The spoiled brats were gifted a VERY nice new cat tree yesterday. It’s about 6″ shorter than our previous cat tree, but the design is completely different. For one, Sylvester actually FITS!!

All three of them have been interested in it. Even Doby checked it out before Ginger chased him away. As I type this, Doby is happily sleeping in the cat bed at the bottom of the tree. That’s where he’s the happiest.

This face though!! Oh my goodness… such content! I think he’s happy to have someplace high to sleep where he’s not hanging over the edge of the platform.

The toy box in the bedroom – an old shoe box – was getting a bit unruly. I decided that I would try and find something suitable for toy storage while out Christmas clearance shopping. I stumbled across these cute little bins at Target for just 0.90 each!

I spent a nice chunk of time this morning gathering up all the toy bins, weeding through and throwing away old toys. I did NOT move the couches to get all the toys that have been sent flying under there. I also did not move any furniture on the third floor where I know a lot more toys are also stashed. Those are projects for another day.

When all was said and done, we were left with FOUR red bins full of toys! Uh yeah… there are no spoiled cats here. Nope, not at all!

The cats seem to like the bins. Sylvester and Ginger have both been caught happily removing toys from the bins. At least now we have nice tidy bins we can just toss toys back into when we’re cleaning. One small step to less clutter around here.

Recently the gang held a meeting to discuss how to prevent Dave from getting any work done. They tell me it was a successful meeting, as they report they did not see him near his desk for the rest of the day.

In any case – meet Doby and Ginger!!

Doby and Ginger came to live with us August 29th. They came out of a hoarding situation and the shelter wanted to adopt them out together. We were told they were both 6 years old, but their paperwork indicates Ginger might be 4 and Doby might be 8. After getting to know them a bit, these ages seem quite accurate.

Ginger is a spunky little torti who has no teeth! How a 4 year old cat ends up with no teeth we’ll never know. Puzzling. She is fully acclimated into the house and loves to pal around with Sylvester. She’s half Sylvester’s size but chases him around and terrorizes him! He acts upset about this, but then they’re back to hanging around together. He has even been known to chase Ginger.

Doby had 7 teeth removed just prior to coming to live with us. Do you have any idea how much fun it is to give medicine to a shy cat who doesn’t know you?!?! As soon as we were done with the antibiotics, it was back to the vet and then 2 weeks of ear drops. If I thought the antibiotics were fun… oh boy, the refrigerated ear drops for a shy cat who doesn’t know you is a million times MORE FUN! Doby walks with a limp, but it doesn’t seem to bother him much at all. The shelter offered to pay for an xray, and we took them up on that offer so we could get a better understanding of what the issue was. I was very surprised to hear there was no sign of a break at any point. It’s simply severe joint degeneration caused by a previous ligament or tendon injury when he was younger. The shelter had been told he’d had this limp since he was a kitten. Doby is the goofiest love bug I have EVER met! Not a care in the world and very curious about everything – as long as he doesn’t get overwhelmed and spooked. We still have a long way to go with him. He’s quite content to continue living on the third floor for now.

Cats coming from a hoarding situation, while often quite shy, do have some advantages. We were worried about how Sylvester would do with these guys. Doby and Ginger are used to cats so Sylvester hasn’t been much of a bother at all! They don’t react to him, so he doesn’t react back. Everyone is adjusting quite nicely. Sylvester really enjoys hanging out on the third floor with Doby. I know they’re getting into trouble up there when I hear a lot of noise. I just haven’t figured out what they are up to…

Happy Fall from Doby, Ginger, and Sylvester!!!

It has been a rough year for all of us! We lost Rebel to cancer/age in October, Peyton to lymphoma in February, and Moosey to kidney failure in July. Suddenly Sylvester went from a house full of mutts – to being the only mutt left. As hard as it has been on the humans in the house, this poor little guy doesn’t know what hit him! That has been the hardest thing to deal with.

Ah… but something is brewing…

Sylvester doesn’t quite know what’s going on, but he can tell that *something* is going on. What little he has been allowed to know he has reacted quite favorably to.

Soon… Things will all fall into place soon.

For now, we wait…

This is how the afternoon went.

Dave had to go out for the evening though, so I was stuck with 17 lbs of ANGRY! Sylvester yelled at me when I got home, then made it clear that I was NOT who he wanted to see walk through that door.

He followed me around most of the evening, but when I sat at my desk THIS is what I got! His eyes never left me…

A couple hours later, I REALLY needed Dave to come home!! I sat down on the couch for a minute and that was the end of my evening. 17 lbs of ANGRY parked in my lap and would.NOT.move.
