Today we are having a fun day just hanging out. Later we will be having a 4th of July
BBQ to celebrate with our American guests. This is a first for me. :)

Been taking pictures of the kidlets which I haven't been doing as much of lately.
Loving some of the new pics. This one makes me giggle...

Austin pretending to be a blood sucking vampire. Magnus looks very afraid
         doesn't he?

I love that I captured this photo of Harper. It seems every time I turn around she
is reading. So happy she has picked up this habit. This photo will definitely be added
         to her summer scrapbook album.

And then every once in awhile you get a priceless photo. One single second captured
that just sums up your child so perfectly.

This photo captures Magnus so perfectly - as he is right
now - looking a bit more grown up, a happy, carefree smile and a twinkle in
         his eye. Priceless to me.

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends out there. Have a safe one!

Sometimes it is really great to scrap your latest photos. I took these yesterday when
my new nephew came for a visit (9 days old).

I just wanted a page to document his birth - no fancy journaling required!

Did you have a kid table for big family dinners? We did. When I was little I loved
it. When I was thinking I was big enough to be at the adult table I hated it!

Today I added a new kind of KID TABLE to our home. A permanent one. Not something
that is pull out to hold the overflow at family dinners. A different kind.

            A crafting kid table.

It is actually something that I have wanted for a very long time but space has never
allowed for it. Now I have the space. (You can see my table directly behind Magnus.)
This means I can leave my stuff where it is (Harper had a permanent spot directly
across from me but it doesn't work with my new table shape) and not have to shuffle
things when they wander in and want to be near me - crafting or reading or having
large Star Wars battles with my buttons....

A few weeks ago my hubby switched out my crafting table for a new (to me) glass dining
room table. I have loved this change. The table has little visual weight because it
is clear and it leaves my crafting room feeling very open. Then there the dilemma
of what to do with my old table (a dining room table also). It was decided it would
go into storage in the basement until a need arose. It never made it 'cause I suddenly
realized that if I took out the center piece I could make it into a small table -
            perfect for the kids.

Today I cleared some of the mess in my scrap space (hey I'm human!) and set up the
table. It took Magnus about 1/2 a second to realize this meant he could come and craft
when I was working. Out came the stamps, some printer paper and some ink and he was
            a happy little dude!

I have to admit it was tiny bit distracting but
in the best possible way! I cannot resist watching him play and make noises
and craft- all at at the same time. He totally knows how to do it all - how to ink
his stamps, how to clean them with a scrubbing pad and how to get darker and lighter
            images. :)

And since he knows I go away to teach he then explained his techniques to me so then
I could share this with my classes (his words!). He was very serious about the whole
thing. He even volunteered his samples so I could show my classes.

According to Magnus - sometimes when you want a really, really good stamped
image it is best to stand so you can really "push off" all the ink. LOL

Seriously. Could he be any cuter?

THIS is the reason I wanted a kid table in my crafting space. I am sure Harper will
have some gems like these for me to love.

(I am now on the look out for fun containers and baskets to hold some of their supplies
so they can really feel like it is their space.)

Today is Magnus' last day of school (Harper's is tomorrow.) I almost forgot to take
a picture of him this morning but at the last minute I did. (He was actually being
driven there today because he had to bring a plate of snacks for the party - I had
to get him back out of the truck to snap some photos.)

         Junior Kindergarten done. WOW! It
         has gone by so fast.

Seeing these two photos together has made me decide to make a "before and after" scrapbook
page. I have never really done this type of scrapbook page before as my pages usually
centered around one particular event but I think it will be kinda nice to show how
he looked on both his first and last day (basically the same - just a taller and a
little leaner but his body language is so much older now). Will you be doing
something similar if you have kidlets?

Now I am off to get ready to leave for the Great
American Scrapbook Convention - I leave tomorrow. I have received lots of emails
from excited people attending - can't wait to see you all! Two more sleeps...

