PTZ and dome cameras deployed to meet diverse needs

The factory building consists of three main areas: the office area for administration, product demostration and customer reception; the manufacturing area for production; and the stock area for storage and shipping handling. Realizing each area varies in sizes and security requirements, the MESSOA PTZ and dome cameras were recommended for this project.

First, the SDS730PRO PTZ cameras are installed on both the interior and exterior walls for securing the premises. Penghu County strengthens landfill site supervision with MESSOA solution

As the local government focusing on promoting tourism industry in Penghu County, an archipelago off the western coast of Taiwan, it has fueled an island-wise construction boom in recent years. Such development generated lots of residual rocks and earth, which need be disposed. In light of such demand, Penghu County Government set up a landfill site near a remote village of Shagang several years ago for the earthwork residual treatment. However, due to lack of on-site supervision, the site soon became a threat to the nearby environment and the local public because of haphazard dumping. Hence, the county government was looking for a surveillance camera deployment in order to keep the site organized.

Solution

CCTV 700TVL Camera---SCR 368

The MESSOA SCR368 high-performance Infrared cameras are deployed to monitor the entrance gate of the 2-hectare site with a landfill capacity of 60,000 cubic meters. Cameras are installed on a metal truss next to the manually-controlled gate to provide a clear overview of the entrance.

One camera is mounted 3 meters high for capturing vehicle information on type, shape and license plate numbers. The other camera is mounted 5 meters above-ground to let authority officials see what exactly the content is loaded in the dump trucks’ rear container as they pull up to the gate. Each camera is coupled with the MESSOA NVS121H video server, from which the image streams are sent via internet to an NVR system at the county government office, where staff could monitor the entrance remotely anytime without having to physically pay visits to the site.

In addition of its streamlined, compact profile, the SCR368 camera is chosen for this project due to its 700TVL high-resolution and super-low light performance with the built-in infra-red illumination as there is limited lighting on-site. The intelligent cable management is an ideal feature for this project that requires easy installation, weather-proof design and minimum maintenance. The performance is further enhanced by digital Wide Dynamic Range capability and the proprietary Lumii™ III imaging technology, allowing the camera to deliver crystal sharp images in extremely adverse light situations all the time.

Following the successful deployment, haphazard dumping has been significantly reduced. Real-time video streams of the monitored scene are available for remote access to keep track of the vehicle information. The Penghu County government officials are particularly impressed with the image quality at night where truck activities are usually the most frequent. Vehicle information can be effortlessly identified in pitch dark night even with the presence of high contrast headlights getting in the way.

Located at northern Colombia, the city of Santa Marta is a popular tourist destination due to its colonial past and proximity to the Caribbean Sea. Job opportunities have drawn many Colombians to the city in recent years, but the urban development cannot catch up with the surging population and vehicles, which have led to congested roads and increase in traffic infractions.

To mitigate the problems encountered, Santa Marta’s traffic authority decided to apply stricter law enforcement while prohibiting cars with certain license plates from being on the road during rush hours on certain days to stop traffic conditions deteriorating further. To ensure the policies could be effectively enforced, the authority officials decided to deploy surveillance cameras at 10 strategic locations throughout Santa Marta.

Result

With the help of traffic surveillance technology, the restrictive car policy and traffic law can be effectively enforced in Santa Marta. The authority officials are especially impressed with the performance of the MESSOA’s surveillance solution as traffic violation and congestion have been notably alleviated since the deployment. 100 year old building presents unique installation challenges

However, there were several challenges to this job. Built in 1916, the museum itself in an ancient, concrete relic. This meant that there were several restrictions about how the cameras could be mounted. Some parts of the building couldn't use traditional concrete mounts. Also, traditional and complex cabling presents a big challenge to this old building. Those weren't the only conditions. The cameras had to be advanced enough to obtain clear images while being unintrusive in order to keep up with the old America atmosphere.

