We're becoming increasingly aware of the impact that our actions have on the environment and our quality of life, but sadly while many of our homes and buildings are being built and modernized to be greener, many of our children's schools continue to waste energy and contain materials that are toxic to kids health. In fact most schools spend more on electricity bills than on books and computers.

In 1985, Bernhard Langer was the No.1 golfer in the world, after winning seven tournaments on five continents, including the U.S. Masters. The Shadow of Pain

Shadows are always there. The shadow of pain is like your shadow. Sometimes it is small and hard to find and then at other times it is a giant as tall as a tree. It is a constant companion that accompanies you. If you go fast it is just as fast. If you go slow it is slow. When you stop it stops. It matches you. When you are in the deepest valley your shadow is there. When at the heights of the highest mountain it is there also.

I never thought that the pain would shadow you. I would expect the pain would be there when I am low and downcast. I would expect it on birthdays, holidays, and death days. But not on the good days. The happy days. The fun days. The shadow is always there.

I remember when I first realized my shadow was always there. It was a revelation really. It was more than two years after James. I was teaching. This would almost seem insignificant except for the profound revelation that was revealed in this small event in time. The soccer team was going to the state finals. This is a major achievement for any team. And our school would celebrate the send off. The marching band assembled. They sounded a fighting song. The entire school of students, teachers and parents blanketed the parking lot at the front. The charter bus of the soccer team pulled into the driving lane. The cheers went up. There is excitement. Celebration. I was caught up in this moment. There was something so exciting and celebrative. There was a chemistry about this. Sometimes these things are just show and everyone is there because they are there. But not this. The majority were into it. There was elation in this moment. Drew Scism and his mother are close by. I am very aware of his presence. At the highest point of elation and celebration, the shadow of pain is there. I didn’t recognize the shadow. But afterwards, as I am walking quickly ahead of the mass of students and hurrying to my class, I am choking down the tears. I am searching to control the emotion. I could not understand why the shadow would be there. And the revelation is revealed that the shadow never leaves. Never and always. It is a sting that stung when unexpected. I was unguarded because I did not know that the shadow could sting in a good moment. And the sting stung and the shadow shadowed in a bright moment. And I knew and know that the shadow can be large in the brightest of moments.

Shadows are a place to hide. Sometimes I hide in my shadow of pain. There is a comfort there. A place to lose myself. The shadow draws me in and I can escape away from everything. I do not know if it is healthy or right but the shadow is inviting and I get lost in the shadow of pain. It does allow for me to deal with the pain and suffering. The suffering that was witnessed is great and needs to be dealt with. The shadows allow for this. But it is selfish and I think of no one else. Reality brings me back.

There is a light to cast away shadows. The darkness of the shadow of pain can be dark and consuming but the light casts away the shadows. And I do not have to hide in the shadows for comfort. I learn to love the light. I learn to walk in the light. The shadow is always there looming to darken my thoughts and mind and heart but the light can always be found. Jesus is the light that shines and casts away the shadows. But some times I get lost and I forget the light and then I remember and run to the light that shines and I am rescued and can see clearly. God gives this. And I love that rescue is provided to help bring me out of dark moments.

There is coming a time when the shadow will be cast away. The light will be so great that all shadows are gone. There is coming a time when there will be no more darkness, no more shadows. True light casts away all darkness, all shadows. Separation no longer and forever in the true light.

I look forward to this. But until then I have to walk with the shadow of pain as it matches me and follows me. And I walk not alone but with the light that shines.

Get To Know God Better

You're on the adventure of a lifetime when you pursue a greater knowledge of God. What you've learned about God so far should give you a hunger to know Him even more. You must never be satisfied with what you know about Him already. Here are four practical benefits of knowing God:

1) Blessing. The more you know God and obey His will, the more you'll experience His blessings. 'If you obey all the decrees and commands I am giving you today, all will be well with you and your children… ' (Deuteronomy 4:40)

2) Peace. 'Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God… ' (2 Peter 1:2 ). The more you know God, the more at peace you'll be. Yes, struggles and setbacks will come, but even then you'll have a sense of wellbeing because you'll feel His nearness

3) Wisdom. Paul prayed that God would give the Ephesians 'a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him' (Ephesians 1:17). Wisdom is seeing things the right way. Revelation is when God bypasses the limitations of your mind and shows you things you otherwise wouldn't know. Instead of finding a solution to life's problems every now and then, you can walk each day in a 'spirit of wisdom and of revelation.

