If Your Smell Is Neutral: If your natural scent is neutral you are a very lucky person when it comes to finding the best perfume for yourself. If Your Smell Is Sweet: If you smell buttery, milky or powdery your smell is sweet. You should stay away from any perfumes that also smell sweet because it will just become overpowering. Try perfumes that smell like flowers, but keep it light.

If Your Smell Is Floral: If you smell like a bouquet of flowers maybe you do not need perfume! I’m kidding, of course. Go for the citrus smelling perfumes because they will compliment your smell the best.

If Your Smell Is Smoky: If you smell a bit like wood that has been burnt you will want to go for perfumes that smell musky and a bit like incense. Amber would be a great smelling perfume for you.

If Your Smell Is Fresh: If your smell is like that of celery or freshly cut lettuce you will want to find perfumes that are sweet smelling with little hints of vanilla in them. They will compliment your smell perfectly.

If you need help figuring out your own body’s natural scent you could ask a very close friend or your spouse. You need to find someone that will be completely honest with you, though. Otherwise you will be wasting your money on a certain type of perfume that could actually make you smell worse. We all have our own natural body scents, but since we are in these bodies we do not usually know what our real scent is. That is why it is vital you ask someone else. If you are too shy to ask someone close to you or just do not want to, go to your local perfume counter and pull a nice, helpful employee aside. Take note, when you buy a perfume bottle most of the cost goes to the packaging, advertising, sales profit and tax. Only a small percentage, actually around ten percent, is dedicated to the costs of the scents.

So why buy when you can make your own perfume. Not only will you be able to save some money but you'll get a blast from the pursuit of the perfect perfume.

One of the greatest advantages of making your own perfume is that you don't have to worry about having chemicals and preservatives going onto your skin. Since you're more likely going to work with natural, you don't have to worry about the possible effects of synthetic materials on your body.

However, care should still be taken when using various essential oils. Some people might still have particular allergenic reactions to specific types of oils. It is therefore important to know or be familiar with your own body chemistry first before trying experimenting with blending perfumes.

First, let's differentiate between the various types of perfumes. Basically, a perfume is a mixture of aromatic compounds and diluted in alcohol and water. The amounts of aromatic oils dissolve in a blend determine if it can be called a perfume or a cologne. Arranged from highest concentration of oils to lowest the sequence would be: perfume, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne and body splash.

When we say perfume, the blend of aromatic oils is from 25 to 40%. Eau du parfum, meanwhile, are 15-30% aromatics. Eau du Cologne has even lighter aromatic oil contents. This type of scent usually has around 5-15% aromatic compounds. Toilet water or sometimes referred to as body splash has only 3-5% aromatics. Body splash are ideally used after you take a bath or shower.

When you make your own perfume, you get to choose which solvent you would use to dilute the blend. Available at your disposal are either jojoba or alcohol. Both have distinct differences and benefits. Jojoba is great for perfume blends because it never turns rancid.

When you have created your own perfume blend, it is best that you use the perfume only on your pulse points. Anywhere more and you might overdo the scent. For diluting the blend the traditional way, you use grain alcohol or a high grade proof of vodka. Alcohol makes the blend more volatile. The problem with alcohol is that you have to let the perfume blend evolve. If you don't the scent will smell more like an alcohol rather than a perfume. Usual proportions of alcohol and perfume blend is about three or four ml of the blend combined with five or 10 drops of alcohol.

Making your own perfume should be fun. Don't delve too much on the technicality of blending perfumes. Explore and try to make combinations that are unheard off. You never know, the resulting blend might be perfect to your body chemistry.

Scents and fragrances react differently when applied to your body. Choosing one that fits you is like choosing the right color of dress or the right pair of shoes to wear. Perfumes cannot just be worn arbitrarily. The resulting scent might be catastrophic. That's why you need to experiment more when making your own perfume. Try various combinations of scents until you find the perfect one for you.

The basic about women’s perfume is that they come in different types but they all contain alcohol and water. Pure perfume is the most concentrated among all the perfumes, with concentration hovering at 20% to 25%, which may explain why it is the most expensive. When perfume is this concentrated, be sure to use it in moderation since it is pricey and quite potent.
The next most concentrated form of perfume would be the Eau de perfume, with a concentration of 15% to 20%. This has a lower price and thus may be more used than the pure concentrated perfume. You can usually find this in spray form.
Eau de toilette carries a 14% concentration and is actually suitable for both men and women to use. It is less costly than the first two and will often be packaged as a spray.
Eau fraiche has quite a small fragrance concentration and is believed to be more suitable for the warmer climes, since it has less alcohol than the others (practically zero alcohol actually.)

In fact, the middle notes are the most defining ingredients which will be the ones deposited on your skin once the alcohol evaporates.

Maybe there is someone special in your life and you want to give perfumes as gifts. But you do not want to give just any perfumes as gifts – you only want the best, because for your loved one, the best is always worth it. So how does one go about choosing the best types of perfumes as gifts?
The first and most obvious way could be selecting perfumes based on what you know the recipient likes. This may mean literally bringing over your friend to a perfume retail counter or two and having him or her pick out perfumes as gifts for himself or herself (all on you, of course.) But the problem with this is that your friend may have expensive tastes, so you are placed on the spot and have to pay anyway.

How can something that smells so sweet be so expensive? Here we can see one of the most basic advantages of wearing perfume – simply that it is good to smell. And that contributes to its most basic disadvantage – the better it smells, the more expensive it is.
Many women get around the disadvantage of high costs by choosing the less expensive varieties so they can wear perfume more frequently. This gives them one of great advantages of wearing perfume because a good perfume can really lift your mood and make your day go much better than without it – and since you chose the less expensive varieties, that means you will be in a much better mood for many of your days than if you chose a more costly variety.

Perfume has been a desired commodity since ancient times and many of the techniques used are still used to some degree today. He prefers to send shoppers home with four to six samples from the category they like best and instructions to spray one on each day for a week until they settle on a favorite. When you’re paying $200 for a milliliter of fragrance, it’s worth the effort. But you can also safely leave the store with a bottle in hand if you’re willing to try on a few fragrances—but no more than four. Put one on the inside of each wrist and one in the crook of each elbow.

04 WAIT
It takes at least 15 minutes for a fragrance to react with your skin and for the heart of it to kick in. Spicier fragrances actually get stronger the longer they stay on your body. “It’s like red wine,” Gerstner says. “You don’t open the bottle and pour it in the glass. You let it breathe.” What you smell after 15 minutes will stick around for only an hour or two, but it’s similar enough to the scent that will last the rest of the day (called the “dry down”) that you’ll be able to judge it accurately.

05 PUT DOWN YOUR CREDIT CARD
In general, a well-made cologne costs between $150 and $200. Inexpensive fragrances have usually been made to be sold in mass quantities and are less complex to make. On the flip side, a scent that’s more expensive than $200 is rarely worth it. Even the priciest ingredients, such as vetiver, iris, and jasmine, shouldn’t cost more than that to bottle.
