<p><strong>The heartbeat of a new generation grows stronger all the time: with its Concept Style Coupé, appearing at this year&#8217;s Auto China (23 April to 2 May 2012), Mercedes-Benz will be making a convincing statement in favour of avantgarde design in the sporty executive coupé segment.</strong><strong></strong></p>
<div>The four-door coupé is a rebel when it comes to style: nonconformist, provocative and masculine. Technical highlights include its striking headlamp design featuring innovative indicators, the new four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with <strong>155 kW</strong>(211 hp) and the all-wheel drive system 4MATIC.</div>
<div>&#8220;The Concept Style Coupé is expressive and powerful in its design&#8221;, said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. &#8220;We are staking our claim very clearly here. This is the model against which sporty vehicles in the executive segment will have to measure themselves in future.&#8221;</div>
<div>&#8220;The almost production-standard Concept Style Coupé sets a new benchmark for avantgarde design in the executive segment&#8221;, emphasised Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz. &#8220;Its breathtaking proportions, sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines are the physical expression of our dynamic design idiom.&#8221;</div>
<div>Following a brief appearance at the Avant/Garde Diaries event in Los Angeles (20 April to 6 May 2012), the Mercedes-Benz Concept Style Coupé (length/width/height: 4637/1891/1398 mm) will be celebrating its official world premiere at Auto China in Beijing (23 April to 2 May 2012).</div>
<div><strong>Provocative and masculine: the exterior</strong></div>
<div>Its breathtakingly sporty proportions and powerfully dynamic design idiom, featuring the interplay between concave and convex surfaces that is so typical for Mercedes, give this four-door coupé its unmistakable look.</div>
<div>Among its most striking features are the way the bonnet with its powerdomes is set right into the front end assembly, as well as its diamond-look grille, which follows through on design cues set by the Concept A-CLASS. The paint finish of the concept vehicle is in Alubeam – a colour that helps to emphasise the sculptural quality of its lines.</div>
<div>The innovative headlamps of the Concept Style Coupé are reminiscent of the ever wary, almost intimidating eyes of a predatory animal. In standby mode they shine red. The indicatorsare another special feature: when they are activated, the individual elements light up one after another in a &#8220;Mexican wave&#8221; effect.</div>
<div>Three prominent lines give structure to the vehicle when viewed from the side: the front structural edge over the wings flows towards the rear end in a characteristic dropping line. Another, more sinewy line spans the shoulder muscle above the rear axle, while the third line extends upward in a sweeping curve from the front wheel towards the rear. Together, these lines lend more depth and dynamism to the side profile. The ripple design of the prominent exterior mirrors takes advantage of the design freedoms enjoyed by a concept car.</div>
<div>The same is true of the 20-inch wheels, with their very sporty turbine design. Perforated pins on the spokes pick up once again on the diamond-theme of the radiator grille. The Concept Style Coupé features frameless side windows and has no B-pillar.</div>
<div>A large panoramic roof creates a light and airy interior. A metal rib, the shape of which evokes a roll-over bar, separates the roof from the rear windscreen, which in turn flows down to merge smoothly into the tail end. The avantgarde lines of the Coupé are further emphasised by the way the tail lights, with their metallic-red colouring, taper to a sharp point both to the front and toward the rear centre. An integrated dual-flow exhaust system underlines the car&#8217;s sporty credentials and gives added width to the tail end. A narrow rear diffuser picks up again on the dotted pattern of the diamond grille.</div>
<div><strong>High-grade sportiness: the interior</strong></div>
<div>The interior opens up to reveal taut, expressively sculptured surfaces. A large carbon-fibre trim panel spans its full width, giving it the elegance and distinctively ‘cool’ appeal of a coupé. Standing proud from the instrument cluster are the two tubes, also in carbon fibre and individually glazed. When the indicator is activated, a ring lights up in the tubes.</div>
<div>Flowing back in a long, continuous wave from the instrument panel is the centre console. Embedded in this is an intricately designed fan module for the two rear seats, which also incorporates a stowage compartment.</div>
<div>The world of fashion provided the inspiration for the colour mix of light grey and anthracite. A fresh, sporty touch is added by neon green piping and topstitching, which appear on the instrument panel, steering wheel, seat<br />
and door centre panels, amongst other places.</div>
<div>Fine materials combine with high-grade workmanship to set a new benchmark for quality. There has been no stinting on the use of leather, either: the instrument panel is upholstered in white nubuck leather, providing an interesting contrast with the anthracite-coloured Alcantara®used on the upper section of the instrument panel. Suede is used on the sports steering wheel to ensure better grip. All chrome trim elements and control panels now for the first time feature a black anodised finish, as seen on top-of-the-range limited Sports Edition chronograph watches. The surfaces around the HMI control panel have the glossy shimmer of black anodised aluminium.</div>
<div>The four integral seats with integrated head restraints are already familiar from the Sports version of the new A-Class. An electroplated insert in the upper part of the seat adds to the impression of lightness and is illuminated.</div>
<div>The design of the air vents in the instrument panel evokes an aircraft jet engine. As in the Concept A-CLASS they are backlit and change colour according to the temperature set by the occupants for the climate control system. When cool, fresh air is being brought into the car, they are blue, but they light up red when the airflow is warm. At a mid-range temperature setting the vents are illuminated in fluorescent yellow, and thus match the colour of the piping perfectly.</div>
<div><strong>&#8220;Always on&#8221;, even in the car: the multimedia system</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>With COMAND Online and the various Mercedes-Benz apps developed specifically to be used and controlled while on the move, as well as with the ability to browse the internet when the vehicle is stationary, the occupants of the Concept Style Coupé are &#8220;always on&#8221; and able to maintain their digital lifestyle at all times.</div>
<div>Mercedes-Benz is firmly convinced that the future lies with cloud computing. The software for the COMAND Online applications is not stored in the vehicle, but runs off the Daimler Vehicle Backend. The advantage is that the system can be updated with new applications &#8220;over-the-air&#8221; (OTA) through a mobile phone connection, without the car having to be taken into the workshop. The software is thus always up to date, irrespective of the development cycles of either the vehicles or the consumer electronic devices.</div>
<div><strong>Sportiness in tune with the times: the engine</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>Sporty driving dynamics coupled with exemplary efficiency are the hallmarks of the engine of the Concept Style Coupé. Powerful wheel-hub drive is provided by the 2.0-litre version of the new petrol engine generation with <strong>155 kW</strong> (211 hp), combined here with the efficient 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and the 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission.</div>
<div><a name="key1_150_25"></a>Among the highlights of the four-cylinder engine are its direct-injection system with exhaust gas turbocharging, an enhanced combustion system and extended stratification ranges for lean-burn operation using fast-acting injectors for the multiple fuel injections, and multi-spark ignition according to need.</div>

<li>
<div><strong>Start of production of BharatBenz heavy-duty trucks already in the 3rd quarter of 2012</strong></div>
</li>
</ul>
<div>Following its construction in a record time of about 24 months, the new state-of-the-art production plant of the wholly owned Daimler subsidiary, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., has been completed in Oragadam-Chennai. In presence of members of the Daimler AG board of management and J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of the state Tamil Nadu in South India, DICV inaugurated the around 160-hectare manufacturing site along with the integrated research and development center and the state-of-the-art test track at a festive ceremony held today. The plant is one of only three Daimler truck plants worldwide to combine truck assembly and components production at one location. The total investment of DICV is 44 billion Indian rupees (over €700 million) including the manufacturing facility for BharatBenz brand trucks as well as research and development. The start of production of the BharatBenz heavy-duty trucks are scheduled already for the 3rd quarter of 2012.</div>
<div>In Chennai, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, explained, “Our new Oragadam-Chennai plant shares Daimler’s stringent quality standards with its sister plants around the world and is unique at the same time. It is the only Daimler plant in the world that houses products which combine Indian engineering with German and Japanese DNA under a single roof. This way, we are optimally positioning ourselves for one of the world’s strongest and fastest-growing truck markets.”</div>