About a month ago I went on an organizational blitz. The main point of attack?
      My crafting room.>

I had set up my crafting room shortly after moving last fall and it needed some tweeks
now that I had been working in there for awhile. Certain things were too far, somethings
were to close and cluttered...oh and the fact that I am disaster waiting to happen
so my space always looks kinda like a tornado just went through it. :)

         Yup! It needed some work!

So I thought and studied and thought some more to figure out some of the problem areas.
One was that my page embellishments had outgrown the baskets that I normally kept
them in. Add to this was the fact that my tools (punches, scissors, paints, embossing
powders, etc) were not easily accessible so I wasn't using them as often as I wanted.

So I decided to clear off the shelves where I normally keep my embellishments to make
way for all the tools (will show you this soon) and transferred my embellishments
         to a Clip
It Up. I have to tell you I was shocked at how much it held.

I decided I would go with a Base
         Unit and an Upper
Tier Add-on which I was hoping would hold my alphas sticker/rub-on and my flat
         embellishments.

Umm...it held a wee bitmore than that, lol.

I started by adding in all my alpha - basically short items on the top tier and long
items on the bottom sorting everything by color.

Next came my basket of flat embellishments.

As you can see my Clip
It Up was nowhere near full. I was pleasantly surprised because those baskets
held A LOT of supplies. Out came my basket of chipboard shapes. I never, ever expected
to be able to add this but guess what? It all fit! Oh and then there were these...

Should I admit that this is not even my full stack of Thickers?
Umm...it is...not. Admitting you have a problem is the first step right? OK. Here
it is. I am addicted to Thickers. And
the addiction doesn't seem to be letting up (remember this recent
         purchase?)

OK. Back to the organization of my Thicker addiction...

I added everything to my Clip
It Up and yowzer! I had cleared out 5 baskets by the end of it! (I used two extra
         packages of clips -
on top of what came with the units.)THAT is a lot of organization for one item! Here
is what it looks like now.

So pretty and tidy and so easy to maintain (s0mething even a chronic tornado like
         me can keep it tidy!)

It is pretty full BUT. every. embellishment. I. own. is. on. there! It has a handle
at the top so you can move it around but since I crammed so much on there it was too
heavy for me to lift so my darling hubby came to the rescue. (If you only had one
tier it would easily be transportable 'cause you can purchase a cover to
         go over it.)

         Each clip can
hold more than one item. For each color I put alphas on one clip and
embellishments on another. (Some colors ended up with lots of clips.)

For items that I wanted to break up (so I could put them with their coordinating color)
I used small zipper lock baggies. (This is also a great way to save space if the original
         packaging is bulky.)

I love that I can hang all sorts of items together - I just put the smallest items
towards the outside of the clips so
         that I can see them.

It is pretty easy to flip through things - you just sort of swing it out. When I am
working I often pull off a clip of
certain color letters or embellishments that I think will work and move it to my work
area. It makes clean up pretty easy since all I need you need to do is clip everything
         back onto the clip and
hang it back up. It has made a major difference for me and my lazy ways. I
rarely seem to have this sort of stuff laying around, waiting to be cleaned up anymore
(and I am pretty sure the honeymoon period is over for me and my Clip
         It Up).

So here it is - my Clip
It Up in all it's glory. ;) Does it make you want to scrap? I know I do! Everything
is right there at my fingertips. Want to come over and give it a spin??? LOL

(I now have a clear glass table for my work space - this is why it appears that my Clip
         It Up is floating, lol.)

And to do some enabling - if you are interested - TwoPeas
is having a 25% off sale on Clip
It Ups until the 24th. *insert evil laugh here*

I hardly ever alter anything but I did this to challenge myself to get my mojo going
            - and boy did it work! Oh I grumbled and hmmm'd and haaaa'd but I pushed myself
and do you know what? I am really happy with it! It really took me out
of my comfort zone which got the creative juices flowing - and now I am looking around
the house for something new to alter, lol. Better tell my family to nail
everything down that they don't want altered!

I took pictures as I did it so I could share how I did it.

To start I decided that the red had to go. This is actually when the grumbling
started as I really love it's red color but I thought if I immediately took it out
of the picture then I would feel less restricted.

