whipped cream and the annandale hotel

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Wed, 20 Jul 2011 10:57:00 +0000

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, just a quick little blog here to let you know that we are all in the best of health currently aside from a distinct lack of sleep and a fair smattering of muscle fatigue. Once again we ventured into the rehearsal studio to polish up on our skills for our upcoming show this Sunday, the 24th of July at the Annandale Hotel.

I feel it is safe to say that it shall be quite a satisfying show, we’ve whipped the new songs into shape and the set list is looking like it shall consist largely of said new songs with a few old favourites thrown into the mix just for the fun of it. So be sure to head on down and say hi, entry is only $5 and as stated in a prior blog, there are plenty of other amazing bands rocking the night alongside us (quite literally! There’s going to be two stages on the night!)

As always, I hope this finds you all in good health and we hope to see you all this weekend.

studio shoot with julia trotti

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Fri, 15 Jul 2011 13:13:00 +0000

So prior to our "out of the blue" break, we had a promo shoot with the awesome Julia Trotti

It was a day of many inappropriate shenanigans, but then again, with Matt and Dan in the same room you can't expect anything less.

ohh, and as mentioned in the blog prior we're testing the new tunes @ The Annandale Hotel on the 24th of July.

motor boating

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Mon, 11 Jul 2011 12:23:00 +0000

Good day and well met kind sirs and fair ladies. Pray tell, were thine objects of great affection sorely missed these past many moons? Hath thou not mused where must the merry trio of Midnight Horizon have fled in exile? Never fear dear hearts and gather forth, for thy sorrow shall surely be banished with news of three weary travellers breaking trail within the shroud of mystery, emerging from the sweet embrace of the forests of darkness!

That’s right! The gears are turning and the furnaces are being fiercely stoked! Midnight Horizon rises once more! I know there are many, many questions and you may have all been keenly missing those of us here at Horizon but never fear, we’re shaking free the cobwebs and tending house and slowly but surely relearning how much Matt can be a bastard!

As of late you will have noticed that all Midnight Horizon related web activity has ceased for a period of roughly four weeks and our manners would be quite horrible if we didn’t explain the recent prolonged absence. Prior to this abrupt and seemingly out of the blue disappearance all three of us had a bit of a meeting and decided that for each and everyone of our sanity’s (excluding Matt and Dan, they long ago lost the battle to hold on to their small segment of the real world) and for the sake of Midnight Horizon as a whole that we were in dire need of a break. The endless tramping to and from recording studios, rehearsal studios, grave yard shifts, keeping the online community afloat and our own lives held together was just simply taking a bit of a toll. Ahh, just kidding. The real reason for the break was Matt's operation!

In the past week or so we’ve slowly been crawling out from our respective rocks, begun actually answering mobiles and texts and emails instead of cowering under our beds sobbing quietly any time, in Matt’s case at least, The Scorpion Sleeps began blaring and we even ventured out into the real world for a session! Amongst this exciting news were proud to announce another little morsel.

On Sunday July 24th, Midnight Horizon shall be stomping the main stage of The Annandale Hotel! That’s right, we were pleasantly surprised to receive an email requesting the adding of Midnight Horizon to an absolutely kick ass line up and we jumped at the chance! Why...? You might ask. Well.... You’ve all been hearing about all these new songs that we’ve been writing and we have decided that the stage at the Annandale will be absolutely perfect to blow you all away with our new batch of tunes along with maybe a couple of old ones. It’s our first chance to road test these tracks live and Matt is gleefully insisting on informing you all that he has taken the liberty of renaming one of the songs and as such, it would be a pleasure for all of you to come Motorboating” with Midnight Horizon.

Immature bastard…….hope he gets an ulcer……...

Third person a bitch ain’t it?

Anyways on with the carnival! With all the fairy floss and ring toss and gut turning, overpriced, funny smelling food you can eat!

Soon we shall post some visual delights that we think will start to curb the MH withdrawal that you must all have been experiencing and as always, you can leave a comment on this blog, check out our Youtube channel and express your disgust at the shenanigans, hit up the Twitter feed for exclusive live updates and Formspring to ask us about all our dirty little secrets.

