There's no Milk n Kookies Show today, but, hopefully we get a more easier to predict schedule. Every other Saturday would be nice. :) Anyway, we have lots of different people wanting us to do the show from their area, and i have an interview i'm looking forward to doing. I can't believe no one has blogged since KIC was demolished and Koffee broke his arm cuz that big ball fell on it. Well, it's been a busy summer. Since then we had a new home provided by Murdock, but unfortunately we are no longer there. We got a new home at New Jericho, but we haven't build yet. LOL.. However, we have been requested to do the show at so many places that we will be okay for a bit. We had a great summer, and vacation from doing the show. The boys have been very busy with getting Metaradio up and running, but Saturday, the 18th of September, we had our first show since July! It was good to be back! And, seconds into the show, i was already giggling. Anyway, we hope you guys had a great summer and we hope to see you at the shows! :D

KIC Studio Demolished

This morning the KIC MNK location was demolished due to the sinking of KIC which is expected to fall into the sea this week. (Cursed global warning). Koffee suffered a broken arm after the large golden globe built by Aang Minotaur fell on top of him.

The long awaited Debut of Metaverse Radio is upon us soon. What is Metaverse Radio?

Metaverse Radio is a comprehensive Grid to Grid radio station that crosses the MMORPG Universe to include not just Second Life entertainment but other active virtual communities as well.

Imagine a station with hourly grid reports, interviews from leaders in their communities, live entertainment and the best dance and club music in the industry. This station will also include airing a variety of podcasts from the industry while providing LEGAL (Yes, paid for music, support the artists!)music to dance and party to.

Our website will become the facebook of the MMORPG entertainment community with a live calendar, blogs, bios and music samples. Opportunities to purchase copies of your favorite Artists music and singles.

Bad Kookies and Sour Milk

We have undergone some changes lately. As you know, we like to try new things with the show and our means of communicating to our audience. Sometimes ... Our ideas just don't work out so well for us.

Community Calendar FAILED

We attempted to create a calendar for the Second Life Kids Community, hoping that by opening it up to everyone to use, we could all have a universal means of seeing all the cool things going on in our community. The thought was all the clubs could use it and have a copy on their land, in malls, RP sims, etc. It was hopeful, but in the end it was too cumbersome to update on our own, the time zones weren't working well and it was terribly inaccurate. We have removed it from our site.

Hippo Groups FAILED

We created a hippo group that would let everyone join without taking up a group space. When we first signed up and started, this was working quite well until we realized the bloody thing was spamming your email when you were offline. Oops!

Twitter SAFE

The other day we created a Twitter account that anyone can follow http://www.twitter.com/mnkradio This is pretty cool because its lets spammy and more fun to update often with little microblogging. We are thinking we can use this as a way to share of events in the kids community as well. We can create a community wide Twitter exchange with all kinds of people and groups. Cool huh? Well, maybe ...

The story begins when young Stephen Sulaweyo, a boy living in the South African city of Durban falls into a coma while on the Net. His older sister Irene (nicknamed Renie) investigates what has happened and starts discovering strange goings-on in the Net, among them the constant reappearance of a mysterious golden city. With the help of her San technology student !Xabbu (pronounced with a clicking sound, as in the Xhosa language), Martine Desroubins, a French woman she meets over the net from the advice of her mentor Dr. Susan van Bleeck, and the last surviving technician who created Otherland, Singh, she breaks into the Otherland network to reach the city. KIC - KIDS INFORMATION CENTER

A project dedicated to the arts, music and culture of child avatars

Opening Celebrations: Friday, March 20 - Sunday March 22, 2009

Second Life's child avatar community is proud to announce the Kids Information Center (KIC).
KIC is a sim dedicated to the arts, music and culture of kid avatars. KIC is a noncommercial project designed, built and scripted by Second Life artists and mentors, who prefer to spend their time as virtual children or teenagers.

