may have seen I have been very quiet so far this year, this time of year is very busy for my family
with three birthdays, Christmas and new year all in the space of three months.

Anyway, back to the music.

On Feburary 1, I'm off to see Cavalera Conspiracy and Lynchmada,

I can't say I'm the biggest Cavalera Conspiracy fan but it is great to see the Cavalera brothers back together again, I seen Sepultura on their Roorback tour in Brisbane in 2003 and while I respect Derrick as a singer, the old tunes (the ones you go to see them for) just didn't sound right but the noise they were making was insane!! I, like most other metal fans of my generation, was a huge Sepultura fan (bit of a train wreck now), so I'm looking forward to seeing Max live.

Then on rolls March and Slipknot and Trivium,

Pity Slipknot didn't give the opening to an Australian band or even just 20 minutes before Trivium but this will still be a killer show, I have got some good friends coming to party....really looking forward to this one!!

As far as music I'm listening to. I've been cranking Double Dragon's "Sons Of Asena", Suicide Silence's "No Time To Bleed" and Five Finger Death Punch's "American Capitalist".

I have also done an interview with Liggy from Double Dragon which I will post later in the week.

But over the last couple of months I have come across some really great new Australian bands like DepriVation, Datura Curse and Double Dragon.

And, the best thing? they are all new bands (debuts and EP's in hand)

Alot of these bands I have played before on here but......check this out!!

Double Dragon "The Lone Wolf" (Live)

Very exciting time ahead, oh and just for reference,

Godsic "Scars Inside"

AnotherHell "Capitol Hill"

DepriVation "Strain"

And the mighty Datura Curse "Surrounding"

There is alot of quality music out there, you just need to take the time to find it and then to support the bands.

Motionless In White "Creatures"

Suicide Silence "Unanswered"

And, iwrestledabearonce "Karate Nipples"

Then I told him the new Lamb Of God album had been leaked (I will still buy to support the band), I played him my favourite song I have heard so far,

Lamb Of God "King Me"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOANxnFjBKs

(that link may or may not work, depending on your country) If it dosen't, the song starts quite slow with Randy talking the lyrics with acoustics, string instruments and female "opretic" style singing (something very different for LOG) before busting into a HUUUGE heavy riff. The whole song has a very epic feel to it which I quite like.

Anyway, back on topic.

After playing a few IWABO songs, then going to LOG (albeit a slow starting song), my friend said he had a feeling like he was waiting for something to happen.

I have had this feeling alot lately, after listening to (and I challenge most people to do this) IWABO, Motionless In White or Suicide Silence for a week straight, trying listening to Cavalera Conspiracy or Machine Head's "Unto The Locust" is hard. I hate to say it but I find it a bit boring.

I think the current crop of new metal bands are creating something very special, with elements of traditional, nu-metal (I fucking hated nu-metal, Deftones anyone?) and all the "cores", mixed to create their own sound.

Bands to watch I believe are Sandraudiga , Datura Curse , Chinga and Godsic to name a few.

What do you think?

Over the past couple of weeks I have been blasting Five Finger Death Punch's "American Capitalist", Suicide Silence's "No Time To Bleed" and Septic Flesh's "The Great Mass". Nice different mix of metal bands.

Five Finger Death Punch "Under and Over It"

Suicide Silence "...And Then She Bled"

In the next couple of weeks I'm hoping to get a copy of Foundry Road's album "The Flood Of Isolation" and Sandraudiga's "The Hollow Nation".

Stay tuned!!
If you are on Twitter or FaceBook, they need some support, Iam hoping to get them to 2000 followers on Twitter by Xmas @daturacurse
Tickets have been bought for the Slipknot show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, we have a bit of a crew heading to the show so should be an awesome one.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the new bass player goes and how the crowd react to him. I seriously thought they would have split after Paul died, I'm also very interested to hear the direction of future slipknot music, hopefully they will release something with a little more balls!!!

I heard Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" today and it is mind blowing, this music was made somewhere between 1703 and 1707..............just mind blowing. I just kept waiting for "Shaggrath" to start screaming!!

Anyway (back on topic), a couple weeks ago I got Panic, Sky Fell's EP and whilst not quite in the realm of Bach and Mozart, they do bring an interesting collision of musical styles, that being dance and metal.

