De volta aos trabalhos deste blog, temos dessa vez um lançamento de um dos artistas mais sensacionais da industria musical.
Cab Calloway (1907 - 1994) foi um cantor de jazz norte americano que emplacou um dos hits mais expressivos de toda a música, que muitos devem conhecer devido ao sucesso do filme "The Blues Brothers" (1980). Porém, sua música vem bem antes disso e ainda sim muito de seu legado está espalhado por ai.
Um rápido resumo sobre sua carreira nos revela um artista que influenciou várias geração, seja através da música - com hits memoráveis e talento acima do normal - do estilo - como subculturas, por exemplo os Zazous - ou das expressões - com o glossário de expressões dos hepcats, o "Hepster Dictonary" .
Particularmente, esse álbum compilado por Richard Weize Archives traz uma série de gravações um tanto quando obscuras na carreira do cantor, porém, ao mesmo tempo percebe-se a versatilidade de Cab.
Durante os anos 50, já com uma carreira consolidada devido a grandes hits em décadas anteriores, Calloway assina contrato com o selo Bell Records e grava 8 canções, sendo a maioria releituras de hits do momento, que era basicamente a especialidade do selo, e uma regravação de seu hit "Minnie the Moocher". Dentre elas estão canções que, particularmente, seriam inimagináveis na voz do cantor, como "Hey Joe", originalmente por Carl Smith, e "Gambler's Guitar", originalmente por Jim Lowe. Outra canção que chama bastante atenção é "Unchained Melody", uma versão simplesmente linda, e a minha favorita do disco todo, "Such a Night", que realmente mostra que Cab era "hep" o suficiente para gravar uma das canções mais expressivas do rock 'n' roll, que posteriormente seria hit na voz de Elvis Presley.
Outro ponto a ressaltar sobre o disco, é a arte que é simplesmente maravilhosa e muito bem feita. O disco é de 10 polegadas, o formato mais bonito na minha opinião, e vem com uma capa dupla cheia de informação interessante sobre a carreira do cantor e o conteúdo do álbum.
Sobre o selo, Richard Weize é um dos maiores colecionadores e pesquisadores de música, fundador da legendária Bear Family, agora com seu próprio selo, faz parte da parceria com a Rock Star Records com lançamentos simplesmente espetaculares, vale muito a pena conferir.

Finally back to the work, this time I'm gonna show you a record from one of my favorite artists and one of the most remarcable on the musical industry.
Cab Calloway (1907 - 1994) was a jazz singer that had one of the most expressive hits from all times, many of you will remeber his appearence on the movie "The Blues Brothers" (1980). But, his music came way before that and his legacy, luckily, is still around today.
A brief resume about his carreer show us a very impressive artist that influenced many generations, by his music - with legendary hits and expressive talent for singing -, by the style - as subcultures like the Zazous - or by the expressions, with the hepcat glossary "Hepster Dictionary".
Particularly, this record compiled by Richard Weize Archives brings eight obscure recordings from the singer's carreer.
During the 1950s, with a consolidated carreer due to excellent hits in past decades, Cab signed contract with Bell Records label and recorded 8 sides, in its majority, big hits from that era - it was, basically, the label speciality - and his original tune "Minnie the Moocher", with a brand new recording. Between all these songs we have some tunes that, at least for me, was unimaginable in Cab's voice, like "Hey Joe" originally by Carl Smith and "Gambler's Guitar" originally by Jim Lowe. Another song that catches the attention is "Unchained Melody", a beautiful version, and my favorite from the whole album "Such a Night", a song that really show us that Cab was "hep" enough to record a tune that would later become one of Rock 'n' Roll's most expressive songs, later a hit by Elvis Presley.
Another thing to note is the artwork, which is really beautiful and very well made. This is a 10 inch record, my favorite format, and it comes with a double gatefold cover with a lot of interesting information about the singer's history and the record's content.

Ruby Records é resultado da parceria de Tom Ingram (DJ, fundador do Hemsby Rock 'n' Roll Weekend e do Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend) e Ruby Ann (renomada cantora de Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly e Country), sendo um selo focado no lançamento de vinis com grandes nomes do cenário atual, como Big Sandy, Paul Ansell e, o autor do disco de hoje, Pat Capocci, guitarrista e cantor australiano que é um dos melhores do gênero e esse compacto justifica o título.

Excellent new release from one of the most recent and popular labels at the moment: Ruby Records!
Tom Ingram and Ruby Ann, two well known names in the worlwide rockin' scene, teamed up and founded this vinyl release specialized label, with the best of the rockin' music nowadays, featuring names like Big Sandy, Paul Ansell and Pat Capocci, that is one of the best (and one of my favorite) guitarrists at the moment and this record surely justifies the title.
Released in 2016, this is the second 7'' from the label, with two killer floorfiller hits by Pat.
"Coming in Hot" and "Burn it Down Baby" are, without no doubt, two essential songs not only for the DJs but for music lovers in general.
The band features Pat Capocci (guitar, vocals), Till Vex (bass), Ezra Lee (piano) and Andrew Lindsey (drums). The artwork was made by Gito Lima.

Mais um fantástico LP lançado pela Rhythm Bomb, mais uma vez por um excelente artista australiano. No post passado falei sobre Hank's Jalopy Demons, dessa vez vamos falar sobre Benny and The Flybyniters.
Benny Peters, guitarrista, cantor e compositor, está na estrada há vários anos no segmento do Blues e Rhythm & Blues e comanda a banda The Flybyniters.
Nesse disco podemos notar vários aspectos interessantes, a banda é bem entrosada (nota-se muito em “Benny's Bop”, um instrumental que realmente foge do comum), a sonoridade é fantástica, as canções chamam atenção. Tem um pouco para cada tipo de pessoa.
Se você é um jiver ou gosta de algo mais uptempo, temos a fantástica “Watch Yourself”, que dá nome ao disco e “Crazy Crazy Baby”, que na minha opinião é a minha canção favorita no disco. Se você quer algo mais smooth, “Take Off Mama” e “Texas Bound”, se procura um blues bem feito, “Can't Get Along” e “The Blues is a Feeling” são excelentes canções para você, essa última com uma atmosfera bem obscura, e como sempre, unanimemente os metais e breaks de guitarra chamam muita atenção, além da cozinha sempre no ponto certo.
Definitivamente é um disco que dá orgulho de se ter na coleção, tanto pelo sonoridade quanto pela arte, que nesse caso ficou por conta de Gito Lima (que já desenhou capas para vários artistas como Big Sandy, Coral Lee, etc).

