Well had a few hits on my new photo blog from search engines I also had my first hit from yahoo search engine so I know my blog is being indexed by them. But still its all fairly confusing why for example dose a post I do show up in a search and others that I do dont show up. I will just have to keep working at it.

Activating my RSS Ad sense feed

Sorted out my RSS feeds to-night. I had advertisements placed in the feeds a while back but i couldn't figure out how to get the updated feed chicklet onto my blog page, I finally figured it out ...... I went into my ad sense account and clicked on the rss profile and and then on create chicklet option. This new chicklet is now on my blog page. If you click on it you will now see my posts and advertisements along with them.

Google Webmaster Tools, I have found these to be very useful, giving me a better understanding on how my blog pages get seen by others through the use of search engines.

I am shown what phrases or words people type in that bring up my blog pages in the search engine, which is giving me a better understanding of how important titles on posts are.

Also through the use of Google Webmaster tools I discovered that the Title labels on my photo page blog were not effective. And I would get better results if I changed them.

Also I discovered even the names of the picture files help greatly in getting good results in the search engines. For instance I take a lot of pictures but I don't name them, E.G picture is called 2456.jpg (picture of a swan) and i upload this to my blog and then I might give the blog post the title "Taken on holiday" and when someone types in a search engine "swan" my page wont show up as it doesn't have any reference to the word swan.

So from now on the picture file name will be changed before it is uploaded from 2456.jpg to something more relevant like "swan in flight.jpg" and the title of my blog posts will reflect the picture too E.G Swan in flight taken on holiday.

P.S I started a new photo blog on another blog page and I will label these properly and see if I get better results, and maybe in a couple of months I will be able to tell if it makes a big difference.

Blog Template

Blog Template edited.

After going and getting new templates for another blog I have I decided to see if I could edit the html code on templates I already use ....... so i taught myself a bit of html code and css code over the last couple of days. I then put what I learned to use on the page that I have my privacy policy on, and changed it from a two column template to a four column template ............ check it out at http://privacypolicy-myblogs.blogspot.com

Next I hope to change all the colour schemes and borders and totally change how it looks. And maybe then start creating new template layouts.

Blog Navigation bar

Nice one just sorted out the problem with the navigation bar not showing on the new template. If you are also having this problem with templates from websites that make them maybe this might work for you too.

go into layout, edit html and scroll down until you come to navigation bar ..... then delete the lines

visibility: hidden;

display: none;

then hit save and hopefully you are sorted.

Being searching the web for blog templates hoping to find a better one than the one i use on this blog, found a few sites that do lovely templates but getting them to work has been tough but I did find one I really like and I'm testing it out on a new blog page its going well and makes the blog look more professional. But there is a couple of problems to sort out ....... like the navigation bar above the blog for signing in and out and getting access to the dashboard is gone when I use it. Luckily I'm testing in on a second page of a blog so I can still access the blog page through the dashboard of the main blog page.

Added video players

Well finally added a couple of video units to my blog pages, i thought these might make the pages more interesting.
Especially the one on the poker page, now you can watch some poker when you visit ...... I'm not sure what the one on this page is going to show.

Blog and Advertisment

One of the reasons i started blogging was just to figure out how to do it ....... at the same time i was trying to see if i could put a websit to-gether from a free program i got in a computer magizine. I just find all this kinda stuff interesting ..... after getting the blog sorted i discovered google analytics and i thought this is great it lets me know how many people have visited the blog and what part of the world they are from, and i still enjoy logging into it and checking the stats.
After that i got interested in the placing of google adds on my blog and seeing how much i could make from doing that........... but its more out of intrest than the opportunity to make money, not that im making money from it as i dont get a lot of visitors to my blog. But the reason im writing about it to-day is i went from making $1 dollar for the last 5 months to making $1 in one day to-day so i thought this was cool.............. so it has renewed my intrest in it again. and now I have to see if I can improve on that.
So if any of you out there also like this sort of stuff or have a profitable blog leave me a few tips

A mixture of everything

Decided to change what I talk about on this page, from now on its going to be about everything and anything.
I have just got back into posting on this blog so I have decided on a few changes, and one of the reasons i got back to posting is im doing a coures (office skills typing and databases and spreadsheets) so i decided this will be a good way to get my typing speed up. When I started the course 3 months ago I managed to type properly at 2 words a minute ......... now im up to 25 words a minute, so hopefully I will get faster over the next couple of months from posting on this blog
Anyway from now on whatever comes to mind will get posted here.

Wow I had my most visitors in my two weeks blogging to day. And its all down to visiting other similar blogs eg photo blogs ....... I had actually double my previous busiest day so far ... with a couple of hours still to go ... So not only am I getting to see some fantastic photos I'm getting visitors to ..... and hopefully a few new links. So if you're new to blogging like me go visit others ... especially if you blog about similar subjects it can only benefit you're blog.

Well so far visiting similar sites has been the most productive thing I have done for my blog ..... i have been visiting other photo blogs ... and leaving comments and not only has this been very enjoyable ... because i have seen some fantastic photos .... but also as i have picked up a couple of links to my blog and have received a lot of visits too .... so this is going to be a regular and enjoyable part of my blogging time .

Spent another couple of hours to day searching the net on linking .......... still haven't come across any thing really useful .......... but everyone agrees you need to link ..... and with similar blogs ..... so its back to the leg work then... and trying to find similar blogs and requesting a link ....... unless of course you're reading this and you're blog is about poker , photography or blogging and you would like to link ..... well let me know by leaving a message in the comment field. I linked up with two other bloggers to-day and from using google analytics I can tell they had visits to there blogs from my blog through those links ....... so if you're a blogger and want more visitors .... lets link.

Linking .......... we all need to do it to grow ....... but how to do it has me confused ..... People of similar blogs to you should be who you are linking to ......... so do i just ask them to link to me ...... or do I WAIT till they find me and ask can they link to me .............I don't think that will work ....... what about linking to people in you're locality eg being from Kildare , Ireland .... linking to others from these locations even if our blogs are not similar but we have a community in common ...... I have been looking into this topic and will continue to do more research into it but if you have any suggestions please leave a comment.

Attracting more visitors to youre blog

Well as I'm new to blogging this is my biggest obsession ... how to attract more visitors ....... and this is what I found out so far.
1 Join forums and participate ......... this works .. as i am using google analytics i can see for definite the people I'm meeting in the forums are visiting my blog.
2 I have joined Blog rush and this group will promote you're blog in a widget to others that use there service ....... so not only is your blog being promoted , it is also a way to find blogs that you might be interested in as other peoples blogs appear in you're Blog rush widget. To find out more click the Blog rush Widget on my page
3 I have joined google help forums ...... again participation in forums attracts others to you're blog
4 I have also just realised google allow you to create you're own help forums .... so if you want to get together with like minded bloggers and discuss issues this is where to do it .... this i think could attract a lot of visits to you're blog if you came up with something of interests .......ill leave a link for that on my page
5 Looking up help on the web as a lot is written on this subject , again I will add links to pages I think you might find useful ......... in my helpful link section ...

Wow so you built a blog good layout lots of content so what do you do now ............. sit back and let everybody read it ...... if only ............ that's kinda what my impression was ........... the reality is for people to visit you re blog you are going to have to put in a bit of work ........... not only is you're content going to have to be relevant to you're visitors for them to keep coming back .......... you have to work at letting them know you are actually here ..... so how do you do that ....... well simple put work .......... but its not all bad ......there is web sites ... explaining what you have to do . .. if you look for them plus whatever i come across I'm going to write about and leave links to.

More google analytics

Google analytics .......... I'm having fun with this ....I just think its great to be able to tell how many visits you had to you re blog ....... where there from ... how long they spent on you re blog ....what pages they visited and even what they clicked on ........................... I don't know how many bloogers use this feature ......... ah ha I think a poll will be useful here. ............................. As for me I was delighted this morning when I discovered I had visits from Australia , Portugal and Belgium. ...................Now I'm going to want to see new country's every time I check the stats. What i would like to know is do any of the other blog sites have this feature or is it only on google , so if you know leave a comment.

Receiving feeds

And again I found adding the feed from this site to M.S.N live fairly easy .............. I have just added the feed from this page so now posts from both pages are covered .............. only one more niggle to sort out is how long it takes to update ... from when I add a post to when it shows up.

Blogging problems

Hi my first post on this page , and my topic will be Blogging problems ..................... Why is rss feed so awkward ....................... if someone wants a link to my posts by getting my feeds via a blog feeder it is tricky to set up or even off putting ............. but on the other hand Windows M.S.N live have made it simple to receive feeds from my blog pages on this site ..................... and how do I know this ...well I set up a page on M.S.N live and had the feeds from my poker page sent over to be shown on my M.S.N page ... and it was easy to do. But i created a blog on a friends computer with google and the same process was tricky , I managed to do it but I can see a lot of people being put off doing it because it wasn't straight forward enough ............... unfortunately I'm still trying to figure how to do it on Yahoo.
