They say you can find anything on the internet. They lie... like a dog; like a rug, etcetera.

About a decade or so ago I was given a mix-tape by my friend Jason (the) Goodman - of the world-famous Grave Diggers, Jump With Joey, Les Butchers, y mas - that he called "Louisiana Sing-A-Long". Over 30 minutes of killer 45's from the greater New Orleans area in decades past. The 1st song is this soul-stirring track by Dee Dee Ward called "Ballad of a Cajun Girl". This song reaches through my ear canals, past those three little, tiny bones that look like equestrian gear and right down to the core of my humanity. Its ineffable, really. But that is the best way I can describe it. I've axed Jason to find me a copy (usually he has multiples o' the cream of the crop. I know because many of them have made their way to my collection), but he has yet to produce one. Needless to say I have keep my peepers peeled over the years. In fact, this one is always forefront in my mind's eye as I'm rifling through records.

I have worn the Google out looking for a copy, but never come up with any results! Yes, they say you can find anything on the internet, but forgot the end of the statement: "If you're looking for the same old things that normal people are supposed to be looking for."

Do you disagree with that bold assertion? Prove me wrong, please, by helping me find this record:

November 27th marked the anniversary of RadiOblivion. Four years of Wild Sounds & Rock 'N' Roll!

I was gonna take a stab at being clever (thus the post title) and list all the things I consider as "accomplishments", but decided against it due to lack of coffee (laziness) and the fact that it would come across as extremely silly - even for my standards. Instead I'll just leave it at a big fat "thank y'all" for tuning in for each (or, at least some) of the 64 plus adventures in Better Living Through Discarded Music! These bad-boys have been listened to nearly a quarter of a million times. And getting feedback from all the folk that have discovered new favorite bands and tracks through RadiOblivion is what its all about, baby. Thats the biggest accomplishment I can think of, at least.

So get out there and spread the word about all things Wild & Primitive, and we'll see you for the next eppy-sode. And remember...

Chevy Shut Down - Who That Is?

A while back I found this killer little 45 (the small ones with the big holes) at a thrift shop and was just bowled over! I'm partial to the "Hot Rod" genre of the big-beat, so naturally I had to find out about this band, The Jaguars. And so far I've failed. Many hours of searching the Google with every conceivable combo-nation of key words has turned up no results. I've asked some record collector friends (and I'm not talking yer run-of-the-mill "lots of records" guys; I'm talking walking encyclopedias) to no avail. In fact, they've all referred me to bigger walking encyclopedia types that I'm not familiar with; those legendary cats that I ain't fit to run with...

Anyhow, I made this swell little video on the Mac machine in hope of spreading my search to larger drag strips. This film was originally a little over 14 minutes and made in 1958 by, I believe, Hot Rod magazine. As my wife pointed out, saying "you love everything about that film, don't you?" Heck yeah! And you should too. Enjoy this little POUNDER, and tell me more about the band. Please.

The Amazing Altruism Of Friends, Acquaintances and Strangers

Yesterday I swallowed whatever little pride I may have had and posted this blog in a desperate plea for help on behalf of my family. I just have to express how taken aback I am by the amazing altruism of friends, acquaintances and even complete strangers. I am no wordsmith, so to properly express my gratitude leaves me wanting. I don't know what to say except "thank you". To quote a hero of mine - "We live in troubled times; trouble resting on my mind". I'm so accustomed to reading everyday on the news about people that do and say ugly, nasty things that I have forgotten that people like to help people. I hope that one day soon I'll be able to pay the kindness that we have been shown forward.

We are by no means out of the forest. In fact, we may need to set-up camp there. But I want to use this opportunity to publicly express my thanks and gratitude to each of you that have donated, purchased a t-shirt or spread the word about our plight. There are wonderfully kind people our there, and I never want to forget it.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago I got an inter-office memo from station owner/operations manager, Jason "Big Guy" Snyderman, saying to record a new promo spot for rotation on Real Punk Radio, so I snapped to it and recorded one yesterday. I'm quick off the line like that! Long-time listeners of RadiOblivion have probably heard the "I shall become a bat" clip (graciously provided by my long-time friend, Jason the Goodman) that I occasionally insert, in non-sequitur fashion, into the show. I recorded my own version of that and pushed it in to the background of this spot. Its my favorite part.

Take a listen and let me know what you think. It should be put into rotation real soon on the station. I think you can download it from the RadiOblivion is Preposterous blog if any of y'all want to use it. If not, let me know and I'll get you a copy.

Phantom Surfers and Ugly Things and Mojo Workout, Oh My!

The Mojo Workout show, heard each Friday night from 8-11pm, Eastern Time on Real Punk Radio, is where things are happening, friends!

We've got a bunch of super-suave movers n' shakers coming on to get to know you, the discerning music lover. And these guests are POUNDERS! This week we have the incredible Michael "Daddy Love" Lucas of the Phantom Surfers, Sir Dance-A Lot, Repent Records, Rudos and Rubes Publishing, and a whole lot more coming on to spin tales of surfing the San Francisco bay, dancing with men in Bataan, drinking the water in Mexico City, and the proper adorning of spectacles under a fancy mask. So be sure to tune in this Friday, the 17th.

And if that weren't enough, we's just pleased as punch to welcome the legendary Mike Stax of Ugly Things magazine, The Loons and too many other killer-diller things to mention. Samwise: The Not-So-Great Pyrenees

We've got a new member of the family at the Kaiser Haus - a puppy that has been christened Samwise (after Samwise Gamgee, faithful friend of Frodo Baggins). Yes, we're Tolkien nuts over here! We have a cat named Frodo as well. Our other pets have normal names, though, like Steve, Ginny, etc.