It feels damn fine to be back if I must say so……….Now, off to pick a fight with a Shetland pony!

typhoid mary

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Wed, 01 Jun 2011 10:13:00 +0000

Good day to you all ladies and gentler of men. I know that it has been quite some time since our last blog and I apologise in the delay of our musings and insane utterances. What a past few weeks it has been. Amidst the day to day drama that is jam packed into our lives coupled with our own commitments beyond Midnight Horizon and those in regard to the band itself we have all barely had a moment to ourselves these past couple of weeks. Throw in the combination of both myself and Dan having contracted some form of fell disease from our very own Typhoid Mary, Conor who himself remains sickeningly healthy, and our absence becomes understandable if not regrettable.

To recap the past few weeks in as few words as possible one word comes to the fore. INSANE. All three of us have begun to succumb to the routine of rehearsal and recording sessions and as such the days and weeks begin to blur together into one huge, unintelligible mess. As such the freak show rolls ever onwards, we once again delve into the realms of the studio amidst putting together new tracks, new MHTV episodes as well as a multitude of other tasks.

This past Sunday saw us once again rope our poor photographer Julia Trotti into performing a photo shoot and lots and lots of pretty pictures shall of course be forthcoming over the next few weeks along with another acoustic video clip, this time for the new track Radiowaves. Keep an eye on the blog and our Youtube channel along with Facebook page for more progress on this piece of cinematography.

Also, as some of you may already be aware, we have managed to defeat the gremlins inhabiting the interwebs for the time being and as such a new “Music” section has made it’s debut on our Facebook page. From said section you may peruse the viewing of videos and the aural delights of a few of our tracks (more yet to come, we hope you’re all as eager for them as we are!)

ohh, and some more "behind the scene" photos on twitter!

For now I retired from my musings to once more bring glory in the name of Khorne, skulls for the skull throne!

Yes, indeed I know of this ankle pants predicament you are currently engaged in and if this is not the case I for see some form of disrobement in your immediate future, after all, Doomsday is almost upon us! Indeed it is that time again when the masses seek some form of comfort from an ethereal being whom in most cases really couldn’t care less about the ant hill of humanity and when the incoherent screeches of preachers shall be head in the streets……….That’s right Doomsday!

I apologise unreservedly that my pre-Doomsday address has been withheld until such a late stage in the cycle of Armageddon but as the saying goes, a sparrow can most assuredly not tickle a centipede without contracting syphilis……..or something such as that…….is that even a saying?………..

Ah you finally have him on the line Nikoli! Good! About time you incompetent biped! Boris! Boris can you hear me!? What are you calling me off, a damn Motorolla Razor!? Good god man, our plan is in it’s most intricate phase and you deemed it necessary to use a Motorolla! Success at last! Good, yes, now you must place the Staff of Ramses horizontally across the………..WHAT!? No not horizontally across the Sacred Capstone of Time, across the Doomsday Device! Good help is so hard to find……..

Oh what? You lot are still here……..I would assumed you would all be busily cramming some last minute partying in prior to what must be your imminent destruction……….Well in that case, be sure to keep an eye on this space for even more Doomsday Watch news, all through tomorrow we shall be updating you as to the progress of the "Judgement Day" / "End of the World" / "Apocalypse" / "Armageddon" as it sweeps the globe……….

shut the front door!

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Thu, 19 May 2011 04:56:00 +0000

As Matt would put it "Good afternoon people of the blog" in his creepy creepy voice. Anyways, just a quick update for the week. We've been a bit "over-busy" this week and so we haven't been around much. The twitter started to get a little cold and the blog even colder. Though we're back, and have plenty of news and such. For instance MHTV launched last week, and below you can find the first three episodes. We're going to be adding three new episodes mid-week-each-week-til-matt-runs-out-of-stupid-things-to-say which is never! So check out the old, and the next three should be up later tonight/tomorrow.

We've finished "Shut the front door" (which we shall release a sneak preview soon, and maybe the real name of the song...) It's a little different compared to some of the tunes we've been releasing in the past, especially that STFD at the moment has numerous guitar solos, wicked dirty bass lines and some very "stick it to the man" lyrics. At least from what i remember, i could be wrong, we could have just been recording a cover of a Taylor Swift or Katy Perry tune, 'twas a very long night. This week Matt and I have also been busy recording some tracks for a side project we've been helping with, which maybe eventually you will run into, or maybe not.

Anyways, i hear that Matt might be posting some more readings here on the blog tonight so i'm going to leave it at that. Follow us on Twitter and subscribe to the MHTV YouTube channel, you know, for shits and giggles.

