts in details and the perfection of this very very little miniature. In order to understand the size of this miniature, it is sufficient to see the photos here around: I have taken some photos of this miniature with the littlest items I was able to find in my home. Isn't it the sweetest thing ever seen?

And here's the miniature of Fifi installed in its place on my new type drawer: She's now found a special place amongst other little friends!!!

Geometric style

Even if geometry was so boring at school, I find out that it could be very stylish if turned in some cute jewelries to wear. During last times, I have done a series of geometric forms with Fimo, with which I subsequently produced some garland necklaces... I made them in various colors and in two variations of forms, one with the shapes of a triangle and one with the shapes of scalloped (half circles), I hope you like them, check them out on my etsy!!

Inspired by these geometric forms, I have also made a series of hand carved rubber stamps, in which there are a triangle, circle, star, square and a polygon with the shape of a bow. They can be used to embellish you paper projects, but also on other surfaces. Using them on fabric, for instance, I created a cute pattern with with I've done also a pencil case. I hope you like all these geometric creations, you can find them on my etsy!!!

The Spring Festival !!!

The Spring Festival starts today and, as each year, certain districts of Paris are going to be covered of red lanterns, dragons, lions and other items that belongs to the Chinese tradition. The Chinese New Year is henceforth a folkloristic tradition in Paris: for a week, many activities are organised in several corners of the town and will end next sunday with the "lantern festival" and the traditional Dragon Parade (Le Défilé du Dragon). Today it starts the year of the Snake, which takes the place of the Dragon. And to celebrate the new year and bring good luck with me, I have done some special hand carved rubber stamps that you can find on my Etsy: a Snake, a Cat (Meneki-neko) and a Daruma Doll!!

According with the Chinese mythology, the origins of this festival comes from the legend of Nian, a monster that lived in China and was used to come out from its lair once a year to eat crops, livestocks, people and, especially, children. Then, it was discovered that Nian feared loud noises and things colored in red: for that, the red is still now the lucky color of Chinese New Years and traditional parades are accompanied by dances, songs and fireworks!

As far as the New Year brings with it good intentions and wishes for the future, I have made during last days some Daruma dolls. These dolls, which belongs to the Japanese and Buddhist traditions, are talismans of good-luck and perseverance. It is believed that they can help to realize our dreams and projects. I have already presented these dolls one year ago (see my blog here); this year, I have bought one of this doll in a Japanese shop here in Paris (the bigger one in the picture here above), but, as I had a lot of desires to express, I have also produced more of them with my hands in paper-mache.

If you want to make your own Daruma, I would like to share with you these instructions to make the paper-mache (about 1 kg of dough). You need 5 sheets of newspaper, 3 spoons of vinyl glue, 3 spoons of flax seed oil, and 3 spoons of plaster in powder. Tear up the newspaper sheets in little pieces of 2-3 cm with your hands following the sense of the texture. Leave the paper in a pot with some water for a couple of days for macerating. Then, you can boil the water and you can use a hand blender in order to make the dough more homogeneous. Now, your paper is a mush that has to be filtered in order to expel the water in excess (do not squeeze too much the dough). At this stage, add the glue, the oil and the plaster and work the dough out. The dough is now ready to be used to make your Daruma: a tip to do these dolls is to insert a weight on the bottom of the doll in order to stand up ad a roly-poly. I hope you have fun with paper-mache!!!

Happy birthday Fifi!!! Dog party hat template

Today Fifi turns 1 year old! Happy birthday to you, Fifi!!! I had a lot of fun in organizing a very little birthday party with a special birthday cake (some corn beef), a candle, a gift and... a party hat!!!

The most difficult thing was to find on-line a template to make a party hat that fits with the small Fifi's coconut... and, for that, I made it to be shared with you! Download it here, print it, and use it freely to have fun for your next dog-party! In my case, I have also embellished it with a circle stamp - that was the eraser of a pencil! Happy birthday again, Fifi!!!

Snow in Paris: it is roly-poly time!

If Paris is a beautiful town, it is even more under the snow! Also Fifi, which usually hates the cold, is unable to resist to the fascination of snow!! Here in the photos around, she is playing in the unrecognizable park aside the Louvre completely covered by the snow... and her new game is to catch an iced ball...

The cold has some positive sides also for me: indeed, hot chocolates, croissants beurre and pains au chocolat become compulsive pauses during the afternoon in order to warm me up. Also people around become more pleasant than usual. The snow and the cold spread a kind of happiness all around, and people appears really funny muffled in pillowy down jackets from which only the face pops out. Especially kids are turned into sweet and milling bundles and look like little Roly Polies: those dolls that right themselves when pushed over.

Thus, I have taken inspiration from this first snowfall of the year to produce these fluffy brooches in fabric made with the shapes of this cult toy, which is able to contain both sweetness and determination at the same time. Actually, the nevelashka or venka-vstanka is the Russian version of Roly Poly: in Japanese is called okiagary, meaning to get up (oki) and arise (agari). This characteristic has come to symbolize the ability to have success, overcome adversity, and recover from misfortune.

