The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is accepting applications for its Associate Fellowship program, a one-year training program for recent MLS graduates and librarians early in their career. The application deadline is February 3, 2012. Between 4 and 7 fellows will be selected for the program. Applications and additional information are available on the NLM web site.

The first half of the year of the Associate Fellowship includes a formal curriculum with exposure to library operations, research and development, intramural and extramural research, development and lifecycle of NLM’s web-based products and services, and the extensive outreach and education program for consumers, special populations, health professionals and librarians.

In the second half of the year, Associate Fellows have the opportunity to choose projects based on real-world problems proposed by library divisions and work with librarians and library staff over a six to seven month period. Successful projects have led to peer-review publications and to services that have become a regular part of library operations.

Eligibility:

All U.S. and Canadian citizens who will have earned a MLS or equivalent degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited school by August 2012 are eligible for the Associate Fellowship. Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies The overall aim of the Max Weber Programme (MWP), the largest postdoctoral training programme in the Social and Human Sciences in the world, is to support the fellows in the development of a successful academic career. The most important benefits of the programme lie in the professional schooling it offers fellows. To this end they are affiliated with one of the EUI teaching departments, where they participate in seminars and workshops.

Within the MWP, a broad variety of activities are organized for the fellows throughout the year with an individual focus on really developing to be internationally competitive. Arthur Koenig Fellowship - Established in 2010, the Arthur Koenig Fellowship is designed to help bring talented people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds into the human rights movement. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Fellows work full-time for one year with Human Rights Watch typically in New York or Washington, D.C., or in some instances in another location. Fellows monitor human rights developments in various countries, conduct on-site investigations, draft reports on human rights conditions, and engage in advocacy and media outreach aimed at publicizing and curtailing human rights violations. Past fellows have conducted research and advocacy on numerous different issues in countries all over the world. Recent examples include projects on: civil and political rights in Cuba; criminal defamation laws in Indonesia; the rights of persons with mental disabilities in Croatia; corporal punishment of children in public schools in the US; abuses against migrant domestic workers in Kuwait; and police brutality in Brazil.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in international human rights and be committed to building a career in human rights. Research experience, including experience conducting interviews, ideally in the context of human rights research, is required. Field experience in human rights is strongly desirable. Applicants must have exceptional analytic skills and excellent oral and written communications skills in English. Proficiency in one language in addition to English is strongly desired as is familiarity with countries or regions where serious human rights violations occur.

Applicants should be highly motivated and well-organized; able to work quickly and well under pressure, both independently and as a member of a team; juggle multiple tasks; and meet tight deadlines. The Fellowship year will require creativity, initiative, perseverance, and flexibility while maintaining HRW's high methodological standards.

Depending on the fellowship for which they wish to apply, prospective fellows must be recent graduates of law, journalism, international relations, or other relevant studies, or must provide evidence of significant, comparable, relevant work experience. Endoscopic CHOTs for on-wing NDE of aerospace components

Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates or final year students for a fully sponsored PhD studentship within the Applied Optics Group at University of Nottingham, United Kingdom , in conjunction with Rolls-Royce PLC. This studentship is available from 1 October 2011 to qualifying students for a period of three years PhD programme and will cover full university fees and a tax-free stipend (circa £1100/month).

The studentship is available in the following research area:

Endoscopic CHOTs for on-wing NDE aerospace components.

This project aims to develop an endoscopic CHOTs system for on wing inspection of aero-engine components, notably turbine blades. CHOTs are small ultrasonic transducers which may be placed permanently on the component for through life interrogation of components for cracks and defects that may arise in service. CHOTs are activated and read optically using laser beams and usually require line of sight in order to be read. This is an exciting PhD project that has a unique combination of academic and industrial challenges which will enhance the student’s ability to tackle complex intellectual and practical aspects of NDE and real life applications.

Students must at least the equivalent of a UK first class honours degree, in science, engineering or related discipline. Undergraduate students completing their studies in June/July 2011 with appropriate predictions of the academics results are eligible to apply. They should have or be willing to rapidly develop in-depth knowledge in laser ultrasonics and non destructive testing and evaluation. The candidate has to be proficient in both written and spoken English, possess excellent presentation and communication skills and be capable to write reports (to sponsors) and academic papers.

Europe:Erasmus Mundus (AgTraIn) Scholarship

Agricultural Transformation by Innovation (AgTraIn) is a three-year world-class Joint Doctoral Programme (180 ECTS). AgTraIn is part of the Erasmus Mundus programme initiated by the European Commission to enhance and promote European higher education throughout the world. The language of the programme is English. AgTraIn has a policy of equal opportunities for men and women and people with special needs.

