Huge MakeUp Empties!

Double Announcement - Life Changed Forever!

When you have something important to say, finding the right words is never easy. You may already have a sneaky suspicion on what the announcement is.... But... I'm Pregnant! ...With twins! The first part, wasn't too much of a surprise, but the twins part definitely was! But I'm definitely very excited for the future. Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little scared. Getting my head around having 2 babies is a little crazy! How they're going to fit into my 5ft tall, Size 6 body is also a little daunting! But I'm going to take you along for the ride!

Too Much MakeUp? - The Story of a MakeUp Addict

It's no secret that I, like many of you reading this am a massive make-up lover. Or should I see obsessie. Today I wanted to take some time to speak to you a bit more about my story with make-up, how I ended up with what I have and how I feel about my collection.

Lets start by saying, I don't have the smallest collection, in fact it's pretty huge. Here is what it was nearly 2 years ago, it's grown since then... Trust me when I say I'm not boasting about this, I actually think it's rather stupid that I've got to this point. Who needs 20 bottles of foundation (all in the same shades), 50 nude eyeshadow palettes and 40 odd red lipsticks. Nobody. Especially not me. That's not to say I don't enjoy the make-up I own and lovingly chose each purchase (yes even the impulse buys!).

I love pulling things out, rummaging and redescovering old favourites. But that's just the problem, I feel like I can't enjoy everything that I own properly. I have so many favourites and not enough faces. I always used to say that if something had a slightly different tone/texture/formula then I was completely justified in owning it. I still believe that this is true, especially when it comes creating more interesting and artistic looks. But lets face it, how often do I do that anymore. I used to do it all the time. Note to self, get the colours out and get playing with new looks.

When I first started blogging, way back in 2011 the blogging world was a completely different place. It was basically a field of reviews with some tutorials throw in. I got so caught up in this, posting daily reviews all the way up until about a year ago. This kind of culture encouraged hoarding and over-buying. I won't lie I did get engrossed in this, blogging was and still is a huge passion of mine, as is make-up. It just went hand in hand. These days blogging is a whole different kettle of fish, although that's a post for a different day!

What I have now is an amount of make-up that no one person could ever use up. But if someone was to ask if I used it all I can genuinely say that yes, I do use the majority of it. Although of course not all in one go or in the same day or even week. But it doesn't just sit gathering dust, never being used. However the question of whether I'll ever use it all up is a completely different one. The answer is of course no. But if it's being used and loved, is that a problem? Perhaps.

Something I have started doing lately is focusing on some of my older products and getting some love in them before they have to hit the make-up graveyard. I'm even actually finished a lot of products - I have a whole make-up empties video coming very soon. I've also started being a lot more generous with my friends. If they mention they need a new blush etc or they come over, I let them take a few bits with them to love and enjoy. My mum never buys make-up anymore, she comes 'shopping' at mine!

My make-up buying has also greatly reduced, I dread to think how much I have spent on make-up throughout the last few years. I'm not even going to attempt to make a guess. But it's a lot. Again not something I'm proud of, just a fact, I dread to thin of the holidays and memories I could have had with the money. However there's no point dwelling on the past, you can only change the future. I'm pleased to say that my make-up spending has greatly reduced this year. I don't feel like I have to buy everything new anymore and make sure it's up on my blog as soon as possible. These days I buy what I'm truly interested in buying either because the colour's too beautiful to leave behind or because the concept of it really intrigues me.

So to answer the original question, yes I do have too much make-up, But I'm not going to let it ruin my day, nor am I going to let it prevent me from buying the odd bit of new make-up if I want to. It's a work in progress, maybe one day I'll go cold turkey, but not today. However I am making a conscious effort to use and share what I already have. Call me shallow, but it's my passion and hobby, what makes me happy and my place of comfort. That will never change.

Review + Swatches: Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Crayon

It’s no secret that I love red lips, nor that I really don’t need anymore red lipsticks. But I just can’t help it, I’m like a magpie for them! I’m so glad I picked this one up though as it’s fast become a must have product for me. It’s not quite beat the Rimmel Provocalips off the top spot, but it’s so different they’re not even comparable!

As always I’ve included a summary at the end :)

The Basics

New from BarryM these new lip crayons describe themselves as having a velvet matte finish. At the moment there are only 5 shades available. The colours are pretty, but it'd be nice to see some deeper shades added to the line for Autumn. The shade I have is 5 - Make a Statement. They come in twist up tubes, so no sharpening. They are priced at £4.99 each and available from Boots & Superdrug.

The Formula

The formula of this is much like the standard chubby lip crayons. I know I say it about a lot of products, but these really do apply beautifully. No jumping or patchiness in sight. They’re not greasy or oily either, which I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear. They can be a little slippery though, so maybe not one for those that are concerned about fine lines around their mouths. I personally don’t find them to a problem in that department though, it does mean they are transferable though. These last for around 3 hours on the lips, but you’ll want to reapply after eating too!

Colour & Pigmentation

This is a stunning bright cherry red colour, complete with the very subtle pinky undertones. Don’t let that put you off though, it’s definitely a red shade! As for being matte though, I wouldn’t say that it’s a 100% matte, more of a satin finish. Or 'velvet matte' as they describe it! Although definitely no gloss, shimmer or glitter in sight you’ll be pleased to hear! The pigmentation is really good too, in the sense that you can make it what you want it to be. As you can see from the pictures you can either wear this lightly as a soft wash of colour or apply heavier for an intense look.

