Matthew Arbo serves as Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics at Midwestern. Arbo recently completed his dissertation on ethical debates over economic policy in eighteenth-century Europe at the University of Edinburgh. He holds a M.Th. in Christian Ethics from the University of Edinburgh and a M.A. and B.A. in Philosophy from Liberty University. At Midwestern Arbo teaches Christian Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy and Christian Political Thought. He has published articles in Political Theology and Evangelical Review of Society and Politics and written several reviews for the Journal for the Society of Christian Ethics, Expository Times, Scottish Bulletin of Evangelical Theology and Theological Book Review. In addition to these publications he has presented papers at the Evangelical Theological Society, Society for the Study of Christian Ethics, Templeton Foundation Workshops, and the Ethics and Social Theology Group of Tyndale House, Cambridge. His research interests range broadly, encompassing Christian ethics, political theology, Augustine, philosophy of religion, historical theology (especially early-modern) and the history of economic thought. Before arriving at Midwestern, Arbo served as a tutor and part-time lecturer in Christian Ethics at the University of Edinburgh. His wife, Ashli, is an attorney practicing civil law.

Robb Hand is the Student Ministry Pastor at Haven Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. He also serves on the Youth Evangelism Staff for the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists. He has a Bachelor’s from Fort Hays State University and is completing a Master of Divinity - Youth Ministry Concentration - from Midwestern. He has also ministered as camp pastor and retreat speaker. His passions are student ministry and missions. He says God has blessed him with the opportunity to serve students for over 15 years and to be a part of missions projects in the United States, Chile, Argentina, El Salvador, Japan and the Netherlands. He and his wife, Erlinda, will soon celebrate their 20th year of marriage and are thankful for their two greatest treasures: Brianna, 18, and Bobby, 16.

Omar Segovia has served as pastor of Central Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., since April 2008. CBC currently has English and Burundi/Tanzanian congregations. Along with the church’s faithful leadership, the Segovia’s have committed their futures to continue to love and win the Northeast Kansas City for the Lord Jesus Christ. Segovia was born in Santiago, Chile, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1979. Later, his family became Christians and were active in the Spanish Baptist churches there. He was active in the church youth and school campus Christian leaderships. He eventually graduated with a B.A. in Linguistics from York University in Toronto. He also served overseas as a journeyman with the IMB in the Arab world, where he met his wife, Janna, in Egypt. They married in 2002, and during their first four years, they lived in Canada where they had their first two children, Keziah and Elijah. At the end of 2006, the Segovias moved to Kansas City, Mo., and he began his M.Div at MBTS in 2007. He plans to graduate in May. He says the family has been greatly blessed by the Seminary community, and the additional births of Titus, Eliyana and Jaikan.

John Yeats serves as the executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention. His responsibilities include leadership, oversight and strategic planning for the MBC. He assists the convention, comprised of more than 1,900 cooperating churches, with making missional disciples, multiplying churches and developing effective 21st century leaders. Prior to his leadership in Missouri, Yeats served as director of Communications and Public Policy for the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He has also been editor of the Oklahoma Baptist Messenger, and director of Communications/editor of the Indiana Baptist for the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana. Prior to his ministry with state conventions, he served 20 years as pastor of churches in Texas and Kansas. Yeats received a B.A. from Dallas Baptist University and a M.Div. from Southwestern Seminary. He earned a D.Min. from Midwestern Seminary and a D.D. from the American Christian College and Seminary in Bethany, Okla. He is married to Sharon, and they have three sons and eight grandchildren.

Merle Mees joined the Pleasant Valley staff in 2007. He is the lead teaching pastor and oversees the church’s multi-site strategy. He is passionate about seeing lives changed by the Gospel and is committed to leading Pleasant Valley in unleashing the transforming influence of Jesus in the Northland and beyond. His personal mission is to live life in such a way as to cause others to applaud Jesus. Prior to coming to PV, Mees served in two other churches. He was director of ministries and teaching pastor at Westside Family Church in Lenexa, Kan., from 2004-2007, and the lead pastor of Western Hills Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., from 1990-2004. He and his wife, Karen, have been serving churches since they were newlyweds. They share the value of family and treasure their two grown sons, Nathan and Paul, and daughter-in-law, Kerry.

Bob Mills serves as the Executive Director of the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists. He began serving in this role in 2010. Before coming to his current post, Mills came to Kansas-Nebraska convention in 1998 from the North American Mission Board, where he had been director of the Mission Service Corps program since 1986 and coordinator for supervision training and leadership development. He joined the staff of the then-Home Mission Board in 1981. Mills was also pastor of First Baptist Church of Bethel in Kansas City, Kan., from 1978-81; director of church and community ministries for the Kansas City, Kansas, Baptist Association from 1976-79; and director of youth and family services for the association and coordinator of weekday ministries from 1974-76. He holds M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is an undergraduate degree from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. He has served as an adjunct professor at Midwestern and several other seminaries. Mills is also a past president of Midwestern Seminary’s alumni association and the State Missions Directors Fellowship.

Kevin Shrum has been in ministry 29 years, the last 15 at Inglewood Baptist. He is a graduate of Missouri Baptist College and obtained his master’s and doctorate degrees from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. In denominational service, Shrum has been president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention (2002), is currently a trustee for Union University and interim chairman of the trustees at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the co-author of a newly released book, The Fear Killer, and has written numerous opinion pieces and journal articles. He is also working on his second book. In his spare time, Shrum has been involved in coaching football. He is a preacher/theologian who happens to be a recovering athlete. He and his wife, Janet, have three children: Sarah, Caleb, and Isaac.

Micah Fries has been lead pastor at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Mo., since 2007. Previously, he served as pastor at Missouri Valley Baptist Church in Halls, Mo., for five years. He and his wife, Tracy have also been IMB missionaries to the Dagara people in Burkina Faso, West Africa. He grew up in an Air Force home, moving often, and living in places around the U.S. as well as overseas, which allowed him exposure to a number of cultures and peoples. Coming from a home with two parents who loved Christ, modeled Christ-like behavior, and particularly communicated a passion for missions, he learned at an early age to love and value Christ and His call to take the Gospel to all the peoples of the world. At 12 years old, Fries trusted Christ for his salvation. Just one year later, he surrendered to God’s call for service in vocational ministry. He began preaching at 16 years old. Fries studied Theology at the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Fla., where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. He also holds a M.Div. from Midwestern Seminary. The Fries are the parents of two daughters, Sarah Grace and Kessed Noel.

Robin Hadaway, associate professor of missions at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, was appointed acting president of the Seminary on Feb. 10, 2012. He has served in his role as professor of missions since October 2003. Previously, he and his wife, Kathy, served as missionaries with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for a total of 18 years. Hadaway served as a strategy coordinator, cluster leader and church planter in a closed country in North Africa and earlier as a church planter in Tanzania. More recently, Hadaway was the IMB Regional Leader for Eastern South America, supervising over 300 missionaries in Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. He has also been a senior pastor for churches in California and Arizona and attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Alaska and Nevada. Hadaway received a M.Div. from Southwestern Seminary, a D.Min. from Golden Gate Seminary and a Doctor of Theology from the University of South Africa. He also attended Dallas Theological Seminary and Fuller Theological Seminary. His undergraduate degree is from Memphis State University. Hadaway is a native of Tallahassee, Fla., and together with Kathy, they have three grown children.

Ed Litton has been the senior pastor of First Baptist North Mobile since July 1994. Prior to coming to North Mobile, he served as a home missionary appointed to work in the evangelism office of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention. From there, he and his wife, Tammy, moved to Tucson and founded the Mountain View Baptist Church. Almost seven years after that work had been established, God led his family to North Mobile as senior pastor. Litton holds a B.A. in Religion & Theatre from Grand Canyon University, a M.Div. from Southwestern Seminary, and a D.Min. from Southern Seminary. The Littons have 3 children: Josh, Tyler, and Kayla. Ed was married to Tammy for 25 years when she was killed in an automobile accident Aug. 16, 2007. After a period of God’s grace and healing, Litton married Kathy Ferguson, widow of Pastor Rick Ferguson, who was also killed in an automobile accident.

Rodney Hammer came to the Blue River-Kansas City Baptist Association in October of 2008. He serves as the Executive Director of Missions. Prior to that time he served for 18 years with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention -- 10 years in China and the orient, and eight years as the regional leader for Central and Eastern Europe. Hammer received a M.Div. in 1989 and a D.Min. in 1996, both from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been married to Debbie for 25 years, and they have a 16-year old son, Luke.

Steve Dighton has been the senior pastor at Lenexa Baptist Church since 1990. Prior to Lenexa, he served as senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Okla. Before being call to the ministry, he enjoyed a career in the men's clothing business. While serving as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at his home church, First Baptist of Ada, Okla., he felt God's call to full time service. The Dighton family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, so he could follow God's leading and attend seminary. Since that time, God has confirmed that calling in many ways. Dighton received his education at Dallas Baptist University and holds two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His wife, Mary Dighton, D.D.S., is in private practice in Lenexa. The Dightons have two sons, Chase and Derek. They also have three grandchildren, Cooper, Allison and Johnathan.

Wade Akins has served the Lord as a Missionary for 40 years, being appointed by both NAMB and the IMB. He retired from the IMB in 2007 after 26 years and is currently with “Pioneer Missions,” which is headquartered in Jackson, Tenn. The major focus of his current ministry is East Africa and India. Akins ministered in Brazil for 17 years, where the Lord led him to develop a Church Planting Strategy called “Pioneer Evangelism.” The IMB decided to use this strategy on a Global level, and he now trains all SBC missionaries in Pioneer Evangelism before they go overseas. He and his wife have been doing the Pioneer Evangelism Training on a worldwide level since 2000, and have trained over 100,000 pastors and leaders in 64 nations throughout the world. In other SBC work, Akins has served as an evangelist and as a director of missions. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College, earned his master’s degree at New Orleans Seminary and received a D.Min. in Missions from Southwestern Seminary. Akins is married to Barbara, and they have three children and six grandchildren.

