It all started with a Christmas card..

Today is Monday. And usually on Mondays I - as any other normal person - go to work. But this week I'm on holidays (YAY!). At home... But that's not a bad thing considering the fact that all the Christmas presents I bought yet are 4 tubes of hands cream.
So what do I do in such emergency cases? (I should also mention the sad check of my bank account balance - 18,56 EUR) With a careless smile I open Photoshop and decide that it's time to start giving my "art" as gifts to people. I started with a Christmas-ish poster:

And then for some reason I drifted away to space references (Star Wars and video about globes making that I saw yesterday).

I always loved the pictures of different universes..

And negative looks quite cool as well!

I have seen this idea somewhere else before, but made my interpretation for practice sake.

So this is the result of my Monday's inspirations. Tomorrow I will march to printing services and get those badass posters on paper!

Star Wars at your home

Having all this buzz about new Star Wars movie which I must say was AMAZING, I thought it would be a perfect time to talk about decorating your home with bits of Jedi spirit. This could be a good resource for ones who have kids in their craze for the FORCE and space adventures yet seeks for adult-ish looks!
So, lets begin with the basics and some romance in the bathroom. Looking back to the fifth episode, where the love between princess Leia and Han Solo was finally admitted out loud, no one can forget how this was done: Leia admitting she loves Solo and him saying "I know" back to her. So, for celebrating this equal openness between those two, you can get towels like these from Think Geek:

That's a good reminder of men sensitivity to have every morning after shower!

Another cool gadget is a small BB-8 droid, made by JB Hi-Fi. It is fun to play with, looks good and can even be controlled by voice as well as show holograms recorded by you.

And if you are really up for solid investment, this is a must have:

But once I saw another photoshoped Balotelli picture, I decided that I need to focus on this attention freak who became the most popular player among the meme lovers.

After some time. Discoveries pt. 2

OK, not going to say how ashamed I am for leaving this blog without any posts, but from now on, one post per week is a promise! I have graduated eventually and will have some time for quality blogging and enjoining the summer with some street art projects hopefully. Will show everything here:) But for now, some sharing is caring time with new discoveries.

For a start, I would like to share works of two artists. I discovered Alexandra Valenti 3 weeks ago. To be precise, I saw one particular picture and it touched me.

It was something really needed at that time and so I shared it everywhere and now it's even set as my Facebook cover. And so, today I found something that reminded me of Alexandra. Its Sarah Burwash. And her collages.

I think it's obvious why I find a connection between them and this kind of pictures upgrade is my new favorite thing. Putting these works aside these artists are really different, Alexandra is a photographer with fashion prints, B&W in wilderness. Sarah is working as an illustrator, draws a lot and does videos, ceramics. Yet they both like water colors, old fashioned style in their art works that have a warm mystic blend.

Continuing with pictures, I randomly ran into this playful solution of handing many many bigger and smaller pictures in the toilet. This is how Zoe Johns and Max Catalano made it. I usually come across these picturious walls in restaurants and bars, but it looks great in home interiors too.

I have recently fallen in love with pattern prints on fabric. But it was only for a moment and I got back to good old fashioned web design dream with some other arts involved. Yet, I am fascinated by the colors and patterns on a rough textile. Like ones from Zac+Fox.

During the last few months I've noticed that I have a little crush on postcards and stationery in general. But about that.. another time :)

After some time. Discoveries. pt. 1

I know I haven't done much around here for quite some time (busy busy with studies and real projects), but tht doesn't mean I wasn't looking around searching for inspirational arty things. To catch up I will post all my discoveries (well, most of them, it's impossible to show everything beautiful I saw during these days).

By the way, to track me quicker, just follow me on Pinterest (there's a follow button on the up- right side too). I've started using it more few days ago. Bit afraid of possible problems because of Terms and Conditions that even The Window Seat wrote about, but will try my luck :)

Talking about birthdays.. The most adorable set of birthdayish things.. With this picture on the top:

It is so lovely that parents do all these nametags, bracelets etc. for their kid's 2nd birthday party! I wish my parents were graphic designers, yes please!

Next discovery was very simple yet charming and smelling of old news papers.These were State Mottos from Fifty and Fifty project. Some of my favorites:

With a little bit of chauvinism, american colors, but professional and precious for locals. Great way to get impression of what States are like.