The AgTraIn Objective and Focus

The main objective of the AgTraIn programme is to develop an elite European school within the topic of successful development and transformation of farming systems in the developing world. Thematically, the AgTraIn programme deals with agricultural production chains, the natural resource base and the involved communities. The scope of AgTraIn will range from the technical aspects of agricultural production, over post-harvest management, processing and value-addition, to market access and commercialisation. A key feature of the programme is the involvement of key stakeholders in identifying research questions and participating in project formulation. The emphasis is on applied research.

The AgTraIn Consortium

The AgTraIn programme provides you with a single entry-point access to top-level and up-to-date research on agricultural transformation within the scientific fields of the programme. The programme is jointly developed and delivered by a six-university consortium consisting of

Category A and B Fellowships

Two different Erasmus Mundus Doctorate fellowships can be awarded to doctoral candidates:

Category A fellowships can be awarded to doctoral candidates from all countries other than the 27 EU member states, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein, Switzerland), the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), and Turkey. Furthermore, the doctoral candidate must not be resident nor have carried out her/his main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries. The only exception to this rule applies to third-country candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an EMMC.

Category B fellowships can be awarded to any doctorate candidate who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.

Fellowships

Category A and B fellowships are identical except that the first are eligible to receive €7500 for travel and the latter €3000. Each fellowship is made up of two additional components: operational funds and salary/stipend. Operational funding ranges from €10,800 to €21,600 depending on type of study, while salary (doctoral candidate employed) is €100,800, and stipends (doctoral candidate legally treated as a student) is €50,400. Please note:

* The fellowships are awarded exclusively for full-time enrollment
* Third-Country doctoral candidates, who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship, can be awarded a Category A fellowship
* Doctoral candidates benefiting for an EMJD fellowship cannot benefit from other Community grants while carrying out their Erasmus Mundus doctoral activities
*

For Category B fellowship holders, the AgTraIn universities in the mobility track must not be located in the country in which the doctoral candidate has obtained his/her last university degree
* You can only apply to maximum three Erasmus Mundus Programmes

* English proficiency (min score IELTS 7.0 , TOEFL: Paper-based 600/IBT 100)
* Two academic references

Evaluation criteria
Eligible applications are evaluated by the AgTraIn Assessment Committee according to three main criteria:

* Academic potential as indicated by (i) a very good second university degree; (ii) a research synopsis that closely relates to one of the five research subjects announced in the call, and demonstrate insight and interest in the subject, (iii) documented research achievements, e.g. publications in international journals with peer review. This is the most important criterion
* English proficiency
* Academic references

Short-listing

Based on this, the best applicants are short-listed and invited to develop a full project proposal. Short-listed applicants will be informed by email. They are put in direct contact with the potential supervisors, who will assist the applicant in developing the full project proposal. Within a deadline of 5-6 weeks, the applicant submits the full proposal on a standard format to the AgTraIn Secretariat.

Interview

Each shortlisted applicant is invited, if recommended by their principal supervisor, to present their proposal before a Scientific Committee, consisting of at least two members of the AgTraIn Consortium Commission. Applicant costs are covered by the Consortium.

Start date

Selected doctoral candidates should expect to start their doctoral studies around 1 September 2012.

USA:The Raymond Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to an imaging science or engineering student(s) for use in continuing his/her studies at the graduate or under-graduate level. The scholarship is given for academic study or research in the theory or practice of imaging science.

Eligibility:

An applicant must be a graduate or under-graduate student who has completed two academic years of college before the term of the scholarship. The individual must be a full-time student pursuing work at an accredited institution, in accordance with the rules and regulations of that institution, toward the fulfillment requirements for an academic degree.

The acceptance of this scholarship does not preclude the acceptance of additional fellowships, assistant positions, scholarships, or similar awards. The Society may bypass the award if there is no candidate judged suitable by the committee. Both members and non-members are eligible.

UK:Keele University International Undergraduate Scholarship 2011

The Keele International Student Scholarship for undergraduate students is worth GBP2000 towards the cost of your annual tuition fees for the duration of your course. Students studying a three-year degree could therefore save GBP6000 from the total cost of your degree studies.

The Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate excellence in at least two of the following areas: Academic qualifications, English Language ability, Understanding of the course and motivation to study at Keele, Extra-curricular or work experience Please note that students studying the 5-year undergraduate degree in Medicine and the 4-year undergraduate degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this award. IRENA Scholarships for Master's Program From UAE Government

In an effort to promote talented academics, and with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, IRENA is awarding up to 20 scholarships at Abu Dhabi based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology. The Programme extends to the eight Master of Science Programmes offered at MASDAR Institute.

