What are the important health benefits of fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, in dogs and cats?

One of the key functions of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA is supporting the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response. Dogs and cats can suffer from numerous inflammatory conditions that can affect their health and well-being. Studies have shown supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids from fish supports dogs and cats with inflammatory conditions associated with the skin, joints, kidneys, and heart. Finally, essential fatty acid supplementation is known to maintain general skin and coat quality in dogs and cats. Consult your veterinarian to evaluate the total amount of omega-3 fatty acids your dog/puppy or cat/kitten should receive daily based on species, age, activity level, diet, life stage (growth/ reproduction and adult), and health condition of your pet.

Our thoughts:

We received our bottle of Pet Cod Liver several weeks ago. When the nice man in the brown truck delivered it, we couldn't keep our noses off the box, it smelled SO good!

You can add the appropriate amount, in our case it was 1 teaspoon, to your pets food or give it to them directly. Once mom opened the bottle we just couldn't wait to get ourselves a lick. So mom gave us a teaspoon full and it was delicious!!! I think we licked our lips for a good 10 minutes!

After a few weeks, Mom has noticed that my golden coat is looking nice and shiny and my itching has decreased quite a bit. Although we haven't seen the affects it has had on Maggie's joints, we are hopeful this will help with her inflammation.

Mom says she wishes the bottle came with a measured dropper to make it a little easier giving it to us directly but other than that we are giving this product a PAWS UP!!!

My Reward

Meet Squirrly....he's my reward for wearing the bunny ears. Take a good look at him because in a matter of minutes, hours or perhaps days he will be demolished and unrecognizable.

Maggie was rewarded as well, knotted ropes are her passion....silly dog.

She doesn't know what she's missing and I'm perfectly fine with that!

Nope. We each have our own "other" sister. I'm sure you've heard me mention them before. Mom always says we are two peas from the same pod.

This is my sister, Kailey....

I own her, but I let her think that she owns me, it works out quite well! We make a perfect pair, she will be an official teenager very soon and I (according to mom) act like a typical teenager.

This is Maggie with her sister, Jordyn....

Talk about double trouble! They both have the gift to gab and neither of them can ever be trusted! BOL!

Put us all together....

...and I think we make one balanced and perfect pack!

My Trip to the Vet....Twice

Well it was bound to happen, mom found a hot spot on me...

She said I had to go to the vets to get it shaved and cleaned up...it was going to be really quick.

Nooooooo!!!! I tried to protest but off to the vets I went.

After a quick shave, the vet sent me home with some medicine to make sure there is no infection. Thirty minutes after taking it, I woke mom up.

I just didn't feel right....mom turned the lights on and a whole bunch of HBO words flew outta her mouth.

That's right, I blew up like a blowfish! After making sure I was breathing alright, being the typical blogger, mom grabs the camera.

Really?!?!?!

Of course by this time the vets have closed and the nearest ER is 40 minutes away. So before I know it I had benadryl shoved down my throat and I was off on my 2nd trip to the vets!!!

And here I am planning my escape after feeling much better!

This place ain't so bad after all!!!

Meanwhile....

Maggie waited up for me til the wee hours of the morning. Actually, I think she was just wondering why she didn't get to go for a ride! BOL!

Today, I'm exhausted! Mom kept waking me up during the night to make sure I was ok.

She slept with a tiny flashlight under her pillow, guess it's better than that damn camera!

The one lesson I have learned through this whole ordeal:

There is no such thing as just a "quick trip to the vet".

And yes, I'll be milking this for allllll it's worth!

Maggie's Strange Addiction

You've seen the show, right....My Strange Addiction?! The tv series about people who have unusual addictions to drinking nail polish, eating cat food, sniffing moth balls, etc. Totally gross right?!

Well, I live with a real life addict....

That's right, my sister Maggie....this is her guilty face after she has fulfilled her addiction.

Addiction to what, you ask?

Tissues, but not just any tissues.....USED TISSUES!!!!

I know, I know go ahead and say it....

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here she is in action, she has this down to a science and thinks she has us all fooled!

Our Weekend Goodbye

We had a terrible encounter on one of our walks last summer with a person using a retractable leash on their tiny chihuahua. The Dog House That Once Was...

Today I thought I'd share with you the history of the dog house.

You know, the dog house that Dad built for me when I was just a pup.

Now if MTV had a show "Cribs for Dogs" this house would surely be featured!

From the top grade insulation to keep me warm in the winter and cool in the summer, to the air vents, to the stylish linoleum flooring and lets not forget about that sturdy roof and ever so helpful solar light. He has such high hopes for this house, perhaps a little front porch or even a sign with my name on it.

What dog wouldn't be happy with all those things???

This one!!!! Yup, that's me as an adorable pup!

Summer after summer....

Winter after winter....

It just sat there, no chance of ever be occupied.

Well, one day dad decided that he was going to sell it. So we took one last picture...

And within a couple of weeks it was sold. Off it went to it's new owners, only to be occupied by....

a bunch of clucking chickens!!!

That's right, the dog house that once was, is now a chicken coop!
