Moving a LinkedIn Recommendation from one company to another

How to move a LinkedIn Recommendation from one company/position listing to another within your online LinkedIn profile:

Over the last few years I have so far recieved 28 recommendations on my LinkedIn profile. I feel these are very valuable.

The problem I was having is that early on, before I really understood how LinkedIn worked, I had sent recommdation requests or somehow received recommendations UNDER THE WRONG COMPANY and position for which I was being recommended. This left a bit of a gap in my profile under the company/position where I should have had more recommendations listed.

I sent a request to update the recommendation to the correct company listing to someone (a former boss) who had recommended me but had been listed incorrectly. They responded saying they could edit the recommendation but couldn’t move the recommendation to a different company/position within my profile, but asked me to show them how.

So I proceeded to investigate through the LinkedIn Help screens, and quickly came across this post which shows how to move a LinkedIn Recommendation from one company/position to another within your online LinkedIn profile:

In summary, these are the steps you need to take to move a LinkedIn Recommendation from one company/position that you have worked at to another company/position:

Go to the company/position which has the recommendations listed incorrectly.
Copy the description to another document for later use.
Delete the company/position (don’t worry, you won’t lose all the good recommendations).
Re-add the company/position (and the detail for that position).
Go to your Profile (link in upper right corner of screen) -> Settings -> Manage Recommendations.
Scroll towards the bottom to Unassigned Recommendations (the screenshot below does not show the Unassigned Recommendations tab since I have no Unassigned Recommendations left at this point, but this is where you would see the link/tab to Unassigned Recommendations).
Re-assign one-by-one the now orphaned recommendations, being sure to now assign them to the correct company/position.
Check to be sure you have made all of your recommendations publicly visible (Profile -> Settings -> Manage Recommendations) and then checking the “show” box for each recommendation to make it visible within your public LinkedIn profile.

That did the trick…now my LinkedIn profile is cleaned up nicely, with all of my recommendations in the right place.

The Innkeeper at Bethlehem

This December 2011 was our first year to participate in the ‘Taste Of Christmas‘ event put on by First Baptist Church of Golden. With over 100 people participating, and with live animals for the manger, it was quite an event.

While I was playing the role of ‘Innkeeper’, standing at the door of his inn in Bethlehem greeting those coming to see the long awaited miracle in the manger (live nativity), I entertained the waiting folks with a few corny jokes I made up the night before:

We are so busy here with everyone coming to the town of Bethlehem, the City Of David, to the town of their origin to be counted for the census…that we have to put people in the stables! We used to be a FIVE star inn, the highest of ratings, but now that we put people in stables we are ONE star inn…BUT…it is the STAR OF BETHLEHEM! So you don’t-a mind so much, ehh?
We are-a a special kind of inn, known as a “Bed and Breakfast”. We give you a bed of hay to sleep on, and da bed bugs they eat-a you for breakfast!
Everyone wants to know, what would Jesus do (WWJD)? Well, I have seen him…and right-a now he just a baby, so he would sleep or he would cry…that’s what babies do, and that’s what-a Jesus would do (at least until he-a grow up a little).
How many shepherds does it take to sheer a sheep? Three. One-a to hold da razor, one-a to hold da sheep, and one to hold da razor. Ohhh, you notice I say razor twice, eh? Ahh…it was a dual edged blade
How many shepherds does it take to screw in a light bulb? I don’t a know…what is a “light bulb”?
How many wise men were there at the manger in Bethlehem? Most people day say tree, but I disagree. Let-a me recount them for you… there was-a Balthasar, Melchior, Gaspar, and Frank, the incense-itive one. Everyone-a forget about Frank, he was-a there…and he was a real gift!
How did the shepherds find the manger with baby Jesus? They used G.P.S., uv course. Gods Provided Sign. GPS is not a new technology, it’s been around for thousands of years.

In spite of my corny jokes and bad accent, I got a lot of smiles and thumbs-up from folks on the way out from the nativity, so I know they really enjoyed it and were blessed by being taken back in time to Bethlehem for just a little while. It’s a good reminder of the reason for the season and the great gift that we all received.

Up to our necks in Elk

Living up in the Rocky Mountains about another 2,000+ feet above Denver, we have deer around our house every day, and about maybe twice per month we have a local herd of elk that wander through our neighborhood.

The elk usually ‘come down’ from some place higher up in the mountains when the temperatures get below 40 degrees farenheit, but they probably don’t go too far away since they are a local herd known as the ‘Genesee Herd’ (Genesee is a community in the foothills of the rockies at about 7,500ft) this is always somewhere around Genesee.

The Genesee Herd is well over 100 elk…some estimates put it closer to 160-200 elk. It’s pretty impressive to see a herd this size on the hillside.

Last night was especially cool…well, it was about 23 degrees and a foot of fresh snow, but it was also cool like neat/nifty. When driving home around 8:30pm I noticed the herd had moved to the end of our street mixed among the houses. Just before going to bed at about 11pm I noticed out my bedroom window that the herd had moved into our yard. They often come through our yard, but many times it is very very early morning, or at night, so I don’t always see them.

Elk In Genesee

Last night I could see elk all over the place…but I didn’t have the best view from my bedroom window, especially since it was dark. So I decided to go down to the family room which is at ground level looking out the back of our house.

The elk were totally surrounding our house! Elk everywhere. I could see out from 3 sides of our house, and out every window were elk. And they were up CLOSE…munching on the grass just off of our back porch. You can hear them making noises, snorting, even breathing, and shaking their coats. A couple of them went head to head, and got on their hind legs to bout a bit.

After a few minutes, 3 different elk came up onto our back porch, prancing across it. They come up to about my height or even taller when you are at their same level, and weigh several hundred pounds, so it is amazing to be within just a few feet of scores of elk. And it’s amazing to think of how intertwined our lives are with theirs when you live up in the mountains. Like my brother said, who just moved here and saw the herd earlier in the day on the hillside, “it’s like being in National Geographic”.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures since it was very dark, and I didn’t want to scare them away. But I do have some photos from before that were taken during the day.

This morning while writing this I saw a bobcat skulking by (couple weeks ago he ate a squirrel in our yard)…somewhere within my 93,000 photos I have some bobcat pics…

I recently created a meetup group called “WordPress Help and Training” ( http://meetup.com/wordpresshelp ) which offers bi-weekly 1 hour long web conference hands-on WordPress training covering many useful topics, suitable for beginners thru intermediate WordPress users.

The last 15 minutes of each training session is reserved for interactive Q&A related to the current topic…worth the price of admission alone!
Another great value is the 1 hour training video made available to all who paid for the online training! (whether they actually attend the training or not)

There is no cost to join the WordPress Help and Training meetup group (participate in the discussion board), but each session will have a small cost covering time/resources (just sign up for the topics of interest to you).