I have created 10 different styles for these brooches, with different hairs and different cloths. Actually, I used my favorite fabrics!! By this way, you could find your favorite one, able to warm your heart during this cold winter!

They inspired me to make also a hand carved rubber stamp set with which to create uncountable colored Roly Polies! Stamps also gave me the opportunity to do some paper stickers with the shapes of these dolls in the blue and red version. I hope you like my creations, you can find them on my etsy!!!

Le tourbillon

Love is maybe the biggest adventure in human life. It is like a "whirlwind" that shocks our feelings and our beliefs. For that, I think that this song, "le tourbillon" is able to express for the better this feeling: at the same time it is something unpredicted that happens of our life and that changes it irreversibly as a whirlwind... I would like to dedicate this song, performed by the fascinating Jeanne Moreau in the Truffaut's film Jules et Jim, to all lovers...

As within a month it will be Saint Valentine's day, I made a couple of special sets of hearts (fun jewelry and a stamp) to use to express the feeling of love for our beloved. I hope you like them, check them out on my etsy!

Stamping around in Paris

I have often written that Paris is a kind of inspiring muse for me: not only its landmark, its monuments, its panoramas... but also its air in the streets, the smells of bread coming out from boulangeries, its melancholic grey skies, its bruising atmosphere in the cafés...

These are some of the pictures that I have taken during my walks with my indefatigable dog, Fifi! Thanks to her, I am discovering again this amazing town, even in its hidden corners that very often disclose to me new and unexpected artistic and poetic inspirations!

And I have dedicated some hand carved rubber stamps to my muse!! I have made 8 stamps inspired to this town, which represent L'Arc de Triomphe, Le Sacre Coeur, Le Panthéon, Le Moulin Rouge, La Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame, Les Pyramides du Louvre and a Tree (this one useful to represent the parks!). Actually I prepared a quick tutorial to learn how to make fun and easy-to-do felt mascots inspired to my favorite fairy-tales: Pinocchio, the little red ridding hood, Alice in wonderland, and Snow White. This Xmas, I have made a couple of fun jewelry set to become the perfect gift to make happy a special person. Serious and precious jewelries are so boring... instead I prefer to embellish outfits with a touch of cuteness, in order to spread all around the joy of a funny and smily style!!

These are completed sets with earrings, a brooch and a necklace, in two version: one with a lovely bear and another one with a smiling cloud. They are special productions, I realized them with some glittered FIMO, and only one exemplar of each one exist. So, if you are interested hurry up on my etsy!

Xmas is approaching

Xmas is approaching and the hunting for gift has already started with the growing dose of stress that, as all years, comes along... But my favorite activity for Christmas is to prepare unique and cute greeting cards and wrapping. This years I prepared some stamps that will be very useful to customize my gifts, my greetings, and each of my "merry xmas" will be different to the other one!

As you can see in the photos posted above here, I have hand carved a set of stamps with the shape of different xmas balls: a star, a round one, a dotted one and also a long and twisted one! They fit perfectly with their hook for hanging to form a cute combined stamp. I have a lot of fun in drawing with a pen also the faces onto the ball... in my journal, the page of 25th december is already fully decorated!!

More than these xmas balls, I have carved also a stamp with the shape of a Dala Horse. Dala horses, also known as Dalecarnian horses, are typical wooden horses of the Swedish folklore. They are symbol of Sweden, but their "kurbits" style recalls to me also the typical atmosphere of the xmas, of the snow, and of the rigid cold of the great north. As a consequence, this xmas many decorations of mine will use the cute Dalas, with which I have also created some stickers to be used to embellish packs and wrappings. All these ideas for xmas, and more other, are available on my esty.

Last but not least: I also created a special and unique listing, on sale only for this time on my etsy, with some felt animals to be used as decorations and ornaments in your xmas threes. Hurry up if you like it, this set will not be available again in the future!!

My little Astro Dog

Since Fifi arrived in my life, much spare time of mine is systematically spent in having walks with her, and in find out places in Paris where she can meet up with other dogs. And I have to admit that it is really pleasant to look at Fifi while she is playing: she keeps always a very kind behavior, immediately able to strike up friendship with all other dogs!

I do not know if because of her funny, pointed, movable hears, or because of her happy and melancholic look at the same time, but Fifi remembers me Astro Boy indeed. As you maybe know, Astro boy is maybe the principal chef d'oeuvre de "Godfather of Anime", Osamu Tezuka. Created during 1950s, and turned in a TV program during 1960s, Astro Boy is a kind of Pinocchio of the future, created from the mind of a mad scientist that, after the dead of his beloved son, aimed to replicate him with a robot. The Astro Boy's anime tells the story of a boy-robot in a fictional future in which men and very advanced technologies coexist, even if not without difficulties.

