Millionaire Thinking - How is the most important?

What a fantastic day! What do Millionaires think about? What is the most important task to do?

Robert Allen is a wealth of information. Why is the mind so powerful? Can you really change your life by changing your thinking and being around positive people? You bet you can ! Life is good, life is GREAT !!!!!

It is alright to procrastinate, but only if we procrastinate doing the right things. What are you scared of? Do you make a list, do the list and then at the end of the day.... GUESS what is left? One of the most important things you needed to do, but where too scared to do it. Kept on procrastinating. Right ??

Listening to one of Robert Allen's "Empowerment tapes" I came across a story, (and I apologize as I can not remember who wrote it) The jest of it was: A king wanted to know the answers to three questions:

Who is the most important?
What is the most important task?
When is the most important time?

All the wise people came to give him advise but no one could really gave him an answer. So he sought out a hermit who was the wisest of all. When the king went to see him, the king dressed in plain clothes, and a way off, he left his guards with the horses and walked to the hermit. He found the hermit digging in the garden. He asked the hermit the questions, but he did not answer. So the King, asked to take the gardening tools from the old hermit and proceeded to help with the gardening. All that day he did not answer. The king was getting upset as he did not have the answers. When through the bush came an old man with a stomach wound, bleeding to death. The king went to help this man, and clean and dressed his wounds over and over, until the bleeding stopped. He was so tired that the King fell asleep by this man's bedside. In the morning when the king awoke, the man was staring at him and begging his forgiveness. "You don't know who I am do you?" he asked the King. "No." was the king's reply. The man said he was the brother, to a man that the King has taken all his property from and killed him. So he was here to seek revenge on the King and kill him. He however came upon the guards and they recognized him and beat him near to death, but he escaped. Then then came upon the King and collapsed, and the King bound his wounds. He was grateful for the compassion of the King and seeked his forgiveness. They made peace and the King sent the man home, with his physician and returned his lands to him.

The King then found the old hermit again in his garden planting seeds. He again asked the hermit for the answers. This time the hermit replied, "When you came and seen me in the garden, you took the time to help. I was the most important PERSON then. You seen that I needed help, and that was the most important TASK. You were there and helped me, that was the most important TIME. The same goes for the man. He was the most important person, at the time and he needed your help. That was the most important task, to bind up his wounds. Instead of having an enemy, you now have an eternally grateful friend."

So in answers to the questions:

The person that you are with at the time is the most important person.
The task at you are doing at the time, is the most important task. Be there in the moment, give it all you have. Listen, learn, enjoy.
The most important time, is NOW! Be there.

A very good saying is "I will do today what others don't, so tomorrow I can have what others won't." That is how winners and millionaires think. It is a Georgian Style Mansion with a porch and columns reaching from the porch to the roof. It is amazing, when I show people this house, they laugh at me and say, "ya right". It is the sceptics that laugh, and if they don't laugh, then our goals and dreams aren't big enough.

#6) Changing your Reality is a SNAP: Do you ever have a voice in your head that says,"Why to go! You can do it! You are the absolute best!" or are the voices more like:"Who do you think you are? You can't do that." Do you have negative or positive going off in your head?
For the longest time all that was going on in my head, was the negative, you can't do it syndrome. But now life is good. I know that I am succeeding and that things are working out for me. I am always at the right place at the right time. I also worn a rubber band on my wrist for 30 days. Every time I had a negative thought, or thought that I couldn't do it, I would SNAP my wrist. Guess what happened the next couple of days? Yep, my wrist was pretty red. After a few days it wasn't so bad. Now, life is good, as I have a positive outlook.

Continuing on with the Millionaire Ahas from "The One Minute Millionaire" by Robert G. Allen and Mark Victor Hansen.

