Millbrook-Named Australasia's Leading Golf Resort Once Again

Millbrook named New Zealand and Australasia’s leading golf resort for second year running

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort has been lauded as New Zealand and Australasia’s leading golf resort at an awards ceremony hailed as ‘the Oscars of the travel industry’.

The multi-award-winning resort has picked up many major accolades in recent months, including being named the ‘World’s Best Golf Resort’ by a prestigious Australian travel magazine in April, and winning this award for the second year in a row.

Millbrook won the latest prestigious titles at the World Travel Awards 2011 Asia & Australasia ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this week (Wednesday September 28).

After months of intense voting featuring more than 2,000 organisations, nominees across all divisions were whittled down to an elite few, including tourism heavy hitters such as Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Cathay Pacific, Mandarin Oriental, Qantas Airways and The Ritz Carlton.

Millbrook Director of Golf Brian Spicer said the award placed Millbrook among the elite golf resorts of the world and recognised its highest standards of course design and delivery, as well as Millbrook’s standing as one of the most scenic golf courses in the world.

“Our new 27-hole championship course with three interchangeable nines has been a huge success with visitors and locals alike,” he said.

“People come from all around the world to play at Millbrook and never cease to be amazed by the sheer beauty of the course, surrounded by the mountain ranges of The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, and the dramatic terrain that challenges all levels of players.

“Golfers have the option to play three separate ‘nines’, choosing from The Remarkables Nine, Coronet Nine and Arrow Nine or a differing combination of the three, where any two out of the three 'nines' can be played together.

“The awards reflect the fact that our recent multi-million-dollar investment in the golf course and its outstanding facilities, including our innovative covered driving range converted from a former woolshed, has been recognized by visitors who play some of the best courses around the world.”

Mr Spicer said Millbrook Resort offered some of the very best golfing in New Zealand, located alongside its multi-award-winning boutique hotel with a range of luxury accommodation, an award-winning day spa, conference venues, and range of restaurants.

Millbrook joins a prestigious list of Australasian winners of the World Travel Awards 2011 such as Air New Zealand, the French Polynesian resort of Bora Bora and Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park, all of whom now progress to the World Final in Doha, Qatar on November 29.

Votes are cast globally by industry professionals in over 1,000 different categories.

For further media information please contact:
Brian Spicer
Director of Golf
+64 3 441 7000 ext 7407
Brian.Spicer@millbrook.co.nz

More about Millbrook
Set in a natural, alpine amphitheatre against a backdrop of snow-capped mountain ranges on the outskirts of world-renowned tourism destination Queenstown, Millbrook was formerly a wheat farm with a 150-year history. It’s retained many heritage features including the original Millhouse, rustic buildings and a majestic avenue of trees.

Millbrook features five-star accommodation, world class dining, the Spa at Millbrook (ranked among the Top Ten in the World), a health and fitness centre, a championship 27-hole golf course, covered driving range, swimming pool, outdoor spa pools, tennis courts and several kilometres of biking and walking trails.

Millbrook’s numerous neighbourhoods range from Butel Villas to 2, 3 and 4 bedroom cottages and luxurious Fairway Homes.

Queenstown’s award-winning five-star Millbrook Resort has welcomed one of New Zealand’s finest hotel concierges to its staff as it reinforces its commitment to the highest possible guest experience.

Daniel Marsh, (35) a member of the prestigious Hotel Concierge Society Les Clefs d'Or New Zealand, brings more than 16 years’ industry experience to the Chief Concierge position.

Welcoming Mr Marsh to the team, hotel manager Brian Howie said the five-star resort was committed to enhancing the experience for every guest at the resort.

“For Millbrook, this appointment is about providing our guests with the services of an outstanding concierge who is one of only four in Queenstown to be part of the elite Les Clefs d’Or,” said Mr Howie.

Mr Marsh said the role of Chief Concierge at the luxury resort was a coveted one.

“Millbrook is a world class resort in a world class region. I feel privileged to join the team. Les Clefs d’Or concierges are renowned for going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their guests are looked after, and it’s my role to deliver Millbrook guests the very best Queenstown experience they could possibly have,” he said.

“There are well over a hundred ways to make your heart beat faster in Queenstown and I love the challenge of catering personal experiences for all our guests.”

Mr Marsh has been a member of the Hotel Concierge Society Les Clefs d'Or New Zealand since 1996 and was honoured with the distinction as the youngest member in Australasia to earn his ‘golden keys’ or ‘clefs d’or’.

His passion for food and wine, and commitment to his industry, has led him to gain chef qualifications and basic sommelier’s certificate during the course of his career.

Les Clefs d’Or international motto of ‘In Service Through Friendship’ reflects the relationships that these dedicated concierges build through their network of friends, contacts and associates to ensure guests receive the highest possible standards of service.

Starting out in hospitality as a Bell Boy with The Regent Hotel in Auckland, Mr Marsh worked his way up to Chief Concierge at The Stamford Plaza Hotel Auckland where he was based for the last three and a half years.

Career highlights for Mr Marsh have been looking after some of the world’s greatest dignitaries and entertainers, with duties at CHOGM and APEC meetings among his favorites.

Mr Marsh has been in Auckland this past week at the Les Clefs d'Or AGM where he was appointed Public Relations Manager for the prestigious organisation.

Millbrook posts near record property sales month

Media Release from Millbrook

7 July 2011

Millbrook posts near record property sales month

Creating a varied menu of property buying options at Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort has paid off with a near record sales month for June 2011.

Millbrook’s new McEntyre’s Tarn show home – a single-level cottage-style home harking back to the simple stone crofts of early Central Otago settlers -- opened over Easter and has been the catalyst for three contracts on homes in this attractive neighbourhood.

With the show home already sold off the plans, just one home remains in the five-home hamlet.

Other confirmed sales for the month include two sections and an existing home, adding up to a total of just under $10m. Year-to-date sales at Millbrook, nine months into its financial year, now stand at $10.062m in re-sales and $11.210 in new sales, a total of $21.272m.

“That adds up to an average sale of $1.251m,” said Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley.

“Putting the June sales into context, this is the highest monthly sales figure since August 2007 close to the height of the property and investment boom.

“Millbrook’s five confirmed sales in June would equate to approximately 25% of the total monthly sales value figures in Queenstown (based off May's statistics) with our two salespeople making up only around 1.7% of the licensed agents working in the region.

“It’s a fantastic result in a relatively flat market which demonstrates that Millbrook continues to punch considerably above its weight with regards to local sales averages.

“We boosted our sales team to two in April when Queenstown property expert Julia Blanchard joined the hugely experienced Austin Bragg in the Millbrook Realty Ltd Property and Membership Sales team.

“While sales have been steady for us, we’re definitely starting to see some signs of a pick-up. High quality developments in the region are continuing to sell and Millbrook’s maturity, along with its reputation for quality, has resulted in an ‘on-going flight to quality’ by discerning buyers.

“Millbrook’s show homes at McEntyre’s Tarn and Coronet Square have proven to be hugely popular and a fundamental tool in the sale of many of our properties.

“Land-only sales at Mill Green are also selling well, with five out of nine available already sold, four of them in the last five months. Six of the 13 Coronet Square homes available have also sold.”