Against Me!

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Wed, 11 May 2011 08:45:00 +0000

Well hello and welcome ladies, gentlemen and aardvarks alike! My, my, my, what a weekend that was and we have such an exciting and busy week to come. I feel that to kick off this week I should probably enlighten you all as to the events that shall come to pass very shortly.

First of all, we are back into the studio not once but twice this week! That’s right, we’re braving the graveyard recording shifts once more to soldier ahead in the studio to add some bits and pieces to our two recordings prior to any mixing and the tracks themselves should be eventually available in the next month or so.

Secondly, we are still well and truly entrenched in the confines of the rehearsal studio and shall continue to be for the foreseeable future, we’ve churned out a couple of promising new tunes and hopefully there should be plenty more in the next few weeks so we hope you’re all eagerly awaiting our next gig when we shall surely showcase a few of them for you all along with all your old favourites.

Thirdly, as you may aware of from our Facebook posts we have launched our very own Formspring account! That’s right! You can ask us any question that you desire! ANY! In fact the more wild the question’s the more wild the answers so continue to throw us all your most insane inquiries and we shall of course endeavour to answer them in a timely fashion. We're also now constantly on Twitter! A lot of "behind the scenes" footage, so keep an eye out or three.

And now onto our final subject of this blog post. As any of you who were lurking on Facebook over the course of the weekend may be aware, all of us here at Midnight Horizon took a break from our own music and decided to head on into the Metro Theatre for a gig. This gig being the Against Me show that was previously cancelled and then rescheduled.

For those of you who were not able to make the show you should all be sorely disappointed as this was one of the best, if not THE best, show’s that we’ve all seen in a long, long time (our own awesome gigs not included). What an amazing night it was.

Prior to the head liner’s kicking their set off we were delighted to discover that the two supports for the night, Sydney based Grand Fatal and Off With Their Head’s, were incredible all by themselves. Grand Fatal made such an impression on both Matt and Dan that they now have matching T-shirts as well as Matt having accosted their guitarist Graeme within the halls of the Metro. In fact, Matt even asked the poor man if he could have his beard……..it was a very impressive beard……..

Off With Their head’s were also superb with their performance and Conor was delighted to get to see one of his favourite bands and both Matt and Dan, having minimal exposure to this band thus far, were also quite impressed with their performance, both agreeing that they should further investigate the talented trio.

Oh, did we mention that our photographer Julia Trotti also tagged along to the performance? Well I apologise that I neglected to mention this. Juls herself undoubtedly had a smashing time as she was well within her element behind the camera for all three bands and I must say, some of the shots from the night were brilliant, as per usual with Julia, her work is always great!

Anyway, on with the story! So after having gotten to throw money at the merch monkeys and thoroughly enjoying both support acts we were finally eagerly awaiting the headliner. Already breaking from the norm and declining to use the poncy, typical curtain to hide behind during the intermissions Dan and Matt got to have a good sticky beak at the stage set up. Something that intrigued both of them was the unusual amount of space between the cymbals on the kit. The conclusions ranged from the absurd observation “Well Dan, maybe the drummer’s a giant, maybe that’s why he has them so far apart” right through to “I suppose he might just enjoy standing up while he performs”. It was interesting to note how close to the mark this latter observation would turn out to be.

Eventually Tom Gabel and company emerged to kick off what has to be one of the most amazing and energetic performances both on and off stage that we have all ever experienced. The pace for the night was set right from the first song and didn’t drop off at all at any point during the night. The mosh never ceased to be still and tune after tune kept right on coming from the initial outset.

Some of the highlight’s of the night for myself personally included the tracks Rice and Bread, Miami, American’s Abroad as well as the disco reminiscent Stop. Having not previously head more than a couple of albums worth of music, mainly courtesy of the numerous and lengthy road trips that Dan and myself and occasionally Conor, I was at a loss at times as to what the hell the words were but the enthusiasm that overwhelmed me when I did know the lyrics to a track more than made up for it.

This gig has to have been one of my favourites which came as quite a shock because it has been quite a while since I really enjoyed myself at a gig and was able to focus solely on the music and the act on stage. A fair comparison would be Dead Letter Circus whom I saw maybe a month ago, again at the Metro Theatre. Whilst the music was technically brilliant and the stage presence commendable I just couldn’t let myself get sucked into just the music, the poor sound quality of the night always on the edge of my mind, making it hard to enjoy myself completely.