The Good – Can vary the colour intensity whilst keeping the colour even, not greasy, applies easily, a great red shade for summer, fruity scent.

The Not so Good – Can be a little slippery – those worried about fine lines around their mouths may not like these, not a huge variation in shades, lasts around 3 hours.

My Everyday MakeUp & How I get the Look!

Red lips might not be everyones 'Everyday Look', but for me red lips make me feel sophisticated, confident and pretty. It's not a look I'd wear to work (well not often!), more of a weekend look. The Melt Crowd: My First Candle Subscription Box!

Okay so not quite candles, but wax tarts all come under the same roof right? If you don't know what a wax tart is, it's basically a small (or not so small in some cases!), lump of scented wax that you burn in a burner with the aid of a handy tea light! So now we all know about wax tarts, lets all get up to speed with Flamingo Candles. Flamingo Candles sell luxury candles and wax tarts in a plethora of interesting scents. From Parma Violets to Mojito's the candles are hand poured in the UK with 100% natural soy wax. This is my first ever purchase from them, and as you can hopefully tell, I'm excited!

What is 'The Melt Crowd'?

In short it's a monthly Subscription Box for Wax Tarts. Each month you get a small box (which fits through your postbox!) with 8 not so small wax tarts in. The part that I find the most exciting is that they include exclusive scents and new collection previews. It costs £10 (inc. postage) per month, with your first month coming with a free wax burner to get you started. Mine had a crack in it so has leaked, but I've looked online and can't see other people complaining of this, I'm guessing I'm just unlucky! The July Box

Green Tomato Leaf (Exclusive) - I was a little dubious off this, tomato leaf?! But it smells really fresh and green, perhaps eve like tomato leaves (from memory). I like it very much!

Island Breeze (Exclusive) - This is one of those typical 'bathroom' or spa type scents. I'm not the best at describing scents but it reminds me on a beautiful Mediterranean beach!

Raspberry & Salted Caramel - Drool. I love Raspberry! This is part of the Spring/Summer 2015 scent and smells fruity (obviously), and not sickly sweet, it's a more mature fruity scent.

Cucumber & Melon - This is one of the Classic scents and the first to make it into my burner. I'm not sure it's that melony or cucumbery but it sure smells good. Another classic fresh scent with a slight floral side to it.

Mojito - It doesn't take an expert to know this comes from their Cocktail line! The overpowering scent of this is Lime (which I adore!) and this smells exactly like Lush's Avobath Ballistic (which I also love!)

Lemon Curd - Part of the High Tea line, this is a sweet lemon scent. And yes it really does smell like Lemon Curd - I used to love that stuff as a kid!

Oriental Lotus & Rose Otto - This is another of the Classic scents and one I can see a lot of people liking. Initially I wasn't that excited by this as I'm not a big rose or floral fan. But strangely I don't mind this too much as it's softer and not too overpowering.

Pink Lemonade - Another lemon scent - that's what I thought anyway. But this actually smells very different to Lemon Curd. Reading the website this apparently has strawberries and champagne fizz, very fancy!

All in all I am thoroughly impressed, my nose is happy and I'm looking forward to what next month with bring!

The Eyebrow Wardrobe: MakeUp Revolution Bulletproof Ultra Brow Palette

Eyebrows can make or break your make-up game. They frame the eyes and add shape to your face. I’m guilty myself in the past of doing absolutely nothing to my eyebrows, it’s actually embarrassing for me to look at old pictures now where I have no eyebrows and a huge forehead. These days I don’t go anywhere without my trusty eyebrow pencil, high maintenance I know! Which brings me onto the subject of todays post, the (not so) new MakeUp Revolution Ultra Brow Palette*.

The Basics

Already by looking at the pictures you’ll be able to see that there is an awful lot included in this palette. It’s all listed below for you as if I was to list it here there’d be no room to write anything else! There are 3 different colour variations to chose from – I have it in Medium to Dark*. Due to my hair being a lot darker these days I figured my brows ought to follow suite! It’s not the smallest palette, being the same size as the Salvation Palettes, but there is a lot to fit in there! What do I Think?

First off, just how much eyebrow stuff in one palette! That aside the shades in here are quite dark, but I can’t complain, it’s me that wanted to go a little darker with my brows, now I just need to get used to it! The brow powders and creams are slightly warm toned, it might be nicer for them to be slightly ashier. But I do have quite a ashier tone to my hair. The quality is nice though, everything is very pigmented and applies just as you’d want it to. My personl favourite is the pencil – purely because it’s quickest and I’m lazy! The tools are a little small, but they always are in these palettes, I only use them if I’m desperate. It would be nice to have some kind of spoolie in there as I always use one with my brows, but I’m probably being needy here!

What's New on the Highstreet #14 ft. MUA, NYC, Maybelline & more!

As I’m writing this I’m sat on my sofa on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, birds chirping and a whole lot of warmth in the air. By the time you’re reading this the weather could have turned into anything! As it stands I have now been internetless for exactly a month today, I’m not quite sure how I’m surviving! I hope that these products aren’t all old news by the time you get to reading this, but either way I’m excited and I hope you find something in the mix that excites you too!

