Songs of December is the first seasonal recording from music icon Paul Anka in more than 50 years. Recorded at both the legendary Capitol Studios and Ocean Way Recording Studio in Los Angeles, California, Songs of December features eleven holiday classics produced by the original ‘teen idol’, Paul Anka. The album includes guest arrangements by David Foster, Johnny Mandel, Patrick Williams and Chris Walden and was engineered and mixed by the legendary Al Schmitt. The album will be available November 15th on Decca.

“Music has always filled my home, especially around the holidays, and when the idea of recording these seasonal standards came about, I couldn’t resist,” comments Anka. “I hope that my interpretation of these ‘Yuletide’ chestnuts will fill your home with joy and good cheer.”

For many people, winter marks a special period of closeness with family and friends — and the height of the holidays bring with them the bounty of seasonal songs known by heart and sang with joy in living rooms and street corners everywhere. As he enters his seventh decade of recording, Tony Bennett – who celebrated his 85th birthday on August 3, 2011 – looks back on countless memorable productions over the years. THE CLASSIC CHRISTMAS ALBUM, is a microcosm of many of those settings.

Tony’s landmark 1968 LP, Snowfall: The Tony Bennett Christmas Album, was a lush orchestral session arranged and conducted by Robert Farnon, working with Columbia staff producer Jack Gold. Farnon was a frequent collaborator of Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, and of course Tony, the only survivor of that golden generation of singers. From that LP come five tracks: “Winter Wonderland,” Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things,” Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song,” and the medley of “I Love The Winter Weather/I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm.”

Moving ahead three decades, THE CLASSIC CHRISTMAS ALBUM reprises a track by Tony with the venerable backing of the Ralph Sharon Quartet, “Christmas In Herald Square” (from 1998′s The Playground).

In 2001, Tony released the critically acclaimed Sony Classical album, Our Favorite Things, a collaboration with the Ralph Sharon Quartet and an orchestra arranged and conducted by Jorge Calandrelli. From that album come “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and the traditional “The First Noël,” with a guest appearance by tenor virtuoso Placido Domingo.

Sessions with the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, orchestrated by Robert Farnon and conducted by Don Jackson, led to an album for Hallmark Music in 2001, Christmas With Tony Bennett. From that album come four standards, “Deck The Halls,” “O Little Town Of Bethlehem,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Silent Night.”

THE CLASSIC CHRISTMAS ALBUM comes right up to date with selections from 2008′s aptly titled A Swingin’ Christmas, featuring the Count Basie Big Band: “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” “Christmas Time Is Here” (from the CBS-TV show, A Charlie Brown Christmas), “Silver Bells,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and Irving Berlin’s “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm.”

Libera’s long-awaited Christmas album features a mixture of popular secular and sacred Christmas and winter holiday repertoire. Ideally suited to this type of music, the boy band’s unique “celestial sounds for the modern age” are aimed at music lovers seeking peace and respite in the midst of today’s chaotic world.

(Nashville, Tennessee…) – Award-winning duo Joey+Rory have set October 11, 2011 as the release date for their A Farmhouse Christmas album on Vanguard/Sugar Hill Records. In a unique move for holiday albums, 10 of the 12 cuts on the new cd are either new songs or cuts never released as Christmas songs.
The farmhouse Christmas theme for this album is right at home for the duo, as their personal lives are rooted in the 1870’s farmhouse where they live in the small community of Pottsville, TN. “We made this record with hopes of trying to bring the listener into our home and share a small piece of our world at Christmas time with them,” Joey says. “Christmas means so much to Joey and me,” Rory adds. “It brings on so many feelings that other times of the year just don’t. We seem to laugh (and eat) more, think deeper, reminisce more, and for a short time, most of our priorities all to come into perspective”.
“Some people might wonder why we haven’t filled this record with more of the Christmas standards,” said Rory. “Well, the truth is, we feel like that’s what everyone seems to do, and we’d rather try to add a new song or two to the list of holiday classics that people listen to every Christmas, rather than just give them another take on the songs we all know and love.”
Humor is interspersed among touching original songs that fall right in line with Joey+Rory’s faith. The Garth Brooks and Kent Blazy-penned “I Know What Santa’s Getting for Christmas” is nothing but playful fun, and “What the Hell, It’s the Holidays” is as entertaining as it is irreverent. The spend-the-holiday-at-the-beach themed anthem “Let It Snow (Somewhere Else) that Joey+Rory wrote with James Slater and Tim Johnson, was aptly penned while at a songwriter festival in Key West. And “Another Wonderful Christmas” shows that the holidays are, at times, more like “Christmas Vacation” than “It’s a Wonderful Life” around the Feek household.
Rory wrote the beautiful original album opener “It’s Christmas Time” during a visit to Joey’s family farmhouse in Indiana. “I woke up one morning and found myself thinking about what it must have been like when Joey was a little girl, waking up all those Christmas mornings in that very house.” Montana’s own Stephanie Davis wrote “The Diamond O” and “The Gift” for the album, the latter of which Rory calls, “an absolute masterpiece.” Of Joey’s personal favorite on the album, “Remember Me,” Rory says, “Some songs you labor and labor over and some just seem to magically write themselves. This one was all magic.”
“Away In A Manger” and “Blue Christmas” are the two solo standards on A Farmhouse Christmas, but another highlight is an unlikely song for the holidays. Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December” was never meant to be a Christmas song, but Joey+Rory felt it fit perfect. “We can’t begin to tell you what an honor it is to have Merle singing on it with us,” said Joey. “There are some dreams that even when they come true, you still think you must be dreaming… and this is one.”
A Farmhouse Christmas was produced by Gary Paczosa and Carl Jackson and will be available everywhere this Christmas season. A Farmhouse Christmas concert tour is in the works, and details will be released shortly.