Thompson Network, a Pennsylvania-based SI providing voice and data solutions, looked at past security solutions and decided to use a MESSOA IP System, which provides cost-effective remote surveillance at a fair price. Zara is a Spanish clothing store that is quickly expanding worldwide. China currently has over 200 Zara stores and counting. Several of these new stores needed interior surveillance. Messoa LPR Traffic Camera Watches Yunlin County Streets

Network video is one of the most useful tools for fighting crime and protecting citizens, acting both to detect and deter. It creates a secure environment and can help first responders pinpoint where their assistance is most needed.

Yunlin County, in Taiwan, started the implementation of a strategic video surveillance project in January 2010. The job required key territories in the city to be monitored 24/7.

To meet the security demands of the municipalities, a Messoa local partner implemented various video surveillance solutions. This project would be a vital part of the local authorities’ strategy for keeping the city safe and providing a higher standard of life for its citizens.

This helped local police officers to protect local residents from crime and helped launch a much wider crime and disorder partnership initiative. As the project progressed, the City of Yunlin chose to install a total of 60 Messoa SCR515PRO traffic cameras at numerous locations across the city.

Three town centres – Douliu, Lin Neixiang and Xilno – got to experience the latest Messoa traffic camera, SCR515PRO. As the Yunlin Country police director explains: "We chose Messoa because of the quality and reliability of their products, notably the high resolution images from its cameras, even over IP, and the quality of its streaming. Being wireless means no hard wiring was required, making installation much easier but without sacrificing quality. Single sourcing also made sense, and the level of support from Messoa, especially with the commissioning process, has been excellent."

Operators control the cameras remotely from Police Headquarters, giving police officers an opportunity to assess the situation and make preparations before approaching an area.

To date, more than 60 Messoa SCR515PRO traffic cameras have been installed, and the solution has proven itself to be fully satisfactory to all municipalities involved. In particular, a reduction in crime has been recorded thanks to the extremely sharp images captured by the cameras even in situations with limited visibility or difficult weather conditions.

The MESSOA SDF446, a high-resolution, fixed dome CCTV camera has been installed at the Kiatnakin Bank in Thailand. The SDF446 is being used to monitor the counter. It has helped security officials keep track of exactly how much money has changed hands. The bank has been happy with the performance and has plans to install the SDF446 in their other branches.

Kiatnakin Bank was founded in 1971 and has transformed itself into one of the biggest banks in all of Thailand. With branches all over the country, they provide the Thai people with all their banking needs. In 2008, Kiatnakin received an “Excellent” rating for corporate governance from the Thai Institute of Directors.

A high quality bank needs high quality surveillance. So Kiatnakin contracted Siam Administrative Management Co., (SAMCO) to design a surveillance solution that would help officials monitor the bank. Established in 1994, SAMCO provides full cycle administrative support services to meet the needs of both public and private organizations. They provide CCTV and alarm monitoring services to over 400 banks including SCB Bank, and AEON Bank.

Previous Camera Had Blurry Images
Sharp pictures are vital for bank security. Problems such as check fraud, robberies, and suspicious activity needed to be recorded. However, Kiatnakin bank previously used cameras that showed blurry, unfocused pictures. This was a major headache for security. They couldn’t even identify the amount of money being exchanged. That’s when SAMCO recommended the MESSOA SDF446.

The SDF446 Shows Every Detail
The SDF446 was specifically chosen for its outstanding image clarity. Utilizing a 1/3” SONY CCD, the SDF446 delivers 600 TV lines resolution that is capable of showing even the smallest detail. Day/Night functionality switches from color to b/w mode automatically, depending upon available light. This enables the camera to capture crisp, clear color and b/w video in as little as 0.015 lux of light.

Also, only MESSOA could provide Lumii™ II – a combination of sophisticated image capture technology. One feature of Lumii™ II that caught the attention of bank officials was the ability to reduce image noise even in low light conditions. Too much noise can ruin picture clarity and thus make an image unreadable. Additionally, the noisy images take up more room on a hard drive. Lumii™ II greatly enhances camera sensitivity and thus reduces camera noise, resulting in crystal clear pictures. This makes identifying people, money and objects hassle-free.

