<p>While experts stop short of laying the blame completely at the feet of soda makers, most acknowledge that people in general, and kids specifically, consume too many soft drinks.</p>
<p>In an effort to curb the problem, some school districts are removing soda machines from school campuses -; and, some say, for good reason. One 12-ounce can of soda has 150 calories; a 20-ounce can has 250 calories.</p>
<p>According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, &#8220;Carbonated soft drinks are the single biggest source of calories in the American diet, providing about 7 percent of calories.&#8221; Non-carbonated drinks (such as fruit juice and iced teas) push that figure to 9 percent.</p>
<p>One study of 548 sixth and seventh-graders in Boston showed that each 12-ounce can of soda consumed increased their risk for becoming overweight by 60 percent, according to an article in the Journal of Pediatrics.</p>
<p>Besides having a high-sugar content &#8211; which can contribute to weight gain and promote tooth decay &#8211; there is little nutritional value in a can of soda, just empty calories.<br />

The answer to that question is easy, go look in your cupboards. Our forefathers ate a lot better than we do. High processed, homogenized, pasteurized, canned and prepackaged fast food means less chance of natural occurring vitamins surviving for any length of time.</p>
<p>While some of us pick our own fruit and grow our own vegetables, most of the country chooses to rely on packaged, store bought fruits and veggies. These aren&#8217;t as healthy as they look, either. The longer the apples and tomatoes are off the vine, the faster they begin to lose their nutritional value, losing vitamins during processing and shipping.</p>
<p>Your body needs vitamins to boost your immune system, ward off colds and other viruses, and even keep you even tempered, so to speak. Did you know with a vitamin deficiency that you are less likely to clot when you cut yourself? Vitamins play a much bigger part then we think, and the average diet does not include all the vitamins necessary to keep the body in top shape.</p>
<p>A good multi-vitamin is your best choice, but here again you can be misled into believing that 100% of the USDA recommended dosage is good enough. They mean 100% total, not 100% of each vitamin necessary. Think about it, they can&#8217;t possibly pack the right amount of every kind of vitamin that you need into one pill a day, and most multi vitamins sold in your local grocery store are cut with fillers and preservatives. Nope, you&#8217;ll have to visit your local food co op and get some natural, all inclusive vitamin supplements. Along with eating well, these supplements contain everything you need for balanced vitamin intake, with none of the fillers and preservatives that I, for one, resent paying for.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s talk B vitamins as an example. You need several different kinds of B vitamins alone. B6 and B12 are just two, but the most commonly talked about. Vitamin B6 promotes the development of red blood cells, and 12 helps promote energy and fights Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. You need these and other vitamins to be in the purest form possible in order to be the most beneficial. Let&#8217;s skip back for a moment, the history of vitamins, if you will. Vitamins began being &#8220;discovered&#8221; by scientists and surgeons around 1914, and the word &#8220;vitamin &#8221; comes from the word &#8220;vital&#8221; as in vital energy for life, but as far back as the 1600&#8217;s sailors knew to eat citrus fruits to prevent scurvy. It wasn&#8217;t until later that they knew it as vitamin C.<br />

Now we will skip forward to the future. Many vitamins are now available as liquids. Remember cod liver oil? Well now most vitamins can be taken from a spoon rather than choked down (although if you were one of the kids forced to down cod liver oil, you were choking anyway), what&#8217;s more, they taste good now as well.</p>
<p>Now before you get all excited and run out to stock up on each vitamin that you are deficient in, let me remind you that you can, in fact, &#8216;overdose&#8217; on vitamins, kind of. The water soluble vitamins such as B&#8217;s and C&#8217;s will simply be expressed through your urine if you&#8217;ve taken in more than your body needs, but fat soluble vitamins such as D and E can accumulate and cause problems such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and rash.</p>
<p>I recommend contacting a homeopath to test for vitamin deficiencies before you run out and spend a lot on vitamins. Knowing exactly what you need the most and in what daily dosage will save you some money, because again, you really need to purchase each vitamin separately, rather than in a multi-vitamin pill.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Biotin plays a significant part in the prevention of hair loss. Most nutritionists agree that biotin is one of the important vitamins for supporting hair growth. It is also commonly advised to take biotin to supplement medical treatments such Minoxidil or Propecia.</p>
<p>A deficiency of biotin may cause hair to become frail and unhealthy, and hair breakage, which may result in hair loss. Biotin also keeps your skin and nails healthy as well as being an important element of new hair growth.<br />
Supplements are sometimes needed to return biotin levels to normal, but it is recommended to include biotin regularly in your diet. Two foods containing good quantities of biotin are liver and egg yolks. You would have to eat thousands of calories worth daily to get enough for your hair needs, which is why I would also suggest biotin supplements.</p>
<p>Foods full of biotin include brewer&#8217;s yeast, green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, green peas, bulgur and brown rice. In terms of the egg yolks, your body&#8217;s ability to digest and assimilate biotin decreases with high intake levels of protein. Biotin binds easily to proteins, making it unavailable to your body, which in turn causes biotin deficiency and hair loss.  Try to steer clear of raw eggs in your diet, and cut down on protein powders and bars. Use one of the many shampoos that contain biotin and silica.<br />