<div>The facility in Oragadam-Chennai will produce the versatile BharatBenz product range for the Indian volume market. While some BharatBenz truck models are based on the Mercedes-Benz Axor platform, others are built on the Fuso Canter series. The plant in Chennai has an initial production capacity of 36,000 units per year and is designed to allow an increase up to more than 70,000 commercial vehicles per year.</div>
<div>Andreas Renschler, Daimler Board of Management member responsible for <strong>Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses</strong>, emphasized at the plant inauguration in India, “DICV is an outstanding example of Daimler Trucks’ Global Excellence strategy. Our worldwide production network and our global research and development efforts enable us to develop, manufacture, and sell trucks in India, for India. We do all of this in close proximity to our customers, for our customers.”</div>
<div>BharatBenz trucks are robust and reliable vehicles for the modern domestic segment, which illustrates the consistently increasing demands of the Indian customers. This segment currently accounts for four percent of all trucks in India, but this figure is expected to rise to almost 80 percent by 2020. With a product portfolio of 17 BharatBenz commercial vehicles by 2014, DICV is preparing for the promising Indian truck market, which has developed into the world’s third largest market with a volume of more than 330,000 vehicles in the weight classes of 5 to 49 tonnes in 2011.</div>
<div>To benefit from India’s market potential in the commercial vehicle segment, the plant in Oragadam-Chennai was built for the future local production of BharatBenz trucks. At the celebratory inauguration, Marc Llistosella, CEO and Managing Director of DICV, declared, “Filled with pride and joy, I dedicate today’s plant opening to the employees of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. Our work-force is primarily Indian and has steadily increased to include more than 1,400 employees today.”</div>
<div>Llistosella added, “Our focus on localization has resulted in more than 40 percent of our suppliers being located within a 40-kilometer radius of the plant. Overall, our BharatBenz trucks will have a localization rate of 85 percent in India.”</div>
<div><strong>Cooperation with local suppliers and the creation of an extensive dealership network</strong></div>
<div>Daimler’s Indian commercial vehicle subsidiary cooperates with over 450 suppliers who were selected after stringent quality and due diligence tests. In cooperation with local car and commercial vehicle dealers, DICV has built up a nationwide retail network that will encompass around 70 locations by the end of 2012. The retail network will be expanded to more than 100 dealerships by 2014.</div>
<div>The Daimler subsidiary Daimler Financial Services will offer financing and insurance products for dealers and customers in support of BharatBenz vehicle sales.</div>
<div><strong>About Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.</strong></div>
<div>Daimler India Commercial Vehicles is a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, which is based in Stuttgart, Germany. Starting this year, DICV will produce commercial vehicles for the Indian volume market. The products will be customized to serve all major customer segments, ranging from owner-operators to large fleet operators. The company, which has more than1,400 employees, also handles marketing, sales, and after sales of Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks in India.</div>

<p><strong>High tech for the AMG off-road classic: the new G 63 AMG impresses with state-of-the-art drive technology, expressive design and increased fuel economy. All this is largely attributable to the AMG 5.5‑litre V8 biturbo engine delivering 400 kW (544 hp) and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission system. Even more exclusive is the new G 65 AMG: its AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine delivers 450 kW (612 hp) and reaches a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres – a record in the off-road segment.</strong></p>
<div>Every new AMG high-performance vehicle offers an outstanding mix of “more power from less fuel” – and the G 63 AMG is no exception. The “strong man” in the AMG model range has been further enhanced with the state-of-the-art powertrain of the new ML 63 AMG. The design has been comprehensively reworked, so that, for the first time in the 33-year history of the G-Class, AMG customers can enjoy a raft of future-oriented systems: spray-controlled petrol direct injection, the ECO start/stop function and generator management. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine develops a maximum output of <strong>400 kW</strong> (544 hp) and a torque of 760 newton metres. This enables the new G 63 AMG to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, with a new top speed of 210 km/h (electronically limited).</div>
<div>The new G 63 AMG outperforms the G 55 AMG KOMPRESSOR by <strong>27 kW</strong> (37 hp) and 60 newton metres. Its direct predecessor was a clear favourite for G-Class purchasers, with a sales ratio of over 40 percent.</div>

<div>* electronically limited</div>
<div><strong>AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC and ECO start/stop function</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The vehicle’s driving performance features are matched by its impressive advances in the area of fuel economy. The fuel consumption of 13.8 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined) is a reduction of 2.1 litres on the predecessor model, representing fuel savings of 13 percent. This reduction can be attributed to the state-of-the-art biturbo eight-cylinder engine, along with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission system, the generator management system and the ECO start/stop function. The seven-speed automatic gearbox features three drive modes and an automatic double-declutching function for downshifting, creating an incredible range of variability. In “Controlled Efficiency” (C) mode, the ECO start/stop function is active, shutting down the eight-cylinder engine when the vehicle is stationary. “C” mode is also characterised by smooth accelerator and transmission characteristics and early gear changes; the vehicle is usually started in second gear in this mode. The AMG instrument cluster includes a green “ECO” symbol, indicating when the ECO start/stop function is on.</div>
<div>In the Sport (S) and Manual (M) modes, the ECO start/stop function is off, and the engine-transmission combination displays far greater agility. Short, precisely defined ignition and injection retardations mean shorter shift times when changing up at full load. The efficiency of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission system is further enhanced with a new fuel economy converter with centrifugal pendulum, friction-reducing bearing and transmission oil thermal management.</div>
<div><strong>The fascination of the characteristic sound of a V8 AMG</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>A glance at the AMG sports exhaust system will reassure any doubters that all these efficiency advances have not been at the expense of emotional appeal. The twin tailpipes on both sides at the rear put out the hallmark AMG eight-cylinder sound that means so much to the vehicle’s many admirers. The latest catalytic converter technology is used to ensure that the G 63 AMG meets both the EU 5 exhaust emissions standard and the requirements for the US market (LEV-II standard, on-board diagnosis II and lambda probe diagnosis).</div>
<div><strong>New chassis settings, optimised acoustic comfort</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The suspension/damper settings in the AMG Sports chassis have been adjusted for the more dynamic handling characteristics of the new model. To reduce vibration and noise impacts, the design engineers at Mercedes-AMG have also implemented a wide range of NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) measures. Optimised bearings for the automatic gearbox, transfer case and engine cut vibration and noise levels. All this ensures a more comfortable ride and helps to keep the driver fit and alert, particularly over long distances.</div>
<div>The wheels and brakes are also completely new. The G 63 AMG runs on new AMG 5&#215;2 spoke light alloy wheels as standard equipment. The 9.5 x 20 titanium-grey-painted wheels with high-sheen finish are fitted with 275/50 R 20 tyres. As an exclusive special equipment option, the vehicle can be fitted with matt-black-painted AMG light alloy wheels with high-sheen rim flanges. The new AMG high-performance brakes deliver top performance in terms of deceleration, adjustable feed and endurance. All-round ventilated, perforated brake discs with dimensions of 375 x 36 millimetres at the front and 330 x 20 millimetres at the rear provide optimum thermal capability and outstanding deceleration values. The front axle is fitted with a six-piston fixed-calliper brake system taken from the ML 63 AMG, with a single-piston floating-calliper system on the rear axle. The brake callipers are painted red around the entire circumference, and are also available in silver.</div>
<div><strong>Fully readjusted ESP® for with more comfort functions</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The new generation of the G-Class also offers a range of exemplary safety features. For example, the luxury off-roader has a completely readjusted ESP®, with automatic control systems including the start-up assist and a HOLD function, both for easier hill starts. And in an emergency braking situation, when the driver suddenly releases the accelerator and hits the brake pedal, the brake system increases the pressure in the brake lines and applies the brake linings to the discs. This ensures maximum effect as soon as the brake is applied. This “pre-filling” function supports the brake assist fitted as standard.</div>