Real Techniques Contour Set

If you follow me on Twitter you would have read about my incidence with my make-up brushes. I managed to drop them all down the toilet. And no amount of cleaning was going to get them back on my face. I bought some emergency essentials from Primark (they’re actually pretty good). But I decided to treat myself to some ‘proper’ brushes on payday. The set includes a fan brush, sculpting brush and setting brush. So far I’m loving the sculpting brush it’s amazing for cream bronzers and foundation too.

I have to admit this was somewhat of an impulse purchase, don’t lie, we’ve all been there! The set includes a cream based primer and 3 shades of eyeshadow. The eyeshadow formula is very different from anything I’ve tried in the past, they sit somewhere between a cream and powder formula! I’ve only used these on me eyes once and was very disappointed as they were very sheer. But they swatch really nicely so I’m going to try applying these with my fingers as opposed to a brush before I judge too much!

MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Liquid Glow – Oyster

Again, something else I didn’t plan on purchasing, but oh my, these things are beautiful! I’m actually rather impressed with myself that I only got one shade, they are all very pretty! I have many highlighters with pink and gold undertones so I went with the one that has a slight peach undertone to it as it’s more unique! You get a huge 20ml tube that can either be used alone for a subtle or buildable highlight or mix in with your foundation for a subtle glow.

BarryM Radiant Rod Highlighter
(£3.99, Boots)

Apologies that this isn’t in the main picture at the beginning, I may have forgotten that I’d bought it, the problems of a make-up addict. It was being used and in my make-up bag so it’s not all bad! I may actually like this more than I like the MUA one I just mentioned. It’s a chubby stick style one, applies and blends beautifully but doesn’t feel greasy or slippery at all. It kinda feels dry if that make any sense at all?! Everyone says we need smellovision but I think we need some texture coming out the screen as well! Unfortunately there is only one shade of this, but it is a very pretty cooler gold shade.

BarryM Matte Me Up Lip Crayon – 5

I saw a picture of this on the BarryM Instagram account before it was released and made a mental note of the release date. I then proceeded to hunt them down in my local Superdrug after work on that date. I’m not going to go into this too much as I have a review coming and we wouldn’t want to spoil it. But as you may have guessed I’ve been loving it and can’t put it down! It’s mainly the texture I’m in love with, go have a look at them!

Barry M Quick Dry Nail Paint – Supersonic
(£3.99, Boots)

When the Quick Dry Nail Paints first released I really wanted to try one, but didn’t like any of the colours. They were all pastel shades! I’m all about darks, brights or nudes. Basically anything but pastel shades! I think BarryM realised that not everyone likes pastels and added some bright shades to the line too. This is a gorgeous bright royal blue with a purple duochrome to it, very fun for summer. And yes, it does dry quickly you’ll be pleased to hear!

Maybelline Dr. Rescue Gel Effect Top Coat
(£2.99, Superdrug)

Buy this! Seriously just do it! This stuff makes my nail polish last forever and ever and ever. Like over a week with the minimalist of chipping. Normally my nails would be a hot mess at the week mark. With this you have to be looking for chips to see them after a week. And considering I’ve just moved house and have been doing all kinds of DIY and gardening, this is very impressive! The only slight downside to this is it does take a bit more effort to remove! My new favourite topcoat, hands down.

NYC BB Radiance Perfecting Powder
(Superdrug)

You know when the lighting is bad in your Superdrug and you think something matches you. You then get home, put it on your face and you look like you’ve been tangoed. That. I may try is as a bronzer or just pass onto a friend. I can’t really comment on how this wears as I didn’t continue to wear it. But it does apply amazingly, super silky and finely milled. Not the best at blending, but use lightly and you should be fine. Unfortunately this is the lightest shade.

NYC BB Crème Bronzed Radiance - Medium
(Superdrug)

Talking of things that are too dark… This is not one of them! I seem to be seeing a lot of products like this lately. I’m not quite sure whether they’re a bronzer or a BB Cream. They say they’re both, but then your face is just going to be darker than the rest of your body if you use it all over! I’ve been using this where I’d normally bronze, under my foundation. It can blend a little patchy if you’re not careful, I’d be intrigued as to how it compares to the new Maybelline ones!

So maybe not that new now you're getting to see this, post, but I hope you found it interesting all the same!

First Impressions: Smashbox Contour Stick Trio

It’s not often I indulge myself in the pricier make-up. But sometimes there’s that little something that catches my eye and I just can’t help myself! I could lie and say this was a very planned out purchase, that I’d read lots of reviews and a carefully considered the purchase. But that would be a lie. I saw it in Boots and was far too intrigued to leave it on the shelf!

The Basics

Inside the magic little box you get three crayons, one each for Contour, Bronze and Highlight. To give an idea of size they’re the same size and the average lip crayon (3.5g each). And you don’t even have to worry about finding a sharpener to match – it comes with one. You also get a guide to give you tips and ideas for how to use them. Although if you watch the video above you’ll see that I just went with my own thing! The set is priced at £35 and available from Boots.

What Did I Think?

I feel like it’s only appropriate to talk about the colour first as that’s what you’ll see first. For me the colour of the Contour & Bronze shades is really good. The Contour is more ashy and the Bronze more warm toned. I didn’t find that they were too dark for me, but they were easy to blend out and buildable if you want a bit more intensity. The highlight shade is too dark for me to use as a highlight shade. It’s more of a concealer shade on me! Which brings me around to one fault, there is only one colour version of this kit, which is obviously not going to suite everyone. The texture of these is really nice though, creamy not greasy and blend evenly. But if you want to see these in action you’ll have to watch the video!