#3) Live life above the line: I used to live below the line all the time, and at times I still do. On the top of the line is LEARN, below the line is BLAME. When something would go wrong I would get mad, and "blame" myself for not being "good enough" or "stupid" or "can't do it" or "nothing ever goes right for me". Then I would wallow in self pity. Have you ever had these kinds of feelings?
Now I am trying to take responsibility for my actions. If something goes wrong or doesn't work out, it doesn't mean I am "stupid" or "can't do it". It's just I didn't go about it in the right way. What can I LEARN from this situation in order to succeed and make it better? It's OK to vent and get out your frustration (but only for a bit), then pick yourself up, and then see what you can do to make it better.
To me, living above the line, is acknowledge when something goes wrong, get your frustration out, then move on. Find ways to make it work.

#4) Abundance is your natural state: I think I mentioned this before. Growing up I was always taught that "money" was bad. People who had money were "dishonest". That isn't true. As long as our thinking is right, and it is for the "good" of others, and we "tithe". Abundance is our destiny. There is more than enough for everyone. Just because you start bringing in more abundance, does not mean that someone will go "without". There is no way, there is more than enough to go around.

Oh what a glorious day! There are so many "Millionaire Ahas" that I would like to share a few of them with you. I know that you will enjoy them and feel enlightened.

These come from Robert G Allen (Nothing Down) and Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul) from their book "The One Minute Millionaire".

Now onward and upward. These are fantastic and I am grateful that I am able to share them with you. One of the first things that those who have wealth share is: DECIDE: decide that you want to become a millionaire. Decide that there is nothing wrong with becoming a millionaire. Just DECIDE !

#1) Everyone Manifests: I have mentioned this before. What we think about all the time, is what we become. What are your most prominent thoughts? Do you always think about "oh, I have no money to pay my bills." or "All I ever get are bills" or "Nothing good ever happens to me". Do any of these sound familiar? They do to me, because I have said them all.

Lately though, everything has been going my way. I am grateful that I have bills, because that means I have a roof over my head, food to eat, vehicles to drive and so forth. What you think about, is what comes into your life. It may happen quickly, or it may happen slowly. Either way, it happens. Enjoy life, and believe that you deserve it.

#2) BE-DO-HAVE: Being a millionaire, or wealthy, or abundant. To me is all about leaving people in a better place than when you found them. Giving and doing for others. I'm not saying giving them a "hand-out", but rather a "hand-up". Teach them things that you have learnt, and encourage them. Give your time, talents, knowledge, just GIVE!
So BElieve that you are already a millionaire, able to help yourself, family and friends.
Then DOing what you love to do. Why wait until you are a millionaire, to do what you love? Begin now. Not sure what it is you love to do? An example of the feeling would be: You have eaten your favorite meal: steak, lobster, crab, potatoes, a wonderful salad and you are stuffed. There is NO way you can eat another bite. Then, your absolute favorite, mouth watering dessert has just been placed in front of you. Oh, but you can't possibly eat another bite. You are STUFFED. But that dessert is mouth watering, melt in your mouth favorite. You know what, even though you are STUFFED, you are somehow able to find room.

That is the same with what you love. You come home from work, have a busy evening or weekend planned, but somehow you find the time to do that hobby. Start small and work your way up.
Then HAVE all that it is you desire. Thinking of others, and helping them achieve a greater sense of purpose in their life is a wonderful thing. And it comes back to you in ABUNDANCE.

Remember: As you think, so you become.

Allow yourself to Dream ! ! !

Let's take a little break. Do you allow yourself to Dream ? And dream BIG ? ? ?

When I was growing up, I was not encouraged to dream, or have plans. Work, work hard, and be honest. Don't ask or dream about money because it is evil. People who have money aren't honest and don't help anyone.

I have come to realize something. I hope you have as well. It is OK to think about money, ask for money, believe that you will receive money, wealth, health and abundance. It's the attitude and what and why we want abundance. Is it for selfish reasons? Or are we willing to help others?

Let's go back. What do you love to do?

Now, let's say you have all the riches and abundance flowing endlessly to you. What would you do with that money? There are little things right now that you can do to feel like a millionaire. (But don't go into debt to do it)

Go for a massage
Have someone come in and clean your home
Go on a mini vacation (near your home)
Buy yourself flowers
Rent your favorite vehicle to drive (everyone always talks about cars, me personally I love trucks)
Go for lunch with your friends and pay
Go for a "special" dine out experience and don't even look at the prices.