Still, there was the issue of uneven lighting. Some parts of the bank were brighter than others due to a variety of reasons such as sun glare from the entrance. The resulting security images had parts that were too bright while others were too dark. Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and Backlight Compensation (BLC) were the solution to this problem. WDR ensures dark areas in an image are visible while retaining details in bright areas. BLC ensures bright and clear images under strong backlit scenes.

The Messoa NCR870 cameras were installed outside. The NCR870 was chosen because the camera is a ready to go out the box infrared (IR) camera that is able to see even in total darkness. 24 high quality IR illuminators built around the lens reveal crystal clear pictures even in the darkest night as far as 25 meters (82 ft). With IP67-rated all-weatherproof, aluminum casing, the NCR870 ensures reliable operation in any environment. This camera proved ideal for the hot Congo weather.

The Messoa SDS750PRO cameras were installed outside. The SDS750PRO is a speed dome security camera with low lux capabilities. A Sony EXview CCD, 128X Wide Dynamic Range and Day/Night function with ICR ensures 24 hour monitoring in even the most difficult conditions. An LED Illuminator was added for long distance illumination of up to 160 meters (525 ft.).

Tahuin Dam in Ecuador got MESSOA for efficient security protection (Ecuador)

The Tahuin Dam was built in 1977. It served to promote the development of the Province of El Oro in Ecuador. It is also used to as storage for drinking water, flood control in low lying areas, power generation, and water sports such as boating.

In addition to security concerns, the dam had to be monitored for any leaks and deterioration. However, there were many complexities when adding a surveillance system to this dam. Officials wanted cameras installed in a dark tunnel. Dam tunnels are damp, humid, and often have poor or high contrast lighting. They also wanted to install a camera right next to a water fall. The cameras had to be able to withstand water, humidity and dust. They also needed to be able to capture pictures in dark environments with weak lighting.

The Chosen One

The MESSOA SCB261 was chosen to safeguard the dam.

The camera can view clear images even in low light environments. Image noise is reduced and even dark images are clear with exclusive Lumii™ technology. Night time graininess is reduced thus saving storage space. It can even obtain pictures in pitch black situations (0.003 lux) like in tunnels. Equipped with a 1/3” Sony CCD, the SCB261 offers improved sensitivity and color reproduction compared to other cameras. ICR Day/Night technology can automatically change from Color Mode to B&W Mode and boost the resolution from 540 TVL to 600 TVL.

Armored Protection

All cameras have been equipped with the SLI070. The SLI070 is a strong housing that can protect it from dust, wind, salt, and even being submerged in up to 1m of water (complies with IP67). This housing is resistant to impacts and protects the SCB261 in all conditions thanks to being made out of die-cast aluminum. It has a long range IR function of 70 meters. Easy installation made it the perfect choice for the dam.

IP Application

The MESSOA SCB261 can be attached to a video server making it a complete IP Solution. It is a cost-effective, web-based solution that allows users to monitor, control, and manage the cameras using just a computer. Authorized users can access the camera from anywhere, thus help the dam to achieve a more meticulous control.

The giant panda is one of the most recognized and studied animals in the world today. When China gave the Taipei Zoo two giant pandas in December 2008, the Taiwanese public responded enthusiastically. The Taipei Zoo, which is owned by the Taipei City Government, has now selected MESSOA’s SDS710M PTZ speed-dome cameras for monitoring of the pandas’ zone.

These cameras feature integrated auto-tracking software that provides zoo staff in the security control room with 24-hour surveillance of the pandas, ensuring that staff are able to monitor the pandas’ activities and track their movements around the clock. These kinds of video records are extremely valuable to scientists and those from the zoo are sure to make a major contribution to global panda research.

The PTZ speed domes feature absolute-coordinate-axis positioning (via two-way RS485) and integrated auto-tracking software, facilitating 24-hour monitoring and observation of giant panda behaviors. They also integrate high-performance zooms with superfine 0.02° pan controls to deliver exceptionally smooth tracking that facilitates capture of moving subjects. The cameras pan at up to 430° per second and tilt at up to 200° per second, allowing quick and efficient capture of the pandas.

