      <title>Imaginative Traveller</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/WDWyKSyBUZQ/imaginative-traveller.html</link>
<description>Has anyone taken a trip with Imaginative Traveller I picked up a brochure at TravelCuts on my walk home the other night The trips look interesting and reasonably priced And their groups are reasonably sized 15 or so Since we have never taken a group tour small size is very appealing to me httpwwwimaginativetravellercomComments I am particularly interested in the Middle East and archaeology Reply: Hi there I also took the Nile cruise on Imaginative Traveller in 2007 It was awesome I usually take trips on my own and just go with the flow but they offered the best of the best with amazing staff The boat was clean and fun the highlights we exactly that I am looking to use them again on my next trip as it is often easier for them to do all the planning Posted By: Reply: There are many interesting travel tips at wwwbudgetstayscom Check the site for it all Posted By: RPROYReply: I am going to Egypt in April and I looked at the Imaginative Traveler website thanks for including it I looked at their Nile trip I am taking practically the very same trip with GATE 1 who I like but Im going on a big bus of 40 people and Im paying US500 more I am assuming the IT trip includes airfareI didnt go over all the details I far prefer small groups Actually I dont like going with groups but Egypt is a place I dont think I want to navigate on my own as a single woman So this looks like a big value Posted By: Reply: Dont feel too badly since airfare to and from the trip is NOT included There is a form for help finding flights httpwwwimaginativetravellercomflightrequest They may have better prices but a quick check with Expedia a KLM flight from Los Angeles to Cairo is 1300 return Posted By: Reply: Sorry to be brief as I am racing out the door to work I took Imaginative Travellers Nile Safari trip in November 2007 and based on that trip would highly recommend them I first started researching my Egypt trip back in 2004 and they were my choice back then as well I liked the smaller group size they hit all my mustsees and at the time they had a fabulous web travel forum where you could ask questions and travellers and staff would answer The travel forum is now abysmal IMO but the trip was fabulous Not only was the small group size great but they have their own little Nile cruise boat which to me seemed a perfect size Plus they make a point of getting up early to see a lot of thing it means early wake up calls but it also means you get to have the best quality experience at so many attractions because you beat the heat and the crowds And the crowds were horrendous at times I am not claustrophobic but felt quite suffocated when trapped in a room at the Temple of Horus in the midst of an incoming tour bus load I paid the single supplement so had the hotel room 1 night my additional before and after nights overnight train 1 night CairoLuxor 1 night AswanCairo and the nights on the boat all to myself Highly recommended Particularly on the boat Had some hiccups with the representative staff in Sydney but got it all sorted If you have any more Qs fire away and I will reread your post when I get home in case I didnt answer something Posted By:

      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/tqpT7dahtZA/culture-shock.html</link>
<description>Lindas post made me think One of her suggested questions was ampquotWould you like to live permanantly in another countryampquot I lived in Japan for 3 years The first 6 months were quite tough Here is my question for you1 Where are you from2 How would you help someone new adapt to your countryHave a great weekend Reply: According to the study the most important tool for small couldnt have come at a more timely moment for me My daughter soninlaw amp 2 of my grandchildren are emigrating to Australia this fall Since I have had a notsoprivate love affair with Oz for many years this isnt a surprise In fact my son daughterinlaw amp third grandchild had always thought we all would emigrate in another few years together He amp I have owned a holiday home in Cairns for almost 10 years so my daughter has just advanced the timeline a bit As luck would have it my daughter has asked me to come along with them amp I can stay from 3 to 6 months at a time commuting as it were between Oregon amp Oz So I have quit my job amp am helping them get ready to go so much is involved getting rid of stuff selling their house finding jobs amp community downunder finding the right school for the kids Oh my what a list It isnt exactly stepping into the void since we feel very comfortable there already but I know there will be moments when I will have to take deep breaths My daughter was sponsored by the government of New South Wales so they will have to live amp work in that state for at least 2 years The immigrant visa process was long for them about 8 months amp involved health checksbackground checks tons of paper work amp patience They applied in November 07 amp received their immigrant visas in July 08 no surprise since the fiscal year in Oz is July 1 June 30 amp the new immigrant quotas tend to fill before December every year My grandchildren will start school here but well be down there for some weeks before they begin their Oz experience so I will home school them to make sure they arent behind Itll be hard enough to jump into a new school no sense in having them feel behind as well Now were at the quotlast timequot point the last time well go to the Oregon coast to pick huckleberries the last time well all camp at Waldo Lake together the last time Its deadly amp I hadnt counted on that emotional component I know that families live oceans apart amp have since the first wanderer went on his way but for my closeknit little family its been the hard part Adventure is great tho so Im very pleased theyve decided to have one And the best part is that I get to tag along Posted By: Reply: I left Oregon after 42 years and moved to Rochester NY threeampnbsp years ago and that was enough culture shock for me Just seeing the mention of huckleberries and Waldo Lake makes me want to take a trip home And especially seeing that youre from Eugene since thats where I spent my last 16 years It is very emotional but there are a lot of things I love about my new area as well and lots of new things to see Posted By: Reply: Just to add to your Oregonian emotional highs and lows in 2007 I drove my 91 year old dad through the back roads on the old Territorial Highway near Cottage Grove to Eugene where we bought a propane stove so he could survive the downed power lines when trees overly burdened with a winter snowfall would come crashing down snapping the power lines on his 5 acres We stopped at the King Estate winery and had a tour capped off by a lively discussion with winemaster John about the high cost of oak barrels from France Posted By: Reply: I am finding this thread very interesting as I have found a few places to be a bit of a shock I have traveled to 71 countries thus far I think my first trip to Istanbul back 20 years ago was a bit of a culture shock I was surprised to be pushed off in to the street because I am a woman blonde at that Nonetheless most people were simply charming and we loved the food Since that trip I have been to some very remote areas of India where there is no electricity or running water I am amazed at how the villagers cook awesome meals on low fire fueled cement quotstovesquot My first of more than 30 trips to China over 20 years ago had some real culture shockers I will never forget one factory owner in Chouzhou that I was working with insisting I go to his house to use the toilet He didnt want me using the ones at the factory which usually are a couple of spaced cement blocks with a half wall Most unenjoyable Anyway he drove me through a tiny road between the rice paddies up and up to the top of a hill to his home It was fascinating as it was a very old courtyard style home All the rooms open to a courtyard and the extended family live together Anyway he proudly ushered me to a back courtyard that had an awesome view of the rice paddies far below He proceeded to a small building at the back corner and opened a door Viola there was a western toilet The first I had seen in the countryside of China Only issue no plumbing It just sort of hung over the side of the steep hill Another toilet culture shock was at an Akha Hill Tribe we had gone to with our children Late in the evening I was wanting to make quota pit stopquot as it were The village women escorted me to a down slope of the hill Uhhuh that is the womens toilet Rooting pigs shoving you about Ill leave that to your imaginations I have had numerous culture shocks from armadillo served in the countryside of China to Varanasi on the Ganges The latter is total culture shockmuch like going back in time 500 years We have hosted numerous exchange students over the years and there are some fun stories We had a Vietnamese foster daughter and the stories of her culture shock are amazing What fun to teach her English and of this strange land where people sat on furniture instead of squatting Mai now is married and has two teenagersHopefully this post is not too graphic I have tried to not include the more unique culture shock moments Posted By: Reply: You did in fact add to the highs I lived just off ofampnbsp Territorial but closer to Junction City Fortunately it didnt snow much in our section of Oregon It was the icy weather that could get nasty Since moving to Rochester Ive actually had to learn to shovel driveways in the winter Cant say Im liking that part Posted By: Reply: This is my first message to the group Let me start with Lindas questions No I would not prefer living in another country My suggestion to the new habitant in in my county is to start with the simple ie giving info on the daily routines of different groups of people Providing a quick contact list Participating in gatherings Joining activities to meet new people and learn more on the habits and customs I would strongly recommend to be respectful to the countrys rules Sorry I have to go downstairs to remove my car We share the car place with 4 cars Posted By: Reply: A question to Adam regarding Japan could you please expand on your first six months of life in Japan I really want to learn more on adapting life in Japan I have been thinking about other ways to adapt to a new country as per my email before moving my car Title Extra ways of adapting to a new country Watching a native film would be of great help No matter what the language is Just being an observer of the audiences reactions to the parts of the film and the film itself would serve as a quick adaptation guide My experience dates back to Warsaw Poland Trying to get info about the cartoon characters comics Taking a chance to go through them My interest in drawing cartoons is the backgroundSpending time in the streets and observing different age groupsStatus of the elderly children teenagers Observing childrens behaviours would be a great clue In societies like ours mothers believe that their sons are one of a kind and each one is a king Many marriages suffer accordingly Also observing the eating habits of children Imagine them being fed by their mothers playfully The first barrier against being an individual All these details would be of great help in dealing with people in the business If you know how they are treated in their families you can be more flexible or creative Posted By: Reply: I have lived in 3 different countries other than my home of USA In two of them the culture was totally different than my own Even when we lived in England there was a little culture shock perhaps because I wasnt expecting there to be any at all My help would mostly come in the form of advice That would be that no matter where you end up living there are incredible wonderful things about the people the culture and the new and different scenery Those are the things to focus on Respect the culture of your new home and try to learn the language if you can That makes a huge difference Whatever you do try not to spend much if any focus on the negatives mostly because theyre different than what you grew up with and every society has them including our own Posted By: Reply: Im a Canadian who was an quotarmy bratquot ie child of an army officer who moved around a great deal as a kid Although that said I only lived in one different country the UK but I moved around all over Canada I was born in the far north the Yukon and lived in various place before my Dads last posting in Ottawa then moved to Montreal for the last part of high school and university As a kid even different parts of Canada were like different countries and it took awhile to adapt to their own different cultures and in Quebec different language As a grown up I lived in Calgary for 20 years then back to Ottawa and then off to Japan The few trips there before I went and lots of reading prepared me a bit for the culture shock but I also found that spending time with the people we worked with and asking lots of questions was key We found hiking gives you lots of time to talk and ask questions They love it when foreigners show an eagerness to learn about their country history culture etc If you can participating in the local festivals and there are lots of them there helps as well In both Japan and Hong Kong where I live now there are lots of expat associations or associations that focus on local history amp culture eg in HK theres the Royal Asiatic Society and many offer courses or have info on courses or meetings that provide information on cultural background of the country or various local cultural activities eg ikebana or tea ceremony courses in Japan Tai chi Chinese history in HK and these give a lot of insite into the people Travelling around the country and learning about the unique history and culture of those areas also helps and is really fun Of all the things that I would say is an absolute nono for expatriates in a country foreign to their homeland is constantly comparing their adopted country to their own I dont mean the occasional comparison that helps you learn more about the other country I mean the negative comment that implies that their home country is better because a particular personplacething isnt available in the other country orthey dont do it here like they do back home I know a few expatriates in HK who say things like that all the time and all I can say is quotwhy dont you just go back home if you feel like thatquot They dont realize how they look to the locals who still feel like their hosts especially in Japan Ive been in HK for 12 years now and it is quothomequot I love the mix of cultures Asian and Western and I love the vibrancy of the city I dont think Id still feel that way if I lived right within the major part of the city but I live out in the quotgreen sidequot with lovely hills to hike and tens of islands to explore with beautiful beaches soIvegot the best of both worlds My husband and I plan to spend at least the first few years of our retirement right here Posted By: Reply: I have just moved to Japan for a new job which brings the total number of countries I have lived in to four I think it is a wonderful experience to engage with new cultures but culture shock certainly can be an issue The number one piece of advice I can think of is to be aware of what culture shock is Knowledge about culture shock is a great way to recognize its effects and combat them Other than that I think of everythingeven some ordinary daily activitiesas an adventure and new experience Posted By: Reply: I spent almost two years in the UK years ago when I wasm first married Not very foreign perhaps but still very different It was in the early 70s when there were shortages and labour difficulties Although we share the same language and a similar culture there were still surprising differences People couldnt quite place me pigeonhole me And it seemed that the Brits wanted to do that Perhaps we do too here We were living in St Albans and I was commuting into the City Our treat was a play in London I think the cheapest seats were less than a movie We decided to return to Canada because of the dire economic outlook and housing problems but I would do it again I thought some might be interested in this website Country Insights Choose a country from the dropdown menu For most countries you can choose a cultural topic quotAnswers to your intercultural <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/4B6_-tytAf0/unlocking-cell-phones.html</link>
<description>Hi People talk about SIM cards and making sure your phone is unlocked My question is how does one go about getting a phone unlocked We bought a pay as you go Nokia in Ireland and we asked the sales clerk if we would be able to use it next year in Paris He said it would have to be unlocked but didnt tell us how to do thatBest regards ampnbsp Reply: Hi friend for best unlocking solutions online it is better logging onto wwwonlinegsmunlockcom you get your roaming rates decreased Posted By: Reply: HiWhen you bought your phone the provider had subsidized the cost of the phone so it was sold to you quotlockedquot to their network By unlocking the phone you will be able to use SIM cards from other providers With a local companys card you pay local rates for local calls ie no roaming chargesIve never attempted to do this myself but I just found a web site that offers the codes for unlocking phones for free free is good but of course sometimes you get what you pay forhttpwwwxcessinfounlockyournokiaphoneonlineforfreeaenaspxIf your phone model is listed you should be able to do it or find a techsavvy teenager to help you Best ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Dear About the SIM cards I used to call the SIM company and inform them that I was traveling and the countries I would visit and that I needed my card unlocked They always did it after I paid some moneyThese days I have decided to ask them to have this all the time so that I save time and money used to cost me more than 300 euros but now I pay 6 euros every monthUsualy this happens to the SIMs that are bought with a contract and not just the plain SIM cards For these cards you just do the same but you pay more in terms of getting cards and load them to you SIMI only hope that all I said made sence ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi It is the phone itself not the SIM cards that are locked or unlocked The unlocking of the phone is being done only once Thereafter you can use any SIM card as long as your phone works on the band in the country you are visiting The best way is to purchase a quadband phone which will work in every country using the GSM technology and then insert a local SIM card This combination will work same way as a prepaid local phoneIf you already own a GSM phone you can try and ask your telephone company to unlock it In the USA T Mobile will do it for you after 90 days of having service with them I purchased on eBay an unlocked Blackberry 7290 for under 50 US refurbished which works great ampnbsp Posted By:

<title>Question on Buenos Aires and Offer of information</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/kyik9NXr3P4/question-buenos-aires-offer-information_1.html</link>
<description>Hi Im new here and looking forward to participating in the group First a question we are flying into Buenos Aires EZE in about 10 days and would like suggestions on the best way to get transportation to the Microcentral area where our hotel is located Previously we prearranged a private car but dont feel that was worth the effort Any suggestions would be appreciated Offering information several topics We just returned from a long 5 month drive around the US including some of British Columbia and 5 weeks on the coast of Maine a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Natchez Trace Memphis Louisiana Cajun country and Silver City NM included as well Happy to try to answer any questions you might have FYI we are pretty casual travelers rarely make reservations and move slowly Also weve been to Antarctica once 2 years ago and are going on a more extended trip in a couple of weeks If you have any questions about this just ask Reply: HelloI second the suggestion of Manuel Tienda Leon as my family group of five used the bus and remise service on our trip a month ago Their online reservation system is easy to maneuver and efficient The remise is very fast I think it took us about 12 hour from microcentro to EZE Posted By: Reply: Hi I recommend you to take a car at the white and blue kiosk in Ezeiza Airport You pay first and they lead you to the car It is not so expensive like Tienda Leon a company I had a very disgusting experience with several years ago theywanted me to pay twice because they had a problem with the person that sold me the ticket Posted By: Reply: Hiere in Buenos Aires enjoying our second visit Theres a blue and white kiosk in the arrivals area at EZE Pay in advance at the desk and you will be escorted to a taxi Wed be delighted to get together GTG for coffee ice cream or lunch The apartment weve rented is in Recoleta You might be interested in reading the travelogue of our last visit which is on our web site Posted By: Reply: HiThis is what we always do we get a car with a driver called in Argentina quotremisequot from MANUEL TIENDA LEON flat rate is 141 pesos that is approx 40 US if I am not mistaken httpwwwtiendaleoncomarprehomeasp You can reserve it by he internet or you can get quota remisequot upon arrival there is a counter with a window from MANUEL TIENDA LEON you can pay with a credit card you cannot miss it it is right there and is the most well known company that serves airports The same company runs a bus but for two persons it is not worth it in my opinion Remises usually are not tipped in Argentina Unless he does something out of his way Taxis are tipped only small change When coming back to the airport the hotel can get you a quotremisequot from another company and most likely is going to be less Transportation in Buenos Aires and in Argentina should be approached carefully Better have the hotel call for taxis or call a radio taxi from a reputable company some of them are PIDALO 4956 1200 and 49322222 Alo Taxi 4855 0455 PREMIUM Taxis 52380000 and 43746666 and others If possible you can ask a restaurant to call for a taxi etc If you must flag one in the street look for one of the reputable companies name of company is on doors All taxis are yellow If you wish a car for a long ride a remise most likely is better they charge so much per kilometer but for long trips a fee can be negotiated It is obvious that the SECURITY in calling a radio taxi rests in that your request for a car is registered by the person who sends you a car Please ask any other question you might have We go very often to Argentina for family reasons Graciela in Miami Beach awake at this late hour in the East coast because I am hoping to look at the tennis final in Australia Posted By:

<description>HiIn my opinion YES it is not far from Madrid and it is a very interesting place I would try to stay overnight though I can recommend two choices the Posada San Jose and old charming inn on the cliff which is inxepensive and a nearby Hotel Eleonor de Aquitania Both have tremendous views The Parador is on the other side and is much more expensive For dinner I highly recommend a simple place called Meson Los Tintes their set sample menu is outstanding and very reasonable Reservations a must Since you are probably British you surely will appreciate in Cuenca the ever present link between the Kingdom of Castille and the Plantagenets Indeed Eleonor of England was Queen of Castille and Toledo as wife of Alfonso VIII of Castille The Hotel though as they pointed out when I asked them made a mistake They had wished to name it after her but instead used the name of the famous Eleonor of Aquitania her mother Eleonor of England loved her husband dearly and it is said thet out of grief she died only 28 days after her husband and was buried in Las Huelgas another may I say not to be missed place to visitYou might also stay in Los Tintes it is a little far from the Cathedral and the cliff and also the casas colgantes but easy to reach by bus a 10 minute ride or taxi I do not know how are the rooms but the food is greatHere you have their phone numbers Restaurante Posada Tintes 34 969 212 398 Posada San Jose 34 969 211 300Hotel Leonor de Aquitania httpwwwhotelleonordeaquitaniacomenhoteloverviewhtmlEnjoy Castille I am very fond of Catille and Leon as you can probably guess ampnbsp Reply: HelloI totally agree Cuenca is such an interesting place The quotcasas colgantesquot hanging houses are exactly that Houses built on the side of a great cleave a canyon that cuts through the city There is a hanging bridge to go from one side to the other and it is great to go across If one stays at the Parador the crossing is a must to get to the other side if you are walkingToledo is one of my favourite places in Spain home of El Greco DonampAcircampacutet miss The Burial of the Count of Orgaz one of his most famous paintings It used to be within a small church but is now in a special place of its own Not as romantic but much better lighting to enjoy itHave a great time in SpainRegards ampnbsp Posted By:

<description>Hi My husband and I are planning a two week trip to Poland and Croatia early NovemberWe would like to go as far south as Dubrovnik and return to Brussels where we have an ongoing flight to India but I am finding flights from Dubrovnik quite expensive around 400usd pp Does anyone know of airlines that might be lessWe plan to fly from Brussels to Wroclaw Poland via Ryannair very reasonable Then continue to Krokow and down thru Slovenia to Zagreb Split and hopefully Dubrovnik Any travel tipsinfo will be greatly appreciated ampnbsp Reply: HiTravelocity amp Expedia both have Croatia Airlines fares for Nov from Dubrovnik to Brussels for 329 ppampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi A word of warning about Ryanair You must now check in on line or it will cost ampAcircamppound40 per person per flight The check in alowance is just 15 kg each bag Cost for the first check in bag is ampAcircamppound15 and ampAcircamppound35 for the second Carry on is ONE ITEM only No handbags or duty free bags or plastic bags at all The size is difficult 20cm by 40cm by 55cm The 20cm is smaller than most carry on bags They checked everyone on my last two flights with them by putting the bags into their metal bagchecker They got very off with you if a bag even stuck a bit They have no heart and only want to get more money out of you If thay carryon is too big it will cost a lot to put it into the hold They fine you ampAcircamppound30 for a second carryon item I am saying item because anythingextra countsSorry about this news but hopefully you will avoid some of their chargesHave a lovely breakBest wishes ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: GreetingsThe snow has started to fall10 days ago it was 32 and now it is 3My wife and I travelled through Croatia and Hungary and then visited Poland on the next trip Both countries you areplanning to visit are fabulousWe found the buses in Croatia very good for getting around the country and we travelled from Dubrovnik to Opatija We loved Dubrovnik and highly recommend the walk around the city on top of the wall It is well worth the cost which wasnt very much We spent a couple of days in Split and used it as the launch point to visit the island of Hvar Split has a wonderful market and nice waterfront but we really didnt enjoy the city all that muchexcept the system of narrow alleys amp walkways behind the main streets were a lot of fun to explore and we did find a fabulous restaurant one night totally by accident amp ended up having a wonderfulmeal with a very nice Aussie coupleI would highly recommend a visit to Opatija it is beautifuland not too far from ZagrebIn Poland do not miss Krakow I recommend staying in the Tango Pension The Jewish section of Krakow has really good restaurants and the Galleria shopping mall has a seemingly endless number of stores We also visited Zakopane 2 hours south of Krakow by bus I think it is worthwhile to go see The bargains on leather goods at the market are staggering We rode the cable car to the top of the mountain it was OK nothing special but then I live in the mountains Also we visited the salt mine that is about 16 km SE of Krakow another easy trip by bus and the bus drivers tell you where to get off Obviously Auschwitz and Berkinow are a must see most sobering I am not a tour person but recommend taking aguided tour of these places It was very educationalWe had planned to go from Zakopane South to KoampAringampiexclice in Slovakia but the only way to get there was to take a bus 35 km to the border walk across and try to find a Slovakian bus or train My wife decided not to do that so we went back to Krakow and rode an all night train to Bratislava What agem that turned out to be we loved BratislavaEnjoy the trip I envy you ampnbsp Posted By:

<description>Hello What a great list The responses to the plight of a Delta cancellation were extremely helpful I truly believe I will get the Delta refund next week as promised The travel agent booked a replacement flight to Scotland on Continental leaving from our very comfortablemanageable Albany airport through Newark to Edinburgh This is actually preferable to the Delta departure from JFK that was cancelled The increase in price is well worth the decrease in stressI really panicked at the thought of the whole trip being cancelled I realize that I am not used to working through a travel agent I looked online for fares and routes so that when she quoted me a fare I would know if it was competitive It was impossible for me to just relax and let her do her job She is the agent for the tour of Scotland that we chose and we had to book that through her I wonder how many people use travel agents anymore with the general availability of internet bookingAnd so this Thursday the adventure begins Thank you all for your support and guidance I know we will love Scotland ampnbsp Reply: HiSo glad your plans worked outYou asked about using travel agents I do use an Ontario registered travel agent for flights and similar big ticket items because I want to be covered by TICOs compensation fund Ontario residents search here httpticoasicanadanetsourcecustomsearchcfm Or check the website for the TICO logo Expediaca seems to be a memberI know it isnt foolproof there are always complaints about the compensation fund not acting quickly enough etc And of course credit card companies can help you dont have to pay for something you didnt receive But it gives me a little peace of mind ampnbsp Posted By:

<description>Travel FriendsMy husband and I are considering what destination we should try for our annual May trip We are somewhat tied to an academic schedule so May is our best time to travel We loved our trip to Ireland in 2008 and would like to repeat that experience or a similar trip to England Cotswolds perhaps or Scotland We rented a car in Ireland and just drove to where our hearts directed us everyday The first thing we did in a new place was to find a BampampB for the night and in Ireland they were available in droves We never had a reservation but only once did we come across a city where we couldnt easily find a room within 2 tries The tourist centers were a great help in that We are wondering if England and Scotland with hundreds of BampampBs listed online would be a similar experience no reservations but no problem with rooms eitherWe really do not want to have a schedule but if you also have a special BampampB you love let me knowTake care ampnbsp Reply: Hi Janicegreat destinations and I love Scotland and England evenmore than Ireland though the Irish are very nice gbecause I think the landscape is much more diverseConcerning BampampBs I found lots in all the mentioned areasbut mainly with good planning in advance When I was forcedto look around on travelling it was always a bit moredifficult But I am usually travelling alone so bound tosingles or at least to hosts accomodating singles And assingle traveller you are a bit more cautious and try not tobe late at evening or even nightAnother thing to think about the most interestinglandscape in Scotland are the Highlands Wonderful And sooomuch solitude Which of course also means much spacebetween the houses and BampampBs but worth every mile Baerbelnear Stuttgart Posted By:

      <title>Best packing strategies</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/LVe6yv9d0PI/best-packing-strategies.html</link>
<description>Hi As I was doing my ampquotpractice packampquot I wondered what is the best method for packing I will be in and out of my suitcase all the time I wont be unpacking into drawers etcI know there are strategies to save space but what is the best combination of ease of use with cramming the most into my suitcaseThanksampnbsp Reply: HiI found the best method for packing the easiest to find things later and the way to put more clothes or use a smaller suitcase is to put clothes flat one over the other Then you can easily find them like if you were passing abookampAcircampacutes pagesThe night gown or the first thing you will need when you arrive on topUnderwear socks or stockings can go into your shoes Pack your shoes separately and put them matching them like in a puzzle In the holes among you can put some other small thingsThis has proved to be useful to me when I was travelling for long time only staying one or two days in every place I hope this will be useful to you tooRegards ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiI love my Eagle Creek brand packing cubes and quotenvelopesquot I bought them originally on line from Magellan or Travel Smith They keep everything orderly in your suitcase and it is easy to take out each cube or envelope There are at least two sizes of each kind of packing aid For example my husbands and my underwear can go into separate large cubes Shirts in a small envelope and bulkier items in a big envelope They also help condense what you have because the envelopes can be closed quite tightly The envelopes come with a plastic board and directions for the best way to fold your clothes They are great for dirty laundry on the way home and they can be laundered I am glad that you remindedme to order a few more of the cubesHappy travels ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi I use packing cubes now and just love them Mine arent anything fancy made of I suppose a nylon or polyester base and sides and a mesh top I take 3 of varying sizes and can fit everything I need in them which last trip was items required for temperatures of minus 5C to plus 40 C Large cube warm clothes and trousers Medium cube shirts thermals gloves scarves etc Small cube socks electrical bits and pieces like adaptor plugs batteries torch I have a small separate toiletries bag What I love about cubes is that you know exactly where everything is so you only need to open the cube you need to find something and then you place it back into your suitcase without disturbing anything else My husband is now converted to cubes as well and Im trying to convince my son and daughter in law to take them to Vietnam later this monthRegards ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi I also have a couple of those Travel Space BagsampAcircampreg which you roll up rather than vacuum They are great for sweaters andbulky thingsWe have gone to rolling duffel bags with the drip bottoms as our preferred luggage because of their light weight and durability The packing cubes are a great combination with the duffel bagsTSA doesnt mess stuff up either They seem to be happy with being able to see the rolled clothing in the bagsI also save the plastic zipper bags that sheet sets come in They are good for a couple pairs of ladys shoes or a pair of gents shoesWhen my DH had cataract surgery he got a bunch of little black carry pouches with eye drops and sun glasses from the eye surgeon These are wonderful little bags for toiletriesIf you have a Tuesday Morning store nearby check out the travel accessories Its hit or miss so you might have to go a few times to score but Ive gotten a few really nice things there like a toiletry bag that holds decent sized plastic bottles and is leakproofHave a wonderful trip ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: GreetingsAdd my name to the list of packing cube amp envelope fans I dont think the brand name is an issue at all I have used my sons Eagle Creek Ive seen Heys and another brand I cant name they all seem to accomplish the same thing Everything is separate and easy to access they fit well in a variety of suitcases Do weigh your suitcases though they get pretty heavy when you can pack that much moreampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiLarge Zip Lock bags have always served me well for packing They keep things separated and no spills I usually take along a few dozen extras for purchases which often include spices If I plan on buying chiles I take some tin foil alsoI usually roll my clothes which eliminates hard wrinkles I always take an extra fold up bag for purchasesjust in case I find some gifts for the grandkids Always take along an extra luggage tag tooWe travel light I figure a few slackspants and shirtstops and 2 pairs of shoes we are set The outfit I wear on the plane is usually knit or very comfy for those long overseas flights Also slip on shoes make the flight and security easierRemember that liquids gels etc need to be small Even if you have a container marked 6 ounces and it has 2 ounces leftsecurity tosses it Also some airlines will not even allow small fingernail clippersSome of the cheaper airlines overseas have VERY strict luggage weight regulations including your carry on Air Asia is one of those airlines ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiI too am a proponent of Travel Cubes The ones I have are Eagle Creek brand but were purchased from Sierra Trading Post at a reduced price My husband and I especially like the medium size envelopes which hold our shirts and slacks They are so very easy to use and hold the wrinkles at bay When packing we actually quotcross packquot so that if one piece of luggage is lost or delayed we each still have some clothes The neat thing is that our rolling luggage 25 or 26 inch is just wide enough to hold the envelopes with socks andor underwear tucked in beside the envelope to keep things from quotsloshingquot around My sister and BIL both usethem after seeing how easily we packed for a tripHappy Travels ampnbsp Posted By:

<description>HiAfter doing extensive research I realize that inexpensive accommodations in Boston really dont exist but I am still hoping to find a place where my family can stay for four nights at the end of next month to attend a family wedding There are five of us husband me three kids always a problem since most places dont allow more than four people but my husbands parents will also be going so he can stay with themand of course they would prefer to stay wherever we stayThe wedding events are on different days in different parts of Boston and the accommodations can be utterly barebones The only requirement is that we be close to public transit a T station and that the place be reasonably clean and heatedThank you for any leads ampnbsp Reply: HiThis is an old article httptinyurlcom62lkoq but maybe it will give you a leadHope that helpsampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HelloWill you consider a hostelBostons Hostelling International USA httpwwwbostonhostelorg is at a great location and in a nicelooking building The location is at 12 Hemenway St httpwwwbostonhostelorgcontactshtml within walking distance of Newbury Street I have not been to this building myself but I had been to 4 Hemenway St when an acquaintance lived in an apartment there while studying music in Boston The area looks clean and safe to meFor youngsers under 18 they must be accompanied by adults Call to find out more details to see if this is the rightchoice for you ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: GreetingsDepending on where in Boston your wedding is whether youre renting a car and how much youre willing to travel you could get lucky in Waltham I frequently did when my daughter was in college At the time the Westin was less expensive than intown hotels and there are plenty of others Its a short ride from the center of the city Rite 128 is no picnic but it gets you there Theres also the Sheraton on the MASS Pike 90 I am not sure if thats technically Newton or Boston and theres the Marriott and Holiday in Newton both of which are serviceable and once upon a time were not too expensiveGood luckBest ampnbsp Posted By:

<title>Back from Rome and Florence Part II</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/Qxm7JrDAtkM/back-from-rome-florence-part-ii.html</link>
<description>Hi We arrived to Florence Rifieri Station only a 14 euro taxi drive to Hotel Casci next door to the Medici Ricciardi Palace a must visit The Casci had all the good attributes of an Italian Family hotel spotless great breakfast with delicious cappuccinos made to order eggs all kind of fruit cakes fresh fruit cold cuts etc Room for two was 135 and for three 171 eu Including breakfast and paying with cashThey have a good library full of guide books and good DVDSOur room was more of a suite very ample it is good for five persons we were only three and were happy there There was a big flat TV and a DVD which turned out to be good when we wished to relax after having walked half of Firenze and planning for a late dinner There was also a safety box and a small fridge so every day we got in the nearby supermarket sodascookies hamsalami cheese and things like that for our DVD timeIt was particularly good for my grandson Close of the Hotel there was one of the best toy shops I have ever seen It was ideal for getting presents for the rest of the grandchildren Around the corner there was an internetphone place where you can call anyplace for almost nothing in the Casci we had free internet in the lobby This was good because my daughter called home everyday to talk to her other two sons and husband and I could call my husband in MiamiDuring this trip I tried for the first time to have lunch at the Central Market It was located a couple blocks from the hotel upon some recommendation we stopped at Da Nerbone founded in 1872 it is easily found in the ground floor We were there sharp by noon and were lucky to face a short line we paid and ordered at the same time and he handed us 3 trades with our meals We had meat pasta great salads good bread wine and water And paid very little I forgot how much THen took the trades to a larger table just in front We were joined by a couple of two older guys one from Boston the other one from Germany Inevitably we ended up chatting however as soon as we finished we had some Italians looking hard at us meaning this is not a place to chat So we left immediately They were right these people work in the area or may be in the market and are on lunch break Previously of having lunch we had visited Santa Maria Novella a mustsee church it is only a few blocks away so everything seemed in the right place the church then the lunch in the Market Place then a small rest in the hotelWe had one lunch and one dinner with prenotazione done by the hotel which proved to be a great idea at Trattoria La Casalinga called by some the homestyle trattoria frequented by a neighborhood crowd it is wonderful Great food and great prices THere you can find tourists but lots of locals businessmen in ties artisans in overallsstudents all kind of people La Casaligna is located in Via dei Michelozzi 9 closed Sundays In the other side of the Arno near to Santo Spirito churchFor dinner we reserved for 830 arrived walking as fast as we could right in time People in the line gave us a hard look but there it was our table with our name Wow that was such a good feelingWe had a very good dinner at 13 Gobbi a typical trattoria restaurant near the Excelsior Hotel Went there with local friends stayed till very late great atmosphere We shared most everything for starters we order three antipasti for five and worked fine It was a good dinner After dinner they drove us for a lovely view from Piazzale MicheangeloAs in Rome my daughter and grandson visited more museums than me I loved the Bargello which is outstanding also visited the Chiostro degli Uomini inside the Spedale degli Innocenti not far from the hotel we visited early in the morning the next door Palazzo Medici Ricciardi and were able to spend a LONG time alone in the beautiful private tiny chapel with the famous Procession of the Magi by Gozzolibeautiful To be alone was outstanding being September A German lady came in and we shared our information and appreciation of this beautiful pictureWe also visited early in the morning the not to miss Laurentian Library by Michael AngeloThe entrance is in the Brunelleschi cloister Visiting it was one of the highlights of the trip so fascinating it is My daughter is an Architect and she went there twice during this short trip Everything is special including the stairs and the floorThey stayed one more day than me and found time to visit Santa Croce fascinating too The Uffici is another must of courseThey visited the Palazzo Vecchio I passed and instead sat down in the nearby Loggia people watching and also watching of course the beautiful master pieces all over the piazza Finally I left because a group may be 7 or 8 nasty Italians like a gang type arrived doing all kind of silly things and I noticed the 2 security guards a little helpless So I said to myself better move along There is a charge to most everything as in all Europe most of the benefits regarding age either young or old are restricted to the European Union citizens which is unfortunate for us However we were fortunate that the week end we were in Florence most places were free byampquot commandampquot of the same EU which we gladly accepted So we did not pay in several really expensive places in the case of the Uffice we made a prenotazione paying only the 3 eu reservation fee and having the entrance ticket freelife is good Weather was very hot A short visit let us dream of the next one ampnbsp

<description>HiI am so glad that you find some useful information in my previous posting I am sure you shall be ok it was a chaotic scenario but it took us like half and hour to get through my daughter and my grandson got through passport control earlier so when I got through they were already thereYou will have a lovely time but be alert in buses and the like For me walking is the best option Another day I took a bus in Rome and put the ticket through the machine located inside the bus to have it stamped with the date and hour Tickets last 75 minutes meaning it can be used as much as you want during this time The machine did not work So I was in the bus with a ticket that could not be stamped A nun next to me told me not to worry This is ROme she said but an Italian lady sitting down pulled my arm and said Signora what you have to do is write on your ticket the day and time if an inspector gets you he will fine you 50 eu And that made senseI can recommend in Florence not to miss the Bargello this is a wonderful Palace a beautiful example of Gothic Florentine Architecture one of the citys oldest building it has a collection of early Michael Angelos and the famous Donatello s David There is a liftActually lifts are available most of the time Hidden someplace but Italians are graceful should you need it Of course the usual Uffizi and Santa Croce I believe are the must and also the recently re opened Santa Maria Novella Church There are SOOOOOO many things to see as listed in books Florence is absolutely fascinating as I said we walked late at night with no problemHave a great time ampnbsp

      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/YD-jDUuSlk4/back-from-rome-florence-part-1.html</link>
<description>Hello Just back for exciting ten days in Rome and Florence and a short escape to Geneve I took my oldest grandson Jeronimo 14 years old and my daughter Andrea for a spring vacationOur flights mine American from New York and theirs Alitalia from Buenos Aires arrived minutes apart both on time the same day at Fiumicino where we were reunitedUpon arrival I was shocked with the chaotic scenario to go through passport control instead of lines there was a huge amorphe crowd However this was about the only disappointment in contraposition to many other situations where the hospitality and kindness of Italians was ever presentJust one example of what I mean the very last day I was alone in Rome they flew directly from Florence to Buenos Aires I chose to spend the last evening hours in the Capitoline Museum which btw that night was open exceptionally till 11 PMHaving bought a cappuccino and cake from the bar I sat down at a table in the beautiful terrace facing the fascinating view of Rome at my feet I was going to drink my cappuccino when the waitress a young girl told me that tables were only for those requesting table service I was going to leave when she changed her mind and smiling she told me Please Signora rest and enjoy this beautiful view and it was because it was sunset time so I did This shows to me once more the Italian hearts We chat for a while and she told me she felt fortunate to work there only to have Rome at her feet everydayI feel that the Capitoline is one of the most fascinating museums in Rome and certainly to be at sunset in the cafeteria terrace is a big plus another plus is enjoying the Roman Forum from another terrace in the museum To get there once inside the Museum you have first to go down and then upWhile my daughter and her son visited a few more museums than I during this trip I focused only on a few and instead spent more time sitting in cafes and walking without a particular destination in mindBesides the Capitoline Museum we made a reservation by the internet to visit the Vatican Museums Monday at 11 AM reservations is a must 4 euro fee per person considering the huge lines However the Sistine Chapel visit was really unpleasant The Guards were rudeshouting to the visitors and kind of pushing us into a huge disgusting crowd that filled the grounds of the chapel It was our good luck to be able to sit by the wall by the front altar but it happened by chance This might have well be my last Sistine Chapel visitAfter the visit we had lunch in a fairly good trattoria called Il Colibri we walked a couple of blocks on Via Leone IV and turned right at Via Famagosta 69lunch was 64 euros 3 pane coberto 3 2aqua 600 euros 3 antipasti 1950 2 primi piatti 23 euros 1 dolci 450 1 cafe 150 service on top 550 total 64 euros Antipasti were shrimp cocktail big shrimps very goodThe place was full only with locals and lunchAnother Museum we enjoyed was the Borghese Gallery We visited it on Sunday made an appointed from the US for 3 PM Actually the way it is set you email your phone number and they call you long distance right back We took tram 8 from Trastevere half way to Largo Argentino walked through Piazza Spagna enjoying Via Condotti having a cappuccino in famous old Cafe Grecco and window shopping It was an up hill walk and we were delighted to reach restaurant Il Pomidorino via Campinia 45e lunch 53 euros recommended to us by a Giorgio from the Hotel delle Muse sitting in a terrace table and being Sunday we were soon to be joined by Italian families and some tourists too Service was good food was good and it was reasonable Thank you Giorgio We had one filetti de cernia with zucchini one grillata mista pesce 1 margherita for my grandson 1 bruschetta brie noci two panna water one Pellegrino water all big one desertWe kept walking towards the Borghese Gallery through the park which was full of activities being Sunday Musicians bikes etc We were to spend several hours in the museum I asked to go up by the elevator which was a tiny capsule from Jules Verne tales I feel this museum is a must for any Rome visitor It is not cheap 1050 eu per personGoing home to Trastevere we had hoped to get the tiny 116 bus which departs from Porta Pinciana We had no more bus tickets which proved to be a problem being a Sunday because all tobacco shops were closed The nice lady in the Gallery cafeteria suggested to pay simply with one euro coins in the machine to that effect inside tiny 116 buses She even changed a five euro note for usSo everything sounded great except that the coin machine in the bus did not work What to do The driver told us I cannot tell you what to do meaning get in So we did it and rode for free However we were a little nervous and jumped out the moment we were in the Pantheon vicinity looked for the ice cream shop Linda and Don have taken us once but having no luck finally we settled for a different shop Prices for ice cream vary tremendously from shop to shopOn our way up that day we visited the fascinating church of Sant Ignazio with its wonderful trompe loeil frescos that Sunday I also had had a early 8 oclock mass at Santa Maria in Trastevere another worth visiting churchIce cream in hand we walked our way to Trastevere to our charming bampampbArco del Lauro httpwwwarcodellauroit merits the highest recommendations t consists of two groups of rooms in total there are 6 rooms both next door buildings have a small reception We stayed this time in the newer of the two which consists of only two rooms Ours the quadruple has a big bed and three single beds a nice modern bathroom of course not very big a flat tv ac and is decorated in a minimalist style Spotless In the reception area most of the time unmanned there are free internet 247 free local phone calls no phone in rooms and free coffee tea lemoncello mmmdelicious cookies yoghurt orange juice and cold water Such a welcoming place The owner Lorenza is really charming and her assistant Daniela too Guests have both keys of course the main door key and the room key We paid 150 eu for three persons Breakfast is served around the corner in a nice cafe in the Plaza Priscincula a cappuccino and a croissant with chocolate or marmalade or cream or plain They are flexible and if you wish something else like my grandson did you only pay the difference between what you are entitled and what you getWe had dinner in Trastevere using different places one was Trattoria da Enzo in Via Vascellari 29 where reservation is a must it is only a tiny unpretentious place but is always full I felt success has gone up their heads and we had the feeling of being waiting like when one waits for a bank to opena little too much from their partThe Ensalata Ricca Via Santini 1216 is good for light food try their sea food salad for only 750 eu and across the Viale Trastevere we found a nice place with the most delicious thin crusty pizza topped with fresh tomatoes muzzarela de buffalo and arugula This place near the market in Piazza Cosimato 4849 was inexpensive and they were very friendly Dinner for three was in the 41 euro range with a beer and a coke and mineral water most of the time No wineGoing into the bampampb we got into the habit of picking up an ice cream cone from McDonalds which was 70 each but of course we also had the Italian more expensive gelatos the weather was extremely hot and gelatos and water bottles were constantly present in our livesOne night we had lunch in a friends house typically Italian a huge apartment they have five children with two fantastic terraces full of plants and nice pieces of furniture Many antiques She being Argentine met her husband a Roman noble while her father was an Ambassador to the Vatican they are down to earth charming people their warm hospitality and welcoming were outstanding we had simple fare no help but it was delicious and we were able to have a glimpse at real Roman life Her children go to the public school which is good she said The boys the oldest a mere 14 years old kissed our hands and were polite and at the same time real children She and my daughter were school friends so they have the same age and of course my grandson and her eldest also Both rugby players they talked mostly about that They were as kind as to pick us up and take us back although we tried hard to take a taxi back at no avail She told us that during the day she and her husband go to work or whatever in motor bikes the best way to get around They live some 20 minutes from TrastevereThere were many free concert in churches we went to one on Basilica S Eustachio near the Pantheon at 9 PM At the time and as I said some museums opened till 11 PM streets were crowded and we felt secure at all times Took crowded buses and were NOT pick pocketed took a couple of taxis fare was from Trastevere to Termini 15 euro with three pieces of luggage to and from Fiumicino we took an autoleggio which charged 35 euros each time Autono Leggio Giani Lucarino giannilucarino fastwebnetit To the Vatican we took bus 23 avoiding the famous 64 To and from Trasteve to the Termini area we used H bus In Trastevere we used the electric tram 8 which runs on Viale Trastevere I bought in Trastevere station the train tickets for FlorenceI got a great deal going to Firenze choosing an Intercity train leaving 1044 arriving at 1330 not at Santa Maria Novella but to Rifredi Station Three tickets with Amici discount were 6480 euros one way while coming back alone in the Eurostar with a 15 off was 36 euros The taxi from Rifredi station to the Hotel in Firenze was 14 euro and the taxi from the hotel to Santa Maria Novella station was 10 euros In summary we saved like 60 euros spent 4 more in taxi fare and the trip took us one hour more It was not wasted because we had made delicious sandwiches in a tiny yet excellent deli and took them and artichoke salad chocolate and brie for 25 eu and had lunch going down to Firenze like some other passengers did Arrived fresh and ready to attack Florence and that night I enjoyed the saving to have a real good dinnerWe found out through a local that the owner a lady of El Cardello died and that the place is not the same this was near the Colosseum and near Via Cavour so a local sent us to Valentino not expensive very fresh was ok When we went for dinner to my daughters friend home she took a chocolate cake which the children loved I looked all over for some nice chocolate at no avail went to Campo del Fiori etc finally I found them so if you ever need to take some nice chocolate as a present try Leonidas Via dei Redentorisfi 16 near the Pantheon Great Belgian chocolate and reasonable Which visit I enjoyed most maybe the fantastic Church of San Clement near the Coliseum in via di San Giovani in Luterano This place impressed me how Rome was built over and over again on top of itself and used bit and pieces of its former self It is a sublime ancient church descending to the third and lowest level some thirty feet beneath the present church in itself fascinating there is a 385 church and a Mithraic temple from the 2nd century BC One under the other The fee is 5 eu 350 for children fascinating do not miss thisIn my wonderings from cafe to cafe I also visited Luigi dei Francesi Church with its amazing Carravaggios Free entrance but you have to spend some coins lighting up the chapels because they are really dark However while I was there lot of French tours came in and I profited from the lighting I shall continue with Florence shortly I hope you can take some good information from these few days in Rome Reply: HiThis is a timely posting as I am leaving for Italy in two days Sept 30 Thanks for the lovely recommendations although I am a little worried about the whole scene in the Rome airport I have a connecting flight to catch to Venice so I hope its manageable in 2 12 hours But Ill be in Venice so no matter what it takes to get there I hope it will be wonderful My first time in Italy there seems to be so much art and history Im sure Ill be overwhelmed Looking forward to your Florence posting ampnbsp Posted By:

      <title>Airline cancellation</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/daEKt60W9HE/airline-cancellation.html</link>
<description>HelloWe have been planning a October 5 triptour to Scotland for several months Everything is paid and ready to go Travel agent called yesterday and said Delta has cancelled the flight I am looking now at flights with a hefty increase in fare Travel agent states to me that fares are as low as they have been since 2001 Im not so sure about that If anyone has any tips on how to solve this sudden search for a roundtrip flight to Edinburgh from New York area with not too many stops and connections that arent too tightPlease let me knowIm searching Thanks all ampnbsp Reply: HiTry our fare flight finder links httptinyurlcomyav4ldgJust tried Kayak and it found quite a few reasonable fareshttpwwwkayakcomindexjspAlso cant your travel agent find you a good price I am also surprised that you are not protected from this because you booked through a travel agentHowever I have never faced this fingers crossed Good luck ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HelloIm not only wondering why your travel agent isnt going to bat for you as any reputable one would Im wondering why Delta hasnt accommodated you on another flight Have they cancelled all flights to Scotland Cant they put you on another airline if they cant get you there as they contracted I would go back to Delta and your travel agent both by phone and email for a quotwrittenquot record and not let them off the hook so readily Good luck ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HelloI would definitely call Delta They are showing flights from JFK to Edinburg on the October via Paris on Air France for October 5th If they cancelled a particular flight they usually put you on another flight The price I saw was 701 round tripEven when they change aircraft which happened to my Mother the day of the flight from Honolulu they reseated everyone or put them on a different flight So call DeltaBeen many many years since I was in Scotland but it was wonderfulSafe travels ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi from CalgaryMy friends know me as a letter writer I stick up for myselfRecently I traded letters with the President of Air CrappyI would not let Delta get away with it My first step would be to talk to my travel agent and if that got me nowhere I would be writing to the President of Delta If you are in a hurry I would be sending it express postDont be a victim of corporate America ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiI have heard that Delta is not flying into Scotland one of my favorite places to boycott the release of the Lockerbie BomberHas anyone else heard thisampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi all Wheres YYCHave a great week ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi All Does YYC stand for Calgary Alberta Canada or does it stand for Calgary Airport AuthorityHave a great week ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi About three months ago we bought roundtrip tickets from Portland OR to Hawaii so that we could attend our daughters wedding there in October We bought tickets on Northwest which has since merged with and become DeltaFour times in the last three months the airline has changed our flights And these are not minor changes Theyve repeatedly tried to route us through Los Angeles and Salt Lake City adding over 24 hours in each case to our flight time My wife has blood clot issues and this could be very dangerous for herEach time they do this to us we have to call and spend a lot of time working through the phone tree to get a reasonable set of flights to and from Hawaii Weve never been to Hawaii but my understanding is that it is a popular destination Why are flights tofrom there so hard to getAs it now stands we have reasonable routes on our flight but weve lost two days from our trip forcing us to pay for an overnight stay that we cant use Repeated phone calls to Delta have been a waste of timeWeve been using Northwest Airlines for years including several trips to Europe but we wont ever be Delta customersWere thankful that we get to go and were determined to have a good time despite the best efforts of Delta to ruin our vacation ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiWhat a nightmare to be cancelled this close to your trip Have you tried httpwww1800flyeuropecom Not sure the date of your return so I put in departure from New York 5 October departure from Edinburgh 13 October The price I saw was 66248 with one connection Hope youve already found something Have a wonderful tripBest regardsampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Greetings This issue of cancellation and flight changes has really hit my hot button Earlier this year after much research I booked flights to Europe with a well known airline I purchased quotnon refundablequot tickets for the flight Several months later they cancelled my flight and booked me on another one that left four hours earlier The earlier flight was not possible because it would mean leaving work much too early to make the flight I called the airline and asked for a refund on the grounds that they could no longer provide me what I had purchased a flight to a certain cityon a certain date at a certain timeYou would have think that I asked for them to give me a brand new 777I was first told I could not get a refund laterthey offered a partial refund Finally I was told I would get a complete refund I ended up with a partial refund that was less than the one they offered All my calls got the run aroundWhat other business thinks they can take the customers money not provide the promised product offer an unacceptable substitute and still think they have the right to keep the customers money ampnbsp Posted By:

<description>HiI did indeed relay misinformation about the distance from the port to the train station in Livorno I was confusing this port with Naples where the train station is just steps from the shipIn Livorno we took a taxi from the ship directly to the Livorno train station I cant remember the cost but we had four in our taxi so with splitting it wasnt very much From there two of us went to Lucca and the other two went to FlorenceSince you wouldnt be driving while in Florence Id still recommend this plan rather than renting a car More reliable less hassleThank you ampnbsp

<description>Hi We will be in Eastern Germany Berlin Weimar Leipzig and Dresden Oct 819 We welcome any suggestions for restaurants art and music and anything off the beaten tourist path We will be traveling by train Are there any train passes for a week that we should look into Is it feasible to do a day trip to Meissen from Dresden by boat Finally we are planning to tour the BMW factory in Leipzig Has anyone else taken this tour what did you think We appreciate your advice and information ampnbsp Reply: HiIf you go to the httpwwwRailEurope website youll be able to put your train itinerary in and see if its less expensive to buy pointtopoint tickets or if a German rail pass is the quotticketquot Just calculating a bit it appears to me that maybe a 2nd class pass for 4 days travel in a month for 260 per person would be the most economical 2nd class train travel in Germany is very goodclean amp safe and notcrowded in OctoberSorry I cant help with restaurants Havent been in Germany for a couple years Posted By: Reply: HiWhen my wife and I stayed in Dresden we took a day trip to Meissen by train I dont think we looked into the boatoption although that sounds like more funNo matter how you get to Meissen you will have the same problem we did when you arrive where is the porcelain factory and how do you get there Im assuming that thatis your destination its certainly worth the effortOf course you could always take a taxi but that takes all the adventure out of it from my way of thinking And it costs too much The factory is quite a long ways from the river and train station so we decided to try and eitherfind a bus or walkWe met a young woman I think she was a student who agreed to help us get to the porcelain factory I know a little bit a very little bit of German so she assumed I was fluent and chattered away I was able to catch the odd phrase and it was clear that she wanted us to follow her She took us to a bus stop and told us which bus to take andwhere to get off Very helpfulWe got off the bus as directed and walked in to the porcelain factory only to find that we were trying to get in the workers entrance We were patiently redirected Thepublic museum is the next building up the streetIt is an excellent tour and the porcelain is amazing They have several quotlivequot exhibits where you can watch workers demonstrate while a recorded narration in German explains what theyre doing You can get a headset to hear the tour in your language The workers are bored stiff but its interesting anyway I amused myself thinking about the process used to choose who had to sit in the demo room on any given day Is it a lottery A truth or consequencesgame Employee disciplineAnyway I hope you get there and enjoy it Posted By:

<description>Hi Thanks to those who responded to my question about visiting Leipzig andor Dresden On our drive from France to Berlin we chose to drive to Leipzig and didnt like the look of it so we moved on to PotsdamTwo hotel recommendations for planning a visit to Potsdam or Berlin In the former we stayed at the Potsdam am Luisenplatz It was exactly what we needed after a week on the road quiet and away from the hurly burly of the tourist area but only a block away from it httpwwwhotelluisenplatzdeIn Berlin we stayed at Hotel Alexandra Pension in the Kurfurstendamm neighbourhood Very convenient to the U Bahn and a block from Kurfurstendammstrasse a lovely street filled with restaurants This is a residential neighbourhood so the side streets are quiet httpwwwalexandraberlindeOne more tip The 109 bus from Kurfurstendammstrasse travels to Tegel Airport in 20 minutes and costs only 2 Euros 10 cents A real bargain It stops at Terminal 1 theres a shuttle bus for travellers leaving from any of the other terminals

      <title>A Dilemma</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/OxOxGHucyOk/dilemma.html</link>
<description>Greetings from Calgary the place with the weirdest weather in the world July and August were not ideal summer months cool and damp Today is the first day of Autumn and it was 29C Tomorrow the project high is 31C Sunday the project high is 12C From shorts to jackets almost overnight Can you all say welcome to the fluAnyway to the point of the noteMy wife was a travel agent for 20 years and in the old days we got really good travel deals return trip to Hong Kong from Calgary 199 so we traveled quite a bit When we travel we like to purchase artwork paintings sculptures carvings etc rather than the tshirts and hats OK OK I have several tshirts Now that we are retired we still travel a lot and still like to purchase mementoes that we consider to be art Youd think wed learn but I guess we arent that brightWe are empty nesters and have been for a few years and are planning to downsizeAll of a sudden the treasures we purchased in far away lands arent so desirable A lot of them are in boxes in the basement I dont think they are candidates for our garage sale but we will try Our kids sure as h dont what them they made that perfectly clear I dont see them as donations to a seniors residence like all my old paperbacks I may be able to read my own books again in a few years when I am a resident by then I will not remember ever reading them Ebay Not likelySo what to do with the treasuresIf you would like a jade ship from mainland China let me knowI have a huge scale model of the Blue Nose from Nova ScotiaCarved masks from Africa look really nice on the wallA wooden carving quite rude actually of a fertility god from someplace I actually forget whereMy advice take pictures they only take up disk space and it is cheap these days buy the tshirts they wear outGood bye from Calgary I am going to watch the ISS speed over head ampnbsp Reply: HiI can relate to what you are going through At the time you need to have the souvenirs but later they become just another thing to get rid ofMy question is why not Ebay You never know what people are interested in and will pay forYou could donate some of your things to a school At my school we have an International Week each year where each class studies a different country the more information and resources we have the betterKeep the jade ship Doesnt jade bring good luckCheers ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiSell them on eBay I bet youll be surprised how much money youll makeampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiFor you the stuff youve collected over the years are memorabilia from your travels but you say that you chose them because they seemed to have some artistic value Asian art is widely collected all over the world and it is sold in galleries and auctions In North America collecting Asian art is particularly big in the west in places like Vancouver and San Francisco You should try to get a dealer or auctioneer specializing in Asian art to look at your collection to give you a feel for how much money you might get by selling the stuff For auctioneers throughout North America check httpwwwartfactcom They list auctioneers and upcoming auctions which helps you learn who specializes in whatYou may read about the two big international auction houses Sothebys and Christies but they generally only handle high end stuff greater than 5000 but there are a huge number of second and third tier and local auctioneers who may be interested in handling your stuff Dont get your hopes too high that youll get huge amounts of money On the other hand there may be collectors and dealers who would be interested in buying at least some of your items At smaller auctions a lot of items sell for less than 100 which might be in the range for your memorabilia as collectibles Of course you may be lucky and discover that a few of your items sell for big money ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hi I am sure we have all had to downsize at one time or another My church has a resale shopthey take donations so I have donated many times to them The Salvation Army Goodwill and many other organizations take just about anything in donationsone mans junk is another mans treasure I donated all the books I did not have room for to our public librarythey were pleased to get them I do not know that you have these organizations in Canada but I am sure there are other organizations that do take donations for charityGood luck ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiIts alarming when you start digging in boxes to find memorabilia from your travels stuff that looked great when it was in its natural location stuff that reminded you of a special place amp time Stuff that is now threatening to overwhelm you Some of it may be collectible art some not amp the memories get in the way of deciding onto which side ofthe line the item fallsAnd to make matters worse for me I ended up with all the travel memorabilia from parents grandparents aunts uncles cousins amp distant relations who have all passed on I knew my kids wouldnt want to inherit an entire room stuffed with photo albums amp memorabilia so I began the process of digital scrapbooking turning what has seemed like tons of old negatives slides amp prints into digital images amp making digital collages It is a tedious process but I discovered that I could also take digital images of the memorabilia to use in the collages Aha The light came on amp boxes of stuff went to historical societies antique shops amp as last effort to a charity Id much rather have an image of my dads beanie from frosh week at Oregon State 1934 than the real motheaten thing I havent yet triedeBay but thats next for some of the larger itemsI agree Pete keep the jade ship but take a digital video of a <title>Conferences culture and modern plumbing two weeks in the UK</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/9evsQ2J_NxM/conferences-culture-modern-plumbing-two-weeks-uk.html</link>
<description>Hi Once a year I must get my UK fix while others head to New York or Paris I go to London This year worked well for I was able to combine two conferences with some play time First I signed on for the Oxford Conflict Conference which focused on The Making of the Modern Middle East This was consistent with my interest in that area plus my participation with Global Exchanges December Israel Palestine study tour Following that was an Ancient World Conference at the University of London focused on Egypt I wouldnt have made the trip for that but since it was there and I was there why not And then came several days of seeing friends met on various tours and going to theatre at best combining the twoI knew the potent were positive at the start United Air upgraded me from economy to business class And that is how it continued The HeathrowOxford bus timing was perfect the Christ Church college room was newly refurbished and ideal for me I had stayed at St Johns College last year when I attended to the TE Lawrence symposium St Johns was put to shame in comparison to the grandeur of Christ Church particularly the magnificently high vaulted ceiling dining room used in Harry Potter films One of my fellow attendees who had studied at Christ Church commented he felt so unworthy and I could understand thatThe conference was held in a small modern lecture hall with good sound It was put together by the Middle East Centre at St Anthonys College Oxford with experts from the UK Australia Egypt America and the Middle East Starting with TE Lawrence talks progressed through the mandates the ArabIsraeli conflicts Egypts role Hamas and Hesbolla security issues and Al Quaeda ending with missed opportunities for some kind of resolution It seemed Israel was mostly responsible for dropping the ball or refusing to catch itFor the most part wonderful engaging speakers With an equally bright and knowledgeable audience including PhDs retired and active Navy personnel government staff and politically interested souls like myself There were about 120 attendees including thirty Elder hostelers primarily Brits and Americans with a few assorted EuropeansA preconference day gave me a chance for a walking tour of Oxford including visiting several other Oxford colleges and a boat trip to Iffley with its lovely little ancient church St Marys Midconference we packed up and went to Waddesdon Manor the home of the Rothschilds who were active in supporting early Jewish settlements in Palestine It was an absolutely fascinating place the Manor is actually a museum The grounds are extensive All part of a bygone era of Conspicuous Consumption as Veblen termed itI ws so stimulated by the conference both speakers and attendees that I didnt sleep much but kept rewinding the tapes in my head One of the speakers I met during last years TE Lawrence Society symposium and I did have opportunities to talk with him In fact all the speakers made themselves available to the conference attendees for questions and discussions And comfortably housed and fed I did hate to leaveBut moving onto the London I had miscalculated in booking my hotel so had no place to stay the first night Ended up in a small hotel in Bloomsbury where I had stayed in years past It had deteriorated into a backpackers place bed but no breakfast Cheap and relatively clean The rest of the time I was at The Celtic Hotel at Russell Square recently repainted with bright new facilities A rabbit warren of rooms throughout three row houses combined similar to The Tabard Inn in DC I was on the top floor in a small room but with toilet across the way and shower down the stairs Full English breakfast for those that want that much Impeccably kept place I will returnAnd off to the the Ancient World Conference at the University of London This group was largely concerned with early digs in Egypt including facial analysis of ancient Egyptians and the like It was hard for me keep alert though the audience was fascinated and the QampampA was spirited I was interested in a talk about Nimrod for I had been so close and was totally awake for Michael Woods presentation Alexanders Greatest Battle He was a terrific presenter with outstanding films of Syria and Iraq and the Panshjer Valley in Afghanistan He had been filming there accompanied by the military and two armoured cars a far cry from five civilians and a minibusMonday arrived and I now had three days to visit friends and check out theatre Spent one day in Hampstead with a companion from this years earlier Iraq tour a mid seventish woman who bicycles all over London the UK Africa the world The next day she and I met another Iraqi tour participant an Ukrainian who may be moving to Moscow and had lunch while I spent the evening with a friend from my Mali trip she is interested in the SalalahUbarRub Al Khali possibility Im recruiting for that if I can get it togetherThe final day I had lunch with a young engineer a survivor of Afghani chickhanas And the evening was with a friend from my first Mid Eastern trip who is about as passionate about theatre and travel as I am The plays seen were The Pitman Painters at the Royal National excellent War Horse also a Royal National production outstanding total theatrical experience and Judgment Day at The Almeida dark Brechtian dramaAnd United upgraded me to Economyplus on the ride home What more could a girl wantCosts Airfare from SFO to LHR 83160 Christ Church conference including accommodation and meals amppound1200 Ancient World conference including meals amppound155 Accommodation in London including breakfast amppound250Best to All ampnbsp