Mr O’Malley said McEntyre’s Tarn buyers in June had been two existing Millbrook members and a new Auckland-based member, all Kiwis, who had just “fallen in love” with the properties once they’d been through the show home.

“Those homes definitely have a more homely, country style about them, with comfortable interior furnishings, timber beams, a stone fireplace, multiple living spaces and sunny and peaceful outdoor living spaces,” he said.

Other buyers have come from Dunedin, Queenstown and Tahiti.

Mr O’Malley said two new high-end private homes had also recently been completed at Millbrook, more were under construction and others were still in the pipeline.

“We’ve put a lot of time and effort into creating an extremely high-quality environment at Millbrook, so it’s fantastic to see that those owners have picked up where we left off and are stamping their own mark on the resort with simply beautiful homes.”

Millbrook named world's best golf resort

Media release from Millbrook Resort
18 April 2011

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort has been named the world’s best golf resort by a prestigious Australian travel magazine.

Millbrook has taken out top place in Luxury Travel Magazine’s 2011 Gold List Award for overseas golf resorts, ahead of strong New Zealand and international contenders.

Last year Millbrook came fourth in the awards, which are decided upon by a survey that goes to tens of thousands of discerning, travel-loving readers and clients of Virtuoso, the world’s most exclusive travel agents, to vote on their favourite destinations each year.

This year Millbrook heads a golf resort list that includes The Farm at Cape Kidnappers (2nd) Kauri Cliffs in Matauri Bay (3rd), Mission Hills Resort in Shenzhen, China (4th) and Sun City Resort in South Africa (5th).

Millbrook was also lauded as one of the best New Zealand properties within three hours of the city, taking out fifth place overall behind exclusive lodges such as Huka Lodge and Blanket Bay.

The awards are regarded as one of the most comprehensive luxury travel surveys undertaken by an Australian magazine and widely accepted as Australia’s premier travel awards.

Millbrook General Manager David Onions said the team at Millbrook was “absolutely thrilled” to gain international recognition as the world’s top golf resort.

“To be recognized as the world’s best place to play golf, against some strong competition from other internationally renowned golf resorts, is a wonderful accolade for us,” he said.

“This award comes at an ideal time because many Australians are booking their ski holidays now, and we have a unique ‘green valley’ situation where you can ski in the morning and have a round of golf in the afternoon.

“Millbrook’s the perfect choice for a winter holiday because it’s close to the action of Queenstown and ski fields, just a 20-minute drive to Coronet Peak, yet has a tranquility and ambience about it which enables people to unwind in five-star style with world-class golf, spa and restaurant facilities on their doorstep.”

Mr Onions paid tribute to the hard work and vision of the Millbrook team and its owners in driving a multi-million dollar investment in golf.

In the past three years, the resort has made a significant $30million investment in an innovative covered driving range converted from a former woolshed, a new nine-hole golf course known as the Coronet Nine, extensive upgrades to the existing 18-hole championship golf course, and housing development in the western extension of Millbrook.

The newly structured, award-winning 27-hole configuration at Millbrook has proved hugely popular with local, New Zealand and international golfers.

Millbrook’s three interchangeable ‘nines’ create a varied diet of golf and a combination that only a small handful of courses in the country offer.

ENDS

Nearby you can enjoy the gold rush era village of Arrowtown with its many restaurants, museums and shops. Queenstown’s attractions include a wide range of activities, wineries, easy access to five ski areas, great nightlife and award-winning restaurants and bars.

Millbrook Resort supports ‘Art with Heart’

Media Release from Millbrook Resort March 16, 2011 Millbrook Resort supports ‘Art with Heart’

Leading New Zealand and international artists are coming together to raise funds for the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake appeal.

The ‘who’s who’ of the New Zealand art scene are donating pieces for an auction called ‘Art With Heart’ to be held at Queenstown’s exclusive Millbrook Resort later this month.

Artist and organiser Ed Cruikshank said the response to the auction from the country’s art community had been nothing short of “amazing”.

“The generosity of spirit shown by artists who are giving up pieces that they may have spent months creating, is humbling,” he said.

“The focus is on raising funds for our friends in Christchurch, but anyone who comes along to the auction could walk away with a unique piece at a great price.

“Works at the auction are likely to go for anything from as little as $500 up to $30,000, and we’re hoping to raise close to $100,000 in total.”

Artists whose works will be auctioned at the event include Garrick Tremain, Jane Pestell-Litton, Peter Beadle, Russell McLean, Max Gimblett, Gretchen Albrecht, Dick Frizzell (via Toi o Tahuna), Shane Woolridge, Gilbert and George (via Lee Fletcher), Ernie Maluschnig, Rachael Errington, Jackie Ranken and Mike Langford, Christine Hill, Alan Waters, and Dan Kelly.

Millbrook Marketing Manager Matthew Gould said interest in the auction from guests and Millbrook Country Club members who had already heard about the event was “absolutely huge”.

“We are already getting international calls requesting information on the pieces,” he said.

“Millbrook is extremely happy to support this event in any way we can, and we’re uploading images of the artworks for auction and details of the artists to our Millbrook website as they come to hand.

“Anyone is welcome to attend the event, organize to phone bids in or contact us if they would like any more information.”

‘Art with Heart’ will be held at the Millhouse Conference Centre on Friday March 25th. Viewing will be from 5pm, canapés and bubbles will be served from 6pm, and the auction will follow at 7pm.

The auctioneer will be David Murray of Bayleys Queenstown. He was born and raised in Christchurch, still has family there and is deeply connected to the Christchurch community.

All proceeds will go to the Red Cross appeal. To view information on the artworks and artists go to www.millbrook.co.nz

CONFIRMED ARTISTS AND AUCTION PIECES

Artist - Ed Cruikshank. Auction item – ‘1821 Canterbury’. This is a revolving table in black walnut and gun-blued steel. Height 740mm x diameter 1821mm.

This is a unique piece with an indented Braille inscription that reads: ‘Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope. Love can outlast anything. It stands still when all else has fallen.’

Born in Widnes England in 1965, Ed Cruikshank trained in fine cabinet making and industrial furniture design before working with Viscount Linley at the prestigious LINLEY Company in London from 1993 to 2001.
After moving to New Zealand in 2002, he founded CRUIKSHANK Furniture in Queenstown with a vision to create exceptional furniture that endures and increases in character with use and the passage of time. His meticulously considered and precisely constructed commissions range from unique objects to complete interiors and architectural concepts for a private individuals, corporate customers and public galleries around the world. www.cruikshank.co.nz

Artist - Jane Pestell-Litton. Auction item – ‘Open for Business’. This is a 2010 framed limited edition print.

Contemporary Australian artist and Queenstown property owner Jane Pestell-Litten is represented in national and international private and corporate collections. She was a selected finalist in the Australian National Black Swan Portrait Prize (2009,2010), a finalist in the South Australian Limestone Art Prize(2009), an entrant in the Australian Archibald Prize (2010, 2011) and the Sulman figurative prize (2010). Specialising in figurative and portraiture, her work is oil on linen. Up and coming exhibitions are to be held in Traffic Jam Galleries in Neutral Bay in NSW (July 2011 and September 2012) and Gadfly Gallery Dalkeith Western Australia (2012). www.pestell-litten.com

Artist - Peter Beadle. He is working on a piece specifically for Art for Heart

Peter Beadle (ONZM) is one of New Zealand's leading landscape painters.
Peter lives in the Wakatipu Basin near Queenstown which is located in the heart of New Zealand's most magnificent scenery - the majestic Southern Alps, the rainforests of Fiordland, the parched ‘dry lands’ of Central Otago and the golden tussock country of the Mount Cook region. He has a spiritual affinity to these places which finds expression in the mystical light often seen in his paintings. He travels the world working on commissions for clients. www.peterbeadle.com

Arrowtown photographic artist Russell McLean has this to say about his works.

