How Art Becomes Worship: Integrating Biblical Art into Everyday Faith

In every brushstroke, color, and image, art has the power to tell a story. When rooted in Scripture, that story becomes more than beauty on canvas—it becomes worship. For centuries, the Church has used art to inspire awe, teach biblical truths, and create sacred spaces that draw people closer to God. Today, biblical art still carries that same power, not only in cathedrals but also in our homes, churches, and personal prayer lives.

As a Christian artist, my desire is for every piece I create to not just be seen, but to be experienced—as a doorway into God’s presence. Here are a few ways you can integrate biblical art into your everyday faith and allow it to become an act of worship.

1. Meditating with Art During Devotional Time

We often think of devotion as reading Scripture and praying, but art can become a companion in that sacred rhythm. Try this:

Choose a piece of art that reflects a scripture or theme God is highlighting in your life. For example, a painting of Jesus calming the storm can anchor your prayers for peace in anxious times.
Sit quietly with the image. Allow your eyes to rest on the colors, shapes, and symbols. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak through what you see.
Pray through the imagery. Let the art guide your meditation. If the painting shows a vine and branches, reflect on John 15 and what it means to remain in Him.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” — John 15:5

Art slows us down. It draws us into stillness. And in that stillness, we often hear God’s whisper more clearly.

2. Creating Spaces of Reflection in Your Home

The walls of your home can preach. By choosing to hang biblical art, you create daily visual reminders of God’s promises.

Hallways or entryways: Place a piece that declares welcome and blessing, reminding all who enter that this is a house of faith.
Living rooms or family spaces: A large print can spark conversations with children, guests, or friends, opening doors to share faith stories.
Prayer corners or home offices: A small framed print by your desk or devotional chair can re-center your focus throughout the day.

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” — Deuteronomy 6:6–9

Many Collectors Club members have told me they’ve created a “faith wall” by displaying each monthly print together—a gallery of God’s Word through art that grows month by month.

3. Gifting Art for Sacred Moments

Biblical art also makes meaningful gifts for life’s holy milestones. Unlike something quickly forgotten, art carries memory, story, and spiritual encouragement for years to come.

Consider gifting a piece for:

Baptisms or confirmations: A visual reminder of new life in Christ.
Weddings or anniversaries: Artwork that symbolizes covenant, unity, or God’s faithfulness.
Small group leaders or pastors: A way of honoring their service and blessing their ministry space.
Friends walking through trials: A tangible encouragement of God’s promises when words may not be enough.

Art becomes more than decoration—it becomes a testimony, passed from one believer to another as an act of love and encouragement.

4. Using Art in Corporate Worship

Churches have long used stained glass, mosaics, and murals as expressions of worship. Today, prints and paintings can serve as powerful tools in worship gatherings, too.

Display art during sermon series. Visuals deepen the message and engage hearts in new ways.
Create a prayer station with artwork. Invite people to sit, reflect, and journal what the Spirit is speaking.
Incorporate art in worship nights. Live painting or displayed works can become a prophetic voice alongside music.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” — Colossians 3:16

When art and worship come together, the Spirit often moves in unexpected ways.

Why It Matters

Integrating art into faith practices is not about replacing Scripture or prayer—it’s about enhancing them. Biblical art points us back to the Word, giving shape and color to God’s truth. It transforms walls, corners, and even quiet moments into places of encounter.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” — Philippians 4:8

When you hang a painting, pause before a print, or give art as a gift, you’re not just enjoying creativity—you’re stepping into worship.

The Golden Bowls – inspired by Revelation 5:8, where the prayers of the saints rise like incense into heaven. My prayer was that each household receiving this print would feel their prayers carried before the throne room.
Garden of Prayer – a floral piece reminding us that even in seasons of trial, God’s grace blossoms along our path. I prayed for peace and beauty to fill the homes of those who hung it.
Behold Him – from my butterfly journey, symbolizing transformation in Christ. My prayer was that as members reflected on this print, they’d recognize the ways God was reshaping them into His likeness.

Each month, I pause, pray, and ask the Lord which piece to release. It’s always amazing to see how He aligns the message with what members are walking through. And because of the support from the Collectors Club, I’m able to keep creating these Spirit-led works.

One of my favorite parts of the Collectors Club is hearing back from members. With their permission, I’ve been able to share a few stories:

A woman in Texas shared that she framed each monthly print and now has a wall of faith in her home office—a gallery of God’s reminders she sees while working.
Another member told me she keeps the prints in a folder, pulling them out one by one during her devotional times. She said, “It feels like walking through a spiritual journey month by month.”
A pastor’s wife in Canada wrote to me that the print she received on The Golden Bowls came at the exact moment her church had been emphasizing prayer. She said, “It was like God confirmed we are part of something bigger.”

These testimonies encourage me as much as they bless others—it truly feels like we are all on this creative and spiritual journey together.

Prophetic Art: Where Heaven Meets Earth

Artists carry life. We stand at a sacred intersection where the Kingdom of Heaven touches culture. Creativity becomes a language that doesn’t just speak through words, but goes straight into the human spirit.

When we invite the Holy Spirit into our creative process, something powerful happens—our imagination, skills, and desires merge with His breath of life. What comes forth is more than art; it carries the very presence of God. This is what makes prophetic art so unique. It isn’t about personal expression alone—it’s about releasing Heaven on earth.

The Biblical Foundation of Prophetic Art

The Bible is clear that prophecy is meant to reveal Jesus and strengthen His people:

“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” — Revelation 19:10
“The one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” — 1 Corinthians 14:3

Prophecy simply means revealing God’s heart by divine inspiration. Paul even tells us to earnestly desire this gift (1 Corinthians 14:1). When art is infused with His Spirit, it becomes a living testimony of Jesus—encouraging, healing, and bringing light into dark places.

Preparing a Table

Every time we create, it’s like preparing a table where Heaven meets earth. Through a painting, a drawing, or any form of creativity, we set a place for someone to encounter the living God.

Just as the table of showbread in the temple represented His presence among His people, our art becomes a place of invitation. As someone views the work, the Holy Spirit begins to move—sometimes in ways we can’t fully see or measure. A divine conversation starts, and hearts are touched by the presence of the Father.

Art That Goes Straight to the Heart

Have you ever tried sharing your faith with someone who wasn’t ready to hear? Yet that same person might listen to a song or gaze at a painting and be undone by God’s love. That’s the beauty of creativity—it bypasses walls, fears, and intellect, reaching straight into the heart.

This is why art matters so deeply. When it carries the breath of God, it becomes a vessel of healing, encouragement, and transformation. It’s not just decoration—it’s encounter.

Creating by Faith

As believers, we are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). And when we create, our art can also carry His redemptive power into the world. Paintings, music, sculpture—whatever form it takes—becomes like a transmitter of God’s presence, radiating Heaven into the earth.

From the beginning, God has worked through creative expression:

Noah’s ark brought salvation.
Moses’ staff released signs and wonders.
David’s harp drove away torment.
Bezalel crafted the tabernacle as a prophetic picture of worship.

Each moment is a reminder that creativity is a conduit for God’s presence.

Greater Works

Jesus said that His followers would do even greater works than He did (John 14:12). That means when we create with Him—mixing faith, imagination, and the breath of the Spirit—our art can’t help but become prophetic. It is more than a painting, more than an image. It becomes a vessel for God’s Kingdom, releasing life straight into the heart of those who encounter it.

This is the beauty of prophetic art: it prepares a place, opens a door, and creates a meeting point where the Creator Himself touches His creation.

A New Season: Trusting God’s Timing Through Transition

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1

After years of sensing a quiet stirring in our hearts, our family has stepped into a new season. We’ve relocated to the United States, now calling Oklahoma our home. As a dual citizen, this move was something I had carried in prayer for a long time. And when the Lord whispered, “It’s time,” we followed with open hands and willing hearts.

Transitions like this are never simple. There’s the bittersweet weight of leaving the familiar—the home where roots ran deep—and the uncertainty of beginning again. But underneath it all, there’s trust. A deep trust in the One who sees the end from the beginning, who holds time and seasons in His hands.

A Painting Birthed in the In-Between

In the months leading up to our move, I found myself reflecting often on Ecclesiastes 3. The phrase “a time for everything” echoed in my spirit again and again. Those words didn’t just linger—they took root.

There’s something sacred about waiting. Something profound in the space between what was and what will be. And as I stood in that in-between, the Lord gently led me to paint—not from a place of certainty, but from surrender.

The painting that emerged is called A Time for Everything. At its center stands an hourglass, suspended between past and future, wrapped in the quiet tension of transition. Surrounding it are symbols of the four seasons—spring blossoms, summer wheat, autumn leaves, and winter branches—each representing the ever-changing rhythms of life.

At the base of the hourglass sits a red apple and an acorn. One ripe with fruit, the other holding hidden potential. The apple speaks of what has come to fullness through past obedience; the acorn holds the quiet hope of what is yet to grow. And resting just above it all, a monarch butterfly pauses—its wings a sign of transformation that only comes through time and surrender.

This piece isn’t just symbolic. It’s a prophetic picture of trust. Of release. Of walking in step with God’s timing even when we can’t see the full path ahead.

Seasons of the Heart

As I painted, I sensed that this wasn’t just a personal word—it was something the Lord was speaking more broadly. In this time, He is shifting seasons. Rearranging alignments. Calling many to step into unfamiliar places, not because everything is clear, but because He is there.

We may find ourselves holding both fruit and seed. We may feel the ache of what’s been and the stretch of what’s coming. But even in the in-between, there is beauty. There is purpose. There is peace.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11
“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands.” – Psalm 31:14-15

Looking Ahead with Expectation

Though we’ve left behind the familiar soil of Canada, it remains a precious part of our story—woven into every brushstroke. And as we plant new roots in Oklahoma, I do so with full expectation that the same God who brought us here will continue to unfold His plan in His perfect timing.

