With recreational marijuana so new to Las Vegas, there’s a bunch to know about the laws relating to cannabis and driving. Here’s a quick legal snapshot to bring you up to speed.

Can I Drive High?

Unless you’re Paris Hilton or Khloe Kardashian you probably have enough common sense to know not to drive under the influence of any mind altering substance. But, they don’t call Las Vegas the city of sin for nothing, so for those of you who like to test your fate, we want you to know what you’re up against. First off, you could kill somebody or you could kill yourself. Don’t take that risk. Make smart decisions. You cannot drive stoned, period. If you are caught driving under the influence you will get a DUI, a hefty fine (up to $1000 plus court costs), a suspended license and possible jail time.

Can I Drive With Cannabis In the Car?

Under Nevada law, you can drive with up to one ounce of marijuana or up to ⅛ of an ounce of concentrates.

Can I bring Marijuana Across State Lines?

If you have left over weed from your Vegas vacation or you’re simply travelling out of state and want to bring some good bud with you, think again. Under Nevada state law you are prohibited from bringing flower, concentrates and edibles across state lines. Even if marijuana is legal in both states, driving across state line is where the law comes into play and makes it a federal crime. You could end up with drug trafficking charges, five or more years in federal prison and a fine up to a million dollars.

Since we’re very experienced in this category, we decided to share our Top 5 Smoker Friendly Activities. If you’re an indica smoker that prefers to chill poolside and hit up a lunchtime buffet, do you. That will allow for a super chill day and we can’t hate on that. This list is geared towards stoners who like to get high and go out and do things, if that’s you, here we go.

For those of you who haven’t heard of the High Roller it’s a giant ferris wheel made up of 28 glass pods (holding 40 passengers per pod) giving you the absolute best view Las Vegas has to offer. As of right now it’s the tallest ferris wheel in the world measuring 550’ tall. Each ride lasts 30 minutes, allowing you to make one full rotation before the ride is over. The pricing is a bit high at $24.95 for a daytime ride and $34.95 for a night time ride, but every time we look there’s usually a groupon or discount of some sort available online. The High Roller is located on the Las Vegas Strip, giving you a great opportunity to walk around and take it all in. If riding the world’s tallest ferris wheel is on your bucket list, go for it. And when you’re done, don’t forget to stop by the Bellagio fountains.

2) Cirque Du Soleil
https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/

The sounds, colors, music and acrobatics will keep you mesmerized for hours and there’s even a concession stand where you can purchase various snacks to satisfy your munchies. Choose from The Beatles LOVE (at The Mirage), O (at the Bellagio), Mystere (at Treasure Island), Michael Jackson One (at the Aria), Zumanity (at New York New York), or Cris Angel’s Mindfreak (at Luxor). This is just one of the Lockdown experiences offered at the Las Vegas Lockdown Room. With three locations around Las Vegas, you’ll have the opportunity to find clues, solve riddles and crack the case before the clock runs out. Real life can be so stressful, why not get high and spend $35 to escape reality and play make believe for a while?

You’re over 21 and ready to try recreational cannabis for the first time. You don’t know what to expect and you’re slightly scared and excited all at the same time. So many questions are running through your head but you have nobody to turn to because you don’t want to seem inexperienced or uncool. Well our advice is that “the expert of everything was once a beginner”, so with the right guidance and proper information, you’ll do just fine. Plus, with us guiding you through this major moment in your life, you have nothing to worry about, trust us and repeat “I’m going to get high for the very first time and it’s going to be awesome.” Oh and don’t forget to take a selfie, it’s 20 freakin 17, weed is legal and the sun is shining, life is good.

How Much Do I Smoke For the First Time?

It’s important to understand that everybody has a different tolerance to cannabis. Remember, it’s a mind altering substance so you definitely won’t want to play puff-puff-pass during your first time and risk having a panic attack or greening out. We recommend taking one puff of a joint and waiting about 20 minutes to see how it affects you. If you don’t feel like you’re in a euphoric dream-like state yet, you can take a few more hits and wait. The only person who will know when you’re comfortably high is you so take it slow and let the trial and error begin.

What Should I Smoke?

Each strain of marijuana is made up of CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in different amounts that stimulate the feeling and strength of your high. CBD’s are a psychoactive compound that make you feel calm and relaxed and are typically used for pain relief, anxiety, and as an anti-inflammatory. THC is more psychological and is what many people would attribute the high you feel when consuming cannabis to. For first timers, it’s a good idea to pay attention to how much THC verses CBD is in each strain while you’re shopping. Opt for a strain that highlights a high percentage of CBD to slightly ease into your first experience. You’ll also want to pay attention to terpenes which are organic compounds that affect the aroma and flavor of your weed and each type offers different medical and psychological benefits.