In closing, it’s a two days after the gig itself and I’m covered in bruises, am fairly certain that I have some torn muscles, pretty sure that I’m coming down with a cold and have lumps all over but I am so ecstatic that I got to see such amazing bands all with the space of an evening that I frankly think it was well and truly worth it.

Anyway my fluffy little bunnies, Matt is off to work for the evening so I hope you all enjoy yourselves and found this quite an enlightening read.

Fin….

P.S, Boris sends his regards, he’s off in Europe somewhere for a much deserved holiday so I hope you all wish him safe travels but never fear, I have found a temporary replacement for him in the mean time. Nikoli has quite firm hands………….

MHTV

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Tue, 03 May 2011 08:06:00 +0000

Well good evening people of the blog, I hope these musings find you all in good health and all looking forward to another exciting week. Prior to entertaining any illogical and insane notions I would first like to direct your attention to some exciting news, Midnight Hoirzon are now on formspring.me! That’s right, you can now all ask your most creative and vulgar questions via this medium and be assured to receive some equally vulgar questions. Thus far we have been enjoying the experience this provides so don’t be shy, drop by and throw us some curve balls and we’ll promptly throw some back.

Also as you may all be aware from prior announcements we shall have some more video footage posted up in the coming weeks so keep an eye out on both this blog and our Youtube channel ( MHTV ) and be sure to check out all our other footage there while you’re at it.

We shall also be heading back into the recording studio in the coming weeks to lay down some more tracks on the two songs that we’ve been working on and hopefully these should be shortly available for you all to participate in some aural delight.

Thus far that is all that is currently coming to mind on the news front, forgive me if my mind has wandered and I have unintentionally declined to divulge any further news, it’s been a huge week thus far and as such I am only now getting the chance to recover from it so please bear with me.

On a tangent totally (though completely) unrelated to Midnight Horizon I have recently begun to grow fairly bored with my current music play lists and as such deemed it time to source some more obscure music to sate my curiosity. As such I was gleefully delighted when I accidentally stumbled upon a sub genre that I had either previously noticed and forgotten about or completely happened upon by chance. This of course, as I’m sure Conor is sick of hearing about, is Steampunk. I am utterly and totally fascinated by this genre and my attention has largely been focused on Abney Park, generally acknowledged, from what I could hunt down, as the poster band for the genre. This amazing band along with the intriguing and genius Doctor Steel who I find I am completely drawn to based largely on his insane persona. I highly recommend that anyone who is looking for something out of the norm check out either of these artists as they are both as equally amazing as one another.

Anyway that is today’s little rant finished with for now so as always watch this space!

pussy cat

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Tue, 26 Apr 2011 06:31:00 +0000

Good day my beautiful, beautiful little gremlins and welcome to the pages which bear witness to the gradual diminishment of what little shreds of sanity I still reluctantly cling to. I hope this blog finds you all as eagerly awaiting the end of Easter as I for the simple fact that we may all breathe a little easier knowing that the slightest road infringement could incur the loss of our precious vechicular qualifications. Then again, I have quite enjoyed significantly fewer near brushes with death thanks to the almost comical care with which motorists have been driving, it’s quite fascinating watching people who would not usually think twice about cutting a motorcyclist off now actually peer around in something akin to fear. It’s been such a deliciously delightful experience.

But on with the show!

As some of you may have noticed we experienced a few ah, technical issues…….when Boris decided he would take it upon himself to shall we say, “enlighten” you all. Much apologises all around and hopefully you all took it as the joke it was, Boris is such a big pussy cat, he’d never actually toss you into a river……at least I don’t think he would…….

In any case I would like to thank you for bearing with the recent lack of updates and all of us here at Midnight Horizon shall be each spending some time reintergrating ourselves with the interwebs community. Be sure to keep an eye on this space as more pretty little pictures and even some videos shall shortly be making an appearance.

lotion

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Sun, 24 Apr 2011 02:49:00 +0000

Good day ladies and gentlemen, once again I have risen from what you must assume is the grave to deliver yet another action packed blog. As you may have all noticed we here at Midnight Horizon have almost literally disappeared from the face of the interworld as our activity on the web has been sporadic at best. Never fear though, our lack of presence has not been the result of a malady or some form of alien abduction, it has simply been that we have been busy, busy little bees as of late.