<div>For customers ordering the optional trailer coupling, the ESP® trailer stabilisation feature provides increased safety when the vehicle is pulling a trailer. This additional ESP® function detects the trailer as soon as the electric connector plug is inserted in the socket on the towing vehicle. The ESP® trailer stabilisation system uses the sensors of the ESP®, counteracting any fishtailing of the trailer at speeds higher than 65 km/h by alternating brake application to the left and right front wheels. This is generally sufficient to eliminate the problem and prevent any further risk. In very severe fishtailing situations, the engine torque is also reduced and the towing vehicle is braked on all four wheels, to get the vehicle back to within a safe speed range as quickly as possible.</div>
<div><strong>Characteristic AMG styling with the new face of the brand</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The appearance of the eight-cylinder top-of-the-range model is also definitely up with the times. Following the example of the SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG, the G 63 AMG has also taken on the new face of the AMG brand. The high-gloss black “twin-blade” radiator grille with four chrome inserts makes the new G-Class model instantly recognisable as an AMG. The grille design is consistent with the car’s classic contours, with an off-road look perfectly integrated into the vehicle’s overall appearance.</div>
<div>Another completely new feature is the AMG bumper, with three generously dimensioned openings as airflow inlets for the cooling module. Vertical high-gloss chrome stainless steel inserts create a distinctively masculine look for the G 63 AMG. New LED daytime running lamps are fitted below the bi-xenon headlamps. As before, only the AMG model has the characteristic wheel-arch flares, stainless-steel running boards and side protective strips with stainless-steel inserts. Other distinctive features include the “V8 BITURBO” logo on the front mudguard and G 63 AMG type plate on the rear door.</div>
<div><strong>Stylish new-look interior with increased comfort</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The interior features even more innovations in comparison with the predecessor model. Along with the facelift changes provided as standard, including the new instrument panel and state-of-the-art infotainment and assist systems, the G 63 AMG has an AMG instrument cluster with colour TFT screen, AMG main menu and separate gear display, plus white-lit AMG sills on all doors. The classy E-SELECT shift lever with the distinctive AMG medallion is a familiar feature from other models such as the SLS AMG. An exclusive on-board environment is created by the designo leather upholstery with ruffled leather door panelling. Options available for an even more stylish interior comprise the AMG carbon trim and the designo Exclusive package.</div>
<div><strong>Exclusive twelve-cylinder performance: the new G 65 AMG</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>Even more exclusive, and also the world’s most powerful production off-road vehicle, is the new G 65 AMG. With maximum output of <strong>450 kW</strong> (612 hp) and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres, the top-of-the-range V12 model delights the connoisseur with its incomparably dynamic handling characteristics. The G 65 AMG accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 230 km/h (electronically limited). This is the first G-Class vehicle to be equipped with the AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine, which features new exhaust turbochargers with increased spiral cross-section, flow-optimised wastegate channels, multi-spark ignition with twelve double-ignition coils and a higher-power engine control unit. The result is enhanced combustion, leading to smoother running and power delivery. The high-quality carbon and aluminium engine cover adds a final visual touch to this extensive package of new features. As in the G 63 AMG, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G‑TRONIC automatic transmissionsystem is responsible for power transmission to all four wheels.</div>

<div>The G 55 AMG KOMPPRESSOR has been a favourite since 2004, as a strong character, immune to passing fashions. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 supercharged engine initially developed 350 kW (476 hp), increasing to 368 kW (500 hp) in 2006 and 373 kW (507 hp) in 2009. The maximum torque of 700 newton metres remained unchanged, along with the vehicle’s supremely dynamic performance values. The G 55 AMG KOMPRESSOR accelerated from zero to 100/km in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h (electronically limited).</div>

<div><strong>Michael Schumacher will be the special guest of Mercedes-Benz at Hockenheim on 29 April for the 2012 DTM season opener</strong></div>

<div><strong>Trackside support for brother Ralf Schumacher, the new Mercedes-Benz Junior Team of Roberto Merhi, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens, and for DTM colleagues David Coulthard, Jamie Green, Gary Paffett and Susie Wolff</strong></div>
</li>
</ul>
<div>The DTM enters a new era on 29 April, with spectacular new cars and a third premium manufacturer competing for the title. They are all good reasons why Michael Schumacher will attend the opening race of the world’s most popular touring car series. Michael will be at Hockenheim for the opening race weekend of the DTM’s new era as a guest of Mercedes-Benz.</div>
<div>The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS driver competed in four DTM races as a member of the Mercedes-Benz junior team in the 1990 and 1991 seasons.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Then as now, the championship was fiercely contested by the three prestigious German marques Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.</div>
<div>Among the eight drivers racing for Mercedes-Benz this season is his younger brother Ralf Schumacher (Germany, 36, DTM Mercedes AMG C‑Coupé) who claimed his first DTM podium finish in last year’s season opener at the Hockenheimring.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>The seven-time World Champion will also see the three members of the new Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, Roberto Merhi (Spain, 20, Junge Sterne Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, Persson Motorsport), Christian Vietoris (Germany, 23, Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Coupé, HWA) and Robert Wickens (Canada, 22, stern Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, Mücke Motorsport), after meeting them for the first time during pre-season Formula 1 testing in Barcelona</div>
<div></div>
<blockquote>
<div><strong>Michael Schumacher:</strong> “It doesn’t seem all that long ago since we launched the new DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September. I’m really interested to see whether the car looks as good on track as it did during the launch. And of course, I’ll be supporting my brother Ralf.</div>
<div></div>
<div>He got his first DTM podium finish a year ago in Hockenheim and, who knows, maybe we’ll have a reason to celebrate this time round as well. I&#8217;m also looking forward to the first race for the newly formed Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, and its drivers Christian Vietoris, Robert Wickens and Roberto Merhi. Just like I did at the start of my career, these young drivers have the benefit of being supported by Mercedes-Benz as they make the step to top-flight motor racing.</div>
<div></div>
<div>It’s a long time since I last went to the DTM, so I’m looking forward to an exciting race at Hockenheim and to enjoying the fantastic atmosphere.”</div>

<p><strong>Mercedes-Benz has once again significantly upgraded the G‑Class, so reemphasising its position as the leader among off-road vehicles. The interior is characterised by high-quality appointments finished with exquisite materials. The instrument cluster and centre console have been completely redesigned. The driver&#8217;s field of vision now encompasses a colour screen, between two new round dials. The car features as standard the sophisticated COMAND Online infotainment system, including a navigation system and internet access. New LED daytime driving lamps and new exterior mirrors bring a few discreet changes to the exterior appearance of the luxury off-roader. The range of safety features can be optionally enhanced with the addition of Blind Spot Assist, the parking aid PARKTRONIC and the adaptive cruise control system DISTRONIC PLUS. New to the range are the G 63 AMG with an eight-cylinder biturbo engine and the ECO start/stop system as standard, and the G 65 AMG with twelve-cylinder biturbo engine.</strong></p>
<div>Since it was originally conceived in 1979, as a vehicle to be used primarily in tough off-road terrain, the G-Class has undergone an astounding process of evolution. Over the course of 33 years Mercedes-Benz has refined what was initially a very practically-oriented off-road specialist by giving it a high-class interior and road-going qualities on a par with those of the premium saloons emanating from Stuttgart. The G-Class today is considered the top model among luxury-class cross-country vehicles, and has provided the gene pool for the other very successful SUVs built under the Mercedes-Benz brand. The G-Class has been voted off-roader of the year countless times over the past years – as also once again this year.</div>
<div>A comprehensive range of measures ensures that this classic cross-country vehicle remains in a class of its own in the off-road sector.</div>
<div>These measures include new engines, a significantly extended range of appointments, a new, even more luxurious interior and a few discreet external modifications that nevertheless manage to preserve the timeless, classic design – virtually unchanged since 1979 &#8211; that has made the G-Class a true automotive style icon.</div>