Sam is a not-so-Great Pyrenees. One day he'll be great, but for now he's a 9 week old pip-squeak that can hardly get all four limbs working together. But, he looks like a little Polar Bear, and is therefor irresistible.

My wife is an emergency Veterinary Technician. And as such she comes across plenty of perfectly good animals who's owners want to Euthanize for no good reason. We've never "purchased" a pet (well, not the big ones); they've all been rescued. Including our 95 lb. Golden Retriever, Jackson - who is, by the way, the greatest dog in all of dogdom or dog history! Sorry, your's may be a fine dog, but Jackson is just better. There's always someone or something that is better than the rest, and Jackson is that dog. As is the case with Jackson (the Super Dog) - who's owners wanted to put him down as a 12 week old puppy because he was vomiting - Sam's owner wanted him put to sleep because he had the nasty Canine parvovirus. Untreated, its almost always fatal; with treatment the survival rate is 80-95%. "Well, ma'am. This cute little bear looking puppy only has an 85-90% chance of surviving and thriving. What would you like to do?" "Um... Like, I can't be bothered with such slim chances. You'd better KILL IT."

To cut it short, the wife treated Sam, he survived, she called me to see if she could bring him home, I said "nope", she said "well, you have to see him 1st before we decided, she brought him home, and now we have a not-so-Great Pyrenees named Samwise. And he's cute as a bug's ear, too!

RadiOblivion Re-Boot! Initiate Format Change

A few folks may have noticed that there hasn't been a new RadiOblivion podcast eppy-sode in 65 days. Fewer yet may find that troubling.

RadiOblivion hasn't gone anywhere, friends. We've been broadcasting the show LIVE each and every week at Real Punk Radio (in it's new time slot) on Wednesdays at 10:00pm, Eastern Time. And that is such a hoot that we've decided to make a change; re-boot the podcast, so to speak. As soon as the little bug critters and kinks are worked-out, and the levels betwixt the iTunes, turntable, vox, etc. are acceptable for distribution to mp3 playing devices, the live version o' Radioblivion: Wild & Primitive.... LIVE! will take the place of the podcast that some of y'all have been sticking with for nearly four years.

That's right! It does mean a new podcast every week.

The hope is that during tonight's show those bugs will be worked-out, and the levels dialed in, so that next week's show will begin the new podcast format. As the plan stands we'll broadcast live on Wednesday night and upload the podcast the next day. Tune in tonight at 10pm, EDT and join the chat. Let me know how it sounds levels-wise. 200,000 Plus, And Counting

A big, fat, huge "Thank-ee" to all y'all that have pushed the RadiOblivion podcast past the 200,000 download mark (207,800 plus, actually) over the last few years of this Wild Sounds & Rock 'n' Roll slopfest! The swell thing is that things keep moving upward. Since November of 2006 we've joined the GaragePunk Podcast Network, Real Punk Radio, Subculture Collective, and most recently, KGRG 89.9fm, in the the heart of the Pacific Northwest - known to Sound Hounds the world over as the launchin' pad of SAVAGE POUNDERS!

There hasn't been a new eppy-sode of the RadiOblivion podcast in about 55 days now due to the absolute blast we've (I like to make-believe that I'm several folk; thus the "we" all the time) been having with the live version of the show, RadiOblivion: Wild & Primitive... LIVE, heard weekly on the aforementioned Real Punk Radio. But, there's news about the future of the podcast that we're gonna save for another blog post. Not on the 1st Thursday night of the month during the 11:00pm hour. Especially if'n you're listening to KGRG 89.9FM in the Seattle/Tacoma, Washington area. At that time and place y'all will want to be tuning in to the Zorch Radio show to catch the latest eppy-sode o' RadiOblivion, friends.

Yes! Starting this Thursday, August 5th super soul-brother, Jacob, from Zorch Radio, will include RadiOblivion, in it's entirety, every 1st Thursday of the month in the 2nd hour of his fine show.

When I was a lad of about 16 or 17 I was at a movie theater with a whole bunch of folk, and Jason Goodman of the world-famous Grave Diggers, Robert Williams of Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys fame, and Jake Bricks - the late, legendary (and infamous, actually) Rockabilly Barber were over yonder a-ways looking, pointing, and laughing at me. Naturally that made me a bit uncomfortable. Come to find out they're snickering because they thought that I looked like Charles Starkweather, and particularly this specific pic of the man which had graced a Grave Diggers flyer just a short while before the ego-threatening movie theater snickering event.

I have that flyer somewhere. Its about 23 years old now.

Eric Davidson Says: We Never Learn

Some bands are just better than others. New Bomb Turks are amongst the former.

In celebration of Eric Davidson's new book, We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001, the fine folks at Real Punk Radio have secured a live interview with the author (and supercharged front man of the New Bomb Turks) during the weekly PDR show, hosted by Snyderman, Mottey and Tim Pop, baby!! And through much pleading and groveling, yer humble host, Michael Kaiser, will be joining them. Can ya blame me? Check out part of the description on Amazon:

This is the first and only book on the last great wave of punk rock. Musician and journalist Eric Davidson (Village Voice, CMJ, SF Bay Guardian) was there as this scene unfolded, tracking the inspiration and beautiful destruction of this largely undocumented movement. The Black Lips, the late Jay Reatard, The Dirtbombs, the White Stripes, the Reigning Sound, and the Hives (to name but a few) all sprang from an underground music scene where similarly raw bands, enjoying various degrees of success and hard luck, played in venues ranging from dive bars to massive festivals, but were mostly ignored by a music industry focused on mega-bands and shiny pop stars. They reveled in 50s rock n roll and 60s garage rock as much as they did Iggy Pop, the Ramones, and Black Flag, while creating their own wave of gut-busting riffs and rhythm.