Most recently we have completed our second foray into the recording studio to once more lay down the foundations for our second song in as many weeks and this time I am pleased to announced with barely repressed glee that we shall be releasing a new song in the coming month or so as well as one of our venerable old favourites for your aural delight. We were delighted to once again venture into this task with our favourite engineers, Keegan and Adam, who along with our delightful selves wreaked havoc in the studio, not limited to developing a “walking” theme song for Dan, laying down Conor’s drum tracks and a experiment in regard to the recording process. This experiment is not nearly as sinister as you may all assume, we merely decided to approach the session from an older, more adventurous age of recording, harkening back to earlier and arcane techniques. The results were interesting to say the least and greatly insightful.

Amidst all this chaos we also decided to venture into the world of cinematography to a certain extent and in the coming days you shall all bear witness to the amazing world of the drive to and from the recording studio in the early hours of the morning. Such fascinating footage delves into the diet of a musician right through to lengthy arguments about eating utensils.

Further foot notes include our continued adventures in the rehearsal studio, continuing to develop even more tunes for you all to enjoy, moulding said aural delights like soft, moist clay, ripe for the pot makers dirty, dirty hands….wow, that got a tad sexual didn’t it? Are you all, you know…..getting a little warm around the collar if you catch my drift?

For now I bid you all good day. And remember, a 20 cent sized amount of lotion is enough, any more is just wasteful and we all know greed is a great sin……….but who cares! More lotion I say! More! Mwhahaha!

noreply@blogger.com (Midnight Horizon) — Fri, 22 Apr 2011 02:22:00 +0000

Good day and welcome once more to another exciting edition of the Midnight Horizon blog! For the past couple of weeks you may have noticed that we have been extremely quiet and insular in regard to our interwebs activity lately and we would like to apologise to all of you who have any form of OCD who follow the myriad of adventures of us here at Horizon with such dedication and diligence.

All has not been quiet I must assure you, we have been up to our necks in a number of departments, much of it shall remain steadfastly secret for a while yet and we would like to assure you all that we are confident that our plans are almost as delicious as Nanna’s apple pie.

However, for the mean time we have a bunch of new photographs and some short videos that we plan to unveil over the coming week that we hope shall sate your collective appetites for the immediate future. Knuckling down we have confined ourselves once more to both the recording and rehearsal studios, have numerous new and exciting songs in the pipeline and of course more recordings which we shall be working on in the coming weeks.

Good afternoon my wonderful little cherry pies! I’m deducing that you have all been wondering where in god’s good name have we disappeared to lately?! Well my little minions, if you really must insist on knowing………….haha, not telling! In all seriousness though all of us here at Midnight Horizon have been absolutely swamped lately and as such we haven’t had a chance to update the blog in the past week.

Never fear though my children, we shall be once again resuming our harassment of you all via the interweb with some regularity within the next few days and we shall of course be busy as always, we’re currently working on a bunch of new songs. For those of you who attended our gig at SFX on Saturday the 12th of March we hope that you enjoyed the new tracks that we did reveal that night and for those of you who weren’t there, well, your loss really.

For now I bid all ye farewell!

Good evening to you all people of the blog. I hope that this finds you all in good health and that all your weekends were as exciting as the one we here at Midnight Horizon just endured and surprisingly survived. As you would all be aware we recently played our first gig of 2011 at SFX this past Saturday and we would just like to extend our warm gratitude to all of you who managed to attend.

What an experience that was, we were lucky enough to be gracing the stage with the likes of Soapbox Summer and Uncorrected whom we extend our congratulations to on the launch of their debut EP and also the Divider’s who we can unashamedly say were absolutely amazing. A special thanks also goes out to the Divider’s for their help in hauling our gear up multiple sets of stairs, we look forward to playing with them again so keep an eye peeled as we could potentially be playing with them again in the not so distant future and it’s certainly an experience nobody would want to miss.

In further regard to our most recent gig, those who attended were able to get a sneak peak at some of the material that we have been doggedly working on and we, as always, hope it whet your appetites and that you are all as eagerly awaiting more tunes as we are eagerly waiting to unveil them. For the immediate future we shall be working on yet more songs, annoying you all with even more blogs, photos and video footage of the strange happenings that are bound to occur.

FIN.