<div>Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: &#8220;Our G-Class has been a force to be reckoned with for the last 33 years. In its latest evolutionary stage, it offers state-of-the-art, powerful engines, a further improved range of luxurious appointments and the very latest safety features, as well, of course, as its now legendary off-road capabilities. At the same time the design remains true to its down-to-earth, unmistakable style.&#8221;</div>
<div><strong>Discreet exterior modifications, a complete new look inside</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The external modifications include LED daytime running lamps and new exterior mirrors for all engine variants. The AMG versions also feature a new, characteristic AMG radiator grille with double louvres, plus distinctive new bumpers with large air intakes. Red brake callipers and 20-inch wheels, available here for the first time, complement the emotive appeal of its exterior.</div>
<div>The instrument panel and centre console have been completely redesigned to include new controls and generously proportioned, exclusively designed trim elements. These give the interior of the car a fresh and classy look. Drivers will now find a TFT colour display in the instrument cluster between the two round dials. A further large colour screen, conveniently positioned in the centre, is part of the COMAND Online system and incorporates a DVD changer and the COMAND Controller, which are standard on all G-Class models. This new infotainment generation offers, amongst other features, a navigation system with special additional off-road functions, the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. In order to ensure that the G-Class nevertheless does not lose any of its character, certain specific design elements in the interior have been preserved. The G-Class thus retains the grab handle on the front-passenger side, the switches for the three differential locks – clearly aligned within the driver&#8217;s field of vision and highlighted in silver-coloured trim – and the redesigned shift lever in the lower section of the centre console.</div>
<div>New optional extras include safety features such as DISTRONIC PLUS, Blind Spot Assist and the parking aid PARKTRONIC with reversing camera. The ESP®system has been completely revised and now includes Trailer Stability Assist and a HOLD function.</div>
<div>Further individualisation options from the exclusive designo range are available as enhancements to what is already a very high-quality interior package.</div>
<div><strong>Sophisticated engines with high power reserves</strong></div>
<div>The range of engines in the G-Class includes the G 350 BlueTEC and the G 500, both as a long-wheelbase station wagon, plus the G 500 as a short-wheelbase Cabriolet model. The basic version of the long-wheelbase station wagon model is the G 350 BlueTEC with V6 diesel engine and a displacement of 2987 cc. The four-valve engine has an output of <strong>155 kW</strong> (211 hp) at 3400 rpm and has available torque of 540 Newton metres across an engine speed range of 1600 to 2400 rpm. The BlueTEC technology developed by Mercedes-Benz minimises its emissions, in particular of nitrogen oxides (NOx). The G 350 BlueTEC works to even better effect with the addition of AdBlue®, an aqueous urea solution that is injected into the flow of exhaust gases. Refilling with AdBlue®is conveniently done from the outside of the vehicle.</div>
<div>One alternative to the diesel engine is the G 500, with its powerful 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine. This has an output of <strong>285 kW</strong> (388 hp) and offers excellent torque of 530 Newton metres. The same engine also ensures that the G 500 Cabriolet has generous reserves of power to deal with any situation.</div>
<div>Both the G 350 and the G 500 feature the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission as standard. This sixth generation of the stepped automatic transmission that has been developed and produced by Mercedes-Benz since 1960 has once again been thoroughly revised, and optimised with regard to both consumption and comfort.</div>
<div>New to the range is the G 63 AMG with V8 biturbo engine (<strong>400 kW</strong>/544 hp and 760 Nm of torque), which features the ECO start/stop system as standard. The engine range has been extended by the addition of the G 65 AMG with V12 biturbo engine (<strong>450 kW</strong>/612 hp and 1000 Nm of torque), making this the most powerful series-produced cross-country vehicle in the world.</div>

<p><strong>The new Mercedes-Benz Motorsports Selection is now available from Mercedes-Benz dealers and at the online shop. Motorsports fans can choose from three dozen products, ranging from high-quality chronograph watches through fashionable apparel to practical fan articles such as cushions and flags.</strong></p>
<div>A highlight in the 2012 racing season is the exclusive cooperation with new team partner PUMA. The range of Formula 1 team articles covers drivers&#8217; and team jackets,<br />
T-shirts, caps and other important accessories for visits to the race circuit. At the same time, the green of Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 partner PETRONAS is being introduced into the colour design of many motorsports fan articles.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>The best-selling item last year was the Michael Schumacher Formula 1 cap. In 2012 the anthracite-coloured cap, which is also available in a Rosberg variant, features green contrasts on the piping. Other new items include a stylish ballpoint pen with black cap, chrome body and centre ring in Petronas green and a black belt in contrasting silver and green. The metal buckle sports an embossed Mercedes-Benz star.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>Three watches from the Motorsports Selection ensure that fans will not miss a second of the racing action: a totally new addition is the three-handed watch with stainless steel case and date display. The green seconds hand is offset particularly effectively against the black face. Two leather straps in white and black with stitching are included. The design of the carbon face and the strap of the limited-edition chronograph watch have been made even more attractive. The sporty Passion watch kicks off the new season unaltered.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>The extensive range of sporty and functional clothing includes a men&#8217;s short-armed polo shirt in black cotton piqué featuring white contrasting sleeve trims and highlights in silver, Petronas green and white. The women&#8217;s polo shirt in the same material comes in white. Button border and collar band are in Petronas green and the Mercedes-Benz star in the chest area consists of rhinestone. Caps in a matching colour are available for both polo shirts. The clothing range further includes a men&#8217;s T-shirt featuring a print of a DTM car, a matching new DTM cap with mesh inserts and a men&#8217;s windcheater.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>The current Mercedes-Benz motorsport look with green piping also features on the functional sports bag with washbag and the rucksack with the Airstripes back system for high carrying comfort. Both articles are produced by renowned rucksack specialist Deuter. Also &#8220;made by deuter&#8221; is the black and white wallet with green piping.</div>
<div>The Mercedes-Benz Motorsports Selection also offers a smart iPhone®case. The black polyester case has a practical lug for pulling out the iPhone®or closing the case and is also provided with a belt loop.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>Mercedes motorsports fans will be prepared for all weathers with the silver and green guest umbrella, whose Teflon coating effectively prevents soiling, and with a pair of sunglasses. This unisex model is &#8220;made by Rodenstock&#8221; and is fitted with polycarbonate lenses offering UV 400 protection. A cushion provides a comfortable seat at the races. The 40 x 40 centimetre cushion can be folded together for transportation purposes and features convenient grips for carrying.</div>

<p><strong>Comfort, safety, elegance, efficiency – the new GL-Class from Mercedes-Benz demonstrates leadership qualities in all the decisive SUV disciplines. Innovations such as the standard-specification Crosswind Assist, the STEER CONTROL steering assistance system, the load recognition and the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST (CPA) increase the active safety. Other new features to become available are assistance systems such as Active Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist, together with a parking package incorporating an automatic function for entering and exiting parking spaces, plus a 360° camera. With excellent driving dynamics and high levels of ride comfort – both on the road and on difficult terrain – the GL-Class pampers its occupants with the first-class comfort of a luxury saloon. Up to seven passengers enjoy an excellent amount of space. Numerous BlueEFFICIENCY measures significantly increase the energy efficiency: the GL 350 BlueTEC 4 MATIC diesel model, for instance, consumes 7.4 litres of diesel per hundred kilometres, which is around 20 percent less than the predecessor, whilst also undercutting the future exhaust emission regulations in accordance with EU 6. In the case of the 300 kW (408 hp) GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY petrol model, the fuel consumption falls by about 18 percent.</strong></p>
<div>Dr Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales &amp; Marketing, has it spot on when he describes the new generation as follows: “The new GL-Class occupies the top position amongst the luxury SUVs. With its comprehensive assistance systems it has a pioneering role where safety and comfort are concerned, and is on a par with an S-Class – even off the beaten track.” Even at first glance the 2012 GL-Class is recognisable as a characteristic representative of the Mercedes-Benz Sports Utility Vehicle family. This new interpretation of the first generation impresses with its powerful dynamism and sporty elegance. In the front area the hallmark GL upright radiator grille with its central star and the clear, high-quality design of the headlamps with an LED flare dominate. The daytime running lamps featuring LED technology are integrated in a chrome insert in the bumper, and beneath the radiator grille the generously sized chrome-look underguard completes the self-confident appearance of the front.</div>
