PRASAD Scheme-Things to know!

PRASAD stands for Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme in India. The focus is on development and beautification of the identified pilgrimage destinations.

Under the plan scheme ‘PRASAD’, the Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to State Governments/Union Territory Administrations, for various tourism projects subject to availability of funds, liquidation of pending utilization certificates and adherence to the scheme guidelines.

Under the PRASAD scheme thirteen sites have been identified for development, namely: Amritsar, Ajmer, Dwaraka, Mathura, Varanasi, Gaya, Puri, Amaravati, Kanchipuram, Vellankanni, Kedarnath, Kamakhya and Patna.

In pursuance to the Budget Announcements of 2014-15, the scheme was launched in January 2015. The projects sanctioned under the scheme are generally commissioned in 18 to 36 months.

Swadesh Darshan Scheme was introduced by the Cabinet ministry and Ministry of tourism in India to develop theme based tourism in India. With the help of this scheme, the tourists and visitors would get an opportunity to visit the specific tourist circuit in a single tour.

There are 13 tourist circuits that are proposed and started under the scheme. Under these 13 circuits, there are many cities and sites added for the visitors to get down there and enjoy their holiday.

When we say a tourist circuit, it means that a bunch of connected places can be visited at one go! An example of this is the famous Golden triangle which covers majorly three places namely Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. So under a specific tourists' circuit, there will be few renowned places that can be covered by a tourist in a single tour.

To beat the scorching sun of North India, families and couples are heading to cooler gateways to beat the heat. If you are planning a road trip this summer to Shimla, you can break it down to these four places and head to your final destination. The journey starts with Delhi and NCR regions:

1) Murthal ke Paranthe
Early morning drives are best to escape the heat and cover a good distance. It also means you got to fuel your body with nice breakfast. Murthal is an ideal breakfast place with lot of dhabas famous being Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba, Gulshan Dhaba etc. Just head onto any one of these and have Aloo ke Paranthe, Lassi and anything you feel like.

2) Chandigarh
The next on this route would be Chandigarh. The highway is just fantastic and you would reach in straight 3 hours barring any traffic! You could stay in Chandigarh overnight and drive to Shimla the next day or can reach Kasauli, stay and drive to Shimla the next day. Either ways, you can take your road ahead. In Chandigarh, you could visit Rock garden, Rose garden, Sukhna lake and enjoy mouth watering chaats there!

3) Halt at Parwanoo for Lunch:

The famous Timber trail resort Parwanoo is a must visit place for visitors. It is generally packed during breakfast and lunches for visitors going forward to Kasauli and Shimla.

4) Shimla

Shimla is approximately 80 Kms from Timber trail. Relax and head to scenic Shimla by evening.You could stay at Kasauli and drive to Shimla the other day or reach Shimla after halting at these spots.

Though Kerala in itself a destination which has picturesque views, serene and sublime backwaters, dense flora and coconut trees all through your way. But what makes the trip all the more memorable is a stay at a backwater resort which makes you feel and visualize everything about the God's own country,

We chose Punnamada Beach Resort which was an absolute bliss. The resort offered an insight into everything that Kerala is famous for:

Backwater boating: The serene backwaters of the lake spread far and wide at the edge of the resort giving it a real feel, You can sit there for hours and hours undisturbed watching the views and the boats and cruise that come by.

Kerala architecture: You can witness the traditional Kerala architecture with wooden furnishing and interesting door locks. The rooms are cozy and grand in their own style.

Activities at the hotel: A glimpse of everything Kerala has to offer to a wanderlust travel. The hotel had various activities planned to keep the guests engaged right from Coir making demonstration, hi tea followed by backwater boat ride to Bharatnatyam show. One cannot be bored during their stay at the resort.

Cycling, swimming and indoor games: Cycling in the resort made the morning all the more pleasant, Other activities you could indulge were swimming and indoor games for the family.

Checklist for traveling with a toddler!