This season feels like a tender unfolding. One of hidden potential, gentle whispers, and the quiet work of preparation. I don’t know what it all holds, but I know the One who does. And that’s enough.

Fragrance of Forgiveness

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” — 2 Corinthians 2:15

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9

Bathed in the soft glow of divine light, Jesus stands as the embodiment of mercy and grace. His face, etched with love and sorrow, bears the marks of sacrifice, a crown of thorns resting upon His brow. Yet, even in suffering, His eyes radiate an invitation—one of forgiveness, redemption, and transformation.

In His arms, He holds a delicate bouquet of hyacinths, their beautiful purple hues whispering the language of flowers: forgiveness. Their fragrance rises like an offering, a reminder that His sacrifice was not only one of suffering but of love poured out freely. Just as crushed petals release their sweetest aroma, so too did Jesus’ sacrifice release the fragrance of grace, filling the air with the promise of redemption.

His hand is extended in a silent plea—come. Come with your burdens, your regrets, your sins, and lay them before Him. He does not turn away the brokenhearted; He welcomes them into His embrace.

Near His open palm, a monarch butterfly flutters—a vision of renewal. Once confined in the stillness of a cocoon, it now soars in vibrant freedom, reflecting the transformation that forgiveness brings. Those who accept His mercy are not merely restored; they are made new, their lives infused with the fragrance of His love.

Jesus suffered to offer you the fragrance of forgiveness, the sweet aroma of mercy flowing from His sacrifice. As you receive His grace, let it not end with you—pour it out upon others. Forgive, as He has forgiven you. For in both receiving and extending forgiveness, there is freedom. Freedom from the weight of sin, freedom from the chains of bitterness, freedom to love as He loves.

In The Fragrance of Forgiveness, the King who wore thorns offers not condemnation, but mercy. His sacrifice was the perfume of salvation, filling the world with the scent of grace. His forgiveness is not reluctant—it is abundant, overflowing, life-giving. And in that forgiveness, He offers more than restoration; He offers transformation.

Will you take His hand? Will you breathe in the fragrance of forgiveness and be made new? And will you, in turn, release that fragrance to the world?

As a Christian artist, I often reflect on the rich history of Christian art that dates back to the early Church. From hidden symbols in Roman catacombs to the grand, awe-inspiring works of the Renaissance, Christian artists have always used their gifts to reveal divine truths, inspire believers, and communicate the Gospel visually. My work today is a continuation of that profound tradition—blending the sacred with the creative.

In the early centuries, Christians faced persecution, and art became a way to express their faith in secret. Symbols like the fish (ichthys) and the chi-rho monogram adorned walls, silently proclaiming their belief in Christ. As Christianity spread, art began to flourish in cathedrals, basilicas, and homes, where paintings and mosaics depicted scenes from the Bible, giving the faithful a tangible connection to the scriptures.

The Renaissance marked a golden age for Christian art. Artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci transformed biblical narratives into masterpieces that continue to inspire. Their works, such as the Sistine Chapel or The Last Supper, were infused with emotion, depth, and theological insight. Art wasn’t just decorative; it was a spiritual tool—a way to reflect God’s glory.

In a similar way, I strive to use my own prophetic art to connect with viewers on a spiritual level. My latest collection, “Behold Him: The One Who Transforms,” uses the monarch butterfly as a symbol of Jesus’ transformation, death, and resurrection. This symbolism reflects the same themes of rebirth and renewal that have been echoed throughout Christian art history. Like the early Christians, my goal is not only to create beauty but also to offer a visual encounter with God’s word.

The essence of prophetic art, as I see it, is about more than just creating visually striking pieces. It’s about tapping into what God is saying through colors, symbols, and themes—drawing the viewer closer to His presence. Just as artists of the past used their skills to convey theological truths, I aim to continue that legacy in a contemporary context, whether painting live during worship events or working on collections like “Garden of Grace” and “Garments of Praise.”

Christian art has always been a way for believers to meditate on God’s promises, and today, it extends beyond churches and cathedrals into homes, galleries, and digital spaces. My hope is that the art I create transforms not just spaces, but hearts—serving as a reminder of the beauty and grace of God’s love.

By carrying on this tradition, I am both humbled and inspired. The legacy of Christian art is alive, and it’s an honor to be part of this ongoing journey.

Creating art is a deeply personal journey, filled with moments of reflection, inspiration, and sometimes even challenge. As I work on Behold Him: The Jesus Collection, I am often reminded of how God speaks to us in quiet and subtle ways. One of the most beautiful aspects of my work is the sacred space I get to create in—a space where I can listen to the Holy Spirit and allow the divine to guide my brushstrokes.

My three sons—Dane, Leif, and Bryn—are part of the rhythm of my day as I paint. I often hear their footsteps coming up the stairs, and we’ll share a conversation about the piece I’m working on, or they’ll simply pop in to say hello. While they may not realize it, their presence contributes to the atmosphere of creativity, love, and grace in my studio.

This collection, Behold Him, is a reflection on the life of Jesus Christ—His teachings, His sacrifice, and His transformation. It is also a testament to the idea of God’s presence in our lives, even in the smallest, quietest moments. The scripture that has been a focal point for this collection is John 1:14 (NIV): “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. My painting process is not just about creating something visually appealing, but about capturing the essence of worship as described in Psalm 141:2 (NIV): “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” This scripture reminds me that art, like prayer, rises to God as an offering, and I aim for each piece to be a fragrant offering in its own way.

Balancing Ministry, Family, and Art: The Journey of a Christian Artist

As a Christian artist, my life is a constant balancing act between my calling to create prophetic art, ministry work, and being present for my family. Whether I’m painting live at a ministry event or working on a new collection in my studio, my heart is always tethered to home. My roles as a wife and mother are just as important as my role as an artist, and finding that balance is a daily commitment.

Staying Grounded in Faith and Family

At the heart of everything I do is my relationship with God, which is the foundation for both my art and my family life. My paintings are more than just creative expressions; they are acts of worship, created in partnership with the Holy Spirit. But as much as I pour into my art and ministry, I also need to pour into my family. Being grounded in prayer and staying connected to my husband and kids is essential for maintaining that balance.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33, NIV)

Ministry doesn’t have to come at the expense of family time. In fact, the two often go hand in hand. My husband, Cory, has been an incredible support in this journey, and we often talk about how our life as a family is a ministry in itself. Whether we’re traveling for an art event or spending quiet time at home, we keep our focus on serving God and each other.

Ministry Through Travel and Art

Traveling for ministry can be both rewarding and challenging. It’s an honour to take part in live prophetic painting events or contribute to projects like mural painting in Zambia. These experiences bring joy, but they also require careful planning to ensure my family remains connected, even when I’m away. Involving my family through prayer, sharing stories, or bringing them along when possible keeps us united and reminds my children that ministry is a shared calling.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)

Daily check-ins with my family and sharing how God is moving in both my life and theirs helps bridge the gap between ministry work and home life.

Balancing Motherhood and Creativity

Being a mother and an artist comes with its own challenges. There are days when I feel pulled between the studio and home, between painting and helping with homework. But both art and motherhood are sacred callings.

I carve out time for my art, knowing that creativity fuels my spirit and helps me show up as a better mom. At the same time, I model for my kids what it means to follow your passion while staying faithful to God’s timing. They see me painting, but they also see me pausing to pray, spending time in the Word, and making room for them.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is to give myself grace. Some days, I may not finish a painting because my kids need me more. Other days, I dive into a new collection while they’re at school. It’s about flexibility and recognizing that God is in control of both my art and my family.

Embracing the Rhythm of Life

In this season, I’m learning to embrace the rhythm that God has set for my life. Some days are slower, filled with quiet moments of creativity and family time. Other days are busier, with ministry travel and art shows. Through it all, I’m reminded that balance doesn’t mean everything is equal—it means staying centered on God and allowing Him to guide me through the ebbs and flows.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11, NIV)

For other Christian artists, my encouragement is to let your art and family life flow from the same source: your relationship with God. Prioritize both your calling as an artist and your role within your family, and trust that God will give you the wisdom and grace to manage both.

Conclusion

Balancing ministry, art, and family is a journey that requires faith, flexibility, and intentionality. It’s not always easy, but with God’s grace, it is possible to thrive in all areas of life. Whether you’re painting for His glory or spending time with your family, remember that both are acts of worship. I’m grateful for the opportunity to live out my calling while staying deeply rooted in the love of my family.

As a prophetic artist, my work is an ongoing spiritual journey. I began this path after a clear calling from God, who encouraged me to paint without fear, simply for the joy of co-creating with Him. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to paint live during worship events, partner with ministries like Time to Revive, and bring healing through art in places like Zambia’s orphanages and mental health centres in Canada.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”

John 15:5, NIV.

“No one sews a patch of un-shrunk (new) cloth on an old garment; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and the tear becomes worse. No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the [fermenting] wine will [expand and] burst the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the wineskins.

But new wine must be put into new wineskins”

Mark 2:21-22, AMP.

“Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved”

Matthew 9:17, AMP.

Scripture states that new wine must be put into new wine skins, and so what does this entail? For one cannot mend the two garments together; they would be incompatible and not sustain its purpose.

Thus, it is evident that the new calls for a putting away of what was, and cling to something entirely different, something better. “He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:9-10, NIV).

The New Wine: The life and sacrifice of Jesus became our new wine, providing for a new covenant that provides for a communal response; a constant flow of an inpouring and outpouring to others. For this symbol is a representation of the new covenant that now exists between God and man. It is the impartation of new life through the Holy Spirit, who is at work amongst His people. God chose humanity, a weak and fragile vessel to house the Imago Dei.