4) Freedom. 'when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods' (Galatians 4:8). Without the confidence that comes from knowing God, and your standing before Him, you become a slave to circumstances, emotions, or other people's opinions. Refuse to live that way. Instead, get to know God better.

In troubled times, remember God's plans for your life

When your world is suddenly turned upside down, remember, God's plans for your life haven't been cancelled! When you feel trapped with no way out, here are some things to remember:

1) Look for the river. 'There is a river whose streams make glad… ' (Psalm 46:4 NIV). In Old Testament symbolism, rivers represent God's supply for your every need. When every human source of supply seems to have dried up, don't fear, look for the river.

2) Look for the city. God has planted His 'city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells' (Psalm 46:4 NIV), right in the middle of your circumstances. God's city, the symbol of His presence and power, guarantees He's still in control and that He will restore peace and order to your troubled world.

3) Look for the signs of God's presence. 'God will help [you] at break of day' (Psalm 46:5 NIV). Daybreak, a symbol of new beginnings, gives you confidence that beyond this time of trouble and testing, a new day is at hand. 'Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning' (Lamentations 3:23 NLT).

4) 'Come… see the works of the Lord… ' (Psalm 46:8 NIV). Reviewing the record of His mighty acts builds your faith and reminds you that He is the 'same yesterday and today and forever' (Hebrews 13:8 NIV). If He took care of you then, He will take care of you now.

5) Look to God and be at peace. Based on the tested and proven foundation of His power and faithfulness, you can live by the Scripture, 'Be still, and know that I am God… ' (Psalm 46:10 NIV).

The Bible is a 'David and Goliath' book. It's filled with stories of ordinary people whose faith overcame great obstacles and impacted the world around them. That's why John the Apostle writes: "Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith" (1 John 5:4 ).

If you haven't heard of Irwin Rosenberg, here's his he was discharged from the Navy when he was diagnosed with cancer. That was the standard military procedure at the time. But he was determined to get back both his health and his job. At one point he was given only two weeks to live. But with faith and dogged determination he battled his cancer and eventually brought it under control. Irwin then focused his attention on becoming a naval officer again. But he discovered that navy regulations forbade reinstatement of a person discharged with cancer. Everyone around him said, "Give up. It can't be done. It would take an >Act of Congress to get you reinstated." Their advice gave him an idea - he'd pursue an Act of Congress. After years of waiting, petitioning, cutting through red tape and battling bureaucracy, President Truman eventually signed into law a special bill that allowed Irwin Rosenberg to reenlist in the Navy - and go on to become a Rear Admiral in the United States Seventh Fleet

The poet writes: "You can never tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems afar; so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - it's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit!"

Two Lessons You Learn Only In Life's Storms

Why are you so fearful? --Mark 4:40

Gospel of Mark we read: '… He said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side'… And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, 'Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?' Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace, be still!' And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, 'Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?' And they… said to one another, 'Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" (Mark 4:35-41 NKJV).

Here are two lessons you learn only in life's storms:

1) You must trust what God has told you. When Jesus said, 'Let us cross over to the other side' there wasn't a big enough wave to take them under, no matter how threatening. What has God promised you? Standing on that won't keep you from getting scared or soaked, but it'll keep you from sinking.

2) You must remind yourself who's in the boat with you. If the Lord can calm a storm, He can prevent one. So when He permits you to go through storms it's to show you that you don't have a problem He can't solve; that you may be powerless in the situation but He's not; and that through this experience you'll come to know Him in a way you have never known Him before. So learn these lessons well and come out stronger on the other side.

The WeUsed2bu ministry team is currently looking to expand out reach! We plan to begin marketing extensively to area churches, social services and centers, and commercial businesses that might be willing to let us post and distribute our materials at their locations. We want to see our information in the hands of as many young women and girls as the Lord will allow, so that they can utilize our services. Our ultimate goal is that they would know the Lord, and grow in their relationship with Him, and we are committed to that vision and purpose.

In order for this ministry to be successful, we are actively seeking volunteer counselors and contributing writers to join the team. These would be women who are willing to commit their time, talents, and spiritual gifts in service to the Lord and to the young women who visit the site. We need counselors to answer anonymous questions that come in from our readers and writers who want to share their godly insight on issues that pertain to Christian living. Each position requires a minimum monthly commitment, a high level of personal accountability, and a heart to help young women struggling with the difficulties of life in the current state of the world.