While I'm sure they are not the first, it's definatley the best I have heard so far!! think Fear Factory's abomination "Remanufacture".

I think Panic, Sky Fell are well worth a listen, if you don't like it, just delete it but it does have an interesting mix and we all know someone who likes a little dance with their metal.

you can download the EP for free here http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediafire.com%2F%3Ff9jixz9cnoudsxa&h=_AQFToH3lAQFthsUyaAxwUUG6xLxes8ENxFAydtar5tD6tg .

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

This weekends beer of choice is a favorite of mine, "Pure Blonde", this beer can be a little dangerous because it is a low carb beer and just tastes so damn good, you can just smash these all night!!

At 4.6% alcohol, it's not the strongest beer but it has a real freshing taste and you don't get bloated from it so who really cares about the alcohol percentage.

You know what the perfect band to go with this beer? Something that is heavy yet is easy to listen to and dosen't have lyrical content you feel the need to defend!

Another Hell "Redemption"

I have always found people in the pit to be as cool as shit! if someone goes down? people pick em up and keep going, not breaking stride!

One cool memory was from the Lamb Of God show in Sydney in 08 (I think maybe 07), where I met this dude that had taken his nephew to his first ever metal show and I was like "dude, you gotta come in the pit!", this kid was 15 or something and a bit scared but to his credit he went into the pit and ran around for a bit, then I got him up crowd surfing. His uncle was so happy and the kid had a blast.

For me that is what a metal show is all about, catching up with friends, drinking beer and having a good time!!

Now, the reason for this post is because a good friend of mine is coming down the Melbourne for the Slipknot show and I said "hell yeah, lets meet up for that" and he said "floor or seats?"

I have only ever been to one show where there we sat on seats (with the same dude, in 92(??) for Body Count) and we were 13 or something.

How do you like to watch metal shows? in the middle or up the back watching? What is your best metal show experience?

iwrestledabearonce play with the vocals very well, using the clean fenimine sound with distorted growls like nothing I have heard before. The drumming is fantastic, some of the fastest blasts around but with equally fast rolls, with out being intrusive. The guitars are very.......off tempo and complicated, probably best for a guitarist to dicipfer.

Australia's own Lynchmada have shared the stage with metal giants such as Lamb Of God, Suicide Silence and Testament, and now can add Cavalera Conspiracy to the list.

Lynchmada released their second full length "To The Earth" earlier this year and from what I have heard of it, it sounds fucking killer (adds another album to shopping list), check out Lynchmada live in a town near you,

So, between now and February, I will get a hold of their album and do a review and after the show I will also tell everyone how the night was, I'm sure it will be an alcohol fueled ragging good time \m/

I was requested to play this song in honor of Jasmine Barker,

I'm not to sure on the exact circumstances, but Jasmine died in a car accident and it got me to thinking about the amount of peoples lives that have been affected by road fatalities.

Now I'm no angel when it comes to road rules (or life for that matter) but that is all in the past and I was lucky so many people are not so lucky. All I can say is "just take it easy out there and don't do anything stupid".

And on a personal note, this song goes out to all the fallen brothers and sister, I love you all and you are greatly missed,

I once heard someone say "You have to be the change you want to see in the world", be nice and respect each other for your differences and similarities a like, a smile and hello, goes along way sometimes.

R.I.P. Jasmine Barker

The group are called "The Bailey Hounds" and they do an acoustic cover of Pantera's "The Great Southern Trendkill", check it out

I'm not sure what the other guys from Pantera think of this but I think Dime would have loved it, I could just see him saying "wwwoooo, that was bad ass dude" and pouring a shot because he just seemed like that kind of person. The Bailey Hounds seem to have a genuine respect for Pantera and the song also with the cover being so "acoustic" you can really hear the lyric (read poetic) brilliance of Phil.

I like it, it shows real talent to take a song that is that heavy and fast, and cover it that acoustically without destroying it and looking stupid.

Just for comparisons sake

Datura Curse, I honestly can't get enough of these guys at the moment. The only thing I don't like abouth their E.P. "Reasons" is that it is an E.P. Not enough guys, GIVE US MORE!!!.

