ART TAKES MIAMI

2012-09-15T08:04:00.002-07:00

Hi everyone! I have many pieces that needs to be posted. I will go into detail of each one in a bit, but here are the finished and new pieces above.
I am currently on Artistwanted.com, a new art site. Artists Wanted is a collaborative project between several New York City artists and creative organizations working to build new lasting opportunities for emerging talent. We have experienced first hand the difficulties in breaking into the professional art world and it is our mission to make this process more welcoming, dynamic and open-ended. here I have entered one of the counties biggest competition which is the Art takes Miami event. This is probably the biggest opportunity for a small town artist like me. The artists, the curators. It is the biggest thing that could happen.

I would like anyone who comes across this site to take a moment to check out this site, maybe join, and collect people like me who want a chance to make it big.
To me, this will be a life altering, earth chattering event if I have the chance to be part of it.

please collect me on here and help artists like me reach their life long goal.

New pieces

2012-06-03T19:09:00.001-07:00

I just wanted to share this process right now, mostly because I just got a new camera that takes good quality pictures.
Here is my new-ish one. I made the original piece a year back, but never really though it was complete. So I figured out what the piece needed. I used spray paint, permanent markers, pens, color pencils and nail polish on this piece. It is very much a crazy piece, but I had a crazy idea and ran with it.

thank you for looking! Don't forget to subscribe and comment if you have any questions :)

Its been a while since I posted. But I have been working on some awesome art for the whole year. These are only 10% of what I have. This collection of art is inspired by my time in Damascus, Syria and the what I have observed as a woman in the Muslim Religion. Please check me out here http://yasmeenalkordi.artistswanted.org/atts2012

to check out the competition I have entered and maybe "collect me".

Thank you guys!

New art coming soon!!!

Have a nice day from Mighty Truth!

Daily insparation :

2011-06-22T15:16:00.000-07:00

I recently stumbled on to this in my desperate attempt to get inspired for some new art. So, I found this video on TED.com (which I am now addicted to). I like the connection that was made through each of these projects Aaron Koblin has made. I hope it inspires you as much as it did to me!

New Project !

2011-06-13T13:18:00.000-07:00

This project came as an epiphany.
Me and my family love to drink Mike's hard lemonade (my favorite is the Black-cherry lemonade, yum!). I like the glass bottles, and I was hesitant on throwing away glass bottles.
I started cleaning and saving some of the bottles in my basement. The next day I found some recycled paper and brown paper bags. That's when it hit me to incorporate the glass bottles into my art. So far I only have three made, However, I have approximately 19 empty glass bottles. The bottles above are a test drive right now, but I am working on making a large scale art piece out of recycled glass bottles. If you would like donate some empty glass bottles that would be great! It does not matter what size they are as long as they are glass. Thank you for reading!!!

long, long, long break

MY NOTE BOOK: fruits and hearts.

2010-08-21T14:52:00.000-07:00

Hey guys! After scanning my art for my first assignment in my art college course (yay) I wanted to look at some fashion on look book dot com, all those awesome people inspire my wardrobe and art. Fricken love that site!
any who, I'm starting to post some of the experimental drawings I made in my composition notebook over the summer. These have the same theme as the previous one, which is; fruit of life.

I hope you guys subscribe and leave me a comment about anything, including what you think of this art.
till tomorrow, good day!

MY NOTE BOOK: the fruit of life.

2010-08-20T15:27:00.000-07:00

Hello guys, it's been a while since I actually posted anything up on here. But I just started college this Monday! . This whole week was PAINFUL. My classes are so far from each other, and getting a ride from my friend means waiting 5 hours after my classes are all done! all I can say is, they weren't lying about how difficult it is. But I met a lot of cool people and they have an awesome art program! it's amazing.

now that I up dated you on my life, here is my art.
I started this composition notebook turned sketchbook last year. I haven't drawn much in it until this year, and man; its loaded!. I carried around all through out my senior year and summer,I started jotting down the ideas that I randomly got. This one is very self explanatory. It's the fruit of life. I like adding allot of organic shapes and a variety of colors. It makes it look fun and optimistic. It has a seventies art album feel.