<div>With its balanced proportions (a length of 5120 mm, width of 2141 mm and height of 1850 mm) and the large wheelbase (measuring 3075 mm), the side view underlines the vehicle’s on-road emphasis. At the same time the short body overhangs at the front and rear, together with the large ground clearance, point to its off-road suitability. The hallmark-SUV high beltline with its high-quality trim, the feature line which rises dynamically and the chrome edging on the window surfaces highlight the vehicle’s effortlessly superior look. As part of its standard specification the GL is shod with attractive 10-spoke 18‑inch light-alloy wheels, and as an option wheels up to 53.3 cm (21 inches) are available. The tail end with two-piece LED tail lights featuring fibre optics, a large roof spoiler and the bumper in a contemporary “wing design” with a generously chromed underguard rounds off the befitting appearance of the luxurious full-size SUV.</div>
<div>For GL customers who place particular importance on a sporty, dynamic appearance, an extensive AMG Exterior Sports package is now available for the first time. In addition to the hallmark-AMG front and rear apron, it also offers special wheel-arch flarings, which span over the 53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG 5‑twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. Illuminated aluminium-look running boards also form part of the scope of supply, as do perforated brake discs and brake calliper covers with Mercedes-Benz lettering.</div>
<div><strong>Inner values: the GL-Class offers automotive first class</strong></div>
<div>Powerfully dynamic and elegant interior design, fine materials and lovingly crafted details, optimum ergonomics and a generous amount of space – the interior of the GL-Class oozes the ambience of wellbeing so characteristic of Mercedes-Benz. Generously sized trim in various wood or aluminium variants, controls in silver chrome and the upholstery with the breathable ARTICO man-made leather and the stitching in a contrasting colour underline the high-quality overall impression. The seats offer seven people a generous amount of space and follow the 2-3-2 system. Compared with the predecessor the occupants on all three rows of seats have more shoulder room, elbow room and headroom. As part of the standard specification the third seat row can be operated electrically. Another new feature is the EASY-ENTRY system on both sides – also available with electric operation on request – for access to the third row of seats. The centre bench seat facilitates even higher interior variability with its manifold adjustment options, including a cargo setting for optimising the luggage compartment, which offers a capacity of 680 to 2300 litres.</div>
<div>In the interior the dashboard continues the visual emphasis on the vehicle’s width. The modern instrument cluster with two easily legible round dials with a clear-cut design and a large 11.4 cm colour display between the instrument tubes featuring photo-realistic representation stands out, making a high-quality impression. Next to it a large, central colour screen for the infotainment system dominates on the dashboard. The control and display concept impresses with excellent user-friendliness: infotainment, navigation and communication alike can be intuitively and very easily operated via the metal Controller on the centre console. As standard a multifunction steering wheel in nappa leather with steering-wheel gearshift paddles and 12 function keys is included on board.</div>
<div>Situated on the centre console, beneath the centre armrest with its integral palm support there is a generous stowage compartment, in front of it the Controllers and switches for the off-road programs, for example, the AIRMATIC air suspension and the COMAND system. Integrated here are two cup holders which can be heated and cooled as an option and which can be covered with a high-quality retractable wooden cover. In the door lining with distinctive stitching the trim from the dashboard continues, whilst the door openers and seat adjustment switches are arranged in the proven Mercedes fashion. The designo Exclusive package is available as an optional extra, and amongst its features are fine designo nappa leather, extensive stitching and a exclusive diamond quilting on the seats and door lining.</div>
<div><strong>Assistance systems take the GL to the top of its market segment</strong></div>
<div>It is above all the numerous assistance systems which ensure enhanced handling safety and driver-fitness safety in the new GL-Class. As part of its standard specification the new GL-Class has some impressive new features alongside the usual dynamic handling control systems ESP®, ASR, ABS and the anticipatory safety concept PRE-SAFE®: on board for the first time are the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST (CPA) collision warning system and the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system. Ensuring a huge reduction of the burden on the driver in the limits of what is physically possible in terms of driving physics are systems such as the ESP® load recognition and the STEER CONTROL steering assistance system, which supports the driver with a steering torque on the steering wheel, for example, in the case of a vehicle which is oversteering. One of the new GL’s innovations and highlights is the standard-fit Crosswind Assist, which helps the motorist if the car is affected by strong crosswinds. It does so through targeted brake actuations, therefore ensuring an enhanced feeling of safety.</div>
<div>On request safety can be optimised by systems such as the DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control, the brake assist system BAS PLUS and the PRE-SAFE® Brake with an autonomous braking function – in certain hazardous situations which go unnoticed by the driver. Also available as an option are the Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and the Speed Limit Assist. The Active Parking Assist with an automatic function for entering and exiting parking spaces serves to enhance comfort. In darkness or when visibility is poor, the bi‑xenon headlamps with the Intelligent Light System (ILS) featuring the new off-road light, the Adaptive Highbeam Assist and the Night View Assist Plus ensure that the motorist has a sufficient view of the road. The optional 360° camera equipment feature comprises four cameras in the front and rear area as well as in the exterior mirror housings. The system control projects a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and of the area surrounding it from the image information, and shows them and other views in the generously sized COMAND display.</div>
<div><strong>Passive safety: all-round protection for seven occupants</strong></div>
<div>Together with the “electronic crumple zones” formed by the assistance systems and the intelligent body construction, the passive occupant protection systems result in the highest possible protection potential. Two-stage adaptive airbags for the driver and front passenger, a kneebag for the driver, sidebags for the driver and front passenger (combined thorax/pelvisbags) and windowbags above all three seat rows are part of the standard specification. The integration of the optional thorax bags into the tilt-adjustable folding seat backrests in the centre seat row facilitates an optimum airbag position for every backrest setting. In addition to this there are 3-point seat belts on board – for all seven seats. Other items included as standard include pyrotechnic inertia-reel tensioning and constant belt force limiters plus electrically reversible inertia-reel belt tensioners at the front, inertia-reel tensioners at the outer seats and single-stage belt force limiters at the outer seats on the centre bench seat and at the rear single seats.</div>
<div>The GL-Class is also able to demonstrate the highest possible protection potential when it comes to more vulnerable road users such as pedestrians or cyclists. In addition to yielding areas in the front section, folding exterior mirrors and smooth contours, the risk of injury caused by the vehicle has been reduced by adjusting the bonnet and increasing the distance to the components in the engine compartment. In addition, an active bonnet is fitted as standard equipment. It is able to reduce the acceleration forces of an impacting pedestrian or cyclist, and it increases the deformation area.</div>
<div><strong>Clean power pack: the engines for the GL-Class</strong></div>
<div>Both the BlueTEC diesel unit for the GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC and the GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY with a charged, direct-injecting BlueDIRECT petrol engine offer impressive performance coupled with high efficiency. On average the new model range undercuts the preceding model series by 19 percent when it comes to consumption figures.</div>

<div>* Provisional figures for the international model range which may vary from country to country</div>
<div>
Today the GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC with SCR technology and AdBlue®injection already undercuts the EU 5 emissions standard which is planned for 2014. With a consumption of 7.4-8.0 l/100 km (NEDC overall), the diesel model consumes 20 percent less than its predecessor, with the range per tank of fuel standing at 1280 kilometres. With a CO2 figure of 192 g per kilometre the GL 350 BlueTEC achieves the best value in its power category. In spite of the considerably reduced energy requirement, performance is significantly increased. Whilst the maximum output of the first-generation GL 350 BlueTEC was <strong>155 kW</strong> (211 hp) and the maximum torque 540 newton metres, the new model now boasts <strong>190 kW</strong> (258 hp) and 620 newton metres.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY has an NEDC consumption of 11.3-11.6 l/ 100 km, making it the most fuel-efficient V8 petrol model in its class. A charged 4.6-litre BlueDIRECT engine with <strong>300 kW</strong> (408 hp) is used here. The new generation consumes an average of 18 percent less fuel and offers the best classification currently possible: EU 5.</div>