Giant pandas are an endangered species native to the mountains of central China. They are typically found at elevations between 1,400 and 3,500 feet in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu Provinces. The Taipei Zoo constructed its Xinguang Special Exhibit House specifically to provide the two giant pandas sent to Taiwan with a similar, suitable habitat. The building’s three comfortable and health-centric indoor enclosures are all air conditioned and maintain the interior humidity at 60–70% all year round. Given that the MESSOA SDS710M operates flawlessly in 20–80% relative humidity and is IP66/67-compliant indeed, it was the perfect choice for the conditions inside the panda enclosures. The Taipei Zoo has selected the MESSOA SDS710M to monitor its precious pandas and track their behavior, confident that the cameras will deliver outstanding performance and reliability over the long term.

Opened in early 2010, the the Santa Rosa International Airport in El Oro, Ecuador enable growth and development for Ecuador by encouraging new opportunities for growth in business and tourism. Government officials have chosen to secure the airport with MESSOA cameras.

In early 2010, the Santa Rosa International Airport in El Oro, Ecuador opened to the public. This airport deals with both cargo and passenger traffic. The new airport will enable growth and development for Ecuador by encouraging new opportunities for growth in business and tourism. It offers flights to major cities in Ecuador like Guayaquil and Quito as well as the United States. The US$44 million international airport includes a 5,000 sq. m. terminal building. A 2,000m x 45m runway is capable of handling some of the world's largest aircraft.

Security was the primary concern for the Ecuadorian government. They needed to be able to monitor passengers the entire time they were on the airport premise. Crystal clear images were required to make identification simple. To meet these challenges Santa Rosa airport selected cutting edge MESSOA IP-cameras for their video surveillance system. Traditional analog CCTV had many limits such as expensive installation cost over large areas and requiring the use of many obtrusive cables. IP solutions offer a single, scalable, integrated solution which provides high-quality video surveillance at a fraction of the cost.

A total of 44 network cameras were installed to monitor the full range of the airport. Four different camera models were selected for their strengths. 40 sets (NIC830 + NIC835) were chosen because they used Power Over Ethernet (PoE) thus reducing hardware requirements. Also, they employ MESSOA's high-sensitivity Lumii™ II technology, which delivers sharp and highly detailed images even in low light conditions. These solidly built cameras are suited to round-the-clock monitoring applications and feature a vandal-proof and water-proof housing that enables it to capture crucial images even in extreme conditions.

4 sets (NIC930PRO + NIC950PRO) were chosen for their wide coverage area and ability to get detailed images even while using digital or optical zoom. A hybrid (CCTV/network) output ensures that repairs are quick and easy. A 360° continuous pan operation range with a max pan speed of 400°/sec ensures a quick response time. MESSOA’s Smart Focus technology use a built-in nine-point focus indicator that enables the camera to focus precisely and automatically on objects, relieving users of the need to adjust the focus manually.

MESSOA ensures the safety of the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico (Mexico)

The Supreme Court of Justice in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico is a public institution in charge of leading and administrating justice in the region in accordance with civil and penal rules of law. Quintana Roo is located in the southeastern tip of Mexico. It is known as “The Mexican Caribbean” since it is next to the Caribbean Sea.

Challenge

Due to the specific circumstances, several different factors were considered in the selection of the surveillance system. First, the cameras had to be able to withstand the extreme weather conditions that prevail in the region. The air temperature can reach as high as 80°f (26.5°c) throughout the year with extreme heat during the summer seasons. Rainfall can get as heavy as 59 inches. Also, the region is frequently affected by storms and hurricanes. The high humidity and heavy rainfall offered a unique challenge in surveillance. Condensation, mold and the camera short circuiting were all surveillance concerns. Furthermore, the cameras had to be vandal proof. They would be installed outside of public buildings where they would be exposed to the general public.

Built Tough

MESSOA cameras are perfectly suited to this humid atmosphere since they are housed in a water proof protective casing with temperature control. This casing offers 60°C operational temperature support which is 10°C more than other vendors. IP66 & IP67 Support make the housing virtually water proof. Also, MESSOA offers vandal proof cameras that can withstand up to 1000KG of force. Additionally, the Speed Dome Cameras come with maintenance free slip rings that are required to pass rigorous tab tests of over 4 million rotations (MTBF) making it durable for 24 hour monitoring.