“The images I have crafted all depict a place in time as I saw it. Would others have seen it the same way at the same time? Probably not. But I saw it that way and in sharing my images I open the door to the unique (even though the subject matter is commonplace), for it will never be exactly the same ever again. I subscribe to the thought that neither the camera nor the digital darkroom ultimately determines the value and quality of an image – it is the visual perception of the photographer which generates interest and evokes response.”

Artist - Max Gimblett. Auction item to be confirmed (Donated by Nadene Milne Gallery)

Born in Auckland in 1935, Max Gimblett has made New York his home for the past thirty years. Gimblett has exhibited extensively since the mid-1970s with his work shown internationally in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and Spain and held as a consequence in major collections, both public and private, throughout the world.
Max Gimblett’s work consists largely of object based paintings in a variety of shapes – the oval, rectangle, circle, square, and most well know, the quatrefoil. The surfaces combine the use of acrylic paints and resins with precious metals such as gold, silver, moon gold and copper as he explores the multiplicity of meanings attached to such revered materials and forms. www.maxgimblett.com

Artist - Gretchen Albrecht. Auction item to be confirmed (Donated by Nadene Milne Gallery)

Gretchen Albrecht has exhibited in New Zealand and internationally for more than 35 years. Recent work has appeared in Valencia, Spain as part of the exhibition Ultramarte at the Casa Museo Benlliure, and throughout New Zealand in the group exhibition Diaspora: Pluralism and Singularity and the survey exhibition Returning, initiated by the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. www.gretchenalbrecht.com

Artist - Dick Frizzell. Auction item to be confirmed (Donated by Toi o Tahuna)

Dick Frizzell worked as a commercial artist after graduating from the University of Canterbury in 1964. This introduced him to the notion of art making as a profession. It also placed him within the environment from which much of his imagery has evolved. Frizzell’s art is humorous yet touching, with a love for the advertisements, billboards and posters from the 1950s and 1960s, such as the Four-Square Man, that are familiar to many New Zealanders.
This was later followed with an exhibition based upon his appropriation of the Tiki in paintings that reinvented this symbol in Cubist and Art Deco style.. Frizzell has received considerable recognition from the art institutions in New Zealand and in 1997 was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition toured by the City Gallery Wellington.

Artist - Shane Woolridge. Auction item - He is working on a piece specifically for Art for Heart

Shane Woolridge is an Arrowtown-based artist who pushes the boundaries of local and acquired schist stone to create stunning sculptures. Drawing inspiration from the local environment, combined with a unique and intriguing perspective, and with incredible skill and balance, Shane creates awe-inspiring pieces of varying scale. www.shanewoolridge.co.nz

Artist - Gilbert & George. Auction item - Framed Exhibition Poster signed by artists (Donated by Lee Fletcher)

Jack Freak Pictures is, to date, the largest series of work created by Gilbert & George. The Jack Freak Pictures are said to be among the most iconic, philosophically astute and visually violent works that Gilbert & George have ever created. The Union Jack and Gilbert & George are the two dominant pictorial images - appearing contorted, abstracted, and sometimes complete. The entire series is set in the East End of London indicated by flags, maps, street signs, graffiti and other less obvious motifs such as brickwork and foliage that can be found there.

Artist - Ernie Maluschnig. Auction item - Ground Relief (Oct 2010) Stainless Steel 660mm x 650mm x 200mm Influenced by the Canterbury earthquake September 2010

Ernie Maluschnig has had a lifelong relationship with metals. As a child he helped his father, an Austrian watchmaker and jeweller. He trained and worked as a fitter and welder, and in 1997 he established Metalworks Wanaka, a business known for creative fine design and craftsmanship.
He gains satisfaction from creating visually successful tactile forms from materials which are technically challenging and unforgiving.
Ernie has completed public and private commissions nationally and internationally and is invited to exhibit regularly. His current work includes responses to the Central Otago Landscape he lives in.

Artist - Rachael Errington. Auction item – Autumn Turning 2010. 1300mm x 1500mm (Donated through Artbay Gallery)

Rachael Errington is a Queenstown-based artist and illustrator. She also studied graphic design, printmaking, photography and textiles. Rachael loves creative writing, and has been actively involved with varied projects. www.queenstown-artist.co.nz

Artist - Garrick Tremain. Auction item to be confirmed.

Garrick Tremain is highly regarded as both a painter and New Zealand's funniest and most perceptive political cartoonist. A New Zealander by birth, he was a city child who wished he'd been a country kid. Consequently he left school to work on farms and sheep stations. It was here, in the smoko rooms and shearing sheds that his drawing ability first raised eyebrows, and he returned to the city to test his suspected talent in commercial art studios. For ten years he climbed the advertising ladder before deciding he could best combine his love of art and the rural environment by becoming a landscape painter. Since 1972 he has been a full time professional painter and in 1988 decided to add the string of political cartooning to his bow. When time allows he takes respite from the easel at the piano or on the golf course. www.garricktremain.com

Artists - Jackie Ranken and Mike Langford. Auction item to be confirmed.

Mike Langford has 30 years’ experience as an international professional photographer and has lectured and given workshops to professional photographers for 20 years. He is a passionate and patient teacher to all levels of photography and through all the photographic disciplines including landscape, portraiture, architecture and commercial photography. He has published over 20 books, with more to come. |
Multi award-winning landscape art photographer Jackie Ranken began her photography career at age 16. She is now an International judge and lecturer.. She considers her ‘art’ to be classic black and white landscape photography, where the 'fine art print' is the most important end result of the photographic process. www.qccp.co.nz

Artist - Dan Kelly. He is working on a piece specifically for Art for Heart

Dan’s career platform as a highly regarded, multi-faceted designer and sculptor was forged when he won the very first Wearable Art Show in Nelson.
Self- taught, and based in Glenorchy, a short drive from Queenstown, Dan has worked to commissioned orders for 20 years. Initially, his style was described as a ‘sort of Doctor Zeus style’. Each piece commands the viewer to take notice, and as the sculpture is formed, so is the personality of the creature.
Recycled materials feature in many of Dan’s sculptures, with a variety of mediums such as sheet brass, copper and rusty steel. These mediums are shaped, welded, manipulated, aged, then finally vertigreed.
Big on imagination, correct proportion and honest construction, his inspiration for the use of these different mediums is a result of ongoing work on feature films. www.artbay.co.nz/dan-kelly.html

Artist - Christine Hill. Auction item - Ferry Hill, Walter and Cecil Peak. Oil on Canvas Framed 860x700

Christine Hill spent her formative years in West Yorkshire, England
She studied Art and Design at Huddersfield School of Art and graduated with a Diploma of Fine Art and Art Teaching at Sheffield College of Art. She taught for three years in Britain before emigrating to New Zealand in1964 to take an art teaching position at Whangarei Girls High School.
Christine has always been inspired by the vibrant clear light of the antipodes; a huge contrast to the drab vistas of the industrial north of England in the early 60's The intense colours of her adopted homeland have been reflected in her art works ever since. She has lived in the Wakatipu since 1991,and has held exhibitions of her paintings in New Zealand and Australia .