Jerry Sutton serves as Midwestern Seminary’s dean and vice president of Academic Development. Previously, he was the senior pastor of Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn., for 22 years and has taught courses at multiple SBC seminaries. Since his retirement from Two Rivers, he has served in the classroom as associate professor of Christian proclamation and pastoral theology at Liberty Seminary. A Southwestern Seminary graduate, Sutton earned his Ph.D. in church history with minors in preaching and Greek New Testament. In other denominational service, Sutton served as first-vice president of the SBC in 2005, has been a trustee at LifeWay Christian Resources, and presided over the SBC Pastors’ Conference. Sutton has authored the authoritative account of the conservative resurgence, The Baptist Reformation. He has published a resource for individuals seeking spiritual rededication entitled The Way Back Home, and his work, A Matter of Conviction: A History of Southern Baptist Engagement with the Culture, stands as both a historic description and centennial commemoration of the denomination’s interaction with American culture. His latest book is entitled, A Primer on Biblical Preaching. He and his wife, Fern, have two adult daughters.

Andrzej Seweryn serves as Rector of the Warsaw Baptist Theological Seminary. Previously, he pastored in local Baptist churches in the cities of Bialystok and Ketrzyn and was president of the Baptist Union of Poland from 1999-2007. Seweryn holds a Doctor of Theology from the Christian Academy of Theology in Warsaw, and earned master’s degrees from the University of Warsaw and the Baptist Theological Seminary of Poland. Besides writing numerous articles and reviews, he has authored the books: On the Way of Dialogue, The Ecumenical Involvement of the Baptist Union of Poland as a Member of the Polish Ecumenical Council over the Years 1945-1989 (2006), Lexicon of the Baptists in Poland after 1945 Year (2007), The History of the Baptist Church in Ketrzyn over the Years 1898-2008 (2008), The History of the Baptist Church in Chelm over the Years 1910-2010 (2010), Love, Truth and Peace, and The history of the First Baptist Church in Warsaw over the Years 1871-2011 (2011). He and his wife, Ewa, have three children: Adam, Kamil, and Monika, who is a master’s student at Midwestern. They also have three granddaughters.

Richard Blackaby has served as the president of Blackaby Ministries International since July 2006. In his role, he speaks internationally on the Christian life, spiritual leadership and revival. Previously, he served as senior pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and then as president of the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary in Cochrane, Alberta, for 13 years. Blackaby earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Saskatchewan as well as a M. Div. and a Ph.D. in Church History from Southwestern Seminary. He was also awarded a Doctor of Divinity by Dallas Baptist University. He has co-authored several books with his father, Henry, including: Experiencing God: Revised Edition, Fresh Encounter: Revised Edition, When God Speaks, and Experiencing God Day by Day. Blackaby was also the managing editor and contributing author of The Blackaby Study Bible. Additionally, he authored Putting a Face on Grace: Living a Life Worth Passing On, Cross Seekers: Discipleship Covenant for a New Generation and Unlimiting God: Increasing Your Capacity to Experience the Divine. He has been married to Lisa since 1983, and they have three children: Mike, Daniel, and Carrie.

Mike Hawkins serves as the Interim Registrar at Midwestern Seminary. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the title of his ministry project was “A Plan of Spiritual Growth.” He also received his Master of Divinity from MBTS and a Bachelor of Arts from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Hawkins has served as a pastor in Missouri for over 25 years. During that time, he also served as an adjunct professor for MBTS and for Southwest Baptist University. In addition, Hawkins has served two terms on the Executive Board of the Missouri Baptist Convention. His first book, Detour, was published in 2009. Hawkins and his wife, Elisa, have three children – Cody, who passed away at the age of 13, and two grown daughters, Kelsey and Kristen.

Ted Davis serves Midwestern as the director of the Master of Arts in Theological Studies program and as assistant professor of Christian education. He and his wife, Kathie, served in Kenya with the International Mission Board for 23 years before coming to MBTS. He graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2000. He also earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1984 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Theology degree from Hannibal LaGrange Baptist College in 1980. He gave his life to Christ as a young teen. Davis and his wife have been married for 30 years. They have two children, Joshua and Kristina. Joshua is a student at Maplewood Community College in Kansas City. Kristina is a sophomore at Oak Park High School.

Steve Gaines is known as a man of prayer and a preacher of God’s Word. Since 1983, he has pastored churches in Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama before coming to Bellevue Baptist Church in 2005 as Senior Pastor. He received a bachelor’s degree from Union University and a Master of Divinity and Ph.D. from Southwestern Seminary. Gaines has served on denominational boards and committees, most notably the Baptist Faith and Message Study Committee. He was president of the Southern Baptist Pastors’ Conference in 2005 and has been the keynote speaker at many denominational events. His two books—Morning Manna and When God Comes to Church—reveal the heart of a man who walks with God and longs for genuine spiritual awakening “when the glory of God once again fills the house of God.” His passion for evangelism has galvanized his congregation to reach their city with the Gospel in unprecedented ways by meeting practical needs throughout Memphis. Gaines’ bold, straightforward preaching is often punctuated with singing in spontaneous joyful praise to the Lord. He enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his family, and leading trips to the Holy Land. Gaines and his wife, Donna, have four children: Grant, Lindsay, Allison, and Bethany. They also have three grandchildren.

Dr. Phil Roberts was the fourth president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, celebrating 10 years of service to the Seminary in February 2011. He previously served as vice president with the North American Mission Board. Among other publications, Roberts’ doctoral dissertation was published as, “Continuity and Change,” and he has co-authored two books, Mormonism Unmasked and The Counterfeit Gospel of Mormonism. He has also contributed to a number of Christian and evangelical journals and publications, and assisted in the production of two videos, “The Cross and the Crescent” (2001) and “The Mormon Puzzle” (1997). Roberts received his Ph.D. from Free University of Amsterdam, did post-graduate research at Oxford University, and earned a M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Anja, have two grown children, Mark and Naomi. Mark is currently a student at Midwestern.

John Morgan was called to pastor Sagemont Baptist Chapel, a mission of the First Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas, on June 1, 1966. Over 45 years later, Morgan and the nearly 18,000-member Sagemont Church still share a passion for winning people to Christ locally and around the world. At Sagemont, Morgan has seen much change and growth since the church began. Throughout, he has always stood firmly in his commitment to preach the message of the cross and salvation to all. His goal as pastor has been to lead an effective church rather than a successful church. The hallmark moment in his ministry came in 1975 when he realized through his study of Scripture that the church, according to God’s Word, should owe no one anything. That principle changed the way Sagemont did ministry, and Morgan has taught the “Financial Freedom Seminar” to over 1,000,000 people nationwide. Morgan grew up in Pasadena, Texas, and studied at Baylor University (B.A. 1963) and at Southwestern Seminary (B.D. 1966). Post-graduate degrees include a Lit.D. from the California School of Theology (1982) and a Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Southwest Baptist University (1986). Robert Matz teaches Christian Doctrine and Preaching in the College at Midwestern Seminary. He received a Master of Divinity with a concentration in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Theology and Apologetics with a cognate in Practical Theology at Liberty University. Matz has pastored churches in Texas and Virginia as well as served on two church staffs in Tennessee. He has contributed sermons to Nelson’s Annual Preacher’s Source Book 2012 edition. He is married to Jessica, who serves as an adjunct professor for Liberty University’s Counseling Program. They have two children, Andrew and Katie Beth.

Gregory Ealey has been pastor of Paseo Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., for two years. He is honored to serve as the ninth pastor there. Above all, he desires to be known as a servant of God who lives to bring Him glory. He is also a native of Austin, Texas. In previous ministry work, Ealey served as an account analyst with The Urban Alternative, a ministry of Dr. Tony Evans. He was also a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, where Leroy R. Armstrong, Jr. served as senior pastor. Ealey was the pastor of administration at St. John, overseeing the financial and facility aspects of the ministry for almost four years. He later assisted Pastor Armstrong with a new church, The House of Hope, in Cedar Hill, Texas. Ealey was also trained in teaching the “Walk Thru the Old Testament” and the “Walk Thru the New Testament” seminars. He served as an area team leader chaplain for Marketplace Chaplains, USA, which provides chaplain service for corporate America. Ealey attended Texas State University, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus in accounting. He also earned a Master of Theology degree with a focus on pastoral leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Selena, have been married for nine years, and they have two children, Elias and Emmanuel.

Lou Fortier came to know Christ personally more than three decades ago, and says his life has never been the same. He is motivated by a love for God and compassion for people. The idea that, “Nothing is impossible with God” is a driving factor for helping people really find Jesus and grow strong in faith. Teaching the Bible with clarity, enthusiasm, and creativity is his passion. In his natural habitat you might find him playing with his family, exploring the great outdoors, skiing, checking out a movie, cooking, reading, working out, connecting with missionaries all over the world, cultivating one of Johnson County’s smallest gardens, teaching Greek/biblical studies, or even soaking up the sun on the beach! He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Religion and New Testament Greek from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Southwestern Seminary. His dissertation title is “Congregational Worship Renewal in the Light of Spiritual Gifts.” Fortier and his wife Michele married in 1985, and they have three children: Brennan, Karis, and Jonathan.