So out came my Studio paints and brushes -
            I mixed sky

of yellow to get a really yummy green.

Red gone, sigh. BUT with it gone I didn't get caught up it anymore. Best
to start out with a clean slate. Or a green slate in this case! LOL

Now the fun begins. Pretty-ing it up!

I decided to use a tissue paper technique to cover the surface with a print.
This means I get to use the above stamp which
is new and I have been dying to use on something.

Let's just take a moment to admire it's beauty...

Ahhh! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. It is a 6"x6" (yes
it is that big!) and features a vintage map of what looks like London, England.
You can see why I have been anxious to use this
            stamp on something! Gorgeous! :)

OK- back to the tissue paper. :)

I grabbed some light tan colored tissue paper (nothing special - from
my dollar store stash) along with Archival
Ink in Jet Black and stamped onto the tissue a few times. (some
spots bled a little but I am totally ok with this - it is tissue paper after all!)

Close to the center of the tissue I cut a hole for the magic black button that is
at the top of the machine.

            Then I tool my Studio
Multi-Medium in matte and "painted" the surface of my punch.

I then placed the tissue over the Multi-Medium,
letting it crinkle and fold a bit.

I ended up with something like this. Funny looking, isn't it?

I removed the extra tissue and then I painted a second coat of Multi-Medium over
the surface which causes the tissue to go sheer. I love this technique
because it allows the base color to show through and you get this neat effect with
wrinkles and the stamped image. (Different colors of tissue will
effect the final result as you do still see it in some spots.)

One thing to note is that when the tissue paper gets soaked through it becomes very
delicate and tears easily. If you do get a tear, it is pretty easy to patch
because the tissue goes mostly sheer when you add a piece and the wrinkled design
            hides everything.

Next I decided to add some subtle shimmer to it so I pulled out my Perfect
            Pearls.

Normally I would just mix some Perfect
Pearls with some water but since the surface of my punch was coated in Multi-Medium it
would have just beaded up as soon as I brushed it on. So I mixed some Heritage
Gold Perfect Pearls with some water and then added some Multi-Medium to
the mix. Looks pretty gross I know but once brushed on it dries clear and all
you can see is the shimmer of the Perfect
Pearls. (One thing to know - if you aren't adding Perfect
Pearls over the surface and you can see brush strokes on the last coat of Multi-Medium then
            try thinning some Multi-Medium with
some water and quickly brushing the entire surface again - this should help with the
            brush strokes)

It is hard to tell in the photo but it now has a dark golden shimmer to it with most
of the shimmer drying along the wrinkles, highlighting them perfectly.

I was then happy with the overall background of the punch so then I set to decorating
it. Everything was pretty straightforward - a punched cardstock border with
            my Effervescence
punch, a word sticker border made from a sheet of 7Gypsies
            stickers, some vinyl
Thickers for my initials and two small red
buttons for the marking of where the punch holes are.

Then I decided I wanted a "button" button. LOL I mean, I wanted to decorate
the black button on the top of the machine with a sewing button. This created
            a dilemma. The button I
wanted to use was larger than the black button - if I glued it directly to the black
button I would no longer be able to press it down to make the machine work.

This is how I solved the problem.

I have this new {to me} product call Scrap
Dots by Helmar. It is sort of a liquid version of foam squares. I
decided to raise the red button up with this product 'cause I felt that a foam square
was too thick in this situation.

I just squeeze a little glob on top of the black button and then gently placed my
flower/button combo on top. (You have to make sure you don't press
too hard so that you don't flatten it.)

What I like about the Scrap
Dots is that you can make them any thickness that you want (you
can let it dry and add another "glob" on top to build height) and it will dry
            exactly as you leave it.

Once it was dry I was still able to press down on the button to make the punch work
because of the little gap created.

And then I was done. :)

As I mentioned before - the little red
buttons replaced the arrows on the punch so that I can still see where the holes
            are going to end up.