<div>Alongside the ultra-modern engine technology, a comprehensive package of BlueEFFICIENCY measures supports the superb fuel economy. In addition to the standard-specification ECO start/stop function, these include the new seven-stage automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC PLUS. Other consumption-reducing features include the intelligent alternator management, the electric steering and tyres with optimised rolling resistance. The optimised belt-drive system with a decoupler, the intelligent (i.e. on-demand) control of all the ancillaries and pumps, plus the excellent cd value of 0.35, also minimise energy requirements. A decisive factor in the GL 350 BlueTEC diesel model is also the SCR exhaust gas system with an optimum flow and back pressure.</div>
<div>Extensive lightweight construction measures reduce the vehicle weight of the new GL-Class in comparison with its predecessor – by nearly 100 kilograms (GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC). By way of example, the links on the front and rear axle and the bonnet and wings consist of aluminium alloys which are as light as they are resilient. Further dietary measures concern the new acoustic windscreen, the magnesium cross member for the dashboard, the BlueTEC system with SCR technology and components such as the new electric steering, the electric parking brake, an engine support made of plastic and the new aluminium brake booster. Through these weight measures the agility of the full-size SUV increases whilst the fuel consumption is simultaneously cut.</div>
<div><strong>S-Class ride comfort with pioneering driving dynamics – on the road and off it</strong></div>
<div>Relaxed and, therefore, safe driving in all possible conditions both on and<br />
off the road is one of the new GL-Class’s strengths. In particular the NVH characteristics (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) are impressive and are on a par with those of the S-Class. The basis for the high level of NVH comfort is provided by the very rigid body, an optimised powertrain, the improved chassis, aero-acoustic refinements and the intelligent use of new-style insulation. At the same time, high agility, dynamic on-road handling and superb off-road abilities have always been advantages offered by the GL-Class. The standard specification includes the fully load-bearing air suspension system AIRMATIC with load recognition. The AIRMATIC facilitates excellent comfort with significantly enhanced handling. For example, with the Crosswind Assist and the load recognition it compensates for the most varied driving conditions. The optionally available ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM roll stabilisation works at the front and rear axle with active torsion-bar stabilisers and compensates for the roll angle during cornering; this significantly increases agility and driving pleasure. At the same time the system enhances handling, whilst even better ride comfort and extended off-road capabilities are also amongst the benefits of the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM.</div>
<div>The GL is optimally equipped for tours off the beaten track. Alongside the permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC, its standard specification includes start-off assist, Downhill Speed Regulation DSR and a special off-road driving program. The ON&amp;OFFROAD package for the new GL-Class has six driving programs for optimising driving dynamics and handling safety, as the optimum drive system control is provided for an extremely wide range of on-road and off-road operating conditions. In terms of “hardware”, the ON&amp;OFFROAD package comprises an underguard, a two-stage transfer case with a low-range ratio, an inter-axle differential lock and enhanced AIRMATIC functionality that allows a maximum ground clearance of 285 millimetres and a fording depth of 600 millimetres.</div>
<div><strong>Complete model range, impressive equipment variants</strong></div>
<div>An extensive range of standard equipment and appointments, individual equipment packages plus attractive paintwork and high-quality interiors characterise the look of the new GL-Class. There are two models available at market launch: the GL 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC with a V6 diesel engine and the GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY V8 petrol version.</div>
<div>The extensive range of standard equipment and appointments has been considerably enhanced compared with that of the predecessor. Amongst the safety features it offers are ATTENTION ASSIST, the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST warning system, Crosswind Assist and pedestrian protection with an active bonnet. Comfort details such as the electrically operated EASY-PACK tailgate, an electric sliding/tilting roof, the ARTICO upholstery with perforated man-made leather and electrically adjustable front seats are also part of the standard specification. In addition the GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY model offers Active Parking Assist, the Intelligent Light System (ILS), the KEYLESS-GO access and drive authorisation system, the 3-zone THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, multicontour seats for the driver and passenger including a massage function and Memory package, plus leather appointments. Another impressive feature is the novel EASY-ENTRY system in the rear compartment of the GL-Class: at the touch of a button the seats in the centre row fold down and allow easy entry and exit. The standard-specification entertainment headquarters in the GL-Class Audio 20 CD will delight drivers with a 14.7 cm (5.8-inch) colour display, MP3/WMA/AAC-capable CD drive, USB interface, AUX-IN connection, Bluetooth® interface and a telephone keypad. Thanks to the new COMAND Online multimedia system with its ultra-modern, silver-coloured 3D-look menu surface the GL-Class now has internet access for the first time. As an option the COMAND Online can be combined with the harman/kardon sound system or with the Bang &amp; Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system for the most discerning requirements, bringing with it stunning concert-hall acoustics.</div>
<div>As well as the standard-fit non-metallic paintwork in calcite white or black, the GL-Class can be ordered in the following metallic paintwork as an option: cavansite blue, iridium silver, obsidian black, pearl beige and tenorite grey. In addition to these the special metallic paintwork citrine brown, diamond white metallic BRIGHT and cinnabar red extend the wide selection of colours yet further. An AMG Sports package is available for the GL-Class for the first time, as is an AMG Exterior Sports package, which lends the SUV a particularly sporty touch, with an AMG front and rear apron in the vehicle colour, AMG wheel arch flarings, AMG 53.3 cm (21-inch) light-alloy wheels and the sports brake with perforated 48.3 cm (19-inch) brake discs. Illuminated aluminium-look running boards round off the package and the powerful appearance.</div>
<div><strong>Mercedes offers the most diverse range of SUVs</strong></div>
<div>The widest range of SUV vehicles is available from Mercedes-Benz. A total of five model series are available to choose from in this global growth-oriented market. Alongside the first-class SUV that is the GL-Class, the GLK compact character model, the off-road classic the “G”, the R-Class long-distance saloon and the best-selling M-Class complete the successful family. What’s more, Mercedes-Benz is the manufacturer of premium SUVs boasting the longest heritage. SUVs account for around one fifth of Mercedes-Benz’s global sales. The biggest market by far for the entire SUV family is the USA. This is where 27,000 GL-Class vehicles were sold in 2011, representing a market share of some 30 percent and making this model the undisputed market leader in its segment. The second largest market for the off-road vehicles as a whole is China, followed by Germany.</div>

<div><strong>Mercedes-Benz is upgrading the C- and E-Class with six new models and a comprehensive range of modifications, with particular focus on multimedia systems. The C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY, C 200 BlueEFFICIENCY Coupé, E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition and E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID set new records for efficiency in their respective segments, while the Coupé models C 250 Sport and C 250 CDI Sport, and the new AMG Plus sports package, continue to raise the profile of the C-Class.</strong><strong> Fun at the wheel and open-air enjoyment are just two of the fascinating qualities that characterise the Mercedes-Benz SLK. The Roadster is now available with a significantly extended range of optional safety equipment.</strong></div>
<p></p>
<div>In terms of the modifications to the multimedia systems, the emphasis is on new functions and improved ease of operation. The fully integrated COMAND Online system with internet access, plus the cost-effective navigation solution Becker® MAP PILOT, broaden the range of choices for the E-Class. The basic colour mood of the central display and the instrument cluster is now silver grey for both C- and E-Class.</div>
<div>From June 2012, C- and E-Class as well as SLK models with COMAND Online will include the new Mercedes-Benz emergency call system &#8220;eCall&#8221;. As long as COMAND Online is connected to a mobile telephone, the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system will automatically alert the emergency services in the event of a serious accident.</div>