Mark Penick began serving Lenexa Baptist Church as Associate Senior Pastor in June of 2011. His role is to expand the reach of LBC and prepare the church for the future. Penick earned dual degrees in Religion and Business Administration at East Texas Baptist University, and a M.Div. at Southwestern Seminary. Dallas Baptist University is where he is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Leadership Studies. Prior to Lenexa, he served on the ministerial team of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, for six years after completing a year-long mentorship with Pastor Johnny Hunt of First Baptist Church in Woodstock, Ga. Additionally, the first church Mark served after college was FBC Longview, Texas. It is where he was ordained into ministry and married his college sweetheart. Scott Carroll is the the director of the Green Collection and research professor of Manuscript Studies and the Biblical Tradition at Baylor Univeristy. He has a Ph.D. in Ancient Studies from Miami University of Ohio and specializes in the study of ancient and medieval manuscripts. Carroll has edited and published numerous undocumented ancient and medieval texts primarily written in Greek, Coptic, Syriac, Latin, Hebrew and Aramaic. While primarily interested in ancient and medieval manuscripts, Carroll also has a passionate interest in the integration of technology in teaching and research. He developed an Internet-based educational program that connected students from 35 countries with his excavation in the Sahara. The program is a permanent exhibit in the Smithsonian Museum illustrating the creative use of technology in education. Additionally, he oversees the development of the Green Collection, which is an enormous and significant private collection of ancient biblical antiquities, cuneiform, papyri, Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient and medieval biblical and related manuscripts, Judaica and Jewish Scrolls, Incunabula and Post-Incunabula and rare printed Bibles, books and historical items. The collection is destined to be the core of a major international non-sectarian museum and research center to which Baylor University will be intimately connected. Carroll’s other projects include the research and publication of Codex Climaci Rescriptus, which contains two ascetic treatises by John Climacus, in Syriac written on portions of six recycled codices including the earliest and most extensive collection of scripture in Jesus’ vernacular, Palestinian Aramaic and scriptures in Greek dating to the late 4 CE. Another project is investigating the earliest, near-complete copy of the Psalms in Middle English, by Richard Rolle with other material. He is married to his high school girlfriend of over 3 decades, Denise. They have 4 grown children and a standard poodle named Samson that Dr. Carroll believes can respond to commands in several ancient languages. Carroll travels extensively around the world building the Green Collection, conducting research, overseeing exhibitions and lecturing. John Morrison has served as professor of theology and philosophy at Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va., since 1983. In his position, he is responsible for the instruction of doctrinal areas to the entire Seminary and university population, as well as teaching biblical and systematic Theology to pastoral and Theology majors at both the graduate/seminary and upper-undergraduate levels. He has over 22 years in professional education, three of these in public education and the balance in Biblical and Theological education. Also during this time, he served as an associate pastor for four years. Morrison holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Montana, a M.Div. in Pastoral Studies and a Th.M. in Biblical and Systematic Theology from Western Seminary in Portland, Ore., and a Master of Arts as well as a Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology and Philosophy of Religion from the University of Virginia. Jerry Sutton, accomplished Southern Baptist Convention pastor and administrator, joined the executive staff at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as interim dean and vice president of academics in February. The “interim” in Sutton’s title means that he’s MBTS President Phil Roberts’ selection until the trustee meeting in April, at which point the trustees will be asked to ratify the decision. Sutton brings to Midwestern extensive experience from a variety of ministerial spheres. A Southwestern Seminary graduate, Sutton earned his Ph.D. in church history with minors in preaching and Greek New Testament. He served as the senior pastor of Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn., from 1986 until 2008 and has taught courses at multiple SBC seminaries, including an adjunct professorship at Midwestern. In 2005, Sutton became the first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Since his retirement from Two Rivers, he has served in the classroom as associate professor of Christian proclamation and pastoral theology at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School in Lynchburg, Va. He has also served as a trustee at LifeWay Christian Resources and as president of the SBC Pastors’ Conference. A respected historian, Sutton authored the authoritative account of the conservative resurgence, The Baptist Reformation. He has published a resource for individuals seeking spiritual rededication entitled The Way Back Home, and his work, A Matter of Conviction: A History of Southern Baptist Engagement with the Culture, stands as both a historical description and centennial commemoration of the denomination’s interaction with American culture. Steve Dighton has been the Senior Pastor at Lenexa Baptist Church since 1990. Prior to coming to Lenexa, he was the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Oklahoma. Pastor Steve received his education at Dallas Baptist University and holds two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Steve's wife, Mary Dighton, DDS, is in private practice in Lenexa. The Dightons have two sons, Chase, who is a dentist in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Derek, who lives in Shawnee, Kansas. They also have three grandchildren, Cooper, Allison and Johnathan. Having been raised in a Christian home, it is not surprising that Pastor Steve gave his heart to Jesus when he was nine at a church camp in Southern Oklahoma. When he was 25 years old, he rededicated his life to Christ, and that decision was a pivotal point in his walk with the Lord. Before his call to the ministry, Pastor Steve enjoyed a career in the men's clothing business. But, while serving as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher at his home church, First Baptist of Ada, Oklahoma, he began to feel God's call to full time service. The Dighton family then moved to Fort Worth, Texas, so that Steve could follow God's leading and attend seminary. Since that time, God has confirmed that calling in many ways.

Greg Matthei was born in 1958 and grew up in a racially divided, segregated South Africa. He came to faith in Jesus Christ at age 19 and says his life was radically transformed. Matthei was called to ministry almost immediately after surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He studied at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Athlone, Cape Town. Now several years later, Matthei serves as one of the Directors of the Seminary. Additionally, he and his wife have been in fulltime ministry for the past 27 years, having pastored at Beacon Valley Baptist Church, Westend Baptist Church and currently at Athlone Baptist Church. The pastor says he strongly believes “that the Gospel we are privileged to proclaim must be demonstrated in practical ways in the communities where we live and where the local church is strategically placed by the head of the Church, Jesus Christ.” Matthei is married to Ursula. They have two children, Yolanda and John, and two granddaughters, Candice and Larna.

Jerry A. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies at Criswell in 1986; a Master of Arts from Denver Seminary in 1997, where he majored in historical and theological studies; and a Doctor of Philosophy from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2003, where he majored in Christian ethics and minored in systematic theology and philosophy. Associated with Southern Seminary in various roles for 14 years, Johnson was dean of Boyce College, served on the seminary's executive cabinet, was assistant director of development and was a trustee from 1989-98, serving as board chairman two of those years. Johnson served as vice president for academic development, dean of the faculty and professor of ethics and theology at MBTS from January 2009 to December 2010. Of particular import is his track record when he served as president of Criswell College, from 2004 to 2008. Johnson reassumed this presidency in December of 2010, after his time at Midwestern. Johnson has traveled on a dozen international mission trips, written and delivered numerous theological position papers, and has published various articles, editorials and studies of interest to Southern Baptists. His pastoral and ministry experience include a pastorate at Ireland Baptist Church, an internship at FBC Dallas and service as a youth pastor at Central Baptist Church in Aurora, Colo., where he later became pastor. He also served as pastor at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Littleton, Colo., and has held interim pastorates in Indiana, Kentucky and Texas.

He first began preaching at the age of 16. After several years of youth meetings and frequent preaching opportunities, Hoover entered full-time ministry in 1977. He earned his Bachelor of Science in pastoral studies from Arlington Baptist College, graduating in 1978. Gus Suarez teaches church planting and church growth at Midwestern Seminary and serves as the director of the Center for North American Missions and Church Planting and as a professor of church planting. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Golden Gate Seminary and earned a M.Div. from Mid-America Seminary and a Bachelor of Science in physical education from the University of Maryland. Prior to accepting his position at Midwestern, Suarez was the executive director and treasurer for the Northwest Baptist Convention. He served in state conventions for 22 years and has been a North American Mission Board-appointed missionary for over 25 years. He served as a pastor and church planter in Buffalo, N.Y.; a language catalytic missionary for the Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware; a language missions director for the Baptist Convention of New Mexico; and director of the Division of Mission Ministries, Baptist Convention of New Mexico. Suarez’s research interests include selected topics in the areas of cultural issues and the church. He and his wife, Diana, have two sons, Philip and Matthew, and one grandson.

Helping coordinate the work of more than 1,790 Oklahoma Baptist churches, Jordan has served as the executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma since 1996. Born in Ponca City, Okla., Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to his work in the lead role of the BGCOK, Jordan served as a pastor for more than 29 years. He’s also held many posts within the Southern Baptist Convention, including terms of service on the Executive Committee and the Resolution Committee. He was chair of the Committee on Committees, and was chair of the Baptist Faith and Message family study committee. He is an outspoken advocate for the denomination’s Cooperative Program and has led national efforts to expand Southern Baptists’ shared ministry efforts. Jay Smith serves as the director of Ploughshares International, a Muslim ministry in London. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. dissertation entitled “2,000 years of Christian/Muslim apologetics/polemics, and their efficacy post 911,” at the Guthrie Center of Islamic Studies at the London School of Theology. In addition to his own studies, he has taught classes in advanced Islamics and apologetics/polemics and has provided training in Islamics for evangelists in the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, as well as for missionaries entering the Muslim world. Since 1995, he has participated in over 40 formal debates with distinguished Muslim scholars, statesmen and apologists. Smith also leads a weekly workshop that prepares Christians who are interested in publicly engaging Muslims and provides such opportunities on Speaker’s Corner in London.

As executive vice president, Brad Waggoner oversees LifeWay’s daily operations and works directly with President Thom Rainer in the strategic leadership of the organization. His role includes supervising all divisional vice presidents, developing policies and goals in line with the president’s larger objectives, and assisting the president in the development of strategic plans and annual budgets. Waggoner came to LifeWay in 2006 as the inaugural director of LifeWay Research. Prior to that, Waggoner served as dean of the School of Leadership & Church Ministry at Southern Seminary. He joined Southern’s teaching faculty in 1999 and assumed the deanship in 2001. During his tenure as dean, Waggoner developed and taught several classes on leadership and discipleship in addition to his administrative responsibilities. Waggoner has served on staff at three Southern Baptist churches, including eight years as executive pastor at Far Hills Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, then the largest Southern Baptist church in Ohio. He received a Master of Religious Education degree from Southwestern Seminary; a Master of Arts from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago; and a Ph.D. from Southwestern. Waggoner is the author of The Shape of Faith to Come and numerous other publications. He and his wife Patti have two sons, Brandt and Blake.