What humility, what honor to house His presence. It’s the practice of abiding and becoming one in relationship, rather than needing to prove or earn a right standing with God through the Law. “Do not think that I came to do away with or undo the Law [of Moses] or the [writings of the] Prophets; I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For I assure you and most solemnly say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke [of the pen] will pass from the Law until all things [which it foreshadows] are accomplished” (Matthew 5:17-18, AMP).

Christ has accomplished all, He has become our complete sacrifice, the spotless lamb. And in doing so, His grace provides a higher standard of righteousness, because His glory resides from within.

Remaining in Him is the only way to receive and be carriers of the new wine. Therefore, we need to be open to the new and not idolize ways of old. The Kingdom is all about transforming us into the image of Christ.

The Old & New Wineskins: The old wineskin represented the religious practices, customs, and traditions of ancient times (that from the old covenant), which was both practiced and highly revered. The religious leaders of that time tried to preserve the old garments, because they found the “new” offensive. This was a threat to the religious systems of hierarchal order, an embodiment of people who had become entrenched in ego and blinded by pride, who had lost fellowship with the Lord.

The new cloth calls for righteous living and thereby provides for one to become spiritually strong, encouraging others to right relationship with the Father. In times of old a wineskin was made from an animal, such as sheep, goat, or ox. After being prepared, it would become filled with either wine or water. However new skins could stretch without bursting, whereas to reuse the old would bring a loss to the wine and skin as both would burst forth in the fermentation process. Therefore, the new message of the Kingdom of God must be received with soft, pliable hearts.

This is a call for a renewal in the Kingdom of God, to advance and distance itself from the dried out and inflexible system of what was. The new wineskin must be able to expand and contract, ready to adjust, so that all will remain strong and stand.

Fermentation: For anything to become fermented, one would know that it takes time. They say that aged grapes reap a good wine. Spiritually, this means that our hearts become one with His. We do this through meditating on His word and taking time to abide in His presence.

"Salt of the Earth"

“SALT OF THE EARTH”

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13, AMP.

Visually the image of salt is reflective of snow, and the coming of a new season. Snow is a representation of purity, acting as a blanket that covers the earth. Both snow and salt provide for a cleansing and opportunity for renewal to begin. The timing of this painting is appropriate, as we approach the beginning of a new year and another closes.

It provides for a moment to pause and ask, “Lord, are there areas in my life where I have lost my saltiness?” And if so, would you expose those places to me so that I can identify areas that are needed to change.

So why the comparison of salt to a believer’s life? To effectively answer this, I believe we need to take a moment to review its history and use. Throughout the ages salt has been used as a sterilizing agent to effectively treat and heal open wounds, while preventing pathogens from entering in and causing disease. Like the work of the Spirit, He is the salt that sanctifies our hearts to be free from sin and render its ill effects. Over the centuries this little mineral was effective to preserve the quality and nature of many local goods, so that one could ship and store quality items for an extended period. These attributes are to be evident throughout our daily lives, sprinkled like salt and thus preserving the goodness of God and restraining evil.

Salt: Can be an agent used to purify or cleanse, thereby bringing impurities to the surface so that they can be dealt with and removed. Although salt appears minuet, it is a key ingredient that is needed to add, giving it a robust flavour.

The Bowl: Is a vessel that is crafted in the Potter’s hands. The bowl represents the temple of our beings to carry the pure nature of salt in our own lives.

Monarch: Represents transformation and new life. This is a reminder that we are to represent Christ in the world, a carrier of “the salt” at work within us.

Blueberries: Often can signify modesty, as berries can be found hidden under a covering of leaves. They also represent gentleness and sincerity, such as how we are to be in our posture and approach to others.

Berries are rich and vibrant in colour, which embody the evidence of Christ at work. They also signify authenticity and character that has been made mature. One may note that berries and salt are similar in function, in that they both act as agents to heal and aid in recovery.

As you reflect on this painting, I pray your new year is filled with abundant fruit, being purified from the past season and bringing life into the NEW.

“Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2, AMP.

Before painting for this month’s Collectors Club, I spent some time in prayer.I felt the need to paint a “Grey Jay,” specifically three birds that would represent our need to be reconciled under the Godhead of the trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Oftentimes denominations can place higher reverence to one above the other, failing to operate under the fullness of who He is. May we not found to hold this belief, only to hinder and ultimately grieve the spirit. For we are to be disciplined in developing a life of prayer, making time for Him. Choosing an attitude of gratitude and being sober minded and diligent in pursuing Him, until He faithfully returns for His bride.

Personally, this painting holds a specific meaning for me. Because I live in Canada, I felt the need to share a message of encouragement and speak a fresh breath of hope into our nation. Although this can be picked up and received globally, I believe Canada will be a forerunner in ushering in peace, unity, grace, and healing unto the nations. I believe God has called Canada to be a voice, take a position of authority and leadership. Canadians have an assignment and can no longer take the backseat in watching others lead. May we agree and pray together for believers to be a people of prayer, boldness, humility and courage.

The Grey Jay: Represents qualities of faithfulness, courage, and sovereign protection. These birds are known to guard over one’s territory (birds that can be known as the watchmen), bringing about a word of warning.

Arrows: Often symbolize peace, however they are not simply characterized as being the “peacemakers.”Arrows can be used as tactical weapon that offer protection, safety, strategy and of course accuracy. People who use arrows to hunt have developed the fruit of patience, to wait in hiding for the appropriate time to advance.

Maple Leaf: Is the National symbol of Canada. It represents unity, healing, and peace. The leaf also marks a seasonal change that is in tune with the Spirit, that will bring fresh color to change the surroundings of an atmosphere.

“A LAMP ON A STAND”

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14, KJV.

“And he said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand?For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light” (Mark 4:21-22, ESV).

Throughout the gospels Jesus used parables to illustrate the hidden mysteries of the Kingdom to come, but this precious truth was not revealed to all. Jesus spoke in parables, that used simple teachings to uncover profound truths. For it was the little childrenthat Jesus used for His disciples become like. “Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein” (Luke 18:17, KJV). When I think of a young child, I am reminded of their innate joy and ability to both trust and forgive. Children carry qualities of innocence, humility, and of course great faith. All characteristics that allow for God to bring spiritual discernment and a broader understanding to. “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (1 Corinthians 1:27, NKJV).

In the parable of the lampstand, Jesus was speaking to an audience (during a time) who valued the use and purpose of an oil lamp. These types of lamps were not simply used as means of décor, only to be stationed at a bedside table. Instead, they were formed from clay and carried throughout the house. These lamps used costly and pure oils to fan a flame and heat a home. Anders states, that during the first century in the middle east “people used very small oil lamps which could easily fit under a small bowl. But the idea of lighting a lamp and putting it under a bowl is absurd. Not only would it be a waste of light, but it would also be a waste of oil” (Noren, Anders. Truth Applied, 2021). Similarly, just like the lamp followers of Jesus should be bold and open to profess their faith. Thus, contending for the oil to keep burning and shinning bright for all to see your “good works,” so that all can bring glory to your Father in Heaven. Our lives bare witness when we put into practice what scripture teaches, such as: pray without ceasing, give generously, forgive without reproach, love unconditionally, bearing one another’s burdens etc.

Lastly in the gospel of Mark 4, the parable of the lampstand takes on a different angle and heeds a warning to believers: “For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light.” This is a reminder for our need to take account, knowing that how we live will reap consequences, and what we do in “secret” will be made known. “The word “secret” (musterion) can be translated to mean mystery, and not commonly known truth. Instead, it refers to God’s truth that was previously hidden but now has been revealed” (Stott, Jeff. Mark 4:21-25: Parable of the Lamp, 2020). I also appreciate what Jeff Stott stated, “a lamp doesn’t try to expose sin. It naturally reveals what’s in the room. It shows what’s in the darkness. As you live for God and as you share His Word you will naturally expose sin. You will reveal what is in the darkness” (Stott, 2020). Just as the Word convicts us of sin in our own lives, the truth provides for the change that is needed to turn. As we know, believers cannot shine in the flesh, but through His indwelling Spirit that captivates and transforms our inner being to reflect Him.

The Oil: The Oil is symbolic to our time spent in the Presence of the Holy Spirit.It is practice and discipline that must be maintained. The Oil is refreshed and purified when we are in communion with Him. For we cannot reflect His light if we are not refined and renewed with the new oil.

The Basket: Baskets are often used to hold or carry items. However, in this case, they held a negative connotation. The basket in this parable was used to snuff out the light. Thereby limiting one’s influence or even shortening one’s lifespan to be effective for the Kingdom. To combat this threat, believers need to be aware of their own baskets that could be limiting their witness. These basket coverings act as weapons and try to short circuit one’s assignment through the use of disappointment, weariness, spiritual attacks, people etc.

The Light: Jesus is our representation and beholder of the light. He is the light and the oil. However, he has commissioned his sons and daughters to be salt and light in the world and represent Him.

The Stand: Stands were needed in times of old, so that light could illuminate an entire room. Similarly, one’s faith must stand firm, proving to be true and tested in all seasons. Not only must we build strength, but we must continue to stand firm. Believers must occupy all positions of high and low regard, never to chase a title but simply to spread the name of Jesus and bring others to Him.

"Come Up Higher"

Come Up Higher

Isaiah 61:1-3, NIV

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captive and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor."

Ephesians 2:4-7, ESV

"ButGod, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus."

This painting represents the fulfillment and great commissioning of Jesus. The title “Come Up Higher,” illustrates the completed work of “His Anointed." Isaiah 61 and Ephesians 2 were scriptures that the artist used to both frame the message of her work. Her desire was to capture the essence of our hope-filled invitation, to rule and reign with Christ.