Think you might try altering your punch now? I am telling you - altering is
totally addictive! I am looking at my Mini
Mister holder next...it just looks sooooo boring now! ;)

So go and look here to see
            all the altered Binderie

So out came my Studio paints and brushes -
         I mixed sky
         blue + dab
of yellow to get a really yummy green.

(You have to make sure you don't press too
hard so that you don't flatten it.)

What I like about the Scrap
Dots is that you can make them any thickness that you want (you can
let it dry and add another "glob" on top to build height) and it will dry exactly
         as you leave it.

Mister holder next...it just looks sooooo boring now! ;)

So go and look here to see
         all the altered Binderie
punches and vote for your favorite (you need to register at the site
to be able to vote but don't worry - it is easy and pain-free!)

I started on my Father's Day cards and I thought I would show you how I made the above
card - it has lots of great subtle details that add to it's overall look. It
is kind of hard to see them in the above photos but trust me - in real life this card
                     has a lot of wow-factor.

To start, I will show you how I made the background effect.

First, I ran some thin chipboard (about the thickness of a cereal box) through my Big
                     Shot with a Texturz
plate. It gave me this effect...

Love this - nice and subtle and perfect for the inky background I wanted to make.

This next technique is nothing new - a blended inky background. I have seen
it about a million times but until I attend Ranger
U 2 months ago I had never tried it. So it is new-to-me! :)

(maybe you haven't tried it yet either so I am going to show you how
I did it step by step)

                     First you need an ink
                     blending tool...

Or several like me. After Ranger U
I ran out and bought the above craft
spinner because it is so much easier to have one tool for every color group (definitely
read that as me being lazy). You don't need more than one tool - you
                     can change the
foam between colors (attached to tool with velcro) or
                     just use one foam for
a whole project - working with the lightest color to the darkest - and wash it after.

So you now see how it feels lazy to have one for every color group - but oh so
luxurious! I love, love this little spinning
holder - makes me grab these tools way more often as it sits on the corner
                     of my table.

OK. Back to the technique. :)

OK - let me make one last digression - here is a tip for you. Once you open
up your ink pads they kinda all look the same. To save myself some trouble,
I always tuck the lids underneath the pad while working and then when I go to
clean up I know which lid goes with which ink pad without thinking.

And NOW back to the inking/blending. :)

You want to pounce your blending
tool onto your ink pad - one or two "pounces" will do. Basically you are
transfering a little bit of ink to the foam so you can rub it onto your project.

To start - let me show you want you don't want to have happen.

Harsh lines on your project that show the shape of your tool. Here's how to
                     avoid that...:)

To start, you want to place your tool down next to your project and start moving
it towards the project with small circles (this lets the harsh lines
happen off your project). As you drag your tool from the edge of your
project towards the center if it (remember - always moving in small
circles) you will start to see the ink transfering. You need to keep
repeating the process to build up your color - you will get a feel for it once you
try it. And since you always go over the edge of your project first and move
towards the center, more of the ink will transfer on the outer edge causing it to
                     look shaded/blended.

(Note: more layers of ink will result in darker effect - for
a lighter effect use less layers of ink)

You can work with just one color or lots of different ones - blending them together
                     with the tool.

(It really is very easy to get the blended effect - one practice session
and you will be a pro!)

Here is how my embossed chipboard looked as I built up my colors...

The above photos is what is looks like up close - it shows how wonderfully the
colors just blend into each other - with the raised/embossed parts picking up
more of the ink. (I ran a blending tool loaded with Walnut
Stain over the entire surface once I was finished so all the dots would have a
                     dark color to them.)

Then I ran a sanding block over some spots to break up how uniform it looked.

I liked this background but I decided to add some stamping over it to give it a finished
                     look.

                     Used my favorite handwritten
text stamp from Hero Arts and matched it with some pigment ink in Snow
Cap (this is nice bright white).

Look at what a gorgeous impression it gave...

Ahhh, sigh. I love how crisp the image is.

Next, I add this inky background piece to a card base I made from some folded kraft cardstock.

                     Then I decorated it.