Another fantastic LP released by Rhythm Bomb Records, with another excellent Australian artist. In the previous post, I've talked about Hank's Jalopy Demons, this time we're going to talk about Benny and the Flybyniters.

Benny Peters, guitarrist, singer and song writter, has been on the road for many years playing Blues and Rhythm and Blues, and also takes the lead on his band The Flybyniters.

In this record we can experience various interesting aspects, the band is right on the spot (you can notice their musical chemistry while listening to “Benny's Bop”, an instrumental that "walks out the box"), the sonority is fantastic, the songs keep you interested all the time. Basically, there's something for everybody.

If you're a jiver or likes something a more uptempo, we have “Watch Yourself”, that entitles the album, and “Crazy Crazy Baby”, my favorite song in the record so far. If you want some smooth stuff, “Take Off Mama” and “Texas Bound”, if you gotta that bluesy feeling, “Can't Get Along” and “The Blues is a Feeling” are the songs for you, this last one brings a very obscure atmosphere, and as usual, unanimously the sax sections and the guitar breaks caught all the attention, but the backing band is always keeping the beat right on the spot, this is fantastic!

Definitely, this is a record that makes you a proud person for having it on your collection, not only for the sound which is fantastic, but for the artwork too, this time, made by Gito Lima.

Hank's Jalopy Demons é uma banda australiana (novamente os australianos mandando muito bem!) que fazem um som autoral de extrema qualidade e com sonoridade bem fiel à gravações dos anos 50. Os músicos que formam a banda são bem experientes e já integraram grupos como Stringbusters, Starliners e Benny and the Flybyniters.
O disco começa com um dos meus boppers favoritos “Damn Their Hides”, excelente canção, com um fantástica riff de guitarra, segue com canções excelentes como “No Shoes” e o stroll “The Jackal” e novamente a sonoridade impressiona, sem falar dos excelentes vocais de Hank Ferguson.
O lado B começa com uma canção fortemente influenciada por Westen Swing, “Blue Knuckle Ride”, outro ponto forte do disco seguido por “Mess you up”, que foi a primeira canção que ouvi da banda.
Outra música que entrou como minha favorita é “I'm All Yours”: vocais simplesmente maravilhosos.
A banda conta com Hank Ferguson (vocais e violão), Dave Cantrell (guitarras e backing vocals), Til Vex (baixo e backing vocals) e Andrew Lindsay (bateria).

If you are looking for authentic Rockabilly, then look no further. You have found some cool stuff.

Hank's Jalopy Demons is a quartet from Australia and they make fantastic and high quality Rockabilly and 50s Rock 'n' Roll. Its members once formed bands like Stringbusters, Starliners and Benny and the Flybyniters, so we are talking about a very experient group in this 50s scene.

The record kicks out with an excellent bopper “Damn their Hides”, simply a hit with a killer guitar riff. “No Shoes” is another fantastic song which deserves total highlight as so does “The Jackal”, a great stroll. The sound is very impressive, just like Hank Ferguson's vocals

The B side starts with a heavily western swing influenced song “Blue Knuckle Ride”, another fantastic song, followed by “Mess You up”, which was the first song I've heard from the band.

“I'm All Yours” surely is one of my favorite tunes in this album, great vocals, amazing!

The band features Hank Ferguson (vocals and rhythm guitar), Dave Cantrell (lead guitar, steel and harmonies), Til Vex (bass and harmonies) and Andrew Lindsay (drums).

Excelente guitarrista, compositor e cantor francês, Nico Duportal e seus Rhythm Dudes trazem a mais completa essência do Rhythm and Blues, Blues e Rock 'n' Roll em 12 faixas neste long play.
Gravado em 2014 no BLR Recording Studio, masterizado por Axel Praefcke no famoso estúdio Lightning Recorders.
O capricho em cada detalhe da gravação impressiona demais, mantém autenticidade e qualidade simultaneamente.
A canção que abre o disco é "When I'm Gone", um Rock 'n' Roll uptempo que já causa de cara uma ótima impressão ao ouvinte.
"Polish Woman" (escrita por Nico Duportal e Thibaut Chopin) e "Oh Baby" são perfeitos exemplos da qualidade de gravação deste disco.
Outra canção de blues que chamou minha atenção particularmente foi "Big Mary's", principalmente por sua levada mais smooth, realmente um dos pontos fortes do disco.
O excelente instumental "Josh & Slim", composto por Nico Duportal, é um show à parte.
Temos também dois excelentes covers de duas excelentes canções: "Oh Oh" e "Much Later".
Outra coisa interessante a se observar é que o disco é repleto de influencias como na cação "I Can't Afford to Lose Her", onde a sonoridade me lembrou bastante as gravações de Little Walter pela Chess. Percebe-se também a influencia de Mickey Baker e Ike Turner na sonoridade que Nico oferece da forma mais autêntica possível.