<p></p>
<div>Since 31 March, a further three new apps have been available to COMAND Online customers – for news, share prices and help in finding a parking space. It is planned to introduce around a dozen new apps each year. Daimler has set up App Development Groups in Palo Alto, California/USA, and Bangalore, India, specifically for this purpose.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The C-Class</div>
<div><strong>Sportier and more communicative than ever</strong><strong> before</strong></div>
<div>The turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol unit is the brand new entry-level engine for all body variants of the C-Class. With fuel consumption of 5.8 l/100 km and a CO2 figure of 136 g/km, the improvement compared to the previous C 180 with a similar specification is as much as 21 g/km, or just under 1 l/100 km. This makes the <strong>C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY</strong> one of the very first petrol models to be ranked in energy efficiency class B. The <strong>115 kW</strong> (156 hp) engine is very light when compared to its competitors and delivers impressive agility from standstill – peak torque of 250 Nm is on tap from just 1250 rpm all the way up to 4000 rpm.</div>
<p></p>
<div>Rounding off the C-Class Coupé model range is the <strong>C 200 BlueEFFICIENCY</strong>. With <strong>135 kW</strong>(184 hp) and 270 Nm from just 1800 rpm, this engine is the perfect choice to meet the two-seater&#8217;s sporty ambitions. Consumption and CO2 emissions are 6.6 l/100 km and 154 g/km respectively.</div>
<div><strong>C-Class Coupé Sport – the best in its class for cornering</strong><strong></strong></div>
<p></p>
<div>The name says it all – there is a decidedly dynamic feel about the new Coupé models<strong>C 250 Sport and C 250 CDI Sport</strong> with <strong>150 kW </strong>(204 hp): after all, the performance specialists from AMG were involved in their development right from the start. Both models feature the visually enhanced AMG Plus Sports package, as well as further technical measures that help to improve driving enjoyment. Thanks to its AMG sports suspension with sportier spring and damper tuning, specially adjusted camber and bearings, a sports braking system and more direct speed-sensitive sports steering, cornering and handling are now significantly more dynamic. The final touches are provided in the Sports models by a sportier gear configuration with double-declutching function, a more agile accelerator response curve and shorter shift times. The &#8220;designo magno platinum&#8221; matt paintwork is an option exclusive to the Sports models.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>New AMG Plus sports package, new colours</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The <strong>AMG Plus sports package</strong> lends an even more sporty aura to the Coupé, Saloon and Estate. As additions to the AMG sports package it includes AMG 7-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, an AMG spoiler lip and sports seats in black ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA. Red seat belts and red contrasting topstitching on the steering wheel, seats, door centre panels, door armrests, centre console and shift lever gaiter add further sporty touches. The AMG Plus sports package is available for all engine versions.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>New colours make their mark</strong>: now available for Saloon and Estate models are polar white, diamond silver, dolomite brown and tenorite grey. New on the colour chart for the C-Class Coupé are polar white, diamond silver and designo magno platinum.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>New ECO display, driving assistance packages now cheaper</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>A new feature of the C-Class&#8217;s instrument cluster is an <strong>ECO display</strong>, which supports drivers in their efforts to save fuel. Taking its cues from the ECO training used at Mercedes-Benz driving events, driving style is evaluated according to the categories of &#8220;moderate acceleration&#8221;, &#8220;steady driving style&#8221; and &#8220;coasting&#8221; (instead of braking) &#8211; the higher the calculated percentage figure, the more economical the driver&#8217;s style.</div>
<div>Thanks to a new generation of short-range radar sensors, Mercedes-Benz is now able to offer its <strong>Lane Tracking package</strong> separately and not only in conjunction with a navigation system.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>Improved connectivity, COMAND Online display now in silver grey</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>Numerous modifications have been made to the multimedia systems available for the C-Class. The COMAND Online display is now silver grey in both day and night mode. The <strong>Audio 20 and COMAND Online</strong> systems make it easier for Mercedes drivers to undertake the initial pairing of their mobile telephone with the car via Bluetooth<strong>®</strong>, and also allow the automatic and manual address book download from the mobile phone to be configured. Polish and Czech are now available as new languages for the head units.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The advantages of the new <strong>Media Interface</strong> include improvements in data transmission and display speed, plus compatibility with MP3 players from both Apple and other manufacturers. Audio playback from an iPod<strong>®</strong>/iPhone<strong>®</strong> is now digital. The display shows the artist, album title and cover for the track currently playing. Tracks can be searched for by key word or by voice control. If showing videos, a smartphone or MP3 player can be controlled through the head unit.</div>
<div>A new cradle allows the multimedia system direct access to the SIM card via Bluetooth®. This allows the telephone to go into standby mode, so reducing the drain on the battery.</div>
<p></p>
<div><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The E-Class</span></div>
<div><strong>More efficient and user-friendly than ever</strong></div>
<div>The <strong>E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition</strong> is quite simply one of the most economical cars in its segment. Thanks to a bundle of efficiency-boosting measures, including an Aerodynamics package, electric power steering (EPS), a longer final-drive ratio and size 205/55 R 16 tyres with low rolling resistance, this model emits just 119 g CO2/km – that&#8217;s 10 grams, or nearly eight percent, less than before. The E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition has an output of <strong>125 kW</strong> (170 hp) and is available with a 6-speed manual transmission only.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The new <strong>E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID</strong> is all set for its market launch with record efficiency values of 4.2 l diesel/100 km and 109 g CO2/km, accompanied by increased torque and power output. Its modular hybrid concept with lithium-ion battery does not impose any compromises on space and offers an impressive driving experience thanks to start/stop, recuperation, boost effect, all-electric driving and a &#8216;sailing&#8217; or coasting mode. The E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is the world&#8217;s most fuel-efficient model in the luxury segment.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, available in both Saloon and Estate versions, boasts truly impressive performance. Its 4-cylinder diesel engine generates <strong>150 kW</strong> (204 hp) of power and 500 Nm of torque. The diesel engine combines with an electric motor rated at 20 kW and 250 Nm to produce a harmonious overall concept.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>Upgraded appointments, new colours</strong><strong></strong></div>
<div>The <strong>&#8220;Elegance&#8221;</strong> model is fitted as standard with 17-inch light-alloy wheels. From June, even the standard version of the <strong>Estate</strong> model will feature roof rails in polished aluminium to match the window frame trim. <strong>&#8220;Nappa leather&#8221;</strong> (seats, centre armrest, doors and gathered door centre panels) can be specified separately as an optional extra. The <strong>Exterior Sports package </strong>for the E-Class also includes AMG bodystyling elements for the front and rear aprons as well as the side sill panels. In terms of paint finishes, polar white replaces calcite white, while diamond silver takes over from indigolite blue.</div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>COMAND Online with internet access, new cost-effective navigation system</strong></div>
<div>Larger displays, new functions and internet access for the first time are among the main innovations of the new telematics generation from Mercedes-Benz, which will be available for the E-Class from June 2012. The Bluetooth<strong>®</strong> functions have also been extended: the mobile’s phone book can now be transferred automatically en bloc when connected, and incoming SMS messages can be displayed on the colour screen. Standard features include the Audio 20 CD system with twin tuner and CD player, as well as an Aux-in socket and a USB port. Both connection points are located within easy reach in a compartment in the centre armrest.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The <strong>COMAND Online</strong>multimedia system offers internet access. Customers can either surf the web as they wish while the car is stationary or call up a Mercedes-Benz app whose particularly fast page loading and simple operation make it suitable for use while driving. As well as offering innovative apps such as Google Local Search including Google Street View and Panoramio, Mercedes-Benz is the first manufacturer to offer the facility to download a route with related Points of Interest, which has previously been configured on a PC using Google Maps, and to transmit it to the car.</div>