Artist – Alan Waters. Auction item to be confirmed.

Alan is well-known throughout New Zealand and abroad as a major artist. He consistently produces a wide-ranging variety of scenes and images which often defy logic as well as challenge the viewer’s perceptions. www.alanwatersart.com

Continuing Buyer Interest in Millbrook developments

Residential developments at Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort continue to attract buyers from far and wide with sales totaling $7.6m in the first two months of its financial year.

Prospective property buyers are coming predominantly from Auckland and East Coast Australia to buy new and existing homes at the exclusive resort.

Following the release and sale of six properties within the 13-home Coronet Square development, including its award-winning show home that recently took out top honours at the 2010 Master Builders Awards, Millbrook also released its McEntyre’s Tarn development in late September.

The McEntyre’s Tarn exclusive five-home hamlet of single level residences, designed by multi-award-winning Mason & Wales Architects, had barely been released to the market when the cottage-style property earmarked as its show home sold off the plans.

“The ink had barely dried on the plans before it sold,” said Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley.

Mr O’Malley said buyers were eying the resort for its established reputation for quality, extensive on-site facilities and world-class 27-hole golf course.

“Millbrook continues to take a measured approach to continued development at the resort, but it has to be said that the decision to commit to building show homes has paid off significantly for us,” he said. “Glossy brochures are good, but backing them up with a high-quality finished product gives prospective purchasers the confidence they need to sign on the dotted line.

“Both the first and second show home completed for Coronet Square have sold, thanks in part to their wonderful presentation through the work of Queenstown-based interior designer Jean Foster.

“We’re currently working on another Coronet Square show home that should open in early 2011. The McEntyre’s Tarn show home will still be built and furnished so potential buyers can see, touch and feel the charm of these stone cottages, complete with wooden beams and stone fireplaces. “

“We’ll build the remaining four McEntyre’s Tarn cottages to a ‘shell only’ stage, meaning that buyers can choose their own interior designs and finishing.”

Mr O’Malley said buyer interest continued to be pleasing and was most likely the result of the multiple property options now available at Millbrook Resort.

“New Zealand also has a lifestyle appeal that is growing significantly on the international property market and Millbrook, in its stunning Central Otago location, provides superb architect-designed homes built by a multi-award-winning builder within 20 minutes’ drive of a booming year-round destination.

“East Coast Australia in particular is a growth area for us because of many factors. It now enjoys cheap airfares with more direct and frequent flights, is a key ski ‘bolt hole’ for Australians, and New Zealand offers Aussies an escape from hot summers and busy cities, all on tax friendly terms.

“Economically, Australia never really ‘caught the GFC cold’ that everyone else did so they’re more prepared to spend in comparison to other overseas investors right now.”

Development of land packages at the nine-lot Mill Green subdivision is also well underway with one lot already sold from the plans.

“To consolidate the results we’re already seeing, we’re about to embark on a big national and Australian marketing ‘push’ as we currently have several levels of new and existing homes available to the market, and two levels of ‘land only’ packages at different price points,” said Mr O’Malley.

For further media information or high res images please contact:

Ben O’Malley
Property and Development Manager
Millbrook
M: 021 397 608
E: ben@millbrook.co.nz

Queenstown’s Millbrook Resort continued its great run of property success on Saturday (27 November), when its Coronet Square show home picked up the James Hardie National Show Home of the Year Award at the 2010 Master Builders Awards.

Built by Arrowtown-based company AJ Saville, the show home initially won a gold rating and was named overall category winner in the Southern Division of the competition’s regional awards in July. To win the national title AJ Saville went up against eight other entries at an awards ceremony in Auckland.

The four-bedroom show home was described by judges as “a fine expression of the builder’s and designer’s craft” and they praised use of materials appropriate for the Central Otago environment and landscape.

"This is a show home that the resort owner can be proud of to promote the unique living environment," the judges said.

The Registered Master Builders House of Year Awards is New Zealand’s premier residential and commercial building awards programme.

Company owner Allister Saville accepted the award in Auckland with colleague and Millbrook site foreman Jeff Long.

“We’re delighted to have been selected from among our peers to win,” said Mr Saville.

“For the company it raises our profile in the professional building sector significantly and puts us on the highest level as to what is expected. For the team, it gives everyone great credit for their hard earned efforts and is a huge boost for our future.”

Mr Saville said he was delighted to see that judges selected the Millbrook show home for the title because of its high-quality finish on interior joinery and stand-out design.

The award is yet another ‘gong’ for Mr Saville for his work on a Millbrook house. In 2006 Mr Saville’s company won the national competition with another Millbrook house in the ‘new homes over $1 million’ category, and also won the Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency Award.

He has previously been a regional finalist nine times and a national finalist four times.

Following the Coronet Square show home’s regional win, Millbrook sold the property to an Australian buyer for a confidential sum. Its subsequent show home replacement has also recently sold. A total of 13 homes are being built at Coronet Square by Millbrook Country Club.

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said they had been working with Allister for the past nine years and was delighted to have a builder of his standing working at the resort.

“We’d like to extend our special thanks and a huge congratulations to Allister and his team,” he said.

“Our partnership with AJ Saville continues to bring Millbrook great success on many levels and the team consistently performs at the very highest standard.

“Millbrook’s show homes have proven to be very popular and a fundamental tool in the sale of many of our properties. This award gives deserved recognition to the quality of the building, finishes and fittings you expect in a house of their standard.”

The 13 elegant and spacious three and four-bedroom properties in the heart of the exclusive new Coronet Square development have features including double garaging, ski drying cupboards, fitted joinery, solid construction, energy efficiency and a comprehensive heating and water heating system.

Each house is fitted out with the latest appliances and high quality fittings, including a full home entertainment system. Queenstown interior designer Jean Foster has fitted out the show homes, including the one that won on Saturday.

The carefully considered landscape design by Paddy Baxter is one of elegant simplicity with dry stacked stone walls, paving, block planting and an expansive ‘infinity’ lawn running to the edges of the golf course.

Its official, Millbrook has been confirmed as the leading Golf Resort in Australasia, recently taking out the title at the prestigious World Travel Awards.

The award places Millbrook among the elite golf resorts of the world and is a “tremendous” boost to the team behind the resort's recent multi-million dollar investment in the facilities, according to General Manager David Onions.

“The timing's perfect with our new 27-hole course completed with the opening of the final four new holes this Labour Weekend,” said Mr Onions.

Paying tribute to his entire team, Mr Onions said the major revisions to the course had taken golf at Millbrook to another level.

“When considered alongside the extensive refurbishments of our accommodations and new property releases, it's easy to see why the 183,000 travel agents that voted on these awards were so impressed,” he said.

“Millbrook golf course offers some of the very best golfing in New Zealand. It’s set in a beautiful location, with some exceptional holes and outstanding facilities.”

Course designer Greg Turner of Turner Macpherson Golf Design was equally pleased.

“We’re lucky enough to be involved in design projects in some extraordinary places around the world, but none have been more spectacular than Millbrook. It's great to know that our golf facilities are seen to be in-keeping with that splendour.”