Trying to represent the diversity of the child avatar scene, the KIC sim features:

1) A learning area for new residents interested in kid avatar culture
2) A downtown "urban" area with a Live Radio Station
3) A village with exhibitions of kid avatar groups
4) A sandbox for everyone to build
5) A skatepark, playground, junkyard and underground tunnels to explore

Some Highlights of the sim:

The Adult-To-Kid-Transmogrifier: Step into this cardboard box, which will change your adult avatar into one of several kid avatars (girls and boys available). The avatars come complete with hair, skin, clothes and useful accessories. It is both fun and free. This is a great starting point for anyone who wants a “Second Childhood”.

The Milk N Kookies Radio Show HQ: In 2008, the Second Life community of child avatars tuned in to hear the first episode of The Milk N’ Kookies Show, a radio program broadcast for the young at heart. 50 episodes and a year later, the show has added an active web presence and a charity program designed to help disadvantaged real life children. The MnK headquarters features a new classroom constructed for our professional kids to share their knowledge and teach a new generation of DJs and radio hosts all the tricks of the trade. The second floor holds an extensive library of books, magazines and other literary tools allowing you to explore the realms of fantasy and adventure or even learn about the Second Life Community. Our reading circle is perfect for late night cuddles and tales of wonder spoken by our popular storytellers. Downstairs in the lobby, a listening booth is perched in the corner where you can sit with friends to catch up on old shows or view our active community calendar and even read the latest MNK blogs in world. The new Studio is designed to hold up to 60 audience members with a perfect line of sight. Together, we hope the new studio becomes an important teaching tool and a continued source of news and entertainment.

The Kidz Art Center: A huge building for exhibiting the many paintings and drawings kid avatars create. Our exhibitions will show the work of kid avatar artists such as Loki Elliot, Marianne McCann, Rai Fargis and many more.

Old Town: This part of the sim features the Temple of Kulture Kids, a group dedicated to exploring the cultural diversity of Second Life. Also featured in the Old Town are several German speaking kid avatar groups: Der Dachverband Deutscher Kindergruppen ("Organisation of German Speaking Kid Avatars") with several sub- groups for German speaking kids. The Tiger Scouts, a group of Second Life boy scouts. The exhibition: "Warum sind wir Kinder in SL?" (Why are we kids in SL?"). Last but not least, Old Town features the work of of KIC Mentors, some of them also Second Life Mentors with kid avatars who are helping new residents every day on the official Help Islands of Second Life.

The Second Life Children Learning Tree: This gigantic tree house shows various types of kid avatars (brats, explorers, fur cubs, heroes and many more), a collection of blogs and tutorials, freebie stuff and useful advice for being a child avatar in Second Life.

Other Places to Explore: The sim features a railcar and a raft for comfortable exploration. The Second Life Kids, one of the oldest child avatar groups in Second Life, display their work. Hidden underground are several tunnels, sewers and rooms to explore. A vast sandbox invites all kids and their friends to build and explore. Classes on building, scripting, DJ’ing, and producing radio shows will be held at the arena next to the sandbox.

Future project: The School of Roleplaying will be located in the Downtown Area of the sim, for all kids interested in the art of RP. Led by Undercity lead writer & head of roleplay, Tobiath Tendaze.

MNK Visits the K-Grid

Economy Rocks Sesame Street

Sunny days could not sweep the clouds away ... and now the good people behind the world's greatest children's show have announced they must regretfully cut their workforce by 20% -- 67 positions in total.

Updates from Linden Lab Policy

Linden Labs has decided to rezone its grid structure and keep overt sexual themes and graphic representations of sex away from the general population. Does this turn of events signal the end of the Second Life Kids community or does it usher in a new era of diversity with one grid that everyone can reside on peacefully? In many ways, Second Life is a giant 3D webspace. People click on regions they wish they visit (teleporting) and wander through the space for entertainment and information much like visiting any online website. The difference being when one visits a website on Disney characters, they generally aren't inundated with animated gifs of two furries humping each other using a walnut as a sexual prop. Welcome to Second Life.

Personally, I am quite happy that I don't need to see sex everytime I teleport to a store to pick up something innocent. Pixel Porn has no interest for me.

