Darkthrone Albums — Pick the three best.

Poll created by adg211288 — I know there's some on this site who have strong opinions about Darkthrone and maybe black metal in general so I guess I already know what way some will be voting here...not naming names of course Jonas and Patrick.

I decided to make this poll because I recently started on something I've been telling myself to do for some time, which is properly explore their discography, which is actually quite extensive and include more than one change in sound. I have owned A Blaze in the Northern Sky for many years but never felt inclined to buy anything else from them. I can't say whether than will ever change or not but I will say I've already found some more appreciation for both Soulside Journey and the early black metal albums.

Please vote for the three best according to you.

Arjen Lucassen 2024 Poll — Pick the three best.

Poll created by adg211288 — I have closed the 2020 Arjen Lucassen poll sue to being outdated. This one is future-proofed up to his upcoming 2024 releases. Naturally you can't really vote for those yet due to not being out but I don't want to have to re-do this poll again in a few months. I'm counting the upcoming Simone Simons solo album as an Arjen since he co-wrote it and based on the first song it musically sounds very much like an Arjen album.

Most Underappreciated Iced Earth Album? — Which is underappreciated?

Poll created by adg211288 —
Part of a series of polls I am running: based on actual data, for acts with at least a dozen studio albums. Which of the five lowest rated (data from RYM, since they have a greater rating base) do you find underappreciated, if any?

Albums are listed from the lowest rated up (RYM rating in brackets).

For Iced Earth I elected to excluded 'A Narrative Soundscape' from the Poll as I don't think that should really count as a main studio album, although the cover album Tribute to the Gods was fair game.

I'm giving my own vote to The Glorious Burden. While by RYM standards the rating of 3.1/5 isn't unrespectable, I consider this one to be among the band's best. They got a lot of negativity for the vocalist change but I think Tim Owens fit better in Iced Earth than he ever did in Judas Priest. Framing Armageddon is pretty good too - much better than the second part of that album duo which I think is rightly ranked last.

Honourable mention to Point of Entry which I think also cops some unfair flak and contains one of my favourite JP songs - Desert Plains.

Poll created by adg211288 — The last poll on MMA for Enslaved is two albums out of date now, so here's a 2020 update for them. I'm especially interested in what people say as I have a feeling Enslaved could become my next major discovery. Certainly I've tended to rate the albums I've heard of theirs pretty high, especially the later ones.

I won't be voting on here myself (yet) because the only two albums that I have any recollection of are the two I streamed today, RIITIIR and Isa.
Avantasia's Metal Opera's - normal or gold edition — Which would you keep?

Poll created by adg211288 — A poll here with a purpose, because I'm really torn on something: which versions to keep of Avantasia's Metal Opera albums, the originals or the Gold Edition Boxset.

Some context, I bought the Gold Edition many years ago as that was the best value version, though I was always a bit put out that it completely lacks the original artworks. I came into the originals as well when I bought someone's whole collection off of ebay a few years ago.

Until now I have just kept both versions. That becomes less of an option every time I buy a new album, with ever decreasing space for storage, which has already resulted in my collection being split into a main and secondary collection shoved in the spare room recently. And frankly selling one version could finance something I don't own two of.

There's not much resale vale difference on ebay between the two originals sold together or the one Gold Edition, so that doesn't really swing it over which ones to keep.

So if you were me, which would you keep?

The originals have all the original artwork, which I like. The Gold Edition is done up like a hardback book. There are bonus tracks on the discs of the Gold, but they aren't great added value to the album's standard versions. The whole idea of a Gold Edition is that it is a bit more special, but I never felt this set was as special as it should have been. I did pay much more money for the Gold originally, more than I could probably get back out of it, but the originals work out as having paid less than 20p each for given the price paid for the job lot, most of which I've long made back by selling the doubles.

I'm really torn on this and would like people's opinions. I'm selling one or the other, so don't say 'both'. You won't be being helpful.

Poll created by TheHeavyMetalCat —
A new series of polls to try and take our minds off the pandemic. This one follows up on the last series by looking at genres without mixing all their sub-genres up. Black Metal will be the first focus of this series, as it has a lot of genre varients.

This first poll will only take into account the base genre, Black Metal, again using RYM as a data source. There may still be releases in these polls of sub-genres if the case if that are tagged as both. Other hybrids with non-black genres can also be featured.