Charles Briscoe is pastor emeritus of Paseo Baptist Church in Kansas City. He is a native Kansas Citian and has been involved with community services most of his life – including Goodwill Industries, the Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance and the Young Men’s Christian Association. From 1970 to 1974, he worked as president and later chairman of the Kansas City, Mo., school board. Retired since February 2003, Briscoe was the senior pastor at Paseo Baptist Church for 35 years. He’s made mission trips with the church all over the world – including Africa, Israel and Jamaica. He has also participated in a work and witness trip to South Africa, where along with his wife, Georgia Mae, and six other Paseo Baptist members, he helped start up their sister church in Johannesburg and conducted Vacation Bible schools for area youths. Briscoe is still involved with Paseo Baptist and serves on the board of directors for the Salvation Army and as secretary for the Carver Foreign Missions Board. He was appointed co-chair of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association’s 2004 Heart of America Campaign, which came through Kansas City.

Ron Huggins teaches New Testament and Greek and serves as associate professor of New Testament and Greek at MBTS. He received his Doctor of Theology from Wycliffe College, Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto, his Master of Christian Studies from Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia, and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Idaho. Huggins comes to Midwestern after eight years at Salt Lake Theological Seminary in Salt Lake City, Utah. There he served as professor of historical and theological studies and as the director of the Master of Arts in Theological Studies program. Prior to that, Huggins taught at Moody Northwest in Spokane, Wash., and as a Latin teacher at private Christian schools in Spokane and in Couer d’Alene, Idaho. Huggins is the author of Roman Catholicism and the Evangelical Conscience (1981). His scholarly articles have appeared in a number of settings, including the Journal of Biblical Literature, Westminster Theological Journal, Revue de Qumran, Novum Testamentum, Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, and Eerdman's Dictionary of the Bible. His cartoons have appeared in Christianity Today and in the Wittenburg Door.

He started Nebraska Christian Challenge (BSU) in 1972 and planted New Covenant Community Church (SBC) in 1986, which currently has over 700 regular attenders. Phil Roberts surpassed 10 years of serving as president of Midwestern Seminary on Feb. 12. Roberts arrived at MBTS after a seven-year tenure with the North American Mission Board, where he served as vice president for the Strategic Cities Strategies Group, director of the Interfaith Evangelism Department and later as vice president for urban evangelism and church planting. In carrying out these duties, Roberts often taught seminary students to understand the perspectives of other religious groups in order to witness more effectively. Roberts served as professor of missions and evangelism at Southeastern Seminary from 1990-1994 and co-directed the Lewis Drummond Center for Great Commission Studies. In addition to pastoring international churches in England, Germany and Belgium, Roberts has extensive experience leading and teaching evangelism and discipleship courses throughout Europe. The president received his Ph.D. from the Free University of Amsterdam, conducted post-graduate research at Oxford University, earned a M.Div. from Southern Seminary and a B.A. from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky. He is the author of several books, including Mormonism Unmasked and The Counterfeit Gospel of Mormonism, and has served as executive director of The Mormon Puzzle and The Cross and the Crescent interfaith videos. In April 2010, he was elected as president of the International Society of Christian Apologetics. He and his wife, Anja, have two grown children, Naomi and Mark.

Thor Madsen serves as dean of Midwestern College, SBC, and associate professor of New Testament, ethics and philosophy of religion. Madsen’s rich academic background prepares him for this uniquely varied faculty position. He was first a philosophy major at Wheaton College. From Wheaton, he went on to earn a Master of Arts in philosophy at Western Kentucky University and to spend a year in the doctoral program in philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With that base, he sensed God’s leading into biblical studies, and he enrolled at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he earned a Master of Divinity. He then went to the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament in 1998. His dissertation explores the relationship between the fact of the new life in Christ and the obligation of Christians to rise to that reality.

Alan Branch teaches Christian Ethics at Midwestern Seminary as well as Wisdom and Poetic Literature and Prophetic Literature for Midwestern Baptist College.   He received a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Having a special interest in medical ethics, he titled his dissertation “The Challenge Posed by Autonomy in Medical Ethics.” Branch earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kennesaw State College in Georgia. Prior to joining the Midwestern staff in 2001, he served as a pastor for eight years at Turner Memorial Baptist Church in Garner, N.C. Branch has served as the interim pastor for both McCarthy Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Mo., and Immanuel Baptist Church, in Wichita, Kan. He currently serves as a chaplain in the United States Army Reserves. His research interests include abortion, euthanasia, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research and the ethics of Gnosticism. Branch and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters, Joy and Anna Beth.

Elmer Towns is a college and seminary professor, an author of popular and scholarly works, the editor of two encyclopedias, a popular seminar lecturer, a dedicated worker in Sunday school and has developed over 20 resource packets for leadership education. He began teaching at Midwest Bible College in St. Louis for three years and was not satisfied with the textbooks, so he began writing his own. He was president of Winnipeg Bible College for five years, leading it to receive American Accreditation and Provincial authority to offer degrees. He also taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in greater Chicago, in the field of Religious Education and Evangelism. He co-founded Liberty University with Jerry Falwell in 1971, and was the only full-time teacher in the first year of its existence. Today, the university has over 11,400 students on campus and 39,000 in Liberty University Online. He further serves as dean of the School of Religion. Towns’ personal education includes a B.S. from Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minn., a M.A. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, a M.R.E. from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., and a D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. His wife of 55 years, Ruth, teaches classes at Liberty, and they have three children and 10 grandchildren.

Kevin Hamm has been the senior pastor of FBC Gardendale in Gardendale, Ala., since April 2006. The church averages 3,500 in worship and is consistently among the state leaders in baptisms. He previously served nine years as the senior pastor of Valley View Church in Louisville, Ky., which grew from 300 to 2,700 weekly worshippers during his tenure. Hamm preaches all over, including evangelism conferences in Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi. John Serworwora has served as president of the Jakarta Baptist Seminary in Indonesia since 2005. He has also served in different capacities prior to his calling to the ministry including project manager for the Disaster Relief Ministry of the IMB Office in Indonesia. In January 2000, God called him to full-time ministry, and Serworwora earned a M.Div. from Mid-America Baptist Seminary in 2005. Preaching and teaching about how to preach are two of his favorite things to do in ministry, and they lead him to numerous opportunities to preach revival all over Indonesia — mainly to the younger generations. In 2008, he established the Vision of Jakarta 100 at JBTS. It is a vision of planting 100 new churches throughout the city of Jakarta within five years. Seeing the great needs for quality theological education in Indonesia, he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Serworwora and his wife Lena have three daughters, Michelle, Maureen and Marianne.

Anthony George is pastor of the Aloma Church, where he has served since 1997. Inaugurated Eschatology and Ecclesiology. Midwestern is proud to welcome Dr. G.K. Beale, professor of New Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Penn., as the guest lecturer for this year’s Sizemore Lectures on Nov. 2-3. The lectures will be held during the 10 a.m. chapel services on each of those days. A former president of the Evangelical Theological Society, Beale is a respected evangelical leader and renowned scholar. He has published both for the evangelical constituency and for the mainstream academy. His commentary on Revelation (Eerdmans) sets the standard for the field. Beale is a scholar with a heart for the church and the desire and the ability to interact outside of the normal boundaries of broad evangelical discourse and publishing. His recent co-edited book, A Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament (Baker, 2007), was a finalist in the 2008 Christian Book Award in the Bible and Reference Category, winner of the 2008 Christianity Today Award of Merit in Biblical Studies, and named Academic Book of the Year (2008) by the Association of Theological Booksellers. The Inaugurated Eschatological Indicative and Imperative in Relation to Christian Living and Preaching. Midwestern is proud to welcome Dr. G.K. Beale, professor of New Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Penn., as the guest lecturer for this year’s Sizemore Lectures on Nov. 2-3. The lectures will be held during the 10 a.m. chapel services on each of those days. A former president of the Evangelical Theological Society, Beale is a respected evangelical leader and renowned scholar. He has published both for the evangelical constituency and for the mainstream academy. His commentary on Revelation (Eerdmans) sets the standard for the field. Beale is a scholar with a heart for the church and the desire and the ability to interact outside of the normal boundaries of broad evangelical discourse and publishing. His recent co-edited book, A Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament (Baker, 2007), was a finalist in the 2008 Christian Book Award in the Bible and Reference Category, winner of the 2008 Christianity Today Award of Merit in Biblical Studies, and named Academic Book of the Year (2008) by the Association of Theological Booksellers. Larry Cornine teaches Pastoral Care and Counseling classes at the graduate level and selected Christian Education and undergraduate classes. Along with his teaching responsibilities, he directs the Master’s in Counseling (MACO) program. Cornine has earned four degrees in education: a B.S.Ed., M.S.Ed., and Ed.Sp. at the University of Central Missouri, and an ED.D. from the University of Kansas. Additionally, he has a M.A. in Counseling from Liberty Baptist University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Golden State University. He began his professional career as a biology teacher in the North Kansas City School District at Oak Park High School. Interrupted by service in the U.S. Army, Cornine returned to the NKC District as a teacher, became an assistant principal at Oak Park High School, where he served for eight years and became the principal of Kearney High School. Leaving education, he established Diakonos Counseling Center, consulted with area in-patient psychiatric hospitals and retired from clinical practice in 2000. Cornine taught as an adjunct for many years before being elected to the faculty in 2008.

