The Wired World Of John Chow

When talking about Metabloggers and their online success you can't ignore big boys, those who are on top of the iceberg. They make far more money online than others and sometimes they influence in which way the mainstream of metablogging will go by selecting some affiliate programs and refuse others or by simply changing blog design. Success has terrible habit of making copycat hordes.

On John Chow's blog, subtitled "The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul" with full right, by searching his archives you can find earlier post from December 26th 2005 where he talks about shop till you drop. But John's presence on web goes much back before year 2000. How did first page of JohnChow dot com blog looked like you can see here: The Wired World Of John Chow. I will quote just one paragraph.

A little something about myself. I live in Vancouver, Canada pretty much all my life. Before starting the Wired World, I was a partner in a local Richmond printing company. After over a decade of running a print shop, I decided it was time for a change. The Wired World is my attempt at making my stake on the internet. So far so good. :)

And seven years later John can be proud on himself. He is one of the brave pioneers of metablogging. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how other big boys started?

Blog sold for 15k

First in the list of Metabloggers, Kumiko sold her blog for $15.000! Kumiko has estimated that blog earns around $1.300 / month, blog has over 900 RSS subscribers, Alexa ranking 20k, page rank 5 and 31.000 unique visitors per month. Details here.

What is most amazing is that blog is established on 31 dec 2006, less than a year! Is this too early for selling? I think it is, but Kumiko has monetized her blog for unbelievable price. Will new owner iEntry, Inc. have success in continuing with making money online, time will show, but RSS subscribers counter is now down and comments are low. I believe this have to do with fact that many readers followed Cashquests because of Kumiko and her personality (fake or real).

Question if Kumiko is real asked etienneteo also. I'll quote him in something I agree with him: "If Kumiko is fake then this was perhaps the most successful plot ever planned!"

One Mans Success

What is the ultimate goal of metabblogers? Is it to continually teach others how to make money online? Or maybe goal is to sell your blog for good price and repeat this action over and over again. Opinions on this subject are different, but actions bloggers take are also different.

OneMansGoal.com recently became one mans success. This Metablogger, Bryan sold his blog for amazing $8,5k! Blog was only few months old.

Is this good decision? It depends on what is your true talent. If you can easily generate new visitors and traffic, if you can quickly start with making money with your blog, than it's better for you to sell your blog as soon as you are OK with the price. But if you need more time to gather high number of readers and subscribers maybe it's better not to sell.

It's not possible for everyone to sell his/hers blog. What about JohnChow.com? He can't sell his blog, right? Who will buy blog with obligation to continue someone else's personal ramblings? John Chow could sell his blog only to another John Chow. Off course, ghost writer can always take over, but that is very hard to keep as a secret when you are against huge number of fanatic readers.

ShoeMoney writes about why WidgetBucks, new popular widget ads network is not so good and warns about their TOS. It is interesting to see how people who commented trust this guy and they are ready not to try WidgetBucks by themselves based on his opinion.

JohnChow is happy because he reached 10.000 RSS subscribes, but will he win his battle?

ContestBlogger has finished his contest where he tried to encourage his readers to sign up to BlogRush using his affiliate link. He managed to persuade 33 referrals. Interesting strategy from ContestBlogger.

List of MetaBloggers

There is difference between good and not so good metabloggers. Those who are good can teach you a lot about blogging and blogging for money and they are trying to do so. For them, earnings are just a secondary thing. They get money BECAUSE they are good. Others just want visitors and money. You can tell the difference by looking at theirs blog content.

I have managed to collect huge list of metabloggers. This list is updated every day. However, not everyone of them deserve to be high on that list. List presented on the sidebar is just a small portion of whole thing, but blogs are not ordered by quality or number of visitors or amount of earnings or anything, yet, but maybe this list will become ordered in some way in the future.