Then... I decided that the chipboard letters I had alreadyglued down
to the card were too "plain". LOL

So what to do? Stamp 'em of course!

                     Got out my grid
stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms that I absolutely adore and some dye based ink

Inked up the stamp and gently pressed it onto my letters. (I had to
be careful that I didn't accidently stamp my background.)

I LOVE how this little touch looks - seems absolutely perfect to me.

I have another one to show you - but I am not quite finished it - maybe tomorrow.
                     :)

                  I have my blending
tools and my Distress Ink - Vintage
                  Photo, Peeled
                  Paint, Spiced
                  Marmalade & Walnut
                  Stain.

As you drag your tool from the edge of your
project towards the center if it (remember - always moving in small circles) you
will start to see the ink transfering. You need to keep repeating the process
to build up your color - you will get a feel for it once you try it. And since
you always go over the edge of your project first and move towards the center, more
of the ink will transfer on the outer edge causing it to look shaded/blended.

(Note: more layers of ink will result in darker effect - for a
lighter effect use less layers of ink)

Then... I decided that the chipboard letters I had already glued down
to the card were too "plain". LOL

So what to do? Stamp 'em of course!

                  Got out my grid
stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms that I absolutely adore and some dye based ink
                  by Ranger in Lettuce.
Inked up the stamp and gently pressed it onto my letters. (I had to be
careful that I didn't accidently stamp my background.)

I LOVE how this little touch looks - seems absolutely perfect to me.

I have another one to show you - but I am not quite finished it - maybe tomorrow.
                  :)

(other items used on the card - chipboard letters by Kurio/K&Co,
journaling circle - Heidi Swapp, orange label & chipboard circle - Scenic Route,
                  green label - Fontwerks)

toolfrom 7Gypsies - I have to admit that when I first saw it I thought...who
needs a new two hole punch? I mean, I have about a million single hole punches
that I can just use to, well, punch two holes with.

That was until I pressed it's magic little black button.

(It's kind of hard to see the magic black button in the above photo
but it is there at the top.)

So what's so magical about this button?

Well, when you press it, it punches through THICKchipboard
like butter! (goes through chipboard much thicker then the stuff
         I am showing here)

(But the best part is the whirring sound it makes - it is battery operated so
it makes the best soft whir as it drills through your item. I am not the only
one who loves this sound - Magnus loves to run into my craft room and give it a press
so he can hear it too!)

OK. So I know what you thinking...Great! It punched two holes through thick chipboard...WHY
is she rambling on about it...

See that arrow in the above photo? That little black "knob" is why I am rambling
on about it. Basically you take the first hole you punched and hook it onto
that little black "knob". (I have no idea what to call it - it
is just a little piece that that sticks up from the side of the machine. :)
It is probably officially call it a thing-a-ma-gig!) This is the little piece
that makes this tool extra awesome - beside it's way with punching chipboard
like butter!. With the chipboard piece hooked onto the thing-a-ma-gig you press
that heavenly little black button again. Whirrrrrrr....:)

You get this. Four perfectly spaced holes. Pretty good right? It
probably took me 5.2 seconds to get this. Definitely way easier than using a
         single punch.

         But OH...LOOK....

That thing-a-ma-gig slides out and clicks into place....press that magical little
         magic button....whirrr...

         And repeat....:)

Ahhhh! A whole line of even space holes all ready for to be made into a
mini album! This whole line of holes I am pretty sure took 9.4 seconds to make (not
that I timed it or anything, lol, I'm just sayin'!)

I love it so much that I have found an easy to reach spot for it in my craft room.

I have tucked it right next to my printer that it sits on the window ledge next to
my work table. So easy to grab whenever I want to make a mini album (and
so easy for Magnus to come and press and make his own line of evenly
space holes, lol)! Oh, just think of all the things you can make into
         mini albums!!!

And since my scrapping groove has been lagging lately due to extreme tiredness (but
I am well rested now!) I have decided to kick-start my creativity with a challenge.
Got to love a challenge to get those creative juices flowing!

I am going to work on thischallenge