The Hebrew translation of the word Messiah literally means, “anointed ones.” In biblical times, people in positions of kingship and royalty were often given these elective titles. Now being grafted into the vine of Christ Himself, believers have this heavenly citizenship and are also called “the anointed ones.” Thus, Believers radiate glimmers of His light (in various colours and shades), in order to displace darkness and thereby reign in truth, justice, and righteousness while on the earth. The anointed are to occupy and take up residence in different areas of influence while on the earth. However, this is to be forever distinguished from our true Messiah, that is “The Christ.” Jesus, who mediates and responds as our chief cornerstone, and who gifts His beloved with mantles to reign by His blood. Our objective as His followers is to pursue the process of sanctification. That is for the renewal of the heart and mind to be transformed into His image (Rom. 12:2). A journey that Paul compared to being crushed, beaten, perplexed, afflicted, and bruised. This is often not a road that is characterized as lilies and sunshine, but rather is an uphill climb of wilderness seasons and sufferings. It is obvious that the Lord cares little about our comfort, and more about the condition of our hearts. His desire is that we would tried and proven worthy, presented without spot or blemish (The Olive & Us).

“(…) As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3, NKJV).

The Crown of Thorns:

Is symbolic to the suffering that Jesus bore.

It is a reminder of what He endured, so that as His disciples we can become co-laborers with Him. For this is our priestly assignment, to rule and to reign with His Spirit: “On earth as it is in heaven.”

The Olive Branch:

Is a representation of the Lord’s joy, sovereignty, peace, and delight over His people. Specifically, the oil that is pressed from an Olive tree must be beat and shaken to produce fine quality oil. The process requires chastisement for refinement. Similarly to those who are in the faith, one must surrender to His Lordship to behold the first fruits of His righteousness.

"The Hebrew word for “olive tree” is es shemen, which literally means ‘tree of oil.” It is from a primitive root meaning “to shine.” It means “richness, anointing, fat, fruitful, oil, ointment, olive.” It is related to the word shemesh, “to be brilliant,” and which also is the Hebrew word for the “sun,” that brightly shining orb in the sky" (Dankenbring, 2018).

The Color Gold & Storm Clouds:

The gold flecks in the painting are to display the stark difference between darkness and light.

The storm clouds mirror our present trials and hardships while on the earth. This contrast serves as a reminder that even amid sorrow, one can remain in the splendor and comfort of His Spirit, to come up higher and trust Him.

The gold in this picture asks the viewer to seek the imperishable things of His Kingdom, and to come away with Him. “Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold” (Psalm 119:127, KJV).

Robed in White:

Jesus our intercessor, His hand stretched out to offer companionship and deliverance from our foes.

“Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save;

neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear (…)” (Isaiah 59:1, KJV).

We can be confident that He is already praying in the Spirit on our behalf. As we weep, He weeps.

The Savior of the world bends down low to meet with us. One on one. He is personal and sincere. All dressed in white, his garment reflects a motive that is first pure and upright. The Lord desires to cover over us and illuminate our steps. His gentle embrace acts as a shield and strong tower; a safe place for remaining hidden.

Until Unity:

This painting of "The Christ" serves as the cornerstone to all the other paintings in this series. And although it can easily stand on its own, the beauty of His great commission was to include His creation to play a part in the story and carry forth His will.

What an honour, that as believers we can be entrusted and serve alongside Him! However, in order to fulfill the Great Commission, we address every entanglement that seeks to divide, and run in such a manner that is worthy to represent His name and calling. We must walk in complete humility so that we can stand in perfect unity. Let us admonish one another, not allowing for compromise, but covering over each-others shortcomings in oneness and love.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments” (Psalm 133:1-2, KJV).

"The Leavening"

"He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened" (Matthew 13:33, DARBY).

A little leaven [a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers] leavens the whole batch [it perverts the concept of faith and misleads the church]" (Galatians 5:9, AMP).

"Your boasting [is] not good. Do ye not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, according as ye are unleavened. For also our passover, Christ, has been sacrificed; So that let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with leaven of malice and wickedness, but with unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth" (1 Corinthians 5:6-8, DARBY).

As we can see, Scripture uses the metaphor "to leaven" more than once to teach His disciples a practical lesson on outcome. Whether the result is found to be fruitful or destructive, the reality is, this little single cell microorganism changes the composition of its entirety.

Moreover what I found to be even more profound, is how Scripture illustrates the process of leavening to be used for both good or evil. Only time will tell however, what fruit springs forth."Ye shall know them by their fruits" (Matt. 7:16, KJV). This is why the body of believers need to be so grounded in the Word: So that they may be able to test and approve what is truth, against a backdrop of deceit. For even a little compromise will corrupt the sum of its parts. Just as Paul had warned, "Do ye not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?"

Holy Spirit, I ask that you would help your people discern. That those who are known by you would grow in the knowledge of your truth, and will not fall prey to the lies of the accuser. May we be used mightily for your Kingdom and bring glory to your name. You are worthy.

"Come, O Breath" | September 2021

“Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.” Ezekiel 37:9-10.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8.

The style and imagery of this painting at first glance may come as a bit of a surprise. I don’t normally paint skulls. As I prayed into September’s painting, I heard the Lord say, “paint the breath of life, dry bones come to life!”

On their own dry bones and a skull often represent death and decay, however we must remember that the details in this painting do not simply end here. Rather, it is mirroring the anticipated beginnings of the biblical story that is found in Ezekiel 37. I would encourage you to make time, to review the whole chapter and meditate on the words from the Lord for this season and what it can mean for us today.

As we dive a little deeper, we begin to clearly trace the breath of the Holy Spirit enveloping over these dry bones; to both hear the word of the Lord and arise from the graves. This breath symbolically represents the rushing wind of Holy Spirit, bursting forth to clothe the body with skin and sinews of flesh. This breath, Ruach in Hebrew, means the creative life force of God. Just as God breathed life into Adam for the first time, forming a living man, He told Ezekiel to command the breath into these dry bones. I see this as a prayer strategy in this season, to command the breath of life into dead, dry places to come alive again! God’s presence & power drawing the four corners of the earth to woe all of creation back to Him.

We see these bones came together to form a great army, and yet if the body of Christ cannot be united as one, we hinder our witness and compromise the coming of generational revivals to take place. Our need to display community and connection is integral to our effectiveness and ministry; “…and the bones came together, bone to bone.” (Ezekiel 37:7). May we leave no room for the enemy to work through open doors of offense, un-forgiveness, opinions or pride. Let us be a people who join hand in hand, shake the dust from our feet and journey upwards and onwards in Christ, as the mighty army of God. Letting the old flesh die, for the breath to breathe anew in us and into the Church.

The Withering Flower:

Capturing the breath as wind blowing in a painting is difficult, unless there is a subject tangibly being blown. I immediately saw petals dancing in the wind and heard the verse in Isaiah, “the grass withers and flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” I love how God uses metaphors all throughout His word. In this verse, human fragility is compared to flowers falling and grass withering. Like the flower, our life is fleeting, only here for a moment, but the Word of God endures forever. Much like the dry bones, we too are dead to our sinful nature, until accepting God’s saving grace through His Son, Jesus, the Word became flesh spoken at creation – we then receive the breath of life, the Holy Spirit, breathed into our ‘dry bones’ to fully live, here and in eternity.

Our Need for Hope:

“Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’” (Ez. 37:11) I want to stop for a moment and highlight the word hope, because this little word is imperative to lay hold of. You may find yourself or the current state of the world in a season of the wilderness, be encouraged that the Lord is near; however you must also chose to respond. May we make room for Him to breathe afresh over us, and to not allow your hope to become distorted and appear deferred. Be reminded that you are the gatekeeper of your hope, but you do not have to go about it alone. “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him” (Proverbs 30:5). Ask the Lord to help you protect your hope so that you would be able to test all things, endure the course – and when you have done all you can do, stand.

Prophesy Dead Things Back to Life:

In chapter 37 of Ezekiel the word “prophesy and to be prophesied” is spoken of 7 times. The Lord actually commands Ezekiel to prophesy to his own heart, while both speaking and believing that all things are possible to Him who is able. I urge you to see past the stale tomb, where dead things once lay, and be reminded that we serve a God and King who has conquered over death, hell and the grave! May we take this truth up, so that as a people, we can walk in the available power and authority freely given to His beloved to rise in Him again; “Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.” (Ez. 37: 12).So I ask you, what graves are you living from that God has called you to prophesy you out from? Have you asked Him? Be open to hear his voice over those things big and small.

This message is three prong. First it is a word for the corporate body; reviving our lost hope to be brought back to Him. Secondly, we are given a command. We are asked to prophesy, and prophesy with boldness and complete authority because of His sacrifice. And thirdly we are to acknowledge and revere the Word of the Lord in all we do; For then all will know that the Lord has spoken and caused these great wonders to happen.

Let us be reminded of the promised hope that our valleys of dry bones are being exchanged for the Spirits’ transformative power that is living within us. His unyielding grace that is constantly longing to captivate and flood the temple of our hearts with the knowledge of His name.

May dry bones comes back to life and become a mighty army in this day!

"Garden of Grace" mini collection

"For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Cor 2:15-16, NKJV).

"And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people" (Rev. 5:8, NIV).

This collection of mini 'garden' paintings were birthed through one-hundred days of prayer. The Lord took me through a season where he challenged me "to learn how to pray" on a whole new level. He invited me to go back into the 'Garden of the Word,' into the secret place with Him and pray. I began to see each flower along the journey of painting through the Bible, going back to that time with God. These mini 'garden' paintings are prayers gathered along the path, journeying deeper into the truth of His Word and promises.