Announcing the Opening of a New Kid Geared Place

If you all listened to the Milk N Kookies show from Lions Den Gaming, we talked about gaming in general on SL. On Thursday, March 12, 2009, at 1:00pm a new place will be having it's official opening. Innovation Park Gaming, Run by Kids, for Kids, Gaming Hall opens it's doors. All of the games inside are Linden Labs Approved, they are games of skill, not gambling devices. The Opening Celebration starts at 1pm. Come on down and join in the fun, play, dance to the constant stream of DJs, and heck.. you may even win a few L$. Games range in price from L$1 to L$1000 per play and are a combination of Instant Win, Contest Board, and Timed Payout.

In case you were wondering, Second Life's economy isn't so bad

The unemployment level is the highest its been since the early 1980's but...CNN's SciTechBlog reports that it appears the economy of Second Life is actually pretty stable.

Second Life users can use real money as currency while playing the game. Users can buy and sell using the game's "Linden" currency (L$). It's Web site boasts that more than $100 million U.S. dollars of L$ were bought and sold in 2008.

That's right. One hundred million dollars.

CNN reports that the number of users with a positive monthly Linden flow has actually increased over the past six months.

A CNN.com "iReporter" interviewed Second Life users (presumably in Second Life itself) for the article, and one told him, "one dollar goes a lot farther in Second Life than real life."

One said she is trying to open an employment agency because, apparently, there are job openings on the virtual world.

The iReporter told CNN, "The economy continues to go down and rarely do we hear some positive news. Perhaps it is Second Life that is giving us that bit of hope."

Announcing the new Second Life Kids Recreation Area

To celebrate the official opening of the new SL Kids Recreation area, we're having a PARTY! Starting at 1pm, SLT DJ Mitch will start the party. Followed by DJ Lenny and DJ Tobi. Let's come out and celebrate this new area on Innovation Park. IM Lenny Lowensztark for a landmark. The area consists of a play area, pool, and a go-kart track. It's sure to be a LOT of fun.

EVENT - March 14, 2009

After you enjoy the Milk N Kookies show on Saturday, March 14, 2009, there will be an event sponsored by the Club Coalition. This event starts at about 3pm with a UNA Championship tournament at the lodge at Land of Jaxx and is followed by a KISS Tribute Concert. This group has been doing shows all over SL and they are now gonna rock us out in the Kids Community. So there's a full day of fun for kids on March 14. New cool place for kids

I've recently been Rollplaying at a sim dedicated to the Dune series by Frank Herbert. In fact a new faction has been started called the "Children of Dune". This faction is for child avatars to be able to join in on the fun. The sim owner, Vooper Werribee, has been very supportive of kids in his RP. A Boys Place Mall Transition

I have been a long time shopper and officer of A Boy Place Mall since the first iteration opened on a tiny parcel with a handful of small stores in 2007. After moving from Digix to Edisto, it seemed that founder, Aang Nakumara had finally settled on a full prim sim to keep his vision fulfilled. The mall itself has always appeared to be quite a success so I was taken back this weekend with the sudden announcement that Edisto would be removed and ABPM was essentially closing.

Turns out, the reality of the situation was far more upsetting than simple failure.

My longtime Second Life friend, Aang had underwent emergency surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage in December and is still in recovery. News arrived from his RL cousin on Friday who expected to see Aang over the weekend and pass along well wishes from his friends. All of us wish Aang a speedy and safe recovery during this difficult time in his life.

Several officers of the mall have created a group called "Save A Boys Place Mall" and efforts are well on the way of reviving it. Sources say that Geoff Alderson, founder of Tiger Animations, is absorbing the costs for a brand new sim and is working alongside of Tiger Macbain and Everest Piek to recreate Aangs work. Several former merchants have already signed on the dotted line to reopen at the new mall and others have expressed interest.

There is more to this story than just the transition of one sim to another. The true story lies with the efforts and actions of the group officers who truly lived up to what the officer tag in Second Life should bestow. From the very start of this, they have constantly and tirelessly worked to notify, assist and clarify to its merchants the progression of details and news as they were received. They were able to get details on refunds, maintained contact with Linden Labs to allow everyone a chance to recovery "no copy" items and are constantly responding to former merchants and customers looking for updates. Remember, these are nonpaid volunteers who are doing something rare ... The "Right Thing". Kudos to you all.