These are just a few things you can do to feel like a millionaire. Dream and dream BIG!!!!

What do you "really" want from life?

Do you really know what you want in life? Why is it so hard to implement or change ones thinking?

It seems that most people go through a mid-life crisis, and every one is different. It seems to be around 40ish (it could be sooner or later) men and women alike seem to hit a ‘wake up call’ so to speak, where one ponders their life legacy. Everyone reacts in a different way and therefore handles their situation in their own way.

For me, at first, it was frustrating as there were all these feelings and emotions that I couldn’t figure out. Feelings of self doubt, failure, resentment, anger, and that the world was passing me by. What difference have I made in the world?

Then I had an “uh huh” moment. I wasn’t happy with myself, no kidding, when you constantly beat yourself up, how can you be happy with yourself? I definitely needed a reality check and change a few things. I figured I had two choices:
1. I could continue on in my miserable, self-centered, self-pity life and make my husband, children and everyone else around me miserable, or
2. Take stock of my life. Count my blessings, make changes in my attitude and move forward in a more productive, prosperous, healthy, fun loving life. Accept what was in the past (for the past can not be changed) and change direction.

Guess you can figure out which path I choose to take. Being 40 isn’t bad; it’s all in how you handle it. It was a good thing for me, as it forced me to really decide “what do I want out of life?” I have a saying on my front door, “Knowing WHAT you are trying to do is more important than knowing HOW you are going to do it.” (I can’t remember which book I got that quote from). That was my problem. The saying has been on my doors for YEARS! But the internalizing and feeling and direction wasn’t there, and I didn’t KNOW what I wanted. No direction, just dreaming, hoping, fantasizing that everything would turn out just peachy. Well everyone knows, “a dream is only a wish if it is not written”. Was only living life one day at a time, caught up in the rat race of everything I needed to do and get done. Work, work, children, work, taking care of the house, work, and everything else that goes with being a wife, mother, sister, friend, in-law, daughter and the list goes on and on.

I am now taking charge of my life, and it is a whole lot better. Great things are happening this year. I will fill you in more later.

Have you ever wondered how powerful the mind is? It is a fascinating matter that allows us to accomplish so much.

I had an experience over the weekend that I would like to share. I was talking with a friend whom I had not seen for awhile. She was down in the dumps with life in general and her health. She was trying to be up beat. It wasn't that she wasn't happy, but was struggling. Then something interesting happened. She started to tell me about a "retreat" she wanted to go on, and the things she hoped it would help her accomplish. As she was talking, she started to talk about what she wanted in life. What got her excited, and what she dreamed about. I shared with her a few things to do, (ie: build a dream board, write down what she really wanted as if it already had happened). We talked for about 45 minutes, and in that time, she went from feeling, so - so, to having the light beaming from her eyes. As she shared what she wanted in life, and what excited her, her whole disposition changed. It was amazing.

The brain is a powerful asset that we have. All we need to do, is to tap into its capabilities, and our own possibilities are then endless.

How many successful people do you know? I know a few and have learnt a great deal from them. What is their secret?

Have you ever heard that successful people have taken the time to figure out exactly what it is that they want. Not only what they want, but want they want to become, and achieve in life. Then they invest the time and effort into making it happen. Every day they dedicate time that will help further their goals, and do activities that are consistent with their ideals.

There is a saying by: Tommy Newberry: "When you try to get something for nothing, you become nothing".

Becoming wealthy, healthy and wise and success, are you willing to invest your time and energy? I am, and I am so grateful at how things are working out for me. They can work out for you as well. It is so worth it in the end.

Success is not an Accident

Have you ever wondered why successful people are so successful? Is success an accident? Or is it something one must work at? WOW!!!

I know that "Success Is NOT an Accident ! It, like everything else in life, one must work at it. We live at a wonderful time. There are so many options and opportunities for us to prosper and succeed. Does it come easy? Do we have to work at it? Of course we do.