Jerry Johnson serves as vice president for Academic Development, academic dean, and professor of Ethics and Theology at MBTS. He came to Midwestern from Criswell College in Dallas, where he served as president and professor of Theology and Ethics. Prior to Criswell, he was dean of Boyce College at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has over 15 years of pastoral experience in Texas, Colorado and Kentucky. Johnson holds a B.A. from Criswell College, a M.A. from Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary and a Ph.D. from Southern Seminary. Johnson’s leadership in the SBC includes chairmanship for both the Board of Trustees of Southern Seminary and the SBC Committee on Order of Business. He and his wife, Rhonda, have two children.

After serving as a senior pastor in Southern Baptist churches for 32 years, Ed Meyers formed Bridge Pastoral Ministries, Inc., through which he continues to serve churches and pastors on a temporary basis. He has held pastoral positions in Roswell and Farmington, N.M., as well as in Redlands, Calif., and Florissant, Mo. Meyers led the Baptist Convention of New Mexico as president from 1986 to 1988. He is the chairman of the Executive Board of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and chairman of the Property/Finance Committee of the state’s convention. Meyers graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of arts degree and earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been an MBTS trustee since 2003. Meyers currently serves as the transitional pastor of First Baptist Church, Carlsbad, N.M. He and his wife, Jan, have three married children, Carrie, Jason and Jennifer.

Bill Harrell has served as senior pastor at Abilene Baptist Church since January 1981. He received an associate degree in business administration from Abraham Baldwin College in Georgia; a B.S. in business administration from Valdosta State College; attended Southeastern Seminary working toward a M.Div. with a pastoral care and the prophets concentration; and earned a Doctor of Divinity from Southern California Theological Seminary. In Convention service, Harrell has held numerous positions within the Georgia Baptist Convention, including Vice President in 1987-88. He has also served on the Southern Baptist Convention’s Committee on Committees and multiple terms on the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee (1986-1994 and 2003-Present), where he has acted as chairman and vice chairman. He and his wife, Carolyn (Gibbs), have three grown daughters.

John Lee is the newest member of the Midwestern faculty, having served here since Aug. 1. He arrived on campus after completing his doctoral research at Edinburgh University, which was combined with a teaching position at King’s Evangelical Divinity School and studies at Tubingen University. His recent research interests include Mark’s Gospel and New Testament Christology. Lee studied Music Composition at Seoul National University in Korea and then began his theological education at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He has also served in pastoral ministry for three Korean congregations, including the Korean Baptist Church of Indianapolis (SBC). John and his wife, Sunny, have a five-year old son, Joshua.

Jim Anderson teaches Biblical Studies and Aviation at Midwestern and serves as the Chancellor Pro Tem of Midwestern Baptist College, SBC. He received a Doctor of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary after earning his M.Div. there as well. He received his B.A. from Ottawa University. Anderson has been in the full-time ministry for more than 50 years having served as a pastor for 13 years and brings with him 32 years of teaching experience. From 1996-1999, he was the president of Calvary Bible College and Seminary and has been honored with the Calvary Bible College Alumnus of the Year Award. He has led tour groups to the Holy Land and taught aviation classes, as a Certified Flight Instructor, to train missionary pilots. Anderson is currently involved in evangelistic meetings, Bible conferences, camps, revival meetings, Bible studies, and aviation – teaching, flying, ministry and mercy flights, and some test flights. His research interests include archaeology. He and his wife, Diana, have four children – Rebecca, Bill, Jonathan and Dan – and 10 grandchildren.

John Mark Clifton has been lead pastor of Wornall Road Baptist Church in Kansas City since 2008. A veteran pastor and church planter, Clifton has served in and planted churches for more than 30 years in Missouri, Georgia, and Kansas-Nebraska. His roles have included Church Planting Missionary for the Home Mission Board in Atlanta, Ga., Director of Church Planting Projects for the HMB, and State Director of Missions, for the Kansas-Nebraska Convention. More recently he worked as Associate Director of the Blue River-Kansas City Baptist Association and as Executive Director of the Light House – a maternity home and adoption agency in Kansas City. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Jewel College and earned a M.Div. from Midwestern Seminary in 1985. He is a second-generation MBTS graduate as his father, Rev. Harry Clifton, is a 1969 graduate. Clifton and his wife, Jill (Adams), have two married sons, Jordan and Trenton.

Roger Spradlin has served as the senior pastor of Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, Calif., since 1983. Prior to Valley Baptist, he pastored churches in Texas and California. He also directed the California Southern Baptist Convention’s Baptist Student Union program. He earned his D.Min. from Southern Seminary in 2002, a M.A. in Biblical Studies from Criswell College in 1983, and a B.A. in Religion from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1977. In Southern Baptist service, Spradlin is the SBC’s chairman of the Executive Committee, a member of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force, a past president of the California Southern Baptist Convention and a Board of Trustees member at Southern Seminary. Tony Preston teaches pastoral leadership at Midwestern. He received a Doctor of Ministry at Reformed Seminary and has earned a M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a B.A. from William Carey College – all while pastoring. Preston is a veteran pastor, having served for 22 years in churches in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas. He continues to pastor on a very regular interim basis. In addition to pastoral experience, he was professor of Evangelism at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., and served on the Christian Life Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. His research interests are all in the field of pastoral ministry and leadership. Preston and his wife, Brenda, have two grown children, Brandon and Angela.

David Tolliver was elected Executive Director of the Missouri Baptist Convention on Feb. 3, 2009. Previously he served as Assoc. Prior to joining the MBC staff, Tolliver served for almost 20 years as pastor to three Missouri churches. Tolliver is a native of Missouri and a fourth generation Missouri-Southern Baptist pastor/preacher. He has also served in leadership positions within the Southern Baptist Convention, MBC and three Missouri Baptist Associations. Tolliver received his undergraduate degree from Dallas Baptist University. He also studied at Southwestern Seminary before earning a M.Div. and D.Min. from Midwestern. Dr. Akec Khoc has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the U.S. since September 2008. His other political duties have included Deputy Permanent Representative from Sudan to the U.N. and Deputy Director of the International organizations Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—Khartoum, Sudan. Prior to his political endeavors, Dr. Khoc served as a physician in a major Sudanese refugee camp in Ethiopia, and as the Humanitarian Service Coordinator in Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-controlled areas. The Ambassador holds degrees in Medicine and Surgery from the Khartoum Medical School and remains a licensed physician. Dr. Khoc is a Christian who “embraced the Savior, Jesus Christ, in 1985.” He actively participates in the weekly Ambassador’s prayer breakfasts in the Washington, D.C. area. He and his wife have seven children.

Johnston serves as Associate Professor of Evangelism at Midwestern and brings to Midwestern an emphasis in the practice of evangelism. He founded the Midwestern Evangelistic Team, going out multiple times a week in street evangelism and partnering with local churches for outreach. Johnston earned his Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2001. His dissertation was published by Wipf and Stock Publishers in 2003 with the title Examining Billy Graham’s Theology of Evangelism. His current work, Book of Charts for a Theology of Evangelism, was released by Broadman Holman in 2007. He has published articles in the Trinity Journal, Perichoresis, Midwestern Journal of Theology, Preaching Magazine, and Decision Magazine. Johnston has taught evangelism in the U.S., Canada, and in Eastern and Western Europe since 1985. He has pastored churches in Quebec, Manitoba, Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri. Among his current research interests are evangelism in 13th Century Southern France and from 16th Century Geneva, the Inquisition and Protestant martyrologies, and the Bible Society movement.

Dr. Alan Tomlinson teaches New Testament and Greek at Midwestern Seminary. He received a Doctor of Philosophy from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary and a B.S. from University of Tennessee. Prior to coming to Midwestern, Tomlinson worked as an industrial engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority, was an office manager for a Certified Public Accountant and served as dean of men at a Bible college. Tomlinson is currently a noted conference speaker and was named Professor of the Year for the 2000-01 academic year.

John Marshall was born Dec. 22, 1951, in Sikeston, Mo., a sixth generation preacher. At age 23 he became the youngest person ever to earn a Doctor of Ministry degree from a Southern Baptist seminary. He and his wife, Ruth, have two married children and four grandchildren. The Marshalls came to Springfield Second in 1995. In 1997 a missions revival began there, and it continues to be the main emphasis of the church.

Tony Lambert has been the senior pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, in Del City, Okla. since June 2007. Tony was born in New Orleans, La., and grew up in southern Mississippi. He was saved at age 10, and then called to the ministry as a senior in high school. He holds degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Lambert has served as a pastor since 1978. He and his wife, Sherry, have served in three regions of the country including the Midwest, Southeast, and now the Southwest.

His burden for the lost began during an eighth-grade geography class. Jerry Rankin learned about Islam, Buddhism and communism while staring at maps and studying distant lands. During those lessons, he was shaken by the thought of how many people didn’t know Jesus. That burden led Rankin and his wife, Bobbye, to share the Gospel among the people of Indonesia. Appointed in 1970 by the Foreign Mission Board (now IMB), Rankin planted churches among the Indonesian people for more than a decade before taking on leadership roles on the field. After serving overseas for 23 years, he became IMB’s 10th president in 1993. With more than 5,500 missionaries currently serving abroad, Rankin travels the globe preaching, teaching, leading conferences and encouraging others to answer God’s call to missions. The Rankins’ two children have served on the mission field as well.