Millbrook joins a prestigious list of winners such as Air New Zealand, Palazzo Versace Gold Coast and Tourism New Zealand in the Australasian awards, all of whom now progress to the World Final in London on November 7.

Earlier this year New Zealand Prime Minister John Key officially opened the course and described it as “beautiful” and “a great addition to this high quality resort.”

“It has been tremendous to have the opportunity to play it,” he said.

Golfers have the option to play three separate ‘nines’ - The Remarkables Nine, Coronet Nine and Arrow Nine or a differing combination of the three, where any two out of the three 'nines' can be played together.

Millbrook celebrates as show home comes up for top honours at premier property awards

Media Release from Millbrook - July 12 2010

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort is on a roll with steady property sales and an award-winning show home.

In the past six months the resort has realized $9.8m in new sales and re-sales of homes and sections. One of the sales was of the latest neighbourhood release - the Coronet Square show home.

And this week, Millbrook is celebrating news that the show home has won a regional Master Builders House of the Year award.

The Coronet Square show home, built by Arrowtown-based company AJ Saville Builder Limited, was awarded a gold rating in the Southern Region division of the Master Builders James Hardie Show Home Award, and was also named the overall category winner.

The win takes Saville to the national awards gala dinner to be held in Auckland in November, a familiar environment for the multi-award-winning builder.

Mr Saville’s company won the 2006 national competition with another Millbrook house in the ‘new homes over $1 million’ category, and also won the Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency Award. He has previously been a regional finalist nine times and a national finalist four times.

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said they had been working with Allister for the past nine years and was delighted to have a builder of his standing working at the resort.

“This is a win/win success story because his reputation is growing along with ours,” he said.

“We’ve had a very long association with him and he keeps consistently performing at the very highest standard. We all know that every builder is only as good as their last job.

“It’s an important factor when people are buying a home like the ones in Coronet Square that they know AJ Saville produces the quality of building, finishes and fittings you expect in a house of this standard.

“Allister’s work rates among the best in the country. He consistently works within Millbrook’s guidelines to ensure consistency in standards to create the timeless and striking buildings Millbrook is renowned for.”

Christchurch firm Ingrid Geldof Design which designed all of the kitchens, bathrooms and laundries in the Coronet Square homes also picked up an award for their work at Coronet Square. Rachel Barnes of IGD’s Queenstown office won a ‘Regional Award’ for the master ensuite at the National Kitchen and Bathroom Associations awards ceremony held in Queenstown on Saturday night.

The Coronet Square show home will remain open for viewings until the end of July when the new owners receive the keys. A new Coronet Square show home, furnished once more by Queenstown-based interior designer Jean Foster, will open its doors in September.

“The show home has been a huge success; we have had more than 2,000 people come through it since Christmas,” said Mr O’Malley.

“The market is being more selective; they want to see the product, touch it and feel it,” he said.

“Buyers are definitely being more discerning. It’s getting harder to “sell the dream” from plans only, as many developers and vendors have discovered in recent months, but the fact that the show home and others have sold at Millbrook shows that quality is still winning out.”

Mr O’Malley said the show home had sold to an Australian buyer for a confidential figure.

In the poll, readers were asked to rate resorts on rooms and facilities, location, service, restaurants and food, and value.

Results of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards are published in the August magazine and online at www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest.
New Zealand's Top 5-Star Resort Lowers Prices for 2011 Rugby World Cup

The multi-award-winning resort, which enjoys the flexibility of being an independent accommodation operator, is not only holding prices at previously advertised rates, but is proactively discounting 25% off specific room types, with ‘Earlybird specials’ for those who book now.

“For Millbrook Resort, the Rugby World Cup is about enticing as many international visitors, especially South Africans, Australians and English, to visit New Zealand and be forced to watch the All Blacks walk off with the cup,” said Millbrook general manager and keen rugby fan David Onions.

“The Rugby World Cup’s all about showcasing New Zealand and supporting our national team, not about crass profiteering. As an independent resort we can set our own rules and don’t need or want to follow any price hike trends.

“We’re offering honest Kiwi value because we want our guests to be repeat visitors to New Zealand, not just one-off ‘trippers’ here for a single event. This is the ultimate opportunity to showcase our country and showcase Millbrook, our chance to shout out to the world about what we do and what we have to offer.”

The Earlybird Specials on offer from Millbrook, available for stays between September and November 2011, will be subject to change in the countdown to the tournament.

Details are available on the Millbrook website www.millbrook.co.nz and the resort’s marketing team is already working on tailored packages for families, corporate groups and ‘groups of guys’ looking for all-inclusive packages including golf, spa or other activities.

The rate strategy is already working as Millbrook is receiving strong bookings for RWC 2011 from organisations such as UK Old Boys Rugby clubs, tour groups from top US colleges like Harvard and even rugby lovers from Perth, Australia.

Although Queenstown isn’t hosting any RWC 2011 matches, the resort town is expecting strong flow-on business both before and after the event. Millbrook, at the luxury end of the market with rooms from $250 to $1600 a night, is already reporting high demand.

“If you offer value and service you will get the customers,” said Mr Onions.

“What could be nicer than sitting at Millbrook with a bunch of South African fans watching Richie McCaw lift the Webb-Ellis up in triumph? We’d be mad not to invest in that.”

Millbrook among world's best golf resorts

The Luxury Travel and Style magazine has placed Millbrook 4th in its Gold List of best overseas golf resorts, behind the likes of Scotland’s legendary St Andrews course, Pebble Beach in California and New Zealand’s Kauri Cliffs.

Its survey goes to tens of thousands of discerning, travel-loving readers and clients of Virtuoso, the world’s most exclusive travel agents, to vote on their favourite destinations each year.

Millbrook General Manager David Onions says the team at Millbrook is absolutely delighted to be consistently recognised as one of the world’s top golf resorts.

“To be recognized as one of the world’s best places to play golf, amongst such illustrious company, is a fantastic accolade. It’s ideal timing because a lot of Australians are booking their ski holidays now.

“Millbrook is the perfect choice for a winter holiday because it’s close to the action of Queenstown and the ski fields, just a 20-minute drive to Coronet Peak, yet has a tranquility and ambience about it which allows people to unwind in five-star style with world-class golf, spa and restaurant facilities on their doorstep.”

Last year, for the fourth year in a row, Millbrook was ranked among the top 25 hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific by the prestigious Travel & Leisure annual World’s Best reader’s poll. It was New Zealand’s only South Island property to make the list.

The Spa at Millbrook was also the only spa in Australasia to make it to the internationally-renowned Top 10 Hotel Spas Worldwide list.

Mr Onions pays tribute to the hard work and vision of the team driving the ongoing upgrade and modification of Millbrook’s golf courses which is due to be completed by Christmas 2010.

“It’s an exciting time for us. We continually strive to be the best and I firmly believe the work we’re doing this year will take golf at Millbrook to a whole new level and provide greater flexibility and satisfaction for our golfers.”

Millbrook’s new Coronet Nine, designed by Turner McPherson and officially opened in January by Prime Minister John Key, follows a links layout that is new to Millbrook and an extension of its already world-class offering.

Golf course designer Greg Turner of Turner McPherson Golf says the course layout is new to Millbrook, designed with careful consideration to the natural landscapes.