Success, Prosperity, Wealth, Go Health, Loving relations, and a great family life all take work. Let me compare all of the above to a garden. Say you want an abundant, fruitful vegetable garden. You have a nice plot of rich soil. Every day you go out and visualize all the wonderful vegetables you are eating and enjoying. You talk to the earth, and imagine a wonderful feast upon your table. Your mouth is watering. You do this all summer long and in the fall, you go out to your vegetable plot, and still nothing. It is still a nice black piece of dirt.

It's one thing to write down a clear precise goal, visualize and dream, but where was the work? The doing part of the equation? Everything in life requires clear goals, visualize with feeling, and then action on your part to implement it.

Now let's look at the garden again. You go and till the earth, plant the seeds, and mark the rows. Then as the seedlings start to appear, you hoe and weed, and water. As they continue to grow, you also do thinning out. For if you do not, they will choke each other, and not grow to their full potential.

Now, as you talk to your plants, weed, water, hoe, and visualize your abundance at the end of the season your garden is prosperous. And the full enjoyment is yours.

So it is with Wealth, Health and whatever it is that you want from life.

In Tommy Newberry's book: "Success Is Not An Accident" he shares that our success will bless not only our lives, but also the lives of other people. As we do this, our abundance will continue to prosper.

He says:

Develop a meaningful definition of success
Accept complete responsibility for your choices
Eliminate excuses
Become a doer
Tune in to prosperity

I really like #2. I have found of late, that some people like to play the "blame game" (even my children do this, every well) Instead of stepping up to the plate, and admit that you did something, there is a feeling that is it better to "blame" someone else or make excuses. My feeling is, no matter what the consequences, it is better to "own" up to it. Yes, it is hard and takes courage, but in the long run, doesn't it turn out better? Others will see you as someone who is: honest, trustworthy, full of integrity and is reliable.

Another beautiful day as the big fluffy white snowflakes fall gently to the ground. The new fallen snow makes the earth and trees look so beautiful and clean. I would love everyday just to enjoy the things that I love to do, and have to worry about going to work. Doing what I love and interest me. What are your interests?

Richard Carlson has said: "Passion for life and for our work is a critical element of success and abundance. Passion is a virtually unstoppable, attitudinal force that generates energy, creativity and productivity. When you love what you do, it's difficult not to succeed."

What is the Law of Attraction?

Have you ever wondered what the "Law of Attraction Is? Have you heard of "The Secret". I'm sure most people have, as it is now the latest "new thing". But you know, there is some truth in it. Of course there are always those who don't believe, so they condemn it, or say it is false. Then again, that is true with everything.

I am fascinated by it all. Just trying to get myself into a better place. Using bits of knowledge from all over. Just like "Feng Shei". If you would like to know more on it: GO HERE

My thinking is: "If you can learn one thing from something, then it is not a waste of time". As you can always learn from every source. Just never give up, never ever give up.

What have I learnt about the Law of Attraction?

ASK: What is it that I really want? Be clear about this, and write it down as if you have already received it.
ANSWER: Remember earlier when I mentioned that I had this saying on my wall : "KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO, IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KNOW HOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT". Once you are clear on what you want, let it go and don't dwell or obsess over it. Your job isn't to get it done, your job is to know what you want and be clear about. Everything else will take care of itself.
RECEIVE: Feel and visualize as if you already have it. Be at one with it and feel joy about receiving it. The feeling will bring it about quicker.

We are always playing mind games with ourselves, but remember: What you think about most (in a possitive, feeling way) comes to be. But the other deeper part of the "law of attraction" is this: What you desire, must also be for the good of others.

Success Is Not An Accident !

WOW! What an amazing week. There are some "Ahas" that I have had that I wanted to share with you. First though, did you know that "Success is not an accident!" We are what we think !!!! This is so amazing.

I have been reading and having discussions with friends and family, and this stuff is really working. It is absolutely true. WE ARE WHAT WE THINK !!

I am getting ahead of myself, there is so much too share. Let's go a little deeper. I was reading a book by Sandy Forster. "Wildly Wealthy". In there she shared a list of putting it together.