New Beginnings | Nehemiah - mini fine art print

For we are the fragrant offering of Christ, a body of people who have both collectively and personally counted the cost to be poured out in surrender. Our lives are to mirror the image of His Son, His work to be completed through His beloved ones. For we are carriers of His presence and partakers of His glory to a lost and dying world. The church is the embodiment of His perfect love, so that His Spirit may indwell within us. The mystery of His breath of life stirs within each of us, speaking forth hope in both authority and maturity of faith. For as believers, we are commanded to “take courage” and be of good cheer, no matter what trial we are facing. Be reminded, that we stand victorious! May our shortcomings never hold us stagnant, but instead propel our need to remain dependant on the completed work of the cross. Declaring over our failures, the promise of His blood and the final work that “It is Finished” (John 19:28; 19:30 KJV). “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16, KJV).

Purity & Holiness | 1 Thessalonians - mini fine art print

To be known by the Lord, we must walk on the narrow path with Him. We are asked to steward an unseen garden that is found within us. We must ask, what fruit do we bare? Do we heed His voice, and give ear to His instruction? Take a moment this week to set your mind on the path you are walking. Do not be discouraged when you are hard-pressed on every side, instead ask the Good Gardener to tend the soil of your heart and break ground with His presence. He is faithful to steady your mind and soul as you trust in Him.

“And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Luke 10:2

“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.” Genesis 17:7

“And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.” Luke 1:50

This painting has multiple meanings for me personally. I will start with where it came from… My Grandpa passed away at the end of July, returning to his heavenly home. What a glorious day that will be! After hearing of the news, I sat at my easel staring at a blank canvas. I was thinking of my Grandpa and all he meant to me and about his life while on earth… I began to paint. This is what came out of that time. My Grandpa was a generational farmer. He farmed his whole life. Wheat fields remind me of him. One of my most cherished memories of my childhood was growing up in North Dakota, going to the farm where my Grandparents lived, experiencing farm life.

Generations:

As I thought about the wheat fields, I realized I have a harvest in my bloodline through my Grandpa and how God works through generations. We are all part of a family. God designed humanity to come through generational lines. Each family has natural and spiritual callings and assignments, generational inheritances, but also curses. When born again into the family of God, through the blood of Jesus, he gives us authority to break curses off our family lines and step fully into the inheritance of the Kingdom, reclaiming what the enemy may have stolen from us through the generations. We can reclaim a spiritual inheritance no one can steal through the Lord. Today, ask the Lord to restore and reclaim His purposes and plans through your generational line… cancel every attack coming against your family and pray blessing on the generations to come that they will walk out every assignment God has purposed to accomplish through your family.

The Harvest:

When we become a member of the family of God, we are all called to be a labourer in His harvest field. There’s a mighty harvest of people who need to be welcomed into the family of God… we are all called to be part of that harvest in the area of our assignments. Let’s pray for the laborers of His harvest to go out into the fields. Everywhere we go is the harvest field. The harvest is plentiful; in our towns, neighborhoods and communities. Lord, rise up the laborers in this hour! We are entering a harvest season like never before.

Bowing Wheat:

When wheat is fully matured, it bows its head from the weight. This is when it’s fully fruitful, ready to be harvested. The fruit of this wheat will produce the bread of life. It reminds me of the parable of the wheat and tares. The wheat that is humbled and bowing in the presence of the One with the heavenly sickle, will produce food. The tare who refuses to bow will not be fruitful and will be separated out. Lord, keep us submitted and humbled to your ways, so we will produce good fruit.

The Monarch Butterflies:

I painted two Monarch’s representing generational transformation. Two represents union, male and female, producing life… the generations. The monarch butterfly has a migration path from Mexico to Canada. It takes up to four generations to migrate on their journey to pass the torch to the next cycle of generations. It’s amazing how God designs every aspect of creation in generations, even the butterfly.

I pray this simple painting speaks to your heart and stirs you for the harvest.

“Victory”

“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

^“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:3-5

“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

2 Timothy 4: 2-5

Happy New Year! Can you believe we made it through 2020? It’s hard to believe the year we just had; ups and downs, the world changing right before our eyes. When praying for what to paint in the first month of 2021, I heard the word, “Victory!” It’s time to walk victorious. It’s time to walk and not waver in Truth. 2021 will be a year to advance the Word and God’s truth, for in him we are victorious in all circumstances. We must enter the year standing confidently in who we are in Christ, overcomers. Rising above all situations and seeking the Lord for his wisdom and ways.

The Hourglass:

This represents time. We live in earthly time, bound by hours, days, months and yearly cycles. We know the Bible speaks of Jesus returning, but no one knows the day or hour. We must be ready at all times for his glorious return. I know every day we are closer, it sure feels like last year was a wakeup call to what is important… there is no time to waste!

The Holy Bible:

This is our compass of Truth. Everything we need to know is in the Scriptures. Over the past couple years, I’ve been hearing the Lord telling me how important it is to studying and know the Word. A hunger for the Word has grown in my life. As we get closer to the end times, the Word needs to be written on our hearts in order to discern false doctrine. It has to be more about the Bible than books and opinions. It is the only way we will KNOW Jesus and his ways.

The Laurel Wreath:

Laurel leaves symbolize victory! It is a symbol of triumph and were awarded to victors. In Biblical symbolism, the laurel can mean “Flourish,” to grow luxuriantly, to achieve success or prosper, and to reach a height of development or influence. Although we see the wicked succeed and achieve everything their hearts desire, God promises that the righteous will flourish (Psalm 92:12) and God will not forsake his faithful ones. God’s idea of flourishing isn’t always in material things and successes of this world, we flourish in our faith and knowledge of Him, living victoriously in our salvation through Christ. There is nothing more rewarding than that! Walking in relationship with Jesus, we flourish in the garden of life. We see from a heavenly perspective and glorify him in all that we do.

The Background:

I chose to paint a landscape as the background. God’s creation and the dawning of a new day! The promised land he has for each one of us on the horizon. The sun rising.

I am excited to see what this year will bring! An incredible time to be alive and be part of God’s plans in the earth. We are watching history be written right before our eyes. Walk in VICTORY and stand on the Truth of his Word, I pray this painting blesses you and is an encouragement of the victory we already have! Walk into 2021 with the authority you’ve been given through Christ Jesus. He goes before you to fight and gives you victory.

“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4

“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” 2 Corinthians 2:14

I am excited to share this Advent devotional leading up to Christmas, written by my friend Elaine. You can read along everyday, experiencing a deeper reflection of why we celebrate Christmas, the true meaning. God divinely connection me with Elaine, who has helped me with her anointed writing, put together the most beautiful manuscript, to bring my dream of a coffee table book of the Bible Paintings to life. My prayer is this book project will be released sometime in 2021. Enjoy this advent writing...

Dear Friends,

In 2017, Mindi Oaten was commissioned to do a painting for every book of the Bible. At the end of two years, the work was completed, and I was invited to write a summary and poem to go alongside each painting. After ten months, that work has been completed. We are now in the final stages of compiling a book that should be available sometime in 2021.

It has been a blessing to immerse ourselves in the Bible as a whole. As Christians, we often downplay the importance of the Old Testament, but the threads of God’s grace weave together in a tapestry revealed at the coming of Jesus. It is our prayer that you will see advent from a different perspective as you journey with us during these next twenty-seven days.

May the Lord keep you in his love and care.

The Opening Act

Genesis | "The Promised Seed" by Mindi Oaten

"And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." (Genesis 2:8-9)

“Hindsight is 20/20” has taken on new meaning as we come to the close of this year. Our world has been disrupted by the introduction of an invisible virus; causing us to reflect on what we have lost. Who would have believed that we would be in this place a year ago when we were preparing for Christmas 2019?

Advent began in the garden of Eden with God’s beloved, Adam and Eve. Imagine his delight in creating the universe in a moment, with the breath of his Word and the dance of the Spirit. The fireworks of light were the artist’s palette that he swirled into stars and planets. Time stood still as he crafted a home for his creatures amidst a feast of colour, sound, taste, scent and touch. From the beginning he had you in mind; like a bridegroom preparing for his bride. But it all went terribly wrong when we exchanged our innocence for sovereignty, testing the limits of his love. No longer able to see his face or walk with him in the garden, humanity began a tragic alienation that corrupted the earth and replaced the divine center with self-interest.

Yet a seed remains of the original beauty, truth and goodness, reminding us that we were created for so much more. We pause in those moments of transcendent joy, to feel God’s presence and wait for his return. Thus begins our advent journey.

“Oh Lord, we give you thanks for the beauty we see in creation. Your love is evident in the natural world and in the relationships we hold most dear. Prepare our hearts for your coming during this time of advent. Walk with us as we ponder the changes in our life this past year.” Amen

“Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.” Isaiah 30:18

“For I the Lord love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.” Isaiah 61:8

“Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times!” Psalm 106: 3

Painting as prayer... I've been praying for the United States and had this sketched in my sketchbook over a year ago, maybe longer. Leading up to the elections, God put this sketch back on my heart to paint as intercession for the USA. I never got it finished before the elections and was disappointed, but I didn't know what it would look like on the other side of the election... and the nation needs more prayer than ever for that matter to be resolved. I heard the Lord again, paint as you pray.

This is the painting that came out of the time... complete on USA Thanksgiving.

This is a painting symbolizing the identity of the United States of America. I added elements that symbolize the American portrait, it's God given heritage and sound. Justice reigns and Liberty rings. Sound the trumpet! Awaken and stand firm, take your positions for what the Lord has planned in this mighty nation. He's given you the trumpet blast... time to mobilize and take back the land for the Lord. Founded on Biblical truth, aligned with Israel. Shine your light across the world! Be drawn into the rose garden and walk with the Lord, hear his voice and feel his presence.