Dr. Gordon Fort serves as Vice President of the Office of Global Strategy with the IMB. He was born in Zimbabwe, where his parents served as missionaries. Fort received a B.S. degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and the M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has served as a summer staff worker at Glorieta in New Mexico and as pastor of Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church in Caldwell, Texas. Fort was appointed as a missionary in Feb. 1985, and served as a general evangelist in Botswana. While on the mission field, he has served in such leadership positions as Associate to Area Director for Southern Africa and Regional Leader for Southern Africa. In 2004, Fort resigned from missionary service to join the IMB home office staff. Fort and his wife Leigh Ann have five children, Sarah, Giles Harrison, Kathryn, Elizabeth, and Ann.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary trustees unanimously elected Dr. R. Philip Roberts as the fourth president of the Kansas City-based Southern Baptist seminary in Jan. 2001. Since arriving, Roberts has overseen steady growth in MBTS’s student population, assembled a top-tier faculty, launched Midwestern Baptist College, SBC, implemented a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program, and expanded the school’s campus by purchasing the Koehn-Myers building, constructing housing facilities and renovating many of the campus’ existing buildings. Roberts began his duties in Feb. 2001, after a seven-year tenure with the North American Mission Board, where he served as vice president for the Strategic Cities Strategies Group. In addition to pastoring international churches in England, Germany and Belgium, Roberts has extensive experience leading and teaching evangelism and discipleship courses throughout Europe. Roberts received his Ph.D. from the Free University of Amsterdam, conducted post-graduate research at Oxford University, received the M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and the B.A. from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky. He is the author of several books, including Mormonism Unmasked and The Counterfeit Gospel of Mormonism, as well as having served as executive director of the Mormonism Unmasked and The Cross and the Crescent interfaith videos. He has also contributed to numerous theological journals, opinion pages and Christian publications. Roberts and his wife, Anja, have two children, Naomi and Mark.

Rev. Steve Dighton has been the Senior Pastor at Lenexa Baptist Church since 1990. Prior to Lenexa, he was the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Okla. Dighton received his education at Dallas Baptist University and holds two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before his call to the ministry, he enjoyed a career in the men's clothing business. While serving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at his home church, First Baptist of Ada, Okla., he felt God's call to full time service. The Dighton family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, so he could follow God's leading and attend seminary. Since that time, God has confirmed that calling in many ways. At today’s service, Midwestern will host a presentation by Lawrence Corley, Director of Builders for Christ, based in Birmingham, Ala. The BFC network of volunteers will join hands with MBTS between Memorial Day and Labor Day to assist in the construction of the Chapel at Midwestern complex. During the presentation, students, faculty, staff and visitors will receive up-to-the-minute insight into the details of the upcoming construction project. Since 1982, Corley and the BFC network have spearheaded efforts to assist Southern Baptist churches and organizations primarily in the Northeastern and Midwestern U.S. to build quality facilities with the goal of reaching people in those areas with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to his work with BFC, Corley is the President of CTSM Architects, Inc., in Birmingham.

Dr. Jerry A. Johnson serves as Vice President for Academic Development, Academic Dean, and Professor of Ethics and Theology at MBTS. He comes to Midwestern from Criswell College in Dallas, where he served as President and Professor of Theology and Ethics. Prior to Criswell, he was Dean of Boyce College at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has over 15 years of pastoral experience in Texas, Colorado, and Kentucky. Johnson holds a B.A. from Criswell College, an M.A. from Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary, and a Ph.D. from Southern Seminary. His leadership in the Southern Baptist Convention includes chairmanship for both the Board of Trustees of Southern Seminary and the SBC Committee on Order of Business. He and his wife, Rhonda, have two children.

Dr. Robin Hadaway has served as Associate Professor of Missions at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary since October of 2003. Previously, he and his wife Kathy have been missionaries with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for a total of 18 years. Hadaway was the strategy coordinator, cluster leader, and church planter in a closed country in North Africa and earlier as a church planter in Tanzania. More recently, Hadaway was the IMB Regional Leader for Eastern South America, supervising over 300 missionaries in Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. He also has been a senior pastor for churches in California and Arizona and attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Alaska and Nevada. Hadaway holds graduate degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Hadaway also attended Dallas Theological Seminary. His undergraduate degree is from Memphis State University. He is a native of Tallahassee, Fla., and is married to the former Kathy Baze of Phoenix, Ariz. They have three grown children.

Dr. Ken Weathersby is Senior Strategist of Evangelization for NAMB. Prior to this role, he was Senior Director of the Equipping Team for the Church Planting Group, where he led in the assessment, training and equipping of church planters and sponsoring/partnering churches, and also new church strengthening. Weathersby graduated from Mississippi College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He earned a M.Div. from Southern Seminary, and holds a D.Min. from the Reformed Theological Seminary. He has also been a National Missionary, serving as the Nehemiah Project Director and Associate Professor of Church Planting at New Orleans Seminary. He was the State Evangelism Director for the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and prior to that he was a church planting missionary in Tennessee. He has pastored in Kirkintilloch, Scotland, and has served as a part-time lecturer at Aberdeen University, and as a distance tutor in at St. John's College, and the Open Theological College, both in England. He has authored several books, including Hearts Aflame (Triangle/SPCK), Clouds of Heaven (Triangle/SPCK), The Passionate Preacher (Christian Focus), The Prayers and Meditations of Susanna Wesley (MPH, London), God's Polished Arrow (Christian Focus), and The Unpublished Sermons of M'Cheyne (Banner of Truth). He is also Associate Editor (Church History) for Oxford University's New Dictionary of National Biography.

As Director of the Research Institute, he oversees the research and collection of information on pressing moral and religious liberty issues. Barrett has worked with legislators and government agencies on policy issues including abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, pornography, religious liberty, same-sex marriage, and stem cell research. Barrett graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Bible from Criswell College. He received an M.A. in Old Testament from Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary, and he received a Ph.D. in Religious and Theological Studies from the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver.

Suarez’s research interests include selected topics in the areas of cultural issues and the church. He and his wife, Diana, have two sons, Philip and Matthew.

Bruce McCoy has served as pastor of Canaan Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo., for 11 years. McCoy spent the early part of his ministry as a Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, Fla. In addition to being involved in theological education and international ministry, Roberts has co-authored two books, "Mormonism Unmasked" and "The Counterfeit Gospel of Mormonism", contributed to a number of Christian and evangelical journals and publications, and assisted in the production of two videos, "The Cross and the Crescent" (2001) and "The Mormon Puzzle" (1997). Roberts received his Ph.D. degree from Free University of Amsterdam, did post-graduate research at Oxford University, and earned an M.Div. degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Anna, have two grown children.

Though a native of Arkansas, Harold Rawlings spent most of his boyhood years in Tyler, Texas. He holds degrees from Baptist Bible College, Bob Jones University, California Graduate School of Theology, and Louisiana Baptist University. Rawlings' first pastorate was in St. Louis, where he served for six years. In 1963, he became the associate pastor of Landmark Baptist Temple in Cincinnati. In 1984, he became co-pastor along with his father, Dr. John Rawlings, and then served as senior pastor from 1994 to 2001. Now associated with The Rawlings Foundation, Rawlings preaches and lectures in churches, institutions, conferences, and seminars worldwide. He and his wife, Sylvia, have five children, all of whom are involved either in full-time ministry or as active volunteers in their local churches.

Dayton Moore was named Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations/General Manager of the Kansas City Royals on May 30, 2006, and assumed his duties, become the sixth general manager in franchise history, on June 8. A native of Wichita, Kan., he had previously served with the Atlanta Braves since 1994, including stints as Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations, Director of Player Personnel, and Director of International Scouting among other titles. Moore played a key role in a majority of the Braves string of 14-straight division titles. Prior to joining the Braves, he served as an assistant baseball coach at George Mason University from 1990 to 1994. While working on a graduate degree at GMU, Moore also managed the Winchester Royals of the Shenandoah Valley League from 1991 to 1993. He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education and health and a master's degree in athletic administration, both from GMU. A leader in the Kansas City community, Moore was named to the Board of Directors of the NAIA's Champions of Character program in 2007. He and his wife, Marianne, have three children. Trey Hillman was named the 15th full-time manager in Kansas City Royals history on Oct. 19, 2007. He was a standout baseball player at the University of Texas at Arlington and was named to the UTA Athletic Hall of Honor in 1992. Signed by the Cleveland Indians as a free agent in June 1985, Hillman played for the Batavia Trojans, Waterloo Indians, Waterbury Indians, and Kinston Indians in his three professional seasons. He spent the latter part of 1987 and all of 1988 scouting for the Indians in the Oklahoma/Texas area. Hillman began his coaching career in 1989 with Class A Prince William, helping coach the team to a Carolina League championship. He spent 12 seasons with the New York Yankees system, compiling an overall mark of 855-761 and led his teams to eight winning seasons and four playoff appearances, earned three Manager of the Year awards in the process. Hillman was named Director of Player Development for the Texas Rangers in 2002. The following year, he signed a two-year contract as manager of the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japanese professional baseball's Pacific League and guided the team to its first Japan Series title in 2006. Hillman and his wife, Marie, have two children.

Dr. E. David Cook is Fellow and Chaplain of Green College, Director of the Whitefield Institute in Oxford, and the first Holmes Professor of Faith and Learning at Wheaton College. He is also Distinguished Professor of Christian Ethics at Southern Seminary. Dr. Cook holds a B.A. from Arizona State University, an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Edinburgh University, an M.A. from Oxford University, an honorary D.Litt. from Gordon College, and an honorary D.D. from Criswell College. He taught for six years at St. John's College and the University of Nottingham and has been at Oxford since 1979 teaching medical ethics, philosophy, theology and Christian ethics. Dr. Cook is heavily involved in the medical ethical issues at the beginning and end of life, genetics, resource allocation, gerontology, research ethics, consent, and confidentiality. He is married and has two grown children and one grandson.

