River Conditions

The weather for fishing is peaking since Fall is on the way. It was very Beautiful as you can see the fog just over the river as it got daylight. Fish were swimming up river and it was very peaceful.

The Fishing was best in the early morning as the fish were not spooked and were moving up river freely. I have fished at night before and done very well but I always enjoy the view during the morning and daytime.

Even if you are not a big fisherman or fisherwoman, you will love the beauty of the Manistee river and surrounding area. These photos were taken at on Bear Creek.

Rain this week will trigger a big response from the fish and if you can get to the river you will not be disappointed.

Fish are beginning to work the gravel and the river is alive with the splashing sounds of 15 - 20 + pound fish moving across the shallow gravel.

Bear Creek - Fish ON!

First off this weekend was GREAT! The water was very clear and low, combined with lots of fish in the holes.

I lost count of the number that I broken off.

Salmon Dog

Well it was a great day on Bear Creek.

Plenty of fish in all the holes and everyone had action. I took a mid day break to give my dog Micah a chance to get into the water and cool off.

She is a young Lab and MUST go everywhere that I go or else she is heart broken.

She enjoyed the cool river water, but wasn't too sure about the moving water at first.

It didn't take long for her keen eyes to pick up the movement of fish and she was off to the races.

She had lots of fun as commader of the Gravel run while the Salmon drifted off to the holes and back again.

She wasn't very happy when she had stop playing as I prepared for the evening fishing time.

If you are planning to get out and fish... you should as they are in the river.

Bear creek gravel run

There are fish in the river and it will get better all month. The water is low and clear and the fish are fresh.

Fishing Report From "Desert Mike"

I got a phone report to pass on from my old army buddy Desert Mike - who spends most of his time fishing now that he completed his 2nd tour in Iraq.

He reports that the river is Clear and Low which is good for many but it also hasn't pushed the runs into prime time yet.

He was able to boat some nice kings by Rainbow Bend and the Cement Run.

He reported that fishing was good with thunderstick's and dark body baits with red ladderback or fire tiger patterns.

I am headed to the river as I am doing this mobile post and I will update Live from the water later.

Fishing is excellent! Fished out of Ludington in 30 FOW trolling plugs and spoons on half lead and boards. Orange Crush Spoons rock.

Maniestee Peir Report

Friday September 5th,

What can I say.... Fish On! The fishing is hot at the mouth and outside the breakwalls. If you have your boat ready, get out there. If you like to fish from shore or on the peir this is the time you wait all summer for.

Saw lots of fish coming in and it looks like it will be another Great Season for the Lake Michigan Side.

Bear Creek Report

Sunday September 7th,

Fished Bear Creek today as I enjoy working this part of the river. The fish are just starting to work up into this area. Saw a few people and a few fish but it's early.

I suggest watching this area as it will start to pick up pretty quickly.

Tippy Dam Report

Saturday September 6th,

Visited Tippy Dam to check out the fishing report and wet my lines a bit.

There are some fresh fish stacked up above the coffer as well as a few between the Dam and the saw dust hole.

There wasn't much pressure yet as people are fishing down closer to the lake. If you are looking for some elbow room and fresh fish its worth a try.