That doesn’t just mean locally; the site is being accessed all over the globe. It’s exciting to see how the Lord can use WeUsed2bu in that way, but we especially want to be a benefit to our local area, where we know that there is an untold number of young women who are in need of God’s hand in their lives.

As the world observed the Holy Week with a long weekend, families can reflect and bond together at Bantayan Island in Cebu. Bantayan Island is a perfect getaway during the Christian Holy Week. You can combine a holiday relaxing on the fine white sands of the beaches here, while enjoying small town life and the traditional religious celebrations of this period. Bantayan is Cebu’s oldest parish, and demonstrates its faith in a solemn carroza (carriage) procession. The carriages are elaborately decorated and illuminated, and carry life-sized images of biblical characters that played a part in the passion and death of Christ.

Gifts from Good Samaritans

Last Sunday a gift giving was held in our Church, good Samaritans from South Valley Community Church in USA sent toys and useful stuffs for our Sunday schoolers.

Inside the box, we got this picture showing the church volunteers while packing the gifts with a note that says, "God has put love in our hearts to do this box for you. We care for you and wish to bring God's love to you through these gifts. Remember-God loves you and so do we!"

Live life to the fullest

Today is March 9, at 3:00 this afternoon it’s exactly 7 years since i’ve escaped death from a car accident. From march 2002 and until now i have to deal everyday on the emotional pain, physical difficulties and depression brought about by this accident. I was deprived with so many things and opportunities because of what happened to me. That’s because i’m now partially disabled, struggling everyday to bear the physical pain caused by wearing prosthesis leg.

But in spite of the hardships and trials that came my way i’m still thankful to God for giving me another chance to live. Another chance to be with my kids, to grow old with them, to enjoy and cherish every moments with them, and to be their guide and comfort every single day.

As i ponder on the death of Francis Magalona who died at 44 and when i almost died at the age of 31, am i right to think that life is indeed too short? That any moment we could all die in a way that we do not know. Francis was diagnosed with leukemia just 7 or 8 months ago, i was on my way home after work when the fatal accident happened. Death strikes anytime, anywhere, in any way, so every moment of our lives, every single day isn’t it right to live life to the fullest?

The Father's Heart

A Valentine message from Martha Noebel a CBN Staff Writer.

I would like to take a few moments to share with you about your Father's heart toward you. Yes, I am referring to your Heavenly Father.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, NIV).

That's a lot of love. God loves us so much. The sins of this world have lead us to places we should not be going, doing things we should not be doing, and encouraging us to say things we should not be saying. But God's love is so great that no matter what the sin, He sent His son to die for us so that we can be forgiven and made whole. Someone had to pay the price; blood had to be given as a sacrifice. God sent Jesus, the only sinless one, to be the payment for our sins. He did this by giving His life as a ransom for our sins.

We have seen great fathers in this world. The story of the father who pushed, pulled, and carried his son through a triathlon is a great example. He swam 2.5 miles, cycled 125 miles through hot lava fields, and concluded by running 26.2 miles with his son. You see, he loved his handicapped son so much. His son's dream was to be in this contest. The father's heart was to meet that need for and with his son. No, they were not in first place or even second place, but they did finish just under the deadline. The father ran the race with the son.

Our Heavenly Father is running the race with us. We are all in a race. If we have asked Jesus, God's Son, into our hearts and to forgive us our sins, then we are pressing on to win the prize.

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14).

God's heart is so big for us. His love is so awesome. He wants only what is best for us. Perhaps this Valentine's Day we can think of not only the ones that love us here, but also of the Father in heaven that has a very big heart for us. He cares, wants us to be healed, cleansed from our sins, in right relationship with Him and others around us, and on our way to heaven. He has a wonderful place for us to go.

I pray that you can feel His heart of love for you today -- the heart of a true loving, gentle, and kind Father.

The Power of Music

A college student was troubled by sinful thoughts. Even though he regularly read his Bible and prayed, he continued to struggle, so he sought help from a Christian counselor.

"What kind of music do you listen to?" asked the counselor. The student aid it was secular rock. The counselor then commented, "Think of your mind as a big sheet of paper. Each song you hear is a match burning the edges. You ask God to heal the burn, and He begins applying the salve of His Word. But you keep adding matches. Listen to Christian music and see what happens." The student did, and the truth set to music began to heal his mind.

This is indeed very true in my life, there are times when i feel weak especially during difficult times i would always listen to gospel music. Christian songs always lift my spirit up and bring healing to my soul.

So never underestimate the music's power. It can neither hinder the Spirit's work or increase your love for Christ.
