SkyMiles still using old Stapleton Int'l Airport for mileage credits

I recently got the following email from a regular MileCalc user:

I am a Delta flight attendant (flight Leader actually) who relies on your service before every trip ... the mileage is usually dead on with what's on the Delta paperwork handed to me. With one exception……DTW-DEN. You say 1223. My Paperwork says 1235. Could you by any chance be using the mileage to the old Stapleton Airport?

The distance between DTW and Denver International Airport (39° 51′ 42″ N, 104° 40′ 23″ W) is 1223 miles. The distance between DTW and Stapleton International Airport (39° 46′ 45.32″ N, 104° 52′ 54.62″ W), which closed almost twenty years ago, is 1235.

The Delta SkyMiles calculation is erroneously using the now-defunct airport. Is this good or bad for mile collectors? Well, that depends on the leg. Depending on the location of the airport you're flying to (or coming from), you may gain or lose up to 12 miles.

7,000 Bonus miles for new OnePass members with a Japan address

New Continental OnePass members can usually earn 2,000 bonus miles as enrolment bonus via this going offer. However, if you are a "resident of Japan", you can register via this link, valid until the end of March 2011, and then earn an additional 5,000 bonus miles after your complete a flight on a qualifying fare by March 31, 2011. Note: Per OnePass rules, "residency is defined by the address on the OnePass account".

For example, the Delta card offers two miles/dollar spent on Delta airfare... and it might be helpful if you could tick a box that allowed you to include those miles in the CPM computation.

What a fabulous idea! So, this feature has now been added to MileCalc. You can now include credit card miles in the cpm (cents-per-mile) and total miles calculations. Just enter the fare and the number of miles per $ that you earn, and MileCalc will take care of the rest. Enjoy!

Get ready to maximize your A|Club points!

Good news for A|Club members: We've added coverage of A|Club to PointMaven.com. So if you're an A|Club member, PointMaven.com will allow you to easily maximize your points the next time you need to book a hotel.

A|Club is Accor Hotels' one-year old loyalty program. Accor owns Novotel, Sofitel, Mercure and other brands, and is one of the largest hotel companies in the world.

How does it work? Pretty simple. After going to PointMaven.com, follow these three simple steps:

Step 1: Enter the city and country.

Step 2: Select A|Club

Step 3: Click "Find Promotions".

You will be presented with a map of all A|Club properties. Click on any property to find what promotions are currently running at that hotel. The darker the color, the more promotions are available.

Here an example of the search at Paris, France. Notice the PointMap control at the bottom right of the map. This will allow you to zoom into specific hotel chains. Notice that Adagio and Sofitel properties are currently running more promotions. You can click on the brand to select only properties from that chain (you can also select the drop-down menu just above the map).

Notice that one hotel - Sofitel Paris La Defence - has the darkest color, since it currently has the most promotions (4). You can hover over the PointMap control to get summary information.

Starwood's Night After Night Promotion

Starting Feb 18, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn 500 bonus points per night at all properties, and an addition 5,000 point after the 10th night (click here to register).

However, at a selected list of properties (about 300), you earn 1,000 bonus points per night. The list of properties is available here.

MileCalc Reflects Minimum Mileage Rules

With the exception of Delta SkyMiles and Northwest WorkPerks (to be merged soon), all major U.S.-based programs have changed their minimum earning rules. Elite members will still earn at least 500 miles per flight, but base-level members earn only actual miles (AA and CO will start enforcing the new policy in 2009).

MileCalc - the mileage calculator for frequent flyers - now supports these new earning rules. Just select the Airline, then your elite level, and MileCalc will automatically fill in the correct "Minimum Mileage per Leg" option. And remember - you can save those options for your next calculation.

30% More Points at Selected Days Inns

Days Inn are promoting their new "Business Place" rooms by offering 30% bonus points with the parent loyalty program, Wyndham Rewards.

There are currently 233 locations that offer the new style of room (out of about 1,800 properties).

With PointMaven, it is easy to spot these locations and get the extra points. Just enter the destination, select "Wyndham Rewards", and hit "Find Promotions". The properties with the additional bonus points will appear in a darker shade.

Continental Promotions on International Routes

In the following list, you must have a mailing address in the originating country to qualify for the bonus miles. Registration is required. In addition, note the valid booking classes as mentioned in the offer details.

15,000 Bonus Priority Club Points at Two Caribbean Resorts

From now until mid-December, the Holiday Inn Sunspree resorts at Montago and Aruba offer a fat 15,000 points bonus, in addition to a 40-60% discount.

Registration to the promotion is not required, but the points are not rewarded automatically. You will need to mention code 140-P at check-in, or bring along a printout of the promotion page. In addition, booking must be made directly with the hotel or with the IHG reservation center (either by phone or using the website). Points will be rewarded via a voucher.

An interesting promotion from goldpoints plus: Members who will complete 3 individual stays (a stay: one or more consecutive nights) between October 1 and December 31 will be able to redeem their points for up to four nights at half the rate during 2009.

Since this promotion effectively doubles the value of your points, taking advantage of this offer will be especially appealing for members with large amounts of points. Say you had enough points for two nights at Radisson Aruba (166,500). Stay 3 individual nights at any Country Inn and Suites (around $66/night, for a total of $200), and you will be able to redeem these same points for four nights. Given that Aruba nightly rates hover around $500, you effectively earn (or save, depending on your point-of-view) around $800. Nice!

It all started in January, when bmi offered 9,000 miles just for joining its frequent flyer program, Diamond Club. That's enough for a return flight within Europe. For example, a $12,000 event will earn you 4,000 Starwood points and 36,000 with Marriott or Priority Club. Given that you're usually not the one paying for the event, that's pretty nice.