“The natural contours of the land for golf course construction are brilliant,” he says. “The exceptional surrounding landscape means that nothing within the course itself needed to be contrived.”

The Coronet Nine and the Remarkables Nine are currently in play and work is now underway to redesign and reconfigure four holes on the Arrow Nine, the third and final part of a $500 million Millbrook development master plan.

By Christmas 2010 Millbrook will become a fully interchangeable 27-hole golf course with The Remarkables Nine, Coronet Nine and Arrow Nine creating three different 18-hole combinations, where any two out of the three 'nines' can be played together.

Millbrook Expands into Real Estate

Over the last nine years Millbrook has worked with Livingstone Realty, but recent changes to the Real Estate Act has enabled Millbrook to amicably end the relationship and develop its own company.

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley described the development as an exciting milestone in the resort’s history.

“Millbrook is now investing in the future of the real estate industry within the resort, which we believe will benefit both vendors of properties being on-sold and Millbrook’s own property developments,” he said.

The volume of property within the resort being re-sold has continued to grow annually as property values have increased and property numbers have increased. This has grown from $11 million in 2001 to $23 million in 2009, figures which exclude the new development being sold.

Mr O’Malley said he believed the move in-house would strengthen and bring more equity to the Millbrook brand.

“The business is now of a size where Millbrook has the confidence to invest further in this new business venture, which will see marked improvements in presentation of our sales office and its marketing collateral. We see this as an investment in the future of real estate at Millbrook,” he said.

The move in-house comes with a number of benefits for clients including the recently refurbished sales office opening seven days a week compared to the previous five. The Millbrook sales team has also been bolstered with the appointment of Teresa Chapman.

Mr O’Malley said Ms Chapman brought a “wealth” of knowledge to the company having previously worked in real estate in the Queenstown region.

“She works extremely well alongside our existing salesman Austin Bragg with whom she has worked in the past.”

Millbrook is also strengthening its relationship with external local agencies and working on Australian marketing and sales distribution channels. The Millbrook Realty team looks forward to servicing the requirements of its membership community.

Millbrook Resort a big hit with Amway

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort has had its busiest January ever, playing host to close to 300 Japanese Amway distributors and staff.

The four VIP groups of distributors, who stayed at Millbrook in two ‘waves’ over a two-week period, were each at Millbrook for five days, enjoying welcome functions complete with a New Zealand Haka, golf on Millbrook’s renowned championship course, treatments at The Spa at Millbrook, recognised among the top ten hotel spas worldwide, and gala dinners at The Hills with presentations by Peter Hillary and performances from international songstress Hayley Westenra.

The groups, which included the top 300 achievers in Japan and the top achiever in the world, were reported to be “thrilled” with the world class facilities Millbrook had to offer and enjoyed exploring the wider Queenstown region.

“The facilities at Millbrook were truly world class,” said Peter Hughes-Hallett, Vice President of Amway Japan, who travelled to New Zealand with them.

“It was the perfect location in which to host and reward our top distributors, many of whom were on their first ever visit to New Zealand. The chance to relax and take a break from the fast-paced life in Japan, surrounded by the quality of Millbrook and the natural beauty of Queenstown, was beyond the expectations of our Distributor VIPs.”

During their visit, the Amway delegates experienced some of the best activities Queenstown has to offer including scenic heli-flights, trips to Milford Sound, bungy jumping, and a full range of soft adventure activities and shopping.

Millbrook General Manager David Onions estimated that the groups would have brought an estimated $1.3m-worth of business to Millbrook and Queenstown.

“Hosting the Amway delegates is a significant boost for the Queenstown tourism economy at a time when Japanese visits to New Zealand have been in decline,” he said.

“The calibre of this group and the fact that they chose Millbrook following two years’ of discussion with our C&I team and Japanese sales manager Yoji Kimura of Japan Connect NZ reinforces Millbrook’s five-star brand and the range of venues and open space available here.

“A conference or incentive stay and the range of experiences on offer at Millbrook is limited only by your imagination. We hope many members of this group will return to stay here and will tell their friends about Queenstown.”

Karen Whittaker, Millbrook Sales Manager Conference and Events, said Millbrook already had more confirmed business for 2010 than for the whole of 2009.

“On top of that we are still getting plenty of short lead enquiries,” she said. “Continued investment in the resort is helping to keep it at the top of its game on local, national and international levels.”

Japanese Amway distributors have previously stayed in places including Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, New York’s renowned Waldorf Astoria and Brunei’s Empire Hotel.

To top off their perfect Queenstown experience, each Amway distributor was given local Pounamu and a bottle of New Zealand wine.

Founded over 50 years ago, Amway is a major global direct selling company that distributes over 450 million health, beauty and household products through a large network of over 3.5 million independent business owners.

Visitors to Millbrook’s Hole in One bar can now enjoy a mouth-watering selection of new dishes, from hand-crafted pizzas through to bistro-style foods.

The Hole-in-One is hugely popular with golfers as much as those who just want a cosy location to meet up with friends, relaxing in front of a warm fire and enjoying the wide selection of food and drinks on offer throughout the day.

The fantastic pizzas are hand-crafted and delivered sizzling hot to the tables, boasting delights such as the Southlander pizza, with roast lamb, caramelised onions, mint, capsicum, yoghurt and tangy salsa.

For those wanting something lighter, the Hole-in-One has a beautiful selection of salads, such as a warm grilled calamari and chorizo salad with goat’s cheese, rocket, broad beans and split parmesan dressing.

On colder days, there are warming winter dishes including an American cheeseburger with chunky cut fries, or seafood pasta with scallops, mussels and clams. The Vegetable Korma is already a hot local favourite, while the Nibbles Menu fills a gap when needed and kids aren’t forgotten with a snack box, pizza or pasta menu. Lunch or dinner is available daily from 9am to 9pm.

Millbrook has always offered a selection of top restaurants for diners, with a particular favourite being the five-star Millhouse Restaurant, where the menu is created with a range of local seasonal ingredients.

Millhouse’s famous Sunday roast attracts families, skiers and locals alike to enjoy a warming Sunday lunch overlooking the often frozen Millbrook pond.

“Picture a roaring log fire, the warmest of welcomes, and groups of friends or families relaxing over a leisurely lunch,” said Executive Chef Russell Heron. “The aim is to deliver a really relaxing dining experience.”

The Sunday Roast menu includes pork with apple and sage stuffing, or lamb stuffed with olives and sun-dried tomato, with a choice of accompaniments, available from 12 noon to 3pm.

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook resort has been named among the world’s best golf resorts in a prestigious Australian travel magazine.

Luxury Travel and Style magazine has placed Millbrook 3rd in its list of best overseas golf resorts, behind the likes of Scotland’s legendary St Andrews Links and New Zealand’s Kauri Cliffs.

In its fifth annual survey, the magazine says its Gold List 2009 – asking its discerning, travel-loving readers to vote on their favourite destinations – is Australia’s premier luxury travel award.

Tens of thousands of magazine subscribers and clients of Virtuoso, the world’s most exclusive travel agents, completed the survey.

Millbrook has improved on its ranking from last year when it rated fourth.

Four completely new golf holes opened at the end of last month, part of a new ‘Coronet Nine’ course being developed at Millbrook West, a $500 million residential and golf course lifestyle development.