We recommend keeping a strain diary as you continue to taste test so that you can keep record of the THC, CBD and Terpenes variations that work best for you.

There are three strains to choose from. Indica, Sativa and a Hybrid.

Indica strains tend to make you feel calm- almost sedated, and offer more of a full body high. If you’re looking to Netflix and chill, eat some snacks and take a nap, indica is perfect for you.

Sativa strains offer the complete opposite affect and are great for a daytime high. They promote a happy euphoric feeling, boost your creativity and are more of an uplifting head high. If you’re planning to get high and do something fun you’ll want to go with a sativa or sativa dominant strain.

Hybrid strains, just like it sounds, is a mash up of both indica and sativa for those of you looking for a combination high. Explain the high you’re looking to achieve and your budtender can recommend a nice hybrid to get the job done.

What Should I Do If I Get Too High?

Take a deep breathe and definitely DO NOT CALL YOUR MOM. We all get too high sometimes and trust us, it’s no biggie. The good news is that nobody has died from marijuana overdose and you likely won’t be the one to change that stat. If you feel like you’re on the verge of a panic attack just eat a snack, go watch a movie or lay down and take a power nap. Your high will continue to be less intense as each minute passes so understand that this will all be over soon and you’ll be fine. Remember that time you drank way too much and thought you needed to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning but then you just ate some toast and slept it off? It’s the same idea here. Go with the high and try to enjoy yourself.

Should I Mix Marijuana and Alcohol?

We don’t recommend mixing the two substances. It will intensify the effects of both and could very well lead to a bad experience. You can green-out which causes you to be in a panic like state where you’re nauseous, dizzy and sweaty (and who the hell wants to deal with that ,talk about a night ruiner). Combining the two may also cause extreme paranoia among other side effects so stick to one vice at a time. Don’t be a dummy, consume responsibility.

With states continuing to jump on the recreational marijuana bandwagon, you may be wondering what the difference between medical and recreational cannabis is. Let us explain. Spark a joint, light a dab and cue the reggae music, it’s time to get educated with our guide to what the F is going on: The Rec Versus Medical Edition.

Do Medical Patients and Rec Users Have Access to the Same Bud and Concentrates?

One may think that budtenders store the good stuff for medical patients in a special golden treasure chest out back, but that’s simply not the case at all. Everyone has the right to the very best cannabis this great country has to offer. The industry doesn’t hate and it definitely doesn’t discriminate. Nothing is different between the products offered, everything is grade “A” flower, edibles, and concentrates and the potency of the products don’t differ whether you’re a medical patient or recreational user.

Do Purchase Limits Differ for Medical Versus Recreational?

There’s a lot of misconceptions on this one so we’re glad to finally clear it up. The answer is that everyone can purchase up to an ounce of flower or ⅛ ounce of concentrates (oil, wax, shatter) per day. It doesn’t make a difference if you medicate or just want to get lifted, you have the exact same daily restrictions. There’s currently no official system that keeps track between dispensaries in regards to how much cannabis you purchase per day, so technically (if you wanted to) you could go to every dispensary and purchase up to an ounce and nobody would stop you. But remember, you can only carry what the law states, so if you plan to go from shop to shop, make sure that you don’t have more than the max amount permitted in your possession or you’ll risk jail time.

Are There Separate Lines at Dispensaries For Medical Patients?

This depends on the dispensary. Many dispensaries have two lines at check in to differentiate between medical and recreational customers. These practices help the check-in process flow smoother, and help the intake staff to keep record of medical cards and any other documentation that they need to process to keep medical files up- to-date and compliant.

What’s the Deal With Taxes?

One thing that definitely differs are the tax rates. 32% of what rec users pay will include taxes with a large portion of that going to the city’s Rainy Day Fund. A lot of the recreational taxes are built into the retail price (such as the 15% cultivation tax), so you won’t notice it all outlined on your receipt. What you will see on your receipt for rec users is 18.25% taxes and for medical users it will be 8.25% taxes. Although a 10% difference may seem harsh at first glance, remember that some people require medical cannabis for serious illnesses and medical conditions in order to improve the quality of their lives due to pain and discomfort, cancer, epilepsy, PTSD and for many other reasons. If you think about it, the high tax rates aren’t so bad and they’ll be helping Las Vegas improve the community—-and if it bothers you so much just light up a fattie and allow the stress to melt away because it’s finally legal to do that and that’s a big step in right direction.

Do the Age Restrictions Differ?

In the state of Nevada, there is no age limit to obtain a medical marijuana card pending you are diagnosed with an approved debilitating or chronic condition by your doctor. If you happen to be under the age of 21, your designated primary caregiver will need to be established and you will need to have a “minor release” signed as part of the process to obtain your medical card. If you are a rec user, you must present a valid government ID showing that you are at least 21 years old in order to purchase from a dispensary.