I know I havn't acknowledge that I have completely disappeared for well over a month. In short I haven't had any internet. But I'm give you an update soon, promise.

My Spring Lip Picks ❤ All Drugstore!

Remember me? The ex-daily blogger! I'm been very busy in my own life lately and it's taken away from MidnightViolets. To summarise, I bought a house! Hence the lack of blogging and all the social media that goes with it. I've missed speaking to everyone one and writing on here though. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick - Peach Club

(£8.99, Boots)

Despite only owning 1 shade, this is one of my favourite matte lip formulas. It's not drying at all, feels smooth, wears off evenly and best off all is super comfortable to wear. The colour is also beautiful too, a bright matte peach shade. Perfect for the warmer months and finally a peach shade that I love! I can see this being the year of peach lips for me.

Collection Deluxe Lipstick - Talullah

(£3.99, Boots)

The Collection Deluxe Lipsticks seem to divide people quite a lot, you either love them or hate them. I'm on the love it team - obviously, I'm including it today! They're very creamy and emollient. The slight sheen makes them easy to wear and forgiving on drier lips. The shade of this is a lovely paler nude warm pink. It doesn't go with my eyeshadow in the pictures at all, you'll just have to trust me that it looks a lot better with a different eye look!

ELF Moisturizing Lipstick - Coral Cutie

(Discontinued in the UK)

If you have't heard the news already, I hate to be the one to tell you that the UK ELF site is shutting down. That was a sad day the day I found out. You know how much I love(d) ELF! The US Site is still going so I kept this in, sorry for everyone else. These lipsticks are nice and hydrating (as you'd expect!), a little sheerer and come in a huge range of beautiful colours. This one being are very orangey coral shade as you can see from the swatches!

MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Lips - Ritzy

(£3, MUA's Website)

Something new and exciting! Another matte lip cream, this time one of the new Whipped Velvet Lips from MUA. They have a very similar formula to the Bourjois ones - can you tell I don't like the matte lip creams that set down on your lips and cling on for dear life! The MUA ones are less intense in colour, but definitely cheaper too. This is your standard hot pink shade.

B. Vibrant Lip & Cheek Colour - Alecia*

(£7.99*, Superdrug)

To be honest I don't really use these on my cheeks, they're much better on the lips! Again I wouldn't say the formula is anything pretty unusual. It's pigmented, slightly glossy, but most excitingly everything from B. (available in Superdrug) is vegan. There's a good range of colours available, but this is a a red toned coral, perfect for transitioning between the reds of winter and the corals of summer.

Revlon Lacquer Balm - Provocateur

(£7.99, Boots)

There had to be some kind of red going on in here didn't there! I've opted for something a little brighter to include that has a very slight pink undertone to it. It's nice and glossy, not completely opaque and perfect for daytime wear. Now just bring on more of these sunny days!

But it's technically Spring now, so I decided to crack out my new I ❤ Obsession Palettes* from MakeUp Revolution and create my most colourful look in a long time - although nothing on last summer! We'll get to the rainbow stage for sure this year! On a side note, I didn't use a primer with these eyeshadows, but I'd definitely recommend that you do!

Get Ready with My HAUL ♥ MUA Cosmetics

Romantic Efflorescence Palette

(£4, MUA's Website)

In the past I've loved MUA's Palettes, they're usually very good value for the money. However I've yet to be wowed by this one, it just doesn't have the same feel to it. The shades aren't that pigmented and are so powdery that they fade when you blend them. You can see the fun I had trying to get them to look okay in the video above! The colours are just my thing though, taupes, bronzes and purples, oh my! It's just a shame the qualities been taken down a notch.

F9 Flat Top Buffer Brush

(£5, MUA's Website)

I've been after a proper contour brush for ages ever since the Nars (I think it was Nars!) one released. You know me though, I'm not willing to pay that much on a single item - if you are that's perfectly fine too! To put it simply this is a rectangular brush, great for getting into the hollows of my face. I did think that it was a bit wide for my small face at first, but it seems to work really well.

F11 Highlighting Brush

(£2.50, MUA's Website)

Generally I'm more of a fan brush kinda girl when it comes to highlighter. Recently though I've been feeling the urge to try some new brush shapes (Is anyone else super excited for the Real Techniques Contour Brush Kit!?). Put simply this Highlighting brush is a huge fluffy crease brush. Personally I think it deposits too much on the cheeks giving more than just a glow. I think I'm going to try it for setting powder under the eyes next and see how that goes!

Whipped Velvet Blush - ChiChi & Spry

(£3, MUA's Website)

In all honesty, these don't seem much different from the standard cream blushes, I was hoping they might have the slightly moussey/airy texture that other whipped blushes have. That doesn't mean I don't like them though, they're super creamy (probably need setting with powder, although I've not tested much yet!). They do seem to blend well though! Spry is a pinky nude shade, these kind of colours are great with dark and dramatic lips. ChiChi is a bright coral shade, which is going to be perfect for summer!