find the names and characteristics of the trees and plants having a sauna dining in a Lapland hut made specially for them by people from Lapland and playing a typical Finnish game do not remember the name something like bowling but not at all specially on points but very funny They say every family in Finland has a Summer house but they do not like strange people to go there In this case the place belongs or did to the ladys grandfather She is married to a New Zealander guy and this young couple organize this and other tours there You can find them at httpwwwrudolfcitycom And as they say it is not just a sightseeing tourand I say not expensive Posted By: Reply: HiampnbspTravel in Finland and Sweden is easy Ryan Air if you like to fly Two ferries Slija and Viking if you like the water Great trains and buses Public transportation works well in both countries and everyone rides bicycles in both countries more in Sweden perhaps English is commonly spoken and understood too especially by anyone under 30 years of age I make this trip every year or two Sincerely Brian from the Los Angeles area Posted By: Reply: HeyIve spent a lot of time in Finland but not much in Sweden mostly Stockholm Finland is a kind of laidback country a great place to relax but frankly it comes up short on bigtime tourist trophies like the Eiffel Tower or the Tower of London You can see the tourist sights in Helsinki in a day But the real pleasantness in Helsinki comes from walking around or sitting and people watching on the Esplanadi Helsinkis transit system is extensive and pretty easy to use We spent the summer there a few years ago and only used transit The only train Ive used in Sweden is from Malmo to Stockholm a night train one way and the X2000 the other way so I cant say how good the train system is there but the X2000 was very nice on our first class Euro passes But I have ridden all over Finland on trains and the train system is very good and quite reasonable Obviously you could fly from Zurich to Copenhagen or Stockholm I think Helsinki is a bit more problematic but if I were doing this for the first time I think Id take a train even though its a 22hour trip Theres a highspeed ICE from Zurich to Freiburg connecting to a night train to Copenhagen Then there are frequent trains from Copenhagen to Stockholm via the new big bridge You could plan a days stopover in Copenhagen the train station is right across the street from Tivoli and only a block from the city square and pedestrianized shopping streets From Stockholm to Helsinki there is really only one way to go one of the big overnight ferries with their restaurants and nightclubs There are two choices the TallinkSilja line or the Viking line You depart from either end in the evening and arrive at the other in the morning In Stockholm weve enjoyed staying at the Queens Hotel httpwwwqueenshotelsehtmlroomshtml Its kind of an oldfashioned hotel above some of the businesses in the Drottninggatan the main shopping street which has been pedestrianized The street leads down the Gamla Stan the old city The hotel is walkable from the Central Terminal but because of its nature on the upper levels of a shopping block we had a hard time finding it We took a cab from the Terminal and the cabbie took us all over but couldnt find it which I found rather suspicious In Helsinki weve mostly stayed at relatives or in a flat rented from a family friend But we have stayed at the Hotel Helka httpwwwhelkafi Like the Queens Hotel its mostly above a business block but its very nice and rather Scandinavian the picture at their website looks like the furnishings came from IKEA though Both hotels include a very good breakfast I suggest you actually call the hotels to see if you can get a deal Weekends are usually cheaper for one thing For Helsinki should you wish I can tell you the some of the nontouristy places to go and relax Actually you may find Finnish tourists at them The big allnation tourist place is the large outdoor market at the head of the harbor Its kind of fun since the tour ships dump people there for a day and the Russians come there to shop Be aware that nothing is cheap in Scandinavia Ill include Finland in Scandinavia here There are no truly cheap hotels or restaurants although Helsinki has its share of pizza joints and hamburger franchises Hesburger is more popular than McDonalds I do recommend that you take one day to visit Tallinn Estonia only a few hours across the Gulf of Finland I have a recommendation I think Ill make from time to time If you are taking a WiFi laptop many hotels have free WiFi or Ethernet plugin connections If you install the free software for Skype you can call anywhere in the world for just a couple of cents a minute just talking into your computer This makes calling ahead for reservations in another country painless In fact Its a good way to call those hotels in Stockholm and Helsinki from home Posted By: Reply: Hello Weve travelled last summer to Stockholm and Finland and I concur with all that has been said before but Id like to add my impressions For us people in the Euro zone Sweden isnt expensive Stockholm city has the basic street prices of any other European town I discovered that restaurants are cheaper at midday with fixedprice meals and buffet lunches while dinner is alacarte and more expensive A cheap alternative are kiosks and 711 stores who sell unexpensive hot and cold food a large coffee and a cake for 2 euro for instance is less than what I pay at home Finland is generally more expensive than Sweden for the food but I found the hotels were cheaper maybe due to summer being low season as most Finns leave for their holidays then Driving around the countryside youll meet the traditional setup of gas stationshopcafe along the main roads sometimes its the only option available for a meal nevertheless the prices are moderate and the food isnt half bad All the people I had contact with spoke English sometimes a very good one but Id suggest you bring a little Finnish dictionary with you I remember driving a large roundabout several times till my daughter discovered in said dictionary that the word quotkeskustaquot on a sign meant quotcity centerquot and was not a town name Posted By:

<description>HelloI am new to this group I would like to know from the learned travelers if there is a good time to go to San Francisco I have wanted to go for a long time but I have been a chicken about traveling alone So is there a better time than some other time to go to this city I have heard the cynical answer allready and that is go before that big fabled earthquake happens and half the west coast drops into the ocean And yes I want to go when the economy is in such bad straits because I hope the hotels will be less expensive Recomondations for good and inexpensive diners sites and stores outlet malls would also be appreciatedThanks in advance ampnbsp

<title>Tips for Barcelona and Venice long</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/MfGOLQxUUFI/tips-barcelona-venice-long.html</link>
<description>Hi Im in the process of compiling tips for the 12 ports we visited on a Mediterranean Cruise this summer So far Ive only finished two but since I noticed that some will be going to Barcelona soon I decided to post them now We stayed a few days on land in both of these ports before and after the cruiseBARCELONA SPAINvibrant and lively architecturelovers paradise diverse neighborhoods three packed days and we barely scratched the surfaceHotel Hotel Colon in the historic Bari Gotic Gothic Quarter Older hotel with an impressive pedigree attractive common areas attentive staff spacious rooms dampeacutecor a little dated but comfortable beds Wonderful location for usdirectly across from the main cathedral not Sagrada Familia 5 minutes from midLas Ramblas interesting sights on every little street and alley We paid a little over 200 a night incl taxes did not opt for the breakfast at 20 euros httpwwwhotelcolonesenghotel Free walking tour of the Gothic Quarteryou can find free tours in many large cities this one was very enjoyable enthusiastic and knowledgable young guide took a group of about 20 young people and the 8 of us Boomers in and out of the neighborhood for over 25 hourseven bought us a beer at the end All for the price of an optional tip httpwwwbarcelonavibescomwalkingtourhtmGaudi Gaudi and more Gaudimy husband and I fell in love with this guy We visited Parc Guell park the Sagrada Familia cathedral the Casa Batllo former private home and La Pedrera apartment building Impossible to describe the genius of the architecture If I had seen nothing else the entire trip this alone would have been worth the journey httpwwwbarcelonatouristguidecomengaudibarcelonagaudihtmlBoqueria Market Dont let a soul tell you this place is too touristyits not to be missed Having roamed markets in Istanbul Fez and Tokyo we thought wed seen it allwe hadnt Located midLas Ramblas its a festival of colors aromas and activity fruit candy fish tapas and on and on The original market dates back to 1217 Allow lots of time to roam httptinyurlcomnuher2Dining experienceLos Caracoles The Snails in the Gothic Quarter 173 years old and bursting with character and personality To get to the dining rooms you walk right through the steamy hot kitchen Celebrity photocovered walls mostly from the 50s Tab Hunter was right above our table The charm MORE than made up for the uneven cooking snails tasty chicken dry rabbit uninspired but maybe the chef was out sick that night At least stop in for drinks httpwwwloscaracolesesTapason our last night we stumbled upon this tapas barrestaurant in the waterfront Ribiera neighborhood while searching for another place Im glad we didnt find it Comfortable leather couches great sangria delicious tapas beautifully presented Web site in Spanish only wmap httpclassicgoticesVENICE ITALYmade one of the most incredible first impressions in any of my travels a feast for the eyes NOT smelly NOT dirty However more style than substance too many tourist shops and restaurants locals are tired of us and who wouldnt be Conclusion You havent seen the world until youve seen VeniceHotel Starhotels Splendid Venicea great choice Pretty and modern dampeacutecor comfy beds perfect location midway between San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge excellent hotcold buffet breakfast private dock on a small canal We paid approx 194 per night incl bfast and taxes httptinyurlcomoymdjx Water taxi WARNINGwe splurged on a private water taxi to transport us and our luggage from the airport to our hotel and from the hotel to the ship Split eight ways it came to approx 35 per couple each waywell worth it for doorto door service Note by booking in advance online with Clementson Travel Office we saved about 20HOWEVER just minutes before we were to be picked up to go to the ship we were told that the water level in the canals had risen too high for the taxi to get under the bridges in the minor canals We would have to transport eight peoples luggage through the streets and crowds and up and down the bridges to the Rialto Bridge and meet the taxi there Long story short we hired porters to take the luggage and with persistence we were able to get a refund from the Clementson Travel Office for the full amount of the fare LESSON You are at the mercy of the tidesplan accordinglyCrowds and heatVenice and most ports on the trip were hot and crowded in July Not unbearable we live in South Florida but we vowed not to return to this part of Europe in the summer if possible We were very lucky to get just a sprinkling of rain the entire 16 daysAs firsttimers in Venice we mostly just walked around and took it all in If you stray far enough you can get away from the crowds Some things we enjoyed Peggy Guggenheim Collectionher former home in a beautiful locale on the Grand Canal interesting and eclectic art collection Do some research about her life before you go Vivaldi concert every night there are several performances of Vivaldi works he was a resident of Venice at various venues we enjoyed a chamber ensemble doing The Four Seasons Cipriani Hotelwe took the free shuttle to this luxurious hotel on a private islandenjoyed poolside Bellinis and a taste of the high life Gondola ridehalf the fun was bargaining with the gondolier perhaps the romance was missing because the eight of us sharing two gondolas spent most of the time shooting pictures of each otherLocal attitudeas I said above theyre tired of tourists and I dont blame them When you ask for directions most will be polite and give them even if they dont know what youre asking Almost all of the time theyre the wrong directions But it doesnt matteryou get to see more of VeniceHappy travels ampnbsp