The new holes are being brought into play as four holes from the original Bob Charles-designed 18-hole course are taken out of play for extensive re-configuration and realignment, meaning golfers will play this ‘hybrid’ course for the next 12 months.

The original championship course has already seen the introduction of twenty-eight new bunkers, the remodeling of another seventeen and the removal of sixteen existing traps (all in the opening 14 holes).

The bunker upgrades are stage one of a million dollar golf course modification and come off the back of significant recent resort investment including a $10 million villa interiors refurbishment, refurbishment of the popular Hole In One café, and a new world class driving range.

Earlier this year, Millbrook Resort was named among the top 25 hotels in the Asia Pacific region for the fourth time and was one of only seven New Zealand properties to make the list.

Set in a natural alpine amphitheatre on 500 acres, Millbrook has a history of tradition that spans 150 years, luxury accommodation, exceptional dining options and The Spa at Millbrook with leading edge treatments.

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook resort has been named among the top 25 hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific for the fourth time.

Placing 12th in the 2008 Travel & Leisure magazine ‘World’s Best’ reader poll, Millbrook is one of only seven New Zealand properties to make the top 25 hotels list for the Asia Pacific region.

"What makes this accolade even more meaningful is that it was voted for by discerning travellers who read the magazine. We’re certainly celebrating and thanking our team whose hard work and dedication to exceptional hospitality played a huge role in gaining Travel & Leisure’s recognition." said General Manager David Onions.

The resort also secured a place in the top 25 in 2004, 2006 and 2007, and was named one of the top 500 hotels of the world in 2005 and 2009.

Millbrook has just been named among the world’s best golf resorts in a prestigious Australian travel magazine Luxury Travel and Style.

Millbrook placed 4th in the magazine’s list of best overseas golf resorts, behind the likes of Scotland’s legendary St Andrews course, Pebble Beach in California and the Banyan Tree in Phuket, Thailand.

In the fourth year of the annual results, the magazine says its Gold List 2008 – asking its discerning, travel-loving readers to vote on their favourite destinations – is the most comprehensive luxury travel survey ever undertaken by an Australian magazine.

Tens of thousands of magazine subscribers and clients of Virtuoso, the world’s most exclusive travel agents, completed the survey.

In July last year, the Queenstown resort was named for the third year among the top 25 hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, one of only four New Zealand properties to make the list in the prestigious Travel & Leisure annual World’s Best reader’s poll.

In late November, Millbrook was also official hotel for the hugely successful Michael Hill New Zealand Golf Open.

Long regarded as one of New Zealand’s top golf courses, the 18-hole Sir Bob Charles-designed championship course at Millbrook resort has been on the receiving end of an extensive upgrade and modification programme.

‘Strategic bunkering’ is now the name of the game at the five-star resort, where the introduction of twenty-eight new bunkers, the remodelling of another seventeen and the removal of sixteen existing traps (all in the opening 14 holes) have made life just that little more interesting for players.

The bunker upgrades are stage one of a million dollar golf course modification and come off the back of significant recent resort investment including a $10 million villa interiors refurbishment, the refurbishment of the popular Hole In One Cafe, the establishment of a new world class driving range facility, and work starting on a half billion dollar, 200-plus home housing development and additional nine-hole golf course.

Millbrook Awarded Coveted Qualmark Five-Stars

Millbrook has received the official Qualmark™ report confirming the resort’s five-star hotel rating.

Qualmark, New Zealand tourism’s official quality mark, rated Millbrook as exceptional’ in its star rating system and praised the resort highly, with specific reference to appearance, physical beauty and cleanliness.

Awarded the top ranking for its ‘strong focus on customer service and continual improvement’ and the emphasis placed on team training, Millbrook also earned high praise for an ‘excellent range of recreational equipment’.

Karen Henry, Resort Services Manager said she was overwhelmed with the Qualmark accreditation and delighted to note that Millbrook’s housekeeping team was singled out for special praise.

“The quality of the facilities, from the Bob Charles designed golf course to the world class spa, is indisputable,” said the report.

“Just two other establishments in the South Island have the five-star hotel rating. It’s incredibly rewarding for the team to know that all the things we passionately believe about Millbrook actually do translate into reality and are experienced by those who visit.

“In this fiercely competitive market having five stars beside our name really sets us apart and gives Millbrook the vital edge it deserves.”

“The report said our Executive Housekeeper and her team have excellent procedures in place and ensure cleanliness to every part of this expansive property. The Assessors commented on how impressed she was by the strong sense of pride the entire team have in the resort.”

Millbrook was also singled out for maximising its physical and historical environment.

“This really gives us something to build on,” she said.

To gain the Qualmark, Millbrook underwent an onsite assessment that includes more than 400 quality checks. The assessment criteria look at areas such as cleanliness, safety, facilities, customer service, business operations and more.

“The Qualmark silver fern signifies to domestic and international travellers that Millbrook is a professional and trustworthy establishment, which can be relied on to deliver an experience that will exceed expectations,” said Ms Henry.

Qualmark is a joint venture between Tourism New Zealand and New Zealand Automobile Association, and is backed by the New Zealand Tourism Industry Association and other leading industry organisations.

Buy Yourself a Slice of Millbrook History

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook resort is selling off ‘pieces’ of the multi-award-winning property – but deep pockets aren’t required to buy in.

The premier golf resort is literally selling off whole fairways, turf that has been graced by the likes of former US President Bill Clinton, various heads of state and numerous VIPs.

The lush green turf is being pulled up from the existing 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th fairways as the existing championship course undergoes a multi-million dollar re-development and a new nine holes is added, to be known as the Coronet Nine.

“Its turf with a history, turf that has been lovingly tended, fertilized and irrigated by a team of professionals for the past 15 years,” said Millbrook Property Development Manager Ben O’Malley.

“Bill Clinton came here in September 1999, played nine holes and loved it, describing it as an “enchanted land”.

“Word’s got out already and people are queuing up to buy it – not only because it’s in such good condition but because of its history. Imagine laying this in your back yard and getting out there for a few quiet practice chips with some friends. How much fun would that be?”

Would-be buyers had better get in quick if they want some turf from the greens, perfectly manicured and preened as they are.

“The greens are laid on sand and not soil, so it’s not that ideal for lawns,” said Mr O’Malley. “However if you’ve got enough space to set up your own mini putting green, it would be perfect.”

The turf will be cut up and rolled ready to distribute during the first week in December only, but Millbrook is taking orders now. Priced at $3.50 m2 with discounts available for larger orders, the turf will come with a bag of fertilizer, instructions on how to roll and look after it, and stacked on pallets for collection or optional delivery by Millbrook.

"Normally turf sells for up to $$8 per m2 or more, but we’ve put together a great deal because it’s advantageous for us to remove large areas of turf at one time as the top soil then goes through our screening plant more efficiently,” Mr O’Malley said.

“You too can have your own piece of Millbrook, so just let us know and we’ll help set you up for summer.”

Photo opportunity: Ben O’Malley and Greg Turner will be available for a photo opportunity this afternoon (Thursday October 30).

For further media information or to arrange a photo please contact:
Ben O’Malley
Property and Development Manager
021 397 608 or Ben.O’Malley@millbrook.co.nz

Golfing facilities enhanced at Millbrook West course

Millbrook West is to add a $150,000 covered driving range to its world-class golfing facilities at five-star Millbrook Resort.