A mother first before a traveler, I always keep handy a checklist of what's going in my baby's bag when we are planning for a short vacation. It saves a lot of time and also there are no last minute hiccups. Lets look at mine:

1) A toothbrush, tooth paste, small shower gel/baby soap, body lotion, shampoo, comb and baby powder if you use! (Bathing & brushing sorted)

2) Now, extra diapers, Sanitizer, polybags to dispose diapers, wipes and tissues, extra pair of clothes (two per day is good), handkerchiefs, bibs.

3) Some snacks/ fruits which your baby is fond of, chocolates (though it is not advisable but comes handy if baby gets cranky), mineral water, powder milk (That's my list, you could add on items depending on what your baby likes)

4) Medicine kit- Vomit, loose motions, stomach ache, fever, cold are some of the common medicines you need to take with you, other than that keep a picture of baby's prescriptions on your phone just in case you forgot anything.

5) A bowl, a mug, bottles, baby bottle cleaning brush, spoons to feed the baby anytime, anywhere. I usually carry a small tiffin and bottle as well if anything is left over, you can keep it. Also, an electric kettle sometimes depending on where you stay.

6) A blanket, socks, extra pair of shoes, mittens, coats, hats, swim wear. All this depends on which place you are heading to!

7) Toys which your baby likes the most. Lastly fill your phone with good learning offline videos which your baby likes. This surely helps and I believe everyone would agree on this one!

Rishikesh:

If you like water sports, then Rishikesh is a perfect destination for you. Rishikesh is a spiritual city and is famous as Home of Yoga and Water Adventure sports.

It is located at a confluence of River Ganga and Chandrabhaga. White water river rafting is the most popular adventure activity of the region and camping, rappelling, rock climbing, trekking are other attractions for adventure lovers.

Roopkund:

Roopkund is a mysterious glacial lake, situated at an altitude of 5029 m above sea level and located amidst Trishul and Nanda Ghunti peaks.

It is said that over 500 people were killed due to a hailstorm around the lake and skeletons of these people can be seen here. It is a must for people who love trekking.

Milam Glacier:

Milam Glacier is the largest glacier of Kumaon area covering an area of 37 square kilometres and is situated at the base of Mount Trishuli.

Trekking, sightseeing, waterfalls, forests, cliffs and panoramic views are the main attractions of the place. Munsiyari is the starting point of the Nanda Devi trek and the trip includes a visit to the Nanda Devi base camp followed up by a trip to Milam glacier.

Valley of Flowers:

Valley of Flowers as the name suggests is a botanists delight and will definitely enchant you. It is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

Trekking and camping near the Valley is most favorable in monsoon. More than 500 species of flowers and endangered animals like Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, brown bear and blue sheep inhabited this valley.

Having born and raised in Jaipur, I can talk day and night about its food, culture, royalty and just abut everything. Jaipur is a home of foodies be it street food, cafes, restaurants or fine dining. Each having its own uniqueness. Today, I'll share my favorite places where you can relish some mouth watering street food.

1) Pandit Pao Bhaji:
Located just outside Birla Temple, you will have a tough time identifying the asli (original) Pandit Pao Bhaji ka thela. Each one having the same name. You will surely love this street food for sure!

2) Lassiwala:
As soon as you enter M.I Road, you will find this precious gem. There are various duplicates at the same place. The shop with the maximum crowd is the real one! As old as 1944, this place is also a perfect breakfast place for localities throughout the year.

3) Rawat Kachori:
Located just opposite Polovictory Cinema, Station Road, Sindhi Camp, this place is heaven for Pyaaz ki Kachori (Onion Kachori) and Mawa kachori and other fresh sweeet dishes. Breakfast here is a must.

4) Gopalji Golgappe:
Gopalji is near Ahimsa circle-Outside, the same building as Mamu's Infusion. Its a small and clean kiosk. This one is loved by the old timers and is very popular. Also known as Gopalji from Ramniwas Bagh behind Kiran Cafe. They also have a all sorts of Chaat counter.
