From one of my sculptor idol. Here you'll learn how Joanna Mozdzen create a plaster push mold for masks. Imma gonna do the same but with polymer clay. Oh yeah, I manage to make my own super sculpey-like polymer clay from scratch. Good thing too, since polymer clay is hella expensive in Indonesia.

Many moons ago I streamed a speed sculpting challenge. The aim is getting a sculpt 'done' in a limited amount of time. So do excuse the lack of polish and details.

I choose a design by @psuedofolio of Cassandra Cain, as Batgirl, being bound in bondage gear. Cass's batgirl costume is already latex-riffic, add a ball gag to it and it's probably insta-nutted people with this kind of fetish.

It was a fun sculpt and I would love to do something like this again in the near future.

One of my New year resolution is getting a new video tutorial series of making a figure from scratch.

From conception to completion including finishing and painting. So, while that in production, I will upload old stream footage with added narration. I really do need the speaking practice.

The subject of this sculpt is Nika by Formaldehyde. I've sketch his design before and will be doing more in the future. He's just great. The colored art I reference is a fanart of Nika by Ian Samson. Follow these cool dudes for more art goodness.

The next video will be about sketching some batgirl in bondage. Stay tune for that if that's your thing.

It's 2018! Happy New Year!

I promised myself to rebuilt my online presence this year and that means more videos, blogs and social media stuff with the occasional commissions on the side. For that I present to you a video sculpt-through of me making a stylized anime head. With English narration to boot, which is kinda new territory on my end, so I apologize if I sounded weird. I'll be better in future videos. Hopefully.

Wow Photobucket! just wow. Their new policy is to not let any 3rd party site link to photos uploaded to it without paying $40 /mo. So now all the picture links looks like ass.

Tv Champion Figure making episode!

This video is interesting. It's from a Japanese TV show called TV Champion and the topic for this episode is making figures/models. It's dubbed in Thai with no English subtitle, but just watch it and you can learn a lot.
The most interesting part for me is one of the competitor was Ryu OYAMA whose book I got earlier this year. I consider him one of my favourite sculptor. Go have a watch.

Amethys Bust sculpture

I've been sculpting several gem portrait, from the oh so wonderful series Steven Universe, lately. Starting with Opal, Peridot, Jasper, Pearl and now Amethyst.

This piece was sculpted in paper clay and finished in acrylic. More pictures and a turnaround video after the break.
Here's a collage of the painting progression I did on Amethyst. The gem on her chest can be better. I should've never added black to make a darker shade of purple. It's just silly.

I learn that by using printer inks and acrylic medium you can adjust the temperature of the color pretty easily. Especially if you have an airbrush. My purple paint was too warm of a temperature to match Amethyst's cool complexion. So after spraying the base purple skintone, I sprayed a light mist of watered down cyan ink+acrylic medium. You can see it on the base of her neck.

This piece was fun to do. And fast too. The quality is more of a sketch, clocking at under 5 hours of work. Most of it was sanding. And I didn't even do a good job on that front. On to Lapis and Garnet.

Rachnera Arachnera bust-turnaround

I sculpt this bust of Rachnera Arachnera from Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou as a request from a frind. It turned out quite nice. Sculpted in paperclay and finished in acrylic.
I skip adding the frilly details on her costume though. And this sculpt can be expanded to be a full body sculpt of Rachnera. I've always wanted to sculpt a full spider girl. We'll see if that can be done.

Peridot Mini Bust

I sculpted this Peridot mini bust using paper clay with an epoxy core.
Below is a step-by-step progression of the sculpt.

Since I used paper clay, I need to dry the sculpt after each step. For that I used a toaster oven. After I finished and happy with the face, I sanded it smooth before adding the hair and other details. The finished sculpt was then sealed using sanding sealer. Sanding sealer is great because you can sand it more to get an even smoother surface. You can find sanding sealer in the wood work or carpentry section in your local hardware store. It's cheap and gets the job done.

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures while painting the sculpt. Maybe next time. The sculpt was painted using acrylic paint by airbrush and hand brushing.

The visor was made using a piece of plastic heated and shaped while warm. It takes a lot of trial and error, and it still doesn't look right even now. Oh well, maybe next time.
