Denny came to MH Equipment in 2003 and has over 30 years of experience in the material handling industry!

Before joining the MH Team, Denny actually worked for the Yale dealer in Southeast Michigan before “converting” to the Hyster dealer in the same region. In 2003, Denny dropped a line to MH Equipment’s CEO, John Wieland, and within a couple of hours had been recommended to the President, of what was at the time, the Ohio North Division. That’s where all the fun began!

Denny says his most rewarding experience at MH has been mending fences and building relationships with former customers of the previous Hyster dealer in the area. With these efforts our business with these customers has continued to grow. (way to go Denny!)

Denny has been married to his wife Patti for over 34 years and together they have 2 children. Marc who is 20, and Maureen who is 18. As a family they enjoy going out for casual dinners together and keeping up on the latest hot topics!

When Denny isn’t busy building relationships at work he’s building relationships on the green! He love golf but says he seems to never have enough time to play. He also enjoys reading anything about golf and golf course architecture. Oh! and eating Ice cream! (now that’s a past time I could definitely get on-board with!)

Living in Michigan for over 20 years compelled Denny to become a BIG fan of the University of Michigan. His son is a Michigan State fan so you can imagine there’s a lot of razzing in the Dmytryk house during football season! After moving to Columbus, home of The Ohio State University, he found himself becoming a Buckeye fan as well. He says it’s a real challenge to be a fan of both great teams on that one Saturday a year when one of the greatest rivalries in football is played! (I bet!)

We asked Denny what one person in history he would most like to have dinner with and why. He said he wasn’t quite sure why, but as a child he was always very moved and taken by President John F. Kennedy. He always listened to him when he was on TV and kept up with anything about him in the news.

Something that you may not know about Denny is that he was actually in a band when he was a teenager! He says The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Paul Revere & the Raiders were on their favorite play list. (Hello Rockstar!)

Denny says every time he reads the Spotlights about other fellow MH associates they usually say “the people” are their favorite thing about working for MH Equipment. He cannot agree more! “There are so many great people in our company who are willing to assist and help anybody when they can. I really made a very smart phone call back in 2003.”

Thank you, Denny, for being such a shining example of the MH Equipment spirit and mission. We look forward to expanding and sharing in your successes for many years to come!

In most workplaces a variety of slip, trip, and fall hazards can develop during the course of a workday or workweek. Loose flooring or carpeting, wet spots, uneven walking surfaces, clutter and electrical cords are just a few. The most important thing to remember is to be observant of potential hazards. While preventing these hazards seems obvious, the unfortunate truth is those measures are often ignored.

Maintaining a safe environment is everyone’s responsibility. Here are a few housekeeping tips to help you prevent slips, trips, and falls in your workplace:

Keep work areas clean and orderly.

Maintain aisles and other walkways. Keep them clear of trip hazards, like cartons, stored materials, tools, etc.

Pick up fallen items from the floor.

Keep walking surfaces dry.

Post warning signs for wet floor areas.

Use non-slip footgear to decrease slip and fall hazards in areas that are frequently wet.

Report or clean up spills immediately.

Clean only one side of a passageway at a time.

Safely store scrap, debris, and waste, and promptly remove them from the work site.

Tape or anchor temporary electrical cords that cross aisles and post a warning sign.

Replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors.

Check the batteries in your thermostat. This is the last thing you want to fail you on a cold night…..trust me I know!

Check the batteries in your flashlights, and make sure they are stored in a convenient place. You want to be able to find them if the lights go out.

Change the filters in your furnace, this helps in efficiency as well as filtering out dust.

Have a professional come in and inspect your heating and cooling system. Preventative maintenance can go a long way.

Change to energy efficient bulbs. If you haven’t done this already, it’s time. They cost a little more money, but they last much longer and use less energy!

Check your fire extinguisher – make sure it’s ready should you need to use it

Clean your fireplace and inspect your chimney if you have one. Make sure it is ready and safe for the season.

Make sure you have shovels and salt on hand for icy driveways and sidewalks.

Make sure all the lights on your vehicle are in good working order and you have an anti-freeze formula windshield wiper fluid – when it’s dark when you come to work in the morning and leave work at night this will make for a much safer trip!

Enjoy the extra hour of sleep!

Eric is a Construction Equipment Specialist at our Charleston, WV branch.

Eric is a newcomer to the company but since he started in July of this year he has sold 6 machines! His proudest moment so far was selling two machines to the City of Hurricane, WV. (We hope it’s your first of many proud moments to come Eric!). Before coming to MH Equipment Eric was the Assistant Vice President at Huntington Insurance and an Account Executive for Federated Insurance.

Eric and his beautiful wife Amber have been married for 9 years and have 3 amazing children, Carson, Isaac, and Gracee who are all under the age of 7! As a family they enjoy attending church activities as well as local sporting events. Eric says his favorite team is the West Virgina University Mountaineers.

When Eric isn’t working hard selling machinery or with his family he loves to go bow hunting and has been an active archer for over 15 years. He also enjoys landscaping and beautifying his yard with plants.

If Eric could have dinner with anyone is history he says he would like to share a meal (preferably sushi) with Theodore Roosevelt. President Roosevelt was credited with establishing the National Parks System and since he also was an avid hunter they would have tons to talk about!

Eric says he really enjoys the people at MH Equipment and the Values of the company and it’s employees.

Thank you, Eric for sharing your story and we look forward to sharing continued success with you!

No… you never hear that.

You might hear “I just love the holidays!” or if you have kids they will be trilled out of their minds with the prospect of a snow day. In general though, I really don’t think ANYBODY looks forward to winter.

It’s tough on all of us. And it’s tough on our industrial equipment too!

There are many reasons that you industrial equipment could malfunction during inclement weather. Water in the fuel tank, frozen fuel lines, old filters, or a weak battery are just a few.

When winterizing your heavy equipment this fall:

Keep the fuel tank full to reduce condensation in the tank

Use windshield washer fluid that is rated for below freezing temperatures

Use a winter fuel blend

Check the strength of the battery

Make sure the oil is being changed regularly

Keep RPM’s low until the equipment warms up.

Use antifreeze that meets manufactures specifications.

Always follow the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.

Failing to properly prepare your equipment for winter can have disastrous effects and cause unnecessary downtime and expense.

In addition to winterizing your equipment you’ll want to also take into consideration winter safety for your operators. Make sure that your operators are properly trained to operate the equipment in wet and icy conditions. Make sure that all daily inspections are being completed and make daily checks of vital components such as batteries, electrical systems and hydraulic systems.