Additionally, those with type A blood don&#8217;t have the ability to fully absorb B vitamins. Biotin is classified as a Vitamin B, so if you have Type A blood, adding higher doses of 5-8 grams twice daily will be needed to help prevent hair loss. At this time, there are no known side effects at this dosage level.</p>
<p>People suffering from heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD and who are taking antacids may absorb biotin less and hair loss may occur as a result. Therefore watch your use of over-the-counter antacids if you are worried about hair loss.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A home gym can help you build an incredible looking body, skyrocket your metabolism and shave years off your age.</p>
<p>If you choose wisely, you&#8217;ll have all the tools you need to accomplish these goals (and more). But not everyone knows where to start or how to get the most from a home gym.</p>
<p>When clients ask me about buying home gym equipment, here are 5 things I tell them to get the most from their purchase:</p>
<p>1) Buy a well rounded piece of equipment:</p>
<p>Unless you have hundreds of square feet in your home to dedicate to multiple pieces of equipment, you should look for a home gym that covers all the major exercises (including the ones you don&#8217;t like), such as chest, back, legs (hamstrings &amp; quadriceps), shoulders, biceps and triceps.</p>
<p>2) Make sure your home gym is stable:</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a saying, &#8216;You get what you pay for.&#8217; Most of the inexpensive home gyms you buy from a local department store have very narrow bases, so they tend to rock. Stay away from home gyms that do not have a good stable base.</p>
<p>For a basic rule of thumb, look at home gyms that are more &#8217;square&#8217; or &#8216;as high as they are wide&#8217;. As an example, you won&#8217;t want a home gym that 10ft high x 2 ft wide x 2 ft deep, unless you are going to anchor it to a concrete floor.</p>
<p>3) Put your home gym in a place you will use it:</p>
<p>If you leave your home gym in a room you normally don&#8217;t go into to, odds are high that you aren&#8217;t going to use it. The more inviting the room where you place your equipment, the more likely you will use it (how many of us really want to work out in a dungeon?).</p>
<p>If there&#8217;s only one place you can place your home gym, then work on the room. Maybe add a coat of paint or put up pictures that inspire you. Add a stereo system or a wall mounted television. By making the room inviting and inspiring, you&#8217;ll ensure that workouts will be enjoyable.<br />