Camera Selection and Installation

Initially, 30 cameras were purchased and installed in one of the court houses. Mexican officials were impressed with the quality of the cameras. “The speed of focus is quicker compared to other cameras,” commented one official. They also liked the high quality video so much that they decided to purchase additional cameras.

Some cameras needed to be installed indoors while others needed to be outdoors. The models used for outside monitoring were the SDF417U day/night color dome camera and SDR431U dome 30M IR color camera. These domes utilize Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling to lower installation costs and reduce video loss over long-distance transmissions. They feature easy installation, compact mechanical designs, vandal-proof 1,000-kg impact resistance, and IP67 rating. A service-monitor output connector can be used to facilitate installation and increase their flexibility. Ceiling or Wall mounting is easy with the true 3-Axis rotation.

Other models include the SCR363 and SDS710M. The SCR363 is a 35M IR camera that is built tough. It has IP66 water proofing and is vandal proof. It is easy to maintain with its cable management system and external view adjustment. The SDS710M integrates high-performance zoom with superfine 0.02° pan control to deliver exceptionally smooth tracking that facilitates capture of moving subjects. The cameras pans up to 430° per second and tilts at up to 200° per second, allowing quick and efficient capture of objects. Also, the camera is ideal for viewing an entire area and when zooming in on a specific person or scene is vital.

Installation flexibility was needed for a wide range of specific viewing requirements. Multiple configuration possibilities are possible thanks to the many accessories that accompany MESSOA cameras; including wall mount brackets and fixed dome cameras.

Result

So satisfied were the Mexican officials, that it was decided to install MESSOA cameras in all the court buildings. A total of 159 MESSOA cameras were installed in 10 different buildings. With this solution, The Supreme Court of Justice can guarantee the safety of staff and citizens.

MESSOA provides superior security monitoring solution for the Wu River in Taiwan (Taiwan)

Throughout the 1990s, pollution in the Wu River grew steadily. It was home to several illegal dump sites for waste and gravel. Several unauthorized buildings contributed to the overall deterioration of the river. By 1997, it was one of the most heavily polluted rivers in Taiwan. All the fish had long died and the water was discolored and smelly. Therefore, the Tatu Rivermouth Wildlife Refuse was established to combat the pollution and restore the Wu River to its former glory.

Surveillance Requirements

Officials looked into a number of different solutions. They came to the conclusion that using security cameras would be the ideal choice. The purpose of the cameras was to track any illegal dumping, unauthorized building and prevent pollution. Having decided that, there was still the issue of deciding which camera system to use.

They needed high-resolution images to track down the perpetrators in both daylight and darkness. Since the river was in a desolate area, the cameras would have to be controlled from far away. Also, a live person would not always be on hand to control the camera, so an Auto Patrol function was needed to constantly monitor different areas. At the same time, they needed to be durable enough to withstand being outside 24 hours a day.

The Solution

A total of 30 speed domes and 93 box cameras were installed on a special custom made tower. Each camera connects to a control center at a remote site.

The NIC836 network camera was chosen because it is a 1.3 megapixel resolution network camera, equipped with a 1/3” progressive-scan CCD utilizing Sony Exview HAD technology. It can capture crystal clear pictures even at varying light levels. The camera switches between day and night modes automatically, enabling it to capture video in as little as 0.06 lux. Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) enables it to transmit power and image data through a single Ethernet cable thus reducing installation and maintenance costs by eliminating additional power supplies and cables. The camera also features an on-screen display menu to facilitate quick camera setup and management. Moreover, the NIC836 can be combined with the MESSOA SLI070, 70M (230 feet) IR housing. In low light conditions, the SLI070 will activate its IR function automatically and the NIC836 will enable the ICR filter function simultaneously, making the camera perfect for wide area and long distance monitoring.

The NDS830Pro Speed Dome was chosen because it has a 360° pan operation, allowing it a wide coverage range. It also has a speed of up to 150°/sec, making it easy to track a target. It can be programmed to scan an area even without an operator. Storage is reduced by using multi streams. The camera works normally under 20%~80% RH. The housing is vandal proof up to 750KG, IP67 water proof and contains a heater and blower. It is built specifically for the outdoors and can resist wind, rain humidity and extreme temperatures.