Pro Base Prime & Conceal - Lilac

(£2, MUA's Website)

I actually quite like MUA's concealers, their £1 one that looks like a lipstick is actually one of my favourites, the coverage is surprisingly good! So when I noticed that they'd added some colour correcting concealers, I had to try one. I didn't want to go for the standard green one, so chose the lilac shade - I didn't have a lilac one! This shade is good for illuminating and counteracting yellow tones in the skin. There are 4 shades available, this one alongside Yellow, Peach and Green, although all are available together in a mini palette too. The texture seems okay and blends well, although it does settle into creases a little (I used without a primer).

Sweet Sheen Lip Balm - Peach Dream & Cherry Bomb

There's not that much I can say about a lipbalm, especially when I haven't used them too much. Tinted lipbalms like this seem to be becoming very popular at the moment, but they're so practical I wonder why this never happened before! I picked up a couple of shades - Cherry Bomb which is very similar to the cherry coloured baby lips and I also picked up Peach Dream which is a slightly pastel peach shade. Both give a slight tint and have a vanilla scent to them.

Whipped Velvet Lips - Ritzy

(£3, MUA's Website)

Something else the MakeUp world has exploded with is matte lips, especially the creamy/liquid ones! I can barely keep up with all the different ones. I do actually (on first impressions) rather like these new ones from MUA though as they don't dry down and flake off in the centre of the lips like I find a lot do for me. The pigmentation is sheerer though - the price you have to pay. But the formula does make it better for those with dry lips. I bought this online so the shade came as a little bit of a surprise to me, it's very pink, I should have know it's not like they don't have swatches on the website...

First up we have the new palette, which features something I've never seen mixed with on any kind of make-up before - faux fur. I'll be 100% honest with you, I'm not quite sure this is my kinda thing,but I know it'll appeal to a lot of you! It is of course more about what is on the inside though, 16 beautiful shades in both matte and shimmery finishes. The colour selection will appeal to those that like something a bit more subtle, but there is definitely scope for something more dramatic with the deeper shades. I haven't swatched all of the shades as my hand isn't that big, but hopefully I've swatched enough for you to get an idea of the colours & pigmentation!

MakeUp Revolution have released 5 brand new bargain palettes called the I ♥ Obsession Palettes.The prices are perfect for everyones pocket, however they do feel as if they've been designed to catch the eyes of a younger audience. I seem to be growing an ever larger collection of nude/natural eyeshadow palettes and at first I dismissed this a little as being very much the same as a lot of things I already own. But once swatched it comes into a life of it's own, the pigmentation and texture is beautiful with both the mattes and shimmer. The shades are all gorgeous too, just my kinda thing! If you're looking for a dupe of the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, this may just be your thing, it's very similar!

On My Face! Passionate Purple Eyes for Valentines ♥

I'm told that I apologise too much, my response is usually 'Sorry'. So I'm sorry to say (oh dear!) that todays post is going to be starting off with yet another. I didn't get a video up this week, I've been having all kinds of camera/editing dramas and have ended up with two corrupted, unusable videos and hours of wasted time. I was actually quite happy with the footage I'd filmed for once as well! Review + Swatches: Rimmel Provocalips Kiss Proof Lip Colour - Kiss Me You Fool

If you want a red lip colour that lasts and lasts and then lasts some more, you've come to the right place. I don't think there's much than can get this stuff to budge! I have something to admit... I actually wore this from about 7pm right through to the next morning - and it still looked perfect! Don't judge (too much)! I had to get my oil cleanser and a flannel out to get it off in the end!

The Basics

This is one of those kinda inbetween products that goes by many names - liquid lipstick, lip lacquer, matte lip cream etc... It's not even a new idea, ELF have done something very similar for years now - although I think the Rimmel one is better. This one is double ended, one end having the colour product and the other end a clear gloss to put on the top - 2 finishes to chose from! Each end is dispersed with a doe-foot wand and has 4ml in the coloured end and 3ml of product in the clear end. In total there are 8 shades to choose from, available from Boots & Superdrug for £6.99.

The Formula

I've tried a lot of liquid lipsticks in my time, but this is by far the one that stands out to me the most. It easily lasts 5 to 6 hours, still looking flawless. Well actually it lasts longer really, but I'm finding it hard to believe! One thing I will say though is that if you eat anything oily (salad dressing/fried food etc) this will wear off in the middle. But nothing a quick touch-up can't fix! As it is so long lasting I find it can be a little drying. But it's more of a weekend colour for me, so I just hydrate overnight and we're all back to normal. The texture is a little tacky once set down, not sticky, tacky. I will say I don't wear the stage two with this much as I like the matte look. But surprisingly the glossy side doesn't make the red side wear off and transferable - although the gloss will wear off quicker!

Colour & Pigmentation

I'm pretty sure the swatches give it away, but just to clarify, these are super duper, opaque pigmented! from just one coat. You probably haven't also failed to notice the colour. It's a bold, bright red shade that leans pretty neutral. I'm usually all about the blue toned reds as they look the best on my pale skin, but actually I've been wearing this shade an awful lot lately! As for the finish, you can either have it glossy with Step 2 or wear the colour alone for a velvet finish.

The Good - Pigmented, long-lasting - will last all day, 2 finishes, good shade range.

The Not so Good - Is a little drying, will wear off with oily food.

Review + Swatches: MakeUp Revolution Awesome Double Flick Liquid Eyeliner

Everyone needs that perfect black eyeliner that lasts all day long and is as dark as dark can be. I've come across a few liners that I've become obsessed with over the years, falling for both gel liners and then pen style ones as well. As you may have noticed from my Instagram I've gotten into the more vintage/pin-up/rockabilly thing recently and this particular eyeliner has been my latest savior!

