The Family Room

"I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

When my daughters were young, we had a daily ritual after school. They
dropped their backpacks near my feet and I looked through the contents, marveling at their successes, talking through their problems. Most days were filled
with "Guess what . . ." or "You know what happened . . ." But other days they
carried home emotional burdens heavier than any backpack. "Nobody likes
me . . ." "My friend didn't wait to walk home with me . . ." And through tears
and shaky sighs, they turned over their burdens, knowing that I love them.

But some days, my own heavy heart made it difficult for me to pick up their
load too. So I called out the name of the one who bore the weight of the world
through his death on the cross. He invites me to pass my load to him, the only
one who can claim, "The burden stops here."

JOURNAL: List the items you are currently lugging around in the backpack of
your life. Let Jesus unpack the load and give you rest.

How happy to have parents who pick up their children's load from their school backpacks. Not all of kids have good parents who take care like this.

We always need a parent who unpacks our daily burden and gives us rest. Though as we are getting groun up, getting older, it is difficult to ask our parents to do the same thing as we were kids and now we are enough matured to know they also have their own burden...

How happy we are! How happy to have father up there, always alive and never get age. We can let him unpack our back and he gives us rest through our prayer.

I don't list up my private baggage here, I just write that every night I sleep a peaceful sound sleep. Unloaded every package of tears or fears or cares ; )

God the Gardener

"My Father . . . cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,
while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes
so that it will be even more fruitful."

John 15:1 - 2

I watched a man pruning a small vineyard not long ago. At first, what he was
doing looked cruel. He was cutting away all the dead wood and even slicing
back into the living wood. His vineyard looked like a platoon of bleeding
stumps. When I asked him why he cut the branches back so far, he said, "If I
don't, I get a lot of leaves on these vines but very little fruit." Without regular,
rigorous pruning, the vine becomes worthless.

I thought about the man's words when I read John 15. God the Father
brings the pruning knife into our lives not to harm us but to make us more
productive. He cuts and removes - and it hurts! But the result is more fruit,
more Christlikeness.

JOURNAL: Think of a painful or difficult experience you have been through. In
what ways did God use that experience to make you more like Jesus?

My life has been like a roller coster, ups and downs, and my 30s are like dropping down on the waterfall. And at the last moment, just before crashed, I met Jesus.

I've thought that the life is cruel. Even now, sometimes I think if I had met him much earlier, my life would be much more different.

God prepares for me the best moment to meet him, so thirsty that I say from my heat, Sir give me that water to will never thirsty again!

Got baptized, sometimes I feel in the church I am a wildberry just put in the God's garden, an outsider. Between much younger people who works with full of energy for the church and people in the same generation who have keep in touch with God's family and run, themselves, a Christian home. I am still that old FOOL card in the Tarot Deck even in the church?

Every wound I've got in my life still hurts. But sometimes in church I can help some friends who are in the trouble. Almost all wounds they get, they can easily find the same traces in me. I'm like an example how the Evil works in one person by many way and how God loves that very person.

I know it is not only me. There are lots of wildberries in our church. Each one works using their old wounds as a gift. Everyone's gift is different. Not just skill of playing music or any other splendid skill is not a gift.

My gift is old traces of wounds. I'm not nothing in church.

Increased Enough

"Little by little I will drive [the Canaanites] out before you,
until you have increased enough to take possession of the land."

Exodus 23:30

Exodus 23:28 - 30 focused a beam of God's light into my heart during one of
the most discouraging times in my life as a Christian. I felt defeated and fraudulent. I was lost, confused and full of self - doubt. I felt like I was losing ground in my journey with Jesus.

This passage, read afresh in my heart by the very voice of God's Spirit, told
me differently. I had actually come to this recognition of sin because I was finally mature enough to deal with it. At this time, I had "increased enough" to
possess the promise on the other side. I began to look at this opportunity for
repentance in a new way. Little by little God was making me right, driving out
sin. Recognizing the need for repentance was not a sign of losing ground, but
of maturing faith.

REFLECT: How can repentance in your life become an occasion for joy?

Recognizing ourselves as a sinner, feeling the need of repentance, I think it's just the first step to the forty years journey in the desert.

Before us, nothing is there but the hot and dry wilderness.

Since I made up my mind to try tracking Jesus seriously, I've lost many things, my favorite music and novels, my favorite pubs and streets, all my favorite things have lost their colors. I felt I was living a monotonous world.

But God prepares for me manna, sometimes I want to eat more spicy food, actually I try sometimes, though everytime I ate, I don't feel happy, that's a repentance, I think.

I'm in the middle of journy. If it takes really forty years, I might not see the promiced land in this world.

Everytime I feel repentance, I feel at the same time the grace and love, that make me try to live a good life, good in the eyes of the Lord.

Can I make it? I hope. And this hope drives me forward.

KJV Bible Audiobook: Cool iPhone app for your first KJV

My English is not so good as you see in my posts tons of grammatical errors and misspelled words.
KJV is too difficult for me. I always use Good News Translation.
But, I guess, if you are a speaker of English as your second or third language, you may say, Ah if I could KJV!
So this app is for you!

You can listen to the scriptures read in natural speed and the text moves keep up with audio.

I don't have any knowledge of old English grammar and spelling. But to keep reading and listening at the same time, I SEE the scriptures! And if you keep using this app everyday, you will get used to KJV little by little.

And this app is free.

The God Who Recycles

He who was seated on the throne said,
"I am making everything new!"

Revelation 21:5

Every Wednesday morning, I take trash cans and recycling bins out to the
curb. I feel like I'm purging my home of all its impurities, and I come away
feeling cleansed.

There's a lot of garbage in our lives. I'm grateful that God will take away my
trash if only I am willing to bring it to him. He forgives my sins, no questions
asked, and the trash is taken away as far as the east is from the west.

But I'm even more excited about the recycling. It's somehow thrilling to
think about cans, bottles, cereal boxes and newspapers being remade and finding new use. God is the Great Recycler. There are times when I feel used up
and worn out. I feel useless, like I'm good for nothing. But God can renew me
and restore me and use me for service in surprising ways.

PRAY: Spend some time in confession the next time you take out the garbage. And
when you take out the recycling, give thanks for the opportunity to begin again.

The Hall Closet

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life,
to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires.
Ephesians 4:22

After spending a decade pursuing "deceitful desires," I realized I was the one
who was truly deceived, for nothing brings more pleasure than knowing Jesus.
Opening my heart to Christ was the first step, the most important step - but
hardly the last step. Putting aside my "old self" for good meant facing those
things I'd simply put aside for years.

I had taken one sin in particular and tucked it away for safekeeping, like a
child clings to a tattered old blanket to comfort him. Many people might not
even call it "sin" - only "weakness" or "habit." But I knew it for what it was.

When Jesus brought this sin to my attention, I realized I could not empty
that dark closet out myself. And I knew that Jesus could, and would. Indeed
he did. For he is the lover of my soul and the cleaning service of my heart.

PRAY: Lord Jesus, I give you the key to my closet door knowing the contents can
no longer hurt me when they're gone.

Since I've got baptized, people always say, "Don't be so hasty." God has begun his good work in me and that works in me day by day, litttle by little, step by step, I can't skip any steps that he prepares for me to go up faster than he expects it.

It is a life long journy. Now, I am thirty eight years old. I think it is time to prepare for my "Later Works." I don't talk here some great works you can meet at libraries or museums.

Everyone's biography is a master piece of God. Sometimes we see someone's biography without epilogue, just has ended by typing "to be continued."

I think it's OK.

I have opened my own closet door in me by the key he gave me. I try to keep contents fresh, well arranged, good in his eyes.

When my closet door was closed, noboby knows where it is.

I think it is OK too.

Casting Crowns said,

This time, I didn't register as a sponsor, though it is important work to support a child living in the poverty. I paused my daily morning devotional and I am writing this post. It is more important to think about this matter than learning scriptures of Psalm 1. I think it is a suggestion by God.

Grandma is not fine today. So for lunch, I have to make something not heavy for her stomach. Okaku? Yuck. She hates that. Me neither.

Japanese Okayu, rice gruel, is not the same as you enjoy at a Chinese restaurant. Just imagine, can you eat oatmeal boiled in plain hot water?

OK. I'll try.

I made a special soup and cooked Okayu in it. As always praying.

Grandma was happy. God blesses my kitchen. Mom enjoyed the lunch too, though she is like, Gradma will never eat Okayu at the care center or at the hospital and she won't eat my Okayu!

Oh well, I have to take everyone to meet our God at church.

I found a funny app, Bible Art.
You can see your favorite painting and vereses that inspired the famous artists. But to see them, you have to solve a puzzle!

I really love this app. I don't know so much about painting. So I don't know the answers. Every time I try one of it, it's really an experience to discover a new biblical wonder world.

Sweet Dreams

At this I awoke and looked around.
My sleep had been pleasant to me.
Jeremiah 31:26

Jeremiah apparently slept well despite spending many of his waking hours
deeply traumatized. The weeping prophet could not weep while he was
asleep. This troubled man could not worry while he was unconscious. He may
even have learned to sleep briefly in the stocks or to catch forty winks in the
pit. For a brief period he was totally vulnerable, utterly oblivious and perfectly
safe. For he had learned, "He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed,
he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep" (Psalm 121:3 - 4).
Jeremiah woke up pleasantly refreshed, ready to look around and see what the
day would bring forth.