Worthwhile Investment

The results have been outstanding. These cameras provide clear images even in low light conditions . Excellent design protects the cameras against weather conditions such as wind, rain, humidity and temperature. It’s multi-streaming saves more storage for recording. With these cameras installed, illegal dumping and building have totally stopped and the river is beginning to show signs of life again.

Finding parking in a large metropolitan city can be tough, therefore the need for efficient parking garages becomes paramount. As with all public facilities, vehicle surveillance and personal security are critical issues. Parking garages have traditionally been demanding environments to monitor due to the lighting environment. Parking Management needed a camera that was stable and could handle a broad spectrum of lighting conditions. As a professional manufacturer of superior surveillance cameras, MESSOA was chosen as the preferred one in the recently completed Chengde Underground Parking Garage in Taipei city.

Built in early 2010, Chengde is a busy facility with a high standard for customer service. It takes up two floors, has a total of 15 parking areas, and operates 24 hours a day. In general, capturing clear images can be difficult in parking garages due to the extremely high contrast lighting environments. For this reason, MESSOA offers the SCR515PRO which provide comprehensive traffic surveillance through a combination of plate-capture and color-overview technology. Thirteen SCR515PROs were installed at the entrance and exit of both floors. Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) can automatically adjust an image’s brightness and exposure values. Also, MESSOA CatchAll™ II technology reduces glare by using headlight suppression and backlight compensation. This helps optimize the image to obtain a clear picture of the license. Moreover, the specifically designed die-cast aluminum housing was chosen both for its aesthetic appeal and for its vandal proof properties.

A total of thirteen SDS710PRO cameras were installed for monitoring wide open areas. One camera was placed at the entrance so it could monitor both the streets and garage. A vandal (1000kg) and water (IP67) proof housing made it ideal for outdoor surveillance. Others were installed on each floor of the parking garage. 360° continuous pan operation range with a max speed of 430°/sec. offers quick response time and flexible surveillance coverage. Furthermore, every SDS710PRO has an alarm input/output function that can be integrated with an alarm system. The Chengde parking lot has an alarm button that can be pressed in emergencies. Should this button be pressed, the camera can automatically focus on the alarm area.

Three SDR431U was installed in the central office and server room. A 30 meter IR and ICR day/night feature kept watch on the guard room 24 hours a day. No external lighting was needed. A vandal proof protected it from any intruders.

It is important to ensure user safety while keeping an eye open for suspicious activity such as skipped fees, vandalism and theft. Different types of cameras mounted strategically can interact with one another to create maximum visibility and security. The Parking Management & Development Office in Taipei city has been extremely pleased with the results and would like to continue its partnership with MESSOA.

Established in 1919, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha LTD, also known as “K” Line, is the tenth largest shipping company in the world. Based in Japan, they typically move cargo around the world by ship. One of the places that “K” Line operates out of is the Shinagawa-ku Seaport in Tokyo, Japan. Shinagawa-ku is one of the largest and busiest ports in Japan. Thousands of tons of goods are brought in and out on a daily basis along with hundreds of workers.

The Problem

“K” Line needed to know what was going on in the port at all times. They had to monitor cargo handling operations and allied activities. However, ports are typically challenging environments to monitor. Strong winds, heavy rain, windblown salt, and major fluctuations in temperature could make taking accurate images difficult. “K” Line required a surveillance camera that was tough yet precise.

The Solution

The MESSOA NIC930HPRO IP Speed Dome camera was selected for this task.

The camera supports the H.264 compression standard. H.264 greatly reduces the size of video compared to MJPEG and MPEG4 without compromising image quality. Storage and bandwidth needs are reduced. Plus, H.264 is a wireless friendly format.

Only five cameras were installed on lighting towers yet they covered all 231,000M² of the Port. A rugged outdoor wireless power box and transmitter were used to keep wires and installation costs to a minimum. With wireless networks, cameras can be deployed anywhere without the high costs of installing and maintaining wires.

