I am happy that I was able to purchase yet another book by Aysha Mubashira just in time before she closed her online shop last night! This book is called "Festival Motifs 2"

The book has approximately 14 pages of beautiful, simple, yet elegant full hand designs. On each page you will find designs for each hand and a small motif design that be used as a simple stand alone. I do have this book on my list of video reviews for my YouTube subscribers as well. My book that I ordered from Henna Sooq, Indian Motifs by Asha Savla arrived today! It has about 28 pages of lovely henna motifs that you can create multiple variations of your choice. The book has plenty of ideas for fillers, peacocks, paisleys and other unique motif designs. The book retails for $19.95 and I have not found it for anything cheaper, unless you buy it directly from India or have someone that can send it for you. I will plan on doing a design from it sometime soon.

How to Series: Make your own Henna Paste 101 Basics

It is essential for any henna artist to know to make their own henna paste. There are several suppliers online that will make the henna paste for you, but it tends to get expensive in the longer run. You will find a few good resources on YouTube that provide you with step by step instructions on how to do this and I will include links to those below this post. So, lets get started.

Making your own henna paste involves the following 7 basic steps:

1) Selecting the best quality, freshest grade, pre-sifted Henna powder
2) Adding a high quality acidic liquid (most commonly used: fresh lime or lemon juice)
3) Adding a sacchride of your choice to the mixture to help the henna silky smooth (most commonly used: sugar or honey). If you like to know more henna and sugar, visit the Henna Page Encylopedia of Henna
4) Allowing the mixture sit for at least 12 hours
5) Terping the mixture by adding your choice of essential oils
6) Allowing the mixture to sit for another 6-8 hours
7) Testing the paste for consistency & color quality

Milwaukee Henna Tips:

1) Mixing bowls & storage: I like to use a sturdy glass mixing bowl when mixing my paste so that I can see when the mixture is changing its color. We also advise that you keep your henna mixing bowls clearly labeled and away from your regular cookware to avoid having to accidentally using them for other purposes!

2) Henna Powder Storage: Store your henna in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry, dark area to maximize its freshness. I store my henna in a large dollar store plastic container that is clearly labeled.

My April Fool's day goodies order from Henna Sooq arrived today in the mail!! I took part in the special 15% off entire order and during special hours could also pick a book (upto $10.00 value) of my choice. I took advantage of this promotion to purchase the Indian Motifs book by Asha Savla. I also got some fresh organic Rajasthani Henna and some carrot bags. I also purchased Aroos a book by Bhavini Gheravara and for my free gift opted to get the Akhaati book by Asha Savla. I am exctited about both these books and I am still awaiting to get the Indian Motifs book. Once I receive that one, I plan on doing a haul video 2. Happy April 1st everyone! Yesterday I mixed up a batch of henna and it is waiting for me to cone it up. I also was taking inventory of my henna powder and I was pleasantly surprised to find about 600grams of Yemen henna!! I am not sure if it is still going to be same strong color it usually produces, but I am going to give it a try this weekend. If nothing else, I can still use it on my hair! If anyone is interested in purchasing this from me, please email me. I have it available for a very reasonable price and it is packaged well in its original packaging from my supplier. I also have 500 grams of Jamila Henna that I know is still going to be good. Other updates that I have are, I am thinking of taking an online class that FreeHandMehndi is offering this weekend for $5.00. If any of you are interested, please check out her website. She is located in the Pacific timezone and she will have the class recorded so that you can still refer back to it after you take the class. Hello friends! It sure has been a long time since this blog has been updated or MilwaukeeHenna has posted any updates. It has been a crazy few years and unfortunately Milwaukee Henna took the back burner in the realm of things. But, I am glad to say that I am slowly trying to get back into it this summer and see how things turn out. MilwaukeeHenna.com has moved and now resides permanently on blogger until I get a new domain for us. We have also moved last year from Glendale, WI to the Historic Cedarburg area. We are very close to the Cedar Creek Settlement and I am currently looking for new clients for the summer and fall months of 2009. After a hectic one week, I am finally back online here!! A project that took my attention away from henna. On another note, I did manage to complete my redesign project of my henna & craft studio yesterday. I think it came together pretty good in the last minute. I still have a few more things I need to just finalize. But I should have some photos posted online by tomorrow. I did receive a request to do henna for a faire this weekend, but due to my hectic schedule I could not get back to her sooner. Hence, a lost oppurtunity... Hopefully will be able to recover this at a later time. But I am building my client list for my newsletter which I hope to have the first one sent during the month of December. It will be by signup only.