You blazed, and now, guess what (it’s inevitable), you caught a case of the munchies. “But I’m too high and lazy to move, I’ll probably just eat some chips and reese’s and take a nap”

If that comes out of your mouth, then we can’t be friends. You MUST take advantage of this rare opportunity. You have the munchies in one of the most delicious food capitals in the world! Congratulations grasshopper, you’re about to embark on a journey through flavortown.

Our inner foodie helped us prep a list of the top 5 best munchie spots in beautiful Sin City. You’re welcome in advance.

1. The Peppermill

2985 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109
peppermilllasvegas.com

You may recognize this place from Casino starring Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone, but it isn’t the glamour that makes this classic Vegas diner so epic. It’s the old school Vegas vibe, neon lights, friendly service, creative cocktails and outstanding diner grub that makes The Peppermill a MUST for local stoners and tourists alike.

The restaurant serves up a hefty menu ranging from basics like chicken wings and mozzarella sticks, to a flavorful Pineapple Express Burger and popular Roast Beef Sandwich. In the mood for breakfast 24 hours a day? The Peppermill has you covered. Menu prices range from $9.95 and up, and the portions are so large you could easily make one entrè a dinner for two.

The Peppermill Fireside Lounge (conveniently attached to the main restaurant) features a chill ambiance that evokes 80s Vegas nostalgia. Think kicked back vibe, Gin martini and 80’s classic music videos. Oh yeah. The lounge is famous for it’s fire pit that sits over water – so if you have the opportunity to snag a spot by the pit, grab it!

Happy Hour: Everyday from 3pm-6pm and 9pm-11pm offering cheap eats and cocktails starting at $3.50 and up.

2. El Dorado Cantina

3025 Sammy Davis Jr Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89109
http://eldoradovegas.com/

If you love burritos as much as you love a good lap dance, we found your nirvana. At first glance this spot may scare some away given the massive strip club it is attached to (Sapphire, that is). Don’t judge a book by it’s cover or you’ll surely be missing out. El Dorado Cantina offers authentic mexican cuisine with healthy high quality ingredients (we’re talking non-GMO, all organic, the best of the best).

And who doesn’t love to get high and enjoy a taco or seven? The menu offers all the typicals you’ll find at a Mexican eatery like taquitos, nachos, quesadillas, table side guac, Mexican corn on the cob, salads and so much more. It won’t break the bank either, with meals starting at $10 and a strong happy hour twice a day. Once your dry mouth sets in, you absolutely need to have one of their made-from-scratch cocktails. Everything from the house made margaritas to the sangria is made from scratch, and all without that basic b**** sweet and sour or artificial flavors.

Conveniently located just off the strip and open 24 hours, El Dorado Cantina is a great place to indulge – whether you’re looking for a strip tease and a taquito or just a chill spot to catch up with friends. Stoner approved.

Happy Hour: Every day 4pm-6pm and 12am-2am offering $7 appetisers, 50% off well drinks, $5 domestic beers and $7 house margaritas.

3. In-N-Out

If we didn’t include In-N-Out in our stoners guide to the best munchies, we would fire ourselves. In-N-Out has been a stoners staple since it opened in 1948. Offering an simple yet perfected menu that includes burgers, fries and shakes, we can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to go here at least once a week. You can dine in or drive-thru (or kindly ask your uber driver to drive-thru), and most of the ten locations around Vegas are open until 1am. If you’re not familiar with the term “animal style”, then get ready to be mind-blown. Animal Style is In-N-Out code for having your burger or fries drenched in signature sauce, cheese and grilled onions. For those carb-conscious stoners out there, they even offer a protein burger which substitutes the bun for lettuce. Booya.

All in all, you can’t go wrong here considering you’ll leave feeling well-fed for $10 or less.

4. Born and Raised

Three locations:

-7260 S Cimarron Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89113 (open 24/7)

-10050 S Eastern ave, Henderson NV, 89052 (open 24/7)

-3641 Las Vegas Blvd S (In the Grand Bazaar Shops) Las Vegas, NV 89109

Bornandraisedlv.com

If you haven’t heard of this place yet, well friends, today you hit the munchie jackpot. This local eatery was created by locals and promotes a laid back atmosphere with trendy decor and giant photos from the movie Fear and Loathing on the walls. They offer up a ton of shareable appetizers ranging from beef and chicken sliders to zucchini fries with chipotle sauce, fruity pebble french toast, deep fried oreo cookies, pretzel bites and award winning wings. If you’re into sports betting, this bar is right up your alley with huge flat screens playing every game you can imagine; you’ll definitely be entertained.