Datura Curse "Surrounding"

iwrestledabearonce "Karate Nipples"

I have been listening to Kanerko's "Delusions Of Grandeur" for about a week and I find their "heavy rock'n roll" quite easy to throw on and groove away to at anytime of the day.

I like this style of music (from time to time) due to the fact you can hear the drummer skitzing out with lightning rolls, groovy easy to follow riffs and great solos.

Kanerko remind me (somewhat) of StoneSour with out the harsh vocals, speaking of vocals, if you like heavy, constant growls then Kanerko are not for you! but if you like clean, understandable, meaning full vocals then Kanerko should be on your "to do" list.

Kanerko have a great sound, something that is very catchy that I'm sure ALOT of people will like but with hints of metal in there just to keep the pop rock crowd guessing, I only hope thy don't go all pop and lose their edge because they have some true great elements that would be a shame to lose.

As with E.P.'s it's hard to pick top tracks, all I can say is that they are equally great in different ways with different element..............except for "Sueno", a Spanish version of "Sleep" and while "Sleep" is a good song, having the Spanish version on there as well is a little to "Ricky Martin" for my liking (not the language, the covering your own song in a different language).

Kanerko can be found at http://www.kanerko.com/ or check them out on Twitter @Kanerko and FaceBook KanerkoFB .

I shaved my head and made out I was alot tougher than I was (the expression "don't give a fuck" applied heavily), during my teen year when life was "tough" (I had loving parents and a good home) but teen years are teen years! My parents divorced when I was 13 and the older I get, the more profound impact that made on my life becomes clearer, music was the one thing that never betrayed me!! It was always there and didn't judge!! Good friends came and went (bar a few "Sut" and "Jacko") but music remained true, from my point of view.

One of the greatest regrets I have was not seeing Pantera live when I had the chance and with the death of Dime, that will never happen now, but with Down, through the years and with no doubt the support of his fellow band members Phil Anselmo seems to be on the up and up, if you have not seen the clip check this out!

Phil Anselmo's whole image was had huge impact on me! I hated grunge and any hippy shit!!! I was all about hard, real shit, so when Pantera released "the great southern trendkill" I lost my fucking mind and to this day that is the Pantera album that I like the most, even thought the issues the band were going throught at the time I didn't about and didn't really care.

If there was one metal personality that I was really like to meet or interview it would be Phil Anselmo, just to make a thirty(somethings) dream come true, some people dream of meeting James Hetfield or Rob Halford but not me.

No one could ever take Dime's place (Zakk could play the music but...he's not Dime) and with Rex's health not real good and Vinnie doing "Hell Yeah" (or Hell No as I like to call them) I just thank my lucky stars that Pantera didn't get old and do a "LULU" album (WFT!!)

Raise a glass fuckers!!

They have recorded only one song! One 45 minute, blistering assault!!

Did they pull this off? Hell yeah!

"Alpha-Beta" is jam packed full of tempo changes with a mixture of tradtional metal riff work with blistering speed metal and drums that could cause an epileptic fit!! The vocals? Pure brutal goodness, particularly in the final few minutes (more on that later).

At times it is hard to find 45 minutes to sit and listen to one song but "Alpha-Beta" is a great driving album, I like to have something heavy as fuck playing while trying to deal with traffic at the end of the day and this does the trick perfectly!

As far as picking "top tracks" go, this one is a bit hard, so I chose a "top section", particulary for the vocals (as mentioned above) these are some of the most brutally good vocals I have heard in a while.

Krokmiten "4/4"

Krokmiten have made "Alpha-Beta" (audio and video) available downloadable for free from their site http://www.krokmiten.com/ or check them out on FaceBook and Twitter.

If you like the album, maybe even support the band and buy a copy!!

I have endeavored to make my first show (and all after) as ball tearing as possible!!! with metal greats as well as relatively new bands (bands featured here at metal dad australia).

One particular segment will feature Sepultura, Slayer, Damageplan, Whitechapel, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Agony Scene, Diecast and Fear Factory............hhmmmm interesting, hey??

Stay tuned, as soon as I get my FUCKING mic working we should be good to go.
