Below is part of the song I Refuse by Josh Wilson. When we first heard the song it resonated deep within our souls. This is our heart:

I can hear the least of these, crying out so desperately

And I know we are the hands and feet of You, oh God

So if You say move, it’s time for me to follow through

And do what I was made to do

And show them who You are…

I don’t want to live like I don’t care

I don’t want to say another empty prayer

Oh, I refuse to sit around and wait for someone else

To do what God has called me to do myself

I could choose not to move

But I refuse.

Sometimes the orphan crisis overwhelms us. However, God has graciously planted within us a passion to care for orphans in their distress (see James 1:27)…so while we can’t do everything, we refuse to do nothing.

In pursuit of His call,

The Father to the fatherless never ceases to amaze me. He is leading us into a new adoption journey…and it promises to indeed be a great adventure! Abba has placed deep within our hearts a desire to pursue adopting a most precious sibling group of four young children from Taiwan – two girls and two boys ranging in age from 5 years old to 2 years old. Yes, you read that correctly…5, 4, 3, 2. And yes, Zeke is 1. Crazy…yep. But we learned long ago when God asks you to follow Him, it’s best to follow Him and there’s truly no better place to be.

We know it’s God because everything about this is so beyond us! First, it will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $35,000 to $40,000. Don’t know about you, but we don’t happen to have that kind of money just sitting around in the bank account (or stashed under a mattress, for that matter). And though it’s not all paid at once, these children are identified waiting children, so we need to have the money over the next six to nine months. For Zeke’s adoption we planned, prepared, and saved. However, God surprised us this time…probably to see if we would trust Him to be our Jehovah Jireh. We have no choice; He’ll have to show up! We already have one fundraiser set up and are planning several others. We’ve cut and squeezed our budget. We’re also humbly asking family and friends to consider donating. We’re doing what we can do and trusting the Lord to do what only He can do; for God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we can even imagine (thank you Lauren for that reminder).

Second, having five young kiddos ages 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 is no small undertaking! Add on top of that the fact that four of them have spent the greater part of their little lives in an orphanage…this is not something to be taken lightly. Oh, but God places the lonely in families (see Psalm 68:6) and we are humbled that He would choose our family to place these lonely little ones in.

Being the type of program these children are in, our family still has to be “matched” with this sibling group. Even if, for some strange reason, we are not matched with them, we KNOW God has called us to pursue them. We desperately need your prayers for God’s guidance and provision as we embark on this new great adventure!

In pursuit of His call,