One of only two covered driving ranges in the region, the new Driving Range building will be constructed using local stone and original features recovered from a nearby disused woolshed that formerly belonged to Mt Soho Station.

With six individual covered hitting bays enclosed by recycled sheep catching pens, the driving range will also house two small pavilions; one dedicated to dispensing and ball washing operations, the other a coaching clinic classroom. The facility will compliment the existing open air practice areas.

“The covered facility means we can significantly extend the use of our new driving range, which opened last November in time for the influx of golfers to the region for the New Zealand Golf Open,” said Millbrook Golf Director Brian Spicer.

“It will enable us to keep golfers sheltered from the blazing heat of summers and showers on wet days, and we also plan to install heaters into the bays, extending use of the driving range facility into the winter months.”

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said the resort could have built a brand new building, but when the opportunity arose to save the old woolshed the timing could not have been better.

“We were brainstorming the look and feel of the proposed driving range with our landscape architect, and the continuation of the historic agricultural buildings theme at Millbrook was important,” he said.

Mt Soho Station has a historic connection with Millbrook, as part of the land that is now Millbrook was previously owned by the station owners who used it as holding paddocks before shearing time.

Players will enter the Covered Driving Range through a large recycled sliding door and walk along a rear corridor made from the recycled 'board'. Other recycled timbers will be used, alongside recovered galvanised corrugated iron.

As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, Millbrook will be making a $4,000 donation to the Arrowtown Rugby Club to de-construct the woolshed over the weekend of March 29 and 30 and transport it to Millbrook.

The Gatehouse Driving Range will be officially opened over Labour Weekend in October. To coincide with opening, Millbrook will launch a tutoring scheme in which golf pros will run clinics for amateur players, complete with video swing analysis.

“A covered driving range is the ideal facility for mentoring and tutoring other players,” said Mr Spicer.

“We’ve wanted to offer this service for quite some time, so having a professional-standard facility makes this possible,” said Mr Spicer.

Christchurch-based Suburban Estates, the organisation that owns the site on which the woolshed currently sits, has embraced the idea of keeping local history alive by donating the shed on the site of its proposed Linksgate subdivision.

“We’re extremely grateful to Suburban Estates for sharing our vision to reflect our 150-year farming history, continuing our commitment to the restoration or placement of authentic regional buildings around the Millbrook grounds,” said Mr O’Malley.

The covered driving range will compliment the half billion dollar residential and golf course development currently being constructed at Millbrook West. The 91-hectare piece of land, located to the west of the existing five-star Millbrook Resort, will ultimately comprise an a new nine-hole golf course, designed by New Zealand golf legend Greg Turner, and 200 home sites.

ENDS

Properties release a public 'first' for Millbrook West

Millbrook West has announced the first public release of home and land packages at its $500million residential and golf course development at New Zealand’s five-star Millbrook Resort.

The 13 elegant and spacious three and four-bedroom properties at Coronet Square, in the heart of the exclusive new development, will be encircled by the fairways and greens of Millbrook’s brand new Coronet Nine golf course.

Previously 25 Millbrook West land-only sites, released solely to Millbrook Country Club members, sold in December 2006 and July 2007 in one of the fastest land grabs in the history of Millbrook development. Total sales came to just over $31 million with the majority of sites bought by Kiwis, many of them existing Millbrook property owners.

The unprecedented level of interest in Millbrook property isn’t surprising to Ben O’Malley, the resort’s property and development manager.

“It’s a huge compliment to Millbrook in general and more specifically to the Millbrook West design team for the master plan they’ve come up with.

“There’s a lot of competition out in the market but people do recognise the value of Millbrook. You can’t replicate 150-year-old trees or original stone buildings or the sense of real camaraderie between those who like to work, live and play here,” he said.

The 13 sites being released are all on sunny, elevated North-facing slopes overlooking the new and existing golf courses, some with views of Lake Hayes, and all with panoramic 360 degree views to Coronet Peak, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak, Bowen Peak, the Crown Range or The Remarkables mountain ranges.

To offer more choice, there will be a mix of three and four bedroom houses with one bedroom on the ground floor to cater for the elderly or people with mobility issues. The four most elevated homes will have a guest suite above the garage, sleeping up to six.

Designer Haden Emslie has combined his talents and attention to detail with kitchen and bathroom designer Ingrid Geldof Design, one of New Zealand’s most awarded design companies.

Features include double garaging, ski drying cupboards, fitted joinery, solid construction, energy efficiency and a comprehensive heating and water heating system. Each house will be fitted out with the latest appliances and high quality fittings, including a full home entertainment system.

The carefully considered landscape design by Paddy Baxter is one of elegant simplicity with dry stacked stone walls, paving, block planting and an expansive ‘infinity’ lawn running to the edges of the golf course.

Millbrook has strict design controls in place on the land to ensure consistent high standards of style and design for developments at the resort.

The Coronet Square master plan incorporates the history and natural features of the site including rock outcrops, water races, hand stacked schist walls, wetlands and Mill Stream, which meanders the length of the resort.

Designed to retain Millbrook’s understated and elegant style of architecture, with strong references to Central Otago gold mining and farming history reflecting the rural tranquility of the site, each home maximises outlook and privacy.

The position of each of the homes has been carefully thought through with each site fanned in a ‘koru’ shape overlooking the first and third fairways and greens.

More than 95% of Millbrook West will be open or green space, with walking trails connecting Queenstown and Arrowtown.

Expressions of interest can be registered obligation-free by contacting Austin Bragg on Austin.Bragg@millbrook .co.nz or calling +64 3 441 7062.

Millbrook Voted Among Best Overseas Golf Resorts

Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook resort has been named among the world’s best golf resorts in a prestigious Australian travel magazine.

The Luxury Travel and Style magazine has placed Millbrook 4th in its list of best overseas golf resorts, behind the likes of Scotland’s legendary St Andrews course, Pebble Beach in California and the Banyan Tree in Phuket, Thailand.

“It is especially rewarding to have been recognised by the readers and subscribers of Luxury Travel and Style magazine, people who travel widely and have chosen to list us among the best of the best, ” said Millbrook General Manager Jan Hunt.

In July last year, the Queenstown resort was named for the third year among the top 25 hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, one of only four New Zealand properties to make the list in the prestigious Travel & Leisure annual World’s Best reader’s poll.

In late November, Millbrook was also official hotel for the hugely successful Michael Hill New Zealand Golf Open, an arrangement that will continue for a further two years.

Long regarded as one of New Zealand’s top golf courses, the 18-hole Sir Bob Charles-designed championship course at Millbrook resort has been on the receiving end of an extensive upgrade and modification programme.

‘Strategic bunkering’ is now the name of the game at the five-star resort, where the introduction of twenty-eight new bunkers, the remodeling of another seventeen and the removal of sixteen existing traps (all in the opening 14 holes) have made life just that little more interesting for players.

The bunker upgrades are stage one of a million dollar golf course modification and come off the back of significant recent resort investment including a $10 million villa interiors refurbishment, the refurbishment of the popular Hole In One café, the establishment of a new world class driving range facility, and work starting on a half billion dollar, 200-plus home housing development and additional nine-hole golf course.