<div>The <strong>Becker® MAP PILOT</strong> makes a low-cost navigation function, which is also suitable for retrofitting, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the central controls, voice output via the vehicle&#8217;s loudspeakers and display on the Audio 20 screen, a concealed location in the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.</div>
<div><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The SLK</span></div>
<p></p>
<div><strong>All the fun of the Roadster, now with added safety</strong></div>
<div>Fun at the wheel and unalloyed open-air enjoyment are just two of the fascinating qualities that characterise the Mercedes-Benz SLK. As we head into spring, the Roadster is now available with a significantly extended range of safety equipment, so once again setting the benchmark in its class. Along with DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS and PRE-SAFE<strong>®</strong>Brake, the Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist systems are now, with immediate effect, also available as part of the new Driving Assistance package. Another optional extra, the Intelligent Light System, has now been further developed to include Adaptive Highbeam Assist. Adding to the enjoyment of driving the SLK 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the standard-fit 6-speed manual transmission with sportily short shift travel, as already used in the 4-cylinder petrol-engine models.</div>
<p></p>
<div>The COMAND Online multimedia system now offers various enhanced as well as some new functions, among them the emergency call system Mercedes eCall, an optional travel guide and additional functions for the LINGUATRONIC voice control system. Further new features include an ECO display in the instrument cluster, helping the driver to drive as economically as possible, and new 17-inch light-alloy wheels in a sporty 10-spoke design.</div>

<p>Daimler AG has made an excellent start to the year 2012. &#8220;Our company is on the way to its best form, but is not there yet. We are confident we can do more, and that also applies to our share price,&#8221; said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, according to the text of his speech to the expected 5,800 shareholders at the International Congress Center (ICC) in Berlin.</p>
<p>In the first three months of the year 2012, the Group once again sold more vehicles than in the same period of last year. Unit sales by <strong>Mercedes-Benz Cars</strong> in the period of January through March increased by 12% to more than 340,000 units compared with the prior-year period. The division thus achieved its best-ever first quarter and its best-ever monthly unit sales in March. The growth drivers since January have been the C-Class models (plus 27%), the S-Class (plus 18%) and the SUV segment (plus 8%). There was also strong demand for the new B-Class, the first of five cars in the new compact range, with orders received for over 100,000 units to date. Although the B-Class is so far only available inEurope, more than 35,000 cars have already been delivered to customers. In September, the new A-Class will be launched, the second car of the new compact car portfolio.</p>
<p>Global car markets should grow by 4% this year. &#8220;At Mercedes, we&#8217;re on a roll, and we want to beat that,&#8221; said Zetsche and affirmed the unit-sales forecast for Mercedes-Benz Cars. The division assumes that this year it will surpass the unit-sales record it set in 2011.</p>
<p>The <strong>Daimler Trucks</strong> division was also very successful with its strong product portfolio; according to preliminary figures, it sold about 107,000 vehicles from January through March of this year (plus 20%). A major contribution came from Daimler Trucks North America with growth of 41%. Fuso also continued its positive development in Japan, while unit sales in Europe and Latin America decreased by 5%.</p>
<p>From today&#8217;s perspective, the division anticipates further growth in unit sales in 2012. In any case, the new Actros is likely to gain market share in the euro zone. The opening of a new plant in Chennai, Indiain the next few days will be an important step towards conquering new sales markets. As of the third quarter, trucks will be produced specifically for the Indian market under the &#8220;BharatBenz&#8221; brand.</p>
<p>The <strong>Mercedes-Benz Vans</strong> division&#8217;s core markets developed as follows in the first three months of the year: Unit sales increased by 23% in North America and by 10% in Latin America, despite the upcoming model change for the Sprinter in the latter market. In Europe, however, unit sales decreased by 8%. The division is nonetheless confident for the full year that it will maintain the level of unit sales in the euro zone that it achieved in 2011. As of September, sales will be stimulated by the new Citan city van, following its debut at Germany&#8217;s IAA international motor show for commercial vehicles in that month. This new small van targets a segment with a total volume of about 700,000 vehicles per annum, of which Mercedes-Benz Vans intends to take a market share of 4 to 5%.</p>
<p><strong>Daimler Buses</strong> sold about 5,000 units in the first quarter, lower than the prior-year number. According to preliminary figures, <strong>Daimler Financial Services</strong> smoothly continued its business development of 2011 and increased its new business to euro 8.2 billion in the first quarter of this year. The division&#8217;s contract volume remained at a record level.</p>
<p>Based on the divisions&#8217; development, Zetsche affirmed the forecasts for 2012: The <strong>Group</strong> expects its total unit sales to increase again significantly along with further revenue growth. The target for EBIT from the ongoing business is the high level of the prior year<br />
(2011: euro 9.0 billion).</p>
<p><strong>Achieving sustained growth through innovation</strong></p>
<p>The motto of this year&#8217;s Annual Shareholders&#8217; Meeting, &#8220;Growth and Innovation,&#8221; brings together two topics of fundamental importance for the future of the Daimler Group. By 2020, the annual global vehicle market should have growth by approximately 40 million to about 120 million units. &#8220;The question is not whether this growth will take place, but how it can be made sustainable,&#8221; said Zetsche. He believes that innovation has the potential to convert growth into prosperity. &#8220;Where that occurs, growth will be ecologically compatible and productive for both society and the economy,&#8221; explained Zetsche.</p>
<p>The Daimler Group is at the forefront with both of these topics, and has a first-class starting point for sustained innovation and profitable growth. With the Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy, the Mercedes-Benz brand aims to reclaim its position as the leading manufacturer of premium automobiles also in terms of unit sales. Daimler Trucks intends to defend its first place with its Global Excellence strategy. And the other divisions have similar plans to defend or take over the top position.</p>
<p>In 2012 and 2013 alone, the Group will invest euro 10.9 billion in <strong>research and development</strong> and euro 10.6 billion in property, plant and equipment. Daimler will extend its leading role with green technologies. Some examples are the further development of the automobile into a zero-emission vehicle and the digital networking of automobiles to control traffic and reduce congestion.</p>
<p>With internal-combustion engines, the CO2 emissions of Mercedes-Benz Cars&#8217; fleet has been reduced within two vehicle generations by 35% to an average of 150 grams per kilometer. A fleet average of 125 g/km is to be achieved by 2016.</p>
<p>Mercedes-Benz already sells the world&#8217;s most economical full-size sedan: the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid with consumption of 4.2 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. Starting this summer, the Daimler Group will be the first premium manufacturer to supply an electric car for all: the e-smart.</p>
<p><strong>Affirmation of medium-term goals</strong></p>
<p>At the event in Berlin, Zetsche affirmed Daimler&#8217;s medium-term targets for unit sales and earnings: In the year 2015, more than 1.6 million Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, over half a million trucks, more than 400,000 vans and approximately 42,000 buses are to be sold.</p>
<p>As of the year 2013, Daimler aims to achieve an average return on sales in its automotive business of 9%. The targets for the divisions are a return on sales of 10% for Mercedes-Benz Cars, 8% for Daimler Trucks, 9% for Mercedes-Benz Vans and 6% for Daimler Buses, and a return on equity of 17% for Daimler Financial Services. Mercedes-Benz Vans and Daimler Financial Services already achieved or surpassed their targets in 2011.</p>
<p><strong>Record year 2011 and a high dividend</strong></p>
<p>Daimler had presented its figures for the year 2011 in February. In its jubilee year, the Group set records for unit sales, revenue, EBIT and net profit. Worldwide, 2.1 million vehicles were sold and total revenue increased by 9% to euro 106.5 billion (2010: euro 97.8 billion). Group EBIT amounted to euro 8.8 billion(2010: euro 7.3 billion) and the Group&#8217;s EBIT from the ongoing business was euro 9.0 billion (2010: euro 7.2 billion). Net profit increased to euro 6.0 billion (2010: euro 4.7 billion).</p>
<p>In view of the very positive business development, the Board of Management and the Supervisory Board proposed the distribution of a dividend of euro 2.20 per share at today&#8217;s Annual Shareholders&#8217; Meeting. This constitutes a total payout of almost euro 2.3 billion and a dividend ratio of about 40% in relation to the Group&#8217;s net profit. The dividend for the year 2011 is one of the highest in Daimler&#8217;s history.</p>