I hope you guys like this! I'll have much more up tomorrow. Till then all you need is love.

College time!

2010-08-15T18:31:00.000-07:00

Hey guys, I just got back form my orientation at my college. They were the longest, funnest, and overall most painful to my feet two days of my life! hope college is just as fun (minus the feet ache).

Before I left I worked on a new painting for a little bit. It's still in the works. And yet again the picture quality is horrid.

Hope u guys had just as awesome of a weekend as I had!

Those evil little things, those who don't see.

2010-08-12T15:25:00.000-07:00

I have finally finished my drawing! its a bit messy, but oh well. I like it, it's very different from the usual things I draw.

I wanted to address religion in this drawing. Being a Muslim for most of my life, I used to over hear my step-mother gossiping about a family friend's son; talking about the way he acted or the things that he did, how it's against the teachings of Islam, and that he should be ashamed. But to me that person didn't do anything wrong, he is living his life the way he saw fit for him. And he is gay. He is an amazing designer who designed my step-mother's wedding dress. He is the nicest person I have ever met. And despite his greatest efforts, the society he grew up in will not accept him fully for who he really is. I'm not saying I'm against Islam, or any religion for that fact. But the judgment of his character solely based on his sexuality is inexcusably cruel.

I take this moment to dedicate this to him and all the hardships he went through. He never gave up who he is. And that’s an inspiration.

I hope you guys like this drawing, and the story behind it.

Something different.

2010-08-12T11:59:00.000-07:00

I don't know how many people watch this show, hopefully a lot! I sent in an email for the casting of the new season of work of art on bravo tv. I really LOVE this show. At times its a little too obnoxious with the drama and the fighting, however it does seem like a great experience for an artist. It would be a wonderfully, amazing, life changing thing if they put me on the show. I really need something to challenge me, and inspire me to do bigger and better things. I also want the exposure to the art world. Although I love that there is an art scene where I live, in a small town in West Virginia, there isn't much diversity. So I really do hope they give me a chance. Cross my fingers! this would be a great time to find a four leafed clover.

Those evil little things.

2010-08-11T14:10:00.000-07:00

This is the new drawing that I'm working on. Its inspired by the 1960's the Grateful Dead posters, see a cycle? yep, I am in LOVE with these posters. They are so amazingly detailed, and completely out of this world imagery that I can't help but be inspired by it.
I'm still working on it, but I will have finished by tomorrow. I hope you guys like it so far! and don't forget to follow me on bloglovin or right here on blogspot.

I get high on life.

2010-08-09T16:07:00.000-07:00

I finally finished this drawing! it took a while. I wanted to put a lot of detail in it. As you can see it's really bad picture quality, but I'm gonna try to get a new camera, preferably a professional one.
I will hopefully have the drawing I'm working on up by tomorrow.
Till then, salute!

The rose of life.

2010-08-09T12:34:00.000-07:00

Hello again! I hope you guys had an awesome weekend! I had a great time hanging out with my friend Jesse yesterday, and watching Alexander Skarsgard's amazing body ( guilty as charged) .
However I have found the time to finish two of my drawing's yesterday. One of them my rose drawing that I posted earlier. I changed the drawing so I can add an Arabic phrase. It says "zehra-to al-haya" which means the rose of life. I LOVE roses, growing up in Syria I used to pick roses from the public park before going to school. Sounds like a cliche, but it's a true story. I was a cheesy kid.
Enjoy! and if you have any comments about these or have any request's PLEASE don't hesitate, comment and let me know!
I'll be making an etsy account today, I'll post that up with my second drawing later on today.
have an awesome, somewhat slow monday!

New one comin' up!

2010-08-08T16:57:00.000-07:00

I'm working on my new drawing right now, its gonna look way different from this picturet. So hopefully I'll have it done by tomorrow and my new drawing that I'm working on right now.
I hope you guys have a nice Sunday, I know I am! gonna watch some true blood, get me some Alexander Skarsgard.

