During his recent stop through London for his Reebok Classics RealFlex Foot Locker Exclusive launch (May 8), HBTV had a chance to chop it up with Mike Posner at the Shoreditch House in East London. Shedding some light into his collaboration with Reebok Classics, Posner also offered some sentiments about his creative process in music and producing as well as his personal style. Aside from hitting up London for the launch and dropping in on the HBTV reel, Posner has been logging most of his time in the studio these days in preparation for his forthcoming album, Sky High which is expected to release Fall 2012.

Fuse caught up with Australian rapper Iggy Azalea backstage at Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, NJ, to chat about “killing it onstage,” to quote Fuse’s Esteban Serrano, as well as signing with T.I.’s Grand Hustle label. She even told us a secret: the release date for her upcoming EP, Glory. It’s out June 1, kids, and it features a collabo with Mike Posner called “Flash.” “It’s sexy,” says Iggy.

“He was like, ‘We have to do more songs together!’ He made the song so much crazier and… we both agree we have to make a video for it.” Good news.

“I just want to take baby steps,” Iggy says of her EP. “It’s a way for me to test the waters and see what people want to hear from me, so I don’t give you an album you hate.”

Fuse caught up with singer/rapper/producer Mike Posner right after his main stage set at Bamboozle, and the 24-year-old, who just two years ago was playing the festival’s small stage, told host Esteban Serrano how hip hop informed his style.

“I came up a hip hop kid so my whole thing was, ‘I’m going to say stuff a rapper would say, but I’m going to sing it,’” said Posner in the above video. “My first concert, my sister took me to see The Roots, Dead Prez and [Talib] Kweli. That’s the stuff I grew up on, so that’s the crux of my music. it might not seem like that from the outside, but it’s what I grew up on.”

The writer/producer has recently worked with rapper 2 Chainz and Justin Bieber (co-writing and co-producing the latter’s hit “Boyfriend“), but is staving off the pressure to release his upcoming second album Sky High. “In 30 years, no one’s going to remember if my album came out in June or October,” said Posner. “They’re going to remember if it’s fire or not. That’s what I’m more concerned with.”

Bamboozle 2012 Day 1: Mike Posner Kicks Off The Main Stage

By 3:30 P.M. the line to enter the Bamboozle Festival stretched widely across the boardwalk. As the 5 P.M. gate entrance approached, the festival goers grew impatient, waiting for their chance to storm the main stage for Mike Posner’s 5:25 performance.

As soon the gates opened, the crowds flocked to the main stage, the occasional group of kids stopping at booths to check out the festival merch.

The second Mike Posner took the stage, it seemed like a magnet drew the rest of the lingering crowd to his set.

Besides playing fan favorite “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” (minus Lil Wayne) and “Please Don’t Go,” Posner surprised the music hungry crowd with his own version of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.” While Adele’s version may be well over played on air, it seemed the crowd approved of Posner’s version.

Sweat dripping from his shaved head and ginger beard, Posner picked up a set of drum sticks to slam along to the Adele cover.

“Who’s ready to take this s**t up a notch?” he asked the pumping crowd. It seemed as if every Bamboozler watching his set was jumping up and down along with him. While the constant jumping and running across the stage might make it seem impossible to keep a steady voice, Posner’s voice didn’t stagger once.

As condom balloons floated through the air, Mike Posner ended his set with radio favorite “Cooler Than Me.” At times it seemed as if the crowd was louder than the thumping speakers spitting out Posner’s verses.

“I want to thank you so much for having me,” he bellowed to the crowd. “This has really been a dream come true.”

IT TAKES A LOT TO MAKE A CLASSIC

Classic. As a word, it conjures up all sorts of things: classic cars (yay), classic music (boo), classic civilizations (yay) and classic dance (boo).

Well, Mike Posner certainly knows what it takes to make a classic. Love it or loathe it, you know all the words to “Cooler Than Me” whether you like it or not. It’s a classic. And he produced it from his dorm room while juggling his studies for his degree too. But he did it. So if anyone can tell you that it takes a lot to make a classic, it’s Mike Posner.

Mike Posner’s busy preparing for the release of his new single “Top of The World” later this month, as well as becoming an ambassador for Reebok for the launch of their new Classic RealFlex.

It’s his determination and go get ‘em attitude that caught the eye of the classic shoe brand. Get a load of this: “Thursday I performed in Detroit. Friday I performed in Detroit. Saturday I performed at the University of Dayton. I came back and studied Sunday and Monday. I had three finals on Tuesday, and I had a show on Wednesday….Thursday I had like, a meeting with a professor, and Friday I had a meeting with Jay-Z.” Sounds like a lot of hard work and late nights on the Red Bull, huh?

Posner: I want to write for Adele

Mike Posner has revealed he’d like to produce a hit for Adele.

The ‘Cooler Than Me‘ singer – the official ambassador for Reebok’s Classic RealFlex range – has worked with top music artists such as Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne, but would like to add the British songstress to his list.

“I love Adele. It’s not a cool thing to say because she’s such a massive artist now, but I was a fan of her before she blew up this big, with ‘Hometown Glory‘ being my favourite song,” as he launched the new footwear collection exclusively at Foot Locker.

“I fancy doing a track with her. I would love to produce and write for her one day, and if it calls for it, I would jump my vocals on it.”

Mike said he’s a big fan of the British music scene.

“I love so much music that comes out here. I love Marina [And The Diamonds], Labrinth – he’s a great writer. I love Florence And The Machine, Tinie Tempah, Katy B, there are a lot of people that I’m loving,” he continued.

But the 24-year-old from Michigan, US, is just as thrilled with American stars.

“I’m a hip-hop guy at heart and I grew up a huge Nas fan so I would love to do something with Nas. I would also like to work with Young Jeezy, Paul Simon and Andre 3000,” he added.