With Christ in my heart, I too can sleep safely in God's care, being strength - ened by his grace, unconsciously preparing to meet another day.

REFLECT: For a third of your life you're unconscious. How can you spend it
sweetly trusting?

Putting My Soul to Bed

"Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

Luke 23:46

Each night before we fall asleep we should prepare our souls to meet God.
We should tuck away the cares and concerns of the day and, like Christ, relinquish the failures and successes, the frustrations and delights of each day into
God's hands. I have noticed that when I put my soul to bed each night (in con - trast to watching movies, reading secular books or just flopping down ex - hausted) my rest is more tranquil.

Learn the practice of putting your soul to bed with God. Try using a night - time prayer such as this one from The Book of Common Prayer:

Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and
give Your angels and saints charge over those who sleep. Tend Your sick
ones, O Lord Christ. Rest Your weary ones. Bless Your dying ones.
Soothe Your suffering ones. Shield Your joyous ones, and all for Your
love's sake. Amen.

ACT: Put your soul to bed with God, starting tonight.

Suffering from tonic pain, I can't say my sleep has been peaceful lately.

When I read these articles which I quote in my post everyday, I feel like it's a private message sent directlly from God.

I'm think about to get some therapy at a pain clinic.

Though before anything I try to keep good relationship with God. Not need to do something special, just praying, reading Bible, just simple trust and love our Father up there.

Rest First

It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:2 RSV

Hebrew scholars tell us that the Jewish day began at sundown. The creation
story says that when God made the world "there was evening, and there was
morning - the first day" (Genesis 1:5). In God's mind, then, the day begins
with the evening, with rest. In the twenty - first century, we have lost the
rhythm of rest first, work second.

Psalm 127:2 reminds us that God gives to us when we are asleep. Sleep is
a reminder that we are not in control. It is evidence that our value is not only
in our work. God values the fruit of the Spirit in our lives more than our productivity, and sleep is a message of grace. God does not want us to eat "the
bread of anxious toil." God invites us to rest in grace.

REFLECT: As you crawl into bed tonight, remember that you are beginning your
day. While you are asleep, God will be at work, in you and around the world.

My Answer:

I think I've got an answer. Or God has sent the same messages through the net. As I wrote in the previous posts, I haven't had a good sleep these days. I woke up two or three times every night. I go to the kitchen table to smoke a cigarette and have a short prayer. Sometimes I have a bit of devotional time and post my thought to this blog. And climb into the bed to try to sleep. It is not healthy.

God works in us while we are sleeping. It is no need to open your eyes to be a whitness. It seems while I do something in the midnight, he stops his regular works and waits until I go back to bed. He waits. It doesn't mean he does nothing for me. I can't understand his plans, though he tries to make me remind something important, the most important thing in my life. He doesn't expect my productivities, that is for sure. Maybe good relationship with him? And what should I do to get it.

The quality of sleeping? If we spend a really good day, we can get a peaceful sound sleep like a child who is tired for his happy fun lucky active day.

It is difficult to understand what this verse means. But out of the context of this chapter of Matthew's Gospel, I've learned that the Bible verses are weapons for Christians to battle, Our enemys are the inner/outer Evils in this world. A battle for the peace.

The Bed Is Too Short

"This is the resting place, let the weary rest";
and "This is the place of repose" - but they would not listen.
Isaiah 28:12

When a friend came to visit me, I gave her my bed while I curled up on my
small, hard couch. I was unable to fully stretch out and endured a fitful night.
I can't say I wasn't warned about short beds. When the Israelites refused to enter God's rest, they created their own pointless rules and lived hurried lives.
God compared such fitful living to poor sleeping conditions. "The bed is too
short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you" (Isaiah
28:20). I too battle the temptation to live fitfully. But a full schedule often
makes for an empty soul. Only when I take time to intentionally stretch out
and repose my hurried heart do I move from a cramped and cold religion to a
full and restful life.

PRAY: Lord, teach me to relax, to release stress, to return control to you. Revive
my weary soul.

I woke up too much earlier. Is somethig wrong. Something to worry? I have kind of tonic pains these days.

Let try, just lay myself on the bed, pray or imagine green grass field where I take a nap like a sheep beside Jesus.

Don't worry. He knows me and loves me and always keeps an eye on me even while I am sleeping.

We have to become a righteous, doing our best everyday. Though so far, I can't dare to say I am a good person nor I have my integrity.
I ask God to protect me, without your help, I can't protect myself from the Evil. And I pray, give me the goodness and integrity, for that I do my best, with all my faith, with all my love.