Again, these are very simple and easy to do:

Become clear on what it is you desire.
Write down your desire.
Visualize your desire as already in your life.
Feel your desire deep inside and know it's already your.
Feel grateful it's yours.
Confirm your order by taking action.
Then let it go. You must detach. This is the one I was having trouble on. Then I had a "AHA" moment that I would like to share with you. I called my brother up to ask for his "option" as he is older and smarter than me. And I look up to him. Anyways, I asked, "why do you think there are more "male" millionaires, than "female" millionaires? I then said this is my thought. Most men think in compartments, one thing at a time. They do one task at a time, when that is done, they move on to the next, and so on. Women on the other hand, (for the most part) we multi-task, think about 100 things at once. Remember things that happened years ago, and dwell on them. We are nurturing and hold onto everything. Our problem is, WE DON'T LET GO OF THINGS!!!!! Or, rather, we have a hard time DETACHING. We are the caretakers so we have to make sure everything is happening and working out. It is up to us. His respond was, "Yep, that's pretty much it."

I knew this, but it was sinking in, as I was holding onto everything, thinking I needed to do it and take care of it. He then told me, I was doubly cursed, because not only was I a female, but also the way we were brought up regarding money, I had that misconception ingrained into me as well. Not only that, but I am stubborn. Well, talk about brotherly love.

Anyways, my tip for today is do the above exercise, and THEN DETACH ! Success is not an accident, we are what we think and do in our lives.

Multiple Streams of Income

WOW! What a wonderful day. There are Multiple Streams of Income Everywhere!

Let's do a little recap:

1) Is it hard to "Decide to Be Wealthy"? - wake up every morning and exclaim with glee " TODAY, I DECIDE TO BE WEALTHY!" feel it and believe it. Wow, how refreshing is that?

2) What can one do to "Take responsibility for your Money"? - just by tracking your expenses daily for 3 months is a real eye opener. Gets one thinking, "do I really NEED this? or do I just simply WANT it?

Giving back

Good morning to all. It is a wonderful day today as I share this wonderful "tip" with you.
What does "Giving Back" mean to you?

I'd like to start with a passage that I am sure many of you already know.
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10

I have been so blessed in my life, that I enjoy giving back. A few years ago I have the opportunity to go with each of my parents to the country they were born in. (The Ukraine) I took two separate trips to two different parts of the Ukraine. It was a wonderful experience to see where I had come from. The way how life was over there was much different from Canada. Not so much the day to day, as I grew up without running water, and an outhouse, so that didn't really bother me.

It was the freedom I am allowed to partake in. If I want to go and buy a car, I go buy one. There, they would save and save, put an order in, then when they had the money, maybe the car was there, and maybe it wasn't.

Over here, our shelves in the grocery store or any other store, the shelves are bursting with product. There not so much.

So what does this all have to do with "Giving Back"? Everything. In a land of opportunity, why are we so stingy? Live life with Gratitude - living with a thankful heart! Remember what I mentioned a few days ago about money being like water? If water is standing, it becomes stagnate and die, (so does money). As water moves and flows, it blesses everything it touches. So with money. As you share your wealth, knowledge, skills, not only will your life expand and become richer, so does the lives of others. The circle of life. Ever here the saying, "what goes around comes around?" This is so true.

As the passage above suggests, test this law. You give, and it will come back tenfold. I can not live without this principle. This is also part of the Law of Attraction. Millionaires use this all the time. It doesn't matter if you give $1.00 or $10,000.00. Just give, give with all your heart and soul.

I truly have enjoyed "The Secret", but like everything it can be a friend or foe. I am applying the tips in my life and it is amazing. Take a look at this.

Winning In The Margins

Welcome back to another wonderful day. What does "Winning In the Margins" mean?

From my understanding, it is find something on the side to do to earn extra money. But first I would like to ask you how you are doing on:
1) Deciding to Be Wealthy - has this thought changing process been easy for you?
2) Taking Responsibility for your Money - have you been keeping track of where it is coming from, and going?
3) Keeping a Portion of Everything you are Earning - have you started paying yourself first?

