The Grants Pass Arts Advisory Board evaluates legislation, structures, financing devices and public policy pertaining to Arts in Grants Pass. The Advisory Boad will advise the City Council of the development of partnerships and coordination of themes and approaches to the Arts, along with recommendations to the City Council for methods to induce investments in Public Arts.

Family pleas for help locating missing 17 year old daughter

Just a few days ago, 17 year old Stephanie Burke was on vacation with her family in Oregon. Today she is missing, believed to have run away with a boyfriend even her friends did not know.

Robin Burke returned to her home in Prior Lake, Minnesota yesterday happy. Her family had just returned from a vacation in Oregon a trip all had been looking forward to. Her happiness was interrupted by the discovery that her 17 year old daughter, Stephanie Burke, was missing. After trying to contact her via her cell phone numerous times, Robin reasonably began to panic. A check of Stephanie's room found it locked. Eric Burke, Stephanie's father, broke in. The panic Robin began to feel became real: Stephanie's things were gone.

Accessing her cell phone records, a phone call led to answers: a 21 -year- old man named David Kottmann, also from Minnesota. His parents revealed they had recently kicked him out. He was also missing. When Eric told them he was calling the cops, they hung up on him. That call to the police seemed futile. The Prior Lake Police Department said she was almost eighteen and told Robin there simply wasn't much they could do. Left worried, Robin didn't know what else to do. She expected the police to help more, possibly issue an Amber Alert. Her family is left to try to locate Stephanie on their own.

What is even more frightening to the Burkes is that this behavior is uncharacteristic of their daughter, Stephanie, who is a straight A student looking forward to attending college next year. She met Kottmann while working at a family amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota - Valleyfair. The two had been dating secretly, with both friends and family unaware of their relationship. It is believed that the two are headed towards California or a region with warmer temperatures. Kottmann attended school in California and dropped out last year. Stephanie did not pack any clothes for cold weather.

Petitioners showing little
regard for taxpayers

Stacy Kellenbeck’s July 28
letter misses the boat regarding
the debate. She stated in her letter:
“The debate feels like an
ambush.”
The definition of “ambush” is
“the act of concealing yourself
and lying in wait to attack by
surprise.” The recallers certainly
ambushed Councilor Bill Kangas,
but, in return, were asked
in a public meeting for a debate.
There was no ambush.
The next thing in her letter
was “not having the courtesy to
check the date with the three
chief petitioners.” Did her good
friends on the recall contact
Councilors Kangas, Lisa Berger,
Rob Pell, Mark Townes, and
Ward Warren to have them
check their schedules before filing
the recalls? Maybe the chief
petitioners didn't want to miss
their favorite TV shows on July
29.
The comment about a neutral
moderator was laughable. This
was a debate, not marriage
counseling.
Because of the petitioners’
seeming lack of interest, it
became the councilors’ debate
and their rules. Did the chief
petitioners ask the councilors
before filing the recalls? It’s tit
for tat.
Those who filed the recalls
“started it.” If they cannot
defend or debate the filing of the
Grants Daily
Pass Courier
recalls, they need to get out
their chicken suits or remove
the recalls from the ballot.
Finally, the councilors
always ask questions before
spending taxpayers’ money.
Why are the petitioners spending
$15,000 to $25,000 of taxpayer
money for a recall special election
with no qualms?
Stop the petitioners who are
clowning around with tax dollars.
Say “no’ to recall.