As always I've included a summary at the end :)

The Basics

Where do you really start with a felt tip liner? I guess the best place would be with the one thing that sets this apart from the rest is that it's double ended. Yep, you heard that right, you don't just get one felt tip, you get two! One end is thicker, with the other being very fine. This does come in just the one colour, black, which is the best shade to have if you're just going to have one! But it would be nice to see some fun colours appearing, especially as we're heading into the summer (I can dream!). This is available from MakeUp Revolution for £3.50*

What did I Think?

Lets start with just saying how intense and black this is. Super black! It applies beautifully too, I don't find that it drags too much and because there's two thicknesses it makes it so much easier to apply. You can get the basic shape with the thicker end and then define and create flicks with the thinner end - check out my last tutorial to see this in action, link. Or if you just want a thinner line then the thin side works great for this too. The formula isn't completely budgeproof I find it will smear a little when I get watery eyes (but I've only found 1 or 2 of many that don't!). Other than this I find it lasts really well - although if you're not going to wear eyeshadow with it I'd recommend putting some face powder on your lids to stop in transferring.

The Good - Pigmented, easy to use, 2in1, cheap, value.

The Not so Good - can transfer if used alone, only 1 shade.

My Favourite MakeUp of 2014!

So it's already nearly the end of January, how did this even happen?! It's a little later than I had planned but it's that time of year where I share with you all of the stand out make-up products from the last year, 2014. I've tried to give some varied choices that cover all the bases, from primers, to lipsticks, blushes and beyond. I don't often post favourites, so hopefully this can catch you up to speed on what I'm loving! Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer*

(£34.55*, Look Fantastic)

Without a doubt the most expensive primer I've owned, perhaps even the most expensive individual make-up item! It's not cheap! However it is pretty amazing. It is tinted and gives a shimmer to provide the perfect base to put foundation over - glowing skin anyone?! It also creates a beautiful eveness to the skins texture as it's silicone based. I'd love to be able to tell you something similar that's cheaper, but I just haven't found anything... yet! It's also a little sentimental as I wore this on my wedding day last summer.

Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation - Ivory

(£5.99, Boots)

Something else I wore on my wedding day - I promise you it's not all about my wedding make-up today! If you like something light this won't be for you as it is a little heavy. But the look it gives to the skin is unmatchable. It covers over any dicoloration in the skin without need for concealer and has magical abilities of blurring as well to make the skin texture more even. This is actually my second tube!

Autograph Smooth Matte Mousse Foundation - Ivory

(£9.50, Marks & Spencers)

This is similar to the Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation in many ways, it smooths and covers over the skin. This foundation feels lighter on the skin, but doesn't give as much coverage. The texture does feel as if it has some silicone in it, I don't even need to wear a primer with this. I don't agree with it being a mousse, it's more of a cream/liquid in texture, but either way, it works! Another bonus of this particular shade is that it's very light and not yellowy, making it a perfect choice for those like me that have a Porcelain skintone.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder

(£11.50, Boots)

After years of only owning bronzers that were too dark for me, 2014 was the year of the lighter bronzer, I found so many that just worked! If I had to pick one though, it'd be this gem from Soap & Glory. It has a slight glow to it, but is not shimmery at all so works well for both bronzing and contouring (I just mix both sides together). Having pale skin an ashy shade is always better than an orange tone when it comes to bronzer and this has just the right balance to make it look natural. Thumbs up to S&G for this - although I wish it had better packaging!

theBalm Instain Blush - Swiss Dot

(£18.50, FeelUnique)

Don't worry, it's not £18.50 for the tiny little blush I have here, this is just a sample size! Like some of the other favourites this is a lot to do with the colour as well as the formula. It's the perfect rosey coral shade, which looks beautiful with just about every lip colour - except the bright pink shades! The formula is also very good - it really does last all day. Although saying it stains is a bit of a push, I'd just say it was long wearing!

theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter

(£16, FeelUnique)

Considering I just have 3 things from theBalm, it's pretty impressive that I've put 2 of them into my favourites of 2014. I'm not good at maths, but even I know that's a good ratio! I was umming and ahhing over whether to buy this for so long, in the end I decided life was too short and that I'd give it a whirl. I'm so pleased I decided to buy this though as it's just simply beautiful. It's gold toned, buildable and too beautiful to describe. Honestly if you ever get a chance to see this in person, do it! For those after something cheaper, the new MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Iridescent Gold is pretty similar.

Benefit Box O' Blushes

(Palette is Limited Edition, all shades available individually)

This is the only Christmas set I bought last year, I hope you're proud of me! After my initial excitement of the purchase (shopping buzz!) I was actually a little disappointed thinking they were all sheer and not particularly unusual colours. I still stand to my initial thoughts on the colours being pretty standard and easily dupable. But the sheerness of the shades has grown on me. They're the perfect thing to apply quickly before work as they're almost impossible to over apply and blend like a dream. Having everything all in one place is also pretty useful!

GOSH Forever Eyeshadow - Silver Rose

(£5.99, Superdrug)

Again more of a one where I'm obsessed with the colour, but the formulas good too. The name describes this so well, so I'm gonna stick with Silver Rose and just say that it has a shimmery finish. Unlike some cream eyeshadows it does set down on the eyes and lasts all day. It's a great summer product, looking great with your standard bronzer blended through the crease and nude lips.