Actually, his father-creator realized soon that the Astro Boy could not replace completely his son; in particular, the incapacity of Astro Boy to grow like all other children became insupportable for the scientist who took decision to sell out Astro Boy, as mere thing, to an evil circus manager. After some times, Astro Boy was "saved" from this circus by another scientist, who instead remarked his unique and special "human" behaviors and emotions, which other robots have not, such a natural inclination to be kind and warm, to be altruist, to fell happy or sad depending on situations. In a certain way, Astro Boy is a deep exploration in what human beings are and in what to be human means, told from the standpoint of a "non-human". I am sure that you have already seen the 1980s version of Astro Boy, but recently I found out also the original series from 1960s on youtube. And now I am addict!

Going ahead with my thought about Fifi, her pointed hears, and her similarities with Astro Boy, I get the inspiration to crave a couple of stamps with the shapes of Astro Boy: one done with the old-school version, and also another one done following the Astro Boy Tezuka Moderno, its ultra-kawaii version, which appeared recently in the comics stores. I hope you like them!

The town of Carrousels

Paris is the town of carrousels. I am often surprised by the countless number of carrousels that are scattered around both in very touristic places (such as nearby the Tour Eiffel, in Montmartre, at the Hotel de Ville, in the Marais etc.) and in the hidden corners of the town or in the parks. More than the permanent ones, which work all year long, during the Xmas period more carrousels are installed in each district. Their lights and their whistling jingles are able to bring even more romanticism in this town and to warm up the hearts of both young and old ones, in spite of the big cold.

When I see the laugh blossoming in the children faces when they ride on a carrousel, I always think that sophisticate things are not necessary to get fun and to be happy. Also simple things, inherited from the past and built following low-tech considerations, are able to spread happiness all around: as a consequence, those things are rightly evergreen creations loved by everyones. Carrousels are maybe one of few things that are able to perfectly combine poetry, fun, and beauty.

And carrousels inspired me to create a new stamp, which I used to made a pendant necklace with shrink plastic and some stickers to embellish notebook and other stuff. You can find them on my etsy. I hope you like them!!!

My parisian rainy days

Today Paris's weather is back to its rainy normalcy. After three days in which Paris was hugged by an unusual warm and sunny weather similar to Indian Summer often described by novelists and meteorologists, a cold rain is appeared again proving that this is the most frequent weather condition of this town. And, me and Fifi will never stop to complain about it!

Yet, cloudy and rainy conditions have also their good side. For instance, they push me, as in the past, to conceive amulets to propitiate the coming of the sun and they confine me in my studio during the necessary time to create them.

And, during some rainy afternoons, I create those items, inspired to a smiling rainy cloud to be stamped on your paper, to be wear as a brooch on you (trench) coat, or to be get on as a necklace. I wish you many sunny days or, at least, to have an umbrella and an amulet when outside it rains.

Likewise for the ghost presented in the last post, these clouds were made with FIMO and with a sort of cookie cutter made in metal by me with a shape of a cloud and of a raindrop. You can find all these cloudy creations on my etsy, I hope you will like them!!!

Trick or treat? Scary cute ghosts are coming

As Halloween is approaching, I get the inspiration to produce some goods inspired to the scary world of ghosts and spirits. With some FIMO Effect Glitter and a sort of cookie cutter made by me with the shape of a ghost, I have made a cute scary pendant. And I have also carved a rubber stamp with the shape of this smiling ghost. Boo!

Yet these items are not only the perfect gadget for halloween: they could be used all the year long, to embellish your style with fun or to put a ghost presence on you paper project or on your journal. You can find both of them on my etsy, I hope you like them!

A blast from the past

This summer I had the chance to find out an amazing shop on ebay, which brought me back in the past thanks to a unique selection of vintage items that belonged to my childhood. Such, for instance, Poochies' stamps, which I get used to collect with enthusiasm and to use without moderation. I believe that they are the cause of my actual passion for stamps. I remember that my mother was less enthusiast than me because I enjoyed to stamp them out on everything was within my reach, including walls :). Anyway, tarlo-toys is like the Ali-Babà's cave for all persons that, in spite of being - like me - around 30 years old, pine for the favorite puppet of their childhood.

Here I have purchased this wonderful item: a Memole's "copier" (or "copywriter") from the beginnings of 1980s, perfectly conserved and arrived to me along with its original box. Thanks to this amazing tool, it is possible to create countless images of Memole and her friends, the cuteness of which is out of any doubt, using 22 plastic moulds. Because of this magical Memole's copier is now almost impossible to be found, I took decision to share with you the images which you can find here, merged in four files (1, 2, 3, and 4). You can download freely these images, I hope you will have fun coloring them up and using them to decorate your journal, cards, or wherever you would like!

Inspired by this cute elf in a red pointed hat, I have also created a series of stamps and a felt brooch of Memole and of her little fluffy friend, Pacopaco. You can find them on my etsy shop. I hope to have succeed in evoking in you too happy souvenirs or to have contributed to diffuse Memole amongst younger generations, who had not the change to grow up with her fantastic adventures!