Let freedom ring! Liberty! "Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Chronicles 3:17. Out of your brokenness, you will be lifted up with greater authority and power from the Lord. His glory will shine through you.

"Proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants." Leviticus 25:10

The Flag:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Liberty Bell:

The sound ringing across the nation of freedom. Liberty! “Where the spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom.” The bell is cracked and broken, out of brokenness comes revival. The humble will be first and the proud last. When America is broken before the Lord and put him first in the land once again, the new sound will ring with greater power!

“For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah 57:15

“For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being,” declares the Lord. “But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:2

The Justice Scale:

Justice is woven into the fabric of this nation. A Biblical foundation of justice. Praying for justice to be done, truth to be brought into the light, and the Justice of the Lord to be served.

Bible:

A nation founded on God’s word. The word must come back into this nation. A return of the Word of God, a return of Truth.

Gavel:

Law and order. May law and order be preserved, upheld and provide protection to the people.

The Rose Garden:

The national flower of the United States. On November 20, 1986, President Ronald Reagan declared the rose our National Flower in a special ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. The proclamation reads, in part:

More often than any other flower, we hold the rose dear as the symbol of life and love and devotion, of beauty and eternity… We see proofs of this everywhere. The study of fossils reveals that the rose has existed in America for age upon age… Our first President, George Washington, bred roses… The White House itself boasts a beautiful Rose Garden. We grow roses in all our fifty States… We decorate our celebrations and parades with roses. Most of all, we present roses to those we love, and we lavish them on our altars, our civil shrines, and the final resting places of our honored dead.

Be drawn into the secret place of the garden America, hear and experience his presence, the Lord walking with you in the garden.

The Trumpet:

Sound the alarm! Awaken from slumber, stand in position. Prepare to march forward. The Lord is sounding the trumpet! He has been for the last four years, time to unify America and come into alignment with the plans of the Lord. He’s given you the trumpet blast… wake up and fight! The Lord is returning, take your place in the war of nations to hold fast to God’s plans. He is returning!

The Feathers:

This represents the Holy Spirit, the Godhead, the trinity (3 feathers) and the angelic assistance over this nation. He will cover you with his feathers, he will protect those who call upon the name of the LORD. “Glory and honor are in his presence; strength and joy are in His place.” Give glory and shouts of praises to His holy name. He is with you.

The Candle:

The light has come. You are a city on a hill, burning brightly. Do not let your light go out, put it on a lampstand for all to see. Shine in the darkness. Burning for the Lord, those who believe carry the light of life.

The Prayer Shawl & Olive Branch:

The United States stands with Israel. Praying for the peace of Jerusalem. You are grafted into the tree, a sheep nation in the last days. Become a mighty nation of prayer.

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Ps. 91:4

“For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.” Ps. 139: 13-16

I had the opportunity to be a presenter and paint live for an arts & worship conference called the “Levite Summit” here in Canada this month. I painted live during the worship portion of the webinar and planned to use the opportunity to paint my November Collectors Cub painting! (some may have already saw the pictures, but didn’t know you would be getting it!) What an experience… I felt the presence of God so strong during worship as I created this painting and now get to share it with you all.

As I prayed for November, I kept hearing the word, “preparation” and saw this nest and eggs. Then I saw a gold key appear in the nest. This is what I felt as I sketched it out:

We are being prepared, a season of preparation for what’s to come. In a time of shaking, he protects us, he comforts us, he disciplines us to get us stronger, free from old sins and patterns so we are ready! We are “nesting” in a process to birth new songs, brand new ideas and assignments. Trust God in this preparation time. We are being given new keys to overcome, open new doors and take authority over the darkness. The butterflies are almost ready to fly! Get prepared, rest in his love, you were born for such a time as this!

I thought I would share an email from a participant of the Levite Summit, it gives beautiful layers and confirmation to this painting, she gave me permission to share:

With regards to the prophetic painting Mindi did - WOW!!! It was incredibly significant for every person we prayed for! When I saw the nest, God immediately reminded me of a revelation He gave me last August. Holy Spirit led me to search up the 15th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which is "Samekh". It means "to uphold, lean upon, to support".

On the website 'Hebrew for Christians' on Samekh, there is a part where it talks about "The miracle of samekh". Samekh, combined with the preceding letter of the alphabet, Nun, spells the word "NES" which means "Miracle". BUT, because I am originally from South Africa and Afrikaans is my native language, I know that "NES" is the Afrikaans word for "NEST"!

Now you understand how the painting reminded me of this revelation!

The cool thing is that "Nun" means "a person who is bent, someone who humbles himself in brokenness and submission to the Lord God."

So, according to this website, the combination of samekh and nun that forms the word NES (miracle) means: "A person of faith is a walking miracle! The Lord gives support to the fallen and broken ones who put their trust in Him.” Indeed, this is directly illustrated in Psalm 145, an acrostic Psalm that begins its verse about Samekh as follows:

"The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down."

I feel that this is part of the message God gave at the Levite Summit!

The cursive way of writing this letter is also a circle, which looks like a NEST! God's love and glory which has no beginning or end!

Sukkah also starts with a samekh, indicating that God's omnipresence is our support and shelter. God is active in His support for creation and we are passive in relying our trusting in His provision and care for our lives.

The painting really opened up so much revelation during the prayer ministry - about resting in the comfort of God's perfect, never-ending Love and protection - surrounded... Even in life's storms, here we are safe and receive from Him revelation, keys to His Kingdom, and are being transformed. And in letting go of our burdens, we become light as a feather!

Col 2:2 (TPT) " I am contending for you that your hearts will be wrapped in the comfort of heaven and woven together into love's fabric. This will give you access to all the riches of God as you experience the revelation of God's great mystery - Christ (in us)"

The comfort of being and resting in the center of God's love, in the "nest" of safety and protection that He has woven together... Trusting Him completely, staying/abiding there, and receiving from Him revelation, all of this while He transforms us into the likeness and image of JESUS (the butterfly).

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

    a time to be born and a time to die,
    a time to plant and a time to uproot,
    a time to kill and a time to heal,
    a time to tear down and a time to build,
    a time to weep and a time to laugh,
    a time to mourn and a time to dance,
    a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
    a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
   a time to search and a time to give up,
    a time to keep and a time to throw away,
    a time to tear and a time to mend,
    a time to be silent and a time to speak,
    a time to love and a time to hate,
    a time for war and a time for peace.

What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yetno one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3: 1-11

“He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him. I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.” Daniel 2: 21-23

I’m not sure about you, but when autumn leaves turns to shades of fire, the air is crisp and the wind blows… I feel a transition. In the natural there is an obvious change in season, but spiritually I feel it as well. Especially this year. We are moving into a new season on the earth and in the heavenlies, I feel the transition. The Lord sure surprised many of us with the year 2020, not what most of us would have expected. But he knows what he’s doing, and I believe he used this “shaking” to wake us up to who he is and what he plans to do. Have we stewarded this season well? That is what I keep hearing in prayer. Have we used this time of pause to consider our ways, align with God’s will and promises, repent for wrong thinking, wrongdoing, come back to the Father’s heart… as the leaves fall, I pray everything dead in our lives falls away, goes into the ground for a time of rest and reset, and bloom in due season with even greater fruit than before. I was reminded of the famous verses in Ecclesiastes and the Scripture about the seed falling to the ground and dying:

“Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12: 24-26

Transition can be both unsettling and exciting. Not knowing what lies ahead, in our personal lives, in our countries and the world can be scary, but also exciting if we trust in the Almighty and partner with his plans that will come, he ultimately promises restoration and all things new. The Lord has been reminding me in these times, to remain focused on his Word, trusting his plans and dying to self so he can use me to multiply many seeds. What do we need to let go of in order for God to breath on according to his will? What areas do we hold onto that keeps us stuck in the past? These are questions I have been challenged with as I cross over to a new season.

Much like a tree losing its leaves in the fall, there is a purpose designed for this. The leaves go into a cycle where they do more good for the tree in the ground, to produce nutrients it needs for the winter months. When the tree is leafless, it can’t make food. But it doesn’t get hungry. Instead, it rests and prepares for the new leaves. Leaves are really important for the tree, but sometimes it’s better for the tree to let them go. They can save all the good bits and when there is enough water, they can use them to grow brand new leaves. Leaves “sense” the season changing and respond accordingly. We can learn so much from God’s creation.

I think that’s the biggest challenge in life, waiting on the appropriate time and season of the Lord. We need to learn how to be sensitive to his times and know the season we are in. Both personally and corporately. The best way to know, is lean into the Lord. Have that personal relationship with him, in the Word and in prayer… and he will give you wisdom, understanding and instruction to move forward in due season.

This painting is obvious. Beautiful fall leaves capturing the warmth of the season on display. Sometimes things should be just that simple. When I prayed about the October painting, I kept seeing the fall leaves and a Bible opened. And I heard the Lord say, “A time and a season, during transitions in seasons, we have to be have to be grounded in the Word and in prayer to hear instructions.” We may feel impatient at times and move in our own strength, but we must wait for it, keep praying and not move ahead of God’s timing. He purposes times for a reason.

“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

A Garden of Prayer

A Garden of Prayer

Painted for my September 2020 Collectors Club print

“May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” Psalm 141:2

“Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:2

“And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Revelation 8: 3-4

Who doesn’t love receiving a bouquet of flowers? I know I do! Flowers are one of the most simple and beautiful gestures a person can give or enjoy from the garden. The very beauty and fragrance of flowers is a gift from God. They are reminders of Eden, walking with God in the cool of the day, the place we were created to be, in close communion with Him. The Bible refers to our prayers like an aroma pleasing to God. Just as Jesus offered up himself as a fragrant sacrifice for us, making the way for New Testament believers, our prayers are a scent pleasing to God that reach him directly through Christ.