MakeUp Revolution Arch & Shape - Medium*

(£3.50*, MakeUp Revolution)

Sorry, not sorry that there's so much MakeUp Revolution! I started 2014 off with yellow hair (not blonde, yellow!), since then it's got gradually darker and darker until now where I have almost black hair. With the change in hair colour, I needed a change of eyebrow colour too. Que this guy! It's a great match and stays on my face - the colour is probably the most important thing when it comes to brows really though! I do wanna say that I don't really like the pen side though, it gets clogged up with foundation after about two uses!

MakeUp Revolution Salvation Palette - Give Them

Nightmares*

Time to get real here guys! I haven't actually done any specific posts for it, but if I was to pick my favourite brand of 2014, it would be MakeUp Revolution. They come out with so many new and exciting releases and never fail to wow me! This palette in particular encompasses a lot of my favourite eyeshdow colours blue, green and purple. They're all pigmented, have a variety of finishes and best of all you get 18 shades for just £6*!

MakeUp Revolution Salvation Palette - Colour Chaos*

(£6*, MakeUp Revolution)

Another Slavation Palette* from MakeUp Revolution. It's the same kind of deal, pigmented, 18 shades, variety of finishes etc etc. I'm not even going to apologise for essentially putting two different variations of the same thing in my favourites, because I just love them so darn much. Give Them Nightmares* is the smoky eyes palette with Colour Chaos* being the fun, bright palette. There's so may colour variations and options, you're only limited by your creativity with this one!

Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquer - Caramel Infused

I'm much more of a lipstick kinda girl these days, they're less sticky! I'l be 100% honest with you, I'm not completely sure why I like these so much - but the sweet vanilla scent has got something to do with it! I hate thick sticky lipglosses, these win with not being sticky, but they are a little thicker. For some reason I seem okay with the slightly thicker texture of the Color Elixers though? They are super duper glossy, working perfectly as lipstick toppers. I only have nude shades, which seem pigmented, but I'd love to try a red and see what I think of something a bit brighter!

Topshop Gloss Ink - Cruel

(Discontinued)

Boo, I didn't realise these were discontinued, they're such a genius invention! It's basically a pigmented gloss that leaves a stain behind too. Think of those glossy balm stains with amped up pigmentation and gloss. The stain is also pretty intense so once the gloss wears of you aren't left stranded with no colour. I just can't believe that these are discontinued, there used to be some gorgeous pinks and lilacs.

ELF Moisturising Lipstick - Wink Pink

Luckily something that is still available, but definitely a whole lot subtler. It's a soft creamy pink shade, matches pretty much most looks, great to chuck in the bag to apply on the go or even your new work shade. The formula is also really comfortable and hydrating, just as you'd hope/ It's not super glossy like some Moisturizing Lipsticks can be, and that I like!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick - Peach Club

Matte Lips Creams have grown in popularity massively this year, now most brands seem to have their versions of them. Most of them I'm not a fan of though as they're drying and flake off. This one however is comfortable, not drying and wears off evenly. Again I really want to try a red in this formula - I just want a red in everything haha!

MakeUp Revolution Lipstick - Serpent*

Guilty, it's MakeUp Revolution again! I just couldn't not put this beautiful emerald green lipstick in! They don't just do green, there's blue, yellow and all the more 'normal' colours too. Okay they're not perfect, but the shades are interesting, pigmented and slightly hydrating. They're also glossy in finish, very much like the £1 lipsticks from MUA really - just with better colours!

Tutorial: Classic PinUp MakeUp with a Smoky Edge

Sometime in life you come across things and do things that just feel right, like you should have been doing them all along. For me that's how I feel about my new found discovery of the Rockabilly look. It's very similar to the PinUp look but edgier and just more me! I can honestly say I have never been this happy with my hair - if you know me it has ALWAYS been pulled up and shoved into a top knot. But for the last few weeks it's been all about curls, red lipstick and winged liner. On My Face! A Look for the Weekend.

Despite it being the depths of Winter, I have come up with what can only be described as one of the most Autumnal looks ever! It's full of orange and green and actually quite different from my normal thing - I never wear orange on my eyes! It took me forever and a day to come up with this look all I could think about were references to autumn and leaves all very inappropriate for January, so sorry for the boring title!

Review + Swatches: ELF Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows

I have a small admission to make - I had been planning on getting this post up before new years eve. As you can tell this didn't happen, however I'm still going to tell you that these eyeshadows are party perfect, because well, they are! If you want something a little glitsy and special for your upcoming party/birthday/anniversairy then these are just what you're looking for. It's more than just an eyeshadow, but not as extreme as throwing a tonne of glitter on your face. Although I can be partial to that too!

The Basics

Formula wise this a mousse/cream hybrid, unlike any other eyeshadow I own. It comes in a small plastic jar, nothing fancy, but practical and great for travelling. Inside it has 3g of product, which for an eyeshadow (especially a budget one) is definitely on the larger side. There are 6 colour choices available, there used to be 7 though which is a shame. There is a good range in shades, although no emerald or navy shades! These are available from ELF's Website for £3.95.