Fabulous guitarrist, song writer and singer from France, Nico Duportal and his Rhythm Dudes brings the complete essence of Rhythm and Blues, Blues and Rock 'n' Roll in this 12-track LP.
Recorded in 2014 at BLR Recording Studio, mastered by Axel Praefcke at Lightning Recorders, every detail in the recording makes everything so impressive.
The opening song in the record is "When I'm Gone", a wild uptempo Rock 'n' Roll, then we have "Polish Woman" (written by Nico Duportal and Thibaut Chopin) and "Oh Baby", perfect examples of recording quality.
Another song that caught my attention was "Big Mary's", nice smooth blues, a real hight point in this record.

Fantástica banda que conheci há pouco tempo através do canal Bopflix no Youtube (corre pra lá depois de ler esse post, só tem coisa fina).
The Rip 'em Ups é uma banda norte americana, diretamente de Los Angeles, e trazem consigo o visceral som do rock 'n' roll do final dos anos 50 e comecinho dos anos 60. Entre as diversas influências, podemos citar Link Wray e Little Richard principalmente.
Esse EP da banda é matador, com o hit "I Wanna Love You" (essa canção vai explodir sua cabeça) e "Comprendene Nena", uma energética versão de "Ooh! My Head" do lado A e o instrumental "In N Out Shout!" e um cover da banda Rodger and the Tempests com "Bad Bad Way" no lado B.
Atualmente possuem contrato com a Rhythm Bomb Records e lançaram o CD "Killswitch!" (que inclui três regravações das canções encontradas nesse EP) e aparecem em diversas coletâneas da gravadora.

Fantastic band that I first heard of with their clip on Bopflix Youtube channel (check it out, great stuff there).
The Rip 'Em Ups are a north-american band, right from Los Angeles, and they play a very iconic late 50s / early 60s Rock 'n' Roll. Their major influences are Link Wray and Little Richard.
About this EP, it's a killer! With "I Wanna Love You" (this song will blow your head off) e "Comprendene Nena", an energetic version of Ritchie Valens' "Ooh! My Head", on A side and the instro "In N Out Shout!" and a Rodger and the Tempests' "Bad Bad Way" cover on the B side.
They signed with Rhythm Bomb Records, released their latest CD "Killswitch!" (which includes 3 re-recordings from the songs in this EP) and also they have various songs in some of the label's compilations.

Essa postagem é bem especial, pois trago hoje o CD da banda Lennon Z and the Sickboys Trio, excelente banda do sul do Brasil.
O disco é repleto de rockabilly bops, como "Love Trick" e selvagem "Grab it and Don't Drop it".
A banda também faz suas passagens por canções mais sombrias como "Long Black Train" e "Feeling Blue", e outras com uma pitada de Tennessee Three como em "I'm Back Home".
Difícil escolher uma canção favorita dentre tantas ótimas, porém a que mais devo ter ouvido foi "Set Me Free", que inclusive o próprio Lennon Z faz a guitarra principal.

This is a very special post, because today I bring you another great band from my country, Brazil. Lennon Z and the Sickboys Trio.
This CD is full of great rockabilly boppers, like "Love Trick" and a wild "Grab it and Don't Drop it".
The band give us a taste of its obscure songs with "Long Black Train" and "Feeling Blue", and the Tennessee Three sound-alike "I'm Back Home".
It's hard to select one favorite song between this variety of great tunes, but I can tell you that I heard "Set Me Free" a million times, song that features Lennon Z on the lead guitar.
Finally, what we can tell from this record it's the band's chemistry and talent are very clear on every track. I have to say that this record was a very pleasent surprise to me and it's real fine work.
Most of all, Lennon Z and the Sickboys trio will be playing at the next edition of Viva Las Vegas, so if you're going to VLV, catch 'em up, you'll not be disappointed. Congratulations, boys!

"Shoot My Blues Away" é o mais recente lançamento de Dale Rocka and the Volcanoes pelo selo Rhythm Bomb.
O EP vem carregado por uma sonoridade bem fiel e autentica, crú e simples, posso dizer.
O canção título "Shoot My Blues Away" é simplesmente excelente, seguida de "Last Train", onde a fidelidade impressiona muito. Se eu não soubesse de mais informações, poderia jurar que essa canção era de algum selo pequeno americano diretamente dos anos 50.
A simplicidade é um ponto extremamente positivo aqui.
Outra coisa que não é necessária ser ressaltada é a qualidade dos vocais e da banda em geral, o que faz com que Dale Rocka and the Volcanoes seja uma das melhores bandas da atualidade.
A última canção do lado B merece um destaque bem grande, "What You Want", já que tem aquele tempero de Rhythm and Blues que me agrada demais.
Todas as canções do disco foram escritas por Massimo 'Dale' Rocca.

"Shoot My Blues Away" is the latest release from this italian band Dale Rocka and the Volcanoes on Rhythm Bomb Records.
Raw and wild are the words that can define this fine record.
The main theme, "Shoot My Blues Away", is excelent, followed by "Last Train", which you could easily tell that it's a 50s recording from a small american label.
The simplicity is a very positive point here, as it matches with the high skilled vocals of mr. Dale Rocka and his high talented band The Volcanoes, which makes this band one of the best bands from today's scene
The last song from side two is "What You Want", a real rockin' gem with lots of Rhythm and Blues feeling added to it. Loved it!
All the songs were written by Massimo 'Dale' Rocca.

Joanatan Richard é um cantor, compositor e guitarrista do nordeste do Brasil, lá de Pernambuco. Esse EP em 33rpm é mais um ótimo lançamento em sua carreira, seu segundo trabalho solo.
Nesse disco podemos apreciar 4 canções autorais, duas com participações especiais.
No lado A, "Hey Everybody" dá o tema do EP, e é um Jumpin' Blues bastante interessante, seguido da balada "I'm Not Here Just for Business". Nessa última gravação, eu participo na guitarra principal, e posso dizer que foi uma honra imensa poder deixar minha marca nesse trabalho tão importante.
No lado B temos "God Gave Me the Music", com participação especial de Dastaev Gomes, dos The Bop Hounds, em alguns versos.
O disco termina com uma canção que chama a atenção pela autenticidade e ao mesmo tempo fidelidade ao som dos anos 50: "1, 2, 3, 4... Once More".
O disco possui um encarte duplo com bastante informação interessante, inclusive na contracapa temos um comentário feito por Rockin' Ronnie Weiser a respeito do lançamento.
A masterização do EP foi feita na Lightning Recorders Studio em Berlim, por Axel Praefcke, porém, todo o resto do trabalho (incluindo capa, prensagem do disco e etc) foi feito no Brasil e posso afirmar que o resultado ficou excelente.

Joanatan Richard is a singer, song writer and guitar player from Pernambuco, Brazil. This 33rpm EP is one of his finest releases, the second solo record of him.
In this particular release we can listen to 4 original rockin' songs, including some very special guests in 2 two of them.
In the A side, "Hey Everybody" is the main theme of this EP and it's a cool jumpin' blues, followed by the country ballad "I'm Not Here Just for Business". In this last one, I'm the special guest on the electric guitar, and I can say I'm very humbled to work on this release.
In the B side we have "God Gave Me the Music", featuring Dastaev Gomes, from The Bop Hounds, on the vocals.
The record ends with a song that draws attention because of its fidelity to a vintage 50s sound: "1, 2, 3, 4... Once More".
This EP have a good looking sleeve cover, which include a review by mr. Rockin' Ronnie Weiser in the rear side:

Joanatan was born in Brazil but he has a little bit of Texas in his soul as you can hear in "I'm Not Here Just for Business", a melancholic Western song which sure is a hit!
Rockabilly is coming on strong in Brazil and songs such as "Hey Everybody", "1234... Once More" and "God Gave Me the Music" showcase Joanatan's dexterity in different rockin' styles.

O disco começa com a canção título "Doggone Blue", que tem total destaque no lado A. O hillbilly bop "Quit that Drinkin'" fecha o primeiro lado do EP que segue com "Red Hot Baby" e "I Was Wrong" na face seguinte.
Todas as canções foram escritas pelo próprio Nelson Carrera.
A arte ficou por conta de Don De Vil, que já fez e ainda faz vários trabalhos para a Rhythm Bomb e outros selos no cenário de 50s Rock 'n' Roll / Rockabilly.

This is the latest EP recorded by Nelson Carrera, this time backed by the Scoundrels.
It was released by Tessy Records and distribuited by Rhythm Bomb and Records Freight. Differently from his previous release (Love is a Trap), this one is a drumless record, so, very traditional 50s sound.
This record starts with "Doggone Blue", which draws all the attention in the A side. The hillbilly bop "Quit that Drinkin'" closes the first side.
The B side is followed with "Red Hot Baby" and "I Was Wrong".
Every song in this EP was written by Nelson.
The artwork was made by Don De Vil (you can see in the pictures above).
The band features Nelson Carrera (vocals and rhythm guitar), Raphaël Decaix (guitar) and Mario Jorge Pires (upright bass).
This 7'' EP was released in blue vinyl (limited edition) and in traditional black vinyl too.

Conway Twitty é o nome artístico de Harold L. Jenkins (1 de setembro de 1933 - 5 de junho de 1993), que foi um reconhecido cantor de Rock 'n' Roll e Country.
Esse disco é a edição brasileira de "The Rock & Roll Story", lançado em 1961 pela MGM e traz 12 gravações de clássicos do Rock 'n' Roll com o toque de Conway Twitty. De fato, o disco todo é de regravações, com exceção de "It's Only Make Believe", que talvez foi o maior hit de Conway Twitty nos anos 50.
Começa com uma energética versão de "Reelin' and a Rockin'", de Chuck Berry, de cara já é minha canção favorita.
Ainda segue com "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going on" e "Splish Splash", em versões bem características, assim como "Blue Suede Shoes".
O lado A termina com a única canção que não é uma versão: "It's Only Make Believe", que, como citado anteriormente, foi o maior hit de Conway Twitty.
O lado B começa com uma energética versão de "Shake, Rattle and Roll". Mais a frente temos dois clássicos de Elvis Presley, "Jailhouse Rock" e "Treat Me Nice".
O disco termina com "The Girl Can't Help it", uma versão bastante interessante para um grande sucesso de Little Richard.
Esse LP foi lançado em outros países também, alguns com capas diferentes da versão original americana, como na França (saiu sob o título original e como "Le Vrai Rock" em 1965), Canadá, África do Sul e Reino Unido (esse em 1972).

Conway Twitty is the artistic name of Harold L. Jenkins (September 1, 1933 - June 5, 1993), a famous rock 'n' roll and country singer.
This LP is the brazilian edition of "The Rock & Roll Story", released in 1961 by MGM and it brings 12 recordings of classic rock 'n' roll tunes with a special touch by Conway Twitty. In fact, everything featured here is a version, except "It's Only Make Believe", probably the biggest hit in Twitty's career in the 50s.
It starts with "Reelin' and a Rockin'", originally by Chuck Berry, and I can say that it's my favorite song on this record.
"Whole Lotta Shakin' Going on" and "Splish Splash" were shown here in very characteristic versions, as well as "Blue Suede Shoes".
The A side ends it a Conway Twitty's original hit: "It's Only Make Believe", aforementioned as his biggest hit.
The B side starts it a killer version of "Shake, Rattle and Roll". Two Elvis Presley's early RCA era classics were recorded on this side, "Jailhouse Rock" and "Treat Me Nice".
It ends with "The Girl Can't Help it", great version of this Little Richard's very successful hit.
This LP was released in some other countries, some with different front cover, like France (it was released with the original title and "Le Vrai Rock" in 1965), Canada, South Africa and UK (1972).

Rusty Pinto é bem conhecido no cenário de Rock 'n' Roll / Rockabilly mundial, participou de alguns festivais pelo mundo todo com suas bandas Rusty and the Dragstrip Trio, Rusty Pinto Combo e Shotdown from Sugartown.
Sua voz é fantástica, talvez um dos melhores cantores desse cenário Revival (pelo menos na minha opinião), e, dessa vez junto a CC Jerome, gravou esse fantástico LP de R&B.
Começa com "Mary Lou", canção de Ronnie Hawkins, que gosto muito. Logo em seguida o tema principal do disco, "Just One More Time", composta por Ike Turner. Realmente uma versão fantástica.
Minha canção favorita do disco é co-creditada ao próprio CC Jerome, "Deacon Jones' Wife".
A canção seguinte, que também fecha o lado A, é "Hold My Hand", um energético Rock 'n' Roll, escrita pelo próprio Rusty.
O lado B começa com "Stumbling Block Blues", de Jack Dupree. Ótima versão também, que merece destaque.
"One More Year to Go" é uma ótima balada, gravada por Janis Martin.
A canção seguinte é de um jovem BB King, "Woke up this Morning". Rusty e CC fizeram um ótimo trabalho nessa versão também.
O disco termina com "Flirty Mae", co-creditada a CC Jerome, e também é outro energético rock 'n' roll.
O disco é simplesmente fantástico, essencial para todos que gostam de R&B e Rock 'n' Roll, bem como para os DJs que não podem deixar uma pista vazia.

Rusty Pinto is quite well known in the worlwide Rock 'n' Roll / Rockabilly scene. He played in some very important festivals and weekenders around the world with his bands Rusty Pinto and the Dragstrip Trio, Rusty Pinto Combo and Shotdown from Sugartown.
He got a fantastic voice, maybe one of the best I've heard in this Revival scene, and, this time with CC Jerome, he recorded this fantastic R&B LP and it was released by Rhythm Bomb.
It starts with "Mary Lou", a great Ronnie Hawkins' song. The next song is "Just One More Time", wrote by Ike Turner. Rusty and CC recorded a fine version of this tune.
My favorite song in this LP is credited to CC Jerome, "Deacon Jones' Wife".
The following song which closes the A side is "Hold My Hand", a very energetic Rock 'n' Roll, written by Rusty Pinto.

The B side starts with "Am I" and it's followed by a great Jack Dupree tune: "Stumbling Block Blues". This version is a killer.
"One More Year to Go" is a cool R&B ballad, also recorded by Janis Martin.
Then we have an early BB King song "Woke Up this Morning". Rusty and CC done a great job on this one too.
It ends with "Flirty Mae", credited to mr. CC Jerome, another killer wild rock 'n' roll track.
This album is simply fantastic, essential record for those who love jumpin' R&B and Rock 'n' Roll, as well as for DJs who can't stand an empty dance floor.

Lançado em 2014 pela Crazy Times Records, que é uma gravadora independente francesa, "Hours with the Owls" é o primeiro disco de Jack Face com os Rustic Echoes.
Jack começou a tocar e cantar rockabilly no começo dos anos 70, teve uma banda bastante conhecida chamada The Volcanoes (Jack Face and the Volcanoes) e juntos lançaram dois CDs.
Esse trio francês de rockabilly primitivo é composto por Jack Face (violão e vocais), JP Cardot (baixo) e Bastien Alzuria (guitarra).
O EP em questão possui 4 versões muito bem feitas e fiés, incluindo "Hours with the Owls" de George Wormington, "Just a Friend" de Jim Eden, que é minha favorita, demonstrando o lado hillbilly do trio, "Daddy Sings the Blues" de Floyd Fletcher, que é um obscuro hillbilly bop de 1971, e "Hey Little Crawfish" de Don Michel.

O disco todo é bem interessante, desde as canções até a capa dura.

Released in 2014 by Crazy Times Records, an independent french rock 'n' roll record label, "Hours with the Owls" is the first record by Jack Face with the Rustic Echoes.
Jack started play and sing rockabilly in the early 70s, he had a quite well known band called The Volcanoes (Jack Face and the Volcanoes) and together they released two CDs.
This rustic primitive french rockabilly trio features Jack Face (acoustic guitar and vocals), JP Cardot (upright bass) and Bastien Alzuria (lead guitar).
The EP bring us 4 fantastic versions incluinding "Hours with the Owls" originally by George Wormington, "Just a Friend" originally by Jim Eden, which is my favorite song in this one, showing all the hillbilly side of this trio, "Daddy Sings the Blues" by Floyd Fletcher, an obscure hillbilly bop from 1971, and "Hey Little Crawfish" by Don Michel.
This record is very interesting, from the songs until its hard cover sleeve.

Tex Williams (23 de Agosto de 1917 - 11 de Outubro de 1985) é um dos meus cantores favoritos da música country. Nasceu em Illinois e foi um cantor de western swing bastante reconhecido por sua voz, que era realmente um diferencial. Williams começou como vocalista na banda de Spade Cooley, porém atingiu as paradas em 1947 com o hit "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (That Cigarette)", escrita por Merle Travis, que ficou no topo das paradas por 16 semanas. Também foi o primeiro disco da Capitol Records a vender 1 milhão de cópias.
O disco em questão é da Decca, o qual eu já vinha namorando faz um tempinho, vem com "New Nine Pound Hammer" no lado A, que é simplesmente incrível, combinação de metais com guitarra elétrica foi muito bem feita aqui.
O lado B é "Pauline" com participação do grupo vocal Anita Kerr Singers.
Ambas as canções também aparecem no 10'' Hillbilly Jamboree da Brunswick (subsidiária da Decca).

Tex Williams (August 23, 1917 - October 11, 1985) is one of my favorite country music singers. He was born in Illinois and he was a western swing singer very well known by his voice, it was a strong differential.
Williams started as a vocalist in the Spade Cooley's band, but he hit the charts in 1947 with "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (That Cigarette)", written by Merle Travis. It held the #1 position for 16 weeks and was the first capitol single to sell 1 million copies.
This particular 7'' was released by Decca, which I really was looking for a long time, and it comes with "New Nine Pound Hammer" in the A side, that's an incredible song, a killer combination between wind instruments and guitar.
The B side is "Pauline" featuring the Anita Kerr Singers.
Both songs were released on a 10'' called Hillbilly Jamboree by Brunswick (subsidiary of Decca Records).

Cab Calloway (25/12/1907 - 18/11/1994) foi um famoso cantor de jazz norte americano. Participou de alguns filmes de bastante sucesso como The Blues Brothers.
Essa coletânea da CBS (I Love Jazz / Collector Jazz Series) traz o que foi de melhor na carreira de Cab Calloway, 16 canções que contam a versatilidade e carisma do cantor.
O disco começa com "Jumpin Jive", que de cara já é minha canção favorita, demonstrando todo o estilo divertido de Cab. Outra coisa interessante no disco, são as informações a respeito de cada sessão de gravação das respectivas músicas, que em sua maioria foram gravadas entre 1935 e 1947, em Chicago ou Nova Iorque.
"A Chicken Ain't Nothing But a Bird" é também outra canção que merece destaque, assim como "St. James Infirmary", com seu estilo sombrio.
No lado B, "Calloway Boogie" chama bastante atenção, seguida pelo que talvez é o maior hit da carreira de Cab Calloway: "Minnie the Moocher".
Essa canção foi gravada e regravada pelo próprio artista inúmeras vezes, a versão que o disco traz é a de 1945.
Algumas referências pela internet dizem que Minnie realmente existiu, era uma figura de 82 anos bastante conhecida em Indianopolis, seu real nome era Minnie Gayton, e pedia comida em mercearias e as levava embora em um carrinho de bebê. Provavelmente, morreu em Novembro de 1951.
"Oh Grandpa" também merece destaque, assim como "Jungle King", escrita pelo legendário Willie Dixon.
O disco termina com "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House", que também aparece na trilha sonora do video game Mafia II.
Essa série da CBS ainda traz outros grandes nomes do Jazz como Duke Ellingtn, Louis Armstrong e Benny Goodman.

Cab Calloway (December 25, 1907 - November 18, 1994) was a very famous american jazz singer. He acted in some movies like The Blues Brothers.
This CBS (I Love Jazz / Jazz Collector Series) compilation brings the very best in Cab Calloway's career, 16 great tunes to tell his versatility and charisma.
It starts with "Jumpin Jive", which is my favorite song, showing all his unique singing style. The information about the recording sessions of each track is another interesting thing in this record, most of the songs here were recorded between 1935 and 1947, in Chicago or New York.
"A Chicken Ain't Nothing But a Bird" it's another song that deserves mention, just like "St. James Infirmary" and its obscure style.
In the B side, "Calloway Boogie" steals the show, followed by the most successful hit in his career: "Minnie the Moocher".
This song was recorded and rerecorded a thousand times by him, the version featured in this LP is from 1945.
Some references around the internet say that Minnie really existed, and she was a 82 year old very familiar figure down in Indianopolis, her real name was Minnie Gayton and she used to beg food from grocers and put it a baby buggy. She probably died in November, 1951.
"Oh Grandpa" deserves some mention, just like "Jungle King", song wrote by the legendary Willie Dixon.
The B side ends with "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House", which was featured on the soundtrack of the video game Mafia II.

Mais outro fantástico lançamento da Rhythm Bomb Records, dessa vez com uma banda da Itália: Dale Rocka and the Volcanoes.
O disco foi lançado em 10'' e chama atenção desde as músicas até o selo e capa, já que a arte ficou por conta de Don De Vil (um especialista quando se fala de artwork vintage).
O disco começa com o tema principal "Midnight Ball" e logo de cara os timbres impressionam. É bastante fiel ao tipo de gravação que era feita por alguns artistas nos anos 50: crú e rústico.
O talento e entrosamento da banda chama atenção, principalmente em "Devil in Me".
"Remember Last Night" é minha canção favorita no lado A do disco, tudo é bastante característico e marcante. Desse lado todas as canções foram compostas pelo próprio Massimo Rocca.
O lado B já começa com outra selvageria, "Mama Bring Back (My Blue Suede Shoes)", ai já fica bem claro as várias influências do grupo, eu particularmente achei que os timbres lembram bastante os das gravações em que o Nashville A-Team participava.
A canção seguinte é "Bad Blood", um bop obscuro seguido de "Willa Mae", que é uma canção de Al Casey, que gravou com bastante gente importante como Sanford Clark e Jody Reynolds, um dos meus guitarristas favoritos.
O disco termina com uma versão energética de "Rag Mop", outra música que gosto bastante.
A banda é composta por Massimo 'Dale' Rocca (vocais e violão), Luca Ciriacono (baixo acústico), Vince Mannino (guitarra) e Giovanni Ziino (bateria).

Another great release by Rhythm Bomb Records, this time with a great italian band: Dale Rocka and the Volcanoes.
This LP was released in 10'' and it draws attention from the songs to the label and cover designed by Don De Vil (expert when it comes to vintage artwork).
The record kicks off with the main theme "Midnight Ball" and since the first second the timbers are impressive. It's very true to the style of sounding from some artists and bands in the 1950s: raw and rustic.
The band's talent is very noticeable in "Devil in Me".
"Remember Last Night" is my favorite song in the A side, everything is very characteristic and outstanding. In this side, every single song was written by Massimo Rocca.
The B side starts with another wild song, "Mama Bring Back (My Blue Suede Shoes)", and the band's influence is very clear, I particularly think that the tones sounded very similar to the Nashville A-Team recordings.
The next song is "Bad Blood", an obscure bop followed by "Willa Mae", written by Al Casey, who recorded with very important artists in the 50s like Sanford Clark and Jody Reynolds, one of my favorite guitarists.
It ends with a wild version of "Rag Mop", another classic tune.
The band features Massimo 'Dale' Rocca (vocals and acoustic guitar), Luca Ciriacono (upright bass), Vince Manino (electric guitar) and GIovanni Ziino (drums).

George Jones, conhecido também por The Possum e Thumper Jones, sem dúvidas é um dos grande nomes da música country e o LP "White Lightning" traz um pouco disto e vai mais além também.
Nascido em 1931 em Beaumont, Texas, George começou a mostrar interesse por música country num período servindo na marinha. Logo depois começou uma carreira como DJ na rádio KTRM, aprendeu a tocar violão e em 1954 assinou contrato com a Starday Records.
O LP em questão foi lançado em 1984, substituindo um antigo 10'' lançado e já deletado do catalogo da Ace também (10 CH 13). Na versão de 12'' foram adicionadas mais três canções que inicialmente não estavam presentes no disco e previamente não teriam sido lançadas até então, que são "Boogie Woogie Mexican Boy", "My Sweet Imogene" e "Don't Stop the Music". "You Gotta Be My Baby" também foi incluída no lançamento em 12'' de 1984.
O disco começa com "White Lightning", canção clássica e bem conhecida, seguida de "Rock it", uma verdadeira jóia quando se fala em rockabilly. Originalmente foi lançada em 1956 junto com "How Come it" e creditada ao pseudônimo de George, que era Thumper Jones, já que o mesmo não queria ter seu nome diretamente envolvido no meio rock 'n' roll no momento.
"Taggin' Along" é uma hillbilly bop religioso, uma das minhas canções favoritas do disco.
"Boogie Woogie Mexican Boy" e "You Gotta Be My Baby" abrilhantam ainda mais o lado A do disco, já que como citado anteriormente, não estavam na primeira edição em 10''.
O lado A termina com a fantástica "Revenooer Man", que apareceu originalmente no LP de 1963 da Mercury Records, "The Novelty Side of George Jones".
O lado B começa com outro clássico, "Who Shot Sam", regravado por vários outros artistas como Wanda Jackson e Roger Miller.
O disco segue com mais algumas canções que foram gravadas pela Starday ainda no início da carreira de George Jones. A banda da casa era composta por nomes como Hal Harris (guitarra principal), Herbie Remmingston (steel guitar) e Doc Lewis (piano).
"How Come it" é outro tesouro, assim como "Rock it", citado anteriormente.
"Don't Stop the Music" e "Maybe Little Baby" fecham esse baita disco.
Basicamente tudo foi gravado pela Starday Records, com exceção de "White Lightning", "Revenooer Man", "Who Shot Sam" e "Maybe Little Baby".

George Jones, a.k.a. The Possum or Thumper Jones, without a shadow of doubt is a big country music star and this LP "White Lightning" brings it and goes further.
George was born in 1931, in Beaumont, Texas, started to show his interest in country music from a period spent serving the Marines. After his discharge, started his carrer as a DJ on Radio KTRM, then learned how to play guitar and eventually joined Starday Records.
This LP was released in 1984, replacing the old 10'' which was deleted from Ace catalogue (10 CH 13). In this most recent version we have some new tracks previously unreleased, "Boogie Woogie Mexican Boy", "My Sweet Imogene" and "Don't Stop the Music". "You Gotta Be My Baby" was included in this 1984 12'' release too.
It starts with "White Lightning", very classic and well known song, followed by "Rock it", a real rockabilly gem. Originally it was released in 1956 with "How Come it" and was credited to George's pseudonym Thumper Jones, once that he didn't wanted to be related with the rock 'n' roll thing in that time.
"Taggin' Along" is a gospel hillbilly bop, one of my favorite songs in this record.
"Boogie Woogie Mexican Boy" and "You Gotta Be My Baby", they brighten up the A side, as they wasn't present on the 10'' edition.
This side ends with the rockin' "Revenooer Man", it appears on the 1963 LP "The Novelty Side of George Jones".
The B side starts with another classic, "Who Shot Sam", also recorded by Wanda Jackson and Roger Miller. We can listen to some other songs recorded by Starday Records featuring the fantastic house band: Hal Harris (lead guitar), Herbie Remmingston (steel guitar) and Doc Lewis (piano).
"How Come it" is another rockin' killer tune, just like "Rock it".
"Don't Stop the Music" and "Maybe Little Baby" close this fantastic album.
Basically, almost everything were recorded by Starday in George Jones' early days, except "White Lightning", "Revenooer Man", "Who Shot Sam" and "Maybe Little Baby".
As it is written in the back cover of the LP, this is a definitive collection of George Jones' early recordings and rockin' sides, and it is a essential album for those who appreciate Rockabilly and Country Music.

"Goodbye Romance" é minha favorita do disco, outra belíssima canção seguida de "Endless Night", um hillbilly bop de primeira
O disco termina com "Wonder", outra ótima canção, recheada de backing vocals.
Durante o disco todo percebe-se o talento individual dos músicos e do conjunto inteiro como banda, destaque para os timbres de guitarra, que para quem toca e gosta, assim como eu, é uma grande referência.

This album starts with a beautiful and melodic song "Why Even Try", and we can have a big impression of what this CD is all about: completly melodic and 'well-crafted' instrumentals and vocals, as we can listen to in "Starlight Alone" and "She's Trouble".
"Goodbye Romance" it's my favorite song on this one, another beautiful song followed by "Endless Night", a cool hillbilly bop.
It ends with "Wonder", another fabulous song, with great backing vocals.
During this album we can notice the individual talents of each musician and the band itself, and the guitar tones draws attention, for those who play, like me, it's a good reference.

A primeira postagem do blog a respeito de um disco de country music não poderia ser de um disco menos importante. A Columbia lançou fantásticas séries como essa (Columbia Historic Edition), com diversos artistas, com ótimas ilustrações na capa e preciosas informações sobre a carreira do artista e as canções registradas no disco.
Nesse caso, a série traz uma compilação de 12 canções importantes da carreira de Carl Smith, algumas nunca lançadas antes.
O disco começa com "Mr. Moon", uma linda balada seguida por "(When You Feel Like You're in Love) Don't Just Stand There", um hillbilly bop bem interessante, bastante conhecida na voz do artista.
A canção que segue é a minha favorita, não só nesse disco, mas na carreira toda de Carl Smith. "There She Goes" é outra balada melancólica falando sobre corações partidos, simplesmente vale o disco por si só.
Os dois lados do disco terminam com canções religiosas gravadas em 11 de Abril de 1952, com acompanhamento de Mother Maybelle e das irmãs Carter, porém, nesse caso, o lado A termina com "Softly and Tenderly".
O lado B começa com outra interessante balada melancólica, "No Second Chance", gravada em 1953.
Ao longo do disco podemos ouvir um grande trabalho de steel guitar, como em "I Overlooked an Orchid", outra canção bem famosa na voz de Carl Smith, e assim como outras nesse disco, foi regravada e lançada no LP de 1963 "Carl Smith's Greatest Hits".
O disco termina com "Amazing Grace", um clássico dos hinos, com o mesmo "time" de "Softly and Tenderly".

This very first post about country music could not bring another great artist than mr. Carl Smith. Columbia Records released some great series just like this (Columbia Historic Edition), with fantastic country music artists, impressive artwork and valuable information about the artist's career and the songs.
In this LP record, this series bring us 12 important songs from mr. Smith's career (some were previously unreleased).
It's first song is "Mr. Moon", a beautiful country ballad followed by "(When You Feel Like You're in Love) Don't Just Stand There", an interesting hillbilly bop song, very famous by Carl Smith. "There She Goes" is another melancholic ballad, and worth the whole album.
Both sides end with gospel songs recorded in April 11, 1952, with Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters, in this case, the A side ends with "Softly and Tenderly".
The B side starts with another melancholic ballad, "No Second Chance", recorded in 1953.
Throughout this LP we can enjoy some great steel guitar work just like in "I Overlooked an Orchid", another very famous song by Carl Smith and, just like some other songs in this album, it was rerecorded and released on a 1963 LP "Carl Smith's Greatest Hits".
The record ends with "Amazing Grace", a classic gospel hymn, with the same backing band from "Softly and Tenderly".

Johnny Preston (1939 - 2011) teve alguns hits no final dos anos 50 e começo dos anos 60, como "Running Bear" (canção escrita por JP Richardson) que atingiu o 1º lugar nas paradas americanas e britânicas, rendendo ao artista seu primeiro disco de ouro.
Seu segundo hit foi "Cradle of Love", que no caso desse compacto, vem com "I'm Starting to Go Steady with the Blues" no lado B.
A canção que vem no lado A é talvez uma das melhores que Preston já gravou, detalhe para as linhas feitas pela guitarra barítono.
Originalmente esse compacto foi lançado pela Mercury Records em 1960 e posteriormente relançado pela ABC em 1973 para essa série Goldies 45 que ainda conta com outros compactos do artista.

Johnny Preston (1939 - 2011) had a few hits in the late 50s/early 60s, like "Running Bear" (written by JP Richardson) which reached #1 on US and UK charts. The sales of the records exceeded one million copies, earning Johnny Preston his first gold-disc.
His next hit was "Cradle of Love", in this 7'' comes with "I'm Starting to Go Steady with the Blues" in its flip side.
The A side is one of the best songs that Preston ever recorded, great baritone guitar work on this one.
Its original release was made by Mercury Records in 1960, and then in 1973, ABC Records rerelease for Goldies 45 series.

Antes de descrever o disco, uma rápida introdução a quem foi Leadbelly.
Huddie William Leadbetter foi um músico de blues e folk americano, relembrado por seu vocal e sua virtuosidade com o violão de doze cordas.
Leadbelly, como era conhecido, tocava diversos instrumentos além do violão, inclusive gravou canções sem acompanhamento instrumental.
Nesse disco temos uma vasta impressão do talento desse bluesman, e de cara percebe-se que ele teve muita influência e foi influenciado pela música country.
O disco conta com participações de Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston e Sonny Terry.
"There's a Man Going Around Taking Names" é a canção que abre o disco, e também uma das minhas favoritas.
"We Shall Be Free" é outra canção muito interessante, com ótimas frases de gaita.
Na última canção do lado A, "The Blood Done Sign My Name", podemos perceber de forma mais ampla a habilidade e ao mesmo tempo simplicidade de Leadbelly ao tocar o violão de doze cordas.
"On a Monday" é uma canção que deve ter servido de inspiração para uma outra canção bem conhecida, que é "I Got Stripes", já gravada por Johnny Cash.
Em "Corn Bread Rough", Leadbelly toca o acordeão com habilidade.
"National Defense Blues" é outra canção que merece destaque nesse disco, principalmente pelas frases de violão.

Before I start to describe this record, a brief introduction to Leadbelly.
Huddie William Ledbetter was an American folk and blues musician notable for his strong vocals and virtuosity on the twelve-string guitar. He could play a lot of instruments and even recorded some songs without instrumental accompaniment.
"There's a Man Going Around Taking Names" it's the first song of this album, one of my favorites too.
"We Shall Be Free" it's another interesting som with some great harmonica work.
In the last song of the A side, "The Blood Done Sign My Name", we can listen to some great and, at the same time, simple 12-strings guitar work by Leadbelly.
"On a Monday" it's a song that resembles "I Got Stripes", which was recorded by Johnny Cash.
Leadbelly plays the accordion on "Corn Bread Rough" and shows some great skills at the 12-strings guitar again on "National Defense Blues".