For the past couple months, prayer has been on my heart. I felt a deep conviction from the Lord that I need to take prayer way more seriously. I felt a stirring inside that I need to set aside time, as a sacrifice in my day, to intentionally pray. Jesus would rise up before dawn to spend time in prayer, to stay connected to the Father. “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed in to a solitary place, and there prayed.” Mark 1:35.

As I was listening to the Lord one morning, I heard him say “you will need to pray next level prayers in the days ahead. It will be needed for daily instruction in the times we are walking into.” I saw a picture of being drawn into deeper areas of the Garden; a place of sitting with the Lord to hear his heart, lifting up praise and thanksgiving for who he is, for our salvation through his sacrifice, praying the Word as a weapon of truth and coming into alignment with God’s will and plans. Let’s face it, we are in a battle between good and evil. As ambassadors of the Kingdom of Heaven, we have been given authority to pray in the name of Jesus, to reign over the demonic forces coming against us. It is time to preserver in prayer like never before. A call to deeper intersession, repentance, praise and thanksgiving, forgiveness, seeking wisdom and utter dependence on Him.

This painting is a reminder to take time to pray from the secret place, the garden of your heart to the Lord. When we spend time with him in prayer, the “golden bowls” in heaven are filled and please the Lord. He hears our prayers. The prayers of the righteous are powerful and fragrant, like a bouquet offered up to the King. Prayers are more important now than ever before; we need them personally to stay grounded, to intercede for our cities and nations, for our loved ones, and all those who need a touch from God. Cultivate a garden of prayer.

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” Matthew 25: 1-13

“The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” Jeremiah 1: 11-12

For the past couple of years, the parable of the ten virgins has been on my heart with a sense of urgency. I was in prayer for this month’s painting and the picture of the oil jar and lamp kept coming to mind. I have painted a few different version of this in the past, (click here to see "Get Ready" & "The Oil & The Light") but I felt the urge to paint it again for the Collectors Club. This time, I saw an almond branch as well. The oil jar and lamp signify to be ready and shine, while the almond branch is a symbol of awakening.

The Oil and Lamp - There is a lot I could write about concerning this parable, but I will share a few of the key parts the Lord keeps speaking to me about. I asked the Lord, what is the extra oil represent? How do we make sure we carry extra oil so we are ready with a lite lamp… I heard him say to me, “it’s walking with me daily. It’s knowing me and my ways. It’s the daily communing through the Holy Spirit, being truly born again and abiding on the vine.” We see in the verses above, when the bridegroom came, the foolish virgins asked if they could enter, he says “I don’t know you.” This is the divide of those who truly know the Lord and those who are false believers and try to get oil from others without paying the price for it ahead. The foolish virgins were told to go buy their own oil… walking with the Lord costs something. There is a price to pay for carrying extra oil daily to be prepared.

Everyone is responsible for their own oil according to this scripture. It’s a personal preparation and choice to be ready at any moment to meet Jesus. What is the cost? Certain things will differ for everyone according to their own life and calling, but there are a few things in the Bible we all have in common: picking up our cross daily and following Jesus, dying to our fleshly nature and selfish ambitions, fully surrendering our ways to the Lord. It may come with persecution, with the world hating you for the sake of Christ, it may cost you possessions, saying no to empty pursuits, friends, jobs, family, popularity, the latest trend, fitting in the crowd, etc. But at the end of the day, would getting in the door be worth all these temporary things? Absolutely!

The Almond Branch - Nature is a parable of God’s working. The almond tree is one of the first that awakens and blooms in the spring from its winter sleep. In the Bible it is a symbol of awakening and watching. God showed Jeremiah a vision of an almond branch as a sign that he is watching to fulfill his word to the prophet. God is always watching. The branch in the painting reminds me to awaken and be alert. We can’t be lulled to sleep by the ways of the world and lose our focus on what God is doing. He needs us to be his hands and feet on the earth to carry out his plans. We need to be like the budding almond branch, the first to blossom, so others can see the beauty and need for a life in Christ.

I pray this painting is a small reminder to be alert and make sure your oil jar is being filled daily. Share the light of Christ with others so they can have their own lamp filled as well. Every day the hour draws closer to the cry ringing out, “Here is the bridegroom! Come out and meet him!” We need to be like the wise virgins, ready with our extra oil.

Peace I Give You | New Painting & Message

“When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.” Genesis 8: 11

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6-7

In the times we are living in, there is a desperate need for peace. As I prayed into this month’s painting, the word I kept hearing was peace. I saw this painting in my mind as I prayed and started digging into Scripture about the elements of the composition. The only true peace can be found in Jesus, he is the Prince of Peace. Worldly peace isn’t sufficient, it won’t last. No one except the Lord can bring everlasting peace. For those abiding in him, they will have peace that surpasses understanding; an unshakable peace that keeps us grounded in times of trouble and uncertainty. God’s peace will keep our minds and heart focused on the eternal, on hope and on God’s plans rather than the world of anxiety and fear. God’s peace guards us from allowing the enemy into our emotional and mental state. His peace gives us rest.

The image I most often picture when I think of God’s peace is a white feather. The dove is mentioned in scripture in the story of Noah, bringing an olive branch back to Noah as a sign of dry land and of new life bursting forth. This branch signified a new season and the flood waters subsiding. The dove and the olive branch is a symbol for peace, God’s grace, and mercy. It feels as if we are living in the days of Noah; days of turmoil, wickedness, lawlessness, division, strife and such unrest. (read Matthew 24) This painting is a good reminder to stay focused on God’s peace and his promise of restoration despite all we are seeing around us.

We also see the dove mentioned in Jesus’ baptism. As he comes out of the waters, the heavens open and the Spirit descends on him in the form of a dove and remains. In this case, the dove is a symbol of God’s Spirit, which rests on Jesus, giving him the power and authority to endure his ministry mission on earth. I found it interesting that in both of these stories the dove is mentioned, there is water present.

Water is a symbol of spiritual cleansing and purification, new life through baptism. God cleansed the earth in Noah’s time of the sin that had completely taken over, giving a new start to humanity. I am praying for God’s cleansing power to flood the earth once again through us, his sons and daughters, who carry the power of the Holy Spirit. John 7:38 says, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” We are agents of living waters to flow out of our lives and reach the world around us. We are cleansed of our old sinful nature and given a new life of salvation in Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, God gives us the power and authority to carry out his mission on this earth. Let’s be the healing waters this world needs. Flood the earth with his love. Giving others the hope and peace that the world can’t offer, eternal life in Christ.

“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24: 13-14

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:22-25

"But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil." Hebrews 5: 14

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1: 2-4

When praying through June’s painting, all I could see was fruit on a table, colourful and delicious looking. I really enjoy painting fruit, so of course this was an awesome composition to see… I asked the Lord to speak to me about what this fruit means. The first words I heard were, “Mature Fruit.” He began speaking to me about spiritual maturity, spiritual fruit and how we must move into maturity as the body of Christ and individuals. During trials and testing, we are often being pruned and challenged to repent of sinful ways so we become more mature in our walk and faith. Our character is matured as we see in the perspective of the Spirit rather than in the flesh.

The first verse most of us will think about with fruit is in Galatians, referring to spiritual fruit.

What does it mean to bear fruit? Essentially, it is becoming like Jesus. Spiritual fruit will show itself in our lives as a change in our character and outlook. As we spend time with Jesus and get to know Him better, His thoughts will become our thoughts. His purpose will become our purpose. We will become more like Him.

Spiritual fruit is what others see in your life. Do you exude any of the fruits of the Spirit outlined in Galatians? Something to think about. I began to read about how fruit matures, here is what I found out:

Maturing and ripening process:

Fruits undergo numerous changes during ripening. The major changes include fruit softening, sweetening, decreased bitterness, and colour change. These changes begin in an inner part of the fruit, working its way towards outer most tissue of the fruit. The maturing process of fruits refers to the last stage of the biological function, when they grow to the maximum size. The best quality of fruit when harvest is done at the perfect maturity stage. Picked and ready to eat!

I always find it amazing how God designed the world around us and how we can learn spiritual truths from His creation. The parallels that were highlighted to me:

Fruit softening, much like our hearts
Becoming sweeter and less bitter, resulting as we repent of our sinful ways and fleshly desires
Colour changing, we become richer in tone as we mature, becoming beautiful shades of God’s masterpiece. Our character can be like colour… changing as we mature.
Change occurs inside the fruit towards the outside, as does in a person. We change and develop from what is in our heart and minds. When focused on Christ and in the Word, we develop from the inside out.

I hope this simple painting of fruit will be a reminder of becoming more like Jesus. My desire is to know him more and continually develop into spiritual maturity day by day.

P.S. I also have to mention, I painted this outside on a porch in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. My parents have a place in the Okanagan where we go to, to get away and relax. It is the most gorgeous country-side of wineries, hills and lakes. Orchards bloom everywhere in this region. The perfect place to paint and reflect on producing spiritual fruit, where fruit grows in abundance. My prayer is we all grow into maturity in Christ, so we can serve others with His goodness. It is a process that develops our entire life, as we press on towards the day we see Jesus face to face.

"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained." Philippians 3: 14-16

"Remember" | NEW Painting | May Collectors Club 2020

May is an extra special month for me, it’s my birthday month! When I began praying through the painting for this May, I automatically saw lily of the valley. “Too obvious,” I thought, lily of the valley is the birthday flower for May; then I saw the flowers in a pitcher on a table with communion beside it. That was the image so strongly impressed on my heart, I had to paint it. I asked God for the meaning behind this still life and here’s what I heard…

We must remember the simplicity of the gospel, what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the cross. The body and blood shed for our sins and the new covenant we walk in. We ought to partake in this remembrance daily, not just on Sundays or occasions. This can be done in our homes with our families on a daily basis or as we feel lead. It brings us back to the foundation of our faith and realigns our hearts. It is life transforming. We are the fragrance of Christ, pouring out our love for Him so others can see Christ in us. We cannot lose our voice in this world, our life should be an aroma glorifying the Lord wherever we go. Remember these things.

The lily of the valley:

Lily of the valley is the May flower meaning, “return to happiness.” In the Bible, lily of the valley is mentioned 15 times, most often in Song of Songs. Since the flower blooms so early in springtime, in Christianity it represents the Second Coming of Christ. In Song of Songs the flower refers to us, the bride of Christ. We often think it’s only an image of Jesus, but in the context of this Scripture, it is describing us – the beloved. We are the fragrance of Christ in this world.

Lily of the valley represents simplicity, purity, humility and an effortless glory of the saints. The dainty white flower hangs like a bell, sending forth it’s sweet sound. With its head bowed, it reminds us of our posture towards our King, “Holy Holy is the Lord Almighty!” and yet he humbled himself in the lowest position as a suffering servant for our salvation and a life of abundance.

In ancient times, lily of the valley was often used as a medical remedy for a lost voice. Say what?! When I read that, I knew the Lord was saying, “we cannot lose our voice.” God wants to heal those who have lost their voice for him. We are living in a time where our voice is being threatened, being silenced and the freedom to practice our faith is being tested. We are seeing the Christian faith being persecuted in almost every area of society. We have to rise up with a voice of freedom and salvation. It has been watered-down in the name of political correctness. If we aren’t careful, it will be taken away and we will experience great persecution. We must spread the ‘fragrance of the knowledge of him’ everywhere we go.

The Bread and Wine:

The two elements of communion, the body and blood shed for you. The physical action of eating and drinking is designed to remind us that we spiritually “ingest” and depend upon Jesus and the saving benefits of his life, death, and resurrection. “Do this in remembrance of me.”

The Butterfly:

The butterfly is a symbol of transformation and resurrection power. This beautiful little creature reminds us of a life transformed through Christ, here and now. In him, all things are made new.

I pray the month of May’s print is a reminder of the hope we have in Christ and the fragrance we carry to others. We cannot lose our voice declaring the good news!

“How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who announces peace
And brings good news of happiness,
Who announces salvation,
And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices. They call out together for joy, for they will see with their own eyes the return of the Lord to Zion.” Isaiah 52:7-8

I had this idea months ago... create a fun way to collect meaningful artwork with a message for those who appreciate my work... out of that idea, the Collectors Club was born! Here is a peak at my first months painting. Thank you to all who signed up for the first month, I truly appreciate each one of you for beginning this journey with me.

I woke up one morning with the words, “all nature sings” going through my mind. Over and over I could hear it, like a song being sung, but it was coming from leaves swaying in the wind, as if I could see the sound. I saw art painted of leaves, with light, colour and movement of the brush strokes, all suggesting the sounds of praising and worshiping the Lord. I heard this beautiful new sound and song, like a symphony of leaves singing to Jesus. What if we could see nature singing? I began to imagine what that would look like. We can hear it if we take the time to quiet ourselves and listen. What would it look like?

This painting is a response to that morning. God has been speaking to me a lot right now to pay attention to nature and what we can learn about His Kingdom from the creation around us. It glorifies and testifies of Him. "The heavens declare the glory of God", says Psalm 19. We can join in this praise and song of thanksgiving like David did in the psalms, just by seeing the beautiful things he has made around us.

I actually heard the Holy Spirit tell me that nature “gets it” more than we do at times. I felt convicted of how often I forget to worship and praise him no matter what season or circumstances I am in. The leaves do, so I should too.

Then I heard the Lord speak to me about how nature responds to him and he showed me in this vision upon waking, what that looks like. Nature follows God’s times and season; nature has a cycle of growth, lying dormant, sprouting, blossoming and dying according to its kind. I began to see what God was showing me, how we too must learn to tune into the season we are in, individually, corporately, the “time and season” on the earth we are living in and hear what he is saying to us, how to react and move accordingly, all the while remembering to take the time to praise Him.

This all happened at the end of February/ early March… I painted “Nature Sings” in response to what I was hearing and seeing. Little did I know when I painted this (I planned it to be my first Collectors Club print!) that we would enter into such a time of unknown, of so many questions about what is happening in the world, about this virus, about our economy, future of schools and businesses, etc. I believe God was preparing me for this time and praise Him in the midst of it. Take the time to re-focus what matters most; family, the beauty of nature, slowing down from busyness and breathe in His presence and listen. We are entering spring time – God’s natural time of budding and blossoming… as you see the green sprout around you, take time to listen to the leaves singing. Praise and worship the Lord no matter what is going on around you. It’s the perfect time to reflect and re-align with God’s promises and purposes for his sons and daughters to arise with a new sound! All of creation is waiting for us.

"Stay in the Snow"

I painted this back in December of 2019. I never did release the finished painting... I'm not actually sure why I didn't back then, I just never felt promoted to. Sometimes I paint things based on very personal dreams and words, so I keep them to myself, but for the last two weeks or so... it has been snowing where I live everyday! Yup, snow in April here in Alberta! And each day I hear God saying to me, you never did share about that painting, now is the time. So today I made a point to sit down and write about it.

This phrase started for me back on Sept. 9, 2018. I had a dream that night where myself and another person were being snowed on, just the two of us, while being captured by evil people. I was slightly scared in the dream, but because of the snow, I felt safe. It felt like a protective covering around us in the dream. I heard God's voice speak to me, "stay in the snow." There was way more going on in the dream, but for the purpose of this painting and message I will focus on the snow and what I believe is an instruction and message.

I knew the dream had a message for me personally about prophetic purity and staying pure of heart, but I also see it as a message for the purity of the Church, the bride of Christ. Is God trying to purify His bride? I think so! At the time, my dream was personal to me and held instructions for my heart, but now seeing what is happening in the world, I truly believe God is doing a way bigger thing. It always starts with us individually... purifying our own heart and life, but I also believe God is giving his Church time to get prepared! It says in the Bible, Jesus is coming back for a pure bride.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless." (Ephesians 5: 25-27)

"Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” (Revelation 19: 7-9)

"Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." (Psalm 51:7)

I will break down the painting and what each piece means from my perspective, but what I love about art is it will speak differently to each of us. Yes, there may be a message from my perspective, but never let it limit what God may be showing you individually.

The Dark Sky:

In my dream, the feeling was dark. We were captured by evil people with the intention to steal our voice. We live in a dark world. There are dark spiritual forces at work around us. I believe there are dark days ahead. But be of good cheer! Jesus already won the war on the Cross and uses His Church to be a light to shine bright! I do believe we are in a season where there will be a divide even in the Church, of those who are purified and made ready and those who aren't. (The parable of the Ten Virgins - Matthew 25)

We must get ready and get real with ourselves while there is time!

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." (Matthew 5:8)

"Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky" (Philippians 2: 14-15)

The White Rose:

White has ever been a symbol of innocence, of a world unspoiled and untarnished. The meaning of a white roses is innocence and spiritual love. The white rose glorifies a love that is unaware of the temptations of the flesh and resides only in the soul. As opposed to the red rose that speaks of passionate promises, the meaning of a white rose is in its simplicity and pristine purity. The white rose also represents Jesus Christ's resurrection; the resurrection power that resides in the life of a believer and washes away our sins, making us clean.

The Snow:

Snow can represent: pure/purity (white), robe of righteousness (snow on the earth is like a robe of righteousness on an earthen vessel), Glory, Refreshing and God's Word. In the dream I felt protection surrounding me by being snowed on. And when I heard, "stay in the snow." I believe the Lord was showing me a message and instruction... if we STAY in purity, have pure motives of the heart and move in righteousness, we will be safe. Even if we are "captured" we must stay in purity.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." (Isaiah 1:18-19)

The Glass Dome:

When praying through this painting, I kept seeing the white rose being snowed on; the way I saw the protection, was in a glass dome. The glass also speaks to me personally about the prophetic gifting. Glass speaks of seeing, seeing through a spiritual lens, a new perspective. Clear glass is clarity. I also saw it as a protective shield around the rose.

Biblically, glass speaks of the heart, transparent and pure.

I also heard the Lord say we are in a "window of time" to get prepared. In the days we are seeing right now, with such uncertainty, we must walk in purity and conform to the image of Christ, not of this world.

The Scroll with a Blue Ribbon:

The plans and purposes of God for each one of us are predestined. I truly believe the closer we walk with him, the more we are purified and made clean, the more we hear from him and his instruction are made clear. The scroll is a symbol of those plans, the revelation and instructions he gives to us. His written Word and His instructions that come through the Holy Spirit's voice moment by moment as we live each day.

The White Feather:

I painted many many white feathers in the Bible Art Collection during the last two years. I used them to represent the Holy Spirit, his Presence and His peace.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4: 6-7)

No matter what trials we face in this world, God promises to give us peace and to guard our hearts and minds in Christ. Instead of allowing worry and fear to steal our peace, we present our requests to God. When we submit our transition and turmoil to God, and invite him into our circumstance, we allow God’s peace to transcend our situation.

This was a very personal painting that speaks to my heart and is a reminder to me to continually renew my mind, my heart and ask God to create in me a clean heart - a pure heart, for those are the ones that will ascend the mountain of the Lord... and I want to be one of those people! We all have time now to get ready. What are the areas of your life that need purifying? What areas of your heart need to be cleansed? Jesus Christ forgives all who call upon his name and believe. To be prepared and made ready, a pure bride for His second coming.

"Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god." (Psalm 24:3-4)

I pray you are all blessed, encouraged and challenged by this painting.

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)

Lord, purify our hearts.