The Formula

As I said a minute ago, these have a formula unlike anything that I've tried before. The best way that I can describe them is as a mousse/cream hybrid, they're definitely not powdery or loose! The texture still manages to be smooth and easy to apply. I find that they look their best when applied with your fingers or a flat concealer brush - applied with a fluffier brush they just don't go on as well! A lot of cream eyeshadows have a tendency to crease and make a mess, however applied on their own or with a primer underneath I find these still look good at the 8 hour point, starting to crease after this. So in conclusion they don't set down to be unbudgable, but they last very well all the same.

The Colours

Toast - It's a gorgeous dirty gold shade with no strong yellow undertones to it. Super shimmery and glittery as with all the shades! You can see it on my eyes in this (old) post - link.

Gala - Perhaps my favourite of the bunch, this is a rich espresso brown shade with coppery undertones to it. This has been my go to over the Christmas period. You can see it on my eyes in this video.

Festivity - Could we get a more appropriate name for this time of year? This follows suite with the glittery finish, but has a deep warm toned formula colour to it.

Soiree - I've left this one to last as it's no longer listed on the UK ELF site, it is however still available on the US site. It's a beautiful rose gold shade, heavier on the pink than the gold though!

The Good - Pigmented, glittery, perfect for parties, 3g product, cheap, lasts 8 hours.

The Not so Good - More shades please! not completely budgeproof.

MakeUp Not Worth the Hype (and what to try instead!)

It's so easy to get caught up in the hype of new (or old) products when everyone and their dog is singing its graces. But often all the hype results in a let down and the supposed magical qualities are little more than a dream. Today I'm sharing some of the products I've been disappointed in over the last year or so. I'll also be sharing with you the alternatives that I love - and don't often hear much about!

Highlighter

I'm quite fussy with my highlighters, I don't like them over the top, but subtle isn't my thing either. Basically I want to look lit from within (with perhaps a little enhancement). The highlighter that I don't think is worth the hype is Bourjois Chocolate Block Highlighting Powder, it's very hard in texture and just doesn't give enough colour pay off for me. It does however smell delicious! Instead I would recommend trying MUA's Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter in Iridescent Gold (£3). It has the golden sheen of the Bourjois one, but amps it up resulting in a beyond beautiful highlight - also a dupe for theBalms Mary Lou-Manizer.

Cream Eyeshadow

Cream Eyeshadows can be one of the most temperamental products in the make-up world. Often they can crease horribly, be sheer and greasy. In all honesty I have quite a few cream eyeshadows that would fit into this category, but I've chosen SEVENTEEN's Wild Metallic Eyes as they crease so quickly (both with and without powder eyeshadow over the top) and feel quite greasy. It's such a shame as the shades are beautiful (I've shown Wild Nude), although the blue one is super duper sheer! The obvious alternative would be Maybelline's Color Tattoos, but I'd rather tell you about something equally as amazing, but less talked about - ELF Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows (£3.95). I'll keep it short as I have a post scheduled talking just about them soon. They're metallic, shimmery, pigmented and stay put, couldn't ask for more!

Eye Primer

I'm sure some of you will disagree with me, but the eye primer that I don't think is worth the hype is the Urban Decay Primer Potion (£16), probably the worlds most hyped and talked about primer. I just find that eyeshadows don't blend very well over the top of it and that cheaper ones do that same job - if not better. I adore the ELF and MUA ones, both of which I've completely run out of! I also love the Essence I ♥ Stage Eyeshadow Base (£2.50), it is tinted slightly which at first I wasn't convinced by. But it does help to even out the colour of your eyelids, covering over redness and veins, I can't complain at that!

Lipgloss/ Lip Lacquer

This was a hard one for me, I knew exactly what I wanted to share as not worth the hype, but finding something similar that I though was good enough to share was more of an issue! You may have guessed it as I've said it before, but I don't think the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers (£6.49) are worth the hype, they're just too darn messy! I can't fault the colours and pigmentation though, I want to like them so much, I just can't! Instead I opt for a super pigmented lipgloss (although not as opaque as the Apocalips), the MUA Intense Kisses Lipglosses (£2) are just the thing, pigmented, not sticky and with a beautiful gloss to them. If you have a little more to spend then I'd highly recommend the OCC Lip Tars too!

Skin Primer

I love a good silicone based primer, they're perfect for covering over larger pores and giving the illusion of a more even skintone. However there's one that I just can't get on with, it makes my make-up slip and slide around like a goose on an ice rink no matter how little I use. Not a good look. The primer in question is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser (£7.99) - granted it does erase pores, but I don't really want my primer making my foundation last less time. One that I've found to work well though is the 2True Pro Prime Perfect (£5), it's not so slippery so does a much better job of making my foundation stay on along with the benefits of covering over pores - it's also a pretty good dupe for the Benefit Porefessional.

Cream Blush

Oh Cream Blush, how I love thee! Great for this time of year, when the chill in the air dries out your skin, or for anyone that suffers with drier skin normally. The one I dislike is actually not so much because it's an awful product, more to do with the price tag and how gimicky it is. The Benefit Fine One One* (£23.50*) is a three in one highlight, blush and contour designed to be applied all at once. The contour shade is orange though. I only really use this with all the colours mixed together into more of a sheer coral shade. It can be a little patchy also. I prefer the GOSH Giant Blush Sticks (£6.99) as a sheer cream blush as it's a lot easier to apply and use, whilst still lasting a good amount of time on the face.
