If the students aren’t motivated, even capable teachers may fail. Motivation comes from many sources: curiosity and ambition; parental expectations; the desire to get into a “good” college; inspiring or intimidating teachers; peer pressure. The unstated assumption of much school “reform” is that if students aren’t motivated, it’s mainly the fault of schools and teachers.”

- School ‘Reform’ and Student Motivation - Newsweek

Human Target is a great show.
It’s so ironic that someone is reading the Tipping Point in this article and there is no mention of the significance of many B&N’s closing. When large distribution systems begin failing, it’s a chain reaction. We’re reaching the tipping point to digital. The economics would say that you either charge 2-5x as much per book and sell a smaller number—or you hope like crazy that some unforeseen circumstance increases the demand.

In our current economic shift we’re seeing the public sector experience what the public felt two years ago. Similarly publishers will feel the pain in a couple years when they have much more limited traditional distribution.

Linda Ferrari - photographer

He’s an entrepreneur, he’s brilliant, and, hats off to him, he knows his market. Latter-day Saints have every right to speak, with full religious liberty, in the public square. I’m quite willing to work with Mormons on various issues, as citizens working for the common good.
One problem here is viewing a macro-economist or politician as a doctor in regard to the economy. A doctor works on a problem that is tangible and focused.