      <title>Oz again</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/mupd6dGxle4/oz-again.html</link>
<description>HelloIts time for my escape from the dreary gray of Eugenes winters to Australia again this time for 4 months A friend is going to join me for 2 weeks in February ampamp we want to explore New South Wales Weve enjoyed the Blue Mountains ampamp Jenolan Caves ampamp because my daughter ampamp family have emigrated to Australia ampamp are living in Warriewood Ive wandered all over the Northern Beaches area ampamp Karigal ampamp as far north as Hawks Nest ampamp Tea Gardens on the coast Wed like to focus on south ampamp west of Sydney We like walking birding botanical gardens ampamp funky stuff off the beaten track We often stay in the more sedate backpackers accoms guesthouses or the Y More than a couple of days in a big city makes me crazySo should we look at renting a campervan to give us flexibility in poking around Or should we look at the county link busrail pass that can take us most places I love searching out the roadside attractions like the banana at Coffs Harbour ampamp I know there are some in southern NSW Any we should look for Thanks ampnbsp Reply: HiPlease excuse the brevity of this answer but theres rather a lot going on in our lives just nowIn answer to your questions I would definitely hire a camper van or some sort of vehicle anyway to give you the flexibility you will need As for the quirky and kitsch attractions like the Big Banana that you mentioned Well if you like that sort of thing theres still the Big Merino in Goulburn httpwwwbigmerinocomau and the Ettamogah Pub httpenwikipediaorgwikiEttamogahPub near Albury There are others too but youll have to search for them Overall I have the impression that as a nation we are not quite as keen on these monstrosities as we used to be but maybe Im wrongIMHO Jervis Bay is definitely worth a visit for a few days It has pristine white sand beaches and lots of beautiful bush It shouldnt be too crowded in February except at weekendsActually the whole south coast is worth a visit and many Sydney people have moved there to make their visit permanentBest wishes ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiYoure an experienced Aussie traveller now so we probably dont have to tell you that February in Sydney is stinking hot and humid So stick to the coast or head into high country for your travels I agree with Michael get a campervan or other vehicle February isnt too busy because school is back after the long summer holidays although right on the coast will still be busy at the weekends Most caravan parks have onsite vans and cabins that offer reasonably priced accommodation if you didnt want to drive a campervanIf you havent been there yet spend a few hours at Mt Annan Botanical Gardens to see the native Australian flora There are usually guided walks but next Februarys dates arent posted yet Have a look at httpwwwrbgsydnswgovau for details Personally if I was going in February Id get there early before the heat really sets in and dont forget your sunhat and waterYou might enjoy the drive to Wollongong stopping for the views at Bulli Pass Another great coastal experience would be to drive to the Sea Cliff Bridge and walk over it Have a look at httpwwwgrandpacificdrivecomau to get a feel for the area The township of Berry is a pretty arts and crafts village and theres plenty of little towns all along the south coast that you might like Id also recommend Kangaroo Valley From the top of the mountain there are terrific views to the coast httpwwwvisitnswcom will give you information If you hug the coast then Mollymook Ulladulla and all the way to Eden have good little spots to stayIf youre thinking of heading inland a bit and havent been to Canberra then its worth a few days but its likely to be over 40 degrees C each day so if you go then plan for a museum or something inside in the middle of the dayThe area around Cooma and Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains would also be good in February as theyre higher and coolerRegards ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiDefinitely hire a car the South Coast train line ends at Nowra so you really wouldnt see much of the area if you only travelled by trainComing down the coast from Sydney I would suggest driving through the National Park entry is just south of Sutherland perhaps visiting some of the beaches and the small town of Bundeena There are also lots of walks in the park ranging from bushwalks to walking along the coastal cliffs The drive down the coast from there to Wollongong is quite spectacular in places especially along the Sea Cliff BridgeSouth of Wollongong the towns of Kiama Gerringong and Berry a dairy farming area and Jervis Bay are all worth a visitThe Princes Highway is the main road south but I would suggest you take the minor roads which hug the coastline The highway is single lane in many places and carries a lot of cars and truck so it can be slowgoing and as with most main roads there is not as much to see as on the quieter country roadsAll along the South Coast there are caravan parks with onsite vanscabins and many of these are right on the beach eg Easts Beach at South Kiama a number in the Jervis Bay area Batemans Bay Tathra Merimbula etcLiving in Wollongong Im probably a bit biased about this part of the state but Im sure youd enjoy a visit to this areaRegards ampnbsp Posted By:

      <title>Mugging Money</title>
      <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeriyatrraTravelQuestionAnswer/~3/DKYKjVZSTmI/mugging-money.html</link>
<description>HiI was scanning through some travel magazines and one suggested carrying a wallet separate from other valuables or in an outside pocket The mugger will usually run aftergetting the moneyHas anyone ever carried extra money just in case youre robbedBestampnbsp Reply: HiI have never been mugged and hope I will never be Or I should say that I have been but by some kids when I was akid that doesnt count though for an adviceMy impression is that in some places in the US and in many places in South and Central America your chances of being mugged are higher In Europe for instance I would worry more about pickpockets Both are very unpleasant the former more so as you get usually threatened maybe even at gun point Usually the robbers would want all your valuables quickly so it makes sense to keep your money separately However if they suspect you have got more they might get aggressive One clue for them might even be the fact that you keep your documents somewhere else so you may have some more money along It all depends on the time they thinkthey haveA friend told she got mugged at gun point in Philadelphia while coming back home from the library and she just gave them her purse although she had no money in it They ran with it but I guess you can never know The bottomline is to comply when you are threatened as for the strategies you make beforehand either can fail but you do have more chances of not losing documents and money if you split them and keep them in different places But then I know of the story of an American medical student in Venezuela at a student meeting He catched a cab from the hotel to the airport and the cab driver pulled over in the middle of nowhere and got everything from him at gun point including his clothes Not much that you can do against such aquotmugging techniquequot other than not to travel in those areasor be extremely weary of everyone and everything around youAs against the pickpockets I know it works best to keep your valuables and documents as close as possible to your body and as much as possible to the front so you can see what is happening Hardly accessible pockets could work fine The trousers backpocket is always a very easy target the same for the shirt pockets The interior jacket pockets are ok most of the time but not always The front pocket especially on bluejeans its almost impossible for them to get Alternatively a lanyard attached flat wallet worn under the shirt might be the best place for you passport most of the credit cards and cash you would carry Keep the less valuable stuff in a regular wallet along with little cash and then you may worry a little less about losing that You can always go to a restroom and transfer stuff between the twoTake care and have safe travels ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hello If you carry your valuables in a quottummy bankquot one of those soft safe keepers you wear tight around your waist under your clothes you will most likely avoid loss The ones worn around the neck arent as secure even under most clothing because the strings are visible amp rather flimsy Worn over the clothes the things just scream quotTake thisquot This is exactly what happened to one of the members of a group going to Guatemala two years ago amp it happened in the DallasairportOn another trip one of my group had put his passport in the lower seemingly safely zipped lower pocket of his cargo pants even after I had urged him to leave it with our bus driver who stayed with the bus Within minutes of entering the market at Chichicastenango a notorious pickpocket locale he had lost the passport to a thief I dont normally take groups to Chichi for that reason but this bunch really wanted to go Weve stuck to Antigua amp Solola when were in Guatemala these days though weve had thefts of cameras in the market at Solola when folks dont have thestraps firmly wrapped around the wristOn my own in Barcelona a few years ago I wandered too far from the touristy area around Las Ramblas as I am wont todo Out of nowhere came two young toughs running right at meamp I knew they intended thievery amp very possibly bodily harm Without even thinking I swung my very heavy amp antiquated Canon SLR camera on its strap in a wide arc in front of me with all my strength amp it so startled them that they turnedamp ran back up the alley I guess the surprise of a lady withgray hair swinging a heavy object amp screaming like a bansheewas more than they expected I had all my valuables in mytummy bank so they would only have gotten the camera Itwas not the best thing to do but it was pure instinctWhen out amp about in places where you want to concentrate on seeing everything you may miss the cues for a potential theft or mugging Carry only what you can afford to lose or what you can carry firmly in your hand so you can enjoy the experience amp not worry overmuch Even though Ive tramped around this world a lot over the years I have only been the victim of theft once amp that was in a marketplace in Honolulu amp it was due to my not following my own commonsense rule amp carrying my purse in an open totebag ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: Hello I grew up in NYC I did it growing up amp I do it when I travel Put the stuff you dont want to lose in a money belt or hidden pocket ON YOUR PERSON not a purse Keep a dummy wallet with money in your easily accessible pocket If mugged give them the dummy wallet OR throw it in one direction amp run in the opposite direction while yelling for helpI never had to do it but have had friends that have done it successfullyHappy amp safe travelsampnbsp Posted By:

<description>Hi I just booked through Priceline two nights at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel located at 1127 Connecticut Avenue Northwest Washington DC 20036 My first bid 80 was accepted which drives me nuts since it means I probably could have bid lower Oh wellAnyway luckily the tripadvisor reviews are pretty good but they do mention a 40 per day parking fee if we park at the hotel I wondered if anyone had some suggestions on less expensive parking options within the city Once were there we dont plan to use the car until we leave on Monday around lunchtimeIve even considered parking at the airport and taking the metro in SuggestionsThanks ampnbsp Reply: HiThe Metro has parking lots at the ends of the line You should be able to park at one of the ends of the metro line and take the metro into your DC destination From NorthCarolina you can look into one of the northern virginia end of line stops and park your car there Go to the Metro website for a map of the system and potential parkinglocationshttpwwwwmatacomampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiThere are a lot of public lots in the area of the Mayflower that are cheaper Heres a link that shows parking garagesin DC httpwwwpmiparkingcomOn the top menu click on quotGaragesquot then choose quotdowntown Washingtonquot Youll see a map with lots of little icons Connecticut Ave is center and slightly left If you mouse over the icons it gives the address of the lot Then you can click quotmore infoquot and it gives rates and hours Looks like most parking is 15 a day with variable night rates of from 550 to 1000 as far as I explored One thing I noticed they are all closed on Sunday If you are going to be hereover a Sunday that could be a problemAlternatively you could park at Reagan National airport and take the metro as you said The rates for economy parking are 1200 a day Youd have to take the shuttle to the terminal and then get the Metro ampnbsp Posted By: Reply: HiBe careful about parking overnight at the Metro parking lots The Metro website says quotThere is no overnight or reserved parking at Metrooperated lotsquot But there are other postings google quotCan I park overnight at the Shady Grove Metro Station parking lotquot that indicate people get around the Metro policy Ive like to use Metro lots when traveling from National Airport but have been concernedthat car would be ticketed or towedAnother page httpwwwwmatacomrailparking saysMultiday parking is available at three stations Greenbelt Huntington and FranconiaSpringfield Each of these stations has between 15 and 17 spaces allocated for multi day use of up to 10 days Availability is on a firstcome firstserved basis There is no charge for multiday parking beyond the regular fee paid with a SmarTrip card on the day of exit if exiting during collection hours 1030 am midnight on Monday Thursday and 1030 am 3 amFridayThese spaces located inside the regular facilities and notat the metered Kiss amp Ride spaces are at1 Level 1J at FranconiaSpringfield station2 The lower level of the new Huntington station garage3 Cherrywood Lane side at Greenbelt stationThe Virginia parking rules may be differentGood luck and let us know how you make out ampnbsp Posted By:
