Trattasi di un documentario BBC (quindi sì, in english) sulla recente dimostrazione dell’ultimo teorema di Fermat, il leggendario “ho una risoluzione geniale ma questo margine è troppo piccolo per contenerla” insomma. Chi non ne avesse sentito mai parlare, per inciso, vergogna.

Il documentario in questione è tutto meno che improntato sulla matematica, anzi: vengono appena accennate rappresentazioni visuali di alcuni elementi della dimostrazione. A prima vista potrebbe sembrare come un difetto, ma vi assicuro che non lo è: né io né probabilmente nessuno dei miei lettori ha le capacità per capire matematica del genere—sicuramente non se si fosse provato a condensare anni di lavoro masochistico in un filmatino. Il tema centrale del documentario, superato il “che cosa abbiamo fatto per dimostrare la congettura”, è piuttosto di tipo psicologico, ovvero il come è stato fatto, con interviste approfondite ai protagonisti.

Il video lo potete trovare tramite i malvagissimi torrent, e lo consiglio a chiunque senta quel misto di rispetto e di incredulità quando messo di fronte a qualcosa di “incomprensibile”. Insieme al video c’è anche un libro PDF di un 280 pagine intitolato ‘Fermat’s Last Theorem for Amateurs’, sul quale (forse) scriverò in futuro.

Consiglio a tutti la visione dei primi minuti di trasmissione: a parte qualche auto-celebrazione di troppo, impeccabili. Fortissime (e ottime) le influenze BBC World, dallo stile dei presentatori alla musica.

ReviewMe non è il primo tentativo di creare un servizio di inserimento contenuti (le pubblicità tradizionali aggiungono rumore, in un certo senso togliendo contenuti) nei blog, ma presenta alcune qualità che potrebbero portarlo alla posizione di ‘leader’ del branco—e forse unico sopravvissuto appena arriva l’ora di battere cassa.

La prima e più rilevante è la possibilità—che sfrutterò in questo momento—di dichiarare apertamente che il post è una recensione pagata. Esatto: riceverò (teoricamente) 15 dollari per questa recensione. La cifra è senza dubbio esigua, ma dipende dall’assoluta marginalità di questo blog (leggasi: pochi link in entrata). Blog più “influenti” (e qui ci sarebbe da aprire il solito discorso ranking su Technorati ≠ influenza, ma non lo farò) possono ricevere fino a 125 dollari per recensione.

Un altro must rispettato da ReviewMe è la possibilità di scrivere recensioni negative. Ovviamente a lungo andare rant senza né capo né coda portano all’esclusione dal programma, ma critiche costruttive sono ben accette.

ReviewMe ha delle potenzialità. La possibilità per advertiser di tuffarsi “di testa” nel contenuto con pubblicità di prodotti veri—software e negozi online in testa, ma anche, in futuro, prodotti quotidiani—quindi con la possibilità di distinguersi dalla marea di crap che domina la scena pubblicitaria online tradizionale (stesso principio su cui si basa The Deck, altro servizio che rispetto)—la vedo decisiva e promettente.

C’è però da dire che vedo anche dei problemi. ReviewMe è destinato a piccoli advertiser, e non a colossi come Apple o Dell: piccoli advertiser che sono anche interessati a prendersi il massimo per ogni dollaro speso. Visto che ReviewMe permette di scegliere esattamente su che siti compariranno le recensioni, cosa spinge a usare l’interfaccia del servizio per contattare e pagare il blogger (con conseguente raddoppio dei costi) piuttosto che contattarlo direttamente? Questa seconda soluzione permetterebbe anche di concordare con più precisione quanto recensito—e, sì, anche l’orientamento della recensione.

Non tutte le speranze sono perdute, però. Abbiamo escluso a priori advertiser con budget nell’ordine delle decine o centinaia di migliaia di dollari, e abbiamo visto come quelli con budget nell’ordine delle centinaia offrano poche possibilità di guadagno da parte di ReviewMe. Rimane la fascia intermedia: ad esempio, una neonata software house con qualche migliaio di dollari da spendere per farsi pubblicità, e che è ben contenta di pagare un intermediario piuttosto che contattare decine di blogger, verificare che i loro blog siano ben frequentati, pagarli individualmente con i metodi più svariati, e poi incazzarsi quando i post cominciano a sparire.

Il dubbio è quanto sia ampia questa fascia intermedia: da questo dipende il futuro o la morte di ReviewMe—e con essa di tutti i servizi simili.

Solo, una curiosità: in Italia è stato doppiato? Avendolo visto in inglese mi domando se nel Bel Paese si è fatta la solita (idiotica) scelta di portare i dialoghi in Italiano, con conseguente perdita di tutte le divertentissime storpiature della sintassi inglese, per non parlare di quando il giornalista kazaco si diletta con il neo-appreso nigga talk. Qualcuno ‘back home’ l’ha già visto?

Lo confesso: oltre a non ho degnare il mio blog di attenzioni, ho anche trascurato il vicinato. Il mio feedreader è rimasto in letargo per un tempo spaventosamente lungo.