I have a full time job, but I know that there is something else out there for me that I absolutely love to do. I enjoy helping others, and seeing others succeed. Education is a great tool. For me sharing the knowledge I have with others, to make their lives better. (ie: with essential oils. Empowering them to gain knowledge of how they work, so they can make their own products instead of paying a high price for them)

To me winning in the margins is doing something that you love, make money at it, and in time you can quit your job if you so desire. But the extra money you make, can be used for whatever you desire. (retirement, vacation, pay down debt, the sky is the limit)

Most people I know have a hobby that they enjoy doing. Well, why not make money at it as well.

Keep A Portion of Everything you Earn

Welcome back. Keeping on with some of the Millionaire Secrets, Multiple Streams of Income, The Secret and the Law of Attraction.
I covered #1: Decide to Be Wealthy. #2: Take Responsibility for Your Money

Today I would like to share with you #3: Keep a Portion of Everything You Earn

Why do I think this is important? Have you ever seen money come in one hand, and even quicker go out the other? yep, me too. While I have been keeping track of my money (daily - monthly) I found I was spending more than 10% on JUNK! Stuff I didn't really need or want.

Recently I went to a seminar with Megan Gehlar (Money Make Overs for Women) She shared a simple formula that I would like to share with you.

She called it, "the bottom line of my system"
50% NEEDS - bills, food, gas
20% WANTS
10% TITHING
20% SAVINGS (if you have debt then give 10% savings and 10% to go to pay down debt)

This is how I applied this to my situation.
50% NEEDS - Going to bills, food, gas, household expenses
10% WANTS - This is my fun, do whatever I want to money
10% DISNEY - We are going to Disney World as a family, and this is an easy way to put money aside a little at a time. It is amazing how quickly it is adding up.
10% TITHING - I have always giving 10% of my earning to my church. I do it with a grateful heart and full of gratitude. I know that it is being put to good use. (This could also be to a favorite charity or cause that you believe in) As long as you give and with a grateful heart.
10% SAVING - This is my emergency fund, that I can later put into RRSP to continue to grow.
10% PAYING DOWN DEBT - If I have credit card balances or mortgage, this is extra money that I put down. It sure is nice seeing the balance getting smaller and smaller. If the debt is getting smaller, than my NET WORTH is getting BIGGER. (And I like that, how about you?)

Just on the subject of tithing and giving let me share a story. This is when my husband was first introduced to "Tithing". He didn't like the idea much. He worked hard for his money and didn't want to part with it.

One Sunday at church, he took his envelope to the Bishop and kind of threw it on the desk and said, "here's my tithing" and turned to leave. The Bishop replied in a kind and loving voice, "you really don't want to pay it do you?" "NO," was the reply of my husband. "Then take the envelope back, if you are not going to give it with a grateful heart, then I don't want it." With that he handed it back to my husband. He took it and left. Needless to say, after pondering what the Bishop had said to him, but the time church was over, he gave it back to the Bishop.

As with anything, be GRATEFUL that you can give, or even that you have bills to pay. I know what you're thinking. Be grateful to pay bills??? Of course. I look at it this way: If I have a mortgage, it means I have a home. I have an electricity, phone, gas bill, it means I have power that I can cook meals, light my home to see, keep warm in the winter, and able to stay in touch with family and friends. If I pay taxes, it means I have a job. You can turn it into a negative or positive. Isn't there too much negativity already in the world? What you put out there, is what you get back.

It's easy to keep a portion of everything you earn. Either have it deducted from your paycheck. Could even do envelopes or jars or boxes. I like to go to the bank, after I have broken everything down, and put it in envelopes. I am a visual person, I LIKE TO SEE IT GROW. Find what works for you. Remember, bit by bit, here a little there a little. It will grow. Millions don't happen overnight (unless you win the lottery) slow and steady wins the race !!

What are the Millionaire Secrets? How can one obtain Multiple Streams of Income?

Welcome, and thank you for joining me. May this be an exciting journey for us. Most want to be wealthy, and not worry about were money is coming from for bills. (And even have some for "playing") We work and work, and seem to never get ahead. Or, just when you think you see the light at the end of the tunnel, WHAM! something comes along and puts you right back where you started, or further behind. Sound familiar? Or is this just happening to me??? Nope, didn't think so.