I got me some new supplies!!!

2010-08-07T13:21:00.000-07:00

I decided it was about time i got some new art supplies. Most of the art supplies I had were at least a year old. And my sketchbooks on the other hand are ancient! one of them I bought in 9th grade, that was 4 years ago and I still haven't ran out of paper. However, I needed a fresh start with 2 enormous sketchbooks.

SHEZAAM!

These are larger in real life. Trust me.

This means I'm gonna have drawing's up the wazoo posted up on here. All I need now is a professional camera and I'm good to go.
If you have any suggestions to what type of camera that I should get that is both cheap and works great, please comment below, and I will send you one of my drawings! I don't know if that's exciting enough, so I'll throw in my Buddha key-chain that I bought today for good luck. ( it's really adorable).

getting higher.

2010-08-06T14:05:00.000-07:00

and closer look

Working on my new drawing. In case you were wondering, around the drawing there is some Arabic that says "men al-haya ahsel ala ertifak" which means; from life I get high.
oh! and the guy in the center is my older brother. I use him as my subject almost all the time. Mostly because his face just amuses me, and he's pretty much my best friend.

So enjoy this drawing, and hopefully I can get some comments, or subscriptions soon.

my fecal face drawing

2010-08-06T10:11:00.000-07:00

So on the website that I'm in love with, its called "fecal face", they have a drawing type contest every Friday called "Free Fridayz". So I finally made the deadline, and figured out how to send an entry (I think...).

Hopefully I get to win (cross fingers!)

Anyways, this weeks theme is little dogs. And the first thing that came to my mind is Snoop Dogg. Sadly these puppies didn't come out to be Snoop Doggies. At least in my eyes.
I hope you enjoy this.

The way we live.

2010-08-03T12:22:00.000-07:00

I got the idea for this drawing from an old The Grateful Dead poster that I saw in the 40th anniversary issue of the Rolling Stone.

I take life as its given to me, and I receive love when it comes my way.

the finished product of my painting.

2010-08-03T12:14:00.000-07:00

I posted the Salah Al-din painting about a week ago but it was not finished. So here is the finished product.

The picture quality is really bad, but I'm working on getting a professional camera soon.

hippies, 60's, and rock stars, oh my!

2010-07-31T17:19:00.000-07:00

yet again, I apologize for the horrible picture quality.

I drew this picture towards the end of the school year. I found this fortieth anniversary of the rolling stone magazine special. That wonderful magazine had everything that happened in the summer of love, 1967. I love that issue because I personally love everything that came from those hippie years (including my parents). The fashion was to die for, the music was eccentric and new, the art was evolving. It was the generation of revolution, and I wished I was part it.

This drawing is a dedication to that time.

new drawing

2010-07-29T16:58:00.000-07:00

this is my older brother Faris when he was I think 7? I'm pretty sure its around there, anyways! he's like twenty now, so watch out ladies! (and he still likes lions...)
In this drawing I wanted to show my brother in a goofy way, in Arabic around his head says "kul aam o inta saead" which the exact translation mean every year and your happy.

hopefully I'll have more work up here soon, and I'll have more people subscribe and see my art : )

NEW ART

2010-07-27T15:30:00.000-07:00

here's some of the stuff I've been working on this painting, its not done yet! but I will be soon
so here's a brief summery of what its about..........

this was taken with my cellphone camera....I don't have money for a new camera :'(

This was inspired by the story of Salah ad-Din, I heard the stories of how heroic he was, and the crusades. they said that the English and French were trying to take the holy land from the people of the land, but because of Salah ad-Din saved Jerusalem it was in the hands Palestinians until WWII changed everything. the things I always heard about the Israeli people populating the area were feared and hated, the people who lived in Israel were shown as some kind of evil beings.
on the the mans shawl it say " men sher al woswas khnas" which mean's from the evil and whispers of evil..

as an adult , I found the conflict was just fear of something different. from both sides.