Applicants for IRENA’s Scholarship Programme, will be admitted in accordance to the academic

standards and regulations of Masdar Institute. Out of those who passed, IRENA will select the winning candidates in accordance with additional criteria that can be found on the following pages or on IRENA’s website.

IRENA MSc Scholars are required to join a renewable energy related research project for the duration of their scholarships. When taking up study, during orientation week, MASDAR Institute will inform all new students about the current research projects. Out of these projects IRENA scholars shall select a renewable energy related topic. Moreover, the final thesis shall be written on a renewable energy related topic as well.

IRENA MSc Scholarship Programme

During these two years Programmes, IRENA’s MSc scholars will work on a research project and

can select between the below listed MSc Programmes. The study is completed with a Master thesis. Research project and Master thesis shall be relevant to renewable energies. Programmes IRENA scholarships in 8 MSc Programmes available

Who can apply

Individuals with outstanding academic record who completed their undergraduate studies (or near completion) in a relevant fieldEligible students have to comply with entry requirements defined by the MASDAR Institute:

- Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology

- Academic record and credentials must indicate the ability to achieve

distinction

- The minimum CGPA required is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

- Competence in spoken and written English. The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. The TOEFL can only be waived for native English speakers. The minimum academic IELTS score required is 6.5.

- The minimum GRE quantitative score required is 700. There is no cut-off

score for the verbal and analytical part, but these scores are also important

and evaluated. The GRE exam cannot be waived.

- The ETS institutional GRE code for MASDAR Institute is 3870. Only the GRE general test is required. The ETS institutional TOEFL code for MASDAR Institute is 5786.

Besides the criteria applied through MASDAR Institute, IRENA will consider the following for the allocation of its MSc Scholarships:

Desired specialisation within the chosen MSc programme

Description of knowledge already acquired in the field of renewable energies and relevant previous professional engagements.

In case of equal aptitude, priority access will be given to applicants from Developing Countries.

UK:UEA International Student Scholarships 2011 at University of East Anglia

The University of East Anglia awards over £1,000,000 of scholarships each year to support international students in their studies. The awards are made by individual Schools of Study in the University. All international students (outside the European Union) are considered for a scholarship of between 10% and 50% of tuition fees.

In order to be considered for a UEA scholarship you do not need to make a separate application. Please indicate on your application for admission that you wish to be considered for a scholarship. It is important to make an application as early as possible because they are considered as they are received. So apply early to make sure of the best chance of success.

If you are granted a scholarship, you will be informed at the time you receive your offer of a place at UEA. Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit and are normally for the duration of the period of study – three years for Bachelor and PhD degrees and one year for Masters programmes. They are available from all Schools of Study and across most courses of study. Students of outstanding academic ability will also be considered for Faculty Scholarship Awards made by the Dean of Faculty, usually in April or May each year. These are highly competitive and prestigious award.

Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships 2011

Top-class researchers from Third Countries are welcome to work on projects in Europe. This helps to develop research cooperation between Europe and other parts of the world – to everybody’s benefit.
Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships are specially designed to encourage these moves.

Who can apply?

Researchers of any nationality active or recently active in Third Countries are eligible for an IIF. That means countries that are neither EU Member States nor Associated Countries. To apply, you must have either a doctoral degree or at least 4 years’ full-time equivalent research experience, after obtaining a degree permitting you to embark on a doctorate. But that is the minimum. The more experience you have, the better will be your chances of being accepted for this action.

Your application for an IIF should be made in liaison with the organisation or institution that would be willing to host you in Europe. Host organisations can be universities, research centres or companies.

What does the funding cover?

IIF funding is provided for a research project which will transfer knowledge into your host organisation and building or enhancing collaborations between Europe and the rest of the world. The research project will also allow you to advance your career. Financial support is provided for 12-24 months (full-time equivalent).
Funding allows you to:
* join a European research team that doesn’t have your experience
* establish a collaboration through a research project with your lab or your country
* gain new knowledge in a European lab.
Your IIF may also cover a return phase of up to one year. This will be spent back in your country of origin, applying the experience that you have gained. To qualify for a return phase, you must be from one of the International Cooperation Partner Countries. If you want a return phase, you must include details of it in your initial application. And you must specify the potential return host organization in your country of origin
Which topics can be funded?
All areas of scientific and technological research that are of interest to the EU may be eligible for IIF funding. But there is one exception: research areas covered by the EURATOM Treaty cannot be funded.