Life isn't a "get rich scheme" (unless you win the lottery), but we have all heard the saying, "slow and steady wins the race". For me, this seems to be working. Bit by bit I am seeing my NET WORTH increase. This is a GREAT feeling!

This is going to be an exciting journey as we explore the endless possibilities which are out there. Just waiting for us to grab and embrace. Are you ready?

First, I would like to share with you why I am here and what got me started. My life was in a rut and I wanted out. Either change my attitude or stay stuck spinning my wheels. So I'm getting out. It sure isn't easy, but, IT IS WORTH IT.

I read a book by Richard Paul Evans called "The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me". It was simple and easy to understand and it got the "thinking" juices started. I was not happy where I was. We had money coming in, BUT . . . where was it going???? Has this thought ever crossed your mind?

In a nut shell, these are the 5 Lessons:

Decide to be wealthy.
Take responsibility for your money.
Keep a portion of everything you earn.
Win in the margins.
Give back.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? Don't let the simpleness trick you. The simplest things usually cause us the most grief. WHY? Because it is simple and we don't think it will work.

A few years ago I was in my late 30's, three small children under the age of 10. Working 2 part-time jobs which turned into full-time. My husband also working 2 jobs, and NO money!!!! What was wrong with this picture? Ever feel like you are spinning your wheels and going nowhere FAST? Stress was taking it's toll and had me headed for somewhere I did not want to be. I decided I needed to educate myself. So, I started reading.

The above book was one of the first. I started implementing some of the principles. (I will go into each one in more detail in coming days) For now: lets just start with #1 and #2.

1. Decide to be wealthy! - Period. I made up business cards with the words, "TODAY, I DECIDE TO BE WEALTHY!" I put them all over the house where I could see them. In my wallet, so when I went to spend money this card was staring me in the face. (Sounds crazy, but it worked, I didn't want to spend) Every morning when I wake up, and throughout the day I say, "TODAY, I DECIDE TO BE WEALTHY!" (it's one thing to just say it, it has more meaning and power when you put FEELING into it.) Feel the words, and internalize them. Feel them as you are saying them, and breath slow, and deep.

2. Take Responsibility for Your Money! - Have you ever heard parents say to their children, "Take responsibility for your actions". Or maybe you have even said it once or twice. Don't feel bad, I say it to my children ALL the time. It's the same with money. It's your money, your choices. If it is leaving your hand, then at least know where it is going.

With this I did two things.

First - I started tracking daily what I was spending, where, and how much. Also keeping track of what was coming in. I've been doing this since September, and it is scary seeing where the money is flying out the window. I didn't realize how much we were spending on JUNK! Now I think twice before I spend. I asked myself if I really need it, or do I want it.

This is simple: get a piece of paper at the top write: Money Coming In, have a few slots, so any money coming in, goes in there.

Then, either down the side or across the top, write your most common expenses. IE: Bills, (I just clump all the bills in this category) Entertainment, Food, Gas, Insurance, Take Out, Savings, Misc. Then every day, I write down what I have spend under the headings. At the end of the month, I total all the columns. Then I subtract my total spending from my total earning and hopefully my earnings are greater.

This way you can track your spending and make adjustments.

Second - I started with my Net Worth. I made two columns. One for Assets and one for Liabilities.

Column One:

ASSETS: Cash on hand, checking accounts, savings accounts, any money owed you, Stocks, Bonds, GICs, etc.
FIXED ASSETS: Home, vehicles, furniture, jewellery, tools, etc.
DEFERRED ASSETS: Any RRSP.
I then totalled these all up.

Column Two:

LIABILITIES: Credit cards, Insurances, Property taxes, Lines of Credit, phone bills, energy and power bills, etc.
LONG TERM LIABILITIES: Auto loans, leases, RSP loans, mortgages, etc.
I then totalled these all up.

Then you subtract Total Liabilities from Total Assets and this . . . is your NET WORTH!

I have been so excited doing this over the past year, to see our Net Worth constantly GROW! There is just something about seeing my money grow, that gets my blood pumping.