Skaggs And The Whites Will Make Appearances During IBMA Week

Kenny Rogers will embark on his annual Christmas & Hits Tour on November 25 in Columbus, Ohio. Merge Records announced they will release the group’s holiday-themed “A Very She & Him Christmas” on October 25.

The duo’s third album, “Christmas” includes their take on such seminal yuletide tunes as “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “The Christmas Song” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” A stripped-down, intimate affair, many of the tracks were recorded with solely acoustic guitar and vocals.

In the meantime, you can get your Zooey fix by watching the premiere episode of her new FOX comedy “New Girl,” or by seeing her in the film comedy “Our Idiot Brother,” in theaters now.

Dean Martin died in 1995. And he’s never sounded better.

That’s according to his website and a rush of publicity from none other than sultry actress Scarlett Johansson who duets with Martin in his “new” Christmas album “My Kind of Christmas”.

“Growing up in New York City, Christmas was never Christmas without Dino,” said Johansson. “Recording in the studio with Mr. Martin in my headphones felt as though he were standing right next to me, crooning with that mischievous gleam in his eye. When I was asked to sing on this album, it was literally a childhood dream come true.”

We’ve known for a few days that Biebz is recording a Christmas album. (One that will raise money for an unannounced charity, he Tweeted last week.) And Team Bieber has since shared a few more details about the release.

It’ll be “all originals,” Tweeted the pop star’s manager, Scooter Braun. And going off Biebz’s recent Tweet-put, there’s a decent chance the Christmas collection will feature guest spots from his pals. (The famous-est ones, anyway.)

“Yeah we are going hard for Christmas!! #mistletoe,” Bieber wrote in reply to a Tweet from manager Braun, one talking up the holiday material Bieber has already recorded.

Following that message, Bieber Tweeted: “Had a great studio session with my big bro @seankingston and the talented @jonathanrotem.” (If you want to start a rumour around your high school that Bieber’s putting together something Christmassy with his “Eenie Meenie” pal and producer J.R. Rotem, we won’t stop you.)

MTV News notes that Bieber’s been logging more studio sessions than the one mentioned above, though — and that includes one with producer Kuk Harrell (Rihanna, Katy Perry) and Taylor Swift. “Wow!! Got to see @justinbieber & @taylorswift13 write a song together last night!!” Harrell wrote in a message retweeted by Bieber. “SMASH!!!! SMASH!!! SMASH!!! Let’s do it again y’all!!!”

Swift did grow up on a Christmas Tree farm…but still, MTV News reports that Bieber’s been working on more than just the Christmas project. So until he starts Tweeting the tracklisting, it’s unclear whether all these collabs will turn up in your stocking.

“[I'm] writing about how I feel and producing,” he told the outlet. “I’ve been producing on my laptop and on my computer. I’ve been really into it and, hopefully, this next album will be huge,” he said, adding that in terms of sound, he’s “done a lot on my acoustic guitar, so it’s gonna have that vibe.”

A release date for Bieber’s Christmas album has yet to be announced.

According to an announcement posted today (9/6/11) on the Canadian crooner’s official website, the multi Grammy Award winning singer will be releasing his new CD on October 24 (10/24/11).

Fans can pre-order a limited fan edition which includes: “Christmas” on CD, 3 bonus tracks, plus an exclusive ornament tucked inside extended album packaging.

The “Haven’t Met You Yet” hitmaker has been leaking weekly teaser information, including album cover photo artwork and tracking information, to help get fans pumped up for the official release.

The album, which is being handled once again by Crazy Love producers David Foster and Bob Rock, include covers of Bing Crosby’s “‘White Christmas,” Elvis’ “Blue Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” with the U.K. swing trio the Puppini Sisters, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You,” an original track co-written with musical director Alan Chang and a duet with fellow Canuck superstar Shania Twain.

The star tweeted, Get a first listen to Michael’s new album “Christmas”! Tune in again 9/6 (6th September) for an exclusive announcement. He then posted a link to this YouTube video (below).

Earlier in the summer during a 30 minute web chat during the star revealed ‘Jingle Bells’ is his favourite Christmas song of all time, ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ is his favourite Christmas movie and he can get in the Christmas mood at any time of the year.

Speaking from the world famous Capitol Studios in Hollywood, Buble revealed “I’m making a Christmas record (album). For those of you who know me and love me and admire me you will know…Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Mum and Dad gave us lots of love at Christmas and that’s what I want to give back to people and I get sentimental when I think about it. Late October or early early November I smell Christmas.”

For Skaggs, a 14-time Grammy® winner, the FAMILY CHRISTMAS projects are a true labor of love. “We released Volume One back in 2005 because our fans asked us for it,” Ricky recalls. “We didn’t know if we’d ever do another one, but we’ve been hearing from our fans and they’re ready for more Christmas songs, so here’s Volume Two. Actress/singer Zooey Deschanel is coming out with a Christmas album this year.

The (500) Days of Summer star and her She & Him bandmate M. Ward have been busy working on A Very She & Him Christmas, due to hit record stores in time for the 2011 holiday season.

In a post on Twitter, Deschanel tells fans: “Exciting news! She And Him will be releasing our first holiday record later this year! Been working on it a while! I’m super pumped about it!”

The duo already has one famous fan eager to hear the festive collection – pop star Kelly Clarkson tweeted, “Let me just say right now how freakin’ excited I am about a holiday record from She And Him.”