Dr. Hershael York is the Victor and Louise Lester Professor of Christian Preaching and Associate Dean of Ministry and Proclamation in the School of Theology of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Since December 2003, he has served as pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, Ky. Dr. York holds a B.A. in English and Classical Civilizations from the University of Kentucky, where he also earned a Master of Arts in Classical Languages. He received a Master of Divinity as well as a Ph.D. in Greek and New Testament from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. York is co-author with Bert Decker of “Speaking with Bold Assurance (2001), a book that guides Christians in effective communication, and “Preaching with Bold Assurance (2003), named one of Preaching magazine's best books of 2003. He served as president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention in 2005. Dr. York and his wife of 28 years, Tanya, have two married sons, Michael and Seth.

Dr. Calvin Wittman is senior pastor of Applewood Baptist Church, Wheat Ridge, Colo., a position he has held since October 1999. Born in Ohio and raised in Texas, Dr. Wittman is the son of a lay pastor and the grandson of a vocational evangelist. He holds a bachelor's degree from Baylor University, an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. in expository preaching from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has also studied at the University of Alcala de Henares outside of Madrid, Spain. In 2005, Dr. Wittman was awarded an honorary Doctor of Missiology from Yun Byun Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has worked as a news anchor on both television and radio stations in Texas. Dr. Wittman and his wife of 25 years, Diane, served as missionaries to Spain with the International Mission Board from 1995 to 1998. He currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. Wittman and his wife have three children.

Dr. Ron Huggins was recently appointed as Associate Professor of New Testament and Greek at MBTS. He earned a B.F.A. from the University of Idaho, a Master of Christian Studies degree from Regent College in Vancouver, and a Doctor of Theology degree from Wycliffe College, University of Toronto. Prior to his arrival to MBTS, Huggins served as Professor of Historical and Theological Studies at Salt Lake Theological Seminary, as well as an adjunct professor of history and Bible at the Moody Bible Institute at the Northwest Center for External Studies, and taught Latin at Christian academies in Washington and Idaho. He is currently an executive board member for the Institute of Religious Research and is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Evangelical Theological Society. Huggins is married to Marguerite.

Rev. Paul Brooks is senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Raytown, Mo. Born in Jennings, La., he was converted at age 6 and called to preach at age 9. Brooks holds a B.A. from Louisiana College, a Th.M. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and an honorary doctorate from Southwest Baptist University. He pastored churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida before coming to FBC Raytown in 1985. Brooks was elected as president of the Missouri Baptist Convention in 1994-95 and has served as a member of the International Mission Board, chairman of the SBU Board of Trustees, and chairman of the Pastors Committee for the 2004 Billy Graham crusade in Kansas City. He is the author of “Legacy of Faith: The Story of First Baptist Church. Brooks and his wife, Becky, have three grown children and ten grandchildren.

Dr. Thor Madsen was recently elected Dean of Midwestern Baptist College, SBC, and re-elected Associate Professor of New Testament, Ethics, and Philosophy at MBTS. He served as Vice President for Academic Development and Dean of the Faculty from 2003 to 2009. Madsen was born in Amarillo, Texas, and raised in Fresno, Calif. He holds a B.A. in philosophy with natural science from Wheaton College, an M.A. in philosophy from Western Kentucky University, an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in New Testament from the University of Aberdeen. His research at Aberdeen explored the relationship between the fact of the new life in Christ and the obligation of Christians to rise to that reality. Madsen is the husband of Ng Rita Li Fong, who was born in Indonesia and who worked alongside his grandfather, Robert Williams, during the latter's 60-year career as a missionary in Western Borneo. He is the father of twin 13-year-old boys, Paul and Timothy.

Rev. Doug Richey currently serves as Senior Pastor of Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. A Missouri native, Richey grew up in Warrensburg where he attended the University of Central Missouri, earning a B.S. degree in finance and economics. He subsequently worked for Chrysler Financial for 6 years in numerous capacities including management and corporate training, and served as a combat engineer with the Missouri Army National Guard for 8 years. Richey completed his M.Div. at MBTS in 2000 and is currently working toward an M.A. in Biblical Languages. He has served on several Southern Baptist Convention and Missouri Baptist Convention committees, most recently vice-chair of the SBC Credentials Committee and chair of the MBC Resolutions Committee. Richey currently serves as a trustee for Missouri Baptist University, president of the MBC Pastors Conference, and president of the MBTS National Alumni Association. He and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for 13 years and have two daughters.

R. Philip Roberts is the fourth president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a position he has held since 2001. He previously served as vice president with the North American Mission Board. In addition to being involved in theological education and international ministry, Roberts has co-authored two books, Mormonism Unmasked and The Counterfeit Gospel of Mormonism, contributed to a number of Christian and evangelical journals and publications, and assisted in the production of two videos, “The Cross and the Crescent (2001) and “The Mormon Puzzle (1997). The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins Conference - William M. Schniedewind is former chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, the Kershaw Chair of Ancient Eastern Meditterranean Studies, and Professor of Biblical Studies and Northwest Semitic Languages at the University of California-Los Angeles. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from Brandeis University, an M.A. from Jerusalem University College, and a B.A. from George Fox University. Dr. Schniedewind is the author of four books, including A Primer on Ugaritic: Language, Culture, and Literature (2007, with Joel Hunt) and How the Bible Became a Book: The Textualization of Ancient Israel (2004), as well as numerous articles. He serves as Network Editor for the Dead Sea Scrolls and Second Temple Judaism section of Religious Studies Review. Dr. Schniedewind was also the director of the Qumran Visualization Project.

The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins Conference - Terry L. Wilder serves as Research Professor of New Testament and Greek at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, an M.Div.BL. from Southwestern Seminary, and an M.A. from Dallas Baptist University. He is a prolific contributor of papers to theological conferences and has authored several articles and two books: Faithful to the End: An Introduction to Hebrews through Revelation (2007) and Pseudonymity, the New Testament, and Deception (2004). Brooke is Rylands Professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis and Director of the Centre for Biblical Studies at the University of Manchester. From 1994 to 2005, Dr. Brooke served as co-director of the Manchester-Sheffield Centre for Dead Sea Scrolls Research. The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins Conference - John J. Collins is Holmes Professor of Old Testament Criticism and Interpretation at Yale University. He previously taught at the University of Chicago and the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Collins earned a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from Harvard University in 1972. He has published widely on the subjects of apocalypticism, wisdom, Hellenistic Judaism, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr. Collins has served as editor of the Journal of Biblical Literature, Dead Sea Discoveries, and the Supplement Series to the Journal for the Study of Judaism. He has served as president of the Catholic Biblical Association (1997) and the Society of Biblical Literature (2002). Stephen J. Patterson is Professor of New Testament at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, where he has taught since 1988. Dr. Patterson grew up as the son of a pastor and school teacher in rural South Dakota. He received a B.A. from Yankton College, and holds graduate degrees from Harvard University and the Claremont Graduate School, where he received a Ph.D. in New Testament in 1988. Dr. Patterson specializes in the study of the historical Jesus, Christian origins, and the Gospel of Thomas. He has authored or co-authored several books, most recently Beyond the Passion: Rethinking the Death and Life of Jesus (2004), as well as numerous essays and reviews. Rev. W.H. “Dub' Jackson, Jr. serves as president of Partnership Evangelism. Founded in 1970, the group creates missions partnerships with local churches and pastors around the world and organizes campaigns to those areas. The son of a pastor, Jackson served in the Army Air Corps Reserve during World War II and flew a twin-engine P-38 Lightning with the Pacific's most successful P-38 squadron, the 49th Fighter Group. He returned to the states in 1946 and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, after which he and his wife, Doris, were sent to Japan as missionaries. In 1957, the Jacksons were in Tokyo after a furlough when they were asked to start a new church for English speakers in the capital. This resulted in the founding of Tokyo Baptist Church in Shibuya, which today is home to more than 1,000 members. The couple has continued to organize churches and share the gospel, witnessing in over 50 countries. The Jacksons reside in Abilene, Tex.

Dr. Alan Branch is assistant professor of Christian ethics at MBTS. He received Ph.D. and M.Div. degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Having a special interest in medical ethics, he titled his dissertation "The Challenge Posed by Autonomy in Medical Ethics." Branch earned a B.B.A. degree from Kennesaw State College. Prior to joining the Midwestern staff in 2001, he served as a pastor for eight years in North Carolina. Branch continues to serve as interim pastor in the Missouri-Kansas area. His research interests include abortion, euthanasia, human cloning and embryonic stem cell research, and the ethics of Gnosticism. Branch and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters-Joy and Anna Beth.

