Unemployment Rises

Investors didn't let bad news take the wind out of their sails, as unemployment rises investors focused their attention towards gold's advance to an all-time high. Unemployment rates rose above 10% last month from 9.8% in September, this marks the first time since October 1983 that the rate was so high. Labor Department reported 190,000 jobs were lost in October, economists expected a loss of 175,000 jobs. The loss in jobs shows that experts were right, unemployment will rise more before settling, however the good news is that the number of people being laid off is falling. People who are losing their job from one sector anent properly trained for the professions that are hiring, employees don't have the money to hire people they have to fully train, they are more likely to hire someone who already has the qualifications for that particular job. The number of total hours worked in the economy fell 0.2%, the average work week was at a record-low of 33 hours. Health care and education along with business professionals were the only major sectors to add more jobs, there was a large drop in the number of people who call themselves self-employed this month, teenagers also affected the unemployment rate, the number of teenagers unemployed soared to 27.6%, up 1.8%. Analysts expect jobs to pick up hopefully by spring, with the holiday moths coming up, more businesses are hiring temporary workers which usually leads to more people being hired permanently. Putting the bad news aside, gold broke through the $1,100 level this morning, gold has been climbing higher and higher as the dollar continues to fall, analysts expect the surge in gold prices to continue maybe even eventually reach the $1,500 mark, this week alone gold rose 5%. Bond prices also rose, the yield on the benchmark 10- year Treasury note fell to 3.50 from 3.53 Thursday, as gold prices soar crude oil prices fell, oil fell $2 today in morning trading.

Nonfarm Payrolls:
U.S. October Nonfarm Payrolls fell 190K; compared to consensus of a decrease by 175K; U.S. October Manufacturing Payrolls fell 61K; Service Producing fell 61K; U.S. September Payrolls Revised to fall 219K from a decrease by 263K.

Unemployment Rate:
U.S. September Unemployment Left Unrevised at 9.8%; U.S. October Unemployment Rate 10.2%; compared to consensus of 9.9%; U.S. Unemployment Rate highest since April 1983.

Average Hourly Earnings:
U.S. October Average Hourly Earnings rose 0.05 to $18.72.

Average Weekly Hours:
U.S. October Overall Workweek 0.0 Hour to 33.0 Hours.

Wholesale Inventories:
U.S. September Wholesale Inventories fell 0.9%; was expected to fall 1.0%.

Consumer Credit:
U.S. September Consumer Credit Decreased $14.8B; Drop in U.S. consumer credit marks eighth consecutive decline; August consumer credit Revised to down $9.9B from down $12.0B.
