Nothing makes me happier than seeing bright, beautiful bougainvillea blooming (not even trying to alliterate!) on the street. Luckily, Southern California is teaming with bougainvillea so lucky me. Isn't it weird when you see people who normally have some form of bang push their hair back and it's like, whoa that's what your face looks like?? It's like seeing someone you know who usually wears glasses step out with contact lenses. Totally different person! It's freeing yet terrifying at the same time.

Hi hello! Some photos from last week. After these photos were taken Grant and I went across the street and ate at our favorite Italian restaurant, Alessa! If you're in Orange County I highly recommend it (go to the one in Newport Beach off PCH, it's the best one!). Get the zucca (butternut squash ravioli) appetizer and maybe the penne norma? That's what I always get! It's penne in a tomato sauce with smoked mozzarella and eggplant and normally, I'm ambivalent at best about eggplant but this dish is unbelievable!

Counting down 'til The Great Gatsby on Friday. UGH I am so excited. It's one of my favorites and I love Baz Luhrmann's directing style. I remember seeing Moulin Rouge in middle school and being so bowled over. I might have to be one of -those- people who dress up...maybe I can convince Grant to slap on a bow tie?? We'll see...

San Pedro & Pomona

A few snaps from old town San Pedro! We went on a Friday and there was a Farmer's Market going on which was nice enough, everyone was out and about having lunch. We poked our heads into a few shops and passed by a theater that advertised it was used as a filming location for Mad Men (!). Of course there was plenty of pretty old tile, Spanish and penny, paving the streets. I love old tile

My friend John (who you might remember from this post ) had a grand opening party for his new shop MD Quality Goods, and amazing new space in Pomona! Ever time Grant and I visit I'm always so impressed by how well curated his selection of vintage Industrial/ Americana/ Machine Age stuff is. What an eye! And of course, his hand made tables are next level. Check out that triangle book case-totally swoon worthy, no? Anyway, we had a fun night and if anyone is reading this and in the Pomona/ Riverside/ Greater Los Angeles area, you should make an appointment to check out his stuff, you can tell him I sent ya :)

Hello! Here's a teeny peek into mine and Grant's place. I hope to one day do a home tour once I feel like each room is decorated nicely enough to warrant taking a picture of.

In these pictures, the only things not found at a thrift store, etsy, or given to us by friends or family members is the gray couch (from Macy's) and the TV (from Target). I was worried that throwing all of our finds together would make our place look like the inside of a thrift store. Luckily, a theme of sorts has emerged (a bit mid century, a dash of natural history, yellow) so that makes me happy.

Currently on the couch next to Grant watching Bizarre Food with Andrew Zimmern, AKA one of my favorite shows. Has anyone noticed how they they're trying to "cool" up his look lately? He used to strictly wear like teva sandals and hawaiian shirts and now he looks considerably more hip with his western snap front shirts and American Apparel hoodies. Get it, Andrew!

Speaking of TV, the both of us have hopped onto the Game of Thrones bandwagon...years late, I know. We blazed through the first two seasons in about a week and are currently caught up. Now we're sad that we have to wait 'til Sunday to watch :*(

And now to eat a few Trader Joe's vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies...with a glass of milk of course ;-)

Grant and I spent Easter Sunday hanging out in Temecula with Grant's mom which was lovely. We stuffed ourselves full of deviled eggs, bacony green beans, creamed corn, rosemary and fig pork roast and countless strawberry cream cheese cupcakes. After linner (lunch dinner), we took a scenic drive through Temecula Wine Country and explored a few of Grant's old hometown haunts, this meadow being one of them. A great end to a delicious and fun filled day.

So this is way ~edgier~ than I'm used to dressing, and never mind that I'm majorly channeling some MJ circa his 'Bad' days (this was unintentional), but you know what, this gettup was really comfortable so I'll probably swap out the shirt and roll with it.

Lately, I've taken to walking to a nearby farmers market Tuesday evenings which has been really nice. I'm still getting used to Long Beach and to be real, however lame this might sound, I am a suburbs girl through and through (two words: ample parking) but what I do love about this place is being able to walk to stores/ eateries/ markets that I normally would have had to drive to. So that's awesome. Another amazing thing is that I get to take PCH (Pacific Coast Highway to any non Californian's reading. It's a two lane "freeway" right along the coast) to work! I HATE driving on the real freeway so this is for sure a blessing. Yessuh!

A week or so ago, Grant and I met up with Ed and Deanna in HB and as per usual, we walked along the pier trying to soak up those last golden rays of California sunshine. Grant caught a break from taking my picture since Ed so nicely offered to take his place for the day--thanks Ed!

You know, I've been at it with the outfit posts for a few years now and it truly doesn't get any less awkward having your photo taken in public. Ugh.

In others news, Grant and I officially live in the LBC! People from Long Beach, is it dumb to use the term "the LBC"? Is it like people saying "The OC" for Orange County? Because you can quickly tell if someone isn't an Orange County loc by the fact that they think calling this place "the oc" is an okay thing to do. It's on par with using the term"Cali", it's an instant red flag to native ears.