Jumping from America to Europe, and more specifically, Austria, a product for posh fashionable environmentalists. Tam-ta-da-dam... PAPERNOMADS:

This product has recently won Red Dot Design Award: a recognition of their products to be among the best of the design industry worldwide. I should stress not only this papernomad itself, but a beautiful design of web page. So check it out.

It reminds me of this kind of global project, Creative Mornings. It can be called as TED "for the rest of us". Free, based on local community and creativity. It is a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types. Each event is free of charge, and includes a 20 minute talk, plus coffee. What can be better?

Coming back to crafts and DIYs, since I'm always fascinated by possibilities of paper, when I saw this geeky Valentine's card by ex-webdesigner Kate Lilley, it almost made cry.

On her web site she has many more cute crafts. Totally worth visiting..

Hmm.. What's next. Another must-share is also a paper DIY for presents. According to Ruffled Blog it's an idea from Hey Look. So I cheer for they creativity and share these lovely geometric faceted favor boxes:

Ooft. Feels like this post lasts for ever! So many things out there! I think I should make a part two tomorrow night or something. A last thing for now. It is just a snap shot of a outdoors area decor that moved me big time!

DIY: Fabric bracelets

Bracelets are one of my favorite accessory. They are simple, usually harder to loose than necklaces or ear-rings, can be very different and both stylish and not too fancy. It's even better, when you can make them by your self. And even more better, when you can call it a upcycling project!

And this is exactly what I've done on Saturday. So, would love to share it with others and here it goes..

1. What you will need is a bigger plastic bottle, some tape, glue, foil, white and colored fabric and of course scissors plus some imagination. For a start I tried just different fabric, nothing fancy.
2. I didn't add a photo of me cutting the bottle into those circles, but you get the idea.
3. Cut the bottle piece like it's shown, so you can fit it to your arm (make it proper width, but have in mind, that it will be wrapped in quite a bit, so the space for your hand to go through will shrink).
4. Use tape to set that proper width.
5. Then take some foil stripes and wrap around it. I used triple layer foil stripes, you can use even more, so that the bracelet would be not that loose.
6. Take some plain fabric and wrap it around to give a better shape and softness.
7. Get your fancy fabric stripes and wrap it on the bracelet in any way you want (looser or tighter). By the way, you might not want to see the messy sides of the fabric, so double in them.
8. Finally put some glue on the tip of the stripe and stick it inside.
9. And here you go, cute, ecoish, one of the kind bracelet!

Ok, so as always, during my daily check of favorites, I've discovered another amazing artist, who is making mechanical paper projects. His name is Rob Ives. He is a former primary school match and science teacher, self taught in mechanical from UK.

I must say, I have never seen anything like that. And probably will download some of his prepared kits to make things by myself. I find it extremely playful and probably one of the best possible gifts for a youngster, who makes paper planes.

The best part is that loads downloadable projects, kits, tutorials are available for only $14,95 or £9,95 per annum. So, find those scissors, glue and get on work! All infos here.

I was going through some new arty things on Apartment Therapy and found another amazing street art project by Max Zorn!

This and all the other portraits are created by using several layers or packing tape. This Dutch artist really knows how to tape things in a stunning way.

I wouldn't be as beautiful as it is without using the light from the back of the art pieces. By cutting and taping onto a piece of flexible Plexiglass, Zorn was able to clamp the artwork onto street lamps, which gave his portraits extra depth by illuminating through many layers of translucent tape.

You can check out more art pieces of Max on his website. And he's also inviting people to pimp street lights with his stickers, so if you are interested in helping to spread this cool idea around in your city, go here.

Discovery: Yuka Yamaguchi

I found this artist by accident, while looking for a creative illustration of a team power. What I've found first was this:

I admire its simplicity and playfulness. But behind this drawing I also found many many cosy drawings and strange looking useless toys for adult children, as she calls them. She has also done many illustrations for books and magazines, now selling postcards and posters of her works too.

Yuka is self-taught artist and that's the first thing I love about her. I have never enjoyed or payed attention to colored pencils as a tool to create the final art works, but this talented woman proved that magic can be created even with simple things and without over-weighting the drawing.

Beware!

Steps of how to create your own brushes instead of being boring and downloading them from the Internet:

1. Using anything you want (pastel, paper towels, coal, etc.) draw the wanted brush. The rougher paper the better.

2. Scan the brushes. In the highest quality possible.

3. If the paper is scanned in color, increase the intensity of black and white: Images → Adjustments → Levels

4. Choose one of the drawn brushes and go to Edit → Define Brush, name it.

And it's among the other brushes already!