4) Make a simple &amp; short workout routine:</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t go making or using &#8216;Mr. Or Ms. Olympia&#8217; home gym workouts. That&#8217;s the first big mistake that people make when they first get their equipment. Instead, start by making a workout that is only 30 to 45 minutes long. That&#8217;s less than a 1 hour TV show.</p>
<p>Do this workout 3 to 5 days a week. Remember to work all your muscles (not just the ones you like) for optimum results. It helps to keep a record of your workouts on paper so you can see just how far you&#8217;ve come.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re stuck on what to do, don&#8217;t worry. Many home gyms come with beginner workouts. But again, don&#8217;t go all out and kill yourself the first few workouts &#8211; start from where you are and build on it. Consistency is key for a killer body.</p>
<p>5) Write your workout days on the calendar:</p>
<p>Like any important appointment, make an appointment with your home gym. You need to make the effort to put yourself, your body and your health first &#8211; especially at the beginning stages. Experts tell us it takes 3 to 6 weeks before actions become habit. Once you&#8217;ve built the habit of working out, it will get easier.</p>
<p>To help you stick to your exercise appointment, get loved ones to encourage you and make you accountable. Once you get past the 8-week mark, you&#8217;ll feel (and look) so great you&#8217;ll wonder why you didn&#8217;t get a home gym sooner.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Now I am not sure about you, but I find it so hard to diet and to lose weight. The weight loss programs and diets that I have tried are just so boring. They are also very hard to implement as they are asking me to give up foods which I know that I will not be able to. What we need is a weight loss program which is actually fun to implement.</p>
<p>My name is Steve Hill. My own weight problems began when my parents decided to turn vegetarian. I was eleven years of age at the time and basically decided to give it a go as well. My mum cooked the meals you see.</p>
<p>This was twenty-one years ago, at this point there were not many different options of food for people who were vegetarians. I was not at all impressed with the food I was given and missed eating meat in a big way. I would normally be hungry after meals and would then start to eat snack type foods. I only gradually put on more weight and people did not really comment for a couple of years.</p>
<p>As soon as people did notice, it was like a vicious circle. They would taunt me at school, I would come home all depressed and would then comfort eat, to make myself feel better.</p>
<p>A few years ago I went about looking for ways to help me to lose weight. I tried many diets but without success. I have to say it was not that anything was wrong with the actual diet, it was that, that particular diet did not suit me.<br />

I am the type of person who needs to enjoy something to keep my interest in it. This is why I found school a struggle. Well that is my excuse anyway.</p>
<p>The Fun Way To Lose Weight</p>
<p>On a Saturday night a few years ago, I went out for a few beers with a good friend of mine (Dave). We were having a good chat during which I told him about my mission to lose weight. I explained about how as yet, I had not found a suitable weight loss program.</p>
<p>Dave suggested that I should take up a sport, something competitive which I could get my teeth into. I thought about what he had said and agreed that this could be the way to go.</p>
<p>I asked him if he would like a game of tennis three or four times a week. Dave stated that this might be a bit much as he played six a side football twice a week.</p>
<p>He did not want to let me down however, and then asked if I would like to join his six a side team. I will give it a go, I replied.</p>
<p>I came home rather drunk, but also rather pleased with myself. I now had a weight loss plan which I was sure would work. There will be no quick fix, however this amount of exercise, over a sustained period of time, must have a positive affect on my weight, my fitness and my health.</p>
<p>With this program, I am also able to basically eat what I want, when I want.</p>
<p>It did take quite a while as I had predicted, to reach a weight I was happy with. This was not a problem however, as I was having fun on the way.</p>
<p>I continue to play not only tennis and football, but many sports. This is no longer to lose weight but because I enjoy it.</p>

Unfortunately, most people believe that creatine helps build muscle and it does in a way, but probably not the way you are thinking. The best way to describe creatine is to say that it helps the muscles help themselves build muscle. If that is not clear enough, continue reading.</p>
<p>Creatine does exactly what it claims to do and that is to retain water in your muscles. This is the point of creatine and it really is effective at keeping water in the muscles. Now, what happens is when your muscles are retaining water they are in an optimal state for building new muscle. As a result, when you take creatine and water is retained in your muscles then when you weight train you will get more of an effect because your muscles are better capable of building muscle. After this period you may develop more strength and increased endurance as well. So, if you are taking creatine to help you build muscle and you understand what creatine does and how it helps you build muscle then you will not be disappointed. On the other hand, if you are taking creatine and hoping it will simply grow you bodybuilder’s muscles without putting in the work then you are mistaken.<br />

The best thing to do is begin taking creatine and working out with weights on a regular routine or even with a trainer. By taking the creatine your muscles will be poised to grow and get stronger while building endurance. However, keep in mind you have to put in all the hard work and that all creatine does for you is helps your muscles retain water in order to be in a state where building muscle is easier. Over time you will see your muscles growing and should not see any loss of definition because of the retained water in your muscles. Don’t become confused about creatine building big muscles; it just helps your muscles build themselves stronger and better when you put in the work.</p>
