Real Australians Say Welcome

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Sun, 17 May 2015 22:29:00 +0000

Adding my design to the #RealAustraliansSayWelcome campaign started by Peter Drew and shared by the Design Files.
As an immigrant, I came to Australia not knowing a word of English, and was welcomed with open arms. Aussies, don’t forget that second verse you never even knew of our national anthem: ‘For those who’ve come across the seas, We’ve boundless plains to share’
Share it on, and make your own designs and post with the hashtag #RealAustraliansSayWelcome

It was only a matter of time...

It was only a matter of time until this card happened. I just had to whittle down my surprisingly extensive list of hot dog puns.

A card a day #5 & #6

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Sun, 16 Nov 2014 05:18:00 +0000

I clearly forgot to post yesterday's cards up on the blog, so here's a big triple card post.
Yesterday I designed a Chanukah card. Why should xmas get all the love?

I soon got a special request to design a Festivus card. How could I refuse? Prepare for the Airing of Grievances! Bring on the Feats of Strength!
I was actually asked once, in all seriousness, whether Jews celebrate Festivus. Of course, I had to say Yes (Followed quickly by No). Here's a Festivus refresher, to remind us all of the history of this special holiday.

And today's card was inspired by that memorable xmas carol, called Fa La La La La La La La La.
That is the title, right? ;)

Whatever holiday you celebrate, hope this year's will be a joyful one.
Happy Sunday!

Little did I know how romantically inclined you all really are! The orders started coming as soon as I listed these and I've been so busy packing orders at Milk and Cookies HQ, that I forgot to even blog about them!

Tomorrow is the last day of the Etsy Christmas Pop-Up Shop in Sydney!!
I'm super excited that Milk and Cookies was selected to feature at the event.

Etsy has been running craft workshops, cocktail tastings, even free haircuts! Not to mention, showcasing some of Australia's best handmade designs. I'm very chuffed to be featured alongside so many kickass designers.
If you are in Sydney, tomorrow is your last chance to check it out, so get down to 74 Castlereagh St in the Sydney CBD.

If, like me, you are not in Sydney, you'll have to just drool over the pics by following the #etsypopup hashtag on instagram!

Holy moly! There are my 3 prints bottom right. Picture by @ichel09 on instagram

Sign Painters Trailer

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Thu, 28 Mar 2013 00:40:00 +0000

With the proliferation of printed signs, the trade of traditional sign painting has been dying out. I love the older painted signs... commercial graphics made by a craftsman's hand. This new doco about sign painters looks amazing!

Mega post

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Sun, 17 Feb 2013 05:46:00 +0000

Hello dear readers,

It's been so long between posts! Here's a quick round-up of what I've been up to.

My prints and cards are now stocked at Kids in Berlin in North Melbourne! I used to love visiting this shop when I lived in the neighbourhood (ah, memories!), it's awesome and surreal to see my prints in their front window!

Colour Box Pop Up Shop Launch night

I also participated in the Colour Box Studio Pop Up shop in Footscray just before Xmas!

The studio's director, Amie Batalibasi is an amazing ideas woman, and is doing great things at the studio! Each month she's converting it into a totally different space. The first month was the craft pop-up shop, the second month revolved around digital media, and next month will be fashion! There are workshops on every week relating to the theme of the month, exhibitions and happenings. It's an awesome new space in Melbourne.

I went to an amazing exhibition called "Sets for a Film I'll Never Make" by Daniel Agdag, a cardboard artist, stop-motion animator and all-round ridiculously talented individual who I met while studying at the VCA.

He creates fantastical and intricately detailed cardboard sculptures, using a surgical scalpel and glue, and surprisingly, no detailed plans or drawings!

Check out his website for more mind-blowing imagery.

I had a lovely, quiet New Years on the North Coast of New South Wales...

...where it was a slow news week!

And most recently, my illustration for Song Kong was Highly Commended in this year's Illustrators Australia Awards! Yay!

Featured on Bespoke + Bespoke calendar!

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Wed, 31 Oct 2012 03:54:00 +0000

The lovely Jess, who puts together the Bespoke zine has created a 2013 calendar, featuring the work of 12 Australian artists. Each month features an illustration of a lady, and I'm happy to say my illustration "The Chaperone" is Miss January! (That bear needs a Miss January sash)

The calendar was successfully crowd-funded and reached it's funding mark a few days ago! There's still 24 hours to donate on pozible, if you'd like a copy of the calendar for $15. After that, it will be sold at $20 + shipping.

Jess has been profiling the artists on Bespoke, and I was featured last week, so pop over to the blog to check it out.

2013 calendars are here!

Lady of Rock - 2013 Calendar - and my very small feet

A new year is almost upon us (whaaaaat?), and my 2013 calendars are here!

For the last 2 years I've made mini pocket calendars, and a few people had requested a larger size, so this year I thought I'd try something different.

I made three A3 size calendar posters, printed on a lovely, heavy recycled card stock. I was so excited when I got these back from the printers. The colours have turned out great!

Each of these calendars comes in a limited edition of 15. Yep! Once they're gone they won't be reprinted.

The designs are Lady of Rock (above), Bird Radio (below), and The Connoisseur (at the bottom).

What kind of calendars do you prefer? Larger wall calendars, or mini calendars for your desk?

Or perhaps just the calendar in your phone?

Song Kong

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Mon, 08 Oct 2012 01:47:00 +0000

Just wanted to share this fun project I recently finished - illustration, branding and business card design for Song Kong Music Supervision!

What is music supervision you ask? It's a film industry role, overseeing the music that's used in movies or TV shows. Awesome job, right? That calls for some awesome cards.

Debra was the loveliest client, and we went through a couple of concepts before selecting this happy, ukelele-twanging fella.

This Is Melbourne Exhibition

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Fri, 05 Oct 2012 04:53:00 +0000

I was recently invited to participate in a group exhibition called 'This is Melbourne', as part of the Fringe Festival.
It opened last week, and is on until October 13, so get down to The Bella Union bar in the Trades Hall to check out some art! There are some amazing illustrators involved, such as Shaun Tan, Andrea Innocent, Louise Kyriakou, and Laura Wood.

I think one of Melbourne's defining characteristics is its amazing music scene, so I illustrated Melbourne as a Lady of Rock. Damn right she is!
The Trades Hall is also one of the first venues I ever played in, as a wee teenager in a rock band. We supported Melbournian/Japanese punk band Mach Pelican, who modelled themselves on the Ramones. It was a hot, loud, black t-shirt heaven, and we loved it. A perfect venue to hang this piece in.

La La Land Cards

noreply@blogger.com (Tali) — Fri, 21 Sep 2012 05:12:00 +0000

I'm super excited to announce that Australian Card Company, La La Land, have just released two cards featuring my designs, Dip and Fat Batman!!
It was really fun working with the La La Land team, throwing around taglines that would go with these images.
You may start seeing these in selected gift shops around the country. I just saw them at my one of fave designy shops, Lulu, in St Kilda East!

To celebrate, I'm giving away this double card pack over on my facebook page, so head over there to enter this weekend.

You can buy these cards at La La Land, and of course, my original Dip and Fat Batman cards are also available at my etsy shop.
