On September 1, 2023, independent musician Stefan West, who is based in the Australian coastal city of Geelong, will release his much anticipated song, “Take What You Need,” which will serve as the first taste of his groundbreaking full-length debut album, “Cambridge.”

Stefan’s music, which combines aspects of alt rock, indie rock, and pop rock, enthrals listeners with its affecting and open storytelling. “Take What You Need” explores the experiences of fully committing to relationships, whether in business, romance, or friendship, only to feel depleted and betrayed when the expectations that have been placed on them aren’t satisfied. “Can’t you see we’re all the same?” asks the song’s soul-searching refrain at the end of its moving lyrics. “Take What You Need” is the result of Stefan West’s own struggle with perseverance and salvation. As he battled addiction, Stefan’s life took a turbulent turn. He felt trapped and alone in the gloom of his troubles. In spite of everything, music became his saviour, giving him a way to convey his suffering, perplexity, and final victory over adversity. During this time of healing, Stefan started using yoga and meditation as tools for inner healing and self-discovery.

These routines turned into crucial instruments in his quest to take back his life and discover a new sense of meaning through music.

For Stefan, the writing of “Take What You Need” was a healing experience. He worked with Aaron Schembri to incorporate his feelings and life experiences into the song’s compelling lyrics, which effectively capture the spirit of his struggles and victories. The song’s genuine emotions are brought out by Chris Gatz’s recording and production at GM Sound Studios.

“This song was really composed about three years ago at the start of Covid while I was working a trade job. I can still picture myself ascending and descending a ladder as I voice-noted the verse’s various phrases.
