Last Light Of The Day – Cheetah

Art with heart:: I painted on this one for many nights, and enjoy every minute of it, many layers and washes of paint, watching the magnificent Cheetah come to life. Even the spots, each of them adjusted several times for light and color, some have more details, others go around the bend, some of the Trees echo the dark line shape on his face. I also painted many of the Weeds as one would a still life, I taped them to canvas, moved them around, decided where to place them, then put them in a small vise, to hold them to easel, then painted them on canvas, solid white first, then adjusted colors and values…

Fuller’s Teasel – Snowy Owl

Art with heart: My favorite “Weed”, Fuller’s Teasel, I made the shape of the Owl’s eye in one of the loops of the guard spurs that reached up above the horizon. And painted on the Snowy Owl for many nights, 15 or 20 layers of paint, some thin washes and other areas very thick paint. For a very soft clean look, I used an Iwata airbrush to paint the background.

Emperor Of The Vines

Art with heart: This is his habitat, and he favors this place on the old Vine. I know I will not figure it out, but with the setting, the lighting, and the “look” he had, made me wonder what he was thinking.

Since a few Cardinals are at the feeders as late as Nautical Twilight, I fill the feeders many times a day, and always make sure to fill them (again) at the last light of the day.