If you’re the type to get high and have a case of the never ending munchies, you’re in luck! Born and Raised has a famous food challenge called The Bar Gamble and this challenge was built to be beat by a stoner. The Gamble consists of eating 15 sliders (of your choice) with a pound of signature anchor fries smothered in hot buffalo sauce and bleu cheese dressing. To win the title, which includes a free t-shirt and the meal being comped, you must eat everything in an hour or less. Fail and you’re left with a whooping $75 bill. Sixty people tried The Gamble with only seven people overcoming the challenge. Are you number 8?

Born and Raised has three locations around Vegas so no matter what side of town you’re on, whether locally or staying on the strip, they’ve got you covered.

Happy Hour: Mon-Fri 3pm-6pm. $3-$4 drafts, $4 well drinks and plenty of $5 appetisers to choose from.

5. Cornish Pasty

10 E Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas NV, 89104
cornishpastyco.com

Pizza pockets are a major food group in stonerville, there’s no denying that. Picture a gourmet pizza pocket with a warm flaky crust and hundreds of different filling combinations – that’s a Pasty! With 4.5 stars and over 600 reviews on Yelp, Cornish Pasty sets the bar high when it comes to savory munchies. The originated in Britain in the 1900’s when miners wives would bake Pasties (one side sweet and the other savory) for their husbands working long shifts and in need of a convenient but tasty lunch. The Cornish Pasty offers all different types of pasties from their most memorable on the menu: “The Oggie” stuffed with steak, potatoes, onion and rutabaga (with red wine gravy on the side); the Meatball stuffed with homemade meatballs, marinara, fresh mozzarella and basil; or the classic Chicken Pot Pie pasty. They even offer over twelve vegetarian options for all those plant eaters out there.

The Cornish Pasty doesn’t play when it comes to sides. Their creative side dishes include meatballs wrapped in bacon (it’s a real thing people), broccoli and cauliflower cheese bake, and hand cut oven baked chips served with garlic or jalapeno aioli (omg). Side dishes range from $2.50 – $4.25 and the pasties average $10 a pop.

The interior gives off a vintage rustic vibe with an open ceiling revealing wood paneling, exposed piping, and faded brick. They also have some sweet games to keep you entertained while waiting for your food, including two pools tables and a bar top shuffleboard game. With a prime location in Downtown Las Vegas’ Arts District, the Cornish Pasty deservedly takes a spot on our Sin City munchie list.

Happy Hour: Everyday from 3pm-6pm and all day on Sunday’s. $1 off drafts and cocktails—no food specials.

Unless you have been trapped in a cave with no wifi (#nightmare), you have probably heard that Nevada recently became the eighth state in the U.S. to legalize recreational marijuana use. Now before you roll up a fattie while getting a lap dance, there are some laws you should be aware of if you want to stay out of hand-cuffs. Yes, you can walk into a dispensary, grab some tasty flower, edibles or concentrates and have a jolly ol’ time, but where can and can’t you consume cannabis in Las Vegas by law? Well canna lovers, we’re here to answer that.

The challenge here is that by law, you basically can’t smoke anywhere except private residences. You can smoke on your patio or porch as well but not on the sidewalks or streets. So if you’re an out-of-towner, hopefully you know somebody who knows somebody who lives here because it’s illegal to light up on the Las Vegas Strip, in a car, in a bar, in da club, in a casino, restaurant or strip joint. You can’t consume cannabis in a taxi, uber, hotel room or even at the dispensary where you purchased your goods. You heard that right, it’s a pretty frustrating situation, but don’t you fret, as Bob Marley sang “Every little thing, is gonna be alright,” and it will.

So now WTF do you do if you don’t live in Las Vegas but still want to smoke that dank Purple OG Kush you just legally purchased from The Dispensary? If you’re one of the 45 million tourists that visit Las Vegas annually your best bet is discreet consumption. Although all forms of consumption are illegal in public, edibles and vape pens offer much more discretion than bong rips and blunts. However you choose to get high, keep in mind that if you get caught consuming in public, you can receive a fine of up to $600.

The good news? In the near future (so soon we promise), weed enthusiasts and stoners will prevail. Although Senate Bill 236 that allowed the local government to permit marijuana social clubs died, there’s still hope. With dozens of marijuana lounges, dispensary crawls and smoker friendly coffee shops in the works, Las Vegas will soon be a ganja paradise.

So for now, we recommend you don’t light up a joint on the strip with the “F*** IT, IT’S VEGAS!” mentality, because you could quickly find yourself $600 in the red. Be discreet. Be patient. And soon we shall roll fatties while getting lap dances without the worry of legal ________.
