Zach showed finally! Looked a little worn from the long cross-country tour in the Orange Chicken Truck but hanging in there like a real trouper. And yes, he had swag for all the MLers who showed up at the Flatiron stop!

Great write up! One thing – the platters are now $7 at the Midtown carts. Since the beginning of this year I think. So a $2 bump at the SoCal location doesn’t seem so bad.

Boy howdy, that mac&cheese looks bland.

I’m surprised the chopped brisket beat the sliced, though: the chopped tends to be the ends of the briskets used for slices plus the bits that remain on the cutting board while they slice. Not that these are bad, but not as fatty and juicy as the proper slices. $18.50 is a legit nice price, though. Smoked chicken?

I guess for me, if I’m never going to order one of their burgers without the sauce and cheese it doesn’t matter a whole lot if it’s kind of bland that way. In-N-Out also isn’t too great when you order it plain, but I don’t like them less because of it.

Another trick I’ve heard is to tell them you want one kind of meat, and then just as they’re scooping it on there you correct yourself and say, “Oh no, sorry, I wanted the chicken instead.”

Apparently they’ll usually ask if you want them to just put the second scoop of meat on top of the first one, which gives you a double portion.

It’s funny… I used to hit Chipotle all the time when I lived in NYC. But I don’t think I’ve been to Chipotle once in the nearly ten years since I moved LA.

Still disagree with you. Did you do Apple Pan the same favor and just have it was sauce, meat and cheese? The last two experiences I had at Pie N’ Burger were subpar. Maybe it’s a consistency thing. In the end, they’re both great, I just prefer on over the other.

I only discovered the closure of L & L last night. I guess I didn’t eat there as often I thought. It’s true that L & L was declining in quality and never too great in terms of service or ambience, but I shall miss it anyway. Farewell L & L Hawaliian Barbecue on Fulton Street!