Dr. Don McMurry has served as director of missions for the Greater Dayton (Ohio) Association of Baptists for the past 14 years. A native of Jefferson City, Mo., Dr. McMurry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Wake Forest University, an M.Div. degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He spent 25 years as a pastor, including stints at Riverview Baptist Church in Franklin, Ohio; First Baptist Church of Centralia, Mo.; and First Baptist Church of Fairborn, Ohio. Dr. McMurry is the author of "Forever Seventeen: Proud to Be a Jay", an autobiographical account of playing football for legendary Jefferson City coach Pete Adkins. His wife of 42 years, Norma, has a speaking ministry, Giving Thanks Ministry. The McMurrys have three children and nine grandchildren.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is pleased to welcome Dr. Billy Kim and the Korean Children's Choir to its campus. Dr. Kim will be the keynote speaker for the seminary's Academic Convocation on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel auditorium. He will also present the annual Drummond Lectures at MBTS on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and Wednesday, Jan. 28. The Korean Children's Choir will also perform at these events. ABOUT DR. KIM Dr. Billy (Jang Hwan) Kim is a world-renowned evangelist and broadcaster. Having preached the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world to thousands of people in all walks of life, his list of accomplishments and service in the Christian community is extensive. Dr. Kim currently serves as chairman of the board of the Far East Broadcasting Co. (FEBC) - Korea, as well as pastor emeritus of Suwon Central Baptist Church. He is a past president of the Baptist World Alliance. During the Korean War, an American soldier befriended young Billy and paid for eight years of his education in the United States. He then returned to Korea with his Michigan bride in 1959 where they have ministered for nearly 50 years. The Korea radio ministry began in 1956 to broadcast the gospel message to North Korea, China, Russia, and Mongolia, where missionaries themselves could not go. Today, FEBC-Korea broadcasts on nine local FM stations in Korean and two high-powered AM transmitters proclaiming the gospel in Korean, Chinese, English, Japanese, and Russian. ABOUT THE KOREAN CHILDREN'S CHOIR The Korean Children's Choir was organized as a ministry of FEBC-Korea. Choir members are selected through a rigorous audition process. Various concerts are performed throughout the year at cultural centers, theme parks, universities, and many churches both in Korea and the United States. ABOUT THE DRUMMOND LECTURES The Drummond Lecture Series on Evangelism was established in 2005 by Mrs. Betty Drummond of Asheville, N.C., as an annual one-week lecture series dedicated in memory of her late husband, Dr. Lewis A. Drummond. Dr. Drummond, known as an evangelical scholar with a passion for evangelism, served as president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1988-92. He also was the Billy Graham Professor of Evangelism at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky., from 1973-88 and director of the Billy Graham Center there. Previously, he taught at Spurgeon's Theological College in London from 1968-73 and was pastor of Ninth and O Baptist Church in Louisville from 1964-68. At the time of his death in 2004, Dr. Drummond was evangelism professor in residence at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville and chancellor of schools of evangelism for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Dr. Geoff Hammond is president of the North American Mission Board, a position he has held since May 2007. Hammond was born in Ogbomosho, Nigeria, to missionary parents and raised in Zimbabwe where he passed the final examination of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries (Business Administration). He is a graduate of Spurgeon's Seminary in London, and received the Doctor of Ministry degree in evangelism and missions from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Hammond served on staff at First Baptist Church of Dallas and served as a church planter in Lewisville, Tex. He was appointed an International Missionary Board missionary to Recife, Brazil, in 1990. He served as professor of missiology and church planting at the North Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary and assisted in church planting with the Pernambuco Baptist State Convention. He was a director of missions for the Washington Madison Baptist Association in northwest Arkansas before becoming a church planting strategist with the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. Hammond also served as minister of global missions at First Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. In 2002, he became the senior associate director of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia.

Dr. Harrison currently serves as vice president of institutional effectiveness and director of doctoral studies at MBTS. Harrison came to Midwestern following a fruitful ministry in church planting and mission service in California, the Dakotas, and Minnesota. He has written for Lifeway Christian Resources and the North American Mission Board and is the co-author of Spin-Off Churches: How One Church Successfully Plants Another. Harrison holds a D.Min. degree in Mission Administration from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and has done post-doctoral work at Oxford University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Kyle Roberts is assistant professor of systematic theology at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He received his Ph.D. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2006, upon completion of his dissertation on the nature and function of the Bible in Soren Kierkegaard's religious epistemology. He has authored book chapters and articles on Kierkegaard and is currently co-authoring a book entitled Emerging Prophet: Kierkegaard and the Postmodern People of God. Roberts, the nephew of MBTS President R. Philip Roberts, holds an M.Div. degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a B.A. degree in philosophy and literature from Wheaton College. While at Midwestern, Roberts served as youth pastor at Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo.

The Sizemore Lectures were established in 1978 in memory of Dr. Burlan A. Sizemore, Jr., professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Midwestern from 1968 to 1976. Dr. Sizemore died in an automobile accident in 1976 while a member of the faculty. The annual lectures bring noted biblical scholars to the Midwestern campus to acquaint students and the community with a variety of disciplines and interpretations, continuing the excellence of teaching and dedication which characterized Dr. Sizemore. This year, Midwestern is pleased to welcome Dr. Steven M. Ortiz for the Sizemore Lectures. Dr. Ortiz was recently appointed associate professor of archaeology and biblical backgrounds and Director of the Charles C. Tandy Archaeology Museum at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was hired to develop an institute of archaeology as well as new degree programs in the field of biblical archaeology. He has been recognized as a regional and national scholar within the profession of biblical archaeology and biblical studies. In a recent article in the Biblical Archaeology Review, Dr. Ortiz was recognized as one of the next generation of evangelical scholars making an impact in the field of archaeology. The last time Dr. Ortiz was on our campus he was an associate professor of archaeology and director of the Center for Archaeological Research at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. When Katrina hit the city, faculty and students were scattered. Dr. Ortiz and his family relocated to Texas where providential events led to his new faculty appointment. Dr. Ortiz is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he studied under Dr. William G. Dever. He has over 25 years of field experience where he has served as a senior staff member at Tel Miqne-Ekron, Tel Zeitah, Gezer, Jerusalem (Ketef Hinnom), Lachish, Tell el-Hamma, and Tel Dor. Dr. Ortiz regularly presents papers at academic meetings (SBL, ASOR, AIA, ETS) and is a frequent speaker on college and university campuses. Dr. Ortiz also has several publication projects. He has one book in press Excavations 1994-1996, Fields IVNE/NW and VSE/SW: The Iron Age II, Late Philistine Temple Complex and he is working on a book for the British Archaeological Report Series, The 11/10th Century BCE Aijalon Valley Region Ceramic Corpus: New Evidence From Tel Miqne-Ekron Stratum IV. He is currently under contract to write a book titled the Intersections of Archaeology and Biblical Interpretation (Broadman & Holman Press). Ortiz currently served as a member of the board of Directors for the Near Eastern Archaeology Society and the Southwest Commission on Religious Studies, a committee member for the American Schools of Oriental Research, and was the President for the American Schools of Oriental Research Southwest Region. He grew up in East Los Angeles and has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he is passionate about teaching students and the church on the relevance of the historical and cultural context in the interpretation of scripture. He is a frequent supply preacher and conference speaker.

Bishop Simon Gordon has served as senior pastor of Triedstone Full Gospel Baptist Church in Chicago since 1989. He received his undergraduate degree in theology from the Chicago Baptist Institute in 1987 and went on to earn an M.Div. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He holds two honorary doctorates from GMOR Theological Institute of Northwest, Ind., and Midwest Christian College and Seminary. Under the International Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, Gordon currently holds the position of Regional Bishop for the Midwest region, overseeing Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, and Canada. Previously, he served as State Bishop for Illinois for 12 years.

Paul Purvis serves as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Forsyth, Mo. He earned an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a bachelor's degree from Furman University in Greenville, Ga. Prior to his arrival at FBC Forsyth, Purvis served churches in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. He has held positions of service in the associations in which he served, as well as the state conventions and the Southern Baptist Convention, including a stint as an officer of the SBC Pastor's Conference. Under his leadership, FBC Forsyth has experienced significant growth and has been a leader in baptisms both in the Tri County Association and the Missouri Baptist Convention.

Dr. Bill Thomas is an international evangelist representing the Bill Thomas Evangelistic Association. Originally from the U.S., he has been living in Western Europe for most of the past 40 years. He has also been a missionary pastor in Congo (Kinshasa) with the Baptist Missionary Society. Presently, he is a partner evangelist with the Next Generation Alliance, a ministry of the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association. Thomas has ministered in 59 countries, holding evangelistic missions and training seminars in English, French, and Spanish, and has seen thousands come to Christ.

Dr. Radu Gheorghita is associate professor of Biblical studies at MBTS. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Cluj, an M.Div. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge. Gheorghita came to MBTS from Emmanuel Bible Institute in Oradea, Romania. He continues to travel to Romania on a regular basis to teach in the master's program at the University of Bucharest. He also initiated a series of biannual theological conferences for the pastors and lay leaders in the Baptist churches there. Gheorghita's field of research is Septuagint studies and the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament. He is passionate about book-by-book memorization of the Scriptures, especially in the original languages.

Dr. R. Michael Landry is senior pastor of Sarasota Baptist Church in Sarasota, Fla., and currently serves as chairman of the MBTS Board of Trustees. Prior to his arrival at Sarasota, Landry was the director of evangelism and church growth at the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio. He holds a D.Min. degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, an M.Div. degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.S. degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech University. Landry was first vice president of the Florida Baptist Convention from 2004 to 2006 and has served on numerous planning committees and task forces for the Home Mission Board and North American Mission Board.

Dr. Robert A. Pearle is president of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention and pastor of Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Tex. Pearle attended Southern Bible College in Houston, Tex., earning his B.A. degree in Christian ministry in 1977. He also attained M.Div. and D.Min. degrees at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. Pearle has pastored churches of various sizes in Texas, Illinois, and Missouri. He sits on the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary President's Executive Advisory Council and served as the Texas trustee on the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1997 to 2006. Pearle has also been a visiting instructor in pastoral ministries at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Larry Cornine is associate professor of pastoral care and counseling at MBTS. He holds B.S., M.S., and Ed.S. degrees in education from the University of Central Missouri, an Ed.D. degree from the University of Kansas, an M.S. degree in clinical counseling from Liberty University, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Golden State University. His professional career includes 12 years in public education, teaching biology and human physiology and serving as a high school principal. Upon leaving public education, Cornine established Diakonos, a Christian counseling center in Independence, Mo., and was a consultant to three in-patient psychiatric centers in the greater Kansas City area. He retired from clinical practice in 2002. After 10 years as an adjunct professor at MBTS, Cornine was elected to the faculty in 2008. Along with his son, Dr. Chris Cornine, he has authored several counseling guides for pastors.
