Deployment Is A Fact In Military Life

Deployment Time Decreased And Home/Recover Time Increased

Whilst the missions sent to Iraq and Afghanistan, usual deployment time has been 12 months. However in early 2007, when extra troops were sent to certain locations deployment time was forced to 15 months. That increased deployment time normalized again in august of 2007.

Study showed that more than 9 month of deployment time may start to affect negatively on soldiers and their families. Moreover it has been suggested to increase the rest or recovery time to 3 years – which will make a positive effect on mental health of soldiers and their families.

Army has agreed to, decrease the stress of wartime and deployment on soldiers, decrease the deployment time to 9 months.

Army has spotted the importance of rest & recover time for a soldier in deployment. Army is working and taking important measure to increase the rest time between active deployments up to 3 years. Recovery time will depend upon the type and demand of the service, for instance services like aviation, intelligence, signal and military police.

However, Rest and Recovery time should be set irrespective of the service and demands since every U.S soldier needs sufficient rest & recovery time. Moreover, researchers of Army’s mental health assessment team concluded that after a year of deployment, at least 2-3 years of rest & recovery time is required.

Recovery-Time To Deployment-Time Ratios

To fulfill the promise, Army is still working to increase the rest & recovery time to 2 years. Purple Heart Award Also For PTSD

Due to advancement in the field of technology and medical science, it was discovered in 2011 that concussion has very severe long-term effects on soldiers. So, giving Purple Heart Award to PTSD victims is a picky issue and depends upon obscurity. Though medical science has advanced, PTSD diagnosis is still doubted.

Military medical bureau believes that it will still require more than four years before the scientists invent such MRI technology which can detect and confirm PTSD in victims. Until then, it will remain uncertain if the soldiers really are victims of PTSD and deserve the Purple Heart award.

Due to missions in Afghanistan and Iraq there is an increase in PTSD victim soldiers returning to their homes. In order to take action, military medical bureau has set some guidelines to help identify PTSD victims and urge them to consult military counselors.