The NIC930HPRO is equipped with a 1/4” SONY Exview HAD CCD lens. 26x optimal zoom with 12x digital zoom add up to a 312x zoom range ensuring more detail. This lens can capture even the smallest objects and provides excellent picture sensitivity which is vital for any retail environment. It also uses a high-performance zoom with superfine 0.02° pan controls to deliver smooth tracking of moving people and objects. A 360° continuous pan operation range with a max speed of 430°/sec. These features give Security an excellent overview of the entire port while at the same time able to zoom in without losing detail.

MESSOA camera housing is IP66/IP67-rated die-casting aluminum housing also protects the camera from the salt damage and strong rains common in coastal settings. The housing is very tolerant of temperature and humidity changes, functioning well in -40ºC–60ºC temperatures and 20–80% relative humidity, both of which are common in coastal environments. MESSOA meet Thai Police’s challenging surveillance requirements (Thailand)

This October, MESSOA SCR515PRO cameras met the challenging traffic surveillance requirements of Phutorn, Kamphaeng Phet Province, Thailand. These ANPR/LPR cameras have aided local Thai police in resolving a number of serious traffic headaches, including hit and run drivers, speeding and common traffic infractions. Officials have been especially impressed with SCR515PRO’s recognition capabilities at night and in rainy conditions, and have been thrilled with the first-stage test results. They have decided to install more SCR515PRO cameras at major intersections all around the city. “Our previous surveillance cameras were unsuitable for our needs,” said one officer. “The images were blurry and almost useless. Oncoming car headlights would distort and blur out license plate numbers. It was all very frustrating.” Needing an answer, they turned to MESSOA.

Clear images day or night
The solution was MESSOA’s top of the line SCR515PRO ANPR/LPR traffic-surveillance camera. The city initially set up a single test camera for evaluation. The SCR515PRO utilized CatchAll™ II technology to deliver a clearer, more satisfying picture, while its 3D Digital Noise Reduction took away the "pixely" look of images to make them sharp and clean. The camera also made use of its Wide Dynamic Range technology to ensure details were visible even in environments with both bright and dark areas.

The real test came at night. Would the SCR515PRO be able to deliver clear shots even in the dark? When several cars were prepped and sent out, the camera made it possible to easily identify the make of the cars, their license plate numbers and the people inside them. MESSOA’s headlight suppression technology dimmed the cars’ headlights to provide an excellent view of their license plates.

However, officials were still concerned. Their previous cameras used a sensor-based ICR switch, which could inadvertently switch modes when exposed to external factors such as headlights. This occasionally caused cameras to capture b/w images in daylight and color images at night. Their concerns were alleviated by the SCR515PRO’s scheduled ICR day/night switching. The Thai Traffic Bureau set up a schedule to switch between color mode and b/w mode, eliminating the hassle of manually switching their cameras.

Overcomes challenges of rainy season
In Thailand, the rainy season lasts from June through October. Rain and humidity are both serious issues for the duration of the season. Water vapor and dust can get inside cameras, distorting images and even destroying the cameras themselves. Fortunately, the SCR515PRO is IP67 waterproof and is capable of continuous operation even while submerged in water. In addition, the camera’s Lumii II™ technology reduces image noise to deliver crisp captures in the dim light of rainy days.

MESSOA SCR505 Installed at José Joaquín de Olmedo Airport Entry Lanes in Ecuador

The MESSOA SCR505, an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera, has been installed at traffic entry points at the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to manage the airport’s access control. The SCR505 helps security officials with round the clock surveillance keeping track of all airport traffic. Airport officials are now satisfied that both safety and security have been maximized.

Standing at 50,000 sq. meters, the airport supports both national and international flights for over 5 million passengers a year. In 2009 BusinessWeek Magazine named it “Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean” in terms of service quality; this was for the second year running!

In respect to airport access control, airport officials needed to keep track of every vehicle entering and exiting the airport. The recent tightening of security at airports around the world has correlated with increasingly stringent requirements for access control; both in terms of reliability and efficiency. The camera’s rain guard and extendable sunshield minimize the effects of rain and sunlight on image quality.