PS: I tidied up the blog some. Switched it from a three column layout to a two and changed some fonts around and fiddled with a navigation bar. OH and I went all legitimate with a "www.milkteeths.com" address which just redirects to this blogspot. So far so good :)

For whatever reason, I'm on a major Red Hot Chili Peppers kick (why??). "By The Way" has been taking over my Spotify.

What do you dip Chicken Nuggets in?
Chicken nuggets were never my meal of choice so I didn't really grow up eating them (I'll take a flat cheeseburger with two pickles and rehydrated onions from from McDonald's any day of the week) but ever since dating Grant I have taken to dipping my nuggets (Wendy's or bust) in bbq sauce.

What movies could you watch over and over and still love?
I have a few: Forrest Gump, Almost Famous, Amelie, Zoolander and probably others that I cant think of.

Can you change the oil on a car?
I can definitely pay someone to do it for me.

Run out of gas?
This is like my #1 fear in life. The thought of running out of gas on the freeway gives me palpitations.

Favorite kind of sandwich?
A thanksgiving sandwich (turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing). If there was a restaurant or food truck that only made Thanksgiving food I would go every week.

Best thing to eat for breakfast?

I have a love/ hate relationship with breakfast. I will eat "breakfast food" but I'm never super excited about it. I'm not 100% convinced on eggs for that matter (scrambled, sunny side up, poached, over easy...) the texture creeps me out and I cant think about it too much while I'm eating. Brunch is my breakfast of choice.

What is your usual bedtime?
Midnight

Do you believe in ghosts?
YES. But I have never seen a ghost and hope to never encounter one. I LOVE ghost stories and hearing about paranormal stuff.

Do you take a vitamin daily?
I take two gummy vitamins a day.

Wear slippers?
HAAA. My mom and grandma are convinced that not wearing slippers equals a one way ticket to varicose veins. We have ceramic tile throughout the house. If I got a $1 every time I heard, "ASHLEY! SLIPPERS!!!!!!!!!!!" I would be a very rich lady. Grant is not above reprimand, he gets busted for not wearing slippers in the house too!

Wear a bath robe?
Looks like a good idea.

Hello! A round up of pieces that have caught my eye at the thrifts. To start off, here are a few pieces I bought for our place...

Found at the Salvation Army. $10. I KNOW, WHAT? It was even outside where I always assumed they keep the "undesirable" furniture. Swiped it up real quick. Now it lives in a sunny corner with a throw pillow on top of it.

Another Salvation Army find! I came across it on half off day, it was originally $88 (still cheap) and I got it for $44. I was looking for some type of credenza/ dresser thing to act as a TV stand so this will work perfectly. Eventually I'd like to sand it down and re-stain it because it's a little banged up around the edges but oh well. I cleaned it and rubbed some Old English on it so that will just have to do for now ;-) Grant and I will probably stuff all the drawers full with DVDs and board games.

I never wear green so I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and go all out with this vivid lime green cardigan from Grant's shop. Of course I had to pair it with navy blue (my safety color), but I really liked how the two colors looked together so hooray for that!

Me lately:

Been going to the chiropractor a few times a week. I've been experiencing weird back pain since early January which isn't normal for me. Turns out I have a slightly curved spine, military neck, and a leg that is significantly shorter than the other--HA! Geez louise. Hopefully I can get straightened out in the next few months.

I can more or less put my hair into a bun again which is a big deal for me. Long locks here I come! Related: late one night after trolling YouTube for "how to cut bangs" videos I felt confident enough to attempt a similar transformation for myself. Luckily things came out OK and I can still push my bangs to the side--whew!

FINALLY found Lady Gray tea at Target! I have been looking all over for it for close to a year and success was had about a week ago. Early Gray is my favorite tea flavor but sometimes it tastes a little too strong/ smokey for me. Lady Gray is a lot more citrusty/ lighter tasting and I am obsessed. Good ol' Twinnings to the rescue! (Currently drinking a cup and eating a King's Hawaiian roll...my kryptonite).

Did you know that I have a secret (not so secret) love for Poodles? It all started as a joke between me and Grant and overtime it blossomed into a (sort of) genuine love for the breed. Mainly, I like them because I think they are silly and funny. I don't look at a poodle and think, "My God, what a beautiful animal" or even find them particularly cute but nevertheless, I can't help but chuckle to myself when I see one trotting down the street.

So I've been thrifting like crazy, trying to find furniture for our place in Long Beach. For some reason I always thought finding furniture would be REALLY easy, like roll up to any old thrift store with a mini uhaul and go to town easy. Well, I was so wrong. So very wrong. I probably go thrifting 3x a week, usually after work and for a while pickings were beyond slim. Adding to this, I hate thrifting when it's dark outside. Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the "atmosphere" that most thrift stores offer. The strong aroma of an off brand air freshener (that seemingly every Goodwill in Orange County pipes from each air vent), the horrific fluorescent lighting, the inevitable temper tantrum/ bout of hysteria that befalls every child six years and under....I could go on. These aspects of a thrift store don't bother me so much in the day time. But at night? To me, these things become one hundred times more irritating. Nevertheless, our perseverance is paying off. We've been finding great mid century pieces (some for as low as $10!) so whenever we score that gives us the motivation to keep looking. I'll probably do a round up of things that I've found and bought for our place, so be on the look out for that. Fingers crossed we keep finding stuff. Newsflash: furnishing a home is expen$ive :*(
